I can't bro

grizzled nebula
naive fiber
#

I wish I could use one on my Nikon

#

Such a good weight and size

#

It's the same weight as my 70-200 which is insane lmao

If anyone will ever go to Poland I highly recommend this national park, rode about 50km from my city on bike to this place and the moment I crossed the sign I was deafened by bird sounds

grizzled nebula
grizzled nebula
#

maybe one day

dusk portal
#

Probably the most in Poland

#

It's also the largest one

#

With multiple watch towers, bridgeways over the marsh

#

So you can def spot something here

#

I explained what lives here

grizzled nebula
#

damn i'd like to see cranes close up

#

saw some once but was quite far away

dusk portal
#

They're pretty common in the region

#

You can hear them at night

#

I also saw a lesser spotted eagle on my way back

grizzled nebula
#

i have one of the biggest birding hotspots in europe 3h away from me and that's where they're at

#

the problem is the 3h drive

#

or almost 7h if i take the train and bus

dusk portal
#

Certainly top in the country

grizzled nebula
#

camargue is the best hotspot in france

dusk portal
#

The are 3 national parks in a 60km radius from Białystok

#

Biebrza, narew and the Białowieza forest

grizzled nebula
#

also about 3h by plane and bus from ebro delta which is one of the biggest in spain and in europe

grizzled nebula
dusk portal
#

The whole region is a paradise for both landscape and wildlife

#

We have the largest population of European bisons

#

(leading the conservation program)

grizzled nebula
#

camargue has some of the most insane sunsets i've ever seen cause it's basically all flat

#

and there's the sea

#

like look at this

dusk portal
#

ultimate east poland guide for birdspotting
one of the most diverse regions for all kinds of wildlife and landscape photography, especially bird
there are 3 national parks and one landscape park in close proximity to the capital of the podlasie region (which is also very good)

the biebrza national park (top left) is the largest national park in poland, regarded as the best birdshooting location due to a lot of marshes, peat bogs and primal forests, it presumed to have about 85% of polish aviofauna representatives here (the symbol of the park is a warbler)

białowieża forest is the most famous example of primal forest in europe, having a lot of owls and other predatory birds

the narew national park is similiar to biebrza national park in terms of avifauna, but i rank it the lowest among the 3 due to droughts frequently occuring here (when i was here last week it was all yellow, where it was usually green in may)

#

its about a 2h ride from warsaw, so highly recommend it to everyone

charred holly
#

Finally learned how to swallow

#

Also wew, got pretty lucky there

daring imp
#

Have any of you tried photographing owls at night? Trying today trying rn. Gonna try bumping iso max on my r62

grizzled nebula
#

I have but not been able to find one

#

Youre gonna have to be at like 1/20

#

1 shake and the image is ruined

#

btw what camo is that

#

wait that's lenscoat right?

daring imp
#

Its very good for bump protection that's why i got it

grizzled nebula
#

i've heard the quality of the fabric is quite shit cause they don't have edges

#

thinking of getting this chasing birds one

#

but it looks kinda weird

daring imp
#

Yeah kinda meh but i like it! Been good

grizzled nebula
#

surprised this ball head has even survived the last few months

daring imp
#

Can't wait for proper summer then we have light 24/7 outside. Can do bird photography at night too lol

grizzled nebula
#

i want my gimbal head to arrive before sunday

grizzled nebula

must be fun

but horrible for astro enjoyers

grizzled nebula

i'm talking about gimbal head btw lol

grizzled nebula

i still don't know if the 600 will work on my tracker

grizzled nebula

i've seen some cool birds of pray this year but haven't been able to get a good pic of them

#

except for the black kite ones which are decent

sparrowhawk

charred holly

I have a relative who lives in a place where hunting is common, so there are plenty of vultures

They are always too high though

daring imp

To make my TikToks more interesting i was thinking of mounting a go pro on the top of my lens so people see the landscape first then i cut to the cam footage. Could that idea work?

Or one of those magic arms

daring imp
broken mantle
daring imp
#

Ive only seen people do it in concerts but not wildlife. Thought it would be unique

broken mantle
#

I just use one of these. And mount it on my lens foot

daring imp
broken mantle
#

Copied that idea from a friend. He uses something similar and mounts it on his lens hood for pov shots. And also mounts it on his empty monopod for dramatic location reveal shots.

Anyone here participating in next month’s fraser hills bird race?

Try monopod + Monogimbal combo

grizzled nebula

I can even track swfits easily now 🤩

daring imp
#

Took a really long break but my friend who is a semi famous composer for documentaries wanted to use my videos ive made into a short video for his masterclass gave me motivation to go again. Hes also gonna collab with my YouTube video with his channel that has 4m views so thats kinda insane

grizzled nebula
#

It feels like there a bird tracker with how smooth this thing is

grizzled nebula
#

Managed to track it without losing it once

#

Wouldve probs had 2 pics before losing it with the ball head

spring vault

those birds r easy could've done it handheld smh

grizzled nebula

5.7kg handheld trying to follow a flying bird keko

I did that for the griffon vultures tbf

#

Should I get a 300 f2.8 and use a 1.7x

#

Or 150-600

#

It's a pretty hard decision tbh

#

They cost relatively the same

grizzled nebula
naive fiber
#

Apparently iq wise it's pretty matched

#

But without the TC at 300mm the 300 f2.8 will definitely look better

I never really looked into Nikon TCS that much anyway

1.4 then

trim fox
#

i did not know this channel existed

rancid badger
#

Neither did I until five minutes ago.

