hard to get rid of as well
gen-fill is fine for branches, but that's a ton of detail you can't get back
which one of these do you think
one of them has the subject mask a bit brighter but I think it looks a bit unnatural
Left side feels marginally better
thanks
1:1 aspect ratio for Instagram purposes
Gyrfalcon?
yessir
At my local zoo to take some bird shots
Falconry bird?
canada wins again
The Canadians have nothing to do with it, they just happen to be on gyrfalcon habitat
exactly
we're cooler
Yep, my local bird of prey centre
well i have some good photos to edit
Pee cock 👀
I'm a minor.
my first edit of the day
it's a Scarlet Ibis
i see it in the wildlife park near my home city
This Cassowary looks like it's going to make a suggestive noise
Like
French noise
Honhonhon
It's smirking and I don't like it.
he want your soul
I fear he does
This is
And for the texture it's also because there is no feathers
I feel like your pictures are sometimes waay to saturated, the tint etc is nice but just a bit too colorful imo
Still great pics tho
It's the standard saturation
I just changer the tint and i did color point edit
Birding at the hardware store
Lol thats crazy
Maybe the tint makes it look so saturated
But my edits are more pastel colored so maybe its just that lmao
I wanted that hot yellow tint and i desatured it wtf
The only oversaturated zone is the eye it's at +30 and almost max luminance
Lmao
Yeah like I said maybe its just that I personally would desaturate it, looks great either way tho
Thanks btw x)
Everyone hae it's own taste
But the peacock is saturated at +10
And sharpness at +30
is that lens easier to hold when you flip over the mount?
You shall not pass! I have never seen so angry willlow tit before. 😄
Here you see some European herring gulls having a development discussion: "You idiot...Why did you brought us here...Lakes are still frozen."
Lool thats crazy
Crane
Just saw it out of the car didnt have my camera with me lol
Should I go and see if its still there with my cam? Lmao
Worth a shot right?
Crane was already gone, just found this guy tho
Rip, nice pheasant tho
Also great lighting
Yeah and he was so close, think I got a few nice pics
That last one was from pretty far away sadly, think I can still save it tho
Those feathers are really beautiful in the sunlight
personally I prefer it in the usual position, on the bottom
carrying it upside down means you can just do bring it up to your face and it'll be ready to shoot instead of having to fumble around with it
pheasants look about as good as they taste 😋
you can still tell that it has just the best facial expression on though
Lmao true
Ohh mockingbird

Got woken up by a kestrel this morning lol
Looks more natural yeah
Crazy work, how do you edit these let alone how does ur brain create this, its beautiful
Thanks bro
hmmm, he miiiight have seen me
Gulp
was finding geese today but i noticed something in my shot ill edit up shortly that i like to see lol
always wanted that type of bokeh, didnt expect it on my bird lens though
...but i guess that lens is old
You just mean the form?
yeah
the other one i got is more circular
from a nerd perspective id guess aperture blades, first time ive encoutered it since usually id do close ups with the zoom (the lens is 25 years old, although id have to check)
will be something to try when i move on from the geese to the big blue herons again
here's a few after some edits, this lens does have issues given the mfd on it but was a fun way to go about the day just using one lens
between it and my zoom, guess i just love both, one is breaking my back though lol
couldnt find much looking it up but yeah, stopped down the aperture and it does match this kinda hexagon shape which while not really impactful makes it look a little bit less samey as everything else, meanwhile my 100-500 at a similar aperture would have smoother bokeh, last lens i had like this from memory (or that i at least noticed) was the ef 1.8 stm. Doubtful id notice it much at f/4 but will see, will be looking out for it
this would be 5.6 so not looking good for f/4 in regards to that shape lol, think it has 8 blades
oh hey its that one ckf
It's the one at pasir ris not the Alexandra one
Still got more to edit
Lovely clean backgrounds. WB on the Canada Goose feels a bit too warm, but that might just be my personal preference
I would agree
more noticeable in the black, could be a bit cooler but that's mainly personal taste yeah
I agree as well
i probably forgot to adjust the wb for the subject after changing the bg‘s wb
The white is certainly off I think. I would make it cooler for a more „true“ white
My top 1 shot of march
2mp crops🔥🔥
lmao
Oh wtf that 2nd one didnt crop
Lmao just found this from a few months ago, never edited for some reason
No clue why I never edited this, lowkey sick pic
Buzzard, nice
Black kite actually
Atleast I think its a black kite because of the tail which is a lot less forked than red kite
But the thick stripes on the neck plumage are very distinctive for kites
clean
looks like a kite, pointy rear wings
Yeah definitely kite, just not sure if red kite or black kite
Just had the most crazy birding walk ever in my local park
First had to help a Goose that was getting mauled by a dog that wasn't on it's leash. Luckily I managed to get it free and there were no super deep bite marks or blood. Then had a Kingfisher and golden eye get super close to me. Never seen them anywhere near my local park and it really isn't typical habitat for them
Lool nice
shitty dog owners can fuck around and find out
I got cornered by a dog with a pissy owner when I was a kid and I've had a bone to pick with people like that ever since
unfortunately now I can be criminally charged for my actions
Kingfisher is awesome tho
any pics?
