you have bands ?
maybe its js my phone
oh yeah its js the preview
once loaded its fine
discord shows previews before loading the full image
discord making shit again

nice
All taken from almost same spot. There is slight difference side ways, but distance is more or less the same (about 8 m). 1. 300mm f2.8 (1/500 s ISO 800) 2. 600mm f6.3 pf (1/200 s ISO 1250) and 3. 600mm + 2x tc (1/60 s ISO 1250)
To my eye the backgrounds look similar on the ones shot with the PF
The 2.8 wins of course
Sharpness wise I think 600mm with 2x is better than cropping. 🤔 Well at least this time and in this situation. But birds pose might also affect that too and difference is really small.
Looks pretty similar imo
I think real world sharpness is really good compared to f-mount 2x tc. Af really takes a hit, but weekend was really grey and rainy. So it might not be that bad on a bright day.
coots r so annoying to photograph lol
black head
watched two of them do a courtship dance
Jorb
ok thats trippy
haha yea
it was actually just taken at my local park and there was a colorful building in the background making a nice reflection
i think im getting better at taking decent pics
coots r so annoying to take pics of
i never get a sharp image
none of these came out sharp 😭
also how do i slow down this gif lmao
made it using google photos
step 1. use something other than google photos
adobe has one
i swear its horrendous
clipchamp is pretty good too, free tier has a lot of editing options and 1080p export
eh i tried gif export and it made it tiny so maybe not
ooh
lemme tweak the gif a tiny bit
to make it look like that
the adobe one is nice
bruh idk how to use this
i already forgot how to change the duration
oh i cant go under 0.1 seconds per image in adobe
Hell yeah
Great crested grebe
Cool fellas, indeed can spend some insane amounts of time underwater
oh i know those, but ive only seen them fully grown
black and orange fluffy heads
Yeah this is a juvenile
Some kind of a bird idk
Hehe i love when they do that run
Z8/Z9 shooters, what kind of cards do you recommend? Like how fast is fast enough?
Also right now I have a 512GB SD which can go for multiple shoots on my D800 (4.5FPS/36MP)if I so choose.
Im thinking probably 256-512GB so I dont have to switch cards often (or, maybe at all, during a shoot), and also cause 1TB and such are all pretty pricey
I have 1TB and get 11k pictures out of that. I have a lexar gold card with 1900mb/s read speed, which is more than fast enough. I can shoot about 4s at 20fps, then I hit buffer and slow down to like 15fps till my camera overheats lol
whats the write speed?
1500md/s
But most importantly the sustained write speed is very high, which is most important ofc
I started with old 64GB xqd cards that I already had from D850 days. Then I bought few 128GB cards and those were just too small for my use. So I bought same 1TB card as @wide flint has and I haven't regretted that choice at all. It is clearly faster than 128GB version and maintains that write speed much longer. 👌 I had one older version of Lexar 128GB gold card that started to corrupt files (card said that it is not formatted) now and then. Files were still salvageable with recover software and Lexar changed that card to new in warranty. So I still use and trust Lexar cards.
the 2nd one seems overedited on the duck you can see the mask detachement
Im aware, just figured it dont matter much if its just gonna be an instagram upload
Most of the pics r super grainy and requires extensive noise reduction and sharpening
10k-12.8k iso average with significant crop
Im desperate for flight shots so idgaf anymore
birb
Chaffinch fly shots. First one is taken with 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 @400mm, shutter speed 1/1600 s and ISO 10000. 🤯 I think it turned out pretty well considering the high ISO and relatively low shutter speed.
very beautiful
thanks 🙌
these flight series are excellent
wet work
chickadee, but closer
peep
Just a few more weeks till I finally get my drivers license
And therefore unlock all the birding spots
Its like going from tutorial to full map
Suddenly everythings fun again
Is it young bird or adult in winter plumage?
Bro is going to buy the world DLC

omg I watched them leave us for summer
Tried to take action shots with my Z fc. It's not totally impossible, but it's so much harder than with Z9. Biggest limitations of Z fc are frame rate and fastest shutter speed 1/4000 s which just isn't fast enough.
