I was doing portraits at lower shutter so I could shoot base and then he moved so I was like let’s crank up the shutter and I aimed at him then the guy next to him flapped with his wings so I aimed at him but too late so I waited and missed the other one again. I decided to stay at one, only got this weird shot with the framing off so I waited for 10 mins and they didn’t do it again and just flew away

You mean for your R6 MKII?

@grizzled nebula

#

Is there a big difference in quality between the original file and the one on Discord?

idk if it's the ES or PreCap on the R6II but ffs

this is really bad

Looks like shutter speed

#

Ur using pre-capture?

grizzled nebula

Use EFCS and h+ mode IMO

grizzled nebula
grizzled nebula
glossy sage
#

What

grizzled nebula
#

i use precap for a reason

glossy sage
#

What reason?

#

You can still use EFCS with pre-capture

grizzled nebula
#

so i can get the flight..

grizzled nebula
glossy sage

Yes

grizzled nebula

it's only ES

grizzled nebula

it's greyed out on ES

grizzled nebula

the setting is greyed out

can't change at all..

#

it's stuck on ES

spring vault
#

The precapture frames when in efcs are still eshutter

glossy sage
#

OoOh gotchya the whole screen on that page is grayed

spring vault
#

it's not using the shutter for the precap

glossy sage
#

Yeah but when u click the button fully down at least it uses shutter then

#

I dont like the pre-capture it takes so long for canon to write and clear that buffer

grizzled nebula
glossy sage
#

I personally use EFCS and H+ mode and just hold shutter down

grizzled nebula
#

House martin

glossy sage
# grizzled nebula

It doesn't bother you once the pre-capture is filled it takes like 2-3 minutes to write the raw burst file? Then having to use canon eos utility to deconstruct the file pepePain

tough hull
grizzled nebula
#

I just extract them directly in camera

tough hull
#

I finally lock on to a swallow or Martin whatever and have perfect tracking and suddenly they turn to th sides

glossy sage
glossy sage
grizzled nebula
#

i can hold it for 4 or 5 seconds i think

#

lemme try

#

ok i can press the button for 10s before it fills up and it takes about 15s to clear when full

glossy sage
fast knoll
#

what card r u using?

grizzled nebula

glossy sage
fast knoll
#

yea v30 is slow for modern cameras

grizzled nebula
#

i use a V60

fast knoll
#

but still clearing buffer in minutes is pretty insane

#

i had a v60 and it worked pretty well

#

then i upgraded to a 512gb cfe

#

got it for $180 and now it's $340

glossy sage
#

I thought v30 for still photography was the standard

#

Thats what I read anyways

#

My friend was asking about precapture not to long ago and I actually made these videos

undone slate
#

My question is how did you photograph a great tit in the same place and eating on different days?

grizzled nebula
grizzled nebula
undone slate
naive fiber
spring vault
#

I was usin a1ii with half second precapture on a v60 card and almost never hit buffer and when I did fill the buffer it didn't stop shooting just slowed down the burst rate

undone slate
#

it doesn't make noise

#

explain me

#

pls

naive fiber
spring vault
#

unfortunately I didn't get any epic precapture moments this time. The bushes were too dense so when birds took off they'd be immediately behind sticks

@undone slate quality don’t matter for wildlife contests that much

undone slate

the moment is more important

tough hull

The wildlife photographer of the year award was given to someone with a photo shot at like idk iso 20000

grizzled nebula

20000 iso doesn't mean bad quality

undone slate
grizzled nebula
#

btw what was the pic

tough hull
undone slate
#

And who really decides who the winner is?

tough hull
#

Judges

undone slate
#

And they can't give you money if you finish in the top 40?

undone slate
#

I don't know if there's a limit on the number of photos in a contest.

tough hull
#

Wait holy shit I mixed something up my bad @grizzled nebula

grizzled nebula
#

?

