at some point I went from no scales to why do i have so many scales
I got some of FMW's beans and been loving some proper grinds as a start, was just doing Fresh Market coarse grinds for a couple years now
Was always decent for the first few pours but obviously got stale over time
I hit up fresh market so often I know what you're talking about
I enjoy their beans enough honestly, especially compared to a lot of what is on the shelves
I mainly use the french press for spiced coffee these days, I think somewhere in the neighborhood of 1:12.5 to 1:14 is where you would want to be, on the lower side if you add milk.
Would probably start at 1:13 and go from there.
For grind size I'm coarser than "V60" but finer than "French press"
I do not add milk, and not to be super noob but is the ratio just referring to bean > water amounts (grams?)
I am still trying to dial in the grind size, I did 120 clicks per the guide on the grinder but still seemed too fine, the plunge went down way too easy
K6 btw
Woof, oops
Hello there
I still think you need a few moreā¦. And more timers too š
Yeah. A ml of water is a gram since thatās how we define grams so itās interchangeable here.
Yes. Bean to water. 15g coffee to 240g water is 1:16
Yeah sometimes just feels like I should have just gone with an acaia
I like the buttons more on the Acaia, but battery life doesnāt seem as long as the bookoo I think
I bought pearl? used for like $100
For French press I find you can use a lot for different grind sizes, always push the plunger down slowly whether itās easy or not. An issue with going too fine or plunging too fast is grit
Thatās exactly what I ran into, thought I was just too strong but Iāll be purposefully slow going forward
None at all itās so weird. My mom and sister have the same thing, thought I just didnāt inherit that
When my son was born my peanut allergy evolved to ANYTHING that grows on birch trees cause apparently peanuts grow on birch. But it was just to the pollen so if that item was processed cooked I was ok - super weird. Almost died trying to eat some way too expensive cherries from h mart
Switched allergy meds and started immunotherapy shots and that problem is much better
I really need to get to an allergist
I just donāt want to get pricked by a million needles
Glad to hear itās better
Also, @granite holly is one of my oldest bestest buddies who just bought a K6 and is trying to make some tasty brews
Oh I thought he was being serious when he said heād never met you
I was just being a little stinker
He was only the best man in my wedding so no big deal really
Yeah the context really helps now
And vise versa
lol
I learned how to brew coffee with our French press. Iāve tried a few other methods to make what my wife calls ādrinking coffeeā, v60 switch, aeropress, americanos, landed back on French press.
My brother got me a press and electric kettle back in like 2019 and I have enjoyed it ever since
Glad you can help him cause I have no clue on French Press haha
Medikit has already been an invaluable resource and I appreciate it
Iām very much oriented around making her cups which are a bit too concentrated to drink straight.
Before I joined this server I was experimenting making āespressoā with a super fine grind at very low ratios in the French press trying to make cappuccinos. My little brother came for thanksgiving and just called me out said I needed pressure and that I should join the meticulous kickstarter.
And now here you are, afficionado
A Met would be so coolā¦
Flair 58 was on sale for cyber Monday after he left and I was like whoah this is like a manual metic
Mine uses these square looking things that have 8 needles. They put them on your back. Like 5 of them in 1 minute. You canāt feel it cause itās not like a real shot.
Only uncomfortable part is if you have a reaction that little spot will by a little itchy for 15 minutes then they come in and put itch cream on it
Oh thatās not too bad
Only the dog and cat one was a shot
I donāt have much grind size guidance beyond not too fine and not classic FP boulders. For drink strength I would focus on the ratio first and dial that in to what you like. I used to measure the water by mL but one of my scales handles our heavy french press just fine so now I pour into the French press after taring.
I did both of my kids at 6 months old cause I have a ton of allergies
It was like $300 with no insurance
Our baby had an FPIE back in December so we have to get him checked out again at 9mos
That sucks!!
Some of friends kids have it
I want a met for no reason at all. I donāt even drink espresso 98% of the time
Are you going to get him into soup?
Itās wild I went from only caps to mostly filter over the past year. I want the met too but the more I see the more I feel like waiting.
Iām not sure if Iāll ever use my gaggia much as I just sort of generally dislike the water reservoir.
They have DE1 on sale 20% off... Just sayin!! https://decentespresso.com/de1_sale
(I know, still a dang expensive unit...)
Is 'soup' the fancy drip he's made for me a couple times
You spelled pour over wrong
I need to start drinking lattes 24/7 so I can learn latte art. I just need a couple basic designs
But Iām not that interested in itā¦ā¦ā¦..
There is only one design you need to master...
I made soup while we were playing magic in Tampa for Kyles wedding
I think you drank it?
Its like a very concentrated coffee
Shoebox Mr. Tadesse Teko if I recall
Yes thatās what I was thinking it was / referring to
I definitely had a cup or two
Yessir
Damn. I still got an elf deck of epic proportions. You guys ever play local?
