Hello e1, has anyone figured out a smart move about retriving/reviving lost characters from members on an Ark unofficial server?
- Server rollback seems to work. Downside, Hard punish for lost progress ingame for other players.
Any other shortcut that might work reclaming lost chars with less punish? until its fixed
So I've been running my own dedicated Ark server for myself and a few friends for about a year now on my home computer. Everything has been fine for the most part, aside from the occasional update that bricks the entire server on startup, but I've always been able to fix it with a rollback. Or two. But as we have progressed through the game, we have finished the island and Scorcher Earth, and are currently on Aberation, which has become increasingly unstable. Aberation has had the most crashes of any previous map. For example, I've had to roll back Aberation several times to even get to the server to boot, but now it can't even run for more than 30 minutes before crashing and rolling back 15 minutes. I set up this server using the troubleshooting YouTube video titled "ARK: Survival Ascended Dedicated Server Setup | Host a FREE private server | Full Guide." If anyone has experience with this type of thing, I would be extremally great full.
im no expert. but the way you host is trough ur pc as i understand it with a port forward method. and aberation is a heavy map to runn alone, and all u players do ur pc load basicly. = crashes.
How can I read the crash reports so I can actually see what's actually crashing the server?
ShooterGame\Saved\Logs
The file you want is usually something like:
- ShooterGame.log or the latest .log file
- Open it with Notepad and scroll all the way down — the last lines usually show the error before the crash.
“Fatal error”
“Out of memory”
“Assertion failed”
“Access violation”

i dont know. but in my eyes, it seems like the hoster ''your pc'' might have unstable network / Ram issue to runn server / + ur own gameplay.
and aberation is the heaviest map as far as i know in ark.

Anyone else having issues with global chat just, blackholing everything you type? Everyone can see what they're sending, but nobody else recieves it in general.
I use lacc on my primary cluster, but I have a secondary cluster without any kind of chat mods, people can connect to it and everything just fine -- but global doesn't work. :[

That looks like a dino mod causing it.
"PrimalCharacter" is the base class of all "character-like" objects.
FPropertyTag::SerializeTaggedProperty()
UStruct::SerializeTaggedProperties()
UObject::Serialize()
AActor::Serialize()
APrimalCharacter::Serialize()
And it's failing when it tries to save the data.
one of these might be ur issue:
- Corrupted save file
- Broken dino / character / structure data
- A mod mismatch or removed mod object still saved in the world
- Map data corruption after repeated crashes/rollbacks
Since the crash is happening in APrimalCharacter::Serialize(), I’d especially suspect:
a broken creature
a player character
tamed dino data
something in the world tied to character data
Things I would try:
- load an older save backup
- temporarily remove or update mods
- test with a fresh Aberration save to see if the map itself runs clean
- move/rename the current save folder and let the server generate a new one - for testing
- if possible, restore only the most recent backup from before the crashes started

ya ive been having trouble with mods for a while now. Like, whenever there's an update to the mod, my server won't boot, so I delete the mod file and force the server to redownload it to get the update to go through, and that usually fixes it.\

Mods are most commonly the issue, but corruption happens quite frequently when the server doesn't shut down cleanly.
yes and its just my opinium. the mods at this point might have made ur world data corrupt
When adding mods, check curseforge the website first, and check out the "last updated' section. If it's been a long time since the last update, there's a higher chance that the mod is broken somehow

Okay -- So, what mods are you running, and...how many of them?
Also, how much ram is available on the machine you're running? And are you playing ARK at the same time on the same machine?
16gb is what I can see servers peak at; and running the game itself can easily go up to 12gb of ram
Hm is it 30min spot on? can it be ur autosave function that is to heavy for ur pc + gameplay what u think thantik of this theory?
Autosave when bogged down can result in hitching pretty hard, but...USUALLY you recover.
I'm thinking it's an out-of-memory situation.

If he was out of disk-space to save, he'd have all sorts of other things on his machine running slow and acting up at that point, and windows would yell at him pretty loudly about being out of space

Start with any mods that add dinos, or alter your character any.

ctrl+C should be it in the console
you can do a cheat doexit in server console
and wait for the console window to close on its own
You can also do this from within-game if you're logged in like you're running any other admin/cheat command.
did he mention HDD or SSD?
This properly saves the game and unloads the map; it used to be nearly instant - but since lost colony it can take a minute or two to shut down.

I think most people are on SSD now. ARK times out if you run it on HDD

Either within game you can do enablecheats serverpassword and then cheat doexit -- or, there's a little ^ arrow on the upper right of the server window, when you click it, itll turn into a V, and give you a little chat box you can type into on the bottom of the window
but first tick console function on in game settings 🙂
Also, pay attention best you can to details when the server crashes. Is it only when a specific friend logs on? Does it happen when someone does something super specific, like paint a structure? etc
For my server, at one point - it was any time someone pulled an item with a pull mod, within range of dedicated storage.