300mm f2.8
I have practiced a lot and found pretty good technique for this kind of shots. 😅
Tell us!! What is the secret antti?
I have already revealed my "secret", but here comes longer version. Key is to find setup where bird flies or takes off as straight as possible. My setup is something like the one in the picture. Birds usually lands on branch and then takes off straight to feeder. That way photo has almost nothing to do with autofocus. I just anticipate the moment bird takes off and press shutter button before that and keep it pressed. I take hundreds and hundreds of pictures most of them are useless but some of then are right on spot. Shutter speed needs to be 1/5000 s or faster. Sometimes slower might be enough. I think focal length 300-400mm is the sweet spot at least for my spot. Background needs to be far enough (maybe about 10m) for good separation. And that is how you take takeoff shots. Hopefully this makes some sense. 😅
What kind of bird seed do you use ?
sunflower seeds (peeled) and crushed peanuts
Yeah they visit often and eat a lot, but I don't mind. My feeder is in the forest so squirrels won't get inside buildings or such.
Fun photo opportunity if a bird and squirrel ever fight for the same perch, too
True. But I think that in the winter birds doesn't get that bothered about squirrels as they do when they are nesting.
Squirrels deserve to eat too!
A bunch of shots of Anne’s hummingbirds using a 70-200mm f/4 I recently acquired (definitely need more practice with it but I’m happy with what I got using it for the first time)
woah jorb
the living fishing rod, extra photos
I have a very similar photo of a snowy egret scratching lol
they barely move except for itch or a fish lol
Huge migration today 😍
Ahhhh I need to check ebird for cranes here in germany
zoo?
I love it when lanky birds get a good scratch in, they look so goofy looking 😂
This one isn’t even a passable photo but I kept it because it makes me laugh in an endeared way
I haven’t been able to shoot any birds in a month
Thinking I might go to the Almaty zoo
Nope all of them in wild except for the owl he is being treated because he has a tumor
It is a natural bird sanctuary with a care and rescue center for injured or sick birds
Eurasian woodcock from last night after sunset. Cars head/cornering lights worked as a light source.
This name is always killing me
this guy swam along with me while i walked the length of a dug out channel earlier this morning
photo wasnt great tho cus the background is like 80cm behind the bird, it was on the opposite side of the channel and my 100-400 only reached so far
damn i wish i was closer. i witnessed a hawk chase a smaller bird and then it caught it. if u zoom in u can see the bird it took. sad it happened on the other side of the field. 940mm not enough :c
unedited jpg ^
Kinda surprised I got a great picture of this chickadee on my 18-140
And here are less polished photos but still adorable:
leaf inspection
Thats lowkey fried
I mean I said I was surprised it turned out so well, not that it was a masterpiece lmao
the photo itself is probably nice
the editing is just a bit over the top
i bet all it needs is some lightroom denoise and some lighter edits it'll look great
Started to setup the autumn/winter
merlin!
Fav
They named a bird after the app 🤯
me when I see a bird called ebird
me when bird
Starling = eBird
after the AOS finishes renaming all the birds named for people, this is possible
bbbbbiiiirrrrrrddddd
It's a woodpecker at this point wtf bro calm down
same here. there was a time I tried to deter them, greasing the bird pole so they would slide down if they tried to climb 😄 too much effort though and they don't eat much anyway. plus they're cute.
😄
You could build a floating hide
I will say, that the biggest issue I have with the floating hide that I made was limited areas of usage. It works extremely well in shallow, slow moving rivers with lots of banks but essentially nowhere else.
