does it count as scraping if we just have an AI agent look at it for us 🤔
Good question
i think they just said "any automated methods"
but where's the line
what if i automatically send $30 to advion every month to update 20 items mpb prices
just pay some guy 1$ per year to scrape it but have him tell you its manual
easy fall guy
I will give you $4 to setup an endpoint to fetch mpb prices and not disclose to me how you did it
i have the complete dataset manually copied if you're interested
as i said before
for keh, b&h, and mpb
I'll do it for free
das where its ap
What currency lol
Roubles
probably cents actually
cents
blame their api not me
659.1937366353636 cents
Diabolical
I want to make that "gear competency test" on sharply lol
Basics:
- A few questions about exposure triangle
- few questions about other dictionary terms (composition, etc.)
...
Medium:
- SLR vs DSLR vs Mirrorless
- Equivalent focal lengths
...
Expert: - Pixel density (lens resolution and light gathering)
- Test knowledge of specific camera specs (What is D7200 megapixel count roughly, options 45, 12, 24, 30)
...
EXCELLENT CHOICE
Wow people actually read server suggestions
@tepid nest i think i have to add a mount for minolta lenses but i couldnt figure out what it was
SR mount for the older stuff and A for the newer
are these mounts shared by other brands at all? or just minolta?
I think Sony inherited the A mount for a bit when they first took over Minolta
I don't think they are shared other than that
yeah Sony ate their SLR division
it just morphed into the Alpha stuff
the new mounts just deployed
X-600 as well I think
refresh and A and SR will be available
cool thanks
I think I'm going to standardize the Rokkor name as just Rokkor since Minolta ads show it that way and not ROKKOR
first SLR on sharply! https://www.sharplyphoto.com/gear/minolta-sr-t-102
Sharply is the newest and most comprehensive photography gear database and review platform featuring expert reviews, real specs, and side-by-side comparisons in a modern, minimalist interface.
ok this is fine
damn i want that 85mm 1.7
SRT 102 might be the first camera i try to do a gear photo of since there's 0 shot we're finding that
I just bought one but canceled it right after
I thought it would go well with the 58mm 1.4 I already have
adapting to Z
with a cheap ass adapter I found on amazon for $15
it's just manual focus but still fun
the 85 I got had some hazing so I figured I'd just wait and find a pristine model in the future
my photoshop recent files
yep
Minolta shares M with Leitz, but as far as I know nothing notable has the SR mount except for Minolta cameras
someone got it right, usually people just refer to it as the MD mount but that's a generation marker like you said in a later message
I didn't even realize they made a couple native M mount lenses
SR is short for Single Reflex I think
MC is short for Meter Coupling
MD is short for Minimum Diaphragm
yup and for more fun trivia the letters like PF are just the number of elements and groups inside
you can tell just about all you need to know from the naming of the lenses
the best glass is Rokkor NL at 9 groups (N) and 12 elements (L)
but the most you'd find without spending much is SG at 7 groups 7 elements
or HH is what they built their wider primes on
very identifiable, lots of cultish information on Minolta's legacy
a good thing to have for this would be a Generation stat/marker
what does this mean
cause the difference of SR MC and MD can be broken down more to R RX AR MC1 MC2 MC3 MD1 MD2 MD3 nMD MDX
SR is the mount
SR MC and MD are the three major generations
and then there's like 12 subgenerations that change the hardware and coatings
cause you can get 3 lenses under the same name but 3 different generations
unless you make 3 different lenses
they don't have different names?
they made the same lens but didnt change name to like Mark 3 or some shit is what you're saying?
no cause when it's marked as MC it could be 3 different production years/sub-generations of the same lens, usually that means different shell too
let me show you
ok i see
I wish there was a more elegant way to handle lens variations
this is (from left to right)
MC 50 1.4
MD 50 1.4
MD 50 1.4
MD 50 1.4
but you don't know the MC is actually an MC-X (marked in yellow on the front)
and all the MDs are different years starting from MD1 to MD3 (nMD)
slight differences in that character-wise the MD1 is similar to MCX while the MD3 variant looks different and is built worse
I think this is a big thing for film lenses in general so as we get further into those it's gonna be interesting.