#

Although I also have to admit the birds in my area aren't nearly as interesting as some of the ones these folks have shot, I'm sure.

trim fox
#

birds that are common in your area are always a rarity for someone else

#

really strange to think about

#

we have an abundance of american robins here, never gone a day without seeing one

#

but in other places in the world they literally dont have them

rancid badger
#

Never thought of it like that before. I guess my aim is a bit high right now.

wanton moss

whats considered fairly common is HOT BUSINESS for americans

bird im chasing right now is belted kingfisher

seems to be quite uncommon though

What settings would you recommend for birding? Shutter speed to catch action? And would I want to use aperture for cloudy days?

anybody ever have any difficulty picking up a bird book for their region?

rancid badger
undone slate

thoughts?

trim fox
naive fiber
trim fox
#

you can get away with 1/400 or 1/300 on bigger birds depending on your image stabilization/handholding skills

undone slate
naive fiber
#

so a bit uncomfortable with the framing

undone slate
#

I don't notice it much.

naive fiber
#

if you will

trim fox
#

need more space above their heads imo

naive fiber
#

angle?

naive fiber

framing is a bit of an issue here

undone slate

?

wanton moss

cropped

trim fox

you should almost always aim to leave space where the animal is looking/facing imo

tough hull

Try to get closer, uncropped it looks very good

gilded yarrow
#

for swallows etc I'm at at least 1/3200th

#

aint no way youre doing bif of small birds with 1/800

trim fox
#

oh BIF PepeLaugh

#

nvm then

tough hull
naive fiber
#

bif I do at least 1/1000

gilded yarrow
#

Ah well stationary birds are easier, but even then I try to do at least 2x focal length to be safe

trim fox
#

chickadees and warblers are really jittery when stationary and I find 1/600 enough

#

in flight idk

trim fox
#

idk how you track them when theyre moving at mach speed lol

tough hull
#

In flight 1/2000 at least for general, crank up for swallows or similar

naive fiber
tough hull
#

Just gliding through the city

naive fiber

they are

tough hull

You barely had time to get them

tough hull

I have max 8k

grizzled nebula

dont do this

trim fox

manual with auto iso

naive fiber
#

you will hate yourself

#

basically like

#

"FUCK ITS BLURRY"

tough hull
trim fox
#

honestly I shoot wide open like, 90% of the time so you really only need to worry about shutter and iso

#

just me tho

trim fox
#

i think most of your light budget is moved towards a high shutter anyway

#

so wide open is preferred

tough hull
#

But like I get them from below so they are dark as heck and I need to brighten them up a lot and for that a low iso is good

deep vigil
#

I like to photograph birds :3

I wish I could have one

rancid badger

I've been wondering about getting a 1.4 TC. I've been getting yes and no's about it.

I wanna try using my new tripod and gimbal head in the swallow place tomorrow

tough hull
deep vigil
#

Such is life

rancid badger
trim fox
#

okay we have the same lens then

tough hull
#

Well I could but I am saving up for a wide angle right now/ I had already but it came broken and now I gotta wait for a new offer

trim fox
#

the 1.4x is pretty good, the reach is really nice

#

but it gets a little soft and your aperture gets cooked to f9

deep vigil
#

That sucks. Wide angles are fun tho

tough hull
deep vigil
grizzled nebula
#

My 600 pretty much doesnt lose any iq with a 1.4x tc

deep vigil
#

I really like my 200 with its included 1.4X tc

trim fox

oh wow

deep vigil
#

I notice a little motion blur on the wing tips, and maybe there’s bits to clone out

#

But yeah bird

#

I would clone out the obvious white pole in the background but I just switched to Linux and I have to learn all new software and techniques

tough hull
#

These here would have been so much better at 1/120

#

I love shots from the side with sharp body and blurred wings

trim fox
#

maybe im a hater

#

it just looks like he missed focus

tough hull
trim fox
#

ah yeah

tough hull
#

Actually the head isn’t blurred at all but still too much is blurred for me

#

80% of the wildlife photos I see in these books or whatever are shot on Nikon

trim fox
#

i really want to try out nikon their system looks great

tough hull
#

Well yeah their lenses look 🔥

naive fiber
#

not so much with the sigma

tough hull
#

But the cameras for these prices I could just get as good raw precap for the same money so Nikon will be something I would get if I’m rich

#

Otherwise Sony or canon

naive fiber
#

its a shame about the raw precap

tough hull
#

Would be so good if they had it

naive fiber
#

the new 600mm f4 is fire though

trim fox

deep vigil
rancid badger

Yeah. It's a two-level fountain at my last job. Sometimes it ran, sometimes it didn't.

deep vigil
#

Ah, as fountains sometimes do

rancid badger
#

Taken with a different camera, though I think it was with either my sigma or my tamron 70-300. I can't recall.

