So excited today to go at the falconry and see Rosbeef flying
Stfu it's morning
My brain is not really braining lmao
shush you dont see anything
yeah and the background was really close to the subject
nah actually its because i dont have an 600 f4 trust
i shot jpg and raw
now only raw
get one
they're cheap
Ahh
Yeah good

a crow here would have been perfect
Just put on a costume and play the crow urself
Send me the raw I can dxo it for you
If you poor and have no editing software
Omg there like no noise it’s perfect
need help!! which one is better
Not a fan of removals that change how a photo can be described
id say second if it were possible to remove all the darker birds save for the one right behind it, would be cool juxtaposition, but with that overlap of the one behind, it's not worth it imo
But without context, 1 is better
yeah the birds in the back make a kind of cool "story" imo, everyone doing its own thing
but at the same time they are distracting to the eye
im just gonna duplicate it and keep 1 with them and 1 without
same swan was in the same spot today ❤️
Results from the quick birding outing from yesterday
Whopper 🍔
Well I personally would say number 1 because the swan is not really in focus and the geese make it more visible for me
Don't we all
don't we all what
Oh
Don't we all
No fuck
Ok I'm too tired for this
they're decently priced on nikon
but even on nikon you ain't getting a good one/one of the level of mine for the price i got it for
yh but that's the old mid versions
Oh I see
they should still be usable
I wouldnt see why they wouldn't be
they will just have old coatings and outdated autofocus
but IQ should still be very good
this is the one killian has and it's actually very well priced
I see
Rosbeef being impatient
yeah it's kinda funny x)
typical crow
real
thanks
boop
Northern pintail?
Yes
i would ask grok
wow, awesome photo
Are you editing it in Darktable?
why? 😭
Yes
Well, I have it installed but I find it impossible to make the masks correctly 😭
I have no idea how to use masks yet
so what do you edit?
That’s classified information I cannot give you cough cough
Updated the feeder now it's lopsided
I seriously hope this doesn't fall
Also needing to swap the feed out for the summer as you aren't meant to use nuts and seeds
I have to buy these now because apparently during the summer birds need protein
And you are spreading a desiese if you aren't
I've had two bird feeders for a week and not a single bird has come yet. 😭 😭 😭
please help

Move the feeder
Birds probably don't see it
What feed are you using
I can't move it 😭
I showed it in the chat but I'll send it again, just a moment.
This one is for goldfinches.
@naive fiber
They have to see it, literally up on the building in front of me, at the very top on the roof tiles there are usually sparrows.
If you want, I can show you a picture so you can help me better.
Do you have a tree nearby?
no...
well yes
Not in my house, but I do have some around
@naive fiber
They probably can't see the food that well
Try put out bigger chunks
Or more in general
wdym?
more what?
I don't know if it's a good idea, but maybe I could put an apple on the wooden base. But if it rains and it goes bad, does that matter?
@magic crown 👀
how do you do that?
eBird transforms your bird sightings into science and conservation. Plan trips, find birds, track your lists, explore range maps and bird migration—all free.
ok
They wont eat an apple
so what do i do
Place things like seeds, nuts, mealworms on the floor/around the feeder
It should te them to realise that there is food there
Should I put chicken feed in the wooden structure?
If it's unfortified sure
If it is you can cause kidney damage
this might be below 1mp
wdym by unfortified?
why
Is this like 200% 😭
Still looks pretty decent though
?
It looks fine from a distance
No added minerals
I don't think it has
But is there any way to increase the quality of an image?
maybe, yes
It doesn't work like
Jarvis enhance
It fills in detail with fake detail
Which usually looks quite bad
That is still too much for instagram lmao
swan yesterday
earth
finland like 2km from my home
not bad
the swan has been at the same spot at the same time for 3 days
wow
it is always so close to the road just posing
is the fake light too strong on the 1st pic
hmm, no
i don't think so
Niiice
Swan swam
Swamming swan
Woah it drank the water
I'd say the area where I put the feeder is similar to yours. Do you recommend any specific food to attract them better?