I haven't played since boy scouts
We have a little group that plays commander every so often and then we've done some prereleases at Peach State
I'll admit im a bit of a casual
Mostly play to hang with the boys
I can never unsee penis head
Dang just looked it up. Never heard of that game mode. I have some old cards that would make that game mode interesting.
You probably got some $$$ sitting in your old cards
Wish I had a few black lotus . š„²š„²
I just launched primer everywhere thinking I secured the lid. It was a 5 minute clean up. I think that means Iām lucky today
Every day after seeing the headlines
Disregard. It was more like a warning
Inspiration from @jaunty ice ifykyk
Iām late to the party. I completely to my understand the peanut allergy issue, and it really stinks that people have those allergies. I belong to the peanut-loving group. I love peanut butter. To anyone who wants a coffee that tastes like peanut butter, you may consider Dragonfly Espresso Crema Dolce. It actually tastes just like peanut butter
Oh man I could have given you some I have too many
6 pack like $8
Your either allergic or you love it is my general understanding of peanut butter
I canāt understand why people like it
Also me the moment my body knows itās peanuts
Right. There is nothing in between
main motivator for my purchase right there.
I love peanut butter sm
Yep and I have a bigger one but it doesnāt have a good home
Yo what do y'all do for a living that you can afford specialty coffee and magic! Lol
I'm out of the loop on this one. What am I looking at?
I used to buy in bulk and sell to my scout troop. Paid for part of my collection.
Nice. You make it all the way to eagle?
After my little brother saw me spend and spend on coffee he told me to avoid wine.
Yessir!! #25 of T192 in St. Cloud FL. š«”
Heck yeah man. Me too!
Humidity sensor. @jaunty ice uses it to dial in coffee š¤Æ
I was in the wine industry for a bit. Iāll save you the headache - if it tastes good drink it.
If you want to drink expensive bottles buy $75-$100ish/bottle of something that ages well and are not that old and drink them in 8-10 years
Thatās next level
I would be useless camping, but happy to help if you tell me what to do.
I havenāt been since I was a Cub Scout but the outdoors have been calling me lately
Thatās not true š I bought some to see if I needed to fix our hvac humidifier, I donāt think it went under 40% all winter. But I had so many I put one near the coffee station to see how it might be impacting retention
My story is betterā¦.
Hmmm 44.5% today? Letās increased by 1 degree Celsius and just water by 5ppm, increase dose by 0.1g
Thanks. Iām at 44% today so Iāll do 1C, .1g and 3ppm!
Brewed Lardera Yellow Honey coffee beans. 19g in 20g out in 24 seconds.
Lardera occasionally offers free sample packs of coffee. I think i got like 10 packs with 57g each. They are great for brewing for the Starbucks coffee folks. I just keep them in the freezer, but i decided to try these out.
Will pull a slightly longer ratio next time, but still a syrupy motor oil shot. Which sometimes hits the spot. š¤¤
Love the cup. 1:1 and sounds like itās pulling a bloom shot?
Blooming
It was 4bar for 4 seconds then 9bar for remaining 20 seconds.
Next time Iām over I want to try a 1:1 I donāt think Iāve tasted that before
I am a cup addict too. šš Love that thing.
Are you in the mugs group?
I have poked my head in there a few times. I try to avoid it. I'm trying to restrain myself!! šš
Ya, that group costs a paycheck
We should try Cantina one day. I've heard its solid for those kind of shots!
There is a place in Lexington, KY with a Slayer and I was chatting with the guy there on a slow Sunday morning when I was the only patron. They used one of the onyx coffees. I asked him for a plain slayer shot and he made me something that was damn near espresso whipped cream it was so thick.
I think the vibratory pump of the DE1 does take away from texture. Like I'm not sure if the fact it's basically pulsing water a thousand times a second renders the fines differently or what, but it does seem to be just a hair off on texture. Or heck maybe the grinder was better there. Idk..
I like the look of MK studio cups but not the feel as much. Prefer my cups from from Bisqit but for day to day use I think I like Kinto and Origami the most as they feel more sturdy.
I went to Yingge Ceramics museum and the shops just outside Taipei, as I was shopping my wife was asking, don't we have enough coffee cups already?
Here are a few cups they had at a competition that looked fun
Shoey blend to be available today
@jaunty ice are you ordering direct from Scenery?? Asking bc Iām wondering how much shipping is. Feeling like I need to try more scenery
Jk - just saw the Airworks stickers on the picture you shared
Yeah. I did in January. I forget how much I paid. I didnāt love everything.
I bought encanto otl and that is teaching me some things right now as I try and squeeze coffee juice out of these beans
I have an airworks washed sub
These are beautiful cups
These were the sets I wanted to buy.
But they werenāt for sale of course. I like the smoke set and the tray the most.
Yeah I could definitely over caffeinate myself with those. And love it. š„²
@jaunty ice Got Wiggles's scale yesterday and did a nice 1/15 split this morning, tasted great
Nice. Now you can reproduce and experiment with water temp or grind size etc
Thereās water temps too! Jesus do I need a Bunsen burner and some alchemical flasks?