I was thinking I could get a lot of usage out of it around my area because we have so, so many ponds. I found out very quickly that ponds and even rivers that have too slow of a current have a major issue in that the bottom is extremely silty/muddy and you cannot walk across the bottom of them. I really don't get much use out of the hide other than a handfull of locations.
pretty much all my lakes have steep banks so getting low to the water without being in the water isnt possible
this pic was laying on my belly on a boat dock and holding my camera over the edge even closer to the water but its still not particularly low lol
be very careful and know the floor conditions though, you can definitely get stuck in a muddy pond
the photo above is a river with an all sand bottom so i was comfortable going out there chest deep
Guh??
i went out today to get some more birb photos
i think they turned out fine
yum
sharp
Is that a screenshot
yes
I could, for the moment I have my kayak, which is a very sketchy setup
safe/20
I changed the straps since then so it’s a lot tighter but still scary as hell
not low enough!
That’s why in changing the legs soon
To have no center column
Low enough for this
Jorb
owl?
gotta get a photo of one of these things flying
i missed my shots today
im not too great with birbs yet
i also tried getting down low with the eye level but it didnt turn out too good
sadly blurry
think it's a great horned owl gettin bullied by a crow
I feel you on that, didn’t have much luck on my end either when I went out today
Didn’t help that it was cloudy/raining AND I was losing daylight so there’s a fair amount of noise
Tried to denoise it so it looks a bit better but eh
got 3rd in bird discord photo contest

1st place pic is pretty epic (not my pic obvs)
theme was accidental renaissance and I was going for this
birb
i had some issues with noise today because it was cloudy
Same here
…though I don’t have much right to complain about it when I decided to live in Vancouver of my own free will :V
lmao vancouver canada?
if so i got those shots at burnaby lake today
rainy ahh
Indeed
raincouver
And oh neat, I’ve been meaning to go to Burnaby Lake as well
I went to Maplewood Flats today up in North Vancouver
ive gotta go up there some day
i only more recently started getting into photography more "seriously" after my upgrade because i thought if i spent allat why not go use it
Eh it was alright
Reifel was much more fun, even when we were apparently a little early to see all the migratory birds
Very cool, I’ve been on a roll since I got my 70-200 and took some really great photos at Reifel
been a solid while since i went there
last time i went was in like grade 3?
im in grade 12 now
theres a good area in pitt meadows i think its called pitt river park?
youd need a telephoto but theres lots of birds of prey there
my 70-180 could not cut it at all i think youd need like 400 or 600mm minimum
Cool, I just moved here like 6 months ago so it was my first time 😂
Not my first time at a shoreline park though, we had plenty of those in the California Bay Area where I grew up
ah i see
ive been here for majority of my life
but i was initially from the inner region of bc
Lots of birds in common too
Like I immediately knew a Anne’s hummingbird was nearby since I’ve heard their call all my life
And it helped me triangulate where he was so I could take pics like these
hum ming b i rd
fire
most ppl in that discord can barely produce a sharp photo lol but there are a few goats like u
i guess theyre mostly focused on spotting not photographing
yeah it's primarily hardcore birders
if I kept a life list it would be so short but at least I got nice pics of every bird I've found
I've been to birder meetups and I definitely spotted a lot more birds with the pros helping but the the number of good pics did not rly go up
yea i agree
my goal is to get a nice pic
here's a 0.9 megapixel pic I took of an owl that someone I was with somehow noticed from a mile away
if i see it but it's half a mile away i dont consider that a win
lmao nice
ive still never seen an owl
i want to see one so bad
there will be a conglomeration of 5000 ducks a mile away in the middle of the lake and it's impossible to get a picture of them but the group has to stop until every single one has been identified
The only owl I’ve got is this great horned owlet I snagged
ive got a few owls in this birds of prey sanctuary in lethbridge alberta but my camera lens had broken and i wasnt used to it at that time lol
i got to hold a big ol great horned owl
very different than a budgie to hold
ive thought about buying a simple styrofoam/cell plastic sheet and pretty much just rest the camera on it on the actual surface of the water
only works in calm water obviously since the insane buoyancy would be weird with any waves but i think it would be a nice help in calm bays
being able to get low enough for the surface line to thin up into almost nothing, unlike here where i just held the camera over the side of the canoe
its not too bad but water surfaces are really fkin ugly
i like this dudes work because of how soft and pastel like he keeps it with mega low angles and morning light
Damn that 2nd one is sick
Bruh tf is that 2nd place lol
They really are kinda weird over there, at least photo wise
funny pic
you can only vote for one pic so 1st place probably got 20 votes and 2nd got 4 votes and I got 3 votes
ya know how it is
I like how this discord handles contests better
One thing I’ve noticed is that my camera’s noise doesn’t seem to be the multicolored red green and blue dots it just appears kinda grainy but the colors r similar to what’s in the image
Is this just a result of how newer technology handles noise?