same issue exists for every brand but to lesser degrees (whether that's because of documentation or general reception)
like the Canon SSC stuff that you need to know the serial numbers of to know which ones cost $50 and which cost $400
you have a 58? @tepid nest
yeah
sick
I've only had it a few weeks at this point
I do want to buy more Minolta lenses but being film lenses they didn't prioritize mfd very much and that's beginning to bother me lol
my Minolta 35-70's mfd at 35mm is like 85cm
cannot do jack with it
I kinda randomly bought it on a whim because it was $50 and I started shooting film on Minolta so I have a little soft spot for em
I've got a bunch of rolls still to develop I shot on my X-7
I want to own an XM one day
That's cool looking
Yeah this is a tough one. I really want to maintain one page per name possible
How different are they? Any significant changes
the jump from MC to MD is compatibility and coating
Minimum Diaphragm means cameras know what the minimum aperture is for autometering purposes
though the bigger jumps happen within generation, MD2 to MD3 for example
you can have multiple pages that have the same name but different generation markers or production years if you want, but that means multiple 55 1.7's
I put the real basic stuff in the notes here for example https://www.sharplyphoto.com/gear/minolta-mc-rokkor-pf-58mm-f1-4
Sharply is the newest and most comprehensive photography gear database and review platform featuring expert reviews, real specs, and side-by-side comparisons in a modern, minimalist interface.
some lenses have variance all the way from original Rokkor to new MD which is 8 generations big
some lenses just have 2-3 generations
I wonder if you can find a way to adapt the video table formatting type stuff somehow
just depends on implementation
you could just have different photos for different generations, they don't vary enough to have spec changes, not most of them
if it matters just put it in notes
Since im already adding variations feature between actual items, maybe could add “nominal” variations to at are just custom entry with notes
Maybe overkill though
Annoying that photos change
I think I mentioned it before but I would like to be able to add more photos in the item page and be able to cycle through them. I think that's how color variations should be handled. Like some of the Nikon silver variants instead of a separate listing. Just have a row where it shows available colors and then let us upload an additional photo of that color
gear page card gets the default/first photo then any additional photos the user can cycle through once in the items page
Is the SE optically the same?
Yup
Same thing just rehoused for color
But what if there’s a lens that has functional variations 🙄
I think the SE is fine as a separate listing
but something like https://www.sharplyphoto.com/gear/nikon-nikkor-z-dx-16-50mm-f-3-5-6-3-vr-silver and https://www.sharplyphoto.com/gear/nikon-nikkor-z-dx-16-50mm-f-3-5-6-3-vr should be a combined listing
Sharply is the newest and most comprehensive photography gear database and review platform featuring expert reviews, real specs, and side-by-side comparisons in a modern, minimalist interface.
Same thing though
SE is at least a different design and not just a colorway though
the SE is just a variant of the lens designation though
True
cause the MC3 and MC2 Minolta lenses are also different designs
fuck true
but not different enough to warrant spec changes
How do you even look for these Minolta variations if they’re names the same
design, I think serial numbers too
Like 58mm MC 1 lenses have a fairly flat focus ring and the MC II has a hilly one
yes, early MC and late MC
no that's MC1 55 1.7 and MC3 58 1.2
oh 1.2
but I believe some MC3 lenses share the MD1 aesthetic
or some lenses marked as MD1 aren't truly MD
for example the 21mm MD1 which is actually an MC3 lens
too much information to know about this stuff

you say that
but I bet all these vintage lens dorks would love a modern up to date central repository
as it is it seems scattered throughout 800 different websites and facebook
this would be the first comprehensive repository of this information and product photos
the next best repository would be a literal book they call the Minolta Bible that's been being compiled for the last 70 years
I think it's something that should be considered and maybe slowly worked on in the background but it would definitely be a big undertaking
you don't have to put in the work, you just need to lay the foundations
I’m gonna do “variationOf” column for differences that are design or greater (design and any functionality changes) and “colorOf” for same design different color
As far as the Minolta stuff I think my original nominalVariations idea is best
Maybe I’ll just create a whole new table to handle these relationships that wya it’s easy to define what kind of relationship it is
Just annoying to me how unnecessarily convoluted photography gear is
absolutely, it can get rather obnoxious
the actual page formatting doesn't really matter a ton as long as we can put the data in somewhere and it can be adapted to a better format when it comes time
skimming the surface of how fast companies built and folded in the film era
Chikoyo Super Rokkor, Canon Serenar
The other question is how do we do the gear pages. Taking the 58mm for example since it would encompass multiple variations do we just do a generic lens page? Instead of MC Rokkor-PF 58mm f/1.4 or another one for the MD Rokkor 58mm do we just do a Rokkor 58mm f/1.4.
