#ark-2
1 messages · Page 124 of 1
I would like to know if new features from Ark 2 might come to Asa, like the world events
Ark 2 and ASA will share the same engine, it makes sense to me they might share their assets and some of their features
Eh see that indiviual prospective interest, see I'm fine waiting to see how older creatures that make the cut look as it'll give me a reason to go out and look for them.
How I see that is if they reveal older creatures and someone doesn't like how one in particular looks from screenshot, then they may not bother going to check them out in game.
The thing is, the old creatures are supposed to be on ASA day one. Aren’t they? Or you think the only creatures confirmed to Asa Are the new creatures that won the contests?
I think everybody expects all old creatures from ASE will be on ASA
I would think so, but it pretty normal tendency where people do begin only going for tames that they actually regularly use or have a significant purpose. Which is why I gave the possibility if someone saw screenshot they didn't particularly like and they knew they wouldn't have a real purpose for the dino anyway they may not ever bother to ever go just check it out
As I’ve said above, they don’t need to share video footage or screenshots. I just want more info.
Saying they plan creatures TLCs without specifying all the details would be enough to me
Or sharing more info about the new features
I mean, they’ve said they stopped sharing the concept arts from ASA because people didn’t care much about those
Well, I can say for myself I’m not interest in the concept art of a tree or the new sleeping bag
I’m more interested in new info
They did say a gameplay trailer would come, I imagine that will be sometime in September, so that where I am waiting to check out.
And again, we are ~2 months from the release, I would be more comfortable if we had more info by now
The thing is, I’m not asking for a trailer, I want more info
For instance, do you know if the new “creatures management system” will be on ASA? Or the World Events? I’m more interested on that info
Well at this point I guess I'll just finish off this conversation with there will never be a game in development or post release that satisfies 100% of gamers and there will always be someone who wants more than given.
i think there might be a improved creature management system for ASA, but i highly doubt they're gonna add Ark 2 style world events and new big features/changes for Ark 2 to ASA
I’m not even complaining about the game itself. I’m complaining about the lack of info.
Fair enough, I would like them to tell us that. Would be enough to me
Didn't say you were complaining
But I’m complaining 😂
Complaining about the lack of new relevant info
Also, just to be clear, when they announced they would have a roadmap some months ago, I had the idea we would start getting more relevant info about Ark 2. But we got a postponement instead. Also we are in the dark about ASA.
Will just point back to this
I think I’m just disappointed about what I expected back then
But again, I have no complaints about the game. I don’t even know how is the game supposed to be. Just know it will run in the UE5.
yo are they really shutting down ark on the 31st????
only official servers
so unofficials are gonna be fine???
yes, it's up to the owners for what they want to do with their servers
Something I wonder if they'll do with ASA is mix up the dino spawn or not
Just as an example not one I think they would do.. Herbivore island and carno island basically swapped.
That the least likely unless they change the difficulty classification of spawn areas too.
See, that’s what I want them to do, to start talking, at least, IF they intend to change anything for ASA.
I don’t care about screenshots or videos. I want new info, and apparently you want that too. 😂
That just something I don't mind finding out at launch.
But don't you hear them, Joe? They want the info, and they want it now! /j
JG Wentworth pun? lol
Sorta, yeah 😂
@thorny tundra yee. i was referring to baby dinos
When does Ragnarok release for asa
aint at launch you can count on that, more likely few months later
Ok thanks
This is a text I complied based on the three survive the ark pages for ASA.
ARK: Survival Ascended will now be a standalone package released on every platform (PC Windows/Steam, Xbox Series S/X, and PlayStation 5) at $39.99.
The package will include the following pieces of content built-in (not sold separately), with each remastered and altered for the next-generation:
The Island (Released at Launch in October)
Survival of the Fittest: The Island
Scorched Earth (Release in December)
Ragnarok & Aberration (Released by Q1 2024)
Extinction, Genesis Part 1, Genesis Part 2, and all the community-created maps are also to be released over time in 2024 (Fjordur, Ragnarok, The Center, Lost Island, Valguero, Crystal Isles)
Assume a lack of statement is a lack of feature unless told otherwise 🤷♂️
They gave us a list of planned features, and you can assume that’s the list unless they show otherwise. Seemed pretty transparent to me. If more will be there, they’ll tell us or show us when they see fit
We (the community) currently only seek to punish WC when they provide us with news, so it’s not shocking that all we see is high level things or things that are very final. They tried to be more transparent, and were met with a pretty clear message of “we don’t care or don’t like it”
But they’ve said that in the announcement crunch: “…and more! (seriously, a lot more, this list isn’t exhaustive, but it’ll get super long if we list everything, and there’s more we’ll decide to do between now and launch too)”
So… I’m waiting them to say if anything else is coming to ASA
Waiting is what we’re all doing. Info will come when it comes though 🤷♂️
selam aleyküm
Sure, but I’m just addressing my concerns about the fact they’ve decided to stop sharing more info about the game
They did - in response to community feedback
i thought they would show it on gamescom. maybe theyre not proud of what they made.
They were sharing some concept arts, I would like to see some kind of “New Features showcase” or “Explaining QOL changes” etc
That’s my concern
They also receive pretty massive blowback for most major news releases. Look at how many folks lost their marbles when an offhand tweet was interpretated as a free UE5 upgrade
They got some pretty major negative commentary for third person only in ark 2…same for a lot of actual content news
So scaling it back makes logical sense. Showing low stakes concept art to get a community read on things and STILL getting told “no we don’t want or like that”…not sure what else you can do
Come on… there’s no misinterpretation. Jeremy said clearly it would be a free upgrade. After a while they needed to change their strategy, and that’s fine.
But it was them messing up with PR
Well, that’s what happens when you mess up. I just think going radio silent isn’t helping. At least I’m not too confident right now.
Radio silence is a huge help compared to tossing out plans and then backtracking
Yeah and no. I’m not asking them to talk about the big plans. I just want them to start explaining ASA more detailed. That’s all.
We’re not really obligated to get any news until launch or just before. And if the pre news winds up only bringing bad attention, it’s reasonable to not bother
I don’t even want them to talk about Ark 2 or the new ASA map. I just want to understand with more details what changes ASA will bring to the table
I’d love to hear more about ark 2, but my suspicion is that I won’t hear much until it’s more finalized. Which sucks because we had a brief period of seeing some amazing concepts and ideas. But it was ig not what the vocal folks wanted to see
We are not entitled to get anything, that’s for sure. But I’m just saying it doesn’t bode well IMO. And people will get more and more disappointed
People will do that anyway
People hear what they don’t want to hear -> disappointed
People hear something that isn’t their imagined feature -> disappointed
People hear the word “tentative” -> disappointed
is combat changing in asa ?
No. At least not that we know of
Well then… I might have the wrong impression that after the roadmap they would be talking more about what’s to expect for ASA
And that’s why I’m disappointed we have not
You may not be wrong in hoping for news. But WC’s PR has always been dubious, and after hearing from them about their perception of community responses to being transparent it’s just not shocking to see they took this approach
gotta always counting on shifter to defend them 😉
for me big part of the excitment about ark was exploring new areas, where danger could linger at any corner. but with same map and same combat, idk itll bring enough exitment. especially when i think about caves, where everything just clutters in a giant ball of aggro following you. id expect more realistic combat like snakes actually waiting for their moment to strike.
Gotta count on fox to struggle with nuance 😉
"soon"
My hope is that revised creature Ai and spawns will help make the map feel a bit better. But I’m also not nearly as invested
If they don’t fix the massive time sinks issue with ASE in asa, I’m content to wait for ark 2
Don’t count on Fox for anything. You can’t trust a man that doesn’t pay up on a lost bet.
wdym with massive time sinks issue ?
You need a ton of real life time to dedicate to ark to make it worth playing
Or stupid high rates ig
You can’t just poke a play session here or a couple hours there
Or a group of people where stuff can always be getting done
When I played ASE I had time to burn, so it was fine. But I don’t have that anymore. Ark 2 looks like it may be better for my gaming needs
i guess if you play pvp. but pve not really. if you put creatures in cryos theres nothing thats gonna vanish in less than a month
Spending a whole play session grinding mats is imo a waste of gaming time for example
Your whole base of you don’t refresh the timer
structures
Needing to spend centuries breeding stuff is the worst offender by far. But even sitting around waiting for a KO tame is just plain boring if I’m gonna only have a session a week
There is a quote on my profile that lands close.
The time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time - Bertrand Russel
some people play diabolo or mmos and kill the same mobs for days. i guess its in the eye of the beholder or however you say it in english. but yea grinding in ark also to me feels a bit repetitive at times.
No beef against ASE for that per se - I know I’ve changed so the game isn’t for me anymore. But ark 2 looks like it’ll focus on skill and be more engaging
isnt the timer a month or so?
