I'm opting for the great tit because I saw a pair of them near my house and I'm interested in them coming to my PETG printed feeder, although I don't know how often I should wash it.
Wash the outside
But not the inside if they are nesting
Don't wash it as such just take a wet wipe
You probably don't even need to do that
i mean the feeder
Nooo
For the first time ever I heard a Eurasian wryneck
So close to me
But I deleted the recording on accident
Heard them again and got recording
Rip bro
Every week
why?
No photos I assume
Because you don't want to kill the birds from disease
I know, but the feeder is fine as long as no birds go there, besides, it's a hanging feeder.
Ok but that doesn't change the fact that birds get diseases
Apart from that, I will make them black sunflower seeds that last a long time.
but why do they get that?
Why do humans get diseases
virus
My question was rhetorical but no not just viruses
trichomonosis is one
That killed a lot of the UK greenfinch population
And chaffinches
u don't have those on UK?
I cropped it maybe a little lot. The heron was quite far.
The heron isn't that much tbh
For editing inspo you can drop some in #1478202337804685372
I think they look pretty unedited right now
I like the ducks and the deer
The deer looks very warm though
It was taken during golden hour.
It looks more orange than golden hour
Maybe adjust the wb a bit
It looks a bit more like a sunset that has been faked than a real one tbh
I have no clue if this is sooc though
Your camera probably messed up wb
I meant sooc rather than raw
Nah
Shame
Better?
I’M AT THE KINGFISHER SPOT
I came here hearing splashing
Thought it was fish
Then I sit for 15 mins and kingfisher flys so close to me I could have touched it
Then I hear splashing
I look to my right and 3m next to me kingfisher lands
But
Behind branches
At a different spot but af stopped working
😭
I also tried some basic masking but don't know if it made anything.
Idk what to call it
good luck 🍀
There's the best kingfisher spot in the UK I saw
I have no clue where it is
And it's really frustrating me
lol
First pic of greater whitethroat ever
pretty nice imo
When you are trying to shoot portraits and random bird wants to be included.
wdym by portrait?
Like actual portraits of my wife with something like 80mm wide open.
A bird just landed over my head on the top of the pergola so I just swung the camera and shot a few from maybe 1m away.
so lucky
Blackbird
Cute
Pretty bokeh lol
i think u should do wilflife photography...
Most of my great shoots feel like luck and not an effect of hard work 😅
I guess if you try a lot you have moments.
That's wildlife
yea
I semi do it on the side. I basically live in nature atm.
what's atm?
At the moment
Ok
What does this mean
Where exactly can you find mandarin ducks?
they're from asia
they're quite limited
yea, they're introduced
Narrowboat on a canal.
Probably 70-300, on Fuji so x1.5
Ahh
I've yet to learn how to shoot birds on the move. Most of my photos are from max 5m away
There may be all outside my window to be fair.
I see 3 male mandarin and one mallard
But what's your house like?
There is a moorhen coming
No, this is my house, I live on a narrowboat
https://youtu.be/k8PzkbewfDY
(Excuse low quality, I'm horrible at the video stuff)
Title says it all and yet I ramble for 30min anyway,
enjoy?
u live on a narrowboat?
how's that?
that's so cool
I like it, but a lot of stuff is very different, though a lot of stuff is the same 🤔🤷♂️
Hehe, subscribe to my channel 😛🤣
NO WAY
I JUST HEARD ONE OF THE RAREST BIRDS HERE
nice
i hope you can take a photo of it soon
Must be fun asf
it would be a great photo
yes
but u need to be in the uk
same
Do you think I can get a good photo of a cassowary at a zoo?
not with ur cam
you'll see the fence a lot in the photos
tbf ur camera is so small u can probs fit the lens through the fence
so maybe
How is it possible that there are such good photos of the zoo animals?
The largest bird zoo on the Iberian Peninsula has enclosures that I think don't have much fencing, so I might be able to take some good photos.
@grizzled nebula Do you know the largest zoo in Europe (the Carbaceno Zoo)?