luckily most film era lenses are actually very well documented https://minolta.su/list-of-reviews-lensqaworks/
nah this actually would be way harder in backend than the other things
I'd pick one generation to go for, usually that's MC2 cause most lenses have an MC2 variant if they began in MC, but not all lenses have MD, and MD lenses obviously don't have MC variants
and, overall if things actually have different names i do want them to have different pages, except for color only variations
or the most popular one, like the 55 1.7 would be the silver ring MC
basically the same lens, the Auto Rokkor PF 55 1.8 and the MC Rokkor PF 55 1.7
but one's flatter and one's hillier
ugh having separate page for every film lens variation is gonna be interesting. alrighty
only if the name is different
isn't that what we were just talking about, how minolta lenses have multiple variations but no name change
can we just make our own camera company and name things correctly from the start
they technically don't have different names in datasheet
colloquailly they're known by different names and the generation marker makes them different even to Minolta
it's like what Apple did
calling every new iPad the new iPad
like how the Gen 5 iPad is just "the iPad"
lmao
another thing that's a historic pain in the ass
trying to buy a specific ipad or apple tv model
I wish the mount selector in the bulk gear page was like the Brand or Type so I could mass set the mount instead of individually
true true
I'm about to dump in all the Hassy H bodies
or at least defaults or something
Will finish the X body specs this weekend then start on these H body specs
will need to find a way to handle digital/film backs at some point too :x
I guess we're just gonna have a lot of notes is all
for analog does that not fit any of these?
export const analogTypesEnum = pgEnum("analog_types_enum", [
"single-lens-reflex-slr",
"rangefinder",
"twin-lens-reflex-tlr",
"point-and-shoot",
"large-format",
"instant-film",
"disposable",
"toy",
"stereo",
"panoramic",
"folding",
"box",
"pinhole",
"press",
]);```
some bodies only work with certain backs or back sizes etc
I created this beautiful bug report just for you even though I didn't want to over such a dumb tiny thing https://github.com/Flohhhhh/sharply/issues/190
wait so when you open it it shows the mount? but it still said it wasn't added?
are we sure this doesn't just always happen regardless of bulk creation
if I hit contribute and look at the mount it's already there
cause I did it during bulk create but under construction still says it's missing
that is quite weird
https://www.sharplyphoto.com/admin/gear
fixed and made the mount apply to all rows
still on beta rn
Real specs, real reviews, real fast. Sharply is the newest and most comprehensive photography gear database and review platform featuring expert reviews, real specs, and side-by-side comparisons in a modern, minimalist interface.
wait can you access that
interesting vercel login page
Don’t think so but I’ll check. Just shoveled snow gonna shower real quick
nvm just use live
with all the gear images we uploaded i'm still only at 2% usage of the free tier of the storage
pretty sick
Nice
supabase?