Dogs need to be much more regulated than they are
The fact that any dumbass can own a living deadly weapon with zero oversight amazes me
Yeah, this was a person that wasn't the owner but was watching the dogs
Kinda felt bad for her since she was fully panicking
Yeah got a few pics, but pose is mediocre and lighting is bad
understandable
they'd be blamed for anything too which sucks
yeah the original owners even told her she could let the dog run off the leash, while it's not even allowed in that part of the park
Indeed they should be. Here someones are so worried about wolves and how dangerous they are. I think last time that wolf attacked or harmed human here was in 19th century or so. Nobody is worried about dogs or cats. I'm sure that there has been so many more accident caused by those than wolves.
It’s the same here with wolves, when the only real danger they pose is to livestock
Quick and dirty edit of the goldeneye
This is almost uncropped, it came so close that I hit the minimum focus distance quite a few times
Wait I exported it in 1080p
bird cupboard
wtf
When you hire a taxidermist from aliexpress
Re-edit of the golden eye, such a beautiful bird
Getting that close is a cool thing
Yeah, this was at 540mm and I still couldn't get the bird completely in frame, a little bit of the tail is out of frame
First time seeing it closer then like 20m
Think I'll go look for white tailed eagles and ospreys on thursday
Theres this huge lake relatively close to me where they both nest, never been there cuz its a pain in the ass to get there without a car tho
This wren was so fast and it was bit too dark to get sharp ones. But still it is really cute small bird. Specially that tail is something else. 😄
This one is probably bit sharper
Yeah I need to go either at 6am and be there around 8 or go at 9am and be there around 11 because of bus connections being terrible there
wrens are so cool
They’re larger than life, such loud proud birds
happy tail
It has a really big sound compared to its small size.
Long tail tits are my favorite
Yup lmao
Just like literally almost every time I see a raptor relatively close
praying to see some eagles and ospreys tomorrow
Eagle would be insane
white tailed eagles
European bald eagle basically lmao
sounds like you need your camera on you at all times smh
I saw a white tailed eagle in Amsterdam once
And saw a Sparrowhawk in my local park today
Goldeneye was also still present. Turns out it can't fly anymore which explains why it was in such a random spot
lool nice
Mornings become more fun, that’s for sure
Spring mornings are so fucking op for birding
They're all just active and screaming for attention
No eagles/ospreys
istg no wildlife photographer has worse luck than me
saw a few of these guys and tons of other lifers tho
Driving to another Spot to look for great crested grebes now
new vs old
yes you can see some default on the beak but it's not that bad
i guess its just a patience game
not really you just need to know how to mask it
old vs new
Well damn, those were easy to find lmao
LETS GOOO
Got exactly what I wanted hell yeah
Yeah, some old lady that also had a cam at the other spot told me they live here and are doing their mating thing rn so I went to this spot instead of straight home, was soo worth it lol
1st time seeing them and they were super chill
atleast 5 lifers in one day
HUH
Nahh
I was shocked by how fast and crazy they fly lmao
A lapwing in flight over the Ouse Washes at the joint Wildlife Trust and RSPB Reserve near Manea, Cambridgeshire.
Prolly did that in ps right
Ah yeah fair, also depends on where they're flying to
If they actually take off to go somewhere completely else they are pretty predictable and slow imo. But if they're just flying around close to the ground they can make some crazy manoeuvres
Ahh yeah makes sense
fucking heat haze
Didnt help that they were super far away so I need to crop a lot anyways lol
Nope all in lightroom
Insane shot
Thanks
Oh damn okay crazy
All edit i make is on lightroom
you have the raw ? i wanna try editing this one
Think its this one, was cropped pretty heavily lol
time to cook
mind if I also try some cookery
Sure
btw alex you sell them or you do that for fun ?
Just for fun, dont think anyone would actually buy them lol
I go to a lot of art shows and the photography booths are always so sad
Because the pics are trash or because noone looks at them? lmao
wdym ?
I mean usually I dont like the photography but even when theyre good I dont see anyone buying stuff
btw this saturday i go to a popular natural reserve of my region full of flamingo, heron, egret, and very lot more species
It's true that it's difficult but you have to find your style and your audience. I'm lucky I live in a region where a lot of people are nature lovers and we have a lot of photo expo on animals (I'm currently talking to the town hall of my town about doing one to sell some of my photos).