Shifter I think your biggest issue is that you sit around and wait for tame and breeding timers. That’s all best left as background noise while you do other things
But what else IS there to do?
20 days for tek
Clear caves, tame more stuff….
If I have all the mats I need, and everything prepped for bosses…and all I need is 50 mutations. Nothing to do
LMB spam?
I loot goblin just fine, but in ark it just flips to tedium so fast
You're looking at it as if you're playing PvE and only thinking about the typical stuff you're expected to do.
Everyone is different and what one person likes someone else is going to hate. That a fact you can take to the bank
Yea I dumped PvP in 2015, because it was horrendous for me
I played games with better hitreg and no offlining if I wanted that 😅
What do you do with that fact when you get to the bank with it?
I don’t think the teller plays Ark.
I get that, but people weren’t so excited to see the new concept art of the new smithy or the new tree. I wasn’t either. BUT I would be more interested to know new info about ASA. Whatever they are ready to talk about.
May seem silly to some, but this is why I play Roleplay servers. PvE servers get boring pretty quick since usually nobody wants to engage with other players, but in RP you can still have reigned in PvP that you actually have a stake in. Plus some.of the stories people create are amazing and a ton of fun to get involved in.
I know it's not for everyone, and many might think it's dumb, but don't knock it 'till you try it
If they can’t talk anything about it ~2 months prior to release, I have a good reason to be concerned about the state of the game on release
What’s the time commitment on those? I miss the D&D energy I heard those brought. Kinda makes me hype for ark 2 gladiator RP tbh
Most studios don’t provide the kind of information you’re asking about until 1-4 weeks out. Perhaps we can be concerned October 15 if we hear nothing
It's as much as you're willing to put in, really. What kind of story you want to make or in-game goal you'd like to accomplish on the side
maybe there is just nothing to talk about and all theyve changed is some smithy, foundation and trees..
Most have boosted stats (within reason) so progression is possible while also building a world and story together with others
In that case they shouldn’t finish their crunch saying “and much more…” LOL
Sure, but there were so many changes of plan lately, that I need more info to get some hype back.
They say that because if they don’t folks will go “excuse me you gave us a whole exhaustive list?? What the heck is this”
Again, I’m not entitled to get any info. Just saying why I’m concerned.
I’m only trying to help reframe to perhaps help your concern
I have similar preference to PvP getting certain fighting games or FPS.
Ark for me took off when the group I played with got into unofficial where our long term play was community economy and interaction in PvE server. Had one great server where the owner had an auction house built and we used ingots as currency. Auctions would be bi-weekly. Independent trades would also primarily be ingots but that was individual discretion on private trades outside of an auction.
I want to like ASA, but I’m not so hyped because I don’t even know how’s it supposed to be
You’ll know close to release before you put money down, and imo that’s ok
I’d be pissed if they put out preorders with no info though
Thankfully PS and Xbox stores always have release date if their in the store lol
So should be safe to say
I wouldn’t be so sure they won’t do that 😂
They haven’t been that dumb yet 😂
I'm just looking forward to finding a good run unofficial they will include what I described above again. Cause it'll be interesting to see it in cross play community
the only thing thats ascended is their corruption & greed lol
Yet you're still here which suggests you're still interested in the product.
It’s about to be September hopefully we can get some sort of trailer or gameplay middle of the month. They did say some devs are playing it so fingers crossed
Eh to both of those. I think sloppy is more accurate
whats different from ark 2 and ark, apart from Vin Diesel rocking dinos
steam ark 2 page says everything you need to know
ghosts? mods same as ASE not on official server if there will be ones if the game actually comes out 🤣
on the steam page it quite literally says ghosts
?
I think that's more story flavor, emphasizing that there will be less of a focus on Tek
Not like ... actual ghosts
ark2 is when youll get your asa competitor
yeah prob
And ark2 is also when Ill need to get a pc with 5 tb free space probably
maybe
If Japanese devs made ark it would be 500mb for sure
is the ghosts you mention is from this paragraph "Starring Vin Diesel ("Riddick") as legendary ARK hero Santiago, experience an epoch-spanning adventure as he seeks to protect his daughter Meeka -- voiced by Auli'i Cravalho ("Moana") -- from the ghosts of the ancient past and visions of a new future."
yeah
My statement was more that the tweet was a promise of asa being free - could have worded that better lol
thats refering the stuff that santiango did and what's to come
cringe support
This channel is not for support. Go to #general or #bobs-with-probs as I've said. Thanks.
You can completely port things from UE4 to UE5 surprisingly easy using the Migrate option
When people don't understand how drastic of a change nanites implementation is you get comments like the one from KOT
Thing is, my company and the one we are collaborating with have been doing it for a couple of years at least with the high res assets we have been using
Tried to upload them. The game that we had in the demo reel was done in Unity and nearly every asset there has been upgraded over to unreal 5.
There are difficulties to be sure, especially given the history of Ark. I've been playing since it was only the island map way back in early beta days and they have come a LONG LONG way.
My comment was specifically on the portability of things from UE4 to UE5
The two images I sent you were all UE4 assets that we upgraded to UE5. The demo was old Unity assets that have since been ported to UE5 as well
Our coding has had to be redone a good bit for the Unity assets since Unity and Unreal use two different languages, but our UE4 only took a small amount of updating.
How could you have been porting things to UE5 for years, when it just came out this last year?
That an interesting point 😂
No, it came out a little before summer of 21
You also might want to inform these other companies who have been porting their entire games over to ue5 with little issue that it isn't feasible along with Epic games themselves
According to Unreal, it was released to access in May of 2021
You're mistaken, it was released in April of 2022
Unreal Engine 5 was revealed on May 13, 2020, supporting all existing systems including the next-generation consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.[113] Work on the engine started about two years prior to its announcement.[114] It was released in early access on May 26, 2021,[115] and formally launched for developers on April 5, 2022.[116]
It ended testing in April
Read that last sentence....
Formally launched in April 5th 2022
Worked pretty decently in early access
Still doesn't check out that you said years, when it's been 1.5 at best
more than one is plural 🤔
Cool 👍
Would be if someone were to do that. Not really rough when dabblers claim knowledge in the face of evidence
Same, folks from Disney, Sony, Pixar, EA, Epic, LAFS, etc.
The game itself is currently still in design phase, but currently features portal travel between 3 different universes, vehicle use on land, sea, in the air, and in space, vehicle modification, item creation, character creation from a large pool of influences across sci-fi, fantasy, and post-apocalypse, magic usage, skill trees from all 3 universes that level up based mostly on usage (still a lot of fleshing out but similar to Entropia), etc. Total lines of code I couldn't tell ya. Last count was well over 300k but as you said, coding is not my specialty.
When you are discussing your career, you typically choose A title/skill. I also write, do editing, compositing, vfx, voice acting, modelling (should specify digital as I don't do work as a model anymore), and a few other things
🍿
I'm hard capping and yer reaching 😉 We were showing some environmental sets and a few assets at the time and had since decided to stop putting those things out to focus more on the quality of what we are working on as well as the collaborations we are working on with a couple other studios. We will be putting more out closer to when we start attempting to expand our financing to include other revenues rather than put a bunch of stuff out now that might not be included down the road closer to when we start considering the game more refined
when is the data drop going to happen for ark ASA?
when are we going to see game play and details...
It should be coming out in the next few weeks right?
October sometime
oh sh*t that long
what is ark survival ascended? a whole new game?

Shit thats gonna be fire
her is my new ark song tomorrow tomorrow the ark server will kill you tomorrow lol
Is ark ascended gonna be on game pass tho
not confirmed by Wildcard but it's part of the ASA + Nitrado deal as one of the conditions iirc. until then just October
We only have October as the release window. No exact date yet
I’m gonna be studying for exams 😔
There’s so many fire games releasing at the end of 2024 tho which I will be able to have time to play
you do know Ark 2 is only coming to next gen playstation consoles after PC and Xbox if there is a deal made for a PS version for Ark 2 right? bc atm it's a launch exlcusive deal made between Wildcard and Xbox for PC and Xbox series X/S
guys when the remake is released we wont get it for free even though we payed for this one ?
you just said its a remake so how you come up whit that "free" thing, because you bought the first version? its like you bought a 1977 ferrari but you should get a 2023 ferrari because you bought the old one
when will asa be released ?
October is the release date window
Yeah
Oh yeah is ark 2 gna be cross play?
yes, it's planned to be crossplay just like ASA
Might be a dumb question here, but does anyone know will this simply be an update to ark or a game we need to completely install separately
Separate install
Appreciate it thank you. Haven’t paid much attention to it as of recently and forgot a lot of things about it haha

Here a generously voluntarily put together text from all three survive the ark pages summing up ASA.