tough hull
#

Idk why but in my memory it was with a ton of noise

#

Or the print there was bad idk

undone slate
#

it doesn't have much noise

grizzled nebula
#

the quality is quite good

tough hull
grizzled nebula
#

can see the denoising here but other than that it's good

undone slate
#

and lens

tough hull
#

So either I mixed something up or it was actually a bad print

grizzled nebula
#

judges judge the what the photo is about and the quality, you need a mix of the 2

tough hull
#

Some youth price though I didn’t like it since it had that cheap flash look

grizzled nebula
#

you could send an insane pic of 2 eagles fighting but if the quality is shit it'll get rejected instantly

I almost deleted it cos it's rly boring but I figured I could post it

narrow crag

i think its great bro

spring vault

been trying to edit one pic a day

so I got a couple more similar swallow pics

narrow crag

I should do that too. Ive recently not been spending much time at all on editing and just basically mass-exporting whatever pics i took for ebird

so nothing has really been good

spring vault

I generally like the pics with more unique poses and backgrounds over the profile view of bird on solid color background pics

yeah

undone slate
naive fiber
#

ill explain this fully

undone slate
#

It really annoys me that I had to leave this morning because there was literally perfect light for sparrows.

naive fiber
#

they have less food in winter so they come to feeders more

undone slate
#

yeah

#

so true

naive fiber
#

in summer they have more food so they visit feeders less

#

I dropped from 70 to 20 visits a day

no clarify

undone slate
#

In my experience, they go more in summer than in spring.

naive fiber
#

They will eat what is closer

undone slate
tender galleon
#

i'd put the feeder in a spot where the background is further away

undone slate
#

how

tender galleon
#

put it in a different spot

undone slate
#

i can't

tender galleon
#

and you can find birds in the forest too

undone slate
#

idk if i can do that

#

also the forest isn't a good spot for my camera

#

is pretty dark

tender galleon
#

find a spot with good light and wait for a few hours

@undone slate is it just me or is the eyes abit out of focus? or is it sharp for u aswell i cant really tell

#

sharp enough for social media right?

undone slate
#

i think it's pretty good

undone slate
#

probably one of the best images that've seen of that bird

undone slate
naive fiber
#

maybe just noisy

#

it seems noisy

#

try denoise

undone slate

@daring imp what cam do u have

cam + lens

daring imp

undone slate
naive fiber
daring imp
#

@naive fiber I tried denoise + a little sharpening on photoshop

naive fiber
naive fiber
#

seems better

undone slate
#

my wish is to get a z9

#

but it's not for now

#

maybe 10 years

#

or less

#

idk

naive fiber
#

z9 is defo not the best for bird photography

undone slate
undone slate
naive fiber
#

no raw precap

undone slate
#

but nat geo photographers use that

naive fiber
#

david yarrow?

#

yes he gets sent them for free

undone slate
naive fiber
#

also he doesnt do bird photography

naive fiber
#

for free

undone slate
#

The Nikon Z9 It does have a pre-capture function (Pre-Release Capture). This feature was added via a firmware update (version 2.0 or higher).

WHAT

and it doesnt distort the nature of the photo

but I understand

do you have a memory

i have

but i don't understand

why google tells me that it does

i'm getting so confused

pls

rate this photo

I’m getting CFexpress

what's tha

undone slate

price?

tough hull
undone slate

not bad

Cheapest option

undone slate

yup

tough hull

Well I could get 480GB for 370€

gilded yarrow
charred holly
tough hull
charred holly

tbh, I only do photo and the only case where it limited me was in very fast bursts when the buffer is full

undone slate
tough hull
undone slate
gilded yarrow
#

my cards have 210mb/s and I never think I need more buffer

tough hull
undone slate
#

that's the 🌞

charred holly
#

But at the very least, Sony camera don't lock up when the buffer is filled so it isn't so bad

undone slate
#

how do i solve htat

#

that

naive fiber
#

yeah my nikon just stops

#

20 or so raw photos at 5.5fps fills my card

#

and buffer

tough hull
#

BRUH

#

256MB sd or something what tf you got

charred holly
#

That is very low indeed

tough hull
#

Fills the card is crazy

naive fiber
#

not fills the card ugh

#

I cant word

tough hull
#

Fair

#

Just buffer?