You can also manually force it to save the world using the cheat saveworld command.
Which can help speed up testing.

To shut down the server correctly, yes
It'll save the world directly after, kick everyone, and it'll look like it's stalled for a minute or two sometimes, but it'll eventually write everything out and close out.

ok i got the server to boot but some of the structures to are in a diffrent tribe and i cant force join the tribe

And you're looking at the structure, doing cheat forcejointribe and it's not joining you?
Leave your tribe, log out and log back in, and re-do cheat command - sometimes that solves it. I'll be honest, the tribe join/makefounder/makeadmin commands can be really flaky sometimes
Also I don't know what state your mods may have left some of the structures in.

You can maybe try to do a "GiveToMeAOE" and re-forming a tribe, inviting the others into the new tribe
There's a couple of ways you can accomplish the same thing here, but you gotta think about it beforehand

i have question my server works great without mods like armor dura and damage is capped lvls work rates evrything but when i add a mod it just crashes the server instantly when i booth it up (its linux tough so prob the probleam that it is on linux since linux is ass)

try that .. I found it very reliable for configuring servers. If you use Nitrado you can upload directly. you can also use FTP or like I do just generate the config files and manually put them on your server

yeah everyone else can join my self included (Same PC as server) but his refuses to see the list at the obelisk, I have access to his PC to do whatever on it if the fix isnt something i need to do on the server

Back in ASE, there was a mod that allowed your dinos to get exp without needing to be part of the kill. This was great in SP when added with the dino storage mod. Does any such mod exist in ASA? So I don't need to manually level all my dinos by going out and killing random wild dinos.
Dino Depot supports this. you can enable dinos earning XP while they're balled up.
Pelayoris also has this
pretty sure loopback is just the host PC being able to see it through lan.
the problem is ASE puts lan in its own category so when transferring it doesn't appear 
it was fixed in ASA with the removal of the lan tab

I'm at a complete loss. If I set my server difficulty to 5.0 it makes all cave drops drop near-cap tiems (using official stat clamps). But any lower, and I get those ugly dino levels, like 4, 76, etc. How do I remedy this? I want official item stat clamps, but its just not working out with drop quality. The overrides made skydrops worthless and deep sea crates the only viable loot option. I have no idea why
There are always 30 tiers of dinos, difficulty 5 puts them at 5 levels between each step (5, 10, 15, etc.) which is why that works. To keep these levels but modify loot on a simple/lazy scale you can put this in your game.ini SupplyCrateLootQualityMultiplier=1.0 with any amount less than 1 like 0.5 being half the quality multiplier. I have never messed with stat clamps so I can't speak to that, but you could cut the global quality in half using that config and see if it works well enough for you.
ASA Nitrado server - harvesting a plant will yield one or two items. Gathering narcoberries by hand is taking forever (maybe one per plant). Harvesting a rock is yielding 10 stones, 2 flint. I have the "Server optimization of Harvest Amount Multiplier" set to false. Is there another setting I need to change? "Clampharvest" is not an option in Nitrado.
what is your harvest amount multiplier set to?

It makes little economical sense to make this for a provider. Since memory / sdd / cpu core needed for a map is pretty much the same for 1-10 players. Maybe processor needs to be a bit faster between 10 and 25 but not much

I had the same. Dont put admin password in your startup command but do it through the .ini file 🙂 keep the startup line as short as possible 🙂

(PS5) I just ordered a 20 slot server from Nitrado for Ark ASA. I basically only increased the rates in the settings and switched the map to Astraeos and restarted it but for the life of me it does not show up in the server list. I've tried stopping and starting the server again, the log says it's advertising it's open and I've removed the server password.
I've tried to direct connect and the ArkUseList 0 in console as suggested by Nitrado but they say everything is good on their end. I'm not sure if there is a larger issue RN or just some dumb setting I messed up. Not sure if anyone has any ideas.

Can someone help me I’m trying to mod my survival evolved using steam CMD trying to install specifically two mods castles and keeps and structures S plus however well I’ve been able to get them to be visible in the game. I’ve been unable to access them in grams will not unlock even in creative mode. I cannot craft these items. Does anyone have any link to a Guide or I could just tell me exactly what I might be doing or what I might need to be doing I would really appreciate this help been struggling all day with this.

if its just you, then yes, no port forwarding needed
forgot to add that I've followed a video from "Skarvig" on how to setup a cluster. Followed everything he did, but the other map doesn't show up though.

So i've followed it, but the only server that isn't showing is TheIsland, which is using port 7777 but SE is showing up on my server list which is using 7779
change island to port 7779, you can run them off the same port
ok so yeah they are now both using the same port 7777 but it still doesn't show up.

