canon 1200 5.6
3rd place rahhhhh
What browser is this lmao
After some research i've officially come to the conclusion that I'm going to move forward using Nikon press release images on the site, with proper credits etc. (editorial use only)
There is some risk of a takedown request, but that's not the end of the world
and unlikely if we're reasonable about how theyre used
If anyone can help me learn more about images from other brands too that would be cool
we adding photos now?
dslr section has 5 dslr's
once d300 arrives ima upload it
i can take product photos for the ones i have yea
it's just a forward facing shot right?
good reason to buy all the gear
Safari lel
Safari is quite good if you can get over the stupid tab design choices
Chrome on iOS is still just ~~Safari ~~ WebKit underneath
I believe that's going to change at some point because the EU but pretty sure it's still that way
not that Chromium/Blink isn't already a fork of WebKit. It's complicated.
Me when I lie
Depends, the angle is probably easier for everyone to replicate but as long as they're all the same floh said it doesn't matter if it's not identical between brands
Someone should loan every camera in existence and do product shots so we can get 100% consistency
but then what camera will take the product images
but the culurs and resolution
ok fine get a second d850
if you can afford to rent every cam ever you can afford a few tb of space
Idk ask floh
a 4tb drive is sub 100$
yes
the photos have to be downscaled so they load quickly anyway, instagram quality is fine lmao
let's use d2h🔥 🔥 🔥
Just don’t worry about photos yet, lighting is the hardest thing to get consistent
Just submitted like 7 lenses
good job
I'm going from top down in the list
wtf do I put for this
@errant fox special consult lol
I'm putting 27 for now and we can edit later
Another thing, for number fields it's really hard to enter something like "1.04" cuz it keeps autocorrecting to 1
Can we also have a macro use case
Is it a variable aperture lens?
For what field?
I had this but changed to Product/Food
Yes
Screen resolution
Can’t you put multiple? So it’s 22-27?
I'm more so confused whether to put 22-27 or 22-29
Idk just pick randomly, never seen that
very cool
partner with the discord server for initial user base
I'm sure someone will make an announcement, we still need to get lenses actually onto the website for people to help fill out
We're still missing alot of EF lenses, I'm almost done those, then we have to deal with RF FD and any other mounts that we are yet to finish
I think do the modern mounts first where most people will look
Like, we can put off FD for later
Also, could we have the "cipa rated stabilisation stops" grayed out if the user selects "no stabilization"
Same for stab switch
would be awesome
Nikon 1
yes i am
And back to work
Just did like 10 more ef lenses
@errant fox since I have a shit ton of time, could I have admin so I can start adding in rf lenses, amongst other things?
Ef is nearing completion btw
Another note for admins, we need an EF-M mount option
we'll finish entire efm lineup in like, 15 minutes
I'm going in order and there's a random efm rn
8 lenses 🔥
ok I take a break
If you're gonna continue I stopped at ef-m 32mm
Near the bottom
Just go up from there
18-55 3.5-5.6, 22 2.0, 11-22 4-5.6, 55-200 4.5-6.3, 15-45 3.5-6.3, 28 3.5 macro, 18-150 3.5-6.3, 32 1.4
the entire efm lineup 🔥
I did 100-400ii for you already bbg
fire
I already did it
Also like no way you've caught up to me
Guess I'm adding more when I'm done with work
no we just bored of ef rn
There’s a bazillion Nikon lenses to add
There’s not an option for it?
Is that a different mount though or is it still just EF
Because EF-S is not a mount for example
Or RF-S
completely different mount
it's canon's early mirrorless system, before the R system
It would be funny if it was the same mount just different flange
some sigma mirrorlrss has a dslr mount and the mount is just like 4cm away from the sensor with nothing in between
@narrow bloom @jagged epoch ef-m mount option added
Great
fire
how are cameras and lenses going to be separated again? they're still just mixed in and weird
I'd be happy with a simple filter at the top
just 'body' or 'lens'
Then apsc, ff, etc and 'zoom' or 'prime'
feel like it doesn't need to be as complex as a lot of sites make it since its already broken down to brand
You mean on /gear?
