My server idea is called flipmap and it gives people a chance to meet up with other flipper zero users by letting them show/post their general location (eg. Town, county). and other flipper zero users can see this and if they are nearby, then the 2 or more can arrange a meetup. Should i do it? And how do YOU want it to look and be like?

You say "like POTA", so would it just be all through a computer/phone, or would it have an element of communicating through the Flipper wirelessly? It can do Sub-GHz communication, especially with an external CC1101 board with a better antenna, so you could totally try to find each other using a couple Yagi antennas, or something like that, or maybe using the built-in Sub-GHz Chat feature?
IMO if you wanted to do something truly POTA style, you'd have a website where you can say "I'm monitoring 433.9625 in San Fransico" or w/e and then other Flipmap users would see that and be able to "activate" you by trying to contact you.
I do love the mental image of someone waving around a large VHF Yagi with a tiny Flipper mounted on the end
That. But just like. A server to comunicate with people near you like meet up or use your flippers to talk through subghz from a dist or even flipperhttp to talk via the internet from across the planet
Just a server for flipper users to use to get together irl
Like a reaction of your general state or origin and then a system to register your location and find others near you so you can meet up in person to talk about stuff and mess around .
Somthing i have always wanted to do is meet with other flipper users in person
Flipmap | Map of flipper zero owners / users
Dope idea!
flipperhttp to talk via the internet from across the planet
FlipSocial can do this currently
Just a server for flipper users
And the FlipSocial server has about 1900 registrations
It could be expanded to include GPS data, though I'm not sure many would want their positions advertised
And with what I've seen so far with FlipSocial, I dont think a tracking feature is worth the risk. I mean I guess users could opt out.. I just think you should get a feel for the Flipper space/community first
i think GPS would be interesting
but 100% it has to be aprox location if possible
full long/lat would be extremely unsafe imo lol
something like when you search an IP you dont get the exact area but maybe the town or somewhere nearby
but yeah even then its extremely unsafe in my opinion
One option I can think of is adding an option to FlipSocial to fetch GPS data, then allow you to select a reduced accuracy, then the pin that is shared is "randomly" moved to where you're in that radius, but not at the middle. The default could be maybe 20+ miles to be safe, but allow you to be more precise if you want.
That's a great idea actually - we could just do town/common places. There's probably some APIs available for that already too
another cool thing would be
i had this idea awhile ago
a site for finding lost flippers
if youve ever used or looked into a keyport basically the same premise as that
if ya need a rundown on how it works @ me but its just a simple way for people who find the keyport to contact and setup a meeting to return the keyport
could be added in the same app possibly unsure?
That would be dope for sure 🔥 in that case, we would indeed need a separate app for all of this, "FlipMap"
ah alrighty!
maybe later on we can chat about the idea!
dont wanna fill this chat with it lol
Sure thing! though it could be a FlipMap feature for sure since it's location related still
This makes me imagine the Snapchat map for flipper users
Maybe it could be tied to flipper name
Agreed 🔥 that'd be fire
Im back. So my idea is to give a general location. Like town or county, not exact. Somthing exact is dangerous, moderation would be key, but you would not be able to just post your location. You would have to fill out an application or contact a mod. I do not know how i would do this but this is why i made this thread.
This server idea is to help people meet up with others to discuss and chat about flipper 0 related stuff or screw with it instead of just doing it online
Like maybe a one time thing for entering location data. search for people near you. And contact them and arrange somthing.
This has no intent to be dangerous.
But i have always wanted to meet up with other users in person
There's actually already an app for this, the FindMy Flipper app emulates an Apple, Tile, Samsung, or Google tracker!
I love the idea of this! I'm not sure there's really a good way to integrate the Flipper itself (unless you do the above FlipSocial stuff, or maybe somehow make an app that points towards nearby Flippers or something). IMO if it's going to be a website or something on a phone/computer, there's already apps like Discord or FlipSocial which could be used for this purpose. Of course, I'm not going to yuck your yum, so if you want to build a site/app/etc for it, that'd be super cool and I'd love to help.
Yep already have that setup
Issue official and some other firmwares the app doesn't boot off launch
Plus AirTag doesn’t show any info on how to return it
But let’s move to #tech about it!
Im not talking about tile, samsung, apple, or any tracker like that.