I boil it, that should do the trick
Can just change one thing and see. Usually thatās the bean ofc
Lots of people do that so not a bad place to start
Coffee - The more you know, the less you know.
This session was presented at Roast Summit 2025 in Portland, Oregon.
How much does water really matter when brewing coffee? Join Christopher Hendon, Associate Professor of Chemistry at the University of Oregon, for a deep dive into the latest research on water chemistry and its role in extraction, flavor and consistency.
When I was at Scorpio in Sacramento I found I preferred their batch brew since it was a nice blend
Speaking of batch brew⦠is anyone eyeing the roadrunner?
TIL about breakdown products
Purine alkaloid in my food- oh yeahhhh fuck yeah!
Cyclohexanecarboxylic acid polyol? Well this fucking sucks. What the fuck.
If they donāt have pour over - batch is my next order. Iām lactose intolerant and donāt like the nut milk flavor. I blame that on peanut allergy š¤·āāļø
The Weber one?
Yeah $150 šø
Itās essentially the Bird but plastic right?
Apparently itās similar to clover but manual?
I see
Probably on my wait but try one day list
Im all for making my travel setup better. But Iām in a weird spot. I need something for when I just need 1-2 cups or when Iām with the family and need 10+
Yeah I would use as the home brewer
Looks interesting
I like my RB for personal travel brewing and the hoop for making a few cups
RoadRunner looks cool but I think my wife will kill me if I buy one more brewer haha
Yeah. Same.
I can think of some good use cases for this tho
I had an interesting soup accident. I was going to try the scenery encanto otl in the A5 grinder today. But was a full rotation off for Gabi. So instead of fine filter I went coarse espresso (about 30 clicks below soup)
So I pulled a soup with it and flow was fine, it was really good. Previously I couldnāt get much flavor out of this at usual soup grind on the A4z
Alright pulling a blend of boulder blend and aviary 23 at 90 clicks on the A5
Thatās pretty good, grind looks a bit more uniform, the tartness is more intense than the a68 but not in a bad way. Canāt recall what I pulled last but I usually error on turbo, this went 19:50 in 20 seconds.
Good cups out of mistakes are some of the best
This stuff is good for those who partake
Definitely a grind finer moment. About to do the encanto on the A5 for real. One thing about the k ultra I forgot how manual grinding gives you real team feedback on how roasted your beans are before you have a sip.
Zo im glad I didnāt break out the peanuts while you were here š
Death nuts!
Come on yall. Peanuts cant be that great
these red peanuts are particularly good
Ohh I bet theyāre good
@sharp jasper do you know what a good price would be for a used Decent DE1 pro?
Depending on version and remaining warranty 2000-2500. They had some marked down to $2900ish recently. And the way they import the machines you don't pay sales tax on the majority of the machine.
They sell it as a software package with a $499 machine.
These are a screaming deal IMO
Yeah the one listed for $2800?
yeah, in smyrna
I think i saw it but it's 4 years old.
funny enough the seller is our LM rep
Now that's funny!
Imo yes
Arrived in 3 days too
With the Bengle coming I'm curious if it will push prices down
Jake?
Yeah
I think he covers the SE
Sounds right
So is the A5 on par with the A68 for spro?
It was good. Tasted a little bit more like a flat burr than the a68 (less sweet and slightly less body) but only pulled one shot. Iāll try using it exclusively for now.
I was worried about the work flow but filling a step down basket is so easy.
Itās more like the a68 than the p80 or any 64mm burr Iāve tried. I could try to compare to moonshine burrs sometime.
@jaunty ice Lance just dropped a video on the RoadRunner. Are you in cahoots?? A4Z video dropped after you mentioned it too š¤
Iām just a little too online
I saw it mentioned on reddit and then I watched this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crt_ieYaJ2k
Should a $150 plastic travel coffee brewer even exist? Today weāre diving into the Weber Workshops Roadrunner.
Weber Workshops RoadRunner - https://geni.us/weberroadrunner
(Affiliate - Weber is throwing in a silicone drip catcher for my channel viewers)
The Coffee I brewed in this video!:
GotCoffee Co Decaf Red Bourbon Thermal Shock: https:/...
The way Lance says it feels cheap- I think it implies there will be some knock offs in the next year or two.
It's really fun to see them enjoying their cups.
Now that he made a video it will be in under 6 months
We need get with an engineer to design and for us to sell an all in one travel setup.
An all in one. A2, Pietro burr, water heater, brewer, and drinking vessel.
Some how in the size of an Oxo/French press. It can be plug in and v2.0 battery
Seeing the clean up of the Roadrunner is a big no from me
I didnāt make it past it feels so cheap
BTW, if any of yall plan to fly out of ATL soon, arrive early. TSA Precheck took a hour at 6am. They were snaking us through the baggage claim. Pretty nuts, but understandable with the shut down.
Really enjoyed shoebox mystery league today
Whatās your travel coffee plan?