And this will be available for purchase at early release in October and no pre order?
Yes
You and and me both
Has there been any more release tease content? Besides dossiers and new Dino’s voted in?
Last thing I saw was some tools, and a tree, and rebuild of the stone/wood house template
Na, they got mixed responses so decided to stop doing teasers
No matter what you release, there will always be mixed responses. Can’t let that stop you, but I guess we will have to just wait for the big reveal.
Except it's missing significant info about Asa lol
i would still own my old ferrari but if they take it from me because they created a better one its there responsiblety to compensate me
You're 100% right about that. It why honestly there certain games after I play and enjoy previous one to a certain extent I am good with getting the next one and we'll go as long as it stays like that.
For me there is only currently ASA, Ark 2, and GTA 6 that are coming up that have a guaranteed purchase from me regardless.
ASA and Ark2 are 100% going to be purchased by me regardless the mixed reviews because yes I enjoyed the first one I would like to see where they go with it regardless what they are changing. Be up to myself if I continue to play it after purchase but I won’t let other people’s mixed reviews and responses dictate that for me.
thats just a scam how you all cant see it
Idk they remastered FF7 I purchased that and enjoyed it. I don’t see a difference here.
They aren't taking it away lol, you'll still have ase
It's like taking away a free gas subscription for your Ferrari because it went out of date
nah dude they sayed the orignal game servers will be shut down forever
Yeah cause here a little check and balance with the mix of comments in this server. Even the people with negative ones are probably getting it because they're still in here watching the progress so as bad as some people like to badger what Wildcard is doing I guess they must be doing something right cause if Wildcard was actually as bad as some of these people like to go on about they would move on to something else they had true interest to.
The online official servers not the game itself.
Official yes. They said that like 2 years ago before Asa was even a concept
Wc isn't bad. Snail and nitrado are
You can still do unofficial and dedicated there will just be no officials. As official will move to ASA
Even if Asa wasn't a thing, official ark1 was still going down at ark2 launch
That was in the plans for years lol
thats the proplem the best part of the game is official servers and a lot of gamers bought it for this
Most of the playerbase doesn't even play on official
Objectively that's not the best part
Sorry didn’t think that would be that big
i do thats not my proplem
It sucks that the people who enjoy official are losing their stuff, but that's how games work
I only play on official on pc
That’s like every time a new iPhone comes out lol, you lose the old one and get the new one.
Everyone still does it, and pays for it *shrug because you like the brand.
The obvious thing is that the company has become incredibly greedy. All they care about is money without caring about the satisfaction of the players. They destroyed ARK mobile with their greed, and I lost everything I paid for there. Now they say they will close the game I paid for and I have to pay again like wtf !!!
I don't do that, because apple is trash tbh
I see you're new here points to leaf on your name
The game has been out for 8 years by a company substantially smaller than most other companies maintaining a game that was a one time purchase game and DLC. There no micro transactions, battle pass, etc.
I'm sure if you volunteered to pay the 3k a month Wildcard paid to keep up the official servers they would let them stay up. More than time to move on to something for the next generation of gaming.
Just am example you could say the same thing about getting a newer model of your car, or android or computer. We are always upgrading and paying for the newer models
Ark mobile was not run by wc, and you paid less than the average cod player for any single cod game and got 8 years of playtime
I mean, it's a great analogy if you do that. But not everyone does lol
Yeah never 100% of everyone. Just like this game not 100% of its player base is going to buy ASA. Just the ones who want it
Omg that stupidly large GB size takes up 50% of my console and has to be in the internal xD
I think I already flabber gassed them with my post, they might try going in hiding now with your post and mine 🤣
This is my take to, provided it seems worth it to me after launch
I was before 100% going to buy it, and then the nitrado crap came out and I am now on the fence
Right, I’m going to have to purchase the SSD internal expansion before ASA comes out
PC are way more expensive than just buying an expansion card.
They last longer than your console though
I mean me neither
But the amount of bs consoles deal with because of Microsoft and Sony is absurd
Yeah I would play all, but my console easier for me to take places xD
rockstar made a remake of gta vicecity and san and still if you bought the old one you can still play it i know its a little far comparison but same consept
My console is super portable.
im sure they didint asked me to pay 3000 when i first bought it sounds like there finiachial proplem
don't bother with him, it's no use from what the convo has been up to now
As long as they don’t take down officials on ASA for ARK 2 xD
not like I ever play official anyways wouldn’t concern myself with that.
then at least make it cheaper for those who already have the old one wtf is $40
$40 for the base ASA game and every Ark SE DLC
It’s a different game? Not an expansion though
must've watched a clickbait article or video
A one time purchase game that has been maintain for almost a decade, what your first clue, Einstein? Money only goes so far genius. Just like development needs to stop for Xbox One and PS4 because it holding back substantial progress. It time to move on to ASA so Wildcard can start seeing how their assets react in the new engine so it helps polish out any potential issues when Ark 2 gets ready to launch.
That’s like asking for lower prices every time a CoD came out because you had the previous ones
What are we wanting alumni discounts now?
at this point probably
yes it should be that way why not
Because it's not free to make new games
Thanks @gloomy prawn for asking that question cause his response to that proved he either a real life NPC or just a alt account troll that decided to come in and spark reaction. Time to block sal and get back to having conversations with actual logical people.
Modern Warfare 2 Hits $1 Billion In Revenue In 10 Days / hmmm maybe you should rethink of it
Cod is a special scam of their own
bc it's Cod, very few games are as popular as Cod
Diablo 4s revenue just because it was Diablo 4
you still can buy ark for $15 on steam and not every one bought it 8 years ago
But the game was not free to make, just because it made money? They still have to pay 100s of employees salaries for months or years to even make the game before launch.
can't wait for the follow-up to this one
Lol
I mean if you can name one game that uses the same market strategy as ark that has done a free remaster, I would love to hear about it
thats the point if a company is making more than a country budget in few days then why not support there loyal fans
They supported you by spending millions producing the next installment lol
Comparing wc to cod is a stretch
a big one at that
Everyone knows at this point that cod just recycles the same game and charges exorbitant prices, and then makes a killing off gullible people who like skins. So far, ark hasn't done that
I am not convinced yet that Asa isn't worth the purchase. But at the same time, the nitrado deal is the big issue imo. Not that they are charging for asa
The created ASA for us, spent time and money. To give us a remake + some to something we all enjoyed since launch or whenever you purchased it. I say thank you to giving me an upgraded version
Well, I used to say that. But then nitrado and snail did their thing
Eh Nitrado lol
It is really going to screw over the unofficial scene
Basically forcing Unofficial servers to be hosted by one company exclusively
They want a monopoly for Arks unofficial?
Basically, and they have it with the deal unless there are other ways to host servers
Well that’s like games being only xbox or only PlayStation exclusive.
Don’t know the extent of the deal, but hopefully Nitrado will up its game cause it has indeed suffered
I haven't used Nitrado in a while, but I wasn't impressed with their service or features
It wasn’t impressive and it seemed to always be down, or having technical issues, hopefully whatever deal they made gives them money to improve these items
And now they have exclusive rights to all unofficials lol
Yeah and ark2
So basically, mods and unofficials are screwed over for the foreseeable future
yeh i definitly gonna wait and see how well ASA will be for a while than make my decision cause all this crap dosent bold well
Guess we will see what they do with this.
They have that, it's A and D
Like the ointment?
Like to peek around corners? Or stick your head out from behind a tree
xD
I can just the horror videos, ASA… the island, your lvl 5, running through the forest, you hear a noise and light your torch to look around, you slowly turn around and see a bob sticking his head out from behind a tree, you double take and he’s gone .. then you get hit by a troodon. Game over.
more like "then you get disconnect" or "then you rubberband 50 times" or the special i was getting more then disconnect when i play on ps4 "then your game crash" 🤣
more then disconnect? Did someone from wildcard come over and slap you in the face?
when ark was in EA on ps4 it was crazy the amounts that the game crash even after the official launch until 6 months after extinction was about 60/40 disconnect/crash
Your actual hardware can fail in rare circumstances, some games in the past have had this happen (GPU killers)
Yeah I had in on Xbox, and I would crash quite a bit, either a disconnect or back to the Xbox home.
Probably the first 2 years the game was out.
And I would always disconnect in mid flight, never in my base.
specially if you where flying whit a wyvern even not putting points on speed right?
ahh those where the days eh, speedy wyverns
those days sucked lol. if you wanted to turn around with a wyvern back then you had to fly across half the map to make a 180
Volition is being shut down
Not surprising.