time to fork sharply and make some horrible design choices
holy crap t3 reference
sharply was created with create-t3-app 🔥
I should really try Affinity instead of GIMP
Why do I torture myself
oh boy
the OM1 and OM1 Mark II have the same model numbers
that's fun
even though OM5 and OM5 Mark II are IM030 and IM037
om1ii was a firmware update confirmed
i dont think model number is necessary anyway
Just exclude or put it on only one, not a big deal
Model numbers are internal only as a safety check for duplicates
Sorry if I said this already I can’t remember
@errant fox the "contribute" and "under construction" buttons do the same thing, I think you should remove one or the other
true whoops
which one do you like better
actually jk im keeping contribute
ya
@errant fox can we also get 20fps as a video framerate
Cuz canon put that as the fucking framerate for fhd video in Rebel T1i

IDK LMFAO
the amount of things i've had to add specifically for canon
At this point make an option to enter numbers
@errant fox what the fuck do I do for the image sizes for this fucktard
And all the other vr lenses
1000 on long edge
same thing
It's gonna scale badly
Oh long edge
I think you should change the guidelines on the site to long edge
For safety
does it not
bro why are we taking photos of screens in 2026
I don't have discord open and I'm lazy to open it
less work than taking out phone and going to discord to take a photo
Screen snipping literally takes more time than phone photo kekl
My phone discord is like
Always on
windows + shift + s bro
then paste
Naur why do that when I could be doing more pics
!!!!!
Don't you hate it when canon has a proper slanted picture for their kit 24-50
BUT NOT FOR 100-300/2.8

Added an equivalent focal length display for fixed lenses
ugliest lens i've ever seen @jagged epoch
btw, message to everyone, i want to emphasize the importance of finding dates for release in general, or at least finding the release year for items
release date is used a lot for sorting, and without it things looks incomplete or don't appear in a logical order
You should check the canon section
none of their telephotos have shots from above i guess?
Not that I can find
I've checked the canon websites from like every single fucking country
https://sharplyphoto.com/gear/canon-rf24-105mm-f2-8-l-is-usm-z
this image looks pretty weird
like very compressed or something
and a reasonable white border
Sir this is an official canon image
send me original if u still have it
Also for some reason this one was extremely high res from the canon site
maybe gimp is just booty

I didn't do anything vro
I import, rotate, crop, scale
Canonusa pics already have no background
Speaking of which, canonusa site is slow today
here
this is the original URL when you inspect the image
https://s7d1.scene7.com/is/image/canon/6347C002_RF24_105mm_2?fmt=webp-alpha&wid=800
notice: fmt=webp-alpha%wid=800
if you change to fmt=png-alpha and wid=1000 you get a much nicer image
Hmm
images on web are usually fetched through api for scaling down and compressing
you acn sometimes adjust the parameters yourself
also how did you get a white border when it's already transparent background 😂
INTERESTING
Idk dawg it came like this 💀
You do it and see if you get the same
look
I think there's some minor differences between the scaling algorithms of gimp and photoshop but neither should make white borders
Gimme a sec I'll do both and compare

done
grazie
just follow that recording
to get the images
i did like 2400 width
fmt=png-alpha
you can also do fmt=png without the -alpha to get it with a white background
2400?
yeah
https://s7d1.scene7.com/is/image/canon/5054C002_rf600mm-f4-l-is-usm_primary?fmt=png&wid=2400
I guess it depends on the lens
some already have excessive px on wid=1600
yeah i guess the taller ones need more
i will take that into consideration for future lenses
if you see any lens that needs redoing lmk
what are the quality options on export with gimp?
you can up from 75 a bit
how much
alr
rf 100-500 is with 85%, check if you like it
yeah i like
its fine
maybe the really popular ones
slight white border too
acceptable just see if there's a way to improve
when it's not over the whole thing I can't really do much
except like hand remove pixels
you selected the whole thing and contracted 1px?
it is though you just cant see it because its also white
but is this how it looked after removing 1 px?