I thought it was a port issue so I put both servers on 7779, but Island still didnt show up. Aside from that, I can join the server. The island server shows up inside the obelisk, but not on the server list, why is that though. I will try to join the Island to see if it works.

can be two things here, its gonna be either your launch arguments at the bottom of server configuration causing the problem, or something is wrong in the GUS.ini tab at the very bottom when it comes to session settings
Ok I think I found the problem, I changed the install directory of the island server to a custom one and didnt change the one for SE
since I want a cleaner directory for my game servers

just really quickly can try unchecking and rechecking the "manually define launch arguments" assuming they are correct

at the bottom of gus.ini, you want your session settings which prompt connectivity to look like this

those are the only two things that affect connectivity, your session settings or the launch arguments

So basically you would do f.e. 7777 (which means automatically 7778 as well) for map one, then for the second instance 7779 (which means also 7780) so the third would then be 7781

The first one works perfectly, but when I try to start the second one (with different ports),
It used to work fine before, but now it doesn’t.
I’m using:
Server 1 → 7777 / 7778 / 27015
Server 2 → 7779 / 7780 / 27016
Could this be related to patch 361.8? 🤔
Or is it more likely a configuration/network issue (ports, IP, cluster, etc)?

Hello, I got a problem where the game leaves/stops working when trying to loading into my single player world, also my mods aren't showing up as installed. I'd like to know how I am suppsed to fix it ?
Do we already know what the following lines from the log mean:
- Invalid readGuid for transform data
- Actor Primal PersistentWorldData location transform was NOT serialized during save.
From what I get this means some data from the save file might not be understood. In my case it could be because i just removed a mod (cryo sickness protection mod) which I do not need anymore after i moved the server from PvP to PvE settings.
Now I am not sure, and I will check in the server tonight when I'm free, but in my case it might not mean anything really bad. Could just be a setting that is still in the savefile referencing the mod that now long longer exists so the info for it is "skipped"
Am i correct in my idea? Anybody else got some theories or answers ?

I have a separate drive just for games and it is SSD.
- I uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times.
- Tried every "fix" I could find via Google and other folks kind suggestions.
- After more than a few tries I uninstalled everything.
- Scanned the empty drive for any bad sectors (found none).
- Reformatted the drive and rescanned for bad sectors (found none).
- Did a fresh install of Steam and Ark, no mods could log in fine.
- First time jumped back in installing all the mods and wham, back to clicking join, long wait and poof back to the screen to pick a server or look at mods lists etc.
- Uninstalled the mods and then cleared out all files the uninstall leaves behind and could again log in to a server with NO mods.
- Found a server using just one mod (holiday one) and wham, same issue I had as when I put them all back in.
There is no "crash" per say, it doesn't give me any info, just aborts the log in and sends me back to start overIf I try to do single player with mods it hangs at the loading screen and does nothing (longest wait time was overnight on a test run that was over 9 hours) and I have to Force stop it.

We have the Astraeos map thru a cluster and the only players that are having issues joining the map are the ps5 players. We have players on PC and Xbox x and no issues but our players on the ps5 are having issues trying to join. It just immediately dashboards them out. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing just the ps5 players issues and no one else?

What is the easiest way to get a server for me and a friend to play on?
so I had a save that worked perfectly fine yesterday, when i joined today it made me agree to terms of service i did that and saw that all my mods where gone, so i reinstalled them but now whenever i try to join it pauses for a few seconds then instantly closes with no crash logs or anything, any help would be extremely welcome. (ark ascended) or if you know where i could get help that would be apreciated.
I’m looking to create an unofficial Small Tribes Hardcore Server. My question is - how would I go about doing so, what company (nitrado?) to use? Is there a specific setting I need need for the INI? Is there a way to prevent client overrides of graphics - like grass, fog, clouds, shadows etc.?
As for the GPU; not needed. The processor has 10 cores (ark is single core heavy as i understood it) 128GB og ram will help for maps since on average i would say 12 GB for smaller maps and 24GB for bigger ones. I think 2.2GHz with a 3GHz turbo will maybe be enough but personally i aim for higher clock speed. So my processors are around the 3GHz base frequency.

Guys, quick question a friend got a self hosted server using this app to manage the server Grahamvs/ASA-Server-Manager, after everything running fine we wanted to do a dino wipe cuz of a setting issue but we just couldn't get the Admin console/comands to work, we tried to set an admin password we tried the AllowedCheaters.txt but the server takes the auth and just ignores it, we tried to see if the cheats worked anyways but they just didn't any idea of solutions?

