i should go back
my sister will help me get there
Hey, @fast knoll about your red bird photos (vermillion flycatcher you said?) I think the fully red ones look a bit wierd on photos because the eye becomes a lot harder to see. The photos are amazing still! Very sharp and very close :)
i agree
Mostly only in this one
The fully red one here is lit up better
this one is great
Well it looks like my lens will be delivered tomorrow but that wasn't expected so I didn't pay for express delivery on my ef to rf adapter so I may just end up with a wonderful paperweight for a day or two
what did u buy?
Ef 300mm f2.8 L usm
nice
CANON 🔥
printer better smh
ooh which printer is this
Canon Pixma 6550i
it's a high end desktop printer
and medium end photo printer
super cool
The dang focus motor on my nifty fifty sounds just like those old printers

damn i just learned that the PIXMA Print plan send me free ink for 3€/month
i get ink when the cartrige is low in ink
crazy move for photo print who cost a lot of ink
btw fun fact when it says low ink, you can still do a lot of prints on the cartridge
low ink warnings are just to force you to buy more ink
We have epson printers at my school that basically run the entire semester on low ink
yeah but in my case i got free ink
insane trick
indeed
what paper do you use?
and Canon is really precise in low ink
i printed an image with a first warning and it run out of ink just after
Glossy ii a4
I hate glossy, too much glare
i don't do smaller bc it's well...small
this one is really soft but i will also buy matte paper for my clients
like that they will have choice
yeah, i have a few prints (about 50) in a4 and its not the best format for details
i only use official paper and ink cartrige from Canon and the quality is so good
Ftm im forced to use a4 glossy but next semester i might get some luster
one nice paper in glossy a4 is Epson
Ooh nice actually
u use this one
50€ is very excessive

The only print I have on hand is that one so can’t show off that Epson paper
and this one soon
I swear it’s way too expensive
Canon is so good with their printers, ink and paper
damn my new ink cartrige are already shipped
Canon is also good with shipping then i guess
even better then amazon prime
thats indeed quite the speed
my mom got me a sweater for christmas, arrived yesterday
she ordered it on the 20th
came from NZ so im not surprised
off topic but i'm so excited to go shot griffon vulture wednesday
ooooooh
one of my objective of 2026
on the same topic im probably gonna try and find snowy owls this weekend
I know a spot where one has been spotted repeatedly for the past 30 days
come over, i'll show you around
with pleasure and maybe you will do the same in south france
i could, i have some family noth of marseille
Yeah it’s THE spot in my area
Apparently some people are feeding them tho
but Griffon Vulture is one of my dream shot those giant beast are so insane to see
one of the rarest bird then whe can hear the lift of the wing
maybe this winter in the alps i will see a Royal Eagle
Ooooh
use dmf
the autofocus will stop where you said to focus and you can continue the focus manually
here it's full of buzzard and kite
buzzard in winter and kite in summer
Damn lucky you
but like a WHOLE flock around 30 in flight last time i did black kite and royal kite
they love dried fields and my region is full of it
Pretty remarkable
Bro there was a flock of like 60 gulls for a juvenile BE
we don't even call them eagle in french lmao
Yeah I know
Pygargue à tête blanche
it's gypaète barbu
I did not know that and I’m now disturbed
the name is even cooler
well time to sleep for me it's 3am here
gn
gn
low quality but a nice scene i think
very cool
I have it
Its pretty cool
Also look guys
Will edit once I'm home
He was sitting in the middle of the road and its been snowing a lot the last few days
Shot a kingfisher today
everything is frozen tho so no fish
But yea the set looks really cool
Yee I mightve cooked with that one, we'll see
Hoping theres no heat haze from my car
Starting to print things for the next exhibit
Damn snowy owls are so sick
We had one in our backyard in the Netherlands im 2008 for like a month
It was so busy, everyone wanted to come watch
Looks crazy good, all details seem to be there and sharpness is impressive
Thanks
Yeah I got lucky haha, most pics werent as sharp
I also have some herons in my area, this was the closest I was able to get
I've seen soooo many the last few days
taken with the 70- 350?
Yea but very high iso bc the sun wasnt fully out/it was a bit in shade and i used very fast ss
yeah for that bird you need very fast ss
i can not see high iso there
iso is not a problem with ai denoise
Yea but the high iso + denoise makes it a bit soft and the colors looked off, had to correct
It was iso 12800 at least if not higher