im not using AI shit
i jsut ctrl click on the layer and it selects the alpha
then select > modify > contract > 1px
surely gimp can do this
I shrinked already smh
nah bro I shrinked 2px and it's the same
that's compression
lol gimp
better than fuckass affinity running at 2fps
@errant fox for rf 600 and 800mm f11 do you want collapsed or extended
Sounds like a you problem it works great for me
are you by any chance on mac
And I don’t have to slam my dick in a car door every time I try to do something
I’ve used it on both my MacBook and windows 11 desktop
anyways: gimp
I’ll have fun redoing all these images later I guess
I mean i'll redo them if you want
you should not have to
redoing all rf rn
how tf do you scale the image down to 1000 pixels
it doesn't seem to apply shrink when you don't lol
image > scale image
just click exactly what i did in the images bro
yeah I haven't been doing layer masks prior
💀
I'll redo all the ones I did then I'll go to bed
Hah
oh and @errant fox
Why would you want it extended
that's how you shoot it
but idk for thumbnails the collapsed might be better
not my choice tho so
Well yeah you can do all sorts of shit when you aren’t trying to make it fast
it also uses fresnel glass
f11 is fine for the shit people do with 600 and 800mm anyway
birding and stuff
fixed aperture funny tho
Says someone who’s never tried to shoot early morning or late evening
i think we should add a property for whether the lens only covers a smaller than full frame image circle
but idk what to name it
or should it be
imageCircle = full, cropped
or imageCircleCropped = true, false
imageCircle = 67, gfx, full, super35, mft, c
its not really relevant though on system like fuji though, because every lens is for apsc right?
ok so matching with sensor format
make sense i gues
or, reuse the sensor format things
for clarity
ok i do
fixed aperture is never good
dude I timed myself doing an image and it was under 40s 😭
I'd be mad if I had to shoot f8 or f4 all day no matter what the lens is for
I know people here have had primes break and fixed at 2.8 which is hilarious
using mirror lenses must be real fun
maybe take 60s and make them without white border
or nikon people using e lenses on old bodies that don't support it
stuck on wide open
sir this is with shrink and stuff already
I NEED TO GET A JOB
I had a day where I was so done with the day before I forgot how my camera worked and shot everything wide open 1/8000
underexposed the ocean wideopen, that's talent
1/8000 🥀
i'm ending my shift today at rf85mm f1.2 DS
with the exclusion of 600 and 800 f11, everything prior has been redone
TOMORROW 🔥 🔥 🔥
I should figure out how to assign macros for things like crop to content
OH IS THERE
i literally just downloaded gimp 10 minutes ago
I come from illustrator bro don't judge me 💀
"auto shrink" on the left
it's greyed out until you draw a rough crop around it
The more I learn about how square does things the less faith I have in the people of this discord
I have overridden gimp shortcuts and assigned "QWERTY" as the keys for every step required, IN ORDER

that’s…something
You can barely do it correctly with a mouse
shhhhhhh
my redos are fine
I'm going to bed, tomorrow will be a very productive day
just watch
@proven glade @tepid nest added
this good
allows us to show an equiavlent focal length for any lens that's "DX" or uses anything besides full frame
For the funny could you add a sum of all edits
On the leaderboard
Wait 3 days for that
isnt this what it is already
oh
is this intended to represent lenses that are for fullframe but cover medium format?
ah shit
i did not consider medium format
medium format is a negative multiplier though right?
