Reedits done on my phone lol
So much better
The ones I sent yesterday were so insanely flat
that's why you don't edit in total darkness whole being tired af
pretty birdies
Yooo physics test was excellent
cool
that escalated quick
Yes lmao
Moire it’s called I think
On my way to some bee eaters again
Hope this spot will be better for backgrounds
hopefully
Yeahhh
not the sharpest but better than what i had before approx. 8mp crop
I find the artificial sun a bit too strong
NO WAY
IM IN THE CAR
I JUST SAW A KESTREL going full speed to the ground to catch I think a mouse or something like that
Never seen it happen before
perfect birding weather, defo no heat haze
uh oh
Do i go over the fencz?
Ye
there's a path
means you're allowed there

quick edit. looks like ive overdone the blues :I might adjust it later
Are there any signs making it illegal ?
Did it anyway but it doesnt lead to anywhere anymore
Why not anymore lol
Used to be an old path that got destroyed by a flood 4 or 5 years ago
Damn
found a wild cock in the woods
Nice cock
Yeah
might post to Instagram, might be a bit too short but eh
It has a lot of quality
And one question: Could I record a video and convert each frame into a photo?
is that a wild cock?
what species is that
In theory yea
Woodcock
thanks
slight tweaks to the background and overall temperature~
nice photo!
camera?
Crazy photo
might be able to see the bee eaters again tomorrow at the usual spot
100% sure i won't be getting nice backgrounds
i have this plant at my house
Probably i'd able to attract some goldfinchs maybe in a month or some weeks
Idk
Canon R7 with sigma 150-600 + 1.4x teleconvertor
Nice
i think ur camera is better
i mean they're 2 different types of camera
the R7 is a max reach high res APS-C camera for wildlife, my camera is more of a do it all
crazy combo this tho, 150-600 is already ass on the R7 to begin with so can't imagine how it is with a 1.4x tc
also it's way to dark on the bottom left corner
that's good
i kinda like it
Would've been more fitting on the bottom right corner
and it's still too dark
imo
The weather just turned super bad here for a while :(
going back to camargue next month
the 100-400 is only like 1.6kg
and my camera is 700g
light
yeah 2.3kg total
the swallows keep coming on top of my room (they sit on the antenna)
idk how i could get them to perch on logs
maybe with a 1.4x
mm maybe
lmao my mom fed the squirrel some nuts because it looked so small and came eating the seeds from winter every day, but now its probably gonna eat the baby swallows when they hatch
sad
dont swallows like deep ponds
Im waiting for parakeets to come out
i dont have space for that
but its pretty cool watching the swallows fly
it is
they nest in our garage (the garage has no door) and they fly into there really fast and like come down from 20m in 2sec
Thanks! tried to emulate some of your recent raptor shots using gradients to add to the background. It was difficult trying to decide when you're up against a flat background. I took the tail highlight as the light coming more from the right side.
As far as the lens camera combo goes, ive not had any issues with the 150-600. I saw loads of videos and posts from a few years back saying its ass and theres issues with AF etc but I think the latest firmware update from last year helped ease those issues. (I updated from an 80d to R7 a few months back). my main gripe is just the weight of everything :l
is that to much?
i ask this because i'm very used to my small
camera
thats very light
Yo so my tip: Import the Video twice, extract the audio from both, make one video slow mo and then use the audio track from the normal speed so it doesn’t sound weird. Ofc you need more audio but I think you have video uncut with good audio
No
I don’t think so
I see goldfinches everywhere but not at these plants
Yee but there is some background noise
But that's actually a good idea
Yeah, cuz like idk if you can hear it but there’s this artificial slow mo sound that is when you make it slow and I bet this is a lot worse than normal speed background noise
Yeah ofc, would remove that anyways if I upload the slowmo to Instagram
Nice
Yeah you got some nice like 5 sec part with no moving sound if you
I only see them on those plants. 🤣
Lmao
I only saw them on trees and I saw one on a road
Besides, his name means teasel eater
I'm birding at the wrong time aren't I
i have some goldfinches nest near me
gonna try to get decent swallow pic on the antenna
pretty difficult but good luck
Let me go down to 1/3000 actually
Nice
this is a good time
1/1250 is way too high
Time zones
It's 5
Bro so annoying my siblings and parents didn’t finish packing their stuff so I’m still waiting to leave for Sweden
?
