i agree that the games Snail made themselves are bad compared to ark, but Ark 2 will still be made by Wildcard, a more experienced Wildcard compared to Ark 1 by that. PvP will also likely be different from what is is now, with the new combat and movement systems for players. All snail games does for ark is publishing the game

Yes, Rust has PvE zones in a way, but you can PvP in them somewhat, it's just that every NPC there will try and gun you down if you have a weapon out for more than 5 seconds or if you hit another player with a non-weapon

There's a lot of mechanics that Rust has that Ark could benefit from, PvP-wise. The fact that pray didn't know it had that in the first place is worrying, for some reason

Id like a gamemode like the one in for honor. The map will have a set number of factions depending on the settings. New players can decide which one to join. The map is distributed is small areas that can be claimed by each faction. To gain land you have to fight at the border between your land and the land of an oposing faction. Who ever claims it can now build in it. Oposing factions cant attack a piece of land without said land being connected to a piece of land of their's, so no flying over enemy defence lines and claiming a piece of land in the middle of their territory. When there's only one faction left, the server wipes.
Each faction has a maximum number of players that it can have, and you cant switch factions once you joined one. If there are a max of 100 players on the server and 4 factions, each faction gets 25 max members. If a faction is wiped, each faction can go up to 33 members. If all factions are full, no new player can join the server, even if its not full at that moment.
This would have to be on a seperate map without op loot farming spots like the lava cave. There would be designated pve land like metal mountains or silica deposits.
This would be a different mode separate to whatever they do to pvp.

There could also be a variant to this where theres a set number of factions, but each faction has a safespot on the edge of the map that cannot be claimed. Server wipes every X ammount of time. The rest would work as the other one

I’d rather see it more like new world but except for having a town claimed by a tribe/clan from one faction it’ll be like a area where you can now build in. When people want to claim your area, they have to capture certain spots for a amount of time. Once they’ve successfully claimed the area, they can now either gift it to another tribe in their faction or keep it themselves.

Tribes will have a build limit in the area but can own multiple areas on the map, the amount of areas a faction can capture is limited though.

To be fair, I want more than just PvP and PvE; I want dedicated game modes that have ulterior motives and/or an impact on the story in some way, such as the faction idea that has been thrown around on multiple occasions

I definitely think there'll be some kind of story aspect relating to the people who want tek vs the people who don't, as it kinda makes sense thematically

An addition I would appreciate in ark 2, would be a “formation” screen as part of ordering groups and classes etc.
Right now, if you want to travel with a lot of dinosaurs you kind of have two options, the death ball, where all follow one, or the conga line, where they all follow in sequence.

Problem being, if you ever need to “all move here” or “all stop” etc, any kind of formation you tried to set up will be lost and you have to manually pick who is following who

Something like a small grid, that allowed you to assign a spot to each dinosaur would be appreciated.
For instance, you could use two stegosaurs to cover the flanks of your formation, with smaller dinosaurs between them and your pack mule bringing up the rear etc

Ordering groups help a lot, but in conjunction with a customisable formation, I would be very happy

There are limitations for PVE, put in place to prevent griefing, that make zero sense for PVP. Alternatively, there are nerfs of tames to prevent specific PVP exploits that only serve to hinder gameplay in pve.

As a long time Destiny player, I have seen every worst example of trying to balance pvp and PVE, and lately separating the sandboxes.
Ultimately, the people most inconvenienced by the back and forth are the PVE crowd.
I have a lot of respect for a dev team who is willing to tackle a problem like that, where there isn’t really a right choice, it’s quite difficult. At the end of the day, it’s an unsolvable problem in a lot of ways, with many different solutions being proposed from all over the industry.

I don’t know much about Ark 2, but I imagine improvements to the dinosaur AI is going to make balance potentially easier. Dinosaurs won’t just be simple stat sticks, there might be more to PVE than “I can tank you” or “I can stand on this rock” or “lol I spent 1 hour of grinding resources to build a trap specifically for you.”

Basically, a lot of ark gameplay is kind of like a puppet show, I’m hoping ark 2 really fleshes out a lot of those core systems like path finding, taming, combat etc

Cause I’ll be honest, Ark 1 has the worst path finding I have ever seen in a video game

And to cap off this random rant, turn circles need to be improved. There’s no reason a bipedal creature should need to cross over 14 lanes of traffic just to turn around, it doesn’t make sense

As a long time World of Warcraft casual player I do hope they add dailies and renown reputation so we can spend 2 months grinding out reputation to unlock boring features that don't make the game much better at all. I think this is the right direction for the game and Ark 2 should also have a microtransaction cash shop and in game xmog shop so I can dress my character up in funny costumes while I get ganked by try hards over and over again.