Qol thing if we're doing filters, it's really nice on the user experience if the filters update realtime as you click them, instead of having to click apply
I’m still not sure what the purpose of that page even is
Might just combine the search page and that page into one
Like 90% of the time when I’m looking at a list of gear I’m going to the Nikon site to see the mirrorless lenses or cameras
So yeah adding like a multi step filter for brand then type would be nice
For fast access to that
@errant fox how are we on using brands' own product pics btw?
Only floh can add images anyway
Doing more EF and EF-M lenses rn
Which one of you did like 20 ef lenses but didn't put dates in smh
aint no way bruh
Name starts with a lex, ends in tard
lex lutard
I haven't done any work on the lenses lol I just added them
Prolly Shawn
if i didnt put it in i probably couldnt find it
no way i'd intentionally leave out dates for every single lens i put in
Note for dates: if day is unavailable do not put 00 as day
This should be fine as long as precision is set to month?
Or does it not work
It’s possible it’s automatically submitted as 00 when month precision is selected?
I just checked my submissions (which I put 00 in as day for all cuz hard to find data) and it all deleted 💀
I'll fix em all later
It just completely removes the date
Could you also make it change to month precision if 00 is entered for day?
Yeah
@jagged epoch fixed
finally, and it's a bit wider than the sigma 18-50
although more expensive
quite a bit more expensive in fact
- VR
Oh 💀
More than the Tamron 17-70mm on E mount then
Guys guys this ain't the place
😇
Real specs, real reviews, real fast. Sharply is the newest and most comprehensive photography gear database and review platform featuring expert reviews, real specs, and side-by-side comparisons in a modern, minimalist interface.
Example of how we handle an announcement
Looks great
punctuation doesn't work when you include headers into the preview text (Everyone. Today) (Vision. Nikon)
how are you fetching mpb prices?
not, just people inputting what they observe
99% of the time the worst case scenario is our price is slighly higher than what's on MPB
since used gear almost always slowly reduces in price over time
and the worst case scenario is not that bad, usually people will just get a pleasant surprise that the price is slightly lower than what we said
it would be very rare for the gap to be so large that a user misses out on a good purchase because we said the price was way higher than it is and they stopped considering it
i will just remove the header from the displayed description
clicking on the dark theme button removes the scroll bar, changing the page layout, there's also no indication of hovering (intentional?)
light mode has a indication though
prose class gives a funny color
yeah this is something that's related to shadcn ui (might even go more deeply to radix ui functionality), something i'm not able to invest time in at the moment, very small issue
I'm also pretty sure this is not that uncommon across the web for popovers
just easier to notice when testing
i may be wrong though
there's also no indication of hovering (intentional?)
related to a styling issue in dark mode across app, will fix eventually
some changes going in:
- fixed various issues
- date input adjusted to make more sense and prevent issues
- added news posts to gear pages (when the post is related to the gear)
- added related gear items to the end of news post
Real specs, real reviews, real fast. Independent reviews, real specs, and side-by-side comparisons.
Real specs x2
In the footer
Also when do you plan to start with the beginners guide stuff?
Will it just be like markdown docs
not sure, need to plan out the content first
we have a CMS
btw, if anyone has suggestions or wants to help with structuring a "beginner guide" page (should cover basics of settings and also link to some gear recommendations) feel free to suggest things
something similar to jordans lens chart would be cool
yeah hoping to have those as a recommended lenses list or osmething
Could also make price visible there since you can sort by it?
👍
i think something is bugged on the leaderboard 💀
i wouldnt be suprised if hes done that many tbh
i dont think it's even possible we have that many fields to edit
we have <400 gear items lol
and 75% are still blank
It counts individual fields, also I've done a shit ton
Like every lens is ~30 fields alr
so u did 150 lenses?
oh i can catch up to lexi.
@jagged epoch i just realized, how are you finding the pages for gear that doesn't have mounts etc.?
just searching for it?
omfg god lbless you
Wdym?