If it has a star, you are in admin mode. If it does not, you arent actually in admin mode.
U just edit ini, no need to use in-game commands, but the ini editing spawns is always not super reliable

Anyone here deal with Astraeos corrupting the whole time ? if I leave it running for a bit and it makes a few saves and it gets restarted the map corrupts, I managed to get some logs for where it breaks and it really seems like its only astraeos

For me it booted without those and I was flying around a bit and logged out then a few hours later I restarted it and it gave those but then never boots up
So far my theory holds. Since I have no issues or missing stuff at all.. And it also would make sense that when I added that cryopod mod it would add some information to my save... (because it now has to know that when I toss a cryopod that I would not get cryosickness) but now that the mod is gone that reference is no longer pointing to something that is there (c.q. the mod itself )
So the weird thing is for this map I added mods but left all the configs default

Nope 1st run had all of those mods and it ran fine the 1st time
so for me this didn't start til i removed a mod, and the mods I use are really not very game changing.. since i like vanilla play ..
so I can imagine if you use more "complex mods" that they can cause savegame issues. Now I know to little about how the savegame data is compiled to really give you info on what this would mean or how this can break your game. But I agree with Dolly when they say that trouble shooting for a game with mods is more difficult. Now you have to also consider what the mod does
I mean I can remove most of them but the 2 that I really dont want to budge on would be Dino Depot and Vanilla with Sprikles

Hey folks, my unofficial/private server has been extremely laggy ever since it was updated to Version 85.44. It’s hogging an insane amount of network traffic—up to tens or even hundreds of Mbps per second. Has anyone else had this issue? Any fixes or solutions?

Mods upate on server boot if there are updates available, try clean your mods folder on your system to let them install fresh

I’ve checked and found that the network traffic spikes abnormally every time a player joins the server. It did use to surge a bit when players joined before, but this time it’s literally 10 times higher.
It is a weird situation.. as from what I know it shouldn't be more than a few Mb/s max when someone joins) but if the server has "ALOT" of big builds that need to be rendered.. I can imagine it is more ... maybe also depends on the map
You’re absolutely right. Before updating to Version 85.44, my server’s peak traffic was only a few Mbps, never exceeding 10 Mbps at most. But after the update, it’s shot up to 213 Mbps at peak. I have no idea what’s causing this, so I’m reaching out to the pros here—any ideas on how to fix this?

I am one of the admins. Items being deleted every update is getting pretty annoying. We were told by a dev that it was getting looked into and never got an update from them. Been on going for almost 3 months now

I have hosted to over 30,000 individual players. I own one of the most popular PVE clusters in the game. I have 2 mods on my cluster, and neither of them break ever. So the fact that it's happening to some and not others is suspicious tbh.

I don't need help thinking. I need Wildcard to address and fix this problem. They changed the way data is saved. Objects are failing to save at random. You would understand that it's happening to more than just us too, except anytime someone brings it up, they're chastized for it. The reason it is appropriate for regular server members to comment on this issue is because it is their time that is being wasted. They spend hundreds, and often times, thousands of hours playing this game, just to lose it all to a bug the developers refuse to address.

I don't expect you to understand what it's like to lose hundreds of thousands of hours worth of items, dinos, structures, player data, and overall progress in a single game update.
these are interesting facts ... also how many use mods, how many don't .. how many are on nitrado .. how many aren't ... what are their logs showing ... can WC reproduce your problems ... what makes it so that the issue get reproduced .... I know from just a "I click on a website and my game runs" perspective it's all pretty simple... but from a dev enviroment with so many different clusters and setups .. it is not just so simple

if you are unsure where to post things. You could install beacon app on the PC , then load your ini files in that. And use the Beacon app to adjust your configuration. It is very easy to just change settings and produce ini files. Beacon will put stuff alphabetically in the correct files as well 🙂

I’m not sure though I’ve messed around with it a little bit but I don’t think it works super well with my old game.ini and gameusersettings.ini. I’m using a game ini I made from scratch from ASE and used it for ASA but it’s got a lot of issues
But I use bOnlyAllowSpecifiedEngrams=true and I have custom engram points per level I just don’t know how that all translates once I move it to beacon

Looks like the map works(?) if I added the -MapModID in the launch args but I can't even join it because of the Lost Colony Snow crash report I'm getting :L
If you want you can remove password stuff from your .ini files and dm me them. I will look what i can get done with beacon and send you the results. Basically you should just be able to import the ini files and he then reads the config . but if you are struggeling i am willing to help
have you tried using ethernet? I found wifi was getting saturated, and that if my husband tried to be in my base at the same time as I was, horrid lag. We moved to wired in and at the time this was spectrum's cable at like 400MB
my house is small enough that the wifi doesn't need repeaters
Wifi is suboptimal for gaming, add repeaters and from a technical perspective it gets even more terrible. You might have great coverage but the way repeating works does not help. Yes as above stated, choose ethernet cable that will help your problems go away

u can rent a server by paying a company to do the hosting for u (like nitrado or gportal). u can rent a virtual machine and manually host the server on them. or if u had the hardware u could host it inhouse

hopefully this is the right channel to ask -- I got a nitrado server and want to move my files from the nondedicated server I've been hosting to the nitrado server... is there any good youtube video tutorials on how to do this?
you have access to all the files in the saved folder ?
basically you can take the saved folder of your server and just upload the file. Also make sure the config you will use is also uploaded.
In Nitrado you can go to "tools -> filebrowser" and you will recognize the same folder structure when you go to arksa/shootergame/saved

My PC players can't see my servers today. Seems their clients are updated to 85.45 while the server is still on 85.44
Playstation & Xbox can find the servers, just not PC.