I have a nest very close by
And bluetits learn very quickly and are also pretty adventurous
My food is less than optimal currently so not really
Maybe I could put in black sunflower seeds
nah i think it's a snake
yh probs a snake
O snap
I think the composition is well done. The angle could have been better. The tangent with the horizon and the swans beak and neck is personally throwing me off. But thats a personal gripe
I assume the lighting is natural as in overcast with the sun peaking out which gives those nice warm spots. I would have faked some rays to sell it. It looks a bit too forced otherwise with the warm and cool tones on the subject. Idk it's hard to say. I do like the separation with the background, i think pulling it back and desaturating it works reall well. The contrast in the pops of colours on the swan and the dark forest is really nice.
If possible the crop can be adjusted to show more water than forest. The large mass could be reduced IMO.
Otherwise the picture looks great, all of this comes out if you nit-pick.
SOOC
I need to do some research on this back background stuff it looks great
Subject is in the light and the background is dark/hidden by shadows of trees and bushes
It’s was overcast so the light is soft
I think I used -2 on my exposure compensation because otherwise the camera will expose for the entire image rather than my subject
I’ll upload a few edits in #🦀・creatures shortly
This gives you an idea of the light that day
no bird within 0,5km of me it seems

im sitting at my usual spot but no birds want to go near me
should i try to relocate?
Thanks
yes
back to camargue on tuesday

spoonbiils have arrived so i can't wait
bee eaters too
o
You aint gonna get loads of pics if you always stay at the same place
o
I think I'll go photograph birds at the river today and see what I find...
Gl
whenever i go somewhere the birds notice me, fly off and never come back

Smalls birds arent easy to take pics of
I need to clean my window and set my tripod up again today
Some birds just aren't so photogenic though
This one was very vocal
what do they eat?
Basically everything nut or protein related
like what?
Currently I have pecans walnuts and deshelled sunflower seeds
Fuck that shit, I am buying a 200-600
nice
Does Finland have many whopper swans?
I have never seen one in my life
Wait what’s that
True
Don’t you already have one?
Do you have any tips for photographing birds on the river?
What kind of birds
The Fragas do Eume Natural Park (Galicia) is home to more than 100 bird species, with forest birds and birds of prey being particularly prominent in its Atlantic canyon. The most notable species include the griffon vulture, goshawk, sparrowhawk, eagle owl, great grey shrike, green woodpecker, Eurasian nuthatch, and kingfisher, with early morning observation being the best.
Featured Birds in Fragas do Eume:
Raptors: Goshawk, sparrowhawk, peregrine falcon, griffon vulture (visible in summer), and the Eurasian eagle owl, which inhabits the rocky cliffs.
Forest Birds (Oak Groves/Woodland): Common crossbill, Eurasian nuthatch, Iberian chiffchaff, great grey shrike, woodlark, green woodpecker.
River Birds: European dipper and common kingfisher.
The Fragas do Eume are considered one of the best-preserved Atlantic riparian forests in Europe, providing a rich habitat for biodiversity.
@tough hull
Well you wanna get them in the water or flying around there or sitting on branches
Because for flying idk how to get proper shots if it’s not when they are taking off or landing
yes
Which one
both
nope, 70-350
What camera?
a6700
Yup and cheap too
Who doesn't lol
To be fair, it weights and costs as much a truck
Yeah
Or f8 idk
Imagine pairing that lens with a crop sensor camera
1800mm
kestrel holding a snake i think
At this point, atmospheric haze would just negate any advantage of the focal range
Ok. Looked like it had a tail lmao
Not if you get close enough
Oh yeah put a macro adapter on and you’ll see the cells of the bird
Minimal focus distance has to be huge too
taken with 600 F/4 🙂
it's not too bad iirc
eh 2.4m
worse than i thought
100-500 is 0.8m at 100mm and 1.2m at 500mm
but like for wildlife 2.4m is nothing
I was half considering the Sigma 500mm 5.6 some times ago, but more than 3m for minimal focus range is a show stopper
4.3 at 1200mm f8 lens
Very close birds are more common than I expected when I started this hobby
uncropped 4.3m min focus distance
i could've goten closer but there would've been stuff in the way
that was maybe 6-7m away
I take a picture of any bird I see, no matter what condition it's in.
idk
But it’s 600mm not 500mm
Insane scenary
200-600 is 600mm..