Sources say it was of their own volition
Pickle Rick will tam you all
When its coming out
When is what coming out?
ark 2
No set release date, only thing known so far is it is slated for 2024
rip
ASA comes out in October though which is where we get a good preview of what we can start expecting from the new engine prior to Ark 2
You can always try a stool softener
whats that
Do you think they’ll fix the megalosaurus AI? I hope they add an option where you can turn on pick up or drop, just like you can turn on and off turret mode on Dino’s. Also, that megalosaurus don’t do damage to things after picking them up. It’d help solo players a ton. Everything that grabs and is land base does damage besides the argy when it picks little Dino’s up
Fluidity in actions is always a good thing, but not sure if it ever going to be perfect scenario for someone solo considering Ark has never been shy with being an open book it more centered on having an active tribe.
doesn't matter if it's not or if it is, can still give QoL changes
All creatures with special attacks should have a toggle to turn them off on unridden AI if desired
I think there is a whole bunch of things they could do to give solo players and tribes more control over dinos. However I am not sure how good it would be for the game.
well we all know that, thing is it's fine to ask for fixes and qol lol
even if it's nothing major
F them theiven birds
I don't understand, are you arguing that we should tell them not to add QoL toggleables to the various abilities? Because, what, one guy says it'll be helpful for solo players? TF??? No wonder WC doesn't talk to us any more, lmao
The only communication we have now is with Polls xD here are you choices and go.
They never cared abt what we said to begin with
I mean. They could make it to where the damage requires input.
Like the argy or the wyvern….
it wouldn't make it pointless wtf, it's just adding onto an extisting feature
One of the things I dislike the most in this community is all this gatekeeping effort. The game should get QoL changes whenever it’s possible. Solos, duos, trios, smalltribes etc. whenever they can implement stuff to please everyone, it’s a good thing. It’s not like the majority of Ark players are playing on the pvp mega tribes servers.
another cc another nothing about anything important
nah that wasnt the only reason. You are assuming a lot there. Have you ever had a army of megalo. They waste all their attacks to try and pick something up even if it cant be picked up. Their damage is hardcore nerfed because of that
just give us the option to turn that off. The low damage from when their picked up may as well be cancelled to is all im saying
To answer this, just make it like other dinos where after they pick something up, such as with argies beak, it doesnt automatically continue mauling the creature. This wasnt even the issue lol. The main thing is itd be fun to have some variety with boss armys in the game. The issue with megalos is that they spend to many of their attacks trying to pick their enemy up rather than attacking. Make that toggleable is all im saying. You can keep fixating on one sentence tho if youd like lol
Emphisis on having endgame dino variety rather than just rexes, shadowmanes, and theris lol. There are two dinos i personally love and have always wanted to do boss fights with, but neither of them are even remotely comparable to rexes and theris. They are the megalosaurus and gigantopithicus. The little gorillas got hardcore nerfed into the ground. They level terribly.
They were soo op in og sotf though lol
really haha!? I should have tried it. I didnt really start until the major update and left once crossplay was turned off.
I heard they were awesome pre nerf
now they are just cool little features visually to see in ones base
I played on a server where this guy built the eye of sauron tower and bred up super gigantopithicus. It was so cool. He went into a fight with like 100 of them against 10 theris of another tribe and got decimated lol
megas are actually the gigas of aberration but i do get what youre talking even more since on pve the grabbing attack dosent work at all so its slower than a normal attack
Reapers are the gigas of aberration
Yee. Megalos are the rexes of abberation. I’m just saying that one QoL update of making the grab a toggleable thing like turret mode is would put them in as an option for boss fights with the other usual Dino’s. When a megalo picks a Dino up it’s damage doesn’t go up with higher melee. It’s like a set 20-60 damage or something like that. I can’t quite remember
I think it was unintentional to have them waste 50% or more of their attacks on trying to pick a Dino up that they can’t pick up. I’m just drawing attention to it in hopes they fix it
well its more of a switching out from A.I attack list and leave it for player only to grab but trying to get attention yeh good luck whit that
Yeah that would totally work. Thank you! I’m not sure if they ever really look at suggestions here, but figured I’d give it a shot.
naa they wont, same thing whit the sleeping pattern they put on megas as a experiment if ppl would go for it to put it on all dinos before leaving EA but that idea was scratch and yet only megas remain whit the sleeping pattern
and since they are over their heads whit all this shenanigan of ark2 to ark 1 UE5 to ASA remaster/remake early access (first in gaming history) adding or fixing certain stuff i not seeing that happening
I still don't see how adding toggles for abilities (like the breath attacks, or turret mode, both of which are viewed as extremely useful mechanics, I'd say) is anything but good, lol
Voidwyrms dont have turret mode nor allow ai special attack
There’s a mod that fixed it - it should be vanilla in asa
Wdym by toggles
Uhhhh, toggles? I don't know how else to say it, when you toggle something, it's either on or off, like you toggle a switch or setting
Yeah but how can you toggle an ability 😭
You just click it once and it happens
You mean people want to infinitely breathe fire?
I really don't know how else to explain it to you, there's already toggleable abilities in the game, as I said
Maybe look at those abilities to see what I mean?
I think he’s confused about what toggle actually means
It's more for unridden creature AI
Megalosaurus for example will spam their 1 damage grab attack against creatures way too big to be grabbed which ruins their damage output. Having a toggle option to enable or disable that grab attack when not being ridden would be a nice QoL update
The better dinos mod addressed this. Not great for official.
It IS silly that you can pick things up and choose to damage them with an Argi and not a megalo
If it your tame 100% should have the option to do damage or not.
So ark assended is gonna cost how much on xbox if i have game pass?
don't think it's launching on gamepass, so $40 for ASA wich includes all Ark SE DLC and base game. only thing not included is the new ASA DLC coming later on
Oh ok thank you
That correct, ASA won't launch on game pass. However Ark 2 will when it gets ready to launch.
I don’t know, man. Microsoft might just replace ASE for ASA once it’s out. Depending on how successful it is.
Wouldn’t make sense to keep ASE on Gamepass after the official servers go down.
ASA probably will be on game pass at some point, but they have stated ASA would not launch on game pass
Really? Where/when? I missed it
Let me look for the survive the ark
it would be a life savior is Bee clicked on this channel cause she has the 3 related for ASA saved I believe.
Okay had to do some article searching to. It hasn't been dismissed from game pass, but it also is something that is not being confirmed either.
Day One releases on game pass are a pretty big deal in terms of player audience, and based on that it safe to say at this stage it most likely will follow on game pass at a later date.
Now unless that "game play trailer" they talked about before ASA launches which is a good possibility and a smart business move cause it will capture a lot of attention close to release if that when they announce it on gamepass.
I'm an hour late BUT here
When ASA is released. Will the mods work the same way as ASE where we head to the Steamwork shop? Or is Overwolf gonna be sole place we go get them be it pc/console.
Also are mods not gonna be free anymore?
gotta wait and see
I was afraid that be the asnwer. I'm just so suprised that the game is coming out in a month and we still know so little about it. I dont think there has even been an official trailer with in-game gameplay.
nope no gameplay so far, you gotta a tree a bench couple walls all in UE5 and the suppose price that will be for game base and all the old dlc's
now seems nitrato as made a deal whit snail games that seems to force anyone that whats a server to have to deal whit nitrato only and for mods so far if not mistake you will have premium mods that as to be pay and free mods too all supervise by overwolf plus ASA will be in EA at release
that sums up all info until now
The noterun will exist in ASA ?
Hopefully not, but no mention of any changes
I would like to see noteruns removed as well as base experience multiplier lowered.
That’s not a joke. The current speed of leveling even in 1x is a major factor in making a majority of tames and engrams useless.
If they can solve the pvp issue of it (ie you are required to have turrets/metal structures really to even begin surviving raiders) then that would be interesting.
💯 a reworked level curve would be nice
You speed level to 60 and then slow to a crawl, then from 70 to 105 you speed level and then slows to a snails pace
I was thinking that but then I wonder why they even bother with cloth/hide armor, thatch/wood buildings etc
Even from a PvE side of things, you are in chitin armor -- a bite from a snake will have you eating half a stack of stimberries
then once you get flak you are basically immortal until your flak breaks (ie safe from most PvE)
Wood is much cheaper and easier to source than stone for one
In ark? They both generally seem to turn into the same level of tedium
Hitting 100 in an hour or two is pretty common
You must not know Art Vandelay - Importer - Exporter
💀
is ark 2 and ark survival ascended the same thing?
No
oh
One is a remaster the second is a sequel
i see
@upbeat panther no they are not
.
In a way, yes. They are both vaporware.
J/k 😂
bring on the preorders eh 😉
I was so excited for Ark 2, now I barely think about it...
Is ark 2 and ark ascended the same thing
No, one is a remake, the other is a sequel
in theory
remake would mean that they are recreating it, but they are using the same assets just in a different engine and adding some things on top.