#

Or what you meant

charred holly
#

That is about 3.5s of buffer, not so bad

grizzled nebula
charred holly
#

6 fps sounds quite slow for fast action though, don't you struggle for that kind of scenario?

grizzled nebula
tough hull
#

Oh nvm

#

My card only has 140MB/s write

#

That is roundabout 3.5photos per second

#

And that’s why I wanted CFexpress

#

800MB/s at least depending on what I get and that’s good for everything I currently have and maybe get in the future

#

I wanna upgrade to a precap camera as soon as possible

#

Either a7 VI or a7 V when it’s cheaper

naive fiber
tough hull
dark ermine
#

i dont see myself ever using precap when auto cap exists with ai tracking

naive fiber
grizzled nebula
#

he has the mark 1

dark ermine
#

but maybe that's because i haven't tried it, since nikon is jpg precap only and I dont shoot jpg

grizzled nebula
#

well original

charred holly
naive fiber

unless he made a typo

grizzled nebula
naive fiber

OH WAIT

#

sorry

#

im such an idiot lmao

tough hull
dark ermine
naive fiber
#

I thought you were talking about the body

grizzled nebula
grizzled nebula
tough hull
#

It’s 1s

charred holly
tough hull
#

So I will have roundabout 90photos depending on what I shoot

grizzled nebula
#

R6II precap might be op actually

grizzled nebula
#

cause u get 1 big file, u can chose the ones u want in camera and then just delete the file so u keep only the ones u want

#

instead of having to delete each individual pic

tough hull
#

That’s multiple that were moving all the time

grizzled nebula
#

actually might be the same on the newer precap stuff

dark ermine
#

it can do one just fine

tough hull
#

For example get a kingfisher that launches in the air and get the moment it’s getting down to jump upwards like when it’s collecting momentum

dark ermine
#

just point it at an expected branch and enable auto, walk away

naive fiber
tough hull
tender galleon
tough hull

g2 or g1?

charred holly
#

Nikon cameras have an autocapture mode iirc

tender galleon
naive fiber
#

I was reffering to the tammy

tender galleon
#

ohh

#

idk abt that

naive fiber
#

contemp is cheaper afaik

dark ermine
#

am i even a birder anymore?

naive fiber
#

sigma

tender galleon
naive fiber
grizzled nebula
naive fiber
#

if that counts

tender galleon
#

the 100-400 is like 180-640 on my cam

naive fiber
#

also at 600 shoot at f8 which makes sense

naive fiber
#

apsc

tender galleon
#

yes and canon is 1.6x

tough hull
# dark ermine it becomes a philsophical topic at that point lol. for example I as the birder t...

I mean like wildlife photography, it has been a game of going out, waiting and experiencing the whole thing, getting close to the animals etc., but now just putting your camera somewhere and being lazy, waiting? No thanks because this is destroying what wildlife photography is for me. Also birders, the actual people don’t feed the birds always, that’s just them photographers. What you are trying to compare can’t be compared.

tender galleon
#

the main thing i was asking was that is the one i sent in good enough condition lol

grizzled nebula
#

not sure about using the 150-600 on aps-c

grizzled nebula
#

ik it's more expensive but worth it

tough hull
#

And like imagine that “steals” us sharing our hobby on insta, because every fatass rich kid will just buy a cam put it outside and let it take pictures then they let Ai edit and suddenly they get millions of views for a shot they didn’t really take.

grizzled nebula
#

The 100-400 is II can also take a 1.4x tc very well

#

the tamron can't

naive fiber
#

some of the best photos I have seen are on that

tender galleon
naive fiber
#

wha thats a lot

tender galleon
#

the lowest i can find is 1.2k so 500€ more expensive

grizzled nebula
#

It's usually around 1k euros

tender galleon
#

not here

grizzled nebula
#

well it's worth the extra 500 euros if u can afford it lol

#

sharper, faster and better AF

tender galleon
#

idk if i need that good gear yet imo

grizzled nebula
#

imo better to get a good one now than having to sell the other one and buying a better one later anyway

dark ermine
tough hull
#

Because then it will be like fully pay to be good

naive fiber
#

The feeder is being made now ❤️

tough hull
#

What stands is that I won’t use auto cap