I've only ever done canon lenses or cameras
and one singular nikon lens
yeah but how do you get to them
Canon usa if it's still in production, otherwise canon museum and Wikipedia for more specific dates
I still have to fix the dates
no on the site
I'm not sure I understand
like to get to the page where you can click "suggest edit"
it just shows up in the gear cards
like if i asked you to edit the canon r5c
then once you click it unless I'm also confused
Then click contribute
maybe im the confused one
Gear - Brand - find the gear card - click - click contribute
Yea
i thought it didnt show things there that didnt already have mount and focal length set
If someone already did it it would be click on suggest edit
Nope, everything's there
It just doesn't show any specs or anything it just gives you that contribute section
cool ok
Otherwise I wouldn't be able to do anything
yeah
goat lens
indeed
What if you made a separate "under construction" section
been meaning to fill it out but wife has been sick
ooooh i seee
when you click z mount
a lot of them go away
because the mount is not added
yes will
Cool
currently working on lots of boring backend shit
good little boy
That's not a lot
Ok
Also some of them are afp I hope you changed those
💀
Bro we're gonna get so confused with 18-55 if you didn't afp
Theres afs one stupid
Did you separate them
i did not add any afp lenses
Peyton caught slacking
Good boy
Krill yourself
I already know without opening it that zlushiie sent something stupid
Who let your ass in here
I been here bruh
created an under construction page where you can see and access a list of items that need contributions
was just gonna ask for that
aw alr
its deploying rn
hell yeah
Probably missed this. Only an admin thing to add products? Or am I missing something? I go to look at this everytime I'm bored at work then get distracted
@errant fox the new date system is amazing, bravo
spent hours on that lol
all approved
so i double checked the logic and it turns out square is just that cracked
cant find anywhere where it could be inflating the data
about 120 gear edits with 30-40 fields for each
bro will be holding that #1 spot for a while
Must be unemployed
whoops
no shit sherlock
Well I know nothing about you so why would I know that

Ladies and gentlemen
All Canon R cameras have been completed
well submitted anyway idk wait for someone to approve
@errant fox when you're free could you add all the rf lenses the same way you added the z lenses?
I'm getting tired of staring at different versions of 18-55
Damn zve10 creators
he is child
yo why does canon do this on their site
focal length attached to mount
so fucking dumb
should we follow or?
i feel we should
even though its super aids
but i dont want people thinking its a mistake
okay, mpb does it so we're doing it
but literally everyone else doesn't lmao
AND WHY DO THEY RANDOMLY ADD "LENS"
canon is so whack man
@jagged epoch added all RF lenses

oh god
i never even finished the ef stuff lol
i just kept adding a space between the mounth and the focal length because it looks stupid
so all the hundreds of ef lenses i already did follow that path
EF lenses are like that 💀
they changed it for RF
why i have no idea
i say for consistency sakes we just make them all the same
the more i think about it people are not going to be searching lenses like that
for now i'm going to prefer matching how it is on the site just to see if its possible
it wont effect searching
not rf-s yet
BECAUSE IT'S THE RF-S3.9mm F3.5 STM DUAL FISHEYE
and then theres's one that's just Dual
all 5 rfs lenses done
i followed what you did floh, guess we can figure it out later
i mean i never even noticed on mpb it was like that
so unless it becomes a major confusino for people its better to just be accurate
Unemployed
Hell yeah
@errant fox @minor bough for rf lenses do we go with af or mf magnification/mfd
I'm putting af for now
Guys
ok every rf prime lens from 1200mm to 50 1.8 is done
You really are unemployed
All in one singular free period 🔥 🔥 🔥
Bro
I could've done more if my friend didn't distract me for 10min
Alright all rf prime lenses have been submitted
Good thing I rounded all of them then
@jagged epoch who do you know that's using a 85mm prime for video 😂
me when i film on 100mm
@jagged epoch all your changes were approved
Me when I use 70-200 for handheld video
Me when no ibis
@errant fox maybe add a field which shows what account made the edit when editors are approving them?
not too useful now but might be useful down the line if we need to blacklist accounts etc
will do, had this but accidentally removed it
hell yeah
Oh and fyi all rf lenses are done
I haven't checked but if rfs 14-30 hasn't been added yet can someone add it and do it
@jagged epoch Added

no space between rf-s14?