Where are you from again? France or something?
yeah france
very good country for wildlife
Yeah, only been there like twice and that was before I was interested in birds lol
Maybe I'll be in spain for a week in the summer time, not sure yet tho
i'll go north of france this summer and they have some strange birds like puffins
yeah but very few
Ahh damn
Well still got some time left to plan, definitely wanna go somewhere where I can see new birds lol
I have family who live in the north of France and they live in nature completely cut off from the city and they are surrounded by forest and plains and I was told that there are lots of species of wild birds
for now i still in my country bc we have a lot of bird variety (we almost have all species of the world)
Yeah theres also toooons of species left that I havent seen yet here in germany
Might go to the alps and hope for some vultures or something lmao
yeah they are a lot here
Niiice
i cooked this one today (old shot from december)
Unedited shots, not quite as nice as the other two tho
Its great
my tamron is good but it have a lot of focus problem and bad sharpness
with huge chromatic abberation
i like the 2nd one
200-600 sharpness
crazy thing that the aps c crop put the sony 200-600 to a 300-900mm
it's the sony 400-800 but better
fucking wild for bird photography
put 400-800 on apsc
Saw lots of canon 200-800 + R7 combo here. Might start seeing 400-800 + 6700 soon lol.
Trying to capture some blue tailed bee eater pics today. Couldn’t get a clean well lit shot last trip there
200-800 isnt rly sharp enough for r7 unfortunately
like you can still do it but you wont be getting 40mp of detail
400-800 is sharp enough its still kinda dumb tho lmao
(r7 200-800)
not too bad but you cant stop down cos its already diffraction limited lol
how do you find lakes like this?
Yeah
I got the birb
But thats all the way zoomed in the preview.
Birb was on the other side of the river
Will need another trip here
Its one of the biggest lakes in germany, definitely the biggest of the ones I can go to haha so wasnt hard to find
It became a 600-1200mm
Fucking wild
(That's why i planned to buy both)
Funny how this bird is called in english x)
Anyone here with an a7iv?
What lens do you use with the a6400?
I'm currently on a 70-350mm but I think I might start saving for a nice one
Get the 200-600
Nothing on that Level
get sigma 300-600
Tamron 150-500mm but i'm saving money to get the 200-600mm and 400-800mm
Just buy the 400-800
200-600 would be pretty redundant
Then again on a crop sensor, perhaps the 200-600 is better
With the crop factor it's better to get the 200-600mm bc it became a 300-900mm
The 400-800mm it's mostly for really close up photos of birds like portrait or face
Could also teleconverter the 200-600
Not useful for me with the crop factor
it's with the teleconverter ?
yea
Buying both lenses strikes me as a bit excessive

if i see just one lens is good enough then i'll don't buy it
that's why i'm starting with the 200-600mm to see if i need more
I mean the 400-800 is twice as expensive lmao
for the price nothing beats the 200-600
Nope it's 300€ more here
Lol either your 200-600 is extremely expensive or the 400-800 extremely cheap
for me its 1.5k for 200-600 and 3k for the 400-800
New
1800€ for the 200-600mm and aprox 2400€ for the 400-800mm
And used unit falls at 1500€ or even 1100€
Actually the 400-800mm is at 2200€
Dont think I'd go with the 400-800 because of f/8
even f/6.3 sucks sometimes
no way I'd want even less
I see some images of it at f8 and it's not that bad
it is as soon as it isnt middle of the day tho
bokeh can still be fine especially at 800mm Yeah
But smaller birds in flight at f/8 is basically impossible since you need at least 1/3200th for them
I think i'll buy a used 200-600mm
Good
Cheaper but same image quality
Fr
Even at f6.3 it's messed up sometimes
Yup lmao
Cant do it unless its really sunny
Thats what I want a 300 2.8 for at some point
Depends on several factors but yeah
sounds like a skill issue
I can understanding wanting more speed in the lens
Maybe lmao
Only really tried bif like 3x so far
atleast on smaller birds
not perfect sharpness, but it wasnt going to be lol, bit of a crash landing, slightly missed focus
interesting to come out of this
that's an amazing recovery, dxo?
topaz actually
im sure dxo could do it too though, used to use it over topaz but this newer thing seems good enough for me
prefer this shot of that duck, or its friend duck (there was many), much less complex but idk, think it looks nice
no herons there yet, but the ducks and geese must be there for fish opportunities, im sure theyll be back
Get that shot now

I thought of using black in the background, might work lol
Feathers are nice up close
through photoshop, or do you find it easier to export from topaz to a dng then open in PS?
for me i open it within lightroom as an external program, think it would be converted to a tif? or something but its not raw, should be better doing raw first i think though
usually i do any colour edits first and then this second if that makes sense, can be annoying if i make a mistake though lol
1.4x on the 500PF is acceptable
Oh. I was able to export from topaz to dng
here's the result
Today is the big day
I go to the one one most biggest and popular natural reserve in france of flamingo, ducks, heron, kingfishers and more
i find bird parks kinda mid
It's not really the same here
It's a natiral reserve and bird do wathever they want
oh damn thats hella cool
They are not in cage or something
just browsing through old throw away photos. Wish I had been in a better spot but it was here or stand in the middle of the river unfortunately.