Hellloooo i have a couple questions. My friend started up a server and I was wondering if there is anything specific we need to set up in order or allow us to tp from one map to another map easily. Idk if its a modded thing or if its base game. All I know is that in other servers that was an option and I really enjoyed that.

Same for us since 83.24. Lots of items lost after servers restarts for our players: stuff, cryos in the cryofridge... Players spawn at coordinates 50-50 under the map (we didn't have this bug before this update, which was supposed to fix exactly this issue…). This problem affects all our maps, 12 in total.
We constantly have to give their stuff back to unhappy players. Please take these bugs into account. More and more server owners are running into this issue and we're not being heard. It's becoming a real problem — all this work over the past few years is going down the drain. Please take this issue seriously.

Title: Question for Ark Cluster Server experts: Is cross-server transfer actually possible using Radmin VPN or Playit.gg?
Current Situation:
I'm hosting an Ark Cluster from home. My ISP uses CGNAT, so I have to rely on tunneling/VPN workarounds. The main issue right now is: My friends can join the server perfectly fine, but they cannot transfer between maps.
What I've tested so far:
- Host PC (My machine): I have NAT Loopback set up on my router. Because of this, I can personally see all the servers in the cluster and transfer between them with zero issues (working 100% for the host).
- Radmin VPN (26.x.x.x IP range): My friends can connect and play on the server normally via Radmin VPN. However, when they access an Obelisk or Tek Transmitter to transfer maps, they cannot see any other servers in the cluster.
- Playit.gg: I tried switching to Playit.gg tunnels. The result is exactly the same as Radmin—friends can join and play, but the cluster list is completely empty when they try to transfer.
My Questions:
Is it actually possible to get Cross-ARK cluster transfers working for remote players when using Radmin VPN or Playit.gg?
Since they can join but can't see the cluster list, what exactly am I missing in the configuration? Do I need to set up MultiHome to a specific IP, or configure the ports differently in ASM (Ark Server Manager)?
If anyone has successfully pulled this off, please point me in the right direction. I've tried everything and I'm completely stuck! Thanks in advance.
okay there are a couple of cavats here.
First off all let me say that ARK via VPN van be a problem, because ARK cluster transfer expects direct UDP connectivity to my knowledge.
It also requires stable , publiclly reachable endpoints. and consistent IP's.
That being said your problem is not Radmin or Playit.gg.
if it works for you and not your friends then probably when transferring you server is advertising the other servers by their local IP address (192.168.x.x/24 or 172.16.x.x/16 or 10.x.x.x/8) and those are not reachable for your friends but they are for you.
You need to explicity set what IP address ARK advertises (the WAN IP address)
this you do with -MultiHome=x.x.x.x
Also make sure all ports are unique for each map. So don't reuse any ports for one server that you already use for another.
Basically best solution is:
Real Public IP or port forwarding
No CGNAT
Proper UDP exposure
Second best:
VPS with public IP
Host ARK there or reverse tunnel properly
Option C:
VPN + MultiHome
Works sometimes
Breaks Randomly
Requires some knowledge when it does break to fix it.
Hello everyone,
I’ve recently been facing a severe issue with massive upload traffic spikes on my server. My server is running on version 84.55. Whenever a player joins any map, the server upload bandwidth surges drastically, ranging from 20 Mbps up to 200 Mbps. This issue still occurs even when players create brand-new characters on a fresh save file.
Normally, I only have 10 to 20 online players spread across different maps. However, this abnormal traffic problem affects all maps in my cluster. I’ve already tried rolling back the server version to 84.41, yet the issue persists.
Has anyone else encountered this same problem? Could this be caused by incorrect server configuration? If so, what settings need to be adjusted to resolve it?

Okay maybe a few steps that you can check:

Can you find out if this is related to each player (so the per player upload is equal, but the sum is crazy ? )
-- Per player should not be more than 1mbps maybe 1.5 if it is really in a boss fight and all I would say. Not 100% sure but that feels logical. If anybody knows exact numbers feel free to pitch in.
-- This also makes you know if it isn't some bot army doing a ddos on your server -
Does it increase when a certain player joins ? or does it not matter who is on at all (bad connection == retries == added traffic)

You say it also is the issue with a fresh save file, so i will not assume that it is related to high number of builds, farms, turrets, and other automated systems that are making a lot of communication with the server.

Can you disable transfer to one map and see if it suddenly becomes more quite with traffic for people on that map ? In that case it might be cluster related

You state that rollback didn't help, but this can also be mod related. So if possible for testing can you setup a new server for testing and switch mods off. If there is a mod that is polling the server too much than this would suddenly cause a drop when that mod is disabled
The is an Unreal setting you could do (maybe) in game.ini ... but i have never tried this

I’ve checked, and it’s not only one single player causing the issue. Some players spike extremely high, up to 240 Mbps, and others hit around 100 Mbps. Overall, every player is causing abnormally high upload traffic.
I even tested without cluster travel entirely, and created brand-new fresh characters. Even new players still cause around 20 Mbps upload on join.
did you try to disable one mod , then another , then another ?
I’ve already removed every single mod completely. I even deleted the entire server folder, fully reinstalled and re-downloaded all server files from scratch.
Unfortunately, the extreme upload traffic issue still happens with no improvement at all.
I also asked Grok for some troubleshooting methods and I’ll test them tomorrow.
It’s getting late, so I’m going to bed now.

