For those that want to get a head start on preparing their mods for consoles, here are a couple of things that you can start on ahead of time.
Test your mod with a gamepad on PC:
Custom UIs should implement the virtual cursor.
See the images attached for examples of how to Enable & Disable virtual cursor from your widget blueprints
Make sure that you have a gamepad compatible option for any important keybinds
Players don't have access to set arbitrary ini configs on console clients.
Consider adding a menu for controlling your custom settings and managing the values in a savegame object or actor.

We are aware that there is an issue with mod cooks failing randomly for an issue that doesn't seem to be related to any mod contents.
Once the matching cloud cooker is posted, we expect to see an improvement, and will continue to monitor.
It's official from the corporate top-boss: creators can use all ATLAS assets within ASA mods as they see fit!
Only for use within ASA mods, of course.
On this subject I want to talk a moment about the spotlight video that just went out. As mod authors you are responsible for getting permission to use assets you don't own.
The presence of the ATLAS parrot in the spotlight mod that just went out does NOT qualify as actual permission for others, and as mod authors you should never ever assume that you have the right to use assets from another IP unless you can reference explicit permission from the IP owner that it is allowed for you to do so.
"Mods" do not qualify as Fair Use.
Wildcard CANNOT give permission to use assets that don't belong to us.
In the case of ATLAS we asked, on behalf of the community, if that is allowed as a blanket permission because of our relationship with the IP owner and because of the historical permission for ASE.
But this cannot be assumed... ever, even from a video in our spotlights, because someone could have permission for only themselves to use those assets. A license to one person does not qualify as license to all.
Copyright law is complicated, and staying on the right side of those laws is your own responsibility.
ARK DevKit Version 32.12.37.468658 has been posted to the DevKit Beta branch on the Epic Launcher
We are continuing to pursue the frequent cloud cooking errors that are affecting mod cooks. If you aren't sure if your cook is failing for a legitimate reason or not, please try a local cook and refer to the logs for errors.

This includes the SOTF Mod sources for authors to reference for making their own content
In an upcoming major version to support some new features we have made some changes to shaders.
Unfortunately we have discovered that these changes will impact some mods (Map authors may find their landscape materials draw black for example)
Fixing the problem should only require cooking your mods again with the updated cloud cooking tools.
We will provide another notice of this change as we get closer to releasing that update.
⚠️ Notice: If you have added the "Custom Cosmetics" category to any of your mods you will want to remove that category!
This category will be treated in a special manner by the game and any normal mods using this category will fail to function in game. This category is exclusively for use with the custom cosmetics system that will be releasing in the next major game update.
Additionally, any mods in the "Total Conversion" category will be loaded in game in the same manner as Maps (Which may not be suitable for a number of the mods currently listed under this category)

Please also be aware. The following two CurseForge categories should not be used unless the mod is using one of these systems.
"Custom Cosmetics" : Any mods listed as custom cosmetics will only load the data for custom cosmetics support. these will not be usable as regular mods on Curseforge and will not list in the SinglePlayer menu. Installed Custom Cosmetics will be loaded automatically on singleplayer and for servers that they are whitelisted for.
"Total Conversion" : Mods with the Total Conversion category will now load in the same manner as mods with the "Maps" category, they will also warn the player if they try to launch a total conversion mod while other mods are enabled.

In the next major version update, we'll be making a significant change to the female character as we've improved pipeline for human characters by removing redundant assets, simplifying the process of making character animations and assets for both modders, content creators, and the team internally. From a player perspective, when this patch rolls out you'll notice your female character having changed its proportions, but we've gone ahead and implemented new functionality on the Scissors allowing you to change your character's appearance at any time, including bone modifications.
For creators, we also have a blender file you can use to help convert your assets to use the new character, which you can read more about here

ARK: Bob's Tall Tales & Scorched Earth Modding Update
We're going to be updating the DevKit as soon as possible with all the latest content from the map, as well as the new ARK: Bob's Tall Tales DLC. In the past we would have restricted access to the DLC content for some months via the DevKit, however we'll be including it as soon as possible with this release. Creators are free to mod the content/gameplay systems that derive from ARK: Bob's Tall Tales as long as they continue to maintain the built-in ownership ruleset associated with the new additions. We'll be monitoring mods for how they use the content/systems and any that have modified the permission-ruleset will be removed.