nice, i like the pink in the back too
for the topaz dng thing, im not 100% sure which anymore, was checking, maybe when edited its tif, and unedited its dng? or something, would explain it since I tend to do edits first
that in mind guess it makes sense to do any edits before making it into the tif if that is the end result
I've only seen one wild owl so far
Wanna see one of the bigger ones
This owl is wild but used to humans in this natural reserve
And when they get injured they catch them to cure them
Migrating birds are coming back with a bang. From now on it feels like everything is happening at the same time. So it is really hard to decide what to photograph and where to go. 😃
summer birds are coming like ibis
i'm planning to get a bee eater
Bee-eaters are really spectacular. Never seen one thou. Those are really rare visitors here. 😫
Same story with hoopoes. It would be so cool to see those one day.
so happy to shot those
it's the mating season for herons and they building nests and there already some baby herons
bee eater
dudes catching smth idk if you can see it
A few shots from this weekend, pretty much only saw chickadees
What a day to shot some birds and enjoying life
Indeed
a7iv sharpness is so crazy
female and male eurasian siskin having a lunch together.
You upgraded ur body?
Around 1500, Rest was covered by a7iii trade in
And I'll get 150€ Sony cashback too
mf bought it new
four year old camera
A7iv is 2k on mpb so not really cheaper than new and I wanna have warranty if I buy something for 2k€ lol
That's a decent price
Happy with the autofocus?
what version is your favorite ? (for me the 1st)
I'd say a mix between 1 and 3. I don't like the right eye being completely lit up while the rest of the right side is black in the 1st version. But I like the way you handled the left side of the face a lot more then in the 3rd version
So I'd try to light up the right side a bit more and maybe tone down the right eye a bit on the 1st version
I'm not sure what bird this is. But it definitely seemed like it was flying or at least levitating. 😄
Seems like a long eared owl to me, considering it's long ears
That must be it. Thanks for your help in determining this one. 😄 👍
Good one
For me the 3rd one is weird that's why i changed the mask to do the 1st one
And the dark eye is the objective
I wanted to mask the feathers on the right but keeping the eye in light
I kind of like second one also, but it could probably be little bit wider crop. 🤔
I mean keeping it half like that but more room on up right and bottom.
Yeah i just wanted the half of his beak and keeping it at portrait
This edge of the mask here is probably too sharp to my taste. Otherwise really cool and dramatic look. 👍
And now I noticed that you mentioned exactly this just before. 😅
Hey what settings do u guys usually use when walking?
I set mine to 1/2000 incase flying birds etc
I havent seen much here in osterbottnia yet sadly
Oh, I thought they would come first there. If fields are free from snow there must be some geese and such.
It depends on how much light there is. If I'm example in a deep forest with less light I might go as low as 1/500 s but if there is plenty of light then 1/2000 s is good choice.
Depend of the bird i moslty shoot them at 1/2000 but 1/4000 for really fast birds
And if it's a sunny day i shoot at 1/1000 otherwise it's 1/500 or 1/250
Plenty of geese but havent seen many tiny birds
Soon really soon there is and I'm sure you could find some already. You just need to know where to look at them. If you are BirdLifes or your local bird associations member then tiira.fi is great place to look what and where other has seen.
A female Black-headed Warbler
Damn you got a 600 f4?
But that kestrel is like
Insanely far away lol
Shutter usually no less than 1/1250th but I change my settings depending on the situation lol
Well usually aperture wide open thats the only thing I rarely change
Never used anything but manual so I've gotten relatively good at changing settings fast
Yea i do! 600mm f4 mark 1 Is L
Yea it was far sadly 🥲 still havent got a closeup of one
Sick, I want something with a wider aperture too but Sony options are lowkey expensive lmao
Most realistic would prolly be a 300 2.8 but thats just 300mm lol
or 420 with the 1.4x tc
Nice
Doesn't Sigma have a relatively affordable 500 f4 for e mount?
Ahh yeah forgot about that one
But I think its around the same price as the 300-600 f4
So might just get that one as well
But first gotta hit the gym for that
Lmao true
Nah I'll just stick to my 200-600, its great
Yeah I might get one of the old Nikon 300 2.8 lenses later on. Will be fun to play around with when I also get a popup hide and such
is this sharp to u guys? havent edited yet
Seems sharp enough, focus seems to be ever so slightly behind the bird but its fine
damn even tho the focus point was on the birds eye
is that cropped
no thats the full image
Yeah it happens, especially with busy backgrounds like that
crop sensor on 600mm
pic u sent is only 5 megapixels
My Z8 struggles with busy backgrounds as well. It will say it's in focus but then instead is locked on the background instead of the bird
yea its from my 7d mark 2
some of them are only 2mb
i love using my 7d mark 2 for wildlife them my 600mm becomes like 960mm so
That has 20MP tho
20mp apsc crop is 9mp so I still dunno why its a 5mp pic but whatever pretty low either way
oh thats an apsc sensor alr
i might have set the jpg to small maybe
i shoot both raw and jpg
dont do that, wastes disc space lol
The best is to shoot only in raw if you edit
Looks like some haze to me, not impossible in a low to ground shot
Ait will do!
pretty heavily cropped but figured id edit anyways
i think he was chocked of something
my edits of the day
As basic as it gets but I personally really like this photo.
fluffy birb
What was the correct term...was it borb?
a borb i think is a round bird
personally i call them a blorb
thicc boi
True true. On a cold mornings they get really round here.
this one just after that taken a bath
Like this one
thicc boi 2
I have no idea how they survive through nights when it is -30 C or below.
thermo regulated feather i think
And they must be pretty good at changing energy in the food to heat.