At water, you need a telephoto if you cat get close
i'm just showing that 2.4m is nothing for wildlife
It was bout this
oh yh also
I heard online it was actually 560mm, but it might be wrong
but like 3m is not bad either
it is at min focus distance
but it gets closer to 600mm the further you get from your subject
right
Huh
100-500 can do some sort of macro
it's weird but it's also true
Wait I got a nice shot of an endangered flower recently
a 600mm F/4 will look more zoomed in than a 200-600
K
That's a bigger difference than I expected
icl canon should've made the body longer for aesthetic reasons cause that long tube looks so weird
?
I need to get a prime
Holy tha explains why my 50mm doesn’t look much different than 70mm on 70-300
wdym by that?
he's saying that when there's water and you can't get close u need a telephoto lens
yeah but i have a compact camera
get a good one then 🙂
you have 720mm on ur cam but the quality is awful at that focal length
yea but sometimes i get good photos
Should I do “retro” bird photography with my camcorder?
what's retro?
Old aka low quality style whatever idk
Not low quality
But my cam is
but your camera is good
Not my camcorder
it's less visible on smaller lenses than telephoto
also primes have better light transmission
It has 1200mm ff equivalent lens though
so a 500 F/4 prime at F/7.1 will be able to be at 1/1600s and get the same light as a 100-500 at F/7.1 at 1/1000s

?
that's mostly to do with lens design but primes are made better for this
talking to eric
ok
Hell yeah I got wind from front and I can see a shelduck
That thing won’t see me coming
Broo
I was so close
About to take a photo
But a couple of hikers went by and the shelduck got scared
And I couldn’t get it
All my hotspots are ducks lmao
Alright
In reach again
Just need to get through the grass without the duck noticing
It needs to look away from me
Because I can tell it’s on alert or whatever you say
Stupid grass go away
BRO WTF
SOMEONE IS SPYING ON ME WITH A DRONE
AND I am 100% sure they saw me because they circled me and then I gave hand signals so they move tf away and not scare the duck
they fly by my house and stay for a few weeks every fall and spring
Nice
Why do you call that spying xd just someone flying around a nice place
Annoying for sure but i doubt they target you big time. Or im wrong and they want to steal your camera
I think they think I’m spying
Because the shelduck is in the middle of me and the village
So I point in direction of houses
My phone can see the duck
the RWBLs pose in the first photo is awesome
nice photo!
Thx
What kind of duck is it?
out of focus?
But I got something a lot better now
Yes
And I just found their nest
Some crows attacked them
average crow behaviour
They only attacked one though
And then the kestrel struck and the crows left it alone
Never seen this color on a kestrel before
looks normal to me
just the lighting
No it wasn’t brown
I didn’t only take pics
I also watched it
Eric, do you go out with any kind of camo. Either a camera sleeve or clothes etc. or do you think it doesn't really matter when shooting birds of prey?
I think it does but it depends on your terrain
Because on a flat meadow it doesn’t mstter
they're like this here for me
For me they are very dark usually
Ok
Shutter speed ☹️
No I'll send the full Res in a sec
The wing is blurry
Aperture actually but still
Ok now that I’m home I can do further explanation. I think if your camera had like colors that really don’t fit in the environment it may be a problem, but only if you are fitting in, otherwise it’s you that is too visible. I haven’t tried it out myself yet with camo though
When you don't pay attention to the settings
Same
My shot could be sharp if aperture would be f11
unfortunate
my shots are razor sharp at F/4
i think u meant more in focus
Yeah
Btw you use a tripod or how the heck you holding that giant lens so steady
i almost never use a tripod
IS helps
i'm also always at 1/1000 or more
well pretty much always
i sometimes go up to 1/5000 for small birds
What I mean is getting the bird in frame and holding it because usually they move hella unpredictable and go to the sides and stuff and handheld I’m struggling to counter that
I usually go as high as situation allows except if I wanna get motion blurred background
And I mean I use 1/2000 and if I don’t have to push my iso up much I go up until my iso is at 1000 or something
Because yes I have had days where I was able to use 1/8000
Eh... not my best bird in flight but could have been worse
Why does it look so soft?