#1420462464121831517 message
oh lmao thats stupid
looks a bit lopsided
i just changed it
https://www.sharplyphoto.com/reviews/nikon-z6ii-review
here's an example of the format of sharply reviews as of now
oh it's nice and short
i was yapping
ill put my current version in my portfolio and write a new one thats similar to that
what do you have that's not included
still working on this
there may be other relevant things to add
but we don't need everything that other sites include, because we already have specs accessible elsewhere
as in gear?
no like in the structure of the review
https://docs.google.com/document/d/15McdJmSah5LGbYBavkqIcYcQo9Bw4JhaK65KtUl6kwM/edit?usp=sharing nowhere near done but here
Camera Review Outline 1. Introduction The 1D X Mark II is a robust camera built for fast action and sports, and although it may be an older camera, it still holds its position as a great camera body for many photographers. Include photo of the camera itself Brief overview of the camera model...
the "My Experience" section is also free text, so can be as long as needed
yeah like specs + price and availabilty are already available on the site
true
still looking
for like "Portraits", "Sports", "Landscape" these can be just sections under "My Experience" as needed
Build quality comments as well
yeah i'm not seeing anything that I think should be "required" for every review, but again people can feel free to include sections for specific uses, build quality, comparison to other cameras etc.
specs should not be included though, since we already have a well maintained specs chart
maybe i could make a way to "import" or "reference" specs from the main page
that would be nice yes
because it feels a bit weird to write a review and not give any info on it and be like "you can look over there for the specs if you want"
i mean
reviews typically do not include specs just for the purpose of listing them
that's a trend unique to photography
but yeah will find a good middle ground
true
we could do like a "key specs" thing?
yeah, maybe like a very short list of the most important specs, and then leave everything else on the actual spec sheet?
yeah
same for every camera and lens though? or do we want people to choose which specs to highlight
hmm
consistency would be nice, but also it could be something to highlight the specs that it excels at
When 1dx2 review is done I'll write r10 review
guys this doesn't exist
it was on the canon musuem website
The EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 III is the most affordable version of Canon's general-purpose standard zoom for APS-C format DSLRs, covering an effective focal range of 28.8-88mm.
Good for most shooting situations. The aspheric lens element produces images that are distortion corrected, ensuring consistent image quality over the frame. Combined with...
yes it does
Here, you can find out about Canon's EF Lenses > EF-S Lens > EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 III.
That's not the IS tho
@jagged epoch @minor bough
I renamed it
https://www.sharplyphoto.com/gear/canon-ef-s18-55mm-f-3-5-5-6-iii
Sharply is the newest and most comprehensive photography gear database and review platform featuring expert reviews, real specs, and side-by-side comparisons in a modern, minimalist interface.
Cool, I'll do it when I get home if no one has done it
working on reworking some gear edit stuff
Gear Edit Window UI/UX Updates
I want to redesign the gear edit window, there are a few key UX disadvantages and I want to add some features to help with speed.
Issues
- No way to see which fields are unfilled easily
- Ideas for this include a sidebar with tree view, highlighting unfilled fields, etc.
- No way to edit a specific spec from the gear page without opening the full editor, have to click edit then find it
- A filter/search for specs within the fields could help with this but a last resort, better to find another way like inline edits or auto focusing a field
- When finding specs on the web, they’re in a different order from the edit form.
- One really out-there idea I had was a “command line” style way to input like [spec name] [new value]. Kinda complex though, and needs a place to live that makes sense. Maybe could fit along with other changes. Need to have validation. Something like the discord search input when using filters like from: [user name to search] [content]. Would have to use aliases for finding specs (already need aliases for other things)
UI Ideas
Maybe could do like a full page modal/sheet instead of a small one. Could include sidebars on either side for different scopes and uses
preview of edit changes WIP
Ts gonna destroy my workflow
Unless the sidebar isnt affected by tab-key selection?
Then that's fire
Note: can you make cipa rated stab grayed if no stab is selected
yes it will be skipped
Nice work Floh
the refinement is
Another thing, can we get a proper box that says you have a pending edit submission? Rn if I click edit on smth I alr sent in, it just subtly changes the url
can u explain more
So rn (last I checked), if I try to edit a piece of gear that I've already previously submitted an edit to (which has not been approved), it does not show a clear indicator of it
It just subtly adds "pending" somewhere in the url
It's not a big thing but useful for ppl who do bulk edits so they can see what they've alr done
If forgetful like me
yeah actually i have no idea where that behavior even came from
you can see this though right?