<@&1167982808074043413> Hello everyone!
With the update today some mods may find that if they were using the HTTP GET/POST functions on the gamestate, that they will have stopped sending those requests from the game.
We have not taken away the ability to make GET & POST calls, but we have implemented a new blueprint networking interface that implements some security measures.
This new implementation offers some benefits for everyone:
For Mod Authors:
For Players & Server Admins, you will be able to know at a glance what mods are making network calls (in the game logs) and be able to identify any suspicious activity.
A section will be added to the Devkit documentation on how to use the new interface and it will require updating your mods against a new cloud cooker in order to use it.
A new cloud cooker and modkit are already in progress and I expect it to be available within the next day or two.
There is one notable exception for the new network support, custom cosmetic mods will not be able to make network calls at all anymore even if they implement the new interface.

<@&1167982808074043413> For mods that add functionality intended only for admins that check bIsAdmin on the player controller: It is important to understand that trusting the value of this bool on the client-side is inherently not going to secure your functionality. To secure functionality you also need to make sure to validate that bIsAdmin is true on the server instance before running your code(Or replicating privileged data to a client). Checking bIsAdmin on the clientside is only effective as a preliminary convenience check for cosmetic purposes under the assumption that a client exe is not modified and running without battleeye.

Hello, Everyone! While working on Aberration and during our work on integrating 5.4 engine changes some attempts at housekeeping were made to reduce unused material complexity and as a result the material hierarchy for many armor materials changed. This introduced several issues and while we resolved most of them this still unfortunately had an undesired impact on many Mod Armor & Cosmetic sets that will cause them to look broken until they have been recooked against the new cloud cooker. We tested against several cases and found that the mods we checked needed only to be recooked against the updated cloud cooker and did not require any changes. The new cloud cooker and Mod Kit for Aberration content should be available at launch or very soon after. This does not affect ALL mods or even all cosmetic mods, it may be best to wait until the update has been released and check to see what mods you have that might have been affected before submitting the mod for recooking.
We apologize for the inconvenience. We will continue to try and avoid these types of situations as best we can and and will work to improve internally in areas where we find these issues occur.

<@&1167982808074043413> Hello, I just want to make a notice for mod authors really quick.
The Trait System was approved for use by mods without having to enforce BTT ownership.
Mods can modify and make the Trait system accessible without BTT ownership, and can create and provide their own versions of the Trait system items and structures. (Gene Scanner, Gene Storage/Infuser)
The only requirement is that the content assets (models/materials/etc) of these items may not be used in mods without enforcement of BTT ownership, Mods must provide their own assets instead.
The existing items cannot be made available without verifying BTT ownership.

Going forward we will only be enabling dynamic download for non-premium custom cosmetics that are less than 700 MB in size. This will only affect consoles and PC users will continue to dynamically download whitelisted cosmetics.
This change will be retroactively applied to already whitelisted cosmetics, and any that are over 700 MB will be disabled from dynamic download on consoles.
Cosmetics that are not dynamically downloaded can still be used and players can manually install them from the mod browser in order to see them in game.

<@&1167982808074043413> With the upcoming engine update to the game, we are making a pretty big change to reduce the memory overhead, but this change has the potential to impact some mods in a significant way.
Several classes will have a number of properties that we have identified to be constants-in-practice and will be moving them to a system called sparse data which will make them read-only at runtime and not instance based.
We have put together a form with all of the properties for these classes that are being moved. We want to identify any that might need mitigation strategies to reduce the impact to mods.
Please take a look at your mods, at any properties that you didn't create yourself in blueprints derived from these classes, mark any that you are changing values on at runtime. This is only relevant to runtime changes, you will still be able to modify the values in your class defaults if they are properties exposed to defaults.
(You can edit your responses after submitting, if you need to)
https://ark.gg/UpdateModSurvey
Please read the following carefully before filling out this form.
With the engine update to 5.5 there are a few classes that we are moving a number of properties to a system that will result in them no longer being writable at runtime. This is a necessary change in order to move a lot of data into "Sparse Data" and drastically reduce memory imp...
<@&1167982808074043413> Regarding the previously announced changes for Sparse Data properties.
After reviewing the feedback from the community and finding that most of these properties were being used by at least one project or another, some by many projects, we have opted to make changes to the UE Sparse Data system.
These properties will remain in Sparse Data, but they will no longer be read-only (unless it is a property we very specifically want to be read-only)
What this means is that in blueprint you will still be able to write new values to these properties at runtime; however, they will be static. This means that the value written to one instance will be shared by all instances of the same class automatically.
Existing Set nodes on these properties should migrate automatically.
We understand there may still be cases where you really need some of the properties to be per-instance and I will try to address those cases over time.
Further we've annotated these nodes and you will be able to identify them in blueprint with the -Class Global- as shown below:

<@&1167982808074043413> Regarding Custom Cosmetics for Dinos:
Cosmetics that swap the mesh of one creature for another existing creature (the collection of creatures we ship with the game and DLCs) will not be approved on the official whitelist.
We encourage and will approve Dino cosmetic skins with unique (new to the game) meshes that aren't ours. We just don't want to approve (for Official Whitelist) Custom Cosmetics that swap a Dino's mesh for another existing ARK Dino's mesh.
<@&1167982808074043413> The ARK DevKit Beta has been updated to 474.1.194.708062
This is a beta devkit for the 5.5 engine update, and mods cooked with this devkit will not load with the current live game client.
This is to give mod authors an opportunity to start resolving and raising any issues with their mods in advance of the game update.
Please also remember that cooks for mods against the current live game cloud cooker will be paused on May 20th, and that no new mods or updates will occur until the 5.5 update is live.

‼️Mod Creators‼️
Just a reminder there's 7 hours left (<t:1747724400:R>) to publish updates or new mods before the 5.5 patch drops. After that, publishing will be paused until the patch is live.
A new UE 5.5 devkit is also available—check the Discord for details!

DevKit issues will continue to be investigated and addressed, but this is the devkit version intended for the 5.5 release.
The matching cloud cooker might not be available right at release of the update though, so this build will go to Main only after it's confirmed that the matching cloud cooker will be ready as well.
Additionally, in regard to the sparse data properties we spoke about before, we have added a system of supporting instance overrides. Details on that system can be found here: https://devkit.studiowildcard.com/systems-tools/sparse-data-instance-overrides
Right now there are only a few properties supported, but we will be adding more over time.

<@&1167982808074043413> With the upcoming update there was a change to cropods that will likely impact some mod authors.
Cryopods had a change where the Dino Class has been moved from the CustomDataClasses array in the CID to CustomDataSoftClasses.
So if you are doing any custom cryopod logic that is expecting the dino class to be in the old array you will want to update your mods to instead read it from CustomDataSoftClasses
<@&1167982808074043413> The Cloud cooker has been updated to 66.14.221.711945
And uploads for mod cooks should be open again now.
Mod Authors won't be able to test or publish these builds until after the update is released, but anyone with fixes they need to get ready should be able to start queuing up their mods for cooking ahead of time now.
An issue was identified with Sparse Data properties where if you set the value of these properties from the construction script or from an editor utility, any values changes for sparse data properties on that class and any derived classes will not be retained on save.
I am working to find a solution for that. For now if you are having any issues with sparse data properties reverting values after restarting the editor, make sure to check the construction script and the construction scripts of any parent classes to see if you are setting any sparse data property values in them.
Remove those, save the blueprint in question and then restart your editor.