Have you not been seeing the updated asset teasers? 😂
Regardless, I'm not getting into this arguement for the upteenth time
theyre not redoing code, theyre just reconnecting it. if a code has a function, you can reuse it. u just need to relink the sources.
its more like if you have a puzzle and you start over again. you still have the same pieces but you need to figure out how to get them in place.
"We want to provide you with an evergreen classic ARK experience, one that can continue to grow over time on a cleaned-up code base, making use of the new technological advancements not only in the industry but also in what we are working on with ARK 2."
ain’t it supposed to come out in October but there’s still no pre orders lol
That’s not by any means what a remake is. Actually any developer will use old assets when possible. I assure you ark 2 (a completely new game) will use assets from ASE/ASA/packs from the UE5.
The basic difference between a remaster and a remake is the first is just a visual upgrade and the second upgrades the visuals but also changes other aspects/features of the game. At first they intended to do a remaster: just upgrade the engine. Then they’ve decided to develop a remake: update the engine + QOL changes + new features etc.
i remember they even said they were doing a new code line cause ASE was spaghetti but dint find now, but again thats whats on paper until its release and someone that verifies if they actually made new code lines
A new game can use old code from an old iteration. There’s plenty of examples. Any big franchise will do that.
They just improve on old code/assets
but thats not what im talking about as i cote above what was mention on a CC
They don’t throw everything on the garbage when developing a new game
I know, I’m just adding to what you’ve said. They might use some of the old code and it still can be a new game.
Asa is new game, the only reason they will call it a remake is because: 1 - it has the same story/lore. 2 - same characters
I mean, based on they’ve announced so far of course. I have no idea on what they are developing behind the scenes
well they said on 356 CC they make new code, so if they go sell ASA whit the same code line foundation thats just going for cash and nothing else since they always blame the foundation code on ASE to be the real problem that they couldt fix which made more problems after
I never saw them saying that, they’ve said they are using a new engine though
Im sure they will use the good parts of the old game
And still, it can be a NEW game
check 356 CC on "No longer a backward-compatible free update?" second paragraph
“an evergreen classic ARK experience, one that can continue to grow over time on a cleaned-up code base, making use of the new technological advancements not only in the industry but also in what we are working on with ARK 2.”
yeh thats what i reply to siggi
I mean, cleaned up code means to me they will fix everything broken
If there’s at least one good line, why not reuse it?
yeh but i remember there was a CC where they mention ASE had a spaghetti code line and they were making all new, i just dont remember which CC but i dint find on the 3 CC that was about ASA
Yeah, I remember that, but again, when a dev says “everything new” means to me they still can use whatever is working and fits the new product
Makes no sense to just throw the old assets on the garbage
But that’s me, I can’t say what they will really do
either way will see on launch how the game will be i for sure gonna watch this time carefully on youtube/streamers cause its lots of red flags for something this rush
plus i dint even play ark 2 to re-buy the game that i spend years playing it
when dose ark 2 come out
TBA
to be announce
thats what is on steam and stick whit it, other will say end of 2024 which wont happen
No official release date, only time line is currently slated for 2024
GOD
code tangled with too many things so changing one thing changes a bunch of things that shouldn't be related
The analogy is to a pile of spaghetti. You don’t know what the noodle you grab is connected to
The point is that it takes a long time to “fix” anything, because it’s not like a bug is sitting there waiting to be fixed
The bug may be lying in the middle of the tangled mess of spaghetti…and it may be connected to all sorts of stuff nobody knows about
If you don’t know what is connected to what, it becomes very difficult to avoid bugs and create new content without introducing a ton of bugs
Not sure if that answers your question…since “the issue” ark has is different to everyone. Some folks it’s bugs, some folks it’s a mechanic, some folks it’s a server host
i hear that ase has bad optimisation will ark 2 have it too?
All bugs could be fixed if WC had infinite time and resources. But they don’t
So functionally, yes, some bugs are nearly impossible to firmly fix because of the structure of the code
ASE or Asa?
ase
Short answer - won’t know until it comes out
ah ok
Yes. The idea is that instead of cleaning a mess - make a new plate of pasta
Way cheaper on time and resources, and it can be structured slower and with growth in mind (rather than ASE, which was built likely as a minimal viable product)
When you’re early access, you need things out the door asap to get money or you go belly up and the project is dead. When you have actual money like WC has now…you can be slower and focus on quality
(We’ll discover if that plays out ofc, but that seems to be the planning)
They kinda do in crunches
But a lot of this is business and industry knowledge. It’s not WC specific perse, and gamers usually don’t care about that level of detail
That’s a promise - and they can’t do that if the product doesn’t yet exist imo. Especially if it’ll be read as “all bugs fixed” which is never true
Think of ground up as a promise of “bugs will be easier to find, and new updates will create less bugs”. That’s certainly gonna be true with a cleaner code base
Yes, but I don’t know if Asa will be a larger product and thus occupy similar size. The relative size should be smaller
But if you can imagine 100 spaghetti noodles in a huge mass on a plate versus lined up in the box…that’s kinda how the file size should work
Graphics are always bigger than code
Np. Happy to help!
Always good to explain something more interesting than “ark 2 when” and “is asa ark 2”
Then it should be a fraction of the size plus narrowed down because of the DLCs not all being there
I’m hoping 40 gb
can you give suggestions anywhere? i think im blind
you really think wc as time for suggestions whit 1st delay for ASA and 3dr delay for ark 2???
When the release date for ark 2?
atm end of/late 2024
The Island will probably be 40gb by itself xD We have to account for next gen texture upgrades and higher poly models my friend
Any suggestions can go on the forums online, but you'll need some serious upvotes to gain any traction
Yes that’s what I’m saying I doubt the island alone will be 40. If they keep their stuff tidy and don’t add extra junk then it’ll be good
well starfield its a failure lets see how well ASA will be
The 'very positive' reviews on Steam, and the 70%+ on most review sites would disagree.
It wasn't everything people where overhyping it to be. But it is a standard Bethesda game like Skyrim.
And they'll probably sell 20+ versions of it just like Skyrim
What? I would love to fail like that… 😂
Also, not even remotely related to ASA or ARK 2
Ah yes, Starfield is a failure, because... * checks notes * you have to move your ship a little bit every now and then to be able to technically explore the whole planet? Boo fuckin hoo lmao
Go land on a gas giant or something 🤣
Ark 2 will have each creature with a GPT brain like the GPT mod for skyrim? that gives all the NPC's GPT brains so you can simply give them voice andor body/sign language commands for them to understand and they have unique memory and unique personality. Also instead of fixed animations , instead make animation ranges so each Brain can decide how they want to and can walk based upon their health/brain state ?
Also all we need is one big map the size of Australia.
I already despise ATLAS's comically large map that has no good fast-traveling system.
Having a map the size of a whole continent is....'yikes'
I have, and that game has fast-travel.
Time you spend walking is time you can spend leveling up.
Ah you see a GPT game monitor can be built in which will notice any cheating through visual recognition and properly disconnect those who are.
GPT isn't even meant for stuff like that, people just use it anyway.
It's actually meant for coding advice. That's what it was made for, and that's what the developers developed it for.
no, too resource heavy
are there any mid sized fps without cheaters
like to a significant degree
maybe the larger fps explicitly designed with esports in mind might have minimal cheating
i can already see what minority ark player he is
Let's rephrase even further, as that form of the question is extremely loaded and cannot be answered by the common man (you can't know that, for instance, Bobby Kotick is cheating on CoD, until proof is presented as it has been with Snail and Shi Hai.) So, here goes; How many games have their own publisher/parent company actively using cheats in their game, and have been found out or have proof to that fact? There you go, now you can be smug and snide, as that is a rather unknown number (which I imagine is greater than one, but I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt here 😉 )
There a good reason I never put much stock in post from people on discord who can't even put some sort of image on their profile.
This also impacted our decision to sunset the ASE Official Network offline on August 31st, shortly before the ASA launch. Despite ASE Officials representing the minority of players on ARK
i was refering to you likely being a official pvp player but whatever, couldn't care less about Snail
Also, answering a question with a question denotes very little speaking power in the conversation at hand, answer @south lance 's question first at the very least
🤣
if the anime profile is irrelevant, then you shouldnt care about it, hence seeing joes arguments as valid
you should improve that statement
Ark 2 will be available on pc on what date exactly?