lightroom defaults to 20% chroma denoise
if u turn chroma denoise off itll look how youre used to seeing
ohh interesting
i think this system makes sense but only if there are like 10,000 voters
4 votes vs 3 votes to determine second place is a joke lol
idk how many people are actually voting I made it up
definitely fewer than this discord though
oooh, a narrow sit in is so scary to me lol
this looks so dumb in a way that i really appreciate
i would 100% do the same shit
Now it's ready
Oh trust me it’s the dumbest shit I’ve ever done, also it’s a sea kayak so this shit is not stable at all
Ye i can tell, i had one a while back
They get sketchy
Yep
Lots of stuff I only see in spring or fall
The winter birds are starting to come as well
Did some good shot this morning
We had misty morning on Monday and I got some quite similar looking shots. 😅
Th 4th one
I like 2nd one better, because there is a tiny bit of motion blur or missed focus of the birds head on the 4th one. 🫠
ooo whats that
Cooper’s?
cooper's, yeah
open areas near stands of trees, in the morning or late afternoon, usually give me best results
cooper hawks are forest raptors, but they'll hunt over fields if there's food
this specific area has a ton of sparrows, so i waited til i saw a hawk on the wing and found a spot where the bird wouldn't be backlit if it kept to its flight pattern
i got one good pass, then it left
i'm also near an airport that usually draws a few merlins and other raptors
they land there to refuel or smth?
sometimes lol
they like the big open fields, they're mowed and the grass is short so it's easy to see prey
i'm told there are short-eared owls in winter, but have never seen one
That’s so cool, I’m so jealous you have so many opportunities to photograph them
i am lucky in some ways
fresh cut
black phoebe, nice
fluff
Was taking photos of terns on the beach when I got this sea lion bodysurfing
Yoo thats sick
tree stump
Goofy face
i think the more realistic explanation is he was fishing or something
took that jpg straight from my camera ima try to edit it a little and see if i can make it look nice
Probably
yea was right on the shore
im pretty bad at eyeballing exposure
once i send the photo to my phone it looks a lot darker
i try to view it on 50% brightness on phone and laptop
Are you using auto-iso?
yea
i just adjust light meter sometimes if i have to but i left it right at the middle here
Which terns are these?
i think royal
there were 2 of them at first then i watched like 6 other ones land right in front of me and start chirping
this looks like
but a bird
lmao youre right

some tests with the Minolta AF reflex 500mm
SooC
I know that Olive Backed Sunbirds are common but they're just so cool
had to flip the screen out for this one
why can't Nikon just put a tilt screen on the Z6iii, this flippy screen makes me want to buy a Z8 or something
Semipalmated?
Nahhhh flippy screen is 100x nicer
One of the reasons why I upgraded from a7iii to a7iv
try taking vertical shots down low with a tilt only screen
Yep
Why would I care about shooting vertical, at ground level, with a teleprime lens?
That’s probably the rarest shot I take
There was also a semipalmated sandpiper
Not just with tele, but if you do ever need it you'll miss it
i've yet to
the tilt screen is 1000% better for what i need a camera to do, and it may be why i eventually upgrade from the Z6iii
because shooting at ground level with a flip screen is an ergonomic nightmare
is r5 tilt screen
whatever it is it's nice
i flip it out and tilt it upward so much
can it tilt without flipping?