<@&1167982808074043413> There was an issue identified for mods being submit to cook with the new update. Resulting in cooks being rejected due to an "SDK mismatch". This was an error in the mod kit build that broke one our rules about SDK matching. In this instance the issue is not compatibility breaking but it is tripping an error in the cloud cooking system.
It's being addressed right now, and should be resolved service side in the next couple of hours.
<@&1167982808074043413> The SDK mismatch issue has been resolved and you should be able to submit your mods again now.
<@&1167982808074043413> Hello Mod Authors. We just wanted to give a quick policy update and make it clear that content and assets that were specifically added in ASE: Aquatica have not been permitted for use in ASA mods and we aren't able to allow this.
Any mods found to be using those assets/content will most likely be taken down.
Content and assets from ASE that existed prior to Aquatica are still allowed for use.
<@&1167982808074043413> I have received some requests about content and systems from the lost colony DLC and some clarifications about BTT content that has changed context since the original permissions were declared.
The documentation site has been updated with these updates in the DLC content permissions for mods
https://devkit.studiowildcard.com/getting-started/additional-information
While the functionality of the gene scanner where it pertains to traits is available to be used by mods without requiring BTT ownership as long as you are using your own custom assets, as was previously declared, the gene scanner did go through some changes that added embryo extraction to its functionality. The embryo extraction functionality requires checking for BTT ownership to use.
The skill tree system is okay for mods to use without requiring Lost Colony DLC/Bundle ownership, however mod authors must make their own UIs and Skills for this.
The Content files of the Lost Colony skill trees and the skills themselves that are included with it cannot be used without also owning the Lost Colony DLC/Bundle.
<@&1167982808074043413> The ARK DevKit Beta has been updated to 73.7.236.753833
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR MOD AUTHORS:
If your mod was accessing the GeneTrait properties for DisplayName or Description at runtime, you most likely started experiencing crashes when 73.13 went live. The data type for these properties was changed from FString to FText. You should be able to review any areas in your mod files where you were accessing them and update for that change. If it looks like the editor handled the conversion automatically, do not forget to resave the file and submit for recook once the Cloud Cooker has been updated.
Once the cloud cooker has been updated, and you have recooked your mod, it is recommended that you test them using the Public_Test_Realm steam beta branch, which has the initial 73.13 build. After the game update went live ant the crashes were identified the live ops team implemented temporary measures to try and protect against the most frequent crash cases, but these did not fix the mod itself and like broke functionality in them (These changes are temporary) and if you attempt to test your fixes on the live game you may get a false positive impression depending on if your mod was one of those that were being protected against.
Those temporary protections will be removed from the live game, to re-enable any functionality that it broke, when we feel confident most of the affected mods have had a chance to handle the change and get their mods recooked.

<@&1167982808074043413> If you have recently tried to install the devkit for the first time and found that the Epic launcher shows it as "Coming soon", we have a second option for downloading the devkit until this issue is resolved.
In your steam library if you enable "Tools" and search for "ARK: Survival Ascended Devkit" You will be able to install from there. It is highly recommended that you create a new steam library at a drive root when you install it.
It is likely that this will only be a temporary download option until the issues with accessing the devkit through the epic launcher are resolved, so if/when that does happen make a note to yourselves to backup your mod files in the event you ever uninstall the devkit from steam. (If you are not familiar with version control software like Git, SVN, or Perforce - it's highly recommended to learn one.)
This is only relevant to people who are trying to install the DevKit for the first time. Users who already previously installed the devkit from the Epic launcher should still be able to install from their Epic library.

<@&1167982808074043413> We've reviewed our rulesets for when ownership checks are required when using content from official paid DLC.
We identified that the way some of these rules were written felt confusing and they weren't always clear on what content they applied to. So we've rewritten that information to make it more clear.

<@&1167982808074043413> The ARK DevKit Main & Beta have been updated to 78.4.260.778913
This update is not actually to the devkit content or code. This is the same build as 78.4.257.778913.
This update allows for the optional install of map asset files that are not part of the base game package in the actual game builds. This reduces the devkit size some, however we are still investigating other options to reduce the size of the devkit further.
<@&1167982808074043413> If you were using a function called "SaveStringToFile" your mods might be crashing whenever it is called lately. This function was part of a 3rd party library called Sentry and some point it stopped existing. It is important to check what the functions you are calling are part of, as functions/properties/classes from 3rd party libraries can change or be removed without warning in the event that they are ever updated in the live game.

This build has a ~350GB size reduction achieved via resolution reductions on larger textures. So in editor (and only in editor) you may see core game textures look less detailed than the live game. (This will not impact textures you have added yourself)
Please note that if there are any textures in the base game that you absolutely need to be at full resolution that it is advised that you back those up locally somewhere before updating and just replace the files after the update.
We are working on making the original files available for when people need them.