You can push iso to like 6400 or higher if the bird is big enough in the frame
Yeah that’s the thing flying birds are too far away for 99% of the shots
And 1/2000 is usually enough
fr
Yeah, getting bif shots close up is hard
yea
when I bring out newspaper before i cant bring anything but my cam which i did today
BUT MY DUMB AH FORGOT THAT CAP ON CAM WASNT ON AND TOUCHED THE SENSOR AND HAD NO CLEANING KIT WITH HIM
at least i can remove it
Dang your lens has some issues I can see. If you just send it to me I'll fix it for you

also u just made me notice this shit
i just put the defringe slider to the max without adjusting properly cause i couldn't be arsed
Bruh why do you have your cam sitting around with nothing covering the sensor LMAO
I cant fit my cam with lens in the bag and I was on a call while preparing my stuff, grabbed my lens put it in the bag after I put the back cap on and I forgot the cap on the camera and grabbed in it
Wrong order of operations
When taking cam off lens
- Camera body immediately gets set facing down if the cap isn't in hand
- Still facing down, raise up and cap it
- Cap lens

my lens is more important than my body
Your lens can be cleaned much easier
damn bruh if i touched the sensor my soul would leave my body
touching my 600 F/4's front element makes me wanna harm myself
it's not easy to clean either
yea it's scary
im afraid of dragging a dust particle on the lens when im using a microfiber cloth
prob harmless but im paranoid
whats the command again?
!touch
holy shit first try
oh my
ced activities
Guess what I do 99% of time
But as I said
I was in a call
Same
If my body breaks I can get a cheaper one earlier than a new lens
There is a reason why I put protection filters on my lenses
I am often walking through dust
I don’t want that on my lens
Find me a 150mm protection filter
I carry a spray bottle of distilled water
Rocket air blaster, distilled water, and a pack of micro fiber cleaning ezpz for lens
Indiana
rare?
100-500 is goated
this was a young heron i saw in the campsite at the bottom of my street
got chased by magpies 💔
Damn right it’s f4
also no way im dropping 13k on a lens just to limit its peak sharpness by adding a filter
lens hood is good enough for me
Who says sharpness gets affected
You gotta get a good filter
uhh like most photographers
i mean it wasn't 12K
i find 7.1 at 500mm is p slow
it's brighter than the tamron 150-500 and sigma 150-600 i believe
i have a protection filter stuck on my 100-500 :/
150-500 for E is 6.7
yh but the T stop is worse
fair
all these nonsense and still 600/4 clears
100-500 is a nice landsxape lens actually
24-105 + 100-500
the 150-500 ngl is a pretty ass lens
damn what happened
i agree
that's a big con
but it's still quite usable
modern cameras and denoise
nice backgrounds too sometimes lol
The tamron 150-600 has a t-stop of 7.9
what the fuck lol
idk it just won't come off
Lmao Ive been using the same micro fiber cloth for months now
putting a uv filter on your tele is retarded
Its stupid even with small lenses unless you film dirt bikes in the desert or something, but with a tele itll fuck up your quality even more
Lmao
The sharpness is pretty mid past 550mm and the AF is rather slow
I wanna get rid of mine for the RF 100-500
birds spotted
do i take my uv filter off?
@naive fiber When it rains, do you leave the bird food in your feeder or do you change it?
yh
the 100-500 is brighter, sharper and has much better AF
I take the feeder down usually
Birds don't come when it rains
I don't want to deal with wasting food
chaffinches have found my feeders
they kept coming in the last 2 weeks or so
never seen them before that
and now that spring is here birds are way more common
i get some like every 5-10 minutes
Aww
I need to work out when the fuck I'll start attracting other birds apart from bluetits and great tits
I get blue tits, great tits, chaffinches, European robins, doves, crows, sparrows
I know that, but if I leave the seeds wet for too long they can get parasites and bacteria and become poison instead of food. 💀
I've never taken pictures of birds in flight, but it seems difficult because you have to follow the bird with the camera very quickly.
Howw?
Could you give me a list of the food you use?
yeah thats why you clean the feeder
yes
At the moment, two sparrows are coming very close to the feeder because I spilled some feed on the ground, but so far they haven't eaten from the feeder, I don't know why; they're supposed to have a good sense of smell and all that.