Ah, I see. The clown defense. Get tf outta here lmao
noone knows
its wildcard
OK thanks
atm planned for early access pc and Xbox series x/s launch wich is targeting a late/end of 2024 release atm
Thanks man
it was announced end last year, as he said, but as everyone knows, wildcard is probably going to move the release date quite a few times
They may, but I have faith they will make good this time. A year and a half is a good amount of time to produce an early access, at least playable build of a game
when did they release something on time lol
except for asa which they have to drop til october 31
That being said, I can't remember if Ark 2 specifically is going to be EA or not 😅
I know ASA is
ea?
it's still gonna be EA launch unless that changes during the 1.5 year extra time
early access
No worries, sometimes the brain sees the greater evil in the acronym
+1 brownie point
got my vote
i think ark is an rpg long-term fortnite game with a shit ton of uncompression and bugs as well as many exploits [that have worked for 4+ years at that]
wouldn't call it an fps
cheaters gonna exist anywhere on any game. there's no respect for games these days due to the pure incompetence and negligence of AAA companies just pushing out garbage
i could vouch for that. I found it hard when i first played dark souls as a child
stressful at times for sure
ark 2 will be a game of rolls 🤣
it will be a game of vin diesels where there's no actual dinosaurs and wildcard will make some poglasaurus idk
ho no when i said "rolls" i meant dodge like the souls like combat
roll roll roll roll attack and repeat
if it's the case, i sure hope panick rolling will bring punishment in pvp
anyway thats in far distant for now will be ASA and mark my words ark 2 depends how well ASA will make in $
is there a vague release date for ASA?
October
some will said end of 2024 but i say youre better whit what is on steam which is TBA
he said ASA not Ark 2
Ark>starfield
ASA is set to release in October and there have been no changes
That's the first time I have seen Wildcard admit that, interesting. Although I still feel it must surely be the most likeminded place for players, like...even if it is the minority, it still has the largest amount of players with a similar interest in 1 theme
"A restaurant has 100 customers enjoy steak
20 enjoy fish
20 enjoy chicken
20 enjoy lobster
20 enjoy pork
21 enjoy vege/vegan
'even though steak eaters (official players) are the minority'...
Seeing as they're fundamentally different games, that's a rather unfair and kind of disingenuous assessment
You have been upgraded to an
how does that confuse you, add the emojis back immediately.
official players are the minority, no one wants to play 1 or 1.5x anything. most would rather hop on a 20x and have a full endgame base built in 30 min and be straight into the pvp
By minority, they mean, you know, smallest playerbase
i don't want a video game to be a second job after i've been hurling garbage bins for 10 hours straight
Not slightly smaller than some sections but bigger than others, no, THE smallest portion
So your statement makes little sense with that in mind @tribal chasm
exactly, theres nothing fun about spending 8 hours grinding out a base then logging on the next day to find out the 30 man zerg thats been on the server for 3 years wiped you 5 seconds after you logged
It's just a malicious way to word it because, unofficial is bigger but there's 10,000 servers with different settings on each, there's no common ground. Official on the other hand has the largest commonground, it's gotta be
Not really, most unofficials don't stray too far from one another, there are outliers but they die out within days usually (like 1000x servers or some silly shit like that)
Besides, official has separate modes too, so that's a little unfair
Arkpoc, smalltribes, PvP, PvE, etc.
dude youre wasting time whit trolls, only after 8 years official became minority and trolls keep spam that, when they do just reply to them this "1st of April 2023"
thats an issue ya, but unrelated to game dev. Snail is just a shitty publisher. At least the worst of it is contained on snails clusters, though i dont doubt shit has happened elsewhere
the fps part is because the cheating in ark is usually aimbot and esp and meshing, and fps is the biggest genre where cheats like that exist
the worst is on snails clusters i thought?
ive heard of occasional shit on 1x and smalls
but thats over multiple years
there hasnt been a mass ban like the one on conquest in at least a couple years tho unless i missed something
i mean even if snail delays it just means nitrado gets money from all of snails IPs in order to regain that loan money, instead of just asa iirc
and imo asa is going to be unplayable the first month since theres no transfers
the loan is something like 4 million
its actually pretty small all things considered
ark is already a billion ish dollar ip
yes, over 8 years, but still
i doubt the loan is actually as big of a deal is imo
maybe we can look up shi hais net worth
maybe its locked up somewhere, idk
snails in china right
then its gonna be hard to find money if its invested there id think
iirc animated series is gonna be separate from the budget wc has
it's from the pockets of arks founders like jeremy and jesse
i think theyll have tbe same split of authority with snail and wc clusters
with how snail plays i doubt they will have an issue with reduced population
so everyone just avoid the snail games clusters lol
they arent
thats why i think they made asa
instead of going stra8ght to ark2
imo they couldve done ark2 first then released asa later for the people who didnt like ark2
they about to release a new game or already have release so yeh another abandonware thats just to grab quick cash for snails
but i dont think the switch port made enough money for that so they instead decided to make asa to boost revenue until ark2
and maybe ark2 is just really time consuming cause who knows
compared to rebuilding ark
how many people eben play switch
im guessing 20k but i have never seen the number before
like monthly i mean
well is more of the bashing ark players will give once they see ark 2 cause its almost nothing like ark 1
i think that bashing would be overridden by new players, or so id expect a few months ago
now i dont know if asa or ark2 will be successful with new players since everyone heard about the snail games incident
asmongolds coverage is almost infuriating since hes half just bashing normal pvp rather than the dev abuse
but now everyone re remembers ark as the "shit game" and idk if new releases will hit arks early player counts
ASA shouldn't attract 'big' streamers, they already know what Ark 1 is like
Ark 2 maybe
i hope it does since multiplayer games suck when theres not many players lol
almost certain very few know what snails have done for a long time
they know now tho
even if its only for a week and 90% "forget" and "move on"
its like league but to a much less severe extent
everyone who hasnt touched league knows its a shit game
tho then idek why people play league anymore
they know that was snails that open china borders so all servers would be unlock for the chinese and they promote cheats to bring more sales on china for ark?
ark2 apparently was gonna cut down the dino roster somewhat, @split dove was that true
i remember discussing it a while ago but i dont remember if that was an idea or news
at launch for sure
fair enough
sure
the point is that they know ark is a shit game
so they wont buy it
assuming the above happens the franchise dies or snail starts huffing loans ig
i mean, predatory loans probably dont care
not sure about that, starfield its bad but still you can read the reviews
i dunno if snail would give up wc until the devs all leave the company
i havent heard mich about starfield
I was sure I had read someone this is just 1 branch of Snail, not all of Snail Games
extract money until it hits the ground, make ark p2w, etc
that aint happening since wc was bought by snails so if snails goes under so wc too
wc said no to p2w
ya
which is good but then that was way back before this interim period between ases abandonment and tje new releases
the new releases success or lack of may change wcs ability to shut down snail, esp since snail already has a history of buying and burning games to the ground
no jeremy really screw when he start making ark 1 and was fine whit a "couple" of million in court and thats when snail steps in
i forger where i saw the vid for that info tho
gotta google it
it was the company the ceo used to be a part of iirc
it was just 40 millions in fine
actually i think it was when that game was in develepment jeremy start to make ark while working for them or whatever it was, found on a site while back he even try to recruit while leaving trendy
think was contract
i think contract
non compete clause iirc
The same thing that some company is trying to get Dark and Darker for, non-compete clause
Can't remember, but it was some company that's been doing it for years to small game companies just starting up, like Ironmace
Pretty sure Ironmace has it in the bag though, but they did get it removed from Steam, the bastards
Pretty much, yeah
I get what you mean. It’s tiresome to move through lots of grids to just tame something or get some specific resources on ATLAS. BUT I like the idea of a huge map where you have to spend some time to get to distant lands. I mean, fast travel should have a limit on what you can move through it.
Ark did pretty well with concept they have for fast travel, either have an outpost and keep set amount of resources/equipment there and use beds to go between spots. And for ASA we will still end up with teleporters. And then I am sure even with Ark 2 they will have some primitive magic that basically a teleporter.
It’s not malicious. It’s a practical separation of how people play the game. You can’t count all of official PvP against “5x unofficial” and “20x unofficial” and expect that to say anything useful. You want “who plays on PvP/PvE servers WC pays for” vs “who does not”
You’re missing cryopods. That singled handedly altered forever how travel worked
Imo fast travel (beds, teleporters, etc) and “fast travel” (maewings, shadowmanes, etc) are NOT the same, and have dramatically different consequences to map design
ASA still gonna get those, but not gonna lie I am looking forward to Ark 2 and learning a new way to move dinos.
Primitive Plus was awesome it just to bad WC scrapped any support for it to save production for Ark 2. Would of been satisfied to at least had that mode patched just enough so all the resources worked as intended.
Fast travel is good - it lets you return to and from explored areas with ease and removes the tedium of walking from A to B. The journey from A to B is done slowly and it feels rewarding to not need to endlessly repeat it…and you learn the terrain and have a positive exploration experience. “Fast travel” however is cancer - it allows you to bypass everything in your surroundings and move too fast to remember (or care) about the path you took from A to B. The map feels smaller, and you forget the details and features and experiences in between
I have to disagree. On ASE it’s too easy to move things within the map and between servers. It’s too easy to raid another server, as an example.