Forgot to mention, it's only to pieces that don't have information yet
oooh
But yes I see that message for other ones
danke
I think with the contribute tab it's not rlly a problem anymore
But worth it for future snoopers maybe
All of those fixes + the new edit window are all live
@errant fox
my fucken screenshot skills
uh basically it says camera type on the lens
all ef 18-55s done
erm ahkshully efs
I'm going to violate you
fire
@jagged epoch
please avoid source = chat gpt
for amazon links everything after this is not needed
also for Canon 14mm f/2 @narrow bloom
is that how you did this so fast by using chat gpt lol square
so is all of your information slightly wrong? because when shawn also did the same item as you he found different data and his is correct and yours isnt
this is how amazon links should look
not .co.uk, not .au, and no parameters in the URL
i wll add some smart features to fix this but keep in mind for now
??????
I've never used chatgpt??
For the items that I did do amazon I just copied the link from url
No all my info is from either canon museum or canonusa spec sheets
idk you guys both somehow got everything slitghly off for the canon 14mm 2.8L II USM
i already approved, but mpb price, release dates were both wrong i think, etc.
didnt look too hard
not everything, the specs are obviuosly pretty hard to mess up
mostly metadata stuff
just double check that one i guess if possible
Sure
I admit to not fully checking whether a few of the kit zooms were internal focus or not, I'll check on those when I have time
it's not a bad thing to leave things blank 👍
id rather have less accurate data than more wrong data
@errant fox could we get it so that if prime lens is selected, internal zoom is grayed out?
Another thing important to a lot of lenses in the catalogue is that they're discontinued, so we can't get a current msrp
A discontinued button that overrides the current msrp would be nice
I did more than you
yeah no shit sherlock
im doing 200 f2 rn
just approved everything
there's a 200 1.8 on mpb rn
Wait I did that alr
I did like every lens that hasn't been done on the canon list alr
I didn't put in amazon
@errant fox question, how do you avoid adding duplicate items when you add new items?
Does sharply autocheck?
floh product images when
we're 1 lens away
Do it
nikon and sony ppl not locked the fuck in
Not all ef has been added I think lol
the fuck
I did a few nikon cams
@minor bough ur black
Nikon spec sheet is disgusting
They need to make smth like Canon Museum vro
It's hard to find specs on old things
they have one but they only include new stuff
like i think after a point they just remove it kek
ok im doing last ef lens currently on here
bruh we're not even done with those?
No lel
i think i can list all ef cams off the top of my head
You'd forget some
Rebels 💀
t1i, t2i, t3i, t4i, t5i, t6i, t7i, t8i
not sure which ones are like
non-i
ik t5 and t7 exist
1d, 1d2, 1d3, 1d4, 1ds, 1ds2, 1ds3, 1dx, 1dx2, 1dx3, 5d, 5d2, 5d3, 5d4, 6d, 6d2, 7d, 7d2, 10d, 20d, 20da, 30d, 40d, 50d, 60d, 60da, 70d, 80d, 90d, sl1, sl2, sl3, t1i, t2i, t3i, t4i t5i, t6i, t7i, t8i, t5, t7
ok go add them
i cant add bruh
Skill issue
im in the middle of exams give me a break bro
after the 7th ill add the rest
ok lmao
i think because if some logic with merging changes on the same item, im not that mad about it
would rather over credit than under
yes we have some automated checks
very fuzzy search logic will match any similar name and require a confirmation that it's different
will work on it soon
so that we can add?
uhhh, probably not
While lexi has exams I could add thingamajigs
requires photoshopping out the background and stuff
If I had admin ofc
ill give u rn but im redoing roles later and will prob just erase everyone
Cool cool
then re-add
please just be careful, don't do any like AI CSV lists or anything
bulk add form exists, but prefer single adding when possible
and ask here about naming if not sure
we're heavy preferring exactly as it appears on manufacturer website
Alr
I have enough time to do everything manually anyway
@errant fox for the canon rebel series, what region are we using for the naming?
Kk
do you keep backups
also maybe use webp to load images faster, if you can implement some auto converter
put it on the kanban board so you dont forget
????
20da is astro-modified 20d
nothing to do with japan only
same with 60da, Ra
ok i add
May aswell
Alr
ok every canon ef body excluding cinema line has been added
Get to work @narrow bloom
Oh m bodies too
We have point in time recovery
Going to make hard backups as well
Which ones are slow?