technically speaking, yes
and technically speaking, medium format has like 5 different image circles
maybe i dont understand your question

this is what i have currnetly, can alwys add
if you have Canon APS-C why not have APS-C
first one
this is for cameras too
I see
I'd also implement Foveon and fullsize Medium Format which is 0.64x (GFX is medium format crop, 0.79x)
and Foveon is 1.7x, for Sigma, if that matters
and fullsize medium format would be the Hassy 100c system which is 53x40
crop medium format would be the Hassy 50c and GFX system which are 44x33
XCD platform/X system
yeah they don't make it very easy to remember
I know the 100c and 50c have different sensor sizes even in H
then there's 6x7 film which is 56x70 and 6x9 which is 56x84 which are the notable ones
and 645 is 56x42 but the digital 645Z is 44x33
What a shit show
very fun
not the slightest bit confusing
I'd add these sizes @errant fox
then just forget about IQ4 being 1mm bigger than fullsize MF cause they're the weird ones
645 56 × 42 70.0 43.27/70.0≈0.62 ~0.62× shorter
6×6 56 × 56 79.2 43.27/79.2≈0.55 ~0.55× shorter
6×7 56 × 70 89.6 43.27/89.6≈0.48 ~0.48× shorter
6×9 56 × 84 101.6 43.27/101.6≈0.43 ~0.43× shorter
MF 44 × 33 55.0 43.27/55.0≈0.79 ~0.79× shorter
MF 53 × 40 66.0 43.27/66.0≈0.66 ~0.66× shorter
compared to FFEQ
6x7 ect. is just analog no? @proven glade
yes, it's analog, but different lens mounts have different lenses and image circles
if you haven't already separated the image circle from the mount and the mount's common image size, you should
cause like we've seen, minolta lenses are for 135 film SLR but cover crop MF
well i have the mount and the image circle size as separate fields
this is what you mean right
yes
6x7 and 6x9 aren't different films, it's just 120 stretched to bigger or smaller widths
technically 6x9 is 107 film compatible
but that's a whole different thing that's no longer thought about
might have to use some sort of "other" or "large format other" here, i think image circle size is not worth getting that specific about
remember we can still have all of these as film formats
you can summarize medium format as crop and full, that's fine too
well... still crop and full
cool ill add those for now
what od name them though
Medium Format Crop and Medium Format Full is fine?
damn, we're going to have to go back and check all the medium format cameras
because i'm renaming "Medium Format"
which have done more of? lol
pretty simple, only a few cameras are full medium format
implemenet that table and I'll update them
just gotta build and deploy
one sec
takes me 7 fucking minutes to build this shit
project too big
i merged it in, hopefully it builds succesfully
give it like 5 more mins then refresh and the option should appear
I don’t think anything added at the moment besides the H6D/5D are full mf
I can’t remember how many of those I even added yet
lol the older ccd sensors are an odd size too
H5D-50 36.7 x 49.1mm CCD Sensor
what do we call that
Annoying sounds correct
It’s still MF crop technically
I think the ratio will just not be accurate but 🤷♂️
idk why im so far back but windows shift s my beloved
cmd + shift + 4 >>>
😭
Yall have fun with mf
im goated
i love pc
my gpu was 250$ and does everything i want in 1440p
Ok all rf lenses have their images done
@errant fox give more slots
Oh weird don’t know it was limited
What camera has more than 2 though lmao
Black magic added btw
some cameras have internal storage, like the Sigma BF and the H6D-100c
not sure if you want to include that in storage slots or have that be a different datapoint
Probably separate I guess
also add chroma subsampling to video mode manager
and LongGOP/ALL-I brush
alongside LPCM/AAC brush
also in video fps, the Panasonic system has this thing called Slow&Quick that allows you to record at 1,2,5,10,15,25,30,50,60,100,120,150,180 fps at 1080p but the exception of no MF at 150fps and APS-C only at 180fps
I see we only go down to 20fps
in 24Hz and 59.94Hz system frequency it also allows you to shoot 24 and 48fps
@errant fox what to put here if it supports B
what the fuck
just spent half an hour outlining every video mode
putting this here
Rip sorry
lol
I would've wanted to be more specific actually cause 5.8K is 17:9 and only achieveable with ProRes while 5.9K is 16:9 and only achieveable in H265 MOV
Sheesh
codecs codecs codecs
5.9 is also LCPM audio while 5.8 is AAC
can I submit? or is this a hard limit of something @errant fox
It’s a hard limit
I’m out for the day
Maybe remove one line or whatever is needed to make it pass and I can manually add the rest
I’ll up the limit a little bit as this seems like not really an edge case
@proven glade
But will have to do that tomorrow
just make a number box atp lmao
Clocking out of unpaid labor
@errant fox how are items in a user's collection arranged right now?
Cameras grouped together by release date newest to oldest then lenses sorted by focal length
Longest except bulb, we will specify bulb separately
Same here, canon has a "bulb timer" that lets you set exposures up to 100 hours (it's technically not bulb)
All canons have 30s max so I've been doing that
Yup

Laptop
Shame
my laptop is currently being repaired by anjit from buysellrepairs after i spilled a fucking chobani 30g protein yogurt drink on it
😔

bro recycling
Samsungs isn't phones? Okay, okay
what
not sure, over 20 atleast by now
im member 8 and given theres like 30 in this chat id say theres 30 or more
Why tho?