Like shifter said above, it’s different and there are different consequences for each of those features.
I think it’s ok to fast travel with a few things in your inventory or the cloud. But the way it is today, makes everything too easy.
Easy sure, but imo it also damages the perceived size and functional size of a map
Genesis 2 is massive and Ab is by comparison quite small. But if you only use Ab local tames on Ab, you quickly realize that it feels big because it takes TIME to go from A to B
But on genesis 2 you grab a stupid fast mount and that map feels tiny
I understand what you're saying completely, and in terms of what you're describing is issues related to PvP which are real issues that come up. I can't and wouldn't begin to say what would solve that for PvP as games like Ark are strictly PvE for me. (Edit: Unless I find a server like one I played where there were specific PvP locations more to test out yourself and it strictly monitored for PvE beside that.)
As I replied to Shifter about Primitive Plus mode on Ark 1, I wish they could of at least got it just fully functional before dropping support.
its true tho tbf there isnt any unofficial cluster that even approaches officials size
largest unofficial i can think of may have like 36 maps
official has several hundred per gamemode
excluding arkpoc
But you also have to consider the position majority of unofficial are financially maintained by an individual and not the developing/publishing company. So OBVIOUSLY official will always be bigger on a technicality just in the fact it is official.
But now when you look up streams and videos from popular streamers and youtubers majority of them either maintain their own server or play on unofficial which even if they play on their own server that would still be considered unofficial since their not on an official server.
There’s also a question of density
Popular unofficials can be packed, but the official network has dead servers that continue to increase as a game ages. Unofficials can be more flexible to meet what people want in the moment
Yeah by bigger meant there will always be more people on an official servers than unofficial, that any game.
My post was more to point out that an irrelevant comparison because it not even a level playing field when the ability to keep up low pop servers well exceeds an individual ability to do the same.
I just made the content creator point to show such cause anyone who watches personal game play most likely watches it from someone who maintains their own server not official because official is terrible for content due to it level of grind.
Agree with your creator point for sure
You are talking in general? or for ark? Because there arent more people playing official on ark
Hence why I think the teleport needs some more limitations. It could be restricted to fixed points of interest in the map for example. Also limiting what you can bring with you.
Cryos, teleports and transmitters made everything too easy. For pvp and pve.
I think teleporting shouldn’t be restricted by your bases/built teleporters
They should be at static safe points that each player unlocks, similar to fast travel in almost every game ever
Yeah, that’s what I meant. POIs with teleporters, fixed. Not allowed to build on them.
I remember before transmitters and teleporters even the island looked larger.
Pteras were fast, but they didn’t carry much weight. Because of that it didn’t unbalanced the game.
Its not the tps, its the tames
How so?
Tps are expensive to make and its hard to have more than a few for pvp. But tames move almost as fast as a player in cheat fly lol
I mean, most pve players still dont have a lot of tek because thats not how they play it
Cryos and transmitters, then teleporters, then hovercrafts, then unlimited elements + stryder 😂
Well. Post flier nerf
I don’t know any official pve player that doesn’t have everything tek
So you are saying things went downhill with extinction then
They are the vast minority of pve players
Even before the nerf, it was manageable
Pre flier nerf it was BAD. 300% speed PTs crossed the island in 2 seconds and broke the perceptive map size
Yeah 300% movement speed pt is managable
Maewings do that now, but at 100% speed lol. Between that period balance was closer to right
For unnos it’s easier to get tek
Compared to today’s standards, I’d say so
Fliers were op, but you weren’t able to do everything with them
Ab did the best job by banning fliers and keeping the grounded tames (and thus travel times) long despite the physical space being small
300% fliers on the island made it small - unless you had to walk another tame back, so I’ll give it that
But then stalkers, maewings, manas, etc just OOOFED perceptive map size by being so damn fast (AND having cryos) that maps became teeny to people despite being physically massive
You arewnt actually saying pre speed nerf fliers were less op than tps lol
I mean, 300% pteras were op, yeah. But it wasn’t possible to grind metal with them, or do some meat run with them.
We still needed to use some land/slower Dino’s
But I remember one flier was really broken
I’m not really talking about “balance” here, but the perception players have about the size of the map
The map felt small on a flier at 300% movement speed. It was balanced by it feeling HUGE when on foot or the ground, but the issue was still persistent that a player could yeet from A to B on a flier so fast that the island felt small
Me too. Because when we needed to get some meat to the babies we still needed to get a giga and run around the map with it. It felt larger because of that.
My point is we used to need other means to carry things around.
Before cryos at least
Well. Fliers did have way higher weight stats at the time too
But I do get your point
But yeah, after the nerf it became even better
I mean, if fliers were less op than tek now, its because people didnt know how to cspin lol
Neither of us are talking about “op”
Im not arguing because I like tek, but the arguement that prenerf fliers were less problematic than tek is funny
We’re talking about how the map size is altered. Tek teleporters caused a different type of challenge to map design and perception than tames did
Not sure if it’s a question of “op” or not at all
It’s certainly without a doubt true that teleporters and cryopods had impacts on how “big” a map felt. Just like 300% speed fliers and new speed gliders
I really dont see how fliers dont cause that same perception
It could the learning curve, but when I remember things back there, everything was harder to accomplish.
I would argue that that is a part of your perception of the map
The rates were lower so you likely did more trips and waited longer to do things. And ofc no mutation stacking
I cant say that my perception of the maps have changed at all, its just gotten easier to move around
There were no buffed rates on weekends, no cryos, the default rates were half of the current rates on officials.
Actually I take that back. My perception of the maps changed dramatically when I first learned that there are very few viable spots to build on each map for pvp
1/4 or 1/8 actually
If you want to see an example of what I’m talking about, try playing ab from scratch and walking to the red zone, then try moving around on a drake
You can feel a HUGE change in the perception of that map’s size because of one tame’s movement capabilities
The bases became huge. Back in 2015 an alpha base would have 100 turrets and lots of x plants. Now you have that on one teleporter alone (more than that actually).
2015 a big base had way more than 100 turrets
Mega tribes vs mega tribes? Are sure? Last time I remember checking it they doubled the default rates.
I agree with how big map size feels based on what you are able to do. But I will say Gen 2 for what it has is way to big, a map that sizes needs a bit more substantance to it or chop off 10% or so of the size, just feels like to much wasted space.
I will say Ragnarok felt like a good balance of size and purpose. If WC could focus on that balance they'd be fine
Back when they started the evo events
No, you check old videos
At least not on mega tribe officials
Gen 2 was a disapointment. They made the rockwell area look way cooler in trailers, end result looked nothing like it.
After the center bases started becoming huge
Imo Gen 2 was too “samey”. Large open stretches of identical terrain made it difficult to remember certain areas…and the tames moved so fast you ignored it anyway
I mean isn't that just progression? Each unofficial server I played on I would want a bigger and more detail base than the last not the same or smaller
true
I’m not saying everything should be slow btw - I’m just saying the map has to be designed around the transit and vice versa
You can’t have a massive map be appreciated by players if you give them tames that just zoop on over it in 2 seconds
Gotta give people a reason to be on the ground more. Have something for players to do on regular basis throughout the whole map on the ground.
Then fast flyers and such kind of become a passive tame and not a must use to travel all the time
I’ve suggested ark 2 methods to help with this issue - making air travel dangerous is a start, making it hard to interact with the ground while in the air is another, and there are others I’m sure I (or others) mentioned but forgot
The most obvious option is slowing it down. But imo I’d rather keep the speed and heavily gut the ability of fliers to transport anything but players. Unless formal fast travel is added, in which case I retract my statement
slow flying feels bad
Nerf cryos to a stationary structure, and reduce flier weight. Thats been my arguement from the beginning
I would like to see a more active sky wild life than we currently have. Not only for more caution in traveling through the air, but it would make you consider having to have air defenses at your base versus just building behemoth gate size walls and being perfectly safe from wild dinos
Not just that, it was easier to craft everything because the map had unprecedented amounts of resources. I have the impression The Center had lower resources spawn timers because metal nodes used to respawn super fast
Pve moment
PvP should also be forced out of caves
I’d nerf the skybox and lower it. And adding different Dino’s that soar at higher heights to attack anyone up there so it’s not always risk free
But that’s another topic entirely
Except you can't because of what? FLIER SPEED
Always a good option. OR add a “sky” floor similar to the depth ceiling underwater so you can add…sky mosas
They had the perfect (not perfect because it will have bugs I guess) for Ark 2: the aratai pve forces
…I mean there’s a lotta reasons everyone is stuck in caves on PvP. It’s not just maps being functionally shrunk by fast moving tames and cryopods
This way we would never be totally safe because there would be intelligent (?) pve forces trying to hunt us
People are stuck in caves because of platform saddles and fliers
caves make sense though. we were cavemen
It makes a limited number of base locations that are suitable for groups
Talk about making a map smapp
How so? People went to caves because we have teleporters and cryos
People went to caves because it's not viable to be outside of caves. It's not just a scenery change
Along those same lines, bases in caves pre cryo were absurdly broken
Imagine conan concept for Ark 2 being able to recruit NPC tribes to passively use crafting areas for you as long as you keep resources there
Yeah, of course, but also because cryos and teleporters made it possible
It was possible before
Before those you wouldn’t be able to live on a cave
Sure, if you were just a griffer
You could live in caves and have your breeding lines in caves, and they were untouchable
Medium to large tribes weren’t able to live on a cave
Yes they were
People had Ns center builds even before cryos lol
Yeah, breeding lines were possible partially. But you would still need big bases outside
Caves were more like a backup
Yes, but your main loot and breeders were unraidable
Sure, that’s true. But we still needed a big base outside
And you still do...