None specifically, just faster is always better.
Could say that running some video game on your $4000 machine is good performance, but it's always great to make it better lol
A fuckload of ef lenses added
lol
smh
Does anyone have
~14mm, 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 70mm, 85mm, 105mm, 135mm, 200mm, 400mm
all covered?
doesn't need to be primes, just want to make an actually useful focal length comparison tool
i've only got 17, 24, 35, 50, 70, 100-400 covered
and my 24-70 is gone rn so only 17, 24, 35, then straight to 100-400
i guess i just should get a 35mm and 50mm and then i would have it all
or i can just make it with my 40 instead
could just crop too
https://wispdevon.github.io/focal-length/index.html dev has this btw
yeah but there's no accuracy to these types at all
i want to just show the same subject captured at different popular focal lengths
ideally without moving camrea
ah
these fake displays are useless basically
it all depends what FL the original image was shot at
like 50 would not actually be this tight most likely
because it's actually 50mm + whatever FL the original is (sorta)
this is assumign the math is even accurate
yeah
i guess you're meant to compare the blue line to orange, by setting the blue to whatever you think the original image was shot at
but just guesses
i have all of these
except 14
i have 15 though
that works
would you be down to find a decent landscape type scene and shoot all of those focal legnths
i gotta form a real plan for this first, but could great i think
square is unemployed
"haltin is stupid" ahh statement
my area is not the greatest but yeah itd be possible
ill see what i can find while you figure out whats needed
i mean it can be something else too
a car, idk typical subjects
we should have multiple options
so whatever is easy
will just take my car somewhere then and get that done first
so just same location of camea but going up fl range?
Yeah, but idea is to not move the camera.
So try to make sure composition is at least acceptable at both 15mm and 400 at same place
Might be impossible. Maybe just do like 15-200 or 15-135 if needed. Can be different for each one
ill do all ranges gor funsies
Like 200 or 400 could be a detail shot of mirror
Just don’t move the camera at all, put on tripod then just zoom and change lenses
ill try get the sensor in one position as best as conveniently possible
ofc will be harder due to the 400 being 7lbs
but ill try mark it out
It’s not that serious for this
of course yeah lenses arent entirely accurate to the mm anyway
just will try and keep it as close as possible to the same
this is just english nitpicking but this is not a proper use of comma
Should be
The body feels very nice in the hands; it feels sturdy and durable.
2 separate but related thoughts
dont think its yapping about AF too much, its pretty short
just sentence structure is a little choppy and repetitive
could use longer and more varied
(...if you're asking me about what would be required for sharply, otherwise do whatever you want)
https://docs.google.com/document/d/15McdJmSah5LGbYBavkqIcYcQo9Bw4JhaK65KtUl6kwM/edit?usp=sharing does it still feel a bit choppy?
Portfolio Version: 1. Introduction The 1D X Mark II is a robust camera built for fast action and sports, and although it may be an older camera, it still holds its position as a great camera body for many photographers. Include photo of the camera itself Brief overview of the camera model Th...
much better
ah ok
flagship sports body. It is a sports and action focused camera body,
this is repeating the same idea
sure gimme a bit
oh @errant fox i think you're on my "portfolio version", click "sharply version" on the left
ok yeah still a bit choppy
better though
like this is 2 sentences
Battery life is also amazing, supplying enough power for thousands of shots on a single charge. I’ve very rarely used more than one battery in a single day, but I always bring my second one just in case.
could just be
With enough power for thousands of photos on a single charge I rarely ever need to use more than one battery on a day of shooting.
This:
The autofocus system is the best on a DSLR that I’ve ever used. Single point and Zone AF are snappy and accurate, given you have lenses with fast AF motors. I am comfortable using the face detect AF mode on the camera.