At that zoo you can get photos as if you were in the wild.
probably very good photography equipment
no
u should check it
Yes, but by editing my photo I could get a good photo
seems sick
if u have a fence ur camera doesn't have the capabilities to allow u to do that
this was shot through a fence with a 600 F/4
you can still slightly see it
your camera will not be able to hide it
i'll look at it
maybe i'll go one day
by bike?
how the fuck am i going to go to spain from france on a bike
and planes + taxi/public transport exists
if u want
i know
that was at a zoo?
not a zoo but a natural reserve
with fences
But was it an aviary?
there's a section for rescued birds
no
that's nice
So why was there a fence?
you're not allowed to enter it normally but you can get a small view of them
why?
But can't those owls fly?
it's a Rehabilitation center...
cause it barely generated any bokeh
why
i know
DO YOU HAVE ANY PHOTO OF THAT REHABILITATION CENTER?
i might genuinely kill myself
same
OOOH OK
It's because, like before, I asked you if it was an aviary and you said no.
what's the name of that place?
i want to search it on google
because it's not...
it's not on google
why?
why?
An aviary is a large enclosure for confining birds, although bats may also be considered for display. Unlike birdcages, aviaries allow birds a larger living space where they can fly; hence, aviaries are also sometimes known as flight cages in the United Kingdom. Aviaries often contain plants and shrubbery to simulate a natural environment.
because it's a rehab center..
this is all you'll be able to find about it
go ask your daddy grok why it's not an aviary
also the rest of the parc is basically all free animals
they can go out and come in when they want
which is cool
yes
you're not really allowed to keep any animals enclosed in camargue i believe
this huge area is basically a huge open zoo
there's so many animals
(ofc it's not a zoo but it's almost like one cause of how close you can get to animals and how many there are)
that's nice
Hahahahhah
@grizzled nebula I think you should do something that the messages you’re seeing look like this
There’s a block button
Low cortisol if you do this
We have a couple of bird ones here
But not many general wildlife ones
Most of them are just forests
The bird ones are most if not always kingfisher areas
Lucky
Bruh
My photos won't send
There
This is my best location I think
Birding in a city isn't the best but it can be done
Birding in parks is underrated
You may not have so many birds but it’s basically guaranteed you can see selected species that live there and you can get hella close
thanks... I prefer to ignore that comment, but anyway...
i appreciate that...😔
I have a park right next to me
But that's attached to a forest out my window
I hear wrens a lot
I wanted to set up a feeder here when I steal the materials from my DT project
I have a pond in my local park
I need to try that out
Sorry for the loads of pings over the same message I didn't realise lmfao
Idc tbh I have no problem with being pinged
Ate the fish too early
Birds are pretty dumb
they're so inteligent
not everything is working yet
bunch of stuff isnt loading
NOW ITS BACK
beef in #💭・photo-lounge
this is fun ngl
but what happened
he literaly said it in the message..
ahh ok
fuck is that
im going down the list lol
i'll do that one next
one of these is the 180-600 on the z8, the other is the 150-600 c on the d7500
not a great comparison since iso was higher and zoom was different, dx vs fx, will try again tomorrow.
both are great, prob going to keep the 180-600 for quality of life internal zoom, faster af
I love birds
1st one is the Z8?
first one is d7500 150-600 surprisingly
tbh the more i look at it the more i can tell
but the difference in crop is what makes it super difficult
the nose on the first one is slightly soft while it's sharp on the 2nd
that's true. I'll try again tomorrow with both the 150 and 180 on the z8
Honestly makes sense
Whats the best way to sneak up on birds to not disturb them? I know of a rare bird thats always at a small lake here but i dont wanna make it scared but still take pictures. Does walking slowly help?
also yes it does help
The ruby throated hummingbirds in my back yard have been extremely active today
Very big crop, but I kinda like the shot
It just sucks that we’ve had tornadoes here, so the sky’s been cloudy ALL DAY
And since my lens shoots at a minimum aperture of f/8 at 400mm it’s been painful working around it
tornado chasing is also a hobby u could have
This is super nice for 12 and 16x bins
I won't ever buy anything more than 10x (500mm) without stabilization
no
Reed Timmer was less than 30 mins from me
I’ll leave it to him
Lets go i found It 😍 been after this bird for 3 days
Not too bad. Background is ugly tho and wasn't too much Light
looks like you pasted a duck onto a low res video game texture
hooded mergansers r so skittish
Yeah 😂 guess that's not a good thing. Gonna try to fix em better tomorrow. I just used Lightrooms denoise but it's pretty meh
The place is very ugly where it was too. So much branches etc next to the water. Could not get a nice background
Walking slowly decreases your visibility a lot
Yeah i did that! Will remember that tho ty!
