What?

glossy sage
#

In my pants

green canyon
#

@tough hull would you say the 200-600 is too heavy for a hike

undone slate
grizzled nebula
undone slate
#

🤣

undone slate
#

How much did it cost you?

green canyon
#

if i were to carry all my gear it'd be like 8kg (bag included)

tough hull
undone slate
#

and what astro lens do u have?

tough hull
#

Before Spain I will get a backpack holder

grizzled nebula
#

I went "hiking" with the 100-500, 600, r6ii with grip, tripod and head for hours today

#

And the 24-105

green canyon
green canyon
#

stuff you would actually need to hike šŸ™‚

glossy sage
#

My gear is around 10kg but I use an actual Osprey hiking backpack with Osprey camera cube which distributes the weight better than any bag ive ever had

naive fiber
#

Nonono

undone slate
#

@grizzled nebula this?

naive fiber
#

I'm saying if the branch is too long and it has already fallen off

#

Then just cut it to size then

tough hull
#

That’s alr

glossy sage
undone slate
green canyon
#

no money

undone slate
#

comparing it with the 180-600mm

glossy sage

Feel that Goose sadge

naive fiber
#

I don't know what black magic it is

tough hull
#

Get like these holders that hold the camera here on a backpack

naive fiber
#

It's the same size and weight as my 70-200

undone slate
tough hull
#

Idk what they are called

undone slate
#

and smaller

#

curious...

naive fiber
glossy sage
#

The RF 100-500 is a fantastic lens. New, small, light, top of the line glass and coatings

naive fiber
#

They are both very similar

#

Optically

#

But put weight into account the 100-500 is better

green canyon
glossy sage
#

Not extending further out with its zoom is nice too

naive fiber
undone slate
#

so nikon's 180-600mm is better

green canyon
#

both are good

#

and they have their advantages and disadvantages

naive fiber
undone slate
#

And what is the best lens available for wildlife photography, regardless of price?

undone slate
glossy sage
#

You lose 100mm of range but the 100-500 is lighter and isn't a telescopic zoom. for me, thats the winner personally

naive fiber
glossy sage
#

I've been trying to snag a fantastic deal on one but haven't seen them drop below $2600

green canyon
tough hull
green canyon
#

internal zoom is so nice to have

undone slate
#

I could do a lot of things if I had the R6 II Mark, was it the R6 II or the R6 III?

tough hull
naive fiber
#

Then apparently it's ass

undone slate
glossy sage
# tough hull Internal zoom šŸ˜

Is great if the lens is small. However on a wildlife lens, at least for me, really annoying to have a lengthy boy hitting me as i walk since i attach to my backpack clip

undone slate
#

that's a lot

grizzled nebula
green canyon
#

not on any modern camera

undone slate
#

And one question, the R6 II runs on batteries, right?

The size of a solar panel you can realistically fit on a camera will probably get you around 1% extra charge per hour or something

undone slate

i really want to have THAT CAMERA

i wouldnt jinx it too much tbh

the r6ii is good but id rather have the z6iii

undone slate
#

I've also been doing photography since January

#

so yeah

green canyon

yeah thats pretty short

undone slate

I improved a lot and in a short time

#

If I had a good camera...

wide flint

lowkey i would recommend something like canon 5d II and 100-400mm L II

But i get good photos sometime

i guess entry level mirrorless would be fine too

yeah if you want to impress viewers and make the photo have a meaning you need to focus on the moment more. get good angles, make the subject 3d and give the photo a story. its not just snapping a pic tbh

# undone slate things

You're still very new to this hobby, there's so much to learn, especially in bird photography that it's not really transferable in a single message. But your knowledge on how to approach birds, what spots to spend your time at seems to be the biggest problem rn.

You in London should have a lot of peregrine falcons right?

english birds names are quite strange

tough hull

tough hull
#

In German a peregrine falcon is called wanderfalke which is if you translate the individual words a hiking falcon or like migrating falcon

#

Kestrels are turmfalken which means towerfalcon

undone slate
naive fiber
#

Tit means small

#

Afaik

tough hull

Because they nisted in towers, but now mostly houses

naive fiber
undone slate

For example, the black kite has the name of a tool that has a dovetail (the tool is called MILANO in Spanish).

Otherwise just wide open

I always shoot wide open too

no need to stop down for sharpness with the 200-600, and focal plane is usually big enough

mmmmm sharpness

and that bokeh

from 50mp to 20mp

I just go f9 if I want the whole subject in focus and that’s when they are up close

spring vault
#

I don't find the need to stop down for more dof unless I'm basically at min focus dist and gl doin mfd bif

So here's a few, it looks like I've straight up missed focus, but while taking the pictures it was locked on to the face/eye and I'm at 1600/2500 for most of these with ISO 250/500. I've cranked up the shadows cause the RAW is way too dark. I don't know if it is an AF issue or haze or something else. I took a picture of a stray cat that popped up, and AF tracking, etc., was working perfectly fine.

Also these are heavily cropped/screenshots

I only saw it once in the woods and it ran away. I don't know how you managed to take that picture. Is it cropped?

undone slate

This is probably a silly question, but that's not your picture, is it?

undone slate

Oh really?

magic crown

on the exif data from the cam

undone slate

That was a crop, wasn't it?

#

It's a very close-up photo

magic crown
#

barely cropped

undone slate

Was it a coincidence that the crow landed so close?
And how did you get that gray background?

magic crown
magic crown

and for the background it's just grayscaled it and played with the light on lightroom

undone slate
#

and do u have a a6400?

It has impressive quality.

@grizzled nebula idk if i already ask u this

Do you have any landscape photos of the Milky Way?

I have yet to find a situation where buffer size hold me back tbh

undone slate

I say this because I want to know how the R6 II performs.

tough hull

A 7 IV has like idk 14-15 images for buffer I think

In the contrary, having to roam 30 images everytime I precap is quite cumbersome

if u want only landscape photography i mean

Wildlife is somewhat on the cheaper side with landscapes because you don't really need extra gear for it besides body and lens
However, landscape if you get into filters šŸ˜„

u only need camera and lens

there's a lot of missed talent because of that probably

undone slate

@glossy sage is ur camera better or the r6 ii

glossy sage

R8 is lighter I guess as well. If you can spend the couple hundred extra I'd go a R6 series

#

Canon usually R(lower number) -> higher quality series

You don't need to start at the best stuff

You can buy an old DSLR with an older telescopic sport lens and get great results

Yes "only" that stuff but the battery life upgrade is huge, IBIS is massive, and dual sim cards is a nice to have

Battery life + IBIS makes the R6 II way better than the R8 IMO. I have to bring spare batteries with me and have them full charged every trip

grizzled nebula

Ibis is nice but not super special

Canon's AF is top tier. The price difference between proprietary brand lenses isn't that huge
