This would be present in 1.20+ using the Quick Play feature (or if an appropriate Quick Play backport mod is installed). This would also apply to servers. This has actually been discussed before, and mineblock already wrote a backport mod for this purpose (https://modrinth.com/mod/quickplay).

I was actually working on a forge port of this mod recently, and when it's released it doesn't need to be updated ever again

The eventual goal is to support all major MC versions that support fabric, and forge 1.8 to 1.19