Also probably the best way is just wait in a hide. I do not have one so I don’t know what’s best. For sneaking up tho i recommend the most that you approach when the wind comes from the bird’s direction so it has problems hearing you and also smelling you
At my local bird spot where I go to I always have problems getting to sit at one place where I can hide but when I got a windy day I just wait for like a wind gust coming from the birds direction and only move then. I have never had the birds notice me doing this. Except of course when they were behind me or anywhere where the wind was going towards.
EAGLE
Bro he flew past me 4x, absolutely insane
where was that?
this?
Howwww
I have never seen them
Stop using hacks bro

theyre breeding here
Agh
And yeah the swallow are chilling
Yeah well where I live too but they only land in their nests
Oh well tower
Oh nvm I meant swallows
yee
oof, yeah its only a 45 min drive for me
I’m 50km bike trip rn and I already saw like a ton of birds
I saw a heron in a perfect place with reflection but the moment I take the shot it flies away
And I got a moorhen up close
That’s pretty much all
i was at a bird watching tower, saw 15 of finlands biggest birds
Thanks that's good info! Gonna remember that!
Got so close
I’m pissed though th house martins are so hard to get
I have taken like 200 photos of them in just a few mins
show
its in the trunk right now
open the trunk
i can show you in 45 mins

im on my way to a photography shop to get a plate
how tf did u get such a good deal
That's 6x less than normal price holy
ur from germany right?
buy another one and sell it to me
won't even need to pay for import fees 🔥
ooo wait
for 240
wimberly WH-200 II for 240 wow
comes witha tripod too
wait wtf
this is an insane deal
the tripod is a Benro c-397
yes 1000%. They seem to see me get out of my car at the lake from like 100 yards away
i doubt u know much about it but is the BENRO C-397 M8 good?
never tried one but it looks good and benro makes great products
wimberly WH-200 II also extremely good i imagine
i might have to buy icl
First Egyptian geese with 600mm
cause 240 euros for that kit is a joke
is that a gimbal
555 reviews and 5 stars is a good sign to me
lol
i just have a sirui gimbal head and its good 'nuff
how do i keep finding such insane deals
ya 240 euro for that is a steal
head + tripod
$1200 tripod setup
Im a fluid head enjoyer now
i dont use my gimbal much
now
its a lot bigger and about the same weight and I dont like how it locks out
always creeps
could just be my cheap gimbal tho
crow probs being a prick
Yeah
No
Crow was drinking and then the coot attacked
LOL
lmao
attack of the coots...
Ive seen a pair of crows attack a monkey
Nice
i've seen 3 magpies attack a baby heron
poor little guy
couldn't take a video or pic of the attack cause i was trying to find a better angle when they arrived
could be worse bro we have these jungle red ants the size of my thumbnail that like to colonize low hanging branches
GOOD LUCK if you walk through one of those branches without paying attention
and also cobras... better to just stick to the trails and watch where you're walking 😭
Not afraid of snakes
I have tried to find rattlesnakes for like all the time I was in the USA
Not a single one
I walked through tall grass while fishing and even there nothing
uh yeah im not irrationally afraid of snakes either
ill pick up non-venomous snakes
but im in a country with cobras and no access to antivenom
so yeah i dont want to die
where are u?
philippines
in the province
i live here half the year
saw some sick birds today but was mostly just spotting, not sure if any of the pictures were any good
i will cull and edit tomorrow
damn philippines is insane for birding
yeah i mostly stay local because my wife works a lot
but even in our province i think ive seen 100+ species
I want to start getting around the country more and finding good local guides
even has the box
get it
240 is great
@grizzled nebula
nice shot
good tripod included aswell 👀
the one i found looks in better condition than urs lol
tbh it is newer
so expected
So yeah, just did a quick look and no great pics, as expected. I did run into this guy though in the woods, and I think he was about 5 seconds from attacking me
near my apartment
he had a bunch of babies with him, which is probably why he was not happy I was there
Macaques are no joke anyways, theyll 100% attack you if you try to mess with them
basically most monkeys
do macaques count as monkeys?