More instant coffee. š«
Partners. Might try B&W next time.
I was in Monterey in 2024 and the only drinkable coffee was the verve instant coffee my little brother gave me.
They seem to contract help most companies make their instant. The boxes all seem to have the same design.
@sharp jasper looks like the security line may be due to flight cancellations
Its not terrible for instant coffee!
I'm sitting 2 hours delayed so far. So that checks out. š« š„²
But at 6am?? Like I didnt think they had that many delays at 6am?
Ohhhhh
Yeah a lot of people were sleeping in the rainforest. š¶āš«ļø
Shieeeeet I had Sky Priority. I didnt know that was a separate lane
I don't think I knew that either.
I'm flying out again Thursday so I'm curious how bad it will be then.
Shouldn't have delays so probably better?
would check the subreddit to see, this was posted yesterday https://www.reddit.com/r/Atlanta/comments/1rvbg2x/atl_airport_tsa_wait_times/
Thanks! I'm checking it out
I think thatās only for delta related things like checking bags or boarding the plane. I donāt think it applies to security thatās TSA
People were saying they were advised to go through the international side security
They mentioned in the screenshot Medikit posted something about it being 5 minutes? Idk
Ya I saw that but assumed they just assumed lol
Well if it works for anyone let me know in case in April itās still shitty
Going through international if you have no checked in bags is still the best hack if you arenāt using Marta
I have not done it yet but need to try
So you go through security and then just ride the same train to your terminal?
I also saw a hack the other day about riding the skyliner train? To a hotel and catching an uber there is substantially cheaper
Wouldnāt do it if you park your car since you might be forced to check in bags on the way back.
it's not that bad, took like 1-2 hours or so
Iām far from the airport so I usually uber now
Sup, have we met?
i don't know, probably not š
i'm just that guy on live that first-mate mentioned
Nice to meet you guy on live. Where in Atlanta is guy on live from?
Spotted in the wild
Wanna come mod my Delonghi? lol
Italy, haha. i just sometimes use the search here
would be cool if there was a tap to access the freshly brewed coffee I'm assuming is in that tank.
Sorry sir. The only Italy we have in Atlanta is the little Italy Antico Pizza tried to create.
I didnāt see the side but I was guessing it was a gas station truck advertising coffee
Like racetrack or speedway. QT would remember to put their logo on the back
Iād move to Italy tomorrow if my wife would let me
So Luminous instant coffee is better than I remember. They might be the best instant I've had. Or maybe this morning I particularly needed coffee.
Things are going well I see
I'm flying home tonight, then back at ATL tomorrow morning for a 930am flight. I think I'll just plan on getting there at 6am.
Sorry
My boss has impeccable timing. š šš
Has me fly to Chicago the day after a big snow storm. Has me leave Chicago and the high is 50 degrees. š„²
I was supposed to head to Chicago for a conference next month and was looking forward to but then my wife was asked to fly to DC so Iām attending virtually. Starting to think Iām the lucky one if things donāt improve.
Yeah flying is a bit more stressful with the shenanigans.
Although everyone else that flew in yesterday for my meeting had minimal issues. I'm sure they compound at larger airports.
Went way too coarse but ended up with a way better cap than I expected after make filter with it.
Green apple and cherry are both already zippy š¤·āāļø
I donāt understand why there is a mismatch between actual wait times and reported. Feels weird.
Someone mentioned they might start not allowing non intl travelers to use that check in. I canāt verify rn
Makes sense when missing an international flight would be really bad due to larger lines
Glad Iām not flying until SCA
maybe the whole situation will be resolved. If not, 3 hours before the flight is my show up time lol
Someone said evening check in wasnāt bad.
You know I realized Prodigal I believe switched from an IMF roaster to a Roest P3000. I wonder if that has to do with their change in roasting style
EVERYONE - Sunday March 22nd
Who all is available? I will be hosting at my house in Lawrenceville
Itās roasty for me but Iām trying to go a touch darker for caps. No more adding milk to UL for me
smfh not using old.
goddamn kids these days
I think I'm still good, but this week has been a disasterclass of illness and absenteeism by both my kid and me, so no promises
NP. Just DM me if your coming and Ill send you the address
Still on the hunt new coffee. I wanted to try Alma Coffee. Do they have any espresso beans that taste like chocolate and berries?
I loved their honey and natural process beans in espresso
Iām available still
Thank you
Honey process my favorite of theirs personally. Zo took their green and made it unreal
Ive been roasting all day. Im really liking this washed PNG right off roast. I hope I have not gone delulu from roasting/tasting all day
Well Ill just enjoy it for now and hope for the best
So ATL is still jacked up. Slightly more organized but still nuts
Man I canāt imagine no pay again and go to work then listen to everyone upset
Dude for real. Even the airport employees having to explain why just because you can SEE the TSA Precheck line right behind them, doesn't mean the line starts there.