meanwhile the Z6iii requires you to flip the screen out and then rotate it, which means you can't just look down at it
your arm gets in the way if you're supporting a lens
Single axis tilt is not it though
Need both if anything
Will take flip over tilt any day unless it can do both
i think i've flipped it out once outside of times where the camera has to be low
i'd probably take an immobile screen over a flip, just to save on build cost and complexity
oh yea mine is this one
the way i hold it hasn't bothered me yet
i dont have a heavy prime tho
im constantly frustrated by not being able to shoot vertically from hip with Z6ii
cant see shit
ya
only sometimes, nothing a 1.4x can't fix
It would be nice, but I will just upgrade lenses and solve some of that
mm fair
500PF to 600PF does the job or close enough
ah i see
I upgraded from a7iii to a7iv so 24 to 33mp, not a huge difference but absolutely wouldnt go back to 24
this might sound dumb but sometimes i feel like a crop isn't that significant and then i look and i only have like 5 mp left lol
Exactly
those 9mp more saved so many pics already, especially my kingfisher photos
im happy i picked r5 over r6ii even tho i had no idea what i was looking for back then
Depends
I really like having 33mp for scanning negatives but thats a very specific use case 95% of people wouldnt even use their camera for
Lmao
If you are someone who really needs more mp and sharpness you would buy Medium Format anyways
high tier wildlife->a7rv or similar
pretty much everything else where high mp are needed -> hassy / Fuji gfx
Ready for day 2 for the kingfisher
Well this is good
yum
The Z9—and I think the Z8 too—has a tilt screen that tilts both ways. I really like it and use it often for both vertical and horizontal shots. I’m not a fan of flip screens either, at least not the kind on the Z fc. The only advantage of that one is that it’s better protected when flipped toward the camera.
This is really the way to do it
The Zfc type thing is nice for protecting the actual screen, agreed there
I saw that Sony screen on some review and thought by my self that it is really genius mechanism.
Pentax one looks quite wild.
they put lights on the back of the screen so you can pop the screen out and have your buttons illuminated at night
and a little light on the front of the camera so you can see what you're doing when changing lenses at night
The Z8 just has illuminated buttons
Lmao thats crazy
i LOVEEE these, gorgeous
Thanks if you want i have the edited shots
I know , I saw them in creatures. you're very talented!
the first ones being unedited shots is crazy
Thanks ❤️
wait... is this the only active category specific forum?
Pretty much
I was hoping there was a similar one for architecture :<
I'm needing help with a potential project for an industrial process plant
Doesn’t sound too niche that #💡・open-feedback or #🥊・gloves-off people can’t help you
I wasnt sure if posting there would be helpful since it's in the planning stages and no pictures have been taken yet
I threw some stuff up into the lounge and parlour but it basically just got passed over 😄
#💭・photo-lounge in this case if it hasn't been done yet
yeah lounge unhelpful
mandarin?
Yep
i'm amazed those exist in the wild
I’ve come a long way from this 😭
Ngl I think all that changed was that I got a new lens
They’re pretty rare here cause they’re exotic
Same with Egyptian geese we have so many
Lmao gotta avoid the land mines
LOL I met another photographer there and he got a pic of me getting my water level shot
This is how I do it everytime 😅
is that a fucken 100-500
u rich asf
Haha I made $50/hr tutoring for a while
Decided to treat myself
I’m still young I’ll make it back as a doctor
hell yeah
im rockin an r8 and an ef 100-400ii
sometimes feels a bit short but it's fine, i've shot birds on 300mm before
Yea really makes u work on ur sneaking skills
100-400 is almost as good as 100-500
Not worth the upgrade for most ppl
Is r8 full frame
it is
I’ll be giving a photo presentation at the local photography club. Any feedback on this draft is very welcome. It’s in Finnish, so the focus is less on the text and more on the photos and structure. I’m planning to show photos I’ve taken over the past 12 months. The presentation is titled Tits and Goldeneyes (it doesn’t sound quite as funny in Finnish 😅 ).
The idea is to start with the tits section, then show around five photos from each month, added with shots from any trips I took during that month. The presentation ends with the goldeneye photos. It’s still missing one month and one trip.