5pm
why are u leaving sweden
same for me
I’m not
No
Read again please
6am ish
17:58 right now
I hear a really loud great tit and bluetit and it's throwing me off
where are u right now
Home
that's so good
for birds yea
No not really
Mainly because I don't want to bird
Because it's too hot
my window is a pretty good location anyway if I don't want the sun on me
in the morning
I'm talking about right now
ur 200-400 has some nice bokeh
digital stabilization a lil wonky but nice video
200-600
But ye it's great esp with a nice bg
yee my tripod ain't super stable so had to use a lot of stabilization in davinci resolve
thank you tho
I wanna do more video in the future but I feel like I'd need to get a more stable tripod for that first
using a cheap ass knf tripod with a ball head rn
I also wanna try myself one day but my laptop is lacking storage rn. Once I get editing software, let’s start a thread in vl lounge with bird videography lmao
Welp they only have collab request forum 🥲
is that in a plane
@green canyon what are you doing in the holidays
Car
ur going to a plane
Plane has more space luckily
No
so
u count them?
oh yeah, they're pretty common here
Yes
Yeah here too but I was never sure until today I saw them while they made calls
And a damn lot closer than usually
Which species
Nice
I Have swifts that fly head high everyday around my house
Me when I go out without my camera
What I see
I'm not lying 😭
Well in my village I have only seen house martins and barn swallows yet. But in my schools city I saw them today
True
why are they called martins?
So true
ok
House martins get their name from a mix of French history and the Roman calendar, rather than an extraterrestrial origin. "House" refers to their habit of building mud nests on human buildings, while "martin" likely stems from the French pet name for Saint Martin or the Latin Mars.
Wrong focus mode gah
My plan for tomorrow is go look for the european rollers and bee eaters again in the morning
and if i find nothing i'll go look for some other birds in the mountains
breh
i just saw a male and female kingfisher flying together
Lucky. Trying to get some pictures of them but super rare here
I am now almost two hours into my journey to Sweden and remembered my sdcard is still at home
Your pic? I see buzzards everywhere. Like along the road. Rarely in my village unlike kestrels
Cool. Any pics of kingfishers in general?
no
look at the techincal info
no 600mm F/4 TC VR S
Yeah that too
this was close to where i live
wish ebird had a thing where you could search by type of bird
no luck today
but i was only there for an hour
and i still need a camo net
Atleast ive found a good one
ill order it today
Same
I'm 6 days no kingfisher
Eisenbahnverkehr
Sad
Tried 2 diff spots and no luck
Ich brauch ein langes Wort über Eisenbahnen
Damn
bruh ggs
u have backup?
Im so ready for it to be too far away when I finally find one
I actually left it on purpose
So many pics on there
UNSORTED
And I have a CFexpress
Which is faster
Yeah try at least finding one
we got clickbaited
Ive been told by locals that they see them almost daily on the way to work at one spot
Ok
How long each time?
Eisenbahnverkehrswegpositionswechsler
Only an hour or so around sunrise before work
Yeah see the problem?
Ja ok
Unfortunately I can't skip work to stay longer, and cant travel to better spots as public transport isnt open yet
Just call in a holiday lol
Or not on a workday
LMAO
Yeah I spent months on a good photo lmao
I see kingfishers everytime i go but they have a pretty large territory
I barely waited for my first shot of a kingfisher like it was one of the first times at my spot but then for a damn long time not a single opportunity
Same
I was 3-5m next to one two or three weeks ago though
Behind sticks though
exactly the same experience for me
i was around 1m20 from one 4 months ago
Yeah on the same day I could have grabbed it while flying
Iris is not thrilled with a European Starling fledgling’s sudden appearance in the nest. Listen to her call repeatedly, which brings NG2 in to investigate. Neither Osprey seems quite sure how to react as the fledgling toddles around the nest. Eventually, the young starling leaves the area, and Iris settles back down over her eggs.
How did the...
that is the absolute weirdest spot ever for an osprey nest
osprey nests r on cell towers very often
my area has tons of osprey nest spots they build
@undone slate do u know Reserva de la Biosfera - Ancares Leoneses
Yeah i know!