The issues seem to be compounding because people we were in line with were flying in 5+ hours. They didnt want to risk it. Which I understand. But now you got more people trying to cram through the lines early in the AM. That must be why it smooths out later in the afternoon
That makes sense. Everyone running for the fire exit at the same time.
Iām so glad I donāt have work travel for once
Morning cap
How is it
Good. I used the A5 and I preferred it with the A68. Not sure if Iām using equivalent grind sizes but once again a68 was sweet with better body.
A5 was better as straight espresso though.
I havenāt had it as straight as espresso only soup. How would you describe that
Just a sip. Tart (pulled 19:45 in 20s so expected) some fruit. Iām bad with tasting notes
Ya I donāt worry so much about tasting notes. Every which way you brew can change them.
EVERYONE,
Sunday I will be hosting at my house in Lawrenceville. If you can make it let me know and I will DM you details
I'm in!
I'll be there
@nova wadi airworks Big Sur drop
I already bought the San Antonio gesha and probably donāt need any more coffee beans at this point
Nice
Still havenāt gotten my TPC from them
Thatās tempting though
Big Sur so good
My first year with airworks but I appreciate that they force you to let the beans rest for 6 weeks before delivery š
Oh man they got the cups
Cup dimensions are different from the past
Oh really?
@jaunty ice pulled soup on the same bean but Anaerobic and more Nordic light. Tart boozey death. Will probably go great in wifeās latte š¤š¤£
Third sip is better. My palate acclimated to the death
I think one of the challenges whe I first made soup is that I didnāt really have any clean flavored beans. So itās interesting that decaf works so well as soup.
Oops. I screwed up. I was doing a larger serving. I did 40:70
Meant to do 40:120 at least
Apparently okay to go through international check in. Not sure why conflicting information out there. @desert dawn
I went to airport on Wednesday and it was unreal. My wife and I got there at 6 am thinking weād be okay with TSA precheck based on wait times online. Thereās no way the precheck wait time was correct because the line snaked all the way through baggage claim and, before that, all the way back down to where the normal TSA precheck line started.
No way we wouldāve made our flight if we hadnāt had our newborn in a stroller which allowed us to skip everything for special assistance
It was unlike anything Iāve ever seen hahaha
Good god
Iām looking at so many different critically important government agencies that are fundamentally broken and wondering how long we can last like this.
At least within science we are going to be staring at a massive personnel hole if we ever decide to turn the research funding faucet back on.
Where is this? I have some arriving today š
Iām curious if that works for checking bags or you have to go domestic to check in bags
Are you in Portland?
You have to be in the .01% of the population or itās F-ed
I was talking to Rob and he said Heart used to roast super light like what we see from Scenery
So they def know how to but maybe mainstream changed things to be a bit more soluble. I still think they have solid coffee
Ah shit I shoulda got it then. $40 at Harbor Coffee
I went one size up so I think it's the same price as online but gotta pay shipping
Harbor's default is Heart, FWIW. If the commute isnt terrible and you want whatever they happen to have, which is probably the limiting factor
But owners are awesome regardless and deserve our love
I'm glad I live close to work/kids school but I do wish I lived closer to that part of town.
Its the best.
Being able to walk to a coffee shop was my dream but brewing at home probably better in most ways.
Join us. The ITP _____ Park neighborhoods demand it.
I can bike to work. Was looking really good until ATL beltline bungled the bridge they literally just installed.
And the rail...
I walk to workā¦. Downstairs š¤£
Same homie, same same.
Maybe I'll swing back and snag the gesha before tomorrow's meetup. @jaunty ice if you brew it, let me know how it goes
Omg - I was reallly wanting to pull the trigger on this, so very good to know there is a pick up option in ATL
Any chance you checked the roast date on those bags? @plush sinew
Of course. 23.Feb - PRE SEASONED!
Another reason to come tomorrow - maybe can have it without buying!
*assuming they haven't sold it all by the time I go back
Ughhh I wanted to make tomorrow work so bad but coming back into town today and will have to spend tomorrow getting ready for the week ššš
Iām so sad to miss
Unrelated to the above (or maybe coffee at all...), I visited Radio for the first time however many years ago and pointed out to my partner the really cool, train-station-esque board they had up behind the counter. Floated the idea "that would be so cool to just have on the kitchen wall..." Knowing full well it would not fly at all with her MCM/white-wall aesthetic. And to my genuine surprise, when they released a smaller version, she sent it to me and said "it would be a cool thing to put up."
So hawt damn here my daily weather, schedule, and coffee-resting vestaboard will hang (with, apparently, t Swift quotes sprinkled in) all thanks to our friends at Radio
(see? Totally on topic)
Yeah i think Vestaboards are so cool. Definitely might be in my future man-coffee-cave
I like the vibe at harbor
I have always wanted one of those
Goodnight sweet prince
Ooo matching cup
For tomorrow I have a cupping planned, palate training exercise, and if I can squeeze it in roasting too.
