undone slate
#

for a tripod

grizzled nebula
#

only 😭

glossy sage
#

Both are great cameras. Canon users will say Canon. Nikon users will say Nikon lol

undone slate
#

yeah but @tough hull is a nikon user?

grizzled nebula
#

and i only got the 2 for 240 Euros TuxPepe

grizzled nebula
#

he was

#

R6II has raw pre cap TuxPepe

#

even nikon's flagship doesn't have it lol

glossy sage
#

meh

grizzled nebula
spring vault
#

r8 has raw precap

#

its the canon old precap tho u need the software to unpack files

#

and gotta wait forever for the buffer to clear each time

glossy sage
#

same with r6 ii

#

I think its meh

grizzled nebula
#

it's quite easy tbf

#

u just select the frames u want and extract

spring vault
#

reviews says canon raw precap isnt rly worth using on anything except r5ii and r1 cos its so clunky

#

but in a pinch at least u got it

glossy sage
#

I get better results with a high drive mode and just holding shutter

grizzled nebula
#

raw precap got me this nice shot

#

ik it's nothing special but yh it can be nice

spring vault
#

can see rolling shutter smh need a9iii

grizzled nebula
#

my shutter speed was too slow 💔

glossy sage
spring vault
#

yea if ur buffer is big enough

glossy sage
grizzled nebula
glossy sage
#

True

#

I just hold mine down, I can take like 10 seconds worth of photos before having to wait 2 seconds for it to clear and go again.
And your SD card is 50MB/s faster than mine

spring vault
#

nikon ppl unironically saying they dont need raw precap just hold down the shutter 100% of the time

grizzled nebula
#

medium to big birds are super easy but small ones like tits are very unpredictable

grizzled nebula
#

i like how the buffer works on nikon tho tbh

glossy sage
#

I'd rather cull than have my favorite photo have rolling shutter

grizzled nebula
#

wish canon did the same where it would just lower FPS instead of stopping

spring vault
#

sony also just lowers fps

grizzled nebula
#

ik

spring vault
#

idk why rf is like that cos theres empty space why doesnt it use it

grizzled nebula
#

we need R5III already

#

with no full stop buffer

spring vault
#

canon r2

grizzled nebula
#

with the Z9II nikon could do something insane

spring vault
#

im so excited

#

all z9 rly needs is 30fps and precap and change nothing else but if they cook itll be cool

#

120fps and precap Quaggers

grizzled nebula
#

60mp

glossy sage
#

Sounds expensive

grizzled nebula
#

depending how good the Nikon Z9II is there could be a reason for a switch

#

also depends how canon respond

spring vault
#

I prolly should wait for z8ii but I decided a7r6 is peak so im gettin that

undone slate
#

HELP

#

also canon lenses are more expensive

#

so idk what to do

#

help

fast knoll
#

Not that bad

#

For good reach

#

I had a dream that I had a 200-800 and someone stepped on it

spring vault
fast knoll
#

Emergency 100-400

remote remnant
undone slate
#

maybe i should get that one

#

what do u think?

undone slate
fast knoll
#

No I have 100-500

undone slate
naive fiber
#

2000 ish

undone slate
#

oh ok

#

2k?

#

that's a lot for a lense

#

i mean

fast knoll
#

Yeah 2000 is a good price for it

fast knoll
#

I’m trying to make some of that money back doing grad photos lol

undone slate
glossy sage
#

less good

fast knoll
#

It’s not an L lens

#

Slightly less sharp

#

Wors build quality prob

#

It’s still great

#

Kinda bulky tho

spring vault
#

100-500 is a lot sharper but doesnt go to 800 and a tc on 100-500 isnt sharper anymore

tough hull
#

Yeah well canon lenses may be more expensive on the lower end but at the higher end I feel like they have a better lens selection than Nikon and Sony. So personally as a trade off I chose Sony because they got good stuff at the lower end and better cams for that price range than Nikon. That’s my opinion though

tough hull
#

With 18-105

undone slate
tough hull
undone slate
#

but

#

that's nothing

#

for brids

#

birds

tough hull
#

Yes

undone slate
#

Strange

tough hull
#

I don’t really use it anymore

#

I shoot basically Sony only

naive fiber
tough hull
#

But my Nikon is still nice

tough hull
naive fiber
#

So 157

#

Yeah still not a lot

queen junco
#

hahaha this bird is everywhere

#

sick

undone slate
#

Ok so i'm gonna buy the r6 ii instead of the z6 iii then?