Could be:
The autofocus system features snappy and accurate single point and Zone AF modes as well as a comfortable performance in face detect AF mode which overall results in one of the best AF performances of a DSLR I have experienced.
stuff like that
that last one is kinda weird, but hopefully you get the idea
again this is just my preference basically lol
im pretty nerdy about english tho
Thanks for the guidelines, as I'm going to be writing R10 review today
pet peeve but the text design on the front page looks a bit odd, maybe make it bold instead?
it is a bit jarring
wym by "text design"
and which would you want to be bold?
the title of the page "were bringing photography into the future"
the formatting is off
wait is this mobile?
nah pc
home page?
ok yeah, that will be changed
I am happy to report that every canon EF, EF-M and RF lens has been added
Excluding cinema lenses
why such big spacers with small text
how tf did jordan write such a long review
I get 600 character capped
@errant fox could you also delete the teleconverters as per your request, I can't
Idfk how
You have to add it yourself and then it gets approved
@crude stream fuck you
ok i do later im studying
mf what
do i add as a note or what
found it
i think?
try and find out ig
its not the right thingy
why 600 character limit smh
my review 2237 characters
loser
die
I added limit after that lmao
@narrow bloom there are user reviews and official reviews
Anyone can leave user review up to 600 characters
What is official
Floh review
In the future we could have Editor Review
Reviews...by editors
Of things that they own
By people chosen to be writers
Or hopefully paid one day
so we could for instance have someone here write a review, we peer edit it and just straight up upload it
No editing needed hopefully
Reminds me of that youtuber who let like 12000 people edit his essay simultaneously

What is hosting all this
how are these articles written
AI 💀
need to redo them later
before real launch gotta go through the articles and redo them
just trying to get some stuff on the page and test features
(don't share things outside this chat yet)
Ah alr
Racism
redo alt text for images too right
If needed I guess
can we make a comparison tools that does everything
like ISO perf, specs, DR chart, all in one
Yes that’s the idea
But we don’t have ISO performance or DR lol
@jagged epoch we need to be putting "NIKKOR" in the lens names
I didn't add these
o

Ive barely done any nikon
Like 2 lenses and a few bodies I think
I sneeps tmrw ill come back and so some things after I do military
Nikon lens names 🥀
there's good content here about a more accessible MTF testing method https://www.dyxum.com/dforum/diy-lens-mtf-testing_topic103701.html
Interesting
Almost 20 years after release, the DX 35mm f/1.8G remains one of the best budget lens options for Nikon shooters. Offering an equivalent focal length of ~50mm when used on APS-C bodies like the D3200 or D5300 along with a wide f/1.8 minimum aperture at under $200 used, it's one of the cheapest ways to get started with street photography or portr...
I got sidetracked and did absolutely nothing today
yeah still debating which price to make the primary display
How open is the data
As open as you want it to be
I mean like is there plans to make it downloadable as a json or like an API or something
Yes paid API for developers is a future goal
And besides that I think it’s pretty open already haha, any can be viewed any anyone, and edited by anyone
i guess at the moment the website is semi-private, we're not publically advertising or anything yet
im done with exams today, so ill help out a bit more
@errant fox senor que
https://
Fuck you stop using hdr videos
It desaturates my screen weirdly
whar
My screen has to switch to a different colour space to view hdr videos
https:// you fucking idiot
Can you not be a turd in here. It was already covered.
product foto
Need a better background at least
i lost my big paper
could just remove bg in post..?
i'll try
does the light look good?
i just used LR auto HDR blending with flashes from different angles
No too much shadow
i should boost shadows more??

yes or no you clanker
No you cunt
There's too much shadow and reflection
the fuck do i do about that
Get a proper lightning setup
Get more flash
no
And a proper backdrop
backdrop maybe
get roll of butcher paper
Toilet paper
TRUE
butcher paper the way
💀
Someone with access to IKEA and has a lot of cameras could build one of those mini studios
this is the way
I used butcher paper for my 85 listing
the light is all wrong unfortunately
im not sure exactly how they usually do it but probably start with super soft split lighting and have one side be stronger
or a single light directly above super diffused
and yeah white paper backdrop easiest way
I am works on sharply rn

balls
they grow up so fast
damn
im surprised that we have only 587 and we have decent coverage of the big 3
acutally jk
sony is empty
rip
those 85mm gonna fill it up real fast
one day I hope i can provide a stat of how much server costs just the sony 85mm lenses contribute to
I wonder why it’s such a common cheapo China focal length
probably target market? lotta people like 85 for portraits
wheres the main site for this
@vernal olive if u wanna write shit on here u can do as much as you want, i'm making a "learn" section with educational stuff
and discord commands
still working on it but here's example
Idk about you guys but when I look searching for specific body specs, it's always stuff that isn't currently covered by Sharply like buffer size / max fps of mech vs elec shutter / video formats. This makes competently comparing mirrorless bodies near impossible and with DSLRs the lack of buffer size is still annoying. With staff verdicts it's for sure useful for beginners but at this state I'm still going to the manufactures' sites whenever I need to look something up.
