What is "Screw Drive" / "AF Motor"?
Q: What is "Screw Drive"?
A: "Screw Drive" lenses are Nikon's own proprietary Autofocus mechanism developed for the Nikon F mount, originally to ensure cross compatibility between all F mount SLR camera's while bringing Autofocus to the Nikon F mount.
Q: What camera's can take "Screw Drive" lenses?
A: Most of Nikon's modern DSLR's all come with the Screw Drive Motor built into the mount, with the exception of Nikon D3### series and D5### series. Those series camera's can still take Screw Drive AF;AF-D lenses, however the Autofocus cannot be engaged.