I mean why did you blocked?
when i migrated auth providers i accidentally set a default value for member_number on the user table to 0
i thought that this would get overridden by the auto-incrementing identifier in the database, but apparently it does not
so every user was getting member_number 0 which is impossible since it has to be unique, so adding a user row failed
Oof
@errant fox coiuld you possibly rename the leica q1 to Leica Q [Typ 116] when you review my suggestion thanks
with brackets?
yes]
is that really how it is on their site?
they dont actually have it on their website anymore
but thats how they list their [typ] cameras on their website i think
circular brackets mb
summicron sl 28 f2
(ill just bash a few out)
MEV1
dlux8
M typ 262
M typ 246
leica m monochrom (NOT typ 246)
i copy pasted on a leica body cap from the 262 because the photo didnt have a cap on it exposing a really wonky shutter
no worries
leica ME typ 220
m10 and m10 monochrom
m11, m11 monochrom
cant find the m8, m8.2 or m9 in decent quality so rip
we actually prefer seeing shutter
oh
theres none with exposed sensors anyway
its fine this time though don't worry about it
leica are picky as fuck
@astral trail
they only ever post photos with body caps on
if all the others have caps then its good consistency
yeah i suppose
Time to buy them and take your own photos
All of them, "for consistency"
anyone know 85 cameras not on the site yet?
Does this include items without specs
yes
true
I'll speedrun nikon when I finish all canon specs and images
also analog cameras are available now
Also, could you make a sort option for "spec completion" in the gear browser
isn't that just https://www.sharplyphoto.com/lists/under-construction
Real specs, real reviews, real fast. Sharply is the newest and most comprehensive photography gear database and review platform featuring expert reviews, real specs, and side-by-side comparisons in a modern, minimalist interface.
ah hm
"Under construction" only shows incomplete
i don't really want to be public facing
Copy paste gear browser into admin
maybe just sort by release date though and do higher first, because that's the order they will appear on the site to public
Mhm
hmm
idk why I sent that in sharply
nikon people just did all the cameras they have personally 😭
cool graphics
They never gonna be me fr
I did every canon digital slr and mirrorless in existence 🔥 🔥 🔥
scanned 6 APs and it recommended I half my channel width for 5GHz
free labor aint for me
didn't know that even did anything
i did mostly lenses lol
so there is no Leica Q1?
I think it's just called Q
both 200-400s and 28-75 f2.8 g2
Or Typ whatever
thats like calling the first world war World War 1 before knowing there was going to be World War 2
pessimistic ass naming
so is this correct now https://www.sharplyphoto.com/gear/leica-q-type-116
Sharply is the newest and most comprehensive photography gear database and review platform featuring expert reviews, real specs, and side-by-side comparisons in a modern, minimalist interface.
and are there other types?
yes, Typ is like model number in Leica's world
the only thing actually referred to by it's Typ is the Typ240
which is the M
We shit on fuji and sony naming but meanwhile leica
Leica can have a shit naming convention, cause the Leica S is the Typ007
and that's coola s fuck
none that we already have
we basically have the typs, though theres variants of the m11 and stuff like the M11P, M11D, etc
Paid skins
but theyre mostly just changes on the outside (display, etc)
big changes though
not having a display is a new camera altogether
M11D with no screen
look at the XPro3 and XPro2
Xpro3 weird ass screen
XPro3 cracked screen
could just be a footnotes thing
waist level shooting 🔥
Xpro4 with no screen when
XPro3 is the perfect screen cause it's so waist-level focus and puts you in the zone
They lowk need to drop xpro4 already
i guess
I wouldn't mind XPro4 having the XPro3 screen but just overhead-shooting viable
so waist-level and overhead, the rest idc
@astral trail my objectives for tonight is to make sure people have internet and the printer works
also I still don't know why I'm talking about this in Sharply
LOOK AT THE LOOOGSSS

the logs don't have shit
I need to sit down and actually figure out networking
i did the M and Q cameras, just not the SL lens yet
ill do maybe a few tn
marco you doing photos?