yeah they do stupid question
yup
*pijon *
yeah dont even think just buy it
pigon
Egyptian goose tweaking
This is actually the river that’s closest to me but way further downstream, almost where it merges with the Danube
actually insane lmao
I wish I had more mp ngl
you can see the blood vessels in its beak LMAO
Frame filling bif shot
💀
Yeah this is insane
That shots perfect
not even edited yet, just sharpened a bit
everytime i see a swallow it's flying too high up
Yeah theyre breeding in that tower so theyre just there the whole time
I got my best raptor pics so far today
Insane
Best bif pics too
Getting up at 5 50 am was so worth it holy shit
@fast knoll how do you get so many pelegrines?
he has a breeding spot
but where do u live?
HOW
yea but how did u get that?
The bird was very close
Nonono
ahh ok
i was forgoting he uses a lens
because i'm very used to my camera
ok ok ok
2.4m
wow, awesome
sony 200-600
I know a place where swallows are usually seen, but to take a picture, should I wait in the same spot without moving or try to get closer?
tried everything to try removing this ballhead for my tripod but it's not even moving
won't even be able to resell it
ballhead?
learn to use google
I don't know if I could somehow earn 3000 euros online to buy the camera.
i don't understand why it's so stuck
what
I have the opposite issue lmao
Tried pliers?
Actually no that'll ruin it
tighten the all the knobs, pull out all three screws under the head, and unscrew the ball head from the tripod
yes
idc
Try heat it up a bit
i'm getting a gimbal head
Damn
Does the ball head have a little groove so you can tilt it 90 degrees
i could've gotten closer to this robin lol
Yeah 1.2m at 500mm is pretty sick ngl
how?
this is the useless thing
Yeah
it has it
good
put it like this
tighten the lower knob as hard as you can
Twist it by using the mount as a lever
Is it possible to focus with a 500mm lens at 1.2m?
i did
With his ye, thats what he just said
it literally doesn't even move 1mm
that's pretty impressive
San Diego has a known nesting spot that attracts hundreds of photographers every year
I happen to live 10 mins away
close to min focus distance
weird
could have probably gotten even a little closer there
you sure its screwed in only with 1 screw
what tripod is it stuck on and did you put it on yourself
yes it just screws into the bar
it's stuck on the benro TMA28A and yes i put it on myself
i bought it for 16 euros
used
ah, wouldve said maybe the person before put loctite on it
heating it miiight work, doubt it tho
What does it have?
i might just have to saw it off
Peregrine falcons
i really want to go to san diego someday
it was 21 euros actually
naaah
USA in general
good condition my ass
how are you gonna put on the next head if you saw it off lmao
well the gimbal i found comes with a tripod
600 euros gimbal + 900 euros tripod (when it was released) for 240 euros 🔥
Ohhhh
fuck that old tripod then, just put it into your closet and forget about it
Sick
if ur interested it's a wimberly WH 200 II and a BENRO c-397 M8 carbon
ok imma try hitting it with a hammer and if it doesn't work i give up
i want to be able to sell the tripod
lmao
Niice
LMAO
What tripod is it on
Just culled through 1100 photos from today
Left with around 100 lmao
prolly like 20 actually sick shots
Eh, I'm happy with the result
Number of good shot per total shot amount is a meaningless metric imo
i have 3100 waiting..
My metric is number of good shot per session
I took 5000 pics yesterday gonna do a culling stream later today 👀
By trying to get it off?
Well at least you don't have to worry about getting the ballhead off now
Heron from yesterday
oof
that's quite nice!
Thanks
Gotta find a new place, I can't freely go out the pathways and it is becoming very frustrating
managed to fix the ripod smh
how did you break that lol
took off one of the leg sections cause there was a bit of water in it and the little plastic thing that holds it in broke
managed to tape it back together
i finally got around to restocking the bird feeders
pretty much everything was empty and the fat balls were covered in mold or something since its been raining a lot
waiting for the guy to reply for the wimberly head and benro tripod kit
I saw around 30 herons today
I didn’t get a single one while sitting
I got baby swans and geese though
Herons aren't very common where I go, storks and egrets on the other hand...