#

Also, the place was slowly falling apart. Pretty typical for where I live. "Ooh, aah, boring."

deep vigil
#

Boring?

naive fiber
#

I was annoyed by the branch size on this one

rancid badger
#

I live in a high-density retirement city. New thing come and people visit the hell out of it, then it's meh. I have my personal places I still go to.

#

The only animals I get around here are birds, but maybe since I have found this forum I can try for better bird pictures at least.

deep vigil
#

I like taking photographs of birds, but I also get squirrels and rabbits

deep vigil
rancid badger
#

The known places for rabbits are on private property and I'm not allowed to stay overnight, even if it's public land.

deep vigil
#

Ah, rabbits have invaded our private property and all I have to do is go outside and some days I’ll see them chewing on the grass.

rancid badger
#

Rabbits have been pretty much hunted out where I live. Kind of annoyed by that.

deep vigil
#

We have all agreed to do nothing about the rabbit population and to let it grow heh

rancid badger
#

Lucky.

#

I've only caught a glimpse on one IRL personally. It looked fairly sized.

deep vigil
#

I even have pictures of a baby bunny poking its head out of a hole in its burrow.

naive fiber
#

So it was my fault I put a massive branch in

deep vigil
#

I will admit that the resolution is such that I can see the reflection of an open window in the bird’s eye.

naive fiber
#

So it isn't even best sharpness

deep vigil
#

Hah so it is a window?

#

That must be comfy

I should set up a feeder positioned such that I can do the same

naive fiber
#

I should get a red dot when I decide what lens I want

tough hull

To track birds

red dot would be helpful more for primes

tough hull
#

I live in that small part in Germany that doesn’t get them

gilded yarrow
#

Yup

tough hull
#

My bad

#

It was hoopoe

#

Still my area isn’t good for bee eaters and they are probably one of the rarest birds here

gilded yarrow

Also saw a hobby

Crazy

gilded yarrow
tough hull
#

I technically live next to where they should live

#

But there have never been any sightings within 30km of me

#

Same for bee eaters

#

Spain gonna be amazing though

gilded yarrow

Hoping to find one this year

tough hull

spring vault
undone slate
naive fiber

I don't usually see them for photos in flight so understandable if you don't know

spring vault
#

I don't have many flying pics for those they don't rly fly out in the open

#

for perched birds just evf

naive fiber
#

Yh makes sense

#

I only really see things like bluetits in flight

#

I would like one for parakeet shooting though

#

Because god those are erratic

spring vault
#

here's a palm warbler I got thru the evf and using precapture

#

in a tree hopping to a higher branch

naive fiber
#

Woah

#

Precap my beloved

naive fiber
#

I really want it lmao

charred holly
#

Precap turns all birds on stick into the craziest bird in flight you have ever seen

#

Love it

naive fiber
#

There was one time I missed focus on the coolest photo were I got the best moment without precap

#

It was a bluetit placed perfectly between 2 branches

naive fiber
#

And it was out of focus

tough hull
#

Good idea, ain’t it

green canyon
#

Just saw a bird take a peanut from my feeder just to throw it on the ground

#

the best part

naive fiber

"Why's my feeder draining so fast"

And it's just dropping every other seed

rummaging for the good seeds

Yes! The site is open 7am-7pm and the charge is £5 per person, to cover site monitoring. We can currently only accept cash.

There is a viewing area near the nesting site, and a car park. It is located to the east of the quarry in a large grass field off Gimingham Road at TG284384 or what3words.com/bars.september.worked

grizzled nebula
#

I have a bee eater spot 10 mins away but since it’s flat getting a nice background is near impossible

#

Going to hopefully see some peregrine falcons tomorrow

#

There’s also rollers and bee eaters there and since it’s not flat I might get lucky and have a nice background

gilded yarrow
#

Yeah rollers are super sick

grizzled nebula
#

Managed to get an alright pic of a roller

#

Don’t mind the edit

#

This was pre screen calibration

#

The island I’m going to is really cool

On the way there once I saw a whale

Maybe I’ll get to see one again tomorrow 👀

I dont use my tripod enough for a big tripod to be reasonable

green canyon
#

but thats really fucking expensive

gilded yarrow
#

I handhold 99% of my shots

spring vault
#

I only use a tripod for landscape and product pics when the light is dim

grizzled nebula
#

Looks scary

#

I only use the tripod etc with the 600 cause it gets quite tiring to hold after a while

green canyon
grizzled nebula
#

Tbh I don’t think I need anything else now with this wh-200 II

#

Surprisingly light

green canyon
#

yeah its going to hold up for ages

grizzled nebula
#

This new tripod is bigger, thicker and meant to be same weight as my other tripod but it feels like a piece of paper compared to my other tripod

spring vault
#

they vinyl wrapped their lens foot

grizzled nebula

(The weight)

#

Perfect for the star tracker