IMO the section heading slides should all be done in the same style as the title slide
the blurred images are a nice touch, but we end up seeing the clear version anyway and i think the sections would be broken up better with those nice green slides like the title has
im not sure what u guys think about the black side borders
and then the white top and bottom
one wrong move and ur cooked
lol
the Helsinki one works well enough that i'd keep the others stylistically, but maybe find images that blur out more easily
i love these water level shots
It will be both black on screen when giving the actual presentation.
i gotta get some good ones some day
the jay (?) retains a lot of definition
ahh ok
if all the header slides (Helsinki, Tiaiset, etc) are for trips or months, maybe it's worth finding nice location shots for them all
since the Helsinki one is so pretty
this slide presents with banding for me
nice negative space though
it works too, so does the swan
maybe i spoke too soon about headers
I will think about those header slides again. Is there too many pictures to show? I have about 1-1,5 h slot.
huhtikuu has some banding too
90 minutes for 150 slides
if you end up pausing to answer questions i can see that getting tight time-wise if the plan is to get through everything
I noticed it too. Might has something to do with compression when printing out to pdf. 🤔
Heinakuu has banding too
yeah, that might be it
export settings trouble when going to PDF?
that shot of the loon (?) on Heinakuu is excellent
i take back what i said about the headers, i like the photos as a concept
they're way better introductions than blank slides
That is true and I'm bit worried that there is bit too many photos to show.
One that has baby on board?
yeah
@green meadow is photography your career or just hobby
It is nice. Quite heavy crop thou.
our loons aren't nearly as colorful
It is actually a red-necked grebe
i was able to scroll through it in 15 minutes
6x that would've been enough time to sit and look at most of them
I have to be fast. Just fast forwarding trough and mic drop to the end. 🤣
Just a hobby
Thanks and I'm clad to hear it. I have some times difficulties to see it my self. Like picking those pictures I constantly think if they are good enough to show to people.
kinda frustrated that the left side is a bit close to the border
they definitely are
nice to hear and immediately feel more confident showing them
your landscape shots show that u have a great eye for photography
yeah these are excellent
i have yet to take a good landscape shot
I should do that more often, but i'm bit too enthusiastic for birds so i forget to take landscapes on our trips.
the snow landscapes later on in the presentation are really nice, and the variety of birds is commendable
so much to see
yea im too lazy to switch lenses
i am considering a second body for this
that is so true
Z30 or something
is this crop too tight
i can put my 26 on it and keep it in a pocket
unfortunately i took it super close to the left side
a bit tight i think
on the left in particular
And there is fomo when walking around with wide lens.
yes i agree
um, sec
i was very ocd about the left side after i took
i have another candidate for editing but it's noisier
this is the problem i run into
put the 50 on, and miss out
immediately behind this shot is a nice irruption of forest birds that i missed most of
Thanks a lot for both of you about your thoughts and ideas about the presentation!
ooh
can crop or adjust from here, i can make it larger if needed
can i send u the cr3 file and u expand that one
sure
it'll probably end up coming back as a .dng, not sure
i don't know how Ps handles that
should be, yeah
Light on these is awesome and mandarin ducks are always really something. 🔥
thank you! wasn't happy with the mid day lighting so i waited until the sun was setting
Nice sharpness on feather details too.
Same here, but I'm starting to realize that it doesn't always have to be super sharp. On some special cases it is OK to accept less sharp ones as well.
16:9 crop might work well on this one.
holy duck
that is mandarin duck?
i wanna get shots like that so bad
those are amazing
this was from my attempt at getting a shot by the water
I sent this earlier not sure if u saw but some dude caught me doing my water eye level method LOL
Flip the screen up then hold the camera super low
that's how i do shorebirds, yeah
i think i should try the screen flip thingy since i didnt do that when i was taking the shot
i kinda just put the camera down there an trusted in my af to figure it out lmao
im probably going out on monday for more stuff
thanksgiving holiday
also anyone know what this creature might be
i think i have another angle of it
american coot
their feet are MASSIVE]
i havnt done birb stuff in a looong time but when i upgraded my camera i started going outmore
cant be bigger than the pukeko right
zamn
warmer or cooler?
i think warm matches the sunset lighting a bit better
ok i settled for something in between but still on the warm side
Thank you!!