he sent a bunch above, i'm adding them
champ
theres a dark grey versuon
but thats the only one i could find thats decent resolution
m8 and m9 i couldnt find fuck all aby
this looks so goofy
yeah

all these images are from leica site?
theyre from a mix of camera sites (b&h, etc) bc all the pages for the cameras before m11 dont exist on the website
i couldnt find any leica store ones
so theres literally not gonna be images for the older cameras
cool!
a lot of the the time the ones you can find on other sites will be the manufacturer ones
but you need to confirm that
by comparing lighting etc.
ah
dpreview takes all of their own photos afaik
read this when you have time
Capturing Images
Gear images for thumbnails should be front facing images captured at 50mm, deep apertures like f/8 or f/9, and with no lens on the camera.
Sensor will be digitally enhanced or replace in final result if needed.
Finding Images
To find images start by looking for a manufacturer press release. They often include images intended for news and press use available for download.
It is absolutely essential that you do not ever grab images from sites other than manufacturers sites. Images from sites like DP Review or other review sites are strictly off limits.
For Cameras
Make sure to use the front facing image with no lens (sensor showing). If one is not available, choose the best available front-facing image. Prefer w body cap, then w/ lens if needed.
For Lenses
Prefer a horizontal left facing (front element facing left, mount facing right) image with front element visible. If one is not available, look for a vertiaclly aligned image with front element visible that can be rotated to face left.
Processing Images
- Import into Photoshop
- Remove background if there is one, make sure edges are clean, no white or black left. Do this before sizing the image down.
- Select > Subject
- Select > Modify > Contract > 1px (check "apply effect at image bounds")
- Make sure to remove any holes for straps or in small details
- If it's a lens and not facing left (front element toward left) rotate into that orientation
- Crop tightly on all edges (aspect ratio does not matter)
- If image is larger than 1000px wide, do Image > Image Size > Select "Pixels" for Width > Type 1000px for pixel value leaving resolution at 72 and resampling automatic
- Export as .webp (File > Save As or Save a Copy > Format = webp)
- Select 75% quality, do not include any metadata or extras
Uploading Images
After processing the image properly and saving it as a webp, admins can visit the gear item's page and click "manage image" button on right side to upload the image
Gear list is looking real nice, if you scroll here there's very few items without images for a while

oh floh, what do I do if the image is severely low res
like 300px long edge
I've just been gimp scaling to 1000px, it looks ok in thumbnail
B&H uses manufacturers photos for a lot of stuff and they often have higher resolution versions too.
I'm talking about 1990s lenses
if it's modern item and 300px then just skip and find another or we take ourselves
if it's from 1990 then almost 0% chance its a press asset
so we just take ourselves
ok, note to redo all the old canon lenses
I have the canon museum one as placeholders
so old canon lenses rn have 300px canon meusuem photos?
anything from 1929 or earlier is automatically public domain
all canon museum
why would you do this when i said not to use canon meuseum lol
just avoid it entrely, there's a note on the bottom that images can't be reused for any purposes
canon europe keeps a surprisingly large database of 2000s stuff
hmm ok
I will leave the ones I can't find empty then
Good thing bro rushed through as many as possible
good luck actually buying those items to take photos of in the future tho
it's fine
rather have nothing than illegal
can you try to list each one that has these images
sure i guess
i just did a bunch that had low res images from 90s
22-55💀
most manufacturers provide lens diagrams right?
canon camera museum has one for everything on the site im pretty sure
canon meuseum is off limits
y
all copyrighted
fuk
there's a not that images are not to be reused in any way
wait so then how tf do we get diagrams without stealing
we just search for sources that let us use them?
probably cant
unless its on the product page maybe it would be ok
idk
yeah lets just avoid

or we can design them ourselves based on the information 💀
cooked
I know Hassy gives diagrams and mtf charts in the spec sheets for most of their newer lenses. Wish they all did that