Cupping 2 coffees roasted different ways:
-Juliana Guevara and Weimar Lasso washed Java, Colombia
-Mong Coffee Community, washed Blue Mountain, Papua New Guinea
Cupping 6 acids
Citric acidity
Malic acidity
Lactic acidity
Acetic acidity
Tartaric acidity
Phosphoric acidity
Stoked for it and to see you guys
Hell yeah. thanks for putting this together
Think I might bring some backlog and see if you guys might want some stuff
On my way now. Late, as per usual
@nova wadi had it. So we got to try it again. Still kinda surprising for an Anaerobic
Making last cup of Shoey MC this week
Youāve got a great space. Especially compared to how I just roast under my kitchen hood with my laptop
I think my caffeine hangover finally faded
Yeah I didnāt show you but I actually gutted the whole garage, new insulation and air sealed, new electrical, and plumbing.
I ran 4 separate 220v lines (one at least every wall) and like 4-5 separate 20amp lines. Plumbing for a sink on both sides of the garage.
I could technically run a full scale roastery
Itās a vibe in there. So many toys
My a2's first task: grinding batch brew at 10pm in my parent's pantry (so as not to disturb the baby) so the early risers all get coffee without waking me or the kid. This is the life.
(read: never buy a old house, but especially never try to fix a old house)
Mine has old complications. I couldnāt imagine yours
All I need now is to add some coffee trees to the jungle
Atlanta Gesha has a nice ring to it
Call up the UK for samples of stenophylla, begin your NA growing empire from the garage.
Bag details

Been there
A2 is pretty sweet. Ran a few beans through
Hopefully our screws remain intact
. Not too many people reporting failures but if Femopietro works out and I use it regularly I will use threadlocker if that's what most end up recommending.
Thatās so wild
same, just regular blue thread locker should be ideal
Kinda scared to use the A2 now
I haven't used it much since I already have too many grinders. Thus far the failure rate with the screws is low but I do think we will all run into trouble if we ask for a replacement grinder and they definitely wouldn't cover shipping back.
Since it's relatively inexpensive I'm not terribly worried about ruining the stock burr but once my pietro burrs are in there I plan to use threadlocker- perhaps longer screws as well.
Yeah I saw some people are looking into better replacement screws
@jaunty ice just brought that BK back out of the freezer. It's super tasty man thank you again
I really miss OG Aricha. I just bought 400g of underdeveloped Aricha š
Iāve got some Aricha green Iāve been working on
I have good news and I have bad news.
Good News: that Gesha from Heart is in fact dope on soup, good call @nova wadi / @desert dawn.
Bad News: I FAFO'd with the a2 and choked 20g of said heart beans into a pressure bomb in an attempt to soup it at work. Without a tamper. Yeah, idk, I'm utterly incompetent or something. I should learn where tf to dial these burrs š
Gonna wait itās just 7 days off roast. How light is it?
Well I had my first coffee in 2 weeks this weekend, so my palate is not going to be helpful here, but between Zo's and Wiggles's roasts, I think we probably drank a few bags of lawn clippings.
And it's not that light... (I jest <3)
While I get some brownsugary/caramelly notes in the nose, it definitely drinks a bit lighter. some good florality on my one good brew, but I need to clean up my grind for sure to get more dimension out of it without muddying things (still not very bitter though despite the heinous grind/method today)
BanaBrown but LaymanLight
Soluble is good
Try to save some of the Gesha. I find they usually need more rest with all roasters
I would say a safe place to check is 3w
Others in the ālet it rest campā
totally get the hollowness thoughts
I take this as a compliment haha
As you should! Green (coffee) tea for me, please!
Oh no. That explains my troubles with Roest. They say they are similar
My roasts we cupped this weekend were less than a week old and I got some astringency and a couple things on the table were grass
Feran is saying thatās a trait of new machines?
https://www.heartroasters.com/collections/beans
Any other thoughts on this roaster?
(I know it's literally the one yall are talking about but any other thoughts since they are on sale? )
Not too new but yes Loring. My Roest acts a lot like a Loring. They are kinda hybrid drum/air roasters cause you have a drum and high air volume.
All machines apply heat in their own unique way causing the coffee rest times to be different. Ex ultra light on a Typhoon roaster only needs 2 weeks, but on a Loring/my model Roest at least 8
On the roasters end the problem is in the beginning itās really hard to taste when your cup is jacked up. It leaves me confused on is it a bad roast or need time. Itās what it takes me soo long to say ok letās serve it
Both toasty and green has def showed up for me. Astringent def which I usually blame the roast but apparently I need to let it rest and see
Damn the A2 is pretty good as is
Trying out peach coffee roasters
Wish I lived and worked near/in chamblee
Wasnāt there a hype coffee shop on one of those corners newr hopstix?
I find myself in Chamblee once every couple of weeks I might stop by
There's Kin, Laylo, us, Sidecar
laylo just opened recently. they have awesome looking pastries!
I think I was thinking of Moonbird
I tried to go once a few years ago but their schedule wasnāt compatible with mine.