They are nesting meters away from the road lol
so lucky
going to a new place tomorrow
what place
a river
what river
and a lake
what lake and what river
a not famous lake or river
Taking photos in rivers is quite difficult.
idk
if you go to a river
you should photograph at the river
at least that's what i think
idk
yeah at the river not in
ups
In and at are different things lmfao
i know
Sometimes I get confused about that
Ok fair
i understood what he said in the first place but i wanna troll
Underwater bird photography
well
you can do it
WAIT
Is there any underwater photo of a kingfisher hunting?
Quite a few yes
Yep
waterproof housing?
how are u gonna do that
i think you can't breath underwater
are you legit dumb
bro sometimes i wonder if ur ragebaiting
no
if u go underwater to photograph you'll most definitely have swimming equipment
or you can also use an external device
obviously
It probably took them 3 months to get that photo
or more
We don't know
No, it probably took 1/4000 seconds
yea
But I'm referring to the time they were there.
Lmfao
what's diff t stop??
I guess since settings and environment were the same
was gonna say lol
the T stop is about 7.9 on the 150-600
What is tstop lol
I always hear it
Mostly on cinema lense
light transmition
basically at F/6.3 the 150-600 is a F/7.9 in terms of the light it lets in
i believe that's how it works
the 180-600 has better light transmition and is much closer to 6.3
the 150-600 is actually darker than the 100-500
my 600 F/4 is a 600 F/4.5 technically
Now I want to do another comparison at 400mm & f/6.3
nice
Ahah he has a little crest lol
Im having fun with these blue tits
I kinda want rain rn
These blue tit pics cant get much sharper than that
Ofc i sent one with motion blur lol
I hope to get a picture of a great tit with my feeder
u can find birds
maybe in the local park
u can find some ducks/geese
@grizzled nebula I don't know if I asked you this, but did you have a bird feeder?
🌧️

Now only sound:
35. Common cuckoo
36. Long tailed tit
37. European robin
38. Eurasian blackcap
And also 39. A gull but I can’t identify it
what's all that?
The birds I saw or heard today
how do know so many birds only by it's sound?
Because many are easy to do by sound once you get the hang of it and there are apps
i have a lot of goldfinches near my house
but none of them come to my teasel
i want to get a picture like this
Me too lol
Do you live in a country house or an apartment?
Country house
But I’m in a hotel kinda thing rn
so sharp even with the 1.4x tc
Well, I recommend you get some somewhere; you can Google a place that sells dried thistle, put it on the wall or at home, wherever, sprinkle niger seed on top and you're done.
or search it yourself
yummy

this is a big crop btw
i have a small feeder
my neighbour has his entire garden made for birds
u could do smth like this
what do y'all think, is it okay to expand this with gen ai
literally 2mm of the wing are clipped
eh why not
i think this will be the final edit
Nah
I just want a nice close up
If goldfinches
i might go brighter rn the eye blends in with the black markings
nice
I just saw 6 of the chaps in a tree
The cute chaps
Like 10cm away from me
And I didn't have my camera
Waiting for a birb to land on the roof
1
Thought the vertical one was kinda cool because of the plants
but ye I like horizontal more too I think
I am more confused after the 400mm @ 6.3 test. I think the sun spot saved the 150 lol (poor sparrow with a bum foot)
Ykw i actually prefer 2
Up to 2500 iso rn
At f5.6
Getting dark
Lost brain function for a sec lol
Couldnt find the af on button
lmaoo alright, thats what my gf said too
oof thats VERY dark
Still decently sharp
4k iso now
When i have to go past 8k iso ill stop
3200 iso (sent from phone)
Im at 6400 iso now
Gonna get rough i think
what's the readout speed on r6ii for eshutter?
Sedge warbler
Ohhh
I heard one the other day
And saw
But was away so fast
No pics
14ms
culling stream is live go watch me delete pictures slowly
lmao
not often
imagine shooting 5.6
ALRIGHT GUYS
Done editing for today
Got so many absolute bangers, I never got this many keepers in 1 day before
White tailed eagle flew basically infront of the sun, was lowkey hard to recover but worked better than I wouldve thought
Yeah, theyre one of the main reasons I went there today
Nice, really nice
they look great but I like the one with raized hair most I think
i got a very sharp one of him earlier
this looks so good
what was your setup and distance?