iso 12800 is okay
you use ligthroom?
Yea
i have a few birds i want to take pictures of in june
i need to go back to camargue tho
Common kingfisher, European bee-eater, European roller, Hoopoe, Cirl bunting are the birds i wanna get pictures of
well tbf i can get some kingfishers where i am but i can't get them with nice backgrounds
Gotta build a perch then
ISO is not a problem until denoise turns a ball of feather into a smooth ball of uniform plastic
Which has happened too many time for me to admit lol
Yeah... Sometimes I don't know if a shot will denoise well or not 🤷♀️
same
when there's too little light and my shutter speed is too fast
I keep my shutter speed at 1/500 and my aperture at f6.3 for normal situations
Sometimes I forget to change my shutter speed when it's too dark
That's when ISO shoots up
I use the "low shutter speed, burst and pray" technique
She fits
dang i only go 1/500 when im in low light haha
usually i try to keep above 1/800 or 1/1000
but my camera handles higher iso super well
I usually start birding at dawn so light conditions change a lot and I found that 1/500 is good for both low light and bright light situations, it's kind of an all rounder imo
I usually go lower when it's too dark but my ideal setting is 1/800 or 1/1000 at f8 for stationary subjects in sunlight
i wish smaller birds would just sit still for a second lol
so jumpy
average small bird photo
i dont think the r5 autofocus is fast enough to react to these types of movement either
Yeah that's why I'm scared of keeping low shutter speed because a grainy photo is better than a blurry photo
imagine your heart rate was 5x as fast
😂
Is that a pelican?
Not quite lol
Must be one of those fancy birds
Sorry lol, it’s not a bird photo (I know this is the birb form) just saw we were sharing bgs and I thought this photo I took awhile back looked cool as one
It's pretty cool
Today is the big day !
Going to a spot for griffon vulture
i love birds so much, i only use a 300mm lense though and ive only explored my neighbourhood
unfortunately the starling was edited a lot because it was really dark
A bit late but i checked iso, it was shot with 20k
Its normal
20k backlit so the birds are kinda dark still thats just wjy the iq isnt that great
And also cropped a bit yea
20k isnt that high itself tho, right
Yea, on a6700 its a bit high imo when you crop a bit and have to lift shadows like hete
I know right lol
6400 iso already feels borderline useless if I want any fur or feather details on my a6700
What lens are you using?
Ohh you found them
Congrats
One of my fav birds, havent seen one yet tho
Yeah there a whole flock actually
If its brightly exposed sure. If you need to raise shadows diffrent story
Ai denoise helps a lot tho
Decided I’m going to look for snowy owls today as well
Nice
Maybe for AI autofocus but otherwise maybe not
Still no luck finding one
Just finished this one (the angle was really hard to get at this range)
Really beautiful one
How typical
Got any tips?
Thanks
Nothing other than driving every dirt road in sight
Poles and fields, poles and fields 😂
GL!
Fr I lowkey hate snowy owl birding
And it's all to see a white dot a quarter mile away
Then you try to convince yourself it's worth it
Lol I'm sorry
However tho if you do get one cool moment with one it is the best feeling in the world
Bah its okay
Yeah I hope I see one for that tho
At least the roads are paved
Literally in the center of all these spots
this one is so good the wingspan is HUGE
Just saw a bunch of snow buntings but a dude past by them like crazy and they all flew away 😭
Fire
kingfisher
I also really like those
nice lighting, wich one is the best in your opinion?
first or third
with a little editing u can get rid of that almost blown out spot and make it look super nice
thanks, i thought its a somewhat nice highlight to keep in especially in the first one. Will try to reduce it especially with the third image
Nice tits
Joke aside, I have yet to get a good shot of these birds. They are always the first to fly away when I approach them.

i think they are more curious than some other birds tho
Nice what
i want one in my hand
Same
No you don't
Tits are a pain in the ass to hold
They will bite the fuck out of ur fingers, especially where your nails meet your skin
Really not as much as robins, those are absolutely fearless
But cute

Worth it
Wear gloves
Almost impossible to properly handle such small birds properly with gloves on
Or just don't be weak
Befriending some crows lmao
I Need to go out today cause there's no hunters out for once
You made me want to feed the pigeons at the park lmao
Lool yeah pigeons are funny too but crows are a lot smarter
yeah but piegon fights like men