I think theyāre permanently closed according to Google
Was making a lot of Trad spro with PCR back when I just got started. Pretty good, a little dark for me these days
Just tried dirty south and yeah itās pretty dang dark, but itās good dark
Very sweet upfront
I sense goop potential
They have a hoodie on their site I want really bad but they dont have my size
I just tried this.
š„
I actually quite like it. It tastes like caramel
I hope thatās what Iām supposed to taste, or else Iām really dialing it in wrong š
Maybe Iām tasting candied walnuts. It tastes caramely š
The candy part, That makes sense
I think they just won an award, but it was in Spanish so I have no idea what was said
Oh nice!
Nice! My cafe is thinking of switching to Alma ill defo keep that in mind
We are looking at soulmate and essence
Oh cool! Yeah, Soulmate is nice. Maybe Iāll try essence next
I should clarify. The award was for the farm Finca Terrerito.
One of the owners of Almaās parents own farms in Honduras. They warehouse the raw green coffee at Alma and ship all over.
Alma is the kids way of having a roastery and cafe to serve that coffee.
For you coffee nerds they run two Lorings so I assume itās no small operation.
How does Almaās ābright roastā compare to other light roast. Would it be similar to Prodigal? Iāve been using that for espresso and for my wife but thinking about buying some coffee from Alma when I reach the end of these bags.
Nm buying now
WHATCHA WORKIN ON?
COLLECTIN SOME STRIPE PAYMENTS?
š I SEE U WRITIN DAT CODE BEB š
a true travesty that prodigal won its bracket round (no offense meant, just massive underrating of flowerchild)
Dude I couldnāt believe they beat H&S
Tried aviary #24 today and itās got a lot of flavor, especially as it cools. More roast than the ultralights I drink but still great.
Also after having a few amazing cups with #22 I ended up struggling with it through the end of the bag.
My wifeās comments on some filter I made with #23 that I left on the table without finishing. āThe coffee is good with cream and sugarā
Hahaha- well maybe we are all doing it wrong. Maybe a dash of c/s is the way. I really did like that red honey with c/s
I souped the anaerobic version yesterday (first soup on the A4Z) it was crazy. I donāt think Anaerobic and soup is for me
Yeah, that sounds like a bad time, especially with the funk being crystal clear from the A4z
A coffee I roasted tastes like biting into a tomato.. itās.. not good lol
Is it the bean or the roast?
Zo said heās getting berry so must be the roast
Coffee is strange
Oh I forgot about that š¤¦āāļø
In wiggles defense the coffees description has tomato in it. Shoebox sold it in late Feb maybe? Kenya washed Ngomano. He listed red currant, tomato, jasmine on it.
In the green offering these were descriptions from their cuppings.
And read this description. Like wth is rose jam saffron slow roasted tomatoes
When I was at Substance Joachimās wife Alexandrine helped me pick out some beans and she kept recommending Kenyans āthis has great classic Kenyan tomato flavorā. I wasnāt sure thatās what I wanted! But turned out to be my favorite Kenyan last year.
Gicherori AB lot 095
Wow crazy. I would have been worried too
I had sticker shock at 100g of geisha for 40++ euro but kind of wish I bought at least one bag.
Bana called my purchase budget substance š
Used the k ultra to make soup with some scenery (not otl). Omg Iām certainly not šŖ but this was nearly impossible. Great in the cup though.
Any coffee recommendations in Asheville?
I tried in the Pietro. It sucks. It took over two minutes. I wonāt be doing that again
I was in Asheville a few years ago, went to Rowan but canāt remember if it was good. Liberty House was a nice meal
Iām still hurting. Zp6 > k ultra for ease of grinding alone
Actually the reason I sold my first k ultra.
Even for filter k ultra is harder?
Yes absolutely but very doable unlike soup. I donāt think Iāll try soup again tbh. Iāll try to repeat with a5 tomorrow to see if similar āif I can rember
Been years since I've been there but I absolutely love Asheville
@plush sinew im having the Heart Gesha today. Itās nice whats the roast date on it? Iām getting the same brown sugar but Iām thinking it doesnāt need more rest
@jaunty ice I would do a bag burp and check in around 20 days maybe even 14-16 days bag burp
Iāve never been so it will fun.
I gotta cook their tonight so itās a crazy packing coffee stuff, cooking welcome dinner etc
Also they have a blackstone. I havenāt used one yet so letās see
Yes.
š I gotta go find it. maybe in old Bana thread - I asked and posited some options. some folks responded with great recs, too.
- Farewell is good, they tend to stock bana-able roasters.
(Unrelated) It's also right across from Green Man brewing, which has really good root beer (Trust me, I'm an expert; the guy who makes it must have an exclusive with them or something ā wouldn't sell to me direct š” )
- Pollen has been mentioned and they're solid.
There's another one that I swear to god I found on the west/north side, but I can never find it on gmaps and have apparently never saved it...
- Maybe Cooperative Coffee Roasters? I know they're cool, at least, idr the space well enough.