Ready for the last day of the kingfisher
woah
Well i have the shot but i stay here a little more to see if she come back
3 days of hiding for those
very nice
first one is so nice
thanks mate ❤️
nope i tried but the low light forced me to have slow speed
(1/80 mostly)
but i will go there all months so i will have thos kind of shots one day
Ahhh that sucks
Yeah I need to get back to my Spot, really easy to get Action shots there
my spot is really weird because she have 3 favorite spot so i don't really know where she will land but it's funny
Yeah they always have multiple spots
@scarlet tulip any good birding near Portland?
portland maine?
loads
what time of year will you be there, and will you have car access?
@dusty fog
Right now and yes
But like not a photography trip, here for other things so nearby stuff
if you can spare a morning, Sandy Point in Yarmouth has excellent morning flights
that's 20 minutes north of Portland
if you want something closer, Capisic Pond is a good spot
as is Evergreen Cemetery
for urban birding, the eastern promenade is good for gulls
go to Scarborough Marsh for waders, and from there you can get to Pine Point for terns and sea ducks
Biddeford Pool is a bit of a haul to the south, but it's excellent
this was Sandy Point today
it's called the Eastern Trail iirc
it passes through some salt pannes
former railroad track or something, so it's very long and straight
Sick I’ll look those up thanks
But she have like 5 fav spot in the same spot
She cannot pick one or 2
Yesterday there were about ten thousand barnacle geese in a nearby field, and among them was a single red-breasted goose. It took about an hour to spot that one special bird. Almost immediately after we found it, a goshawk appeared, and every single goose took to the air. The flying flock looked amazing, but the red-breasted goose didn’t land back in the same spot once they settled. So this is the only picture I managed to get of it. 🤣
Finding that bird was proper real life "Where's Wally"-task. 😅
I always think when photograph flocks that these will be awesome. Then when I look at final photos on computer screen every single one sucks. 🤣 They are not in focus or something is always off putting. Wider lens might be better for this kind of shots. 🤔
Birding
Hell yeah congrats
what do u guys think between 1 or 2? i think the darker background highlights the subject better but would like another opinion
auto white balance looks a little purple prolly from the leaves
hows this
To be fair it’s very hard to get critical focus on anything in a cloud of birds like that
yea depth of field is so annoying even when there's 2 birds a few inches behind one another
2 imo
ok i agree
females are bigger
Hard to tell probably
Long day of getting the yak almost ready!
wowee nice
Sheesh what r u looking for
Loons?
Is that a 400 2.8 with a 2x
yes, i use my 1.4 and 2x on it pretty regularly
and im looking for anything! fall migration is still coming through in the PNW and there's so many slow rivers and lakes around here
maybe get some more sea lions too 😄
I dont like when baby birds have weirdly large body parts lmao
Just like those
Swanphens/pukekos are cute because of the disproportionately large parts
DAMMMMN
hard day today at the falconry Thor worked more than good
some shots of the falconry of the day
very cool
thanks
heron kindly posed for this today
soo cute
i love bearded vultures
wow!!
Not mine, but inspiring
got my FIRST capture of a Pileated woodpecker just now. haze b/c through a tree branch lol, gonna see if I can clean it up
My buddy got this picture of me while we were at the birb sanctuary
The red winged blackbirds were all over us in this one particular area, especially since we had seeds (the sanctuary sells them so we could give them to the chickadees, but blackbirds don’t really care about whether it’s for them or not haha)
…as seen by this particular thief here who decided to steal straight from the source
everyone with a tilt wants a swivel
everyone with a swivel wants a tilt
i had a tilt, would love to have it back
warb
kinglet i think, which is just a warbler but round
hehe round
hella fat
eat all day, fly all night
is there a filter on ur lens or something
Also got these pictures of a weirdo heron that perched nearby
(affectionately calling him a weirdo obviously, I can’t take herons/egrets seriously lol)
That is true, but I’m more taken aback by their proportions, considering I’m used to finches and parrots that are closer to the borb variety
exhibit A: see this not-great-quality photo of a heron giving himself a good scratch that I keep just because it makes me laugh
…I think the low quality ends up making him looking more like a cryptid and makes it funnier I’m gonna be honest
Why are you like this
Legs that skinny and long can’t be practical
wym this is peak build
doesnt look goofy and ridiculous at all
What-no
Here is cute build, very nice very adorable
And this…is freaky deaky (/j obviously)
(Obviously still working on this, just did like a 5 minute edit for the joke lol)
marsh tit?