How do birds keep warm? They have FEATHERS! What a fantastic solution—an incredible barrier against the cold. Feathers, which have no blood vessels, can't let the bird's body heat escape. Instead, they trap it inside.
that sound logic
Yeah it is really simpple, but still it keeps me amazed
their feather works like our jackets and coats
I know that ducks can have their body temperature at 41°C in winter
Yeah, but at least I tend to get cold even if I have several layers. 🥶
But yeah birds has evolved so that they survive, but I still think it is a small miracle 😄
for me it's good even on really cold condition my body temp is pretty high
the bird who really suffer of winter is the kingfisher even with thier winter feather on cold condition thier feathers can freeze and kill them
plus if the lake or the pond freeze
It must be difficult to get food from water and then try to keep warm. Dippers thou has some kind of substance that keeps feathers waterproof.
yeah that one of the death reason of the kingfisher
Yeah Kingfishers are just fucked if it freezes too much
No other way to get food for them
When it froze a bit this winter here in the Netherlands a lot of Kingfishers went to the coast where there are areas were salt and fresh water mix, so it wasn't frozen yet
gl
I found today exceptionally beautiful stick with a moss. I'm sure that sparrow hawk is also amazed by it. 😅
“Hey that isn’t food”
Good old classic stick. Nature photographers enemy number one. 😄
No luck today, saw like 4 buzzards and a marsh harrier but nothing close enough for good photos
Motion blur at 1/3200th, insane
AND THIS MAKES ME SO MAD THAT WOULDVE BEEN THE SICKEST PIC EVER BUT THE WING IS CUT OFFFFFF
what's your fav shot ? (it's for a photo exhibit)
Honestly you could get away with a bit of generative expand on this I think
Yeah, defitnely worth a shot!!
yeah it's a good one but it's hard to choose
I would like to make 6 photo prints for my exhibit but I don't know what to choose. What I just want is 2 in portrait, 2 in landscape and 2 in 5:2 format
for now it's those
but i'm always changing idk what to choose
Ohhh good idea
Generative expand is cheating lmao
It is funny how one first buys best equipment one can afford so that he can get sharp photos. Then suddenly that same person gets that feeling of being great artist and turns shutter speed intentionally to completely wrong direction if sharpness was still the goal. But never the less outcome ended up being quite nice. Or what do you think?
and it doesnt feel the same. Even others might not notice anything you still know that outcome wasn't achieved completely by yourself. 🤔
Yeah 100%, thats why I usually dont use anything like it
Even just adding some background feels bit wrong but I admit that I have done it few times.
Only thing I do is remove sticks/leaves sometimes, never added anything to a pic before
Ah I changed the background once but not really at the same time lmao
Here
Used this background so only half fake since it was just from a different angle
Lmao
Yeah I have done some cleaning as well...with cloning tool and generative fill. And few times added some background so that composition works better.
But some how ai noise reduction doesn't fell like cheating.
Yeah I use that on every pic lmao
Wouldve been great
same here
Looks good. And it feels bad when wing tip is so close of being inside the frame but still so far away. 😫
also if case is being sharp or not then it usually is not. 😅
looks really good 👌
Thanks
I'm glad I'm not the only one
Yeah lol need to use 1/4000 for small birds
Hell yeah lets blind the birds
only a short term thing
they'll recover
when the bird don't want you to take a photo of him because it has "personal privacy" (yeah someone say me that because for him animals are not consent to be taken in photo)
id say bird photography is a form of conservationism, we're spreading awareness through photography, it's a fair trade
This one is f/6.3 1/6400 s and iso 4000
yeah, even that 1/3 stop affects surprisingly lot.
And small birds needs that really high shutter speed, because they are closer and usually you cant track them so speed difference between sensor and bird is much higher.
I can see why you like the 300/2.8 for the small birds, just so much better with light gathering and probably easier to track with
1/6400 damn
My reactions are not fast enough for tracking small birds but f2.8-f4 is great for those kind of shots. Also I have noticed that f-mount vr with high shutter speeds might cause some motion blur or something similar. I think I get better results vr off. That first 300mm vr broke down within used warranty time so camera store changed that lens to newer version with vr2 (Well I had to pay bit extra but still it was a bargain). But somehow I feel like this new version or this exact copy is not as sharp as the old one were.
To be fare that is only kind of on field experience and specially with action shots sharpness is factor of so many things that it is hard to compare.