Saw some ravens in the snow on tuesday, wouldve made for some amazing photos but sadly they were way too far away
@spice silo after few days with the 70 350, is it enough for birding?
Imo yes. Especially at the spots where i am. Sure more would be more but i dont feel like it would make my images better at all tbh
For some spots i went to longer lens would have been nicer but its not a issue for me. But like i am coming from 55-210 and i'm still fairly new to wildlife
But i certainly dont think of regretting not getting a longer lens
It's difficult. The size is definitely a factor. But I can get a Tamron 150 500 for only €150 more.
However, the quality of the 55 210 is also extremely poor.
Yea, its shit
That's nothing compared to the 70 350.
If it would be just for birding i would go for 150-500 then. But i love the 70-350 also for other genres of photography or take it with me when i travel
If its only like 150€
I can get it for 650€
I can Not find a 70 350 for less then 500 here
I mean as you know i bought it very cheaply in a bundle with a6700 but personally, just for birding i would definetly prefer the tamron because if i go birding its not that big anyway
Its just big for going on walks nearby, traveling or other genres imo
But thats just my opinion
Its around 1kg more
Friend of mine is traveling with 200 600
Thats heavier and 10cm bigger
Yea certainly can do it, i wouldnt want to
Currently i go birding at one specific location most of the times, and i dont walk that much there. Wouldnt be much of an issue for me i think
For travelling, I would only take two lenses with me anyway: the 17–70 and the telephoto zoom. Is it really so bad that I have an extra kilo in my hand luggage?
Its not about the luggage imo
I just dont want to carry it around
Or i would take it out less, for travel this is a big downside for me
The 200 600 is really too big for me. Simply because of its size. It's also a bit heavier. And it costs almost twice as much. So it's not interesting to me anyway.
I would only have one problem when hiking, but I think I would leave the other one at home too.
Have you been able to try the lenses in a store or smt?
Because 70-350 size and weight wise is somewhat similar to 17-70
I wish Sony would release more APSC super teles, sadly FF has all the swag
Something like a 400 or 500 prime maybe?
Just use the ff ones
I bought APSC not to have a télescope sized lens lol
Thats what mft is for, not a brand thats focused on ff and apsc is their budget lineup
Sigma 500mm f5.6 is cool ig
In fact, the Tamron is three times as heavy:
625 g vs. 1750 g.
Price not
MFT mentioned
I mean, might as well by a bridge. P1100 anyone?
You have 70 350 too?
yup
Mft is really nice if you want smallish wildlife setup
Like this?
200mm f2.8 + tc?
Cool
Looking great
But there are nicer lenses iirc if you really care abt size on mft
Olympus 100-400mm f5-6.3 also sounds really cool
But idk much abt mft tbh
iirc the newer om1's have great s/n or dynamic range for its sensor size
Also those are very fast cameras
I also have a Sigma 16-300, not the sharpest but it is unmatched for its versatility
that looks decently sharp to me
Yea always switching lenses is a bit annoying but i am still not sold on superzooms
The sigma is decently sharp tho especially fot a superzoom iirc
Pic with my setup
Not 70-350 levels sure but decent
Lovely
what setup is this
G9 + 200 2.8
ohh cool
Yeah, I take it when I don't know if I will go for animals or landscape when hiking
how cropped is that photo?