I don't know if any birds other than sparrows will come to the feeder; it's possible that goldfinches will come in a month or so when I put the thistles in, but for now I doubt anything else will come.
hmm maybe
The feeder is among the ivy; they should like that.
I put out two feeders, one that looks good and has a water bowl that they haven't used yet, but I hope they'll end up coming next week.
@green canyon
Sunflower hearts, dried larvae and peanuts
crows prefer walnuts though
So many birds in so few feeders, impressive.
opposite
they hate bushes
Even if I do the same as you, they probably won't come to me. I think those birds are around here, but they've never been near my house or close by.
really?
I have no predators in the ivy
But do you think they'll be able to get used to it?
I say this because those sparrows are the same ones that are always hidden among a pile of tall grass.
But the other feeder I have, I'm sure it will.
this one
If I put thistles on the ivy and the goldfinches go there, will they still go to the feeder?
um
birds here almost exclusively go into bushes
yes
@green canyon do u have a photo of a bird in your feeder?
In my experience they dislike feeders near bushes
i can try to take one but not right now
i should maybe clarify i dont mean small bushes
like knee height
more like 2m bushes
oh yes thats fine yeah
ok
Well, my ivy must be about 2 meters tall or something like that.
also sparrows are primarily ground-feeding birds, they will go to feeders eventually if there's nothing else but they prefer the ground
all you should need to really do is once you have your feeders set up, just leave them in the same spot and be consistent with filling them
once they realize its a static spot for food, they will come. and once you attract a few, you attract many
yep
But I prefer not to fill it completely because if the seeds spoil, it's wasted food.
you can get no waste seed, hull-less. but also seed takes a long time to spoil, even with rain. as long as you don't see mold its ok
can always start with a little then increase as your population grows
oh ok
There are usually 10 or 20 sparrows in the grass next to my house. I don't know if they'll ever come; so far only 2 have come.
they will 🙂 just need to be consistent
yep
There are goldfinches near my house, but not very close. If I put out some dried thistles, do you think they'll come soon?
yes they love thistle, but also do you have chickadees in your area? if you do, they will help. they call other birds when they find a food source
Swallows are so difficult to track
they so are. i found a bridge of them and i still don't want to look at the photos because im sure i got 0 / 500
yes
took long enough to take this
shame that the background is a house
I will try to make that less colourful
@analog rivet do u have any bird photo with your z6 III?
if you make it more blurry and shift it towards yellow it might look like a sunset
I could try that
bros on a movie set
its all i shoot birds with mainly
outside a few rare cases of dslr birding
btw lens > body
Yeah you obsess over the body a lot, tbh body doesn't matter all too much
Obviously like a budget 15y old body is much worse than a current gen flagship
But say a 4y difference usually doesn't matter all to much body wise
also z6iii is good lol
It's a great body yeah
yuh
the way i photographed swallows was i looked for a point where they were landing and flying off of, and then waited until one got close and then took photos in burdt lol
Z6III wont give good bird shots when you only got a wide angle
if youre getting a z6iii the equivalent lens in that price point is prob the 180-600
?
wdym by wide angle?
can you show some of them?
everything up to like idk 50mm someting although 50mm is already zoomed in a lot
But the Z6 III is one of the best cameras available for birds and astrophotography.
i think
randoms shots from my folder
but all z6iii and g1 150-600
wow, pretty good quality
But are you still using the Z6 III or are you using the Z7 now?
z6iii still, z7 isnt here yet
and actually neither is the z6iii, had to send it for repairs
using the d7200 for the time being
And you recommend I buy a used Z6 III? @analog rivet
id always argue for used unless you can find new for the same price
i paid $2k for mine brand new non grey market
But could a used camera have a faulty sensor?