I've never been there because i'm from northwest but yeah i know!
In Galicia we have places like this one- https://patrimonionatural.xunta.gal/sites/default/files/parques/Folleto-ruta-aves-Encina_cast_correcCP.pdf
when u get a good camera it could be a very very very cool place to go too cause it looks insane and it's a golden eagle hotspot
looks pretty cool too
For real!
holy shit
just remembered i got a gift for 2 night free in some places
and one of the places is in the middle of a golden eagle hotspot!!
wow
insane place
been wanting to go there forever
difficult to access without a car tho
the gift is available until 2029 so i'll i've my licence by then
Sup guys and girls I just went birding at 5am
2 lifers
Northern lapwing and Eurasian oystercatcher
Yeah I only was up at 5 cuz I’m still on my way to Sweden
And I can’t sleep that well in the car
Sunrise was so beautiful
I also saw terns
AND I GOT SO FREAKING CLOSE TO SWALLOWS
like I got them bigger on my 300mm than on the 600
If I would have had the 600, I could have gotten usable pics
But now like meh
I saw some kind iv sandpiper but I couldn’t take a pic
This island is full of birds
sandpipers so funny bro
Yeah
legit sat and stared at one twerking for a good 20 min pecking near the water
goofy birds
I mean I have pictures but through windows they are like warped or whatever
Common shelduck
Idk lemme look that one up
Lowk I would prefer staying here just for the insane bird variety here
I just saw one more northern lapwing
God I wish I lived next to the sea
kinda rough shot but beautiful bird none the less
Next time hold still and focus properly
And then the sticks aren’t too bad
thats fair
Yeah. The only time when sticks aren’t really ruining your images is when they are directly infront of your lens and your images looks flat
That’s a great blue?
lol the image is a bit underexposed and I have never seen them lol
no thats a blue
Just gray
Ight
still learning so im not the best at exposing properly but itll get better with practice
Use auto iso
im finally bothering to transfer my photos
ive allways been told not to, ill have to try it
Who lmao
Did a wildlife photographer do this?
unfortunatley lol
Who
do yall use auto iso
Lmao
for wildlife
Yes
cuz i personally dont
Why
i use auto wb but otherwise the rest is manual
i like to adjust my settings the way i like them
ive never tried auto iso
No AF? 🤨
sometimes
nobody on here it was an someone i ran into while shooting and we just taled for a bit and they gave a few "pointers" figured id try and seems it wasnt the best advice
Just crank up iso until it’s bright enough then
i remember the absolute hellscape of having to use a 500mm mirror lens with no af or stabilization on an apsc camera
holy shit
that was fun but very hellish
I use it when AF fails
my camera only goes to like 6400...
same
What camera?
or if im doing it for fun
canon eos rebel t5
i just play around with photo stuff for fun and only lock in when i feel like it
Ight
might be 12800 but i cant remember
Idk about old cams, I often also picked iso myself there
Since I got my a7 IV I have almost only been doing auto iso
i like the evf in mirrorless
ill give auto iso a shot someday
originally i didnt like the evf when i was using my d5200 and tried an a7iii
but after getting my z5ii i love the evf
Yeah I had to get used to the a7 IV too
i thought the learning curve from d5200 to z5ii would be hard
but the 5ii is lowk so similar to the 5200 in a sense
Because compared to some Fuji cameras I have used at school before the a7 IV has a low res evf
the buttons were generally in the same spots
the ui is the exact same
it was pretty easy to swap over
almost th exact same i should say
ill do a menu comparision someday (its the same shit lmao)
What I love is I instantly see wether my image is under or overexposed
yes
thats another reaosn i dont use auto iso
cuz i can mess around with it myself and quickly see
also helps with having to change settings quickly
i like practicing that
Yeah
Bro this year
Imma have to change through like 8 different exposure times and take at least 4 photos each
In 1min and 20 seconds
This is gonna be hard
My current record is like 1min 30s
oh my buh why do all my photos keep going into one folder
i think i changed a setting
ima change that back next time i transfer
i dont really sort them
Back last year I started sorting them based on subjects
Now I do date
Same
every time i transfer it automatically makes a new folder
I switched over now
other than this time for some reason
lol
I accidentally transferred photos into a folder for Astro RAWs
And almost deleted them
lmao
I actually looked for them for two months
And then I ran out of storage
Started sorting out
Wanted to delete astrology photos
finally caught one of these lil goobers too
And then I was like wait this folder I accidentally copied something into and opened it and found the images I was looking for
and the lil geese
not the best photo though
yesssss the crane photos are good
lets goo
lmao
those are some damn good photos
They are ugly asf
lmao
I was trying to find them because I have never seen baby geese
And when I saw them
Disappointed
Gotta be honest though these are so much more cute though ❤️
indeed
You got some more of those?