tough hull
#

I learnt the basics on That camera though

undone slate
#

idk what to do honestly

naive fiber
#

200mm on my Nikon isn't too much either but I get the benefit of more crop

tough hull
#

Without a budget we can’t really give advice

undone slate
#

in 1 year probably 3k

tough hull
#

Well… in one year new cameras may come out and you will have a better used market for the cameras that are new right now

#

And right now you can look which lenses you would like

#

So don’t look for cameras

#

Look for lenses first

#

If you see a brand with lenses you like, you will take a look at their best camera you can afford for your budget and then you can see wether you wanna get it

naive fiber
#

Yeah lens over camera always

tough hull
#

That’s is probably the best approach

naive fiber
#

To an extent

tough hull
#

Yeah

naive fiber
#

Yeah doesn't make the most sense if you were looking at a 600mm and an m43

tough hull
#

I mean it’s my kinda mistake I looked for cameras first

#

But I wasn’t into wildlife when I looked into it

undone slate
tough hull
#

Nikon and Sony prolly have the best low budget Astro stuff

undone slate
undone slate
#

idk if there is a big difference betweeen 600mm and 500mm

#

can someone tell me

tough hull
#

But I mean canon has got two cheap 800mm lenses

tough hull
#

I SHOWED YOU yesterday

#

#1041487027255914566 message

undone slate
#

yeah i know

#

but

#

only that?

naive fiber
#

yes

undone slate
#

that's kinda strange idk

naive fiber
#

really isnt

undone slate
#

On my camera there is a difference between 600mm and 720mm

tough hull
#

@magic crown how do you explain the weird background

#

Like not weird

naive fiber
#

probably

tough hull
#

But like dark

magic crown
naive fiber
#

close enough

tough hull
magic crown
tough hull
#

I thought it was like you just cut it out and put it infront of a gradient lol

#

Very good job then

magic crown
#

otherwise the background will look like this aprox

undone slate
#

how water?

naive fiber
#

yknow

#

the stuff you drink

magic crown
grizzled nebula
#

I need to get some crow shots again

#

Or ravens

undone slate
grizzled nebula

I wanna go look for some birds of prey soon

#

Doubt ill have the time tomorrow

maybe

naive fiber

ok my vision of this guy gets a month younger every time I speak to him

naive fiber
undone slate

But at my school, bringing mobile phones is quite restricted.

naive fiber
#

😭

glossy sage
#

I am not a subscriber to this claim

undone slate
naive fiber
#

its still not a law

#

worst youll get is it confiscated for the day

and get it back

undone slate

I would kill my teacher if he did that to me

still working on it. but is this too cropped in?

naive fiber

its a good crop but not a fan of the metal wire

undone slate

maybe it lacks quality??

I think

naive fiber

quality is ok

I got to go back to revision

#

no photography is killing me

grizzled nebula

they look like this around january

naive fiber

thats sick

dark ermine

nice

good branch

naive fiber

I wish I had a garden for this

having a forest next to me isnt half bad though

this is RAW. def some noise to it

grizzled nebula

gives beautiful oof backgrounds too

naive fiber
naive fiber
grizzled nebula
#

i'm so sad i had the wrong shutter speed

spring vault
#

sometimes I see a rly nice branch and I stand there and concentrate rly hard to will a bird to want to land on it and it usually works

naive fiber
#

I did that once and ended up scaring it off

spring vault
#

need to practice your spells

naive fiber
#

that branch was like only 1m away from me though it made sense

grizzled nebula
#

the trees have grown a bit since so i should be able to get some crazy pics in january

naive fiber
#

my grandparents have the best birding garden

#

there may even be kingfishers there

river sandal
#

i always forget to denoise

grizzled nebula
#

i hope the kingfisher comes back this winter aswell

river sandal
#

that should be like 1st step

naive fiber
#

just need to set up a chair

#

ignore the cooked quality

grizzled nebula
#

imagine these shots with the mimosa

naive fiber

got compressed twice

grizzled nebula
#

i really really really hope this tree will be ready for next jan

grizzled nebula
naive fiber
#

so cool

daring imp
#

Rare bird number 2 this month

spring vault
#

I got these rly red bushes in the fall

naive fiber
#

ducks arent really gettable as you cant get low enough which is annoying

#

wtf thats so cool

grizzled nebula
#

that's great

naive fiber
#

so red?