This would limit the per client rate... but again .. not sure if this will work
If you are awake again and are willing to share your setup network wise. Could be in theory just an issue there as well. But I can't tell without knowing how that part is set up
Is anyone having an issue with the modded map Forglar? Woke up today after playing all day yesterday and everything is gone, including builds, items, and all of our tames/dinos are floating in mid air, ect. Rolled it back 3x, and also did a previous save (backup) and it won’t roll back to get everything back. Any advice?
Curious if anyone knows how to combat a memory leak. This is the second time in two weeks where only one map within my cluster has an abnormally high memory usage and the ping/lag for all players is extremely high and others can't connect to the map entirely. Applied the 85.45 patch last night, and now Astraeos is unplayable due to the lag
Nitrado moved our service to a new hardware host, and it didn't fix it. Still unable to transfer into Astraeos and is unplayable for those on Astraeos
I don't know how to check the network configuration, but I set an upstream bandwidth limit of 20 Mbps by connecting the server to the network. The overall lag has improved significantly.

where did you set the upstream bandwidth ?
I configured the overall access bandwidth for the server on the router settings page.
I can imagine (but only a dev would be able to confirm I guess) that if connection is bad, or there is big latency that there will be a "retry" for certain data. That could cause one user to increase their bandwidth requirement far over the normal amount. If that then spreads to all users then suddenly you are getting flooded on the server just because there is bad connection to the server.
I tagged @low haven or @zealous aurora regarding my issue, but I doubt they will respond. Besides, there has been no update on the recent UE 5.7 development progress.
I have never tried a wireshark capture of the server with users connected. So i am not sure if you would be able to see if traffic is being "retried" either. If it is pure UDP than probably it is hidden in the application layer and you will not see it. If some of the data is TCP then you might see it in wireshark.
Yes, but I think the root cause of the problem still hasn't been solved. I've noticed that the traffic still spikes up to my set limit instantly. Limiting the overall bandwidth right now is only a temporary fix, just a band-aid solution.
Personally I give them time to reply on messages. I want to assume that proper in depth questions that have been diagnosed far from the "have you tried to restart it" before they are being tagged, might lead to more support. I work as a CTO in the tech industry myself, so thats why I don't mind helping to think along with issues. I might not know the details of the WildCard code. But i can relate to hardware / software / network issues on a well enough level to do some diagnostic thinking
You're absolutely right. We've done extensive troubleshooting, but we still haven't found the root cause of the issue. It seems that ASA traffic runs entirely over UDP, since I haven't opened any TCP ports except for port 3389, which is used for remote desktop access.

have you tried running a "pingplotter" type software from a remote WAN IP to your server to see what latency / jitter and packetloss it ?
I'm asking because f.e. if you contact you ISP about bad internet, and they ask you if you are on WiFi they will blame WiFi because in the majority of the cases it is the cause. So I would understand for WildCard to have a similar approach to blame it on "Not a partner hardware" , "your own internet connection" without any wrong intend, because in alot of cases it might actually be the root cause. So if you have viable tests done to proof that this is not the case it helps 🙂
I checked the traffic changes through Task Manager and Resource Monitor on my Windows server. I haven't used any network monitoring tools like PingPlotter as you mentioned, and I can't send you screenshots right now.
I recently switched to a new WiFi (ISP) provider, and I've already contacted them to run diagnostics — they confirmed there are no issues on their end at all.

I searched a bit and i read abt rolling back to pre acquatica beta and that worked but i have friends on epic games that can't do that so is there any solution that doesn't involve rolling back the game

I'm sorry, I'm not a sour troll, but if the company we pay to deliver a playable experience is not replying, none should be advocating this, "early access" or not..
I think most still have love for the game, but some of us might not be upholding in hosting it if it's made utterly impossible - we're not looking for a fantastic tame or 500 releases a year, we want a playable game!
If it's snail coming to spread WC resources too thin at least comment on that, we can channel the requests to the original point of failure - we just don't get any information...
Anyone ever have an issue with their self hosted server where players sometimes just disconnect with no feedback? As in, they get booted to main menu with NO errors of any kind. And in the server logs it just says they left the ARK, like it would if they had manually logged out.
The server is on a syncronous gig internet connection, enterprise grade networking gear, on a proper dell racked server, etc. Very short mod list:

I see the -DisableCustomCosmetics flag which I will try if necessary but I hope that's not the issue as there may be a riot amongst my friends, lol.

