Again
Moments of extremity =/= day to day happenings
thats not Terra
You cannot argue both ways, that they don't care and simultaneously won't
you wont get away with burning entire spires to the ground in humanity's homeworld
the entirety of the Imperium's bureaus are stationed there
Aodyri you're really bad at this. Just saying
they will do something or object to it
Did you read the book?
Yes I have.
Too long and some terribly uninteresting characters. I wanted more Saul Tarvitz and Lucius, instead I got the most whitebread loyalist of a traitor legion ever in Solomon Demeter.
Theres literally 0 contradictions.
Because this is EXACTLY what happens. A spire of the Inquisition is attacked miles from the imperial palace.
Every 40k book since the 80's has established terra is shithole
so now we are just jumping from point to point since people that arent even me prove your points false
so much for calling me troll lol
No-one has proven anything
We have but okay
You are. As you jump from point to point as I address it and try to get you to actually respond?
Also can we please not spoil the Vaults of Terra books for people, regardless of opinions on the quality of said books
No-one has proven anything https://i.4cdn.org/v/1658176761467225.gif
Ah dammit, embed fail
Oh well, still applies
Yeah, rip
Since its not a gen-chat and supposedly a bookclub chat
Though I think it says a lot here that I'm one to believe newer 40k fans overemphasize the Imperium's awfulness and even I'll call Terra a shit hole of the highest caliber
Absolutely
AFAIK it’s all gifs cause people were spamming book chat with it
and yeah that
Nah image itself wouldn't post either. I tried that first
Aqshy had to bring the ban down from on high
imperium bad but also like
its where people live
Yeah Imperium bad but like all settings it's not black and white, without context, or justification
imperium bad because emp dumb and logistical nightmare

I'm reminded of Tex of Tex Talks Battletech describing how new military equipment is made. It devolves into two minutes of him just saying "graft"

real life governments cant use powerpoint
its too hard
So not that different from real life
Checking in! How's everyone's book progress coming along? 🙂
Still collecting my gotrek books so not quite 40k 😂 still no Esienhorn or Cain books so no contribution from me ;_;7 😂
Oh and Gaunt's Ghosts obviously
I'm on chapter...11 I think? I'm noticing some parallels between Eisenhorn and Mathias Thulmann, Witch Hunter.
Both in characterization, being an inquisitor, and plot structure.
Orite it was disabled
That wouldn't surprise me
Though once I get all the books in order I'll show a snappy picture of them standing in a row all beautifully
What do you think of them so far then?
I finished Xenos and started on Malleus
I only read Xenos for the first time last year, just gonna cliff notes it when it comes time for the book club discussion
That holds for book one. Matthias doesn't really have a character arc, he is just "The Witch Hunter". Gregor definitely has a character arc.
Yeah I'm not quite done yet haha
Hmmm, they're definitely 40k so I'm still forming an opinion coming from fantasy
😂 QUALITY OF THE LORE is an endless moebius strip of confusion and inconsistency at times
is this your first 40k lit you read?
yup!
if it is, the coffee talk should be a lot of fun
ohboy
gonna be a lot of ffun then
looking forward to it even mroe
Forgot to report in last month but finished the HH novel Fulgrim.
Thoroughly enjoyed it even if the Dorian Gray inspirations were a little on the nose.
Overall strong novel and come on…who doesn’t love the Noise Marines?
The Maraviglia scene was the best part of the book, the rest of it was hit and miss imo
I couldn’t bring myself to care at all about Solomon Demeter, pretty uninteresting character
Unless youre rich or in a position of power. Just like 40k terra lmao
Lmao fulgrim book is amazing
There’s a fucking romance triangle in it, is amazingly dumb and awkward
I JUST got to the ||torture scene with the needles and omg???||
40k goes much harder with the grim dark than Fantasy, it feels like
It absolutely does. People are harder and nastier and more self serving.
I was a bit cautious at the start, but it really picked up after the first quarter.
Enjoying it?
I'm currently on Abnett binge, read all Gaunt ghosts novels+short stories, read through Eisenhorn, Ravenor and I'm on first Bequin book. Plan on first 3 Horus heresy books
my original plan was to go through only Gaunt so I can have a commisar contrast to infamous Ciaphas Cain which I plan to read later on
Pls read ciaphus immediately
just one and a half Bequin books and I'm right on it
Xenos has some action sequence flaws but ciaphus is goated with the sauce
Felicia tayber is the best written mechanicus character in any of the books
noice, will probably start in a month or so, normally I read at work when it's not busy during autumn/winter because I'm a literal gatekeeper at a castle so you really don't have anything better to do, reading in summer it's kinda hard with all the tourists invading
after work it's too hot, my dungeon at work is at least cold and comfy
you might want to intersperse the cain books a bit
cause they're all very samey imo
so gets a bit draggy if you do like 3 in a row
Both Gaunt and Cain are very "special" commissars and are far from what a commissar usually is (which doesn't mean they're not interesting or good characters, of course!).
That's exactly what happened to me when I read the first three Cain books, they were all structured the same and felt quite repetitive, making me lose interest and I stopped there. Reading something else between two of them sounds like a very good suggestion to avoid that.
yeah
you put into words exactly what i felt
i still very much enjoy ciaphas but defi intersperse them a bit
Just finished Pariah and boy did Dan write the shit out of that book
when I am waiting on another book between either Gaunt's Ghost of Cain's series to be released I alternate between the two, of I start to read another series that randomly caught my interest.
that said, I need to pick up the next book in the Farsight series.
Did book 3 of Farsight come out?
I don't think so, I know book 2 was released recently
Oh, thought I had missed a book. Farsight is cool, having a character "learning" the horrors of 40k while being relatively sane and intelligent.
