my first post in discord . I feel so unsure about my capabilities , I am over 50 and just got diagnosed with autism this month. Are there any others that share my experience with this . I was completely awful with Math, yet on the other hand do very well in software learning . Leon is so awesome and I want this so much for myself and my family . Thank you in advance .

Similar situation here.

  1. You don't have to be good at math.
  • A lot of roles don't require much math skills, especially early career. And even if you end up working in a math heavy industry, the computer will do the math for you or the company will have a mathematician on staff. πŸ˜†

hi @olive eagle i know everyone with autism is different but i have a friend with autism who when though a traditional 4 year computer science program with me.

math is practice. It can be daunting(especially with the way it's handled and treated within some schools) but if you have a good teacher and/or a good support system (which you do) you'll make it and excel at it. also programming doesn't always equal doing complex math and I don't think this program requires anything beyond an elementary school level of math, I could be wrong though. however you should study math to learn how to problem solve.

finally on being older i meant 3 older people (50 plus) who were in my CS programs doing it for the first time just like all the 19 and 20 somethings in my class. and they were just as good.

everyone has some challenges when learning. Mine is dysgraphia and tiktok brainrot. Listen to leon's and lean on the community we got you and you got this πŸ’ͺ🏿

Congrats on your autism diagnosis. I'm 26 and I got diagnosed this year. My therapist's suggestion was not to worry about it, you're still the same person.

Regarding learning things about my autism, I've mostly had to learn things around feeling overstimulated, reading social cues and trying to make an active choice of being around others as opposed to being in my own inner world.

Something that I struggle with which is related to my autism is getting out of my comfort zone and tolerating frustration (especially when I'm out of my comfort zone). It helps that Leon has a helpful framing for this.