Check client-side in the advanced settings page. while I hope this is fixed, I disabled this a while back, because the game couldn't handle loading all (native) cosmetics and booted me transferring/joining
OK, so that setting would be more relevant to players who have a lot of items on their and have issues on login. The issues we're having are more while play and at random times. And it's not consistent who/when gets DC'd.
I'll not be in the way of a new bug report, though this is something I'm not familiar with yet, please go ahead and don't consider my tries to reply as answer to the issue at hand

the cases mentioned above where we were sent the actual save files and were able to investigate came back to random data corruption though. We encounter this with official servers on rare occasions also. Sometimes a rollback wayyyy back resolves it, and once or twice the server has been unsalvagable.
Why is there always crickets?
Its frustrating.
Btw to prevent reoccurrence, I found that rather than restart scripts, setting daily stops with 15-30 minute pauses before startups, to allow proper shutdown, helps greatly in recovering servers. Seems a leak keeps it alive too long.
This is after a full game reinstall and using backups that are over a week old.
Hopefully that helps some ppl.

We regularly experience crashes on astraeos; the crash stack logs point to Horde events. Does anyone have any idea how to stop this?
And if devs have little data to compare then im not suprised that the conclusion is "random" often patterns don't arrise until you look at big numbers. That being said even calling it random is an answer. Just not the answer anybody is hoping for. Personally i would be okay with a form of paid SLA. It gives expectations for sure, but also makes it so that its clear those expectations can not be present without the SLA. In the world i work in this is a very normal concept.
And before anybody complains about "money".. Nobody works for free, and alot of the clusters i have seen ask contribution from their players that sometimes even add up to more than their costs.. So basically they are running a business ... (Just saying)

I'm happy to hear an explanation of timelines making corrupt saving "outside the pipeline" not a priority due to snail's pushing, but so far it's just been silence or "random" unsalvageable.
Also I disagree on SLA, when financed by people, their issues should get addressed, but that's just my idealistic opinion..

And I think there we agree.. Idealistically yes, but not realistically. I would try to see what @wise kindle wrote as well. I think I am going to implement the same thing in my script. Make the "down time" between shutdown command and starting command bigger to ensure that the process is really closed. But instead of a timer I think the better way to do it is to watch for the PID to be no longer present. This way you have proof that the service has actually stopped.
from a business perspective, when i "bought" ASA for a $40 ( i don't even remember how much) + DLC's okay lets say I spend max $150 .. minus development cost there is little room for an engineer with a hourly wage of $100+ to look into my problems for it to be viable business

Its hard to say why mods crash. I think thats only a mod dev that can truly figure that out.
Apperantly its an issue that started since about a month. Multiple modders have been having this issue. (When you want to download/update that mod, the game crashes and doesn’t download the mod). Is there any way the ark devs can look into this?
Hi, i want to host a dedicated ASE cluster with 3-4 maps to play with 3-4 friends. I would like to add some mods such as s+, spyglass, dino storage and maybe 1 or 2 furniture mods. I got a i5 6th gen, 16go ddr4 and 250gb ssd. Is this enough ? And if it's not, what should i upgrade ? thanks
I think also for ASE with mods calculate about 12GB for most maps. Bigger maps go double. When it comes to a processor its about cores and speed. Every instance will lean heavily on one core so 4 maps you need more cores than 4 (don't want your OS to be without a brain either) save files can get big, and when you do regular backups (what i highly recommend) then 4 maps on 250GB sounds tight. I would say go for 500GB or maybe 1TB just to be sure
If it is only one mod that has this issue... Then i doubt this is something an Ark Dev would (should) look into. In that case its a Mod Devs job to look at his own project. And if there is a line between Mod Devs i would recommend them to use that

tried that already, nobody in the server apart from 2 people tried it, but didn't get a reply from the one that said it "worked" for them.

Our unofficial cluster has been suffering .ark file data loss effecting inventories and characters for more than a month now. Has anyone heard of any effort to remedy this? Sometimes people’s entire inventories with more than a years work stored in them completely wiped out by data loss. The error occurs and then once the servers are restarted sometimes days later the data loss becomes evident and multiple day rollbacks are needed.
They will release new maps instead of fixing the ones they have 😬

I'm planning to host a "cluster" that would have servers for every map, but only 2 would run at the same time for a limited time (while we transfer from one to another). Only me and my GF would play on it on LAN, it would run an older PC running Linux. My question is, is it viable to manually start and stop the servers based on our demand (because RAM is limited), and is 16GB RAM enough for 2 maps at the same time? That older PC has an i5 7th gen (maybe i5 7500, I can't check it right now). Storage is limited, it has an 1TB HDD and a 120GB SSD, it might be not enough. But are these specs enough for 2 players and 1-2 maps?
I doubt your pc will be able to handle 2 maps at once. It takes 12-16GB just to run the maps. So, you might run into lag. You could just try a cheap server host. It's easy to setup and like 20 or 25 bucks a month per map and you can cluster your maps so you can transfer to them whenever you want without having to stop and start anything. Just a suggestion, though. You might still be able to run it.. but like I said, lag or server crashes might happen.
If it's ASE, depends on the maps u can do 2 at a time
If on ASA u can 1 at a time
It's ASA, but I would start the 2nd map only to transfer there, then shut down the 1st. Maybe I'll host it on my own PC, that has 64GB, I hope running the servers and the game won't affect the performance too much