i got lucky and saw a swan a while back for the first time
One time in 2024 I was in Sweden fishing and we heard cracks behind some like tall water grass, got excited thought its a moose and suddenly this crane took of, I felt like in Jurassic park because this thing with these gigantic wings looked like a flying dinosaur
Aren’t swans like super common?
not around where i live apparently
Like for me in every city I see swans (if there’s a water)
im 25 and this is the first one ive ever seen
If I may ask what country, and substate you live in?
this was also in a man made lake in the middle of the city to
Damn
Oh yeah
im in salem oregon usa
Hmm
mmmm
I think I didn’t see a single swan when I was in America
But I was at the west coast
And like up until Texas etc.
i live on the west coast lmao
In Europe they are super common
Like you can go to any city with a bigger river running through it and it has swans
i wanna go now
They sometimes come to you with their when you feed them and then scream at you for being close to their babies lol
What lens
heres another
I recommend going somewhere where you have acces to the water, lure the swan with food and then take pics of him
Aim for headshots
noted
Or full body
Though full body in my opinion only looks good if it’s directly from the front or side
And close to the ground
I frequently get so close that 200mm is way too much for full body lol
beautiful fuckin birds from the side man
Eh
thank you!!
I yet have to see two swans forming a heart in Bavaria
Would be perfect for the current contest
thats one im aiming for too
“Lovely nature” is the topic
I’m now in the oldest age category
So I got some competition
lmfao
Yeah it’s a youth contest
I got in like the closer selection last year
Top ten my age category for the topic
The winning shot was amazing
Not my photo but this was the first place
Magic of the colors was the topic
Shot on canon R7 with 100-400 I think
Damn
1/16000
Yeah they are splitting the light
I saw someone in this server with even better results
I have tried to get that a couple times already but always failed
for this contest
like seoncd and third place
Yeah but what’s runner ups
Oh
Yeah
2nd place (iPhone 13 😭) in my opinion this should be like 3rd place if not lower
3rd place Leo belongs 2nd
number 1 eclipsed both of them damn
Ye
the horizon isnt even level
YES
and I don’t think this matches good for magic of the colors
But now the last age category
yea cool shot otherwise tho for sure
The first place there is crazy
3
2
1
This shot is amazing
It’s like clouds in the mountains splitting the light
holy fuck
Yes
that is insane
You just gotta know where and when to find the clouds with light hitting them
idk how contests work
I don’t have them
damn
i saw some contests that had a mandatory raw file post with your edit but idk if that was a standard
No
Sometimes they want it if they think it’s ai
Lowk this shot for the other category is like meh
On a bigger print you can’t see the mantis shrimp
I looked at it at the exhibition and was like bro where’s the nature?
And the person in the background is also a bit meh
The only images I really liked in that topic were from the other age category
Like this photo by Raphael Christoph is insane
I love this
Amazing sense of scale
I don't know if it's worth going to a wetland or something like that right now to take photos.