STAY ON TOPIC PLEASE
I mentioned that because that app does allow you to find your lost Flipper and would work far better than a Flipper-only solution, since tracker apps only work as well as the number of devices on the network. You'd have to get tens or hundreds of thousands of Flippers around the world, all with internet connections and GPS, to be able to locate a lost Flipper, unless you're already close enough to it to just use your phone with the Flipper app.
But back on topic, I do think this could be a really cool way to meet new people
Maybe, the location of the user can be determinate by the IP who is connected and with GeoIP you can see the town where is connected?
Good idea
IDK if its possible an implementation of a service of GeoIp with a Database, but if you program, anything is possible...
This project reminds me to the annual map that Steam published every year with all the players. What about a browser for being more comfy to find your city?
Shouldn't be that hard, there are public services that let you look up an IP and get the geolocation of it.
With an automatic script is must be possible
I'm not a programmer but in what language are the Flipper Apps written?
C(++), the firmware exists on Github and apps are usually published either on Github or Gitlab
Thanks! I'll learn C/ C++ and in a year I'll be back!
@ripe comet Have we got an official GitHub repo or maybe we should know how we want the app look like, scripts, FlipperHTTP application?
I know c++, c, javascript, python, basic and html(maybe a few more)
This will be useful
BASIC? Wow, haven't heard that name in a while
Lol
The @ripe comet Programming Language
For sure. I learned them on some free time as i knew it would be helpfull
Have you ever programmed a FLIPPER APP?
With us or somebody else?
Someone else
OK
And u lol
We need to make a registration system and do full background checks
Registration system sure, but why does it need background checks? I think I'm misunderstanding something.
We need to do checks, to knock out criminal or malicious intent from the picture
I see. Other platforms for helping people meet up don't typically need background checks (for example, most social media platforms like Discord, CraigsList, even Tinder doesn't afaik) so I'm not sure if that's something people will be willing to do.
Personally, I love the idea and want to meet other Flipper users IRL, but I'm not willing to go through a full background check just for that. Plus, someone could easily clear the background check, sign up, and then have their Flipper stolen, or someone could make a malicious Flipper app to steal their credentials off the SD card
I'm not sure where you're based out of, but a background check process would need to follow different regulations in different countries, and I know from experience that making something built for a US audience comply with EU regulations (GDPR in this case) can be a pain
I think a flipmap would be hella fun
meeting regional flipper users, sharing files, playing laser tag haha
SPOT ON
Thats my idea!
Check out
i got my flipper catching signals 24/7
and i see from where they coming
i take a walk at night 🙂
Ok? We could impliment that. But its a bit too early for that i think?
There is no official plan made. We are still working on it. I have a in person crew of 3 and you guys and gals for ideas and development support and feedback.
But you can expect somthing good out of this
How are your thoughts on this?
Yes ofc
If yall need some help/support i am here to help
I love supporting projects like this❤️
Same here from me!
Got some work on my git if you need to see some progress n stuff
I need somone to help with laws and regulations
ChatGPT will be your best friend with this
Is there regulations in USA? In Spain I don't know about any law that controls it.
You said that you would be in touch with some dev's? Have you made some progress?
ChatGpt has made an script with C that allows you to show a logo and a menu with the options Map, About, and Settings.
Pastebin
Pastebin.com is the number one paste tool since 2002. Pastebin is a website where you can store text online for a set period of time.
ChatGPT is pretty bad for flipper code
You can use it to “help” if you already know coding and the flippers codebase
But writing straight up apps with chatGPT goes nowhere
Thanks for your advice.
WHO IN THE FLIPPER WOULD USE CHATGPT FOR CODE
me
this is huge breach of privacy
I would believe you if your profile photo was less immature
how to get arrested by police : use the flipmap
1 year prison for hacking teslas 💀
Depends on how it’s made
If it’s just user consent and geo location then it isn’t that bad since the user gives consent and it doesn’t give an exact location (just generalized location)
Which it would be peoples choice to use the app and put themselves on there
And police don’t just go arrest people on a map like that…
do u know what is triangulation localization
yes used in foxhunting
wouldnt work the way your thinking depending on how its done
GPS, IP, manually setting location
Then just... don't hack Teslas? If you don't act like a skid then there's nothing for you to be arrested for. The Flipper is a tool, tools can be used for good things or bad things, it's up to the person using them to use them properly. A hammer's not illegal until you smash someone in the head with one.
The hammer analogy!! Really needs to be a bot command atp
Flipper zero users are mostly white hat hackers and if not are a discrace