I just kinda bring 17-70 f2.8 and 70-350 everywhere xD
Lots on the top and bottom, little bit on the sides
export quality prob a tiny bit low then
Definitely
lol, I also have the obligatory 18-50, but sometimes I don't want to bother other people with lens switching
@storm helm one more thing, note that most people i know that bought 70-350 want or already have a longer lens for birding now
Idc
Fair, its annoying sometimes
apsc + 200-600 is a dream combo for birding
If they dont want to wait for me switching lenses they are not worth my time
(jk ofc)
idk why canon wont just make a 200-600 lol
they have to be special and do 100-500
i guess the 200-800 is unique but
But soo expensive
not an L lens
yea bird photography is pay to win
Depends on region etc tbh but yea its expensive
150-600 is a thing for Canon anyway
Got 70-350 nearly for free
150 500 650€
200 600 1200€
70 350 500€
yea idk how well it works on canon mirrorless tho
70-350 a bit overpriced in your region imo
honestly this is less than what i thought
$1400 usd for 200-600 is a good deal
Used prices
Its easily found for 450€ but you dont want shipping
150 500 is 790€ new
70 350 is 600€ new
200 600 is 1450€ new
more affordable than canon lol
My opinion is that 70-350 is enough range for birding but if you dont mind the size go 150-500, if you do just het 70-350
just tape two 70-350 together for cheap 200-600
I mean you can test it out and sell if you want smt smaller or with more reach
u already have like 525mm ff right
that's more than i have already
Dont overthink it
Yea
500 is pretty good already
I think its plenty, more is cool but not neccesery
350 is 525
yea i agree
u can get small birds but u have to be patient
also helps if u have more mp to crop in a little
I loaned an 100 400 and it was difficult
I kinda only shoot smaller birds with it for now
But its also diffrent depending on the bird and location
Then get the tamron
r u currently looking for a birding lens?
Increasing bird length is cheaper than increasing focal length
yea big subjects r nice and easy
thats why i like herons
i started to try to do smaller birds tho
I Had the 100 400 one day and it was so much fun
I really like to shoot small birds idk they are so fast and look cute xD
But yeah ITS big and the Tamron is alot heavier (Not bigger)
Some small birds like robins are absolutely fearless
38 mp barely cropped
I swear some of them actually posed for me
prob a very rare occassion where i get an uncropped small bird
If the 400mm havent really been enough already why are you even thinking abt it tbh
Because the size and weight of the Sony can be unbeatably useful
Yea it can be a bit difficult especially to get a good bg etc
Then get the sony and learn getting closer
yea theyre always hanging out in a billion different sticks and branches
I will see If they sell me 150 500 for 650€ i will get that because price is way below average
If i do Not use ist enough because of size i should get the Money Back pretty easy
Last shot, these are low res bc i am only on phone rn and i just send them trough whatsapp but for some i could get really close and get some detail
First image is a bit cooked editing wise tho ik
at 200mm btw (300mm aps-c)
Is that at nigth?
No
Awesome
In shade tho with the sun shining trough clouds
tele are mostly for pretty far subject and tiny ones
Experimented a bit to much in editing
for large one 400mm is already good enough
That is a dynamic range stress test
Dynamic range isnt a issue at all here tbh plenty detail
I just cooked it myself in editing lol
It was late