It is probably just my imagination. First one is new version and second is older lens.
For me it's to show wildlife is everywhere even for rare birds when i show some of my photos ppl don't believe it's living here
Example with the owl, flamingo, kingfisher and ibis
the hardest bird i have shot thus far is the stupid common king, i tried to track a dive, but its nigh impossible
kingfishers suck ass
I hate them
30 hours no single pic
L bozo

It's alright I have spent about the same hours and have only some shitty pics to show for it
L
I spent 48h to get the shot and it's totally worth it
(You need to know his fav spot)
Everytime i go i see it on the same tree or branch
Not accessible in the spots I was at
Even put up branches for him and he never used them even tho they were perfect lol
Just insanely unlucky
To me they look similar, but as you say it’s hard to tell in the field
VR at high shutter speeds causing blur is an issue I note as well, yeah
Thoughts on this one? i feel like its too dark and not sharp or is it okay?
this is unedited
The unedited is good sharpness right? Idk why the other one is worse
Print ordered for my photo exhibit of may 23 24 and 25
nice
Now i just need to have the confirm of my participation of the event
Cute head
Really nice pic!!!
yeah i like the white mask it make creamy
i just go on #🖼・photo-sharing damn i'm happy to go an post on #🦀・creatures

damn that sharpness
Yeah its amazing
the 200-600 is insane
Sound is probably fucked got you guys too right? lmao
not really
Huh weird, for me its just white noise basically
But yeah, easily best investment for wildlife photography
you are hyping me for the 200-600 lol
Lmao hell yeah
with my photo exhibit i'm going to buy it
and for my Tamron I'm going to sell it to a friend who does car photography on circuit
Sounds like a good plan
Thats great
and for the 200-600 i will buy an used one
Good for her lol
yeah x)
I wish I would have photography friends to go chill in the forest with lmao
Come to the Netherlands and chill in the forest here
Weird
come here guys we have a lot of kingfishers and flamingo (and a lot more)
yall only got dunes and fields, netherlands forests are a conspiracy
Yeah mediteranian countries are actually op for birding
Romania is crazy too, really wish I had my birding setup already when I was there last summer
my region is the most favorable for most birds even for forest birds
Yeah the diversity in France is crazy
The project I have when I have my own house or land is to make a permanent hide with a water and food point (in winter for food) for the birds
It's pretty chill, but we have no "real" nature if you know what I mean
Like everything feels so planned and planted by humans
And you basically can not get anywhere without a house being within 1km of you
Around Frankfurt right?
Yes, we have a huge variety of birds and where I live, we have the most bird species of the whole france
it ranges from an ibis to a vulture
the variety of birds is crazy
Yeah that's a fun project I wanna do somethime as well
If the housing market in the Netherlands ever gets normal again 😭
and to make the most of people, put it live 24/7 on twitch and youtube
Nah thats mrvl or someone else, I'm from Hannover
I have a friend who does this and he has had owls and even a kingfisher that hunted frogs
Wish I could do something like that too
My aunt has some land. I'm going to see if I can start installing a small permanent hide on it
Aaah yeah thats one of the lesser regions in Germany for nature
Yeah
My current projects are:
Doing photo exhibits
Buying the Sony 200-600mm
Selling my Tamron 150-500mm
Going to Africa or Canada for a year
This summer I'm going on vacation to the north of France, I can't wait (my uncle lives in the countryside surrounded by dense forest)
Fun fact : in my region, Bouches du Rhone, alone, we have more than 6 nature reserves
the Camargue, the Alpilles, the Etang de Berre, the Verdon Gorges, Mont Ventoux
I have quite a few choices because they are all different places: mountains, plains, forests, sea, ponds
I would love to be a recognized photographer in my region and to achieve this goal you need a high level of skill
damn right between switzerland/italy and spain, must get insane amount of migratory birds there too
In Camargue it is a very active region in terms of migratory birds
tbh its 95% marketing, most of the people active in this channel are probably in the top 5-10% of wildlife/bird photographers, just that some people are way more lucky and get fame/sponsored

this is all birds we have in Camargue
lol didnt even know that we get loons here in europe
just for this region it's really huge
yeah it's rare to see it but there some
i talked one time with a famous photographer of my region and he told me i have decent skills and i will maybe really fast famous in the region
my region got almost 350 different species of birds
Bird-Richest Regions in France
🥇 Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (PACA)
Most bird species in mainland France (~350+).Key area: Camargue (wetlands, lagoons, scrubland).
Iconic birds: Flamingos, Herons, Rollers, Bee-eaters.
🥈 Nouvelle-Aquitaine
Atlantic coast, pine forests, Pyrenees.Great for seabirds, forest and mountain species.
🥉 Occitanie
Mediterranean coast, Cévennes, Pyrenees.High diversity of migrants and breeders.
Really nice and honesty is great, but I always try to crop so that bird food is not visible. I think it gives illusion that photo is taken somewhere bit more "wild" or natural place.