nahhh thats not fair
my dads wife got to hold a burrowing owl
Black capped chickadee!
Super neat, she’s so lucky!
Ahh interesting, yeah we dont have those here in germany
Yeah fr, actually not sure if she got to hold it but just chilling with it is so cool already
Lmaooo
friends partner went to portugal recently and sent a bunch of these back
not quite as cool as an owl but still cool
Yooo
Whats going on with its foot tho lol
no idea
looks almost like salt water residue or smth
honestly the fully extended neck is the only correct pose for the great heron
easily my fav bird
great blue heron looking silly

some sort of swelling from an injury or having roped wrapped around it's foot
background a little too bright for me r u able to drop highlights at all without it looking weird?
dropping local exposure does it better, but yeah
doing just the highlights decontrasts it a bit
yea the white background is always tough
Two fluffballs duking it out over Seed™
(Funny but also sad that the chickadee on the left was out of focus 🥲)
i like
yay
r5 and rf 100-500
- check out this video of the owl dropping a pellet
- whats going on with the flashes at the begining of the video? anyone know what that is
Will never not be proud of this great horned owlet I got
(Just realized it’s noisy af though
thats amazing
do u have the file still
maybe u can denoise
owlets r so cute
i cant wait to see one during breeding season
I do have the file, I’ve been trying to denoise it for a while now but I’ve not had much luck 🥲
aw man
youll get another shot dw
just edited this one
was gonna toss it
but i love how it turned out
ah
woww
a lot lighter than i thought
i also saw some nice birds there like barn owls
yea i want to see a barn owl ext
its a birds of prey sanctuary something
my camera lens had broken then so my photos were so cooked
this couldve been so much sharper if my af wasnt dying
oh wow i never looked through this folder properly
theres nice shots here
it might be worth editing some things from here ngl
@fast knoll heres the photos 💀
this was a mix of a skill issue and a broken lens
i gotta go back
LOL

YOO WAIT i think this sot turned out good hold on i need to edit this
idk

Harris buzzard
They are really common in falconry
Ah
Oh wow beautiful bird
a very old vintage lens that is soft
Indeed
Harris' hawk
If I'm not being stupid and mixing things up in my head
Big bird
lol my last TikTok got 2000 likes and someone asked for a beginner tutorial so I made a quick one
anyone wanna quickly fact check it just to make sure im not feeding them misinformation
Looks good
had to be a big songbird so the wing was out of frame lol
close though, got a still i think im happy with anyway
Does is jorb?
holy shit i watched the owl in the tree for 2 hours
then it flew to the ground
1/160 iso12800 handheld lol
i shot in log today
and i have 0 clue how to operate davinci 😭
how close was this?
hmm im bad at estimating
this was a 34.5 mp crop
at 500mm
i was kinda on a hill looking down a bit
here's a phone pic at 120mm showng the surroundings
quite close, nice
i detect very little difference, i'd say the left side
ok yea i think it's good enough lol
Cranes spotted
Just edited a kingfisher shot from a while ago in a bit of a different style, what do we think?
Cleaning more towards green and overall a bit darker/more saturated
Thanks
Reedited after recalibrating my Monitor a bit lol, this is more what I original wanted it to look like
Tiny bit cooler
ooh
Just arrived in Sri Lanka. It’s going to be a fun month
good luck