But for the second and last one the bg is so great imo

I will probably send full res tomorrow
Bird spotted
I want to shoot those so bad but i never get them to be at an good angle

My bird knowledge is smol, what species is this?
It's tough
I think it's a woodpecker
Fluffy
I think I posted this is another channel, taken from a kayak
Me on phone looking at it vertically so black borders at top and bottom: where bird?
Holding a 2000$ machine above water is a scary experience...
Looks cool tho
I am tired tho i should go to sleep
Same here
wich one you prefer ?
The third one
The widest crop
more centered than the first one and gives the wings more breathing room than the second
what a great shot
This is a shot where you can see how big the wingspan is
i agree, widest. i want to feel how big the bird is. This image is best away from the minute details, and more on the wings, the altitude, the turn the bird is taking
@spice silo He agreed 650€ for the 150 500
How big is that monster?
gotta find some friendly ones somewhere
Smaler than the 200 600
Damn thats pretty nice
Yeah it's for the next exhibit
Cool, that's a magnificent pose
those are yours?? i saw 3 of them on Pinterest i swear 😭
Too many BOAS nowadays
yea anyone with an expensive setup can take decent photos as long as they know the exposure triangle
not even exposure triangle these days tbh
if they know how shutter speed works just shoot wide open and auto iso
And now with pre capture, you don't even need to have good reaction time
Yes they are mine
the sony 200 600 is huge
but its not getting bigger when zooming
its internal zoom
for transportation the tamron seems just ok
But if you're hiking all day, even the Tamron is probably too heavy.
Yea
I hike with a lens about the same weight no problem
My birding setup is like 2kg
I guess I'm not counting the new tripod
But I need to put batteries in my scale
so you say i should buy the 150 500 for 650€?
2.5kg camera and lens plus camping equipment
I fortunately don't need to bring camping equipment with me 😆
no birds
I should go look for birds tbh
bad day here too
This was in Kazakhstan for an overnight trip but sometimes you need to venture out into the wilderness to get to certain species
It's dark and rainy here this morning, not too daunting for me, but I don't hear any birds either
Gotcha, I have never gone out of my way to get a specific species, I go for good pics of regular birds haha
Sparrows, catbirds, bluejays, cardinals, mockingbirds, grackles..
Lots of waterfowl :3
Thats true
yee I feel like my part of germany is especially bad for birding
literally nothing
Where are you?
next bigger city is Hannover
Ah
I am 100km to munich
I want to do some wide angle birding and I have a plan but I'm afraid
I can set my camera to interval shooting, next to some bait, during the right time of day...
nah
But I don't want the birds to
- claw up the top of my camera
- poop on it
Get a remote shutter
You need a remote shutter release.
I use my phone as a remote shutter
its not interesting for them
only bird I got to photograph smh
Yeah, they move a lot
they're also in the worst possible trees
Blue tit made a surprise attack 😅
last one looks like he's holding a sword and ready to stab the other blue tit 😭
bird where i am are too peaceful
really nice photos btw
Byord
These are mostly peaceful too, but some times they argue bit about who was first on a food line. 😅
thanks 👋
🚬 this is probably my favorite, idk if I've posted it here
Bluejays aren't particularly rare here, I find them in my garden all the time 😁
Yeah there are some nice blue birds in France (excuse the not so great photo)
i want to get a picture of a european bee eater so bad
european rollers are the closest we have to bluejays
what a cool scene 🔥
love your photos
i love tits
Thank you for your kind words 😊 👋
Rain cover
For what species did u go to Kazachstan
I went to Kazakhstan specifically to hike, not for wildlife photography
I had my lens with me in case I came across anything interesting
Did more landscapes than anything else
does the nikon d5100 have that
Precap is a fairly recent feature yup
It allows you to go from bird on a stick to bird flying out of a stick lol
lil guy chilling in the grass
impossible to get closer to him unfortunately
but i'll try again tomorrow
Guys there’s a European Robin in Montreal
i saw that on ebird
didnt it come in on a boat or something
where is it now
idk sadly
i think so
TITS!
settings?
someone has an ef 600 f4 ii on facebook marketplace for 5k
seems to be a normal price
normal??
yh
where r u seeing other ones like that
ebay
hmm i see
it sells between 5000-7000 euros
5000 US dollars tho
im trying to get it down to 4500
then i might seriously consider
no
apparently it's flawless
the guy said he's desperate for money
im kinda considering it but also idk when i would use this lens
seems like a pain in the ass to transport
Worth it
im trying to get it down to 4500
but if he also has an ef 1.4x iii maybe i'll ask him to throw that in too
i'm ngl i might need to go to the US and get a lens there lmao
i never do it

this isnt normal lol
rare good price
the average price of lenses is a LOT cheaper than the average price in france
i will necer understand #⚡・gallery-picks and #⚡・featured-photos

the choices are sometimes weird
picks is the pics the mods think r good and featured is the pics the mods think r rly good
i mean some shots are just ok but
a lot of them are really good
dont need to agree with every decision its all subjective after all
yeah real
telephoto prime lenses are funng
Indeed
i think its kinda odd to spend like 10k on a non zoomable lens with a set focal range thars very long
well it's a very specific use case
that happens to be required for most bird photography
but yea primes r super crazy
I love my prime
its the only way to get that kind of performance though, to get a lens that's 600 f/4 that zooms would be 2/3x the cost
yeah
I can see how u can use it but its kinda
Ehhhh
Yk
yeah thats true too
it also handles teleconverters super well
most zoom lenses shit the bed
so u can get up to 1200mm without a significant drop in IQ
of course heat haze and factors beyond reach will affect IQ at that point
plus the insane low light performance
working out so I can carry that 600 f/4 one day 🙏
What prime u got
Leica DG 200mm f2.8 IS + 1.4X
Short
560mm equivalent
Enter the sigma 300-600 f/4
But that thing weighs approximately one fuckton
On Madeira for a week, only have my 24-70 with me but the birds here are so tame that I actually managed to get some decent shots
70mm birding go bbbrrrrr
backlit but i still like it
bird :)
That European robin is getting some attention I’d say
Holy moly
Bokeh got me feeling dizzy
and here it's so common