Now you don’t need it
No, everybody is living exclusively in caves
Have you pvped recently?
Not in a year I guess
But I don’t believe anything changed
Well, point is that any serious base these days has extensive outside defenses
Turret capping is a thing
Sure, outside defenses were always a thing. But I mean full bases in the open air
Outside defenses ≠ a fully outside base…unless you mean teleporters
In PvP areas like that will always be a problem because of the win mentality of everyone who purely plays PvP.
Just like how YouTube single handily ruined a casual fun PvP experience because everyone just watches for someone to upload a video of what the meta is in every game with PvP now.
Yeah, it's not viable, because of fliers. Not because of tps or cryos
You see your response to this looks like it contradicts right?
The argument was against people living exclusively in caves, not that they didn't live in caves at at...
Right here?
Right here what?
Gotta add the nuance on the front end
“Bases outside are non viable, nobody does it”
“Ok, so everyone needed a big open air base”
“You actually still do need that”
It LOOKS like a contradiction unless some form of nuance is included
Fob
Forward operating BASE
No nuance, it's just not a home base
And no, people generally don't build fobs in caves
Maybe add some kind of negative effect to players and dinos that are hidden away in caves for excessive amount of time where it either reduces their stats over time or something to that nature
Oxygen meter?
Like I suggested a year ago
But having fobs outside and main base inside a cave is way more unbalanced than the other way.
Now people pretty much have some teleport points outside and everything else is inside a cave (s)
Yeah, but it's not because of tps and cryos that they did that.
It's because of platform saddles and fliers
I think you are not getting my point… without cryos and teleporters, the tribes wouldn’t be able to have their main bases inside caves.
I know they go to caves because they avoid platform creatures, but without cryos and teleporters we needed to have bases on the open to keep our FFA Dinos. Do you remember the walls of brontos/paracers?
Large Dinos were kept in the open because we needed to keep them there
Large Fully grown creatures were unable to get out of the caves, so we needed to grow and keep them outside
itd be nice if they made structures able to be picked up into inventory
instead of just destroyed for half resources
make them more expensive if you want
Maybe you get a damaged version that needs materials to repair? The idea being you can’t just instantly rip down a base and build a new one
The issue I always had was getting weighted down by random spare materials whenever I deconstructed
Unofficial servers with perma pick up is so nice
i dont think this is such an op thing tho
like people already easily farm the mats for thousands of structures
It’s already possible by default. But it seems op to get everything back without any cost, hence why they’ve decided not to turn this setting on for the official servers.
idk how op that itself really is
like you can still transfer slotcaps before getting wiped through transmitter
its the same process but instead of setting up a replicator you can start building
For pvp it’s too op, for pve, not so much
Because they are wiped frequently
They can balance everything back time to time
i dont know if that matters since the tribe numbers and ability to farm is so much higher on official
like for the 10 person tribe, i can see the difference, but officials get like 30-200 ppl
maybe smalltribes this could be really broken tho
since you cant farm as much with 6 people tho apparently large groups still team so idrk
See, it’s already too easy to collect resources, why would want to be able to dismount bases without losing resources?
because its so easy to farm i think it just makes it a qol improvement
i dont think its a necessary feature to be sure
or highly helpful
Actually I don’t even have the patience to disassemble a big base to rebuild it on another place
i just think it would make peoples lives easier especially if cryos are removed
for people to just carry base with them basically
I think it’s more about pvp and spamming while being raided
Not really about being costly to the player base
I mean, I’d rather demolish my bases on the foundation level than disassembling them structure by structure
It’s more being able to do so without needing to recraft in the field is my suspicion
Unless they implement the s+ pistol on the base game
thats still an option, this doesnt matter for dismantling big bases, but its basically just keeping your rathole with you essentially
What we did was we just take key structures stuff a little more costly to make and then just demolish foundations to get rid of the rest
Even if the walls were “broken wall” and needed nearly 0 materials to fix but needed to be recrafted it would probably be fine. It just can’t be an instant on instant off
since removing cryos seems really likely imo
im fine with this but idk if that actually balances it or not
but ig people will be forced to live outside again maybe
so its not like you just need to touch a wall to break it like in caves
Yeah, it’s too much work depending on the size of the base
Im not so sure they will do that
At least not for ASA
I can see it going either way, hopefully they do remove them at least for a bit
Honestly we usually just take storage items and crafting stuff I.E. forages, work benches, etc
isnt the first couple months and experiment with their absence
Or rework Cryos to only be deployable within range of sufficient ally structures
or like, yeah rhey could still not remove them, we cant tell yet
No more pocket Giga BS
i think theres a chance tho
Sure, but it’s time consuming, it’s more enjoyable to me to just grind and craft everything back without demolishing the old base
a lot of people who comment on ark are players from before extinction who miss the old "dinosaur game" without cryos and tek everything
like on youtube at least
idk how significant those people are as a whole
The thing is, we are on the dark here
but its noticeable nonetheless
We don’t know what’s coming day one
werr most people excited that ark2 is gonna be more primitive?
Im not sure they intend to remove cryos
since that reaction might also influence the devs decisions on how exacrly asa is made
I would like that, but I’m not sure they would do that
nobody knows for sure ye
Id say they are insignificant
Pretty divisive split in the community. Some love Tek, others don't. I don't know which side has more people
Most people aren’t commenting here, or reddit or YouTube
if the devs do at all take into account what the community says then the people commenting should still be more influential imo
I don't mind Tek, do like the QoL it provides, but am open to Ark2 taking the series in a different direction than what we've seen in Ark1
and they do do balance passes, so some sort of player feedback is absorbed somehow
The problem is how we would define the community
wdym
Let’s say we have a million active Ark players
cause ik the smallest minority are people actually talking about ark anywhere
ya sure
How many of them are here?
They will more likely rely on their telemetry than discord comments
how do they measure those things tho
idk if there are hidden stats in game that can be used
Do you remember they used to publish some of the game statistics?
Im sure they have some kind of telemetry
They used to publish the most tamed Dino’s
ik other games definitely do that, i just dunno what stats they utilize for this
Most used weapons
yeah i can see that, since every tamed dino and item is stored
but how would that be enough data to change a dino
there should be more imo
but maybe there are stats im forgetting and stuff
servers probably save information like damage maybe?
so maybe percent of all damage committed, certain attacks, etc
They are probably using telemetry + people’s opinions on polls or comments
so like stats first, something seems off, peoples opinions later
Im just saying they won’t rely exclusively on people’s opinions here, or reddit etc
that could work
i dont think they do that even in isolation from those stats, since they probably will do playtesting and stuff independent of that
Im not sure how they handle it, but that’s what I would do
but i do think it should be somewhat significant
At this point, I’m not sure how they test things. Not even sure if they still test stuff
ASE is pretty much the same for 2 years
dollie gets online and asks for kit on megatribe server and balances whatever dino is in the cryo she gets
For ASA, I don’t now how they are balancing the game
They have the saves, they can check whatever they want. I remember spending some time checking the saves when they moved from the legacy servers
nothing is known ya, but maybe we can guess a little better than random
somehow anyways
what sorta data is stored
There’s a lot of info you can get just checking the bases
fair enough
take some representative sample of servers and see whats up in the save data
You can check logs and just check everything in the tribes
ya true
i mean
unofficials are modified so those wouldnt even be fair
balance can only really be done on official
and officials have hundreds of servers pee mode i think
I don’t have the numbers, but I would bet there is more people playing solo host games than on official servers
Yeah, balancing needs to focus on officials
But I mean which features community needs implemented
Like cross platform mods
They need to assess what features most people want
It’s hard to choose
i would guess thats where community feedback comes in
also devs own opinions and stuff they see trend wise in other gamed
a lot of games im waiting on are cross platform
Im not sure if cross platform is good actually 😂