Honestly, I play by myself and when I want to transfer I just host 2 server at the same time in my PC (I also got 64gb)
I would play with my GF only and I already have a 2nd PC with Linux installed, i5 7400 and 16GB RAM, my main PC has 64GB and an i7 10700. I don't wanna pay for a server just to play occasionally on multiple maps 😄
Hey all. I set ForceStructureLockinf=True on my server but I decided against it a few weeks in. Setting it to False and even deleting the ini line does nothing, even to newly placed structures. How can I change this?

Its such a weird one. When i did a restart on the last update. The server day count reset to day 1 and will not change no matter what i do 🤣
They have reset server days count back to one a few times with updates on Astraeos, normally they say something about it in the patch notes though when it happens. I haven't seen it happen on any other maps
I also stopped playing and shut down my cluster in Feb, so haven't had to deal with any of the save corruption issues they have introduced with all the updates lately

Brother these save corruption issues are killing us. Every week data loss causing rollbacks 3-4 days. Players are losing hope.
If a new player joins an unofficial server and plays 3 days then loses everything, they are not going to play more and spend more money on this game. They really need to make an announcement or something that can be showed to players indicating it’s being worked on or at least acknowledged.

I still use the old save format to keep the profile and tribe data separated from the save. I also use my own archival backup scripting. The other thing I'm doing is using a folder synchronization application to maintain copies of the player and tribe files across all of my server folders which so far has been a rather good solution in maintaining player data integrity.
With Nitrado hosted servers you would need to automate this over FTP since I have no idea how their backups function. And you would need the server to be saving in the older format.
Nitrado use -usestore as default but you should be able to add -BackupTransferPlayerDatas
This should make backup player profiles outside the map save incase you'd ever need them

Anyone here been able to get ASA servers to run on Ubuntu server? Got a retired server from work and am trying to migrate everything running on my old systems onto it. When launching it, I get "System.PlatformNotSupportedException: Video driver not supported". The server in question is an old Dell R630.

Auto-favorited servers like that are not reliable. Sometimes they remain gray if the server has a new version or has changed its name. Always search the name just to verify it isn't actually up.
Most likely it needs to be updated still, but I've seen people wait forever unnecessarily :)

That may be a Major Version issue. If you're not on the same major version with both server and client, it doesn't show up.

I'm having severe issues with my cluster atm after this update, it has been crashing all day. Have spent over 10hrs troubleshooting. Ive narrowed it down to being a cluster/transfer issue with the -usestore save method for self hosted servers. My guess is player or tribute data is corrupted and baked into the map save because of the usestore method. Servers just crash over and over even with no mods or plugins and only works if you disable clustering. Have tried deleting everything in the cluster directory and nothing. I have over 100 active players waiting, would really love some insight.
you may have to do a rollback to a known good date. I had that issue when I used the usestore method, and the only thing I could do was wipe and start the map fresh. luckily I'm just soloing and I had backups of my tames, so I just had to start leveling my character again and rebuilding my base.

it just sucks cause if you dont use usestore method people lose their chars every couple days if they transfer around alot. basically without usestore if you transfer to a server and log out before there is a worldsave or you do certain actions (like ride a dino) you lose your char every time... its so stupid
and when you have 100 people playing it becomes unmanagable

that's fair, I only have 1-2 people playing on mine, so it might be a traffic issue. I've only lost my character once on transfer, but a rollback and retry on both maps fixed it, but I have stop the servers to do map rollbacks which isn't very feasible for a cluster with 100 players
I have all my servers on a 30 minute save period and moved to stouter hardware. previous machine was a 2014 era Xeon, current is a Ryzen 9 7900
I see this too; it seems that with custom stack size (no stacking mod!!), every resource gets duplicated until the max stack size is reached.

best thing you can do is disable transfers on your cluster and restart it so people can play without transfers at least, then enable transfers when WC releases a patch.

I cannot reproduce this on Linux/Proton/Windows servers using the old save format, but I could on Nitrado. It seems only resources duplicates during each server transfer until the maximum per stack/config is reached.

I played on a cluster hosted on nitrado and I'd get dupes of resources, ammo and structures if they were in my personal inventory. uploading to the ob's inventory little to no dupes
does anyone know the code I would need to change the tek binoculars to be able to be crafting in player inventory? if that's possible of course. I know it's a silly request because mods exist, but I'm trying to save as much space as possible. Thanks in advance!

we changed the cluster id on our maps so that there isn’t transferring until there is a patch. it’s extremely frustrating and unfortunate but we don’t want it being taken advantage of