#

what of the 3 birds is that

#

willow marsh or chickadee

spring vault
#

chickadee

dark ermine
#

chickadee

grizzled nebula
#

there's some really red flowers around rn but i still haven't seen a bird around them so far

naive fiber
#

I can never tell

#

willow and marsh populations decreased by 96% in my area

grizzled nebula
#

not my best pics but the only time i've manage to get decent pics of them

daring imp
grizzled nebula

but the main hotspot is camargue which is about 3h away

grizzled nebula

i have some 24km away

but they're not always there

I did not hear an owl

#

look at the time as well

daring imp

I have seen 2 rare birds this week im lucky asf. One with only 23 sightings and another 235. Didn't take long to find em for me either lol

ugh I forgot

#

im so gutted

grizzled nebula

damn

daring imp

Is the crop too much for 24mp? Really wanna save this shot. They were like 200m away

Scenary looks quite uniform, I wouldn't crop much

grizzled nebula

what cam do you have?

this is about 2mp iirc

very bad photo

naive fiber

No

queen junco
naive fiber
#

Yeah agree

#

Sparrows aren't the lookers tbh

#

There are common birds which do look better

dark ermine
#

all this shade at chipping sparrows

naive fiber
#

You just have to search a little harder

left brook
#

and the bird is small as fuck still

naive fiber
#

720mm is a hell of a lot

queen junco
river sandal
#

i mean, im not out here searching for some crazy birds. im taking pictures at work. lol

naive fiber
#

Goldfinches aren't even too small either

left brook
#

like you would need 6000mm to fill that frame or something

naive fiber
#

Where are you at

river sandal
#

but advice to editing / compoisition shouldnt be bird specific

queen junco
left brook
#

biggest issue is he's miles away from the bird 😭

naive fiber
#

How far out was this guy lmfao

undone slate
naive fiber
#

Because it's impossible

undone slate
#

Why?

naive fiber
#

It's not the Hubble telescope it's a camera

#

A consumer grade camera

naive fiber
#

Oh man this is a lot of words

left brook
# undone slate why not?

okay lets say you have a 600mm lens on an r62, the raw image will have the finch even smaller, cropping it would be like 200 pixels

naive fiber
#

Idk how I could explain this to you

left brook
#

the gear is not the issue man

#

you need to get closer

naive fiber
#

It's not even about the resolution it's about the sensor being too small

#

That's the main thing here

undone slate
#

i'm getting confused

naive fiber
#

What

#

?????

left brook
#

ffeq

undone slate
#

Ohh ok

#

Ok ok

left brook
#

if you had an r62, and we assume you have a 600mm lens

#

that would make the bird smaller in the frame

#

when its already very small

undone slate
#

But I saw photos of aarvs that were giant crops, and in the original photo the bird looked small.

naive fiber
#

What photo

#

Is it the bee eater

#

Your goldfinches aren't sick—they're molting. Every summer, goldfinches replace their bright body feathers with duller ones for the winter. The new feathers come in one by one, giving the birds that strange patchwork appearance.

Unlike most songbirds, goldfinches molt twice a year. At winter's end,

any tips?

left brook

dark ermine

I shoot my backyard which makes it a lot easier, positioned the feeders so they have one main entry / landing branch. also my blind is my house lol. I put a cat door in my back window screen and shoot from that.

left brook

fuck damn

#

960 northern cardinals lol

#

hmmm

#

how does tagging work in lrc

#

hmmm

#

idk if i should organize by bird or by outing

naive fiber
#

why not do both

#

easier to start from when you started photography though

#

pretty useful thanks for the idea

dark ermine
#

Well, to correct myself, I started with keywords and then just started using folders because I didn't keep up with it.
if you do it by keywords you don't really need separate folders since you can filter by keyword

#

maybe one day I'll sit down and fix it lol, will have to go through and tag 6k photos

#

i did start a BUTTS keyword recently since I can't stop taking photos of birds facing the wrong way

daring imp
#

i mean not too bad? i kinda like how the birds in the background are perfect lol

I also carried that alpha coding onto my portfolio website (in my profile), so if I get a new bird I just search on there to find the right alpha code, but before that I would look it up from the database

grizzled nebula

idk if i prefer black and white or color

Do you push backgrounds in post? iirc you have a fast lens but is that purely from the lens or is there a fair bit of editing done to increase separation

grizzled nebula
unborn frost

Ah fairs. I thought the grey zone was distant trees or something

grizzled nebula

i don't like the crop but you can see a car if i give more space on the left lol

grizzled nebula

this is pure 600 F/4 bokeh

840 5.6 actually

daring imp
#

@grizzled nebula my Tamron 150-600mm had really nice bokeh too. Cant tell the difference much from my 600f4. Puffin was tamron, jay 600 f4

sharp ether
#

Why do you prefer opera over other browsers?

bitter trench
#

Ngl its purely because I have all my passwords and stuff saved on there now and the effort to move it is more than the slight hassle it has on ram. My work is basically using spreadsheets so ram is never an issue on the laptop outside of lightroom.