I can't complain about the lens spec options though 👍
yeah will add buffer
splitting fps by shutter type is planned as well as better video formats
the latter 2 are pretty complex
Buffer size varies based on the file size option, which means we would have to have all of them listed
right?
where are you finding buffer information? I can't find on nikon site
I think we can take smth like dpreview for buffer info
I could swear I’ve seen it mentioned in some of the Nikon specs
The good thing is that it’s crowd sourced so we don’t actually have to be the ones to figure it out 👍 👍 👍
If someone has the camera they can just add it
Oh I don’t think it was the spec pages
I think they list them in the manuals. Z9 for example.
I knew I saw them somewhere and I knew the AI was grabbing them from a Nikon source.
For the buffer menu, we could do smth similar to the card slots: add as many buffer options as listed
So has options for each file size/type, and framerate
That’s slick
working on more cool stuff
still open to fonts for the top text if anyone has any they know of
this one is good but maybe a little too curly
oh yum
Was gonna say it's a bit too much
Something formal like that but a little less would be nice
Unreadable to less educated people
I think the description should be more prominent too
@errant fox I can't enter use cases for lenses, did you tweak something?
it's grayed out
Yes disabled globally for now
Not sure how it’s actually going to be used
Make a Jordan-style chart
Bullshit
updated
thats much nicer imo
lowercase kinda throws it off no? only thing ive seen thats lowercase lol
working on more cool stuff
are we gonna be able to add pics?
sample photos shot with (gear item)
when
And automated reading of exif data
eventually (hopefully maybe)
been working for days on how to do video shit
its fucking hard to find a good way to display this stuff and input it
it's all so convoluted
its like nearly impossible to do it 100% accurately
why not make fps increase downward
why make it increase downward
i think resolution ascending and fps descending is probably most logical actually
i'm thinking this is the most reasonable way to approach it
Looks good yeah
Might also be worth it to implement video sampling? Like 4:2:2 and other funny numbers I don't understand
that's more of a feature of the codec itself rather than specific to the camera isn't it?
like h.265 10-bit is always 4:2:0 or no?
nice
altho i think it should follow video game coloring of like green blue purple red yellow
in increasing bits

wym
8 bit is green (common)
10 bit is blue (uncommon)
12 bit is purple (rare)
14 bit is red (legendary)
16 bit is legendary (yellow)
Manufacturer sites usually put resolution as the vertical axis btw
And fps horizontally
I can't give my opinion on what's better because I've been desensitised by data crunching in my early years
Looks good tho
video specs are live on the site now
where do you find these buffer measurements?
i was looking at some manufacturer spec pages and manuals but all of them specify some buffer information that doesnt actually translate into the real size of the internal buffer in real use as far as I could tell
need to confirm that those numbers are actullay accurate
we looked into it for the Z9, the manual and tech specs online say it has like 79 photo buffer
but the actual number on the camera while youre actually shooting it starts at a max of 12
and this was 2 people with 2 different cards
(card shouldnt even impact this number)
Z6iii I think is always 43
Yeah at this point it might just be best to ask individual people for each body to verify
We got at least one active guy for every Z cam in here for sure
Also I’m wondering if this buffer spec is even really relevant:
any camera that came out in the last year has basically infinite buffer as long as you have a reasonable SD card.
And if the tech specs aren’t consistent might not be worth the trouble
The R50 is the main reason why I suggested the buffer feature but besides it I also can't think of anything else where it's a real issue
We do end up talking about it here quite a bit though I feel like
How Z9 buffer is basically endless, R10 > R50 for action, ...
Buffers seem to be something maybe if manufacturers list it we give that number and then add notes for first hand real world usage or something?
But notes would only be useful if giving photo format and exact card and specs used I think?
Step one is figure out:
- Do all (at least the big 3) brands show the actual buffer remaining while shooting
- Does it change based on what card is in the camera or not
- yes*
its never the full amount afaik
nikon has a weird system
r043 then lets you take infinite