VERY low chance
chance so low that its not even worth worrying about
nice
I found the body of the Z6 III for 719 euros/dollars
aah no
this is the z6 II
There are more worries than a faulty sensor
yep
phone cam so ahh why didnt i take my camera with me
this like the perfect moment 2 crows kissing or idk
could you not
😭
Heavy crop on phone
Demon goose (mini)
gonna try to get some better ones tomorrow
my gallery pic got gallery picked
"Bruh"
saw one get attacked by a pigeon but missed it
spotted towhee!
theyre loud
hopefully u can't tell i missed focus
i can but still nice
sharp
2 more days until i get to take pics of bee eaters and spoonbills!
well 1 if you're already counting monday as today
i see
One more pop edit, and this shot I caught as these ducks moved from one pond to another. Thought it looked cute at the time c:
Feedback appreciated on the second one. Do you think the lighting is a bit much? I pushed things to make it seem more like a scene than a photograph, if that makes sense
todays birds
Second to last is my fav
insane amount of tree swallows today
oo
my tree swallow photos turned out bad today
i need a better spot
these birds always just hit such nice poses in the trees
great for photos
That's not that bad for a teleprime
600's are all >4m
lol
Apparently a flock of Glossy Ibis flew in right after I left this morning

Maybe they'll still be around tomorrow morning....
pretty cloudy but better than rain
o
ive never seen an iris before
iibis
Only the 4th ever spring-time record of them in this state
💀
And I missed it by an hour
Maybe tomorrow 🤞
One question: how do you photograph birds in flight that fly very fast? Do you put the camera on a tripod and follow it, but it's still difficult to keep track of it with the camera?
I've never seen a hummingbird in my life. Are they as common in America as sparrows are here?
wow
In Europe, I don't know if there are any birds that we only have here and not in America.
Perhaps the hoopoe?
handheld is easier
handheld + dotsight
some people in this server absolutely hates on dotsights but once you use it, you cant go back
@spring vault you have a dotsight right
i just handhold even at 1200mm
up tp about 600mm it should be pretty easy with a few hours of total practice
practice keeping your eye on the subject and bringing the viewfinder straight up to your eye while still tracking the bird
thats not why i use a dot sight tbh
its the fact that theres delay + fov is reduced at 600mm or wtv super tele
and tracking a bird with a dotsight is alot easier esp if the bird is fast
like if you are asking me to photograph big birds in flight like eagles or storks its not hard
try kingfisher dives or flycatchers, practically impossible
i mean yeah some are hard but i can get swifts/swallows with 600. not sure a dot sight would really help since i wouldnt be seeing where the AF is
It’s a fire photo. Normally sky photos are meh but the conditions are incredible
keeno!!
You got nice weather, nice sunet and very nice camera
tomorrow i'm going to camargue and i hope i'll finally be able to get some nice sunset photography
🙂
i need to re edit this
cause this edit is quite shit
oh well no swallows today
better edit
we dont have any in europe
theyre so cute 😭
i just saw a dunnock in my garden
have seen that one before either
too poor for z6iii bro
a7v when
just get Z50ii now then
get a cam with precap
raw precap or no shoot 🔥
ill switch one day
but a6700 + 200-600 is still great
alright im getting it now
gotta drive all the way to cologne though
ugh
1440 for it and the sigma 18-50
wait no
let me recalculate
1480
but thats without trading in my Zve10
and im selling old gear
viewfinder gonna be so nice
that seems like a pretty nice deal
yeah it really is
if i were to sell the sigma lens (which i wont because i need it to replace my kit lens lol), it'd be 1000
so cheap
kit lence fahhh 💔
damn congrats tho (im jealous)
(im lwk running a kit lence)
Siggy 18-50 is great, I love it
will definitely help me with milky way shots
less noisy sensor, less vignette, less distortion, better sharpness and f/2.8 thus lower iso
robin
they have the american robin but they are completely unrelated
they look nothing alike apart from colours
the swallows actually came back but a bit later than yesterday
should've brought the 600 cause i was at 8000 iso F/7.1 and that was still not correctly exposed
there are a lot of birds that are in Europe that are not in America
It’s really fun but on apsc it’s pretty tight
its fine for me
a6700 secured
getting swallows in focus is so difficult
first one is very nice
what were your settings for these? shutter speed
i biffed my swallow shots so im curious lol
1/3200 and 1/4000
Idk the exact shutter speed for those
okay yeah i forgot to change it and had it on 1600 lmao
3200 is the bare minimum
yeah makes sense, those bois are fast
I wish I had 45mp for these
r5
yea i would jump straight to r5ii if u can
ay thats pretty good
athat's pretty good
These are not my photos, but it is the model I am going to print (3D PRINTER ) for the bird feeder that I will put in a tree.