yup id guess the same would happen if an american bird would end up in europe
Yup it was exactly the same when the mockingbird was in germany like a year ago
People flew here from England etc to see it
I saw it too since it was not even 2km away from where my dad lives

yeah typical rich retired birders behaviour
thats insane
There is enough money to solve world hunger here
lol
why dont they just go to europe on vacation at that point
Literally flipping my bird for my American folks
i agree
Yeah freedom robin is lowkey scary looking
yes
lmao
I say from now we, as the members of this forum, must refer to the American robin (Turdus migratorius) as the “Freedom Robin”
Missed an opportunity to get some shots of a hawk like thing maybe a harrier (something of thag nature) that wad flying around today 😢
my bad haha
okay, thanks
wish i had a garden like this
It's a private area who i'm allowed to put the nest
It's not my garden
ah
private domicile
And I will not be harassed
With the spectacled Eider we have in the Netherlands it was even more insane, people came from Bulgaria and even India. Since normally u need to go to Alaska or Russia to even get a slight chance of seeing it
Madeiran Finch, on the 24-70, nearly touched this guy with my lens lol
dang theyre so chill
How tf did you get that close, how did you get this with a 24-70
Teach me your ways 🙏 🙏 🙏
That looks incredible, that kind of shot with a standard zoom is kinda insane lol
Find some very tame birds lmao. These guys were at a tourist parking spot, so very used to humans. In the end he was about 5cm from my lens lol
holy
what focal length were u at ?
70mm
HOLY FUCK, had a red legged partridge come within a meter of me today
Saw 2 of them walking next to the trail, went ahead and down to cut them off and they just walked right by me
Beautiful
Two seconds?
owl!
lucky
it's a night shot
yepper, you can tell how dark it was by how dilated his eyes are
haha yeah only took 2 years and dozens of failed outings
i have owls around here usually but i haven't heard them in a few months
I do know a place where they are more common but it’s not very safe to go to at night
thats exactly how I feel about this place lol
Always sus people around
i'm actually trying to got a shot of an owl
it's not that easy
I am still stuck at the "find an owl" step lol
The only one I have ever seen has at the side of the road and flew away as soon as I noticed it
i heard them but never seen one yet (but soon i go to a park where owls nests)
I decided it’s better to just mute half the server and enjoy the bird/gallery channels
wo
Same
saw two wild ones, got good photos of one
Know where a 3rd one lives but havent been there in a few months
Well... actually I have seen an owl from very close
It was a captive one during a trip to rural Japan
Poor thing 🙁
holy sharp
hooray for 18k
If guys you are interested to see the nest during the whole mating season i can give you an access to see it
which bird is the nesting box for ?
Whichever one gets it first
hole is about tit sized
@gilded yarrow I captured a pretty close up picture of a tufted titmouse recently
You want to see ?
Ohhh thats pretty cool
I wish we'd have such tame birds here where I live
Never seen that before
I had a few land on my hand that day I went to this park
Yeah it's great tit sized
😏
Omfg

Happy to show off a tit

There are two certainty in life, taxes and tit jokes
I have tit pics, now I need booby pics
your Name is Anna
Sounds like that should be an easy task
assuming youre not a male anna

Very funni
on the contrary, I don't need to take those pics
This chat is now about birds
!!!!
yum
My baby
Sick
I still havent printed my kingfisher photo
No money
Crazy shot, this was the closest I was able to get with my 70 350. They fly way too high...
You need to go at morning you will see them take altitude fast and take shots like this one
(This is the shot)
Sadly the branches that were in front of the bird kinda made the photo look odd but otherwise am happy
Nice to get close to a hummingbird like that
a bunch of em just perch up in trees in my backyard or my neighbors
my neighbors all know my shenanigans so they dont really care if im in their yard
what lens?
Could be even sharper 100%
Its perfect for sharpening
50-400 tamron
what do you use for editing?
lr mobile and darktable
how cropped is this btw u might wanna leave a little bit more around the edges
Yep same, somehow always helps a bit
although im not too good at darktable yet
and lr mobile free version
If you dont mind sending me the raw I could show you
once im.home sure
thats very nice
yea your photo reminds me of this
i would say crop a bit less tight
denoise it
and it'll look very nice
ive never gotten great hummingbird photos until this
I see
thanks
there was this shiny one i saw too
Idk if its a rufous cuz those are super orange
oooo
it's an anna's
You rang
😂