Did I cook?
need to see the edited image but could be very nice
Yeah
My dumb ah had single shot on and so I didn’t get the moment there was like strikes from the hole between the body and beak
I did a 53panel mosaic of the vättern
I hope my MacBook can process this
If not I made a backup at less focal length with 31undivudual photos
Meh I think I will throw these away and redo with 200-600
This lens has too much Ca
and flares
Holdup that’s one with the wall cutting through and a 16:9 crop ain’t too bad
Meh idc bout that
your sensor or lens looks pretty dusty
Yeah because it’s fucking f32
I did it on purpose
Dark image and these sun streaks
Im suprised you can even stop down that high
f22 is my max
f2.8
be careful when pointing at the sun with a telephoto lens
even F/1000 wouldn't protect it when it's fully out
i love doing that with my phone tho
the camera is already dead so i can risk it lol
I’m safe
i actually use my phone 90% of the time when taking a pic that's pointed towards the sun mid day
lol
took a big risk for this cool shot
You can safely do that with a wide angle too
that was at 105mm
People often do that
it not really safe but if you keep it only for a few seconds it's fine
my 24-105 IS is dying
Huh
it just lets go randomly
Why
idk
?
i bought it used and i think i got scammed lol
it's an old ass lens tbf
but like even the focus ring sounds like it has sand in it
i need to get an RF one soon
Taking a break from the birds
why?
Your question makes no sense
What do you want him to explain here
why does he cooked
Ok did I cook is basically saying
Did I do well
You can't ask why if someone asks did I do well
It makes zero sense
anyone know what kind of baby bird i just found?
ohhh ok
Sparrow?
House spareow
Idk why I thought chaffinch
Probably house sparrow
yh def looks like some kind of sparrow
Hungry sparrow
is that your photo?
yes
whut
?
i don't know what you mean by lacks quality
The photo doesn't seem to have very good quality/resolution.
idk if is discord compression
what more do you want
I mean, most of bird photos and stuff if u have a good camera u usually see a lot of quality
define good camera
r6 ii
z6 iii
and good lens obviously
my camera is a 💩
?
yeah i mean, that's probably a camera issue
Like mine
i don't see an issue
this image would print large
so basically you're an overly picky pixel peeper of other peoples photos is what im getting
Yes
That's what happens to me too, my photos would be very good but the problem is my camera.
x to doubt
again, i don't see an issue with my photos, they look great zoomed in
i think youre either seeing something different than what im seeing or your expectations are ludicrous
i mean cmon... so sharp it has moire
It looks fine
Idk what you are on about
the raw file has this red and green artifact on the tight feather pattern that i was told was moire 🤷♀️
here
what is it
wanted to go to the bee eater spot this morning but i slept so badly i ended up not going cause i was too tired
the resolution of the photo
interesting
well your sensor is like 20x smaller
EXTREME CROP
yeah but that's what i'm talking about
Only 300mm
Yesss
did you send a screenshot of the little bird?
no
My 200-600 still in the depths of the car
hmm
that's too much
probably discord compression or some shit
this is moire
maybe is discord compression
hmmm i love moiré
maybe but even on discord it looks fine to me
send it as a file
fire
imagine this without low pass filter
I wanted to try a d800e for that
@deep vigil
how do i do that? im on my phone right now but i could turn my computer on
only on ur computer
Been hunting them for a while. They are either too far away or barely see them when i have my camera 😭
my phone screen is almost fully green now
Just drag the photo file to Discord
here's a slightly finer 12.4mb render from lightroom on desktop
why is that?
better
that's much better
screen burn in
idk it just happened
anyways i typically downscale my images to web size before sending anyways 😆
buy an iphone ig
I saw one too a long time ago. Not a good picture tho
Hold shift whilst dragging the file to the text box
what exact camera and lens do u hve
Oled screens retain images if they are displayed for a while
New ones don't do it as much but it mainly happens if the phone is hot and screen is bright
💀
panasonic lumix g9
panasonic leica 200 2.8
panasonic 1.4x teleconverter
How much did it cost you in total?
why
curiosity
ew
º-º
Maybe compress it into a zip file
17 pro max is so awesome
i've almost never had my srceen over 3/4 brightness btw
had this phone since 2021
I have an iPhone x that has been barely used with burn in
And a nexus 6p which hasn't
Panel lottery
$2,500 usd is the approximate used value of the camera i own with that lens, all accessories and the teleconverter
@undone slate since you're curious
it's a lot of money to me but a lot less than you could spend in this field
Wouldn't you be better off buying an R6 II or something like that?
no?