R6II + EF 600MM F/4 IS II USM + 1.4x TC III
was probably at 6 or 7m
mohawk!
looool
Here I am editing monkeys instead of birbs 🙁
lol im editing grad photos
it's nice how active this forum is now
it's been ages since i've taken a photo of a small bird
a few weeks ago it was pretty dead
need to do it more
very rewarding but difficult
with the 600 is so hard
Like @tough hull tried! we should make #1015723225033998386 active!
Was the birb channel dead really? can't imagine lol ever since i discovered it I find it active
it's been active for a few months now
maybe a few messages every day
upvote my birb 🥺
lowkey u talk here so much u brought it back
thank you legend!

u improved a lot too
yh i like this chanel
i remember when u had ur r6ii and 100-500 and all ur photos were like extremely wide shots
nothing wrong with that
but i was like he can def do better with that setup
Ever heard of the monkey bird?
then u got better
He ready to jump and fly i guess xD
the problem with where i live is there so much dense vegetation that getting close to birds is really really difficult unfortunately but since i've started birding i've discovered new places so now i get better opportunities to get close
yea honestly birding is mostly location diff lol
this is my first ever small bird photo that's not a sparrow
we need anti in here more
antti is so peak
fr
i havent had time to go out for the past couple of days
fr
and from tomorrow morning onwards its going to be cloudy
it's been cloudy all day today
should be raining tomorrow
could get some nice shots with the rain tho
My phone cooked
Yes
fahh
What would you guys say is a good camo net size
Big
i was thinking something like 1.5x4m
more blue tits
with a spider '-'
Ye should be fine
hmmm I should use my hide again
Not sure where tho
I need to build myself a feeder spot
Yah idk to be honest
If you mean what is infront of you it should just make you disappear behind it so it should rather be too big than too small
Zoo Birb
yea lovely birb! outside zoo's they don't live here unfortunately 🙁
biblically correct swallow
Forgot to edit my screaming robin
Should I keep a microfiber towel and some glass cleaner in my pockets for the zoo
are u expecting em to throw poop at you
Anything can happen 🤷♂️
I was just thinking
I have 2 good bird photos
In total
Am I just not applying myself enough
Try turning the head sideways into the notch, locking it up, then put a long arca plate on it
I tried everything tbh and it doesnt even moving 1mm
I locked it as much as i could and when i apply as much force as i can it starts moving again
Also i dont have an arca swiss plate
(Not risking my lens foot)
O
Did you end up buying that benro and head?
tomorrow probably
waiting for a reply from the seller
I hope you get it
it's still a kewl birb
i'm trying different crops
this is 1.5mp btw
smh made it look slightly less cropped in by making it softer...
idk bout this
i need 2x tc so i can do this without crop
increased exposure and added some green back
I feel like this one is overly exposed vs the earlier ones #🦀・creatures message
i mean those were kinda underexposed but i'll lover exposure ig
is this better?
aarvs when will u win a comp
we have some everywhere here
got some nesting in my garden
I won a photography comp my local camera store held and got a $20 gift card that's not enough to buy anything in the store but I can tell ppl I'm an award winning photographer now
I'm too lazy to enter competitions and a lotta photo competitions u have to pay to enter too
so I only enter PL contests
lol i got second in a local bird comp
this was the winner
the theme was "bird behavior"
any award?
no just a $25 gift card for a bird merch store
i'll take it tho
they have some cool stuff
I spent like $200 at bird collective
got 4 shirts and a nalgine bottle
that prize is better than $20 at a camera store
lmk what u get
they need to release a california condor t shirt
My Lowe’s had a sale on Audubon society branded bird seed today
So I bought two bags of peanuts and 3 bags of sunflower seeds bc they didn’t have the big bags of them🤤
I have seen two gray herons today so far and one common merganser which could have been such a good panning shot but i didn’t have my camera ready
yeah, and probably thistles are the best way to get them into your house
the photo itself is not bad
try getting only the wall and not the window or whatever it is on the left
yep
Love the top left one 🤩
Yo @grizzled nebula I almost got to min focal distance with a heron finally
Just a headshot because it was at a dam
Next to road that’s why I got so close it only got scared after like 30seconds and ran away, didn’t fly and it went back after I backed up
done!
wish I had a closer min focus distance I could do bird macro on the chill boardwalk birds
this one is really nice
ooh sick
And same lmao
I only saw barn swallows at the spot where I was yesterday