That list is breath taking. 😵💫
Winter backfired here. Bad for birds but great possibility to get nice photos.
Thanks, yeah true would be a good idea
Not really possible with that pic tho I think
Damn lol, its like 20c here in germany rn
quite big difference but it should get warmer here too.
With help of generative fill but otherwise probably not.
Damn that does look really great
Yeah there's a lot
@green meadow Yo Antti, do you ever photograph around karelia region much?
(i assume so)
So I rented the rf 200-800 and holy shit does that ting obliterates backgrounds even at f9. Its pretty nuts in terms of sharpness too
yeah it is
I live in Northern Savonia so most of my photos are from here. But Northern Karelia is next to Savo so I visit there now and then. Specially Places like Koli and Nurmes.
Oh i see cheers
Hows the bird selection round there?
Im assuming its very good
Ill be on the ru side of things
Just evaluating whether i should bring a tele or stick with my 50mm and cope with no bird photos
Well tele is always good choice in my opinion 😅 , but there is some birds already an main migration is going on, so I think bird photo opportunities should be good. At least if you are at the right place at the right time. 👍
Prayge
im trying to get from Ruskeala to Murmansk
So surely some decent spottings
maybe some bears
I'm sure that tele is a good choice for that trip.
yeah its the obvious answer i suppose x)
Somehow still has motion blur even at 1/4000??? Focus isnt on the eye anyways but wtf lol
This is kinda cool
Really nice pose
Skill issue?
guys this is it this month i'll buy the sony 200-600mm
Might be lmao no clue
HELL YEAH
I have more than €3,000 saved in savings accounts and I am selling my Tamron 150-500mm
It cost me €1500 second-hand and since I'm selling my Tamron for €500 to a friend, it only cost me €1000
mega stonks
the sharpness is going to be crazy
hell yeah
@gilded yarrow you have the 200-600mm so explain me about the lens (better to have a personal advice)
Theres nothing to explain really lol

Can just shoot wide open without it being softer than stopped down
Make sure to not have focus limiter on accidentally, that made me miss a shot or two already
And its heavy heavy
Around 2kg I think
Ahh good
I really can't wait to see the autofocus and sharpness
because on the Tamron one it's a disaster
Has 3 buttons which basically act like one just in different positions, can set it up to whatever you want through the cam
like the speed ?
I dont use it but you can assign pretty much all functions to it
What most people use it for is a custom settings preset which for example sets the shutter to 1/3200, f6.3 and auto iso for action shots where you dont have time to change all the settings manually
yeah it's like the custom back focus
i got a below avg shot finally
at least the camera is doing what i expect it to do now 😄
Funny looking mates. I'm not sure if that blue tit could look any more annoyed than that.
ohh nice one
It is kind of difficult to get two birds relatively sharp at the same time. Some luck is always involved so that they are on the same focal plane (is that right word for that they are at the same distance from the sensor?).
yeah the one i'm proud of is two flamingos fighting
both in a sharp focus
with some action involved it is even harder. So yeah that is greatly done. 👍
Yeah it's really harder but with good settings it make it easy
i need one of those canes plus stools things
I swear my knees were utterly fucked after that
not sure which cane seat is best
The American Coot, its pretty uncommon where i live so I was really happy to have the 200-800 when I saw it
LET'S GO ! my bank accepted my money transfert for the Sony 200-600mm
BABIES
Ofc I do, only came to check for them lmao
Yeah, not sure if the ducks are breeding here as well
Think they are just not sure where
Theres coots breeding but coot babies look like zombies lmao
just a screenshot so not great quality
im struggling to work out what aspect ratio and crop works best for this with the bird as the subject
any ideas?
this is before any cropping
I would probably put bird to the right upper third. Not the easiest photo to crop. 🤔
thanks, i'll try something like that shortly

were you thinking something like this?
i tried putting the bird in the centre as well with a tighter crop, which do you prefer?
Yeah this is what I meant but leave bit more room behind the bird and don't clip the tail off bird needs it for flight maneuvers. 😄 Also 4:5 aspect ratio might serve well in this one. Centered is OK too but I fell like it has too much space above the bird. Also some slight local adjustments to the bird might make it pop out bit more.
I would probably do something like this. 🤔
And this is just a fast example and bird seems to be bit too bright now.
I'm still trying to get panning shot of goldeneye. Light were great, but I wish I could get bit closer, but sadly not possible.
It just looks angrily me from a distance and doesn't come any closer. 😅
Everyone seems to be just staring at me lately. 😄
Insane shot
Thanks
thanks i didn't even notice the tail wasn't fully in frame 😅
It wasn't clipped that much, but tiny details makes the difference. 😀
ordered !
crazy lighting
Finally a sharp picture. Forgot the birds name in english
Am i too high above the water? Or is this ok?
it is horned grebe and lower you get the better
I got a few lower but then my pictures were abit dark. But is it saveable?