hmm
@grizzled nebula would u buy the nikon z8
the 17 pro max has more battery than samsung
Did not see any kingfishers again. Tried a new spot google recommended and it stank bad
My zfold 6 and s23 ultra has good battery life aswell. Lasts whole day. Good enough for me
if i was a nikon shooter yes
no
i was not talking about bettery life lol
my battery is also dying
is that cam better than the r5 ii
it lasts about 4h now
no
i want to buy the canon r5 ii
buy it then
give me 10k and i'm gonna buy it today
the r5 ii is the best wildlife camera
ever
also rock, what lens would i buy if i had an R6ii? that camera is $2000 leaving only $500 for a lens
100-500 i think
@grizzled nebula u should buy this cam for astro A7S III
the best camera ever for astro probably
landscape astro
don't buy the R6II in that case
that is wildly over budget by like double or triple
you ain't getting a wildlife lens on canon for that price
what price
exactly
ew no
why ew no
i'd rather buy a dedicated astro cam
that's a dedicated astro cam i think
which will be 600x better
no it's not
it's a video camera
then the r5 ii
no normal camera gets close to a dedicated astro camera for astro
but is only landscape
well astro modified cameras can do pretty good too but still not as good as a dedicated one
not deep-astro
i'm not getting different camera from a completely different system for astro
it's not even that good for photos
i should go somewhere i can try astro
r5 ii
with my 16 1.4
(A7SIII is mid for photos)
what country are u form
my R6II is better for astro
united states
u have a lot of great places
indeed
i should visit one
i live in an area of unusually intense light pollution
i got to hold a bird in my hand today
which one
sparrow
i got to hold one a month ago
i'm gonna hold in 2 weeks or so a fischeri's lovebird
it was a baby which unfortunately passed away due to neurological issues (i found him in a bin with water)
😭
baby sardinian warbler
did u got a photo of it?
oh right, i can remember
took him to the vet and they had to euthanize him
such is life
So damn hot rn
27°C
26,9
to me 12º
My lens hood is boiling too
really
So how are there photographers in the desert?
that's good
they pour water on their camera so it cools
how do they do that
take water and pour
I was at min focus distance from a magpie lol
what is ur min focus distance
Unfortunately it was above me do the angles are not nice
4.5m with the 600
Not ad much as it seems tbh
My 100-500 has a min focus distance of 0.8m at 100mm and 1.2m at 500mm
does it change when you zoom?
Yeah
Yes
Bro this house when we went there with our car there was a bullfinch on the road, we stopped and waited like a min for it to fly away
I was at min focal distance when I was in the house
Then I went out it flew away in the woods and then like 4m away
Rain is back let's go
the lens im getting has a flat mfd of 1.5m
100-500 better
i have no idea but i wanna pick it up
sparrow
fledgling
it's fine where it is
i have the entire tiktok gui burned in
Ok hmm
Do I get
200-400 f4
Or 150-600
Similar ish price
The difference between 400 to 60 is pretty big but the 200-400 is a much better lens in that range
Question is really, do you want to deal with a heavy zoom that’s perfectly sharp or a much lighter zoom that’s not as sharp
Yeah that was my dilemma
3.3kg is not light
But I do have a tripod
Personally, I’d prefer the lighter zoom that’s more comfortable to hold
200-400 is massive and heavy
That’s a monopod lens
150-600 can be held all day with no issues
Yeah that's the thing
Similar to the 400 f2.8
I just wish the 200-500 was sharper than the 150-600
Completely eradicates the point of it because it isn't
I actually underestimated the pricing on a good condition 500 f4
For birds I don't think vr matters that much if I'm shooting at 1/600 to 1/3200 ish
Right?
It’s like $1.7k for a good copy with minimal issues
is that good?
Lets hope this is sharp. Bird is looking at me and the wings make a nice circle in the reflection 😍
omg
so nice
?
I can't see any birds there
Imma have to go look around tomorrow
Tought i heard some yesterday too but wasnt sure cause i didnt have merlin
how can i do that
u guys are so lucky
u have bee-eater
but i don't have that 😭
If i have bee eaters around my house...
even hoopoes are quite difficult here
Havent seen a hoopoe in ages now
If you had my camera, would you take better photos than me?
Idk
false
I saw a picture you took of a hoopoe last month
that's too little
aarvs
ever heard of not posting pics instantly
yea
i would because i have nicer backgrounds
than u
