you'd prbably need a lot of rewriting, animations, how menus are rendered, how buttons work etc

ie, left in landscape becomes up in portrait
doubt just resizing existing animations would fly with the UI team

i would personally enjoy it though, found myself using it in portrait mode quite often
it doesn't escape my notice that the IR remote section is already vertical
it's probably the only screen where it makes sense though, given how the IR window is mounted
originally it wasn't
so i suspect that screen is in portrait mode deal with the hardware change and not force you to see a landscape screen - much more so than it's an actual step towards making it portrait
IIRC rotated display is fully supported now. It was mentioned in a release notes somewhere