You just want to be low enough that the plane of focus doesn’t encompass the water in front of and behind the bird
eg
This way the background is defocused, and the bird is emphasized against blur rather than sharpness
Does anyone here know if there is a way to see if a certain specie has been sighted recently and where?
Where are you from
Québec, Canada
I’m trying on ebird but it just gives me the map with purple rectangles which doesn’t help
zoom in further
Yeah I found it
The map they give you on the specie isn’t as accurate as the bigger one
Ayt thanks guys
Ahh damn, in germany theres another website which gets used way more than ebird thats why I asked
why i can't see that in my app ?
could be ebird is unpopular in France
this is but i need to go on the website to see the same thing
yeah but empty
no hotspots in your area?
it's all crowd sourced data so if no one is using the app it'll have nothing to show
On the website there is the data
truly a birdless wasteland
oh i found why because the detection radius was at 1km

no i see theres a lot
hidden, or so it thinks. I like these birds but mostly waiting for more interesting ones
loons are starting to get colour here
just to add inaturalist is also a similar app, usually i check both to see whats around
my aunt is good for my permanent hide in his field now i need to see it and preparing the equipement
she had 4000km² of field so i'm good
Fucking hell i always see owls when i drive and no camera.. literally a curse to have a cam
Hieno!
I only saw 1 wild owl so far lmao
Saw a crow fighting a raven yesterday, the size difference when you see them next to eachother is insane
When I got back home from a trip there was a grey owl on my tree, the security system was still active, i grabbed my camera to get a shot and the alarm was tripped as i opened the doors..
Yeah and then raven next to a eagle seems to be a tiny bird. 😄
gorgeous lighting on these!
nothing a little content aware remove can't fix
Lets gooo
Congrats!!!
A fucking beast
The autofocus is crazy way more reactive and better than the tamron
I don't tested it yet on the filed but just in a classic use it have a decent focus
Way more reactive than my tamron
felt that way when i upgraded as well
but the 400-800 is like noticably faster than that which is crazy
Crazy thing too is the 200-600mm is more valuable on an aps c sensor it became a 300-900mm
Damn the size difference
lol
honestly speaking its not that big/heavy imo
after feeling the 600 f4
It's still a big baby
Now im good for more than 10 years with this one
the next one is probably a 600 f4
at least for me
no sensible upgrade/sidegrade exists atm
even a 200-600 g2 probably wont really entice me
And if they do it there no reason to go on if if you already have the 200-600mm
Sony 600 f4 is just 900g more which is crazy to me
Ooooh congrats very cool
Thanks, yeah I got really lucky that day haha
for me, it feels really light
cause the balance is good
400-800 is very very front heavy
some people say that weight balance doesnt matter, but trust me it does when it comes to superteles
Yeah I meant that 3kg for a 600f4 seems really light
who says it doesn't matter lol
A very huge baby
Just need to add a battery grip & maybe external Monitor to balance it out then
Yeah but you get used to it, especially since like 1/3 of the length is the lens hood
Yeah fr but the size difference between the sony and the tamron is fucking wild
Tomorrow i'll go test it in my local lake
Should put them next to eachother while extended to make it fair
Think the difference isnt that big then
Yeah but for the same size you have a decent image quality and 100mm more
It's not really useful in ff but in aps c it's really notable
Now i'm on the white gang
Yup
And damn i've never see an autofocus so reactive and precise
Haha yeah its great
looks like a decent size
Yeah it's a monster
I forgot it's basically the same size as the 180-600
thought it was bigger for some reason
looks bigger when on a small Sony body lol
true
I want to touch it
You touch it you are gay

saw crows fighting an owl not that long ago
he seemed annoyed lmao
A black kite from a bird of prey centre relatively got chased away by crows a couple of weeks ago and was found 90 miles away 5 days later
there was a crow shoot in my municipality recently
all the city folk got riled up about it
after so many springs i finally got this guy with full colours, the not-so blackbird
common grackle
birding at 5pm was interesting, ospreys fishing, these guys, red-winged variants, geese fishing as well, all while the sun was very bright/harsh in some cases
ospreys are so quick but he was also catching things
might be a reoccurance
Birbs
my body was shakey today so its not as sharp as it could be but its still a cute shot
borb
borb nice
the 3rd one ain't a bird!!
Okay the 200-600mm is my favorite lens
I tested it in bird condition and the autofocus, the bokeh, the sharpness, EVERYTING in this lens is insane
Even on far subject it's wildly sharp
first actual outing with the new lens at a local park at sunrise, and i got lucky
that pose
white goose 1, happy to finally see one in person
they are common is some farms but yeah they are difficult to get sometimes
they practically dont exist where i live

here theres a lot on farms and public parks
someone a long time back let two of these geese free and theyve made a park their spot pretty much here, now theres about 6 of them
btw decent bokeh
generally here youll get canada geese
thanks, this was with the 100-500, 500 f/4 didnt shine for the circles here but i did get a few other shots where its one of the keepers. F/4 kinda just blows out the background/foreground which is great for certain shots, 7.1 is perfectly fine too though
