#Clarification on License: Would Adding Modded Ores/Mobs on Biomes Prohibit Distribution on Modpacks?

Version: 1.20.1 (But I guess this can apply for every version)
Variant: Both versions

This is the line I'd like some confirmation in.

  • You are permitted to use Stardust Labs datapacks or mods in their UNMODIFIED form as part of a publicly distributed modpack. If you do so, you MUST give credit to Stardust Labs and include a link to the relevant datapack or mod. The datapack or mod must be used in its whole form (besides any compatibility addons for other datapacks.)

There are so much mods that adds ore/mobs, and for most modpacks, dividing/situating its rates on a per-biome basis is essential for balancing purposes.
While I don't intend on changing the shape of the terrain, I don't know if "adding/customizing" ores/mobs in a biome would be considered a compatibility addon or a modification.

I apologize if this is a silly question-- but I just want to make sure before working on balancing my pack.

if you physically edit the Terralith mod in your modpack, this would not be allowed. most mods that add ores/mobs don't edit worldgen mods. rather, they simply have a config to add them to certain biomes, or do it automatically based on tags

Alright, I see. So, in conclusion (correct me if I'm wrong):

  • (What I can't do) Add an ore/mob directly to a specific Terralith biome through a datapack
  • (What I can do) Make a silentgems (the mod which adds ores) datapack that divides their ores through biome tags

if Silent's Gems already uses tags, then you probably don't have to do anything

#

Terralith already supports biome tags

Silent Gems does use a tag, but it is set to spawn in every biome. I want to adjust spawn rates through biome tags, so I'll probably have to tinker with those.

#

I just want to make sure I implement biome-specific ore generation in a way that still adheres to the license, but I think I got it now 👍

ah, i understand then. if you just mess with tags, then you'll be adhering to the license