ill probably go into my backyard more for hummingbird
I generally stayed on our deck and didnt try going down into the grass
but my feeder is also gone now so its a different story
what is the pink throat hummingbird called ahain?
ruby throated ?
Stop feeding the birds.
It's something I struggle to find myself saying, as I've done it almost all of my life. But over the last couple of years, as I've read more into it, I've become increasingly concerned about the whole thing.
One of the main arguments for feeding birds is that "we've taken away their natural food so we need to replace it...

Interesting perspective, def think he makes a good point
Birds are far from reliant on feeders
They will gladly visit if the seed at a given feeder is worth having, but they have plenty of natural food sources
The best argument against feeders is that they contribute to the spread of disease, which is why it’s good practice to clean them regularly and watch for sick birds so you can take them down if needed
Absolutely nothing wrong with planting native things, of course, but acting like feeders are some unholy blight on the landscape gives the birds too little credit
yes, this is what research tells us
There are still people who think you should take your hummingbird feeders in during migration season to keep the hummingbirds from sticking around
Like guys, these birds are literally hard-coded to migrate
They will do what their genes tell them to, and your plastic flower isn’t going to stop them
No ofc not, but that wasnt the point
But I also think the fact that certain birds benefit way more from feeders, thus disrupting population numbers and possibly leading to outcompetion of birds who don't benefit from feeders is a problem
This is so good whay
Thanks
I like the fish
if you keep chickens cornell recommends taking down bird feeders to slow spread of bird flu to song birds
should also be regularly cleaning any bird feeder there's several other diseases that can b spread
supposed to clean hummingbird feeders twice a week
since that's a big pot of sugar water and will quickly grow nasty stuff
@split path Is the lighting of this photo the original or did you do some post editing for the brightness ?
Took this one Dec of 2024
for this one would it be best to minimize the background and crop that out a bit ?
I did some masks in Lightroom.
Is lightroom a paid service ?
Yes, there is a free version on mobile however u won't be able to edit RAW files
oh okay but is it only for adjusting brightness on photos ?
There are many different things u can do, so much so that I can't type out all of it. I'd recommend watching a quick guide or tutorial on Lightroom to see if it's right for u
Mandarin ducks look so good, too bad they are so rare where I live
mid (0 jealousy)
i'm gonna go to scotland soon
hopefully gonna see some Atlantic puffins
and eagles ofc

it snode
I would prefer some action but didn't get any rn
Yeah the bokeh just ain't hitting right
I would go to the lake for snowy waterfowl again but honestly it's not a good day for that
What resolution do you recommend?
idk i usually do like 60% on lightroom
i just say that because the pixels are very noticeable
And for print 100%
I have mine set to like 85 for internet exports
if u zoom in i dont think u can see any lack of quality
still have good quality
Slight annoyance that I’ll only see one of these in a zoo, but they’re still fun to shoot
I have some bird prints
100% quality for all images i share (most of them are for sales)
Huhhh
I always have it set to 100

Too much space lol
U don’t even notice a quality difference on any platform either
Only if u print u might notice something
For example this file is 818kb only
U might see the background noise but that’s from the iso12800
Not due to export settings
what a terrible article 😭
points 1 and 3 are just not right
i'll cut him some slack i guess since it was posted at least 6 years ago
maybe he was using a dslr and high iso was unfixable in post for him
ISO used to be more of a factor
yea
but even 6 years ago in 2019 i feel like it wasnt the biggest issue
when did mirrorless come out?
thats a7iii times
so iso already wasnt really a problem
well, there was no ai denoise I guess
100%
i decided to increase my quality
nice! looks a lot better
Cool
Reading this got me cancer
Puffman
Is that full res?
Nah cropped to 13 MP
I just exported it from the camera ima edit it when I get home
Should be nice
Yea I’ve never gotten a pic of an Anna’s with the pink head
Light was never in my side
it's kinda cool that u can see right through his beak lol
dang the head is so colorful
i only put saturation to 8 but it looks kinda oversatruated lol
last one
The light
woahhhh

first time trying video on this camera