rare black stork too
@green canyon hi a6700
Without zooming they look good, very good
this is really cool but can PLA withstand direct sunlight for long?
wondering if it would start to crumble after some time
looks like PETG is the answer
i'm gonna use PTEG
yep
You're convincing me to get one hah
But the GOAT Simon Dentremont doesn't seem to use one so hmm
interesting
some cameras have blackout free viewfinder
so youre actually seeing the scene in real time
but i bet it would be helpful for cameras without that feature
R5 II
I have high speed display on and the blackout is so short I hardly even notice, personally. I used to shoot without it, didnt know the option was there, and complained in gear chat about the blackout
R8 is electronic too, I definitely have a blackout. Very noticeable when high speed display is off
And with wildlife ur already shooting super fast so its not crazy long tho either way
I think this is an Eurasian Kestrel. Just taking this was a pain; there was a strong wind, so it was difficult to brace against it. I had to crank up the SS to 3000ish just to get a stable shot handheld. Failed to track it as it took off
Any tips for shooting in windy conditions? I assume standing towards the direction, but then you might not get the right angle.
3000 is good for birbs so I don't recommend much different
I start at 4000 and lower as ISO climbs if it climbs
Also thats really clear nice pic
Thanks, I've been seeing a range of opinions about shutter speed. In particular, when it comes to perched birds. So I start at the low end and get frustrated thinking going high is a mistake. cause the bird isn't moving.
Thinking about it after what you've said. It's all about exposure, so as long as the ISO isn't all out of whack, going high to get a steady/sharp shot is okay. Sounds basic, but after consuming a whole bunch of videos, etc., it does throw you off.
Also tried to change up with camera angles. May have to invest in a plate. Overall, quite awkward to operate the camera from the top not to mention trying to keep anything in frame!
do u have a flip screen?
yeah, I have the R7. I flipped the screen out for these and had the lens sitting on the shoe mount. The finicky part was operating the camera itself. pressing the focus/tracking buttons and the trigger button
You can enable touch and drag focus so you can tap the screen to focus instead
Also sounds like you're already using back button focus? Once you're locked on (blue) you can let go, it'll track the subject if you don't move it like crazy
i dont care about what others use or dont use
if it benefits me, ill use it
which would you guys pick for a "bird behavior" contest?
carrying nesting material vs pooping
i feel like artistically the second one is amazing
Left
lotta birds
damn seriously? everyone picking left
I would pick left because it displays more of a bird trait
Like everyone shits and pisses yo
Yk
Left
This is a feature of stacked sensors
Good mentality ❤️
I'm not hating on it at all. Just saying I don't use one personally
fuck calculators, i do math the real way
6+7
Oh i see. I thought you had to hold it down while taking the picture. Does that work for eye focus too?
Or, do you need to have the subject tracking on for it to be continuous. When i release the tracking the blue disappears so i thought its stopped tracking
Wtf ive just seen over 100 glossy ibis
new pokemon but it was too far away for any kind of decent photo
the background omg there's something to do
=11
the a6700 af is amazing
lots of bird
I need a sun cover shirt thats not bright blue
Maybe thats why birds avoid me like the plague even if I crawl
Its been through some stuff its so stained but still bright
Build a ghillie Suit
Or buy One
Or Go to my Friends House and steal it
Bet, address and are they armed?
His suit cost 150€ or more
Adress I give you for 50€
They always leave their door open, I can tell you when they ain’t Home
What if this is a plot twist and I’m telling him and he is gonna get robbed and demand 50€ from him and he will then demand 100€ from you or will call the police on you
Hahahaha
Stilts are scary birds...
Blue jays?
Yes
I want a good pic of them flying but these birds out here are way too smart man
Can't seem to get close
Gotta get a backyard bird blind
I find that in public parks the birds are a lot more used to people so ur able to be a lot closer without bothering them
yeah for passerines it's better and sometimes with luck some raptors
