what does your mod list look like? you might have a mod installed that is supposed to be on both client and server

what you have there is good

and if you have mods that are supposed to be on the server, that's why you're seeing odd behavior when joining vanilla servers

I'd recommend making a separate instance for when you want to play on vanilla servers that only contain client-side mods