- Bad Manners is the only other one I recognize on GMaps.
I was wondering why everyone on her was talking about the pollen in Asheville š
Howās pollen in Asheville? Not bad
I looked at the views from Pollen. Thatās not even fair.
yeah avl p dope until once-in-a-lifetime storms show up
Keep running into people from canton today and asking if theyāve been to Alma
The good news is I now know where Canton is relative to holly springs and Woodstock.
Green Man is so good. Forgot about that. Damn now I want a beer haha
Only 3 days off roast but really enjoying these beans in milk drinks today.
Iāll probably stick to their bright medium and lighter but looking like a better replacement to the prodigal boulder blend I had been buying for this purpose.
Yeah the other stuff is pretty dark
Their new lots should be landing: already landed so Iām excited to see what this harvest tastes like
Sure, Iāll let you know what the future holds
Iām in an odd spot with the roaster broken
Yeah I bet
Sorry Zo
Ya sucks. At least another two weeks.
If only there was a co ro
What happened to the roaster?
side note, i think next year we might get one for Stellow
Nice, roasting is fun
Oh shit
Worst timing ever
It really is the worst timing. I have so much green.
Liking the A2 for soup
Also great stealth grinder. Start it up and throw it in the cabinet
Itās my decaf soup grinder right now and itās pretty tasty
I canāt remember what my zero is, I think I went just past a quarter turn from lock, 7 clicks
Might try a bit coarser
Just did a lovely decaf soup with it
Have you done anything with the screws yet? @jaunty ice
No. In the passive stage where I see what others do. Want to see what screws people use and if anyone runs into issues with the head size.
Yeah thatās probably best
The fact that a reasonable amount of screws are loose⦠makes me think that actually falling out is unusual even when loose?
I probably wonāt travel with one unless I secure the screws.
Im serving Lume at the Roest booth. I am going to use the coffees we cupped. The Papua New Guinea and the Colombian Java. I just have so little coffee to take
Hopefully itās enoughš¤
Also I was told the water is usually sponsored and pretty hard soā¦. Donāt think thatās going to help.
Stopped by Stellow. Didnāt realize itās not open yet lol
April 20!
Grab some distilled when you land lol
Looking good
@desert dawn what days are you in SD? I'll be there Fri-mon
Wed-Sun
Yea Iām just debating what to bring/use cause the station is tiny
But I probably will as long as itās allowed
Like I donāt know if the water sponsorship company means you have to use that water
Unless something else pops up Iām planning to grab breakfast in the AM and head to Sey house if can to make some coffee
Last year and I would guess this year too they had a check in spot at convention free of charge to hold luggage
Sey house is right by my hotel. Thatās convenient
I thought it was gonna be a literal house
Is it not?
had a brew of #22 today courtesy of Wiggle's split
Nice, round mango with a zing of citric acidity to balance things out
Itās being hosted at Luce lofts which I think is an event space
I enjoyed this chiroso. It seemed nicely balanced like I could drink a couple cups
defo agree. first time having aviary actually and i think this is gonna get me hooked
1:17 low agitation brew ^
if yous were wondering
also are you headed up to SD @desert dawn mate ?
Christopher Feran of Aviary is a seasoned pro. Very hyper focused. I believe heās a green buyer for crop to cup too
Yep! I should be there next week. @woven stone is going too
I actually need to ask Flow if heās going this year
Oh ha. Forgot - Danny Flow.
Bana Flow is Carl and he said heās not coming
I met Danny last year at Houston convention
Awesome
maybe i'll bring some Hatch that i have coming in this week
or one of the many things in my freezer
Totally sad I couldnāt find hatch while in Toronto.
ohh. love toronto in general
one of my buddies runs a cafe. Issho Bakeryhttps://www.instagram.com/isshobakery/?hl=en
usually carries hatch or september
Toronto was great. Didnāt have much time as we drove to Niagara and back but good several days there, mostly used transit with occasional uber
Biggest highlight was the food
damn, a whole best-of-atlanta showing up in san diego
a BoATLoad of people, if you will...
Sending good representation
Yall. I went a boatload coarser on the Pepe TyOxy we had at my house. Itās heaven today.
Shockingly Iām 120 micron coarser
This cup makes me want to buy more
Funny you say that because I just started grinding way courser for soup and I like it a lot more
Have you seen the wood chipper brews?
No whatās that
I wonder if I need to dial back my soup coarser. Went finer recently due to some ultralight challenges
Comments like this make me not want to rush to do anything with the screws. Definitely dislike everything about the design where screws can come loose and ruin your burrs.
#1481698251047567534 message
Yikes. Mine will just sit pretty in the box till the Pietro mod is ready
I think you still use these screws with the mod right?
Yeah.
Someone will figure it out haha
My concern is that the screws are just grabbing plastic and an extra couple mm not doing much, maybe need to be thicker but I donāt want to screw in more than one time
Yeah. Among the things that cause me significant pain is doing irreversible damage to something. Even if itās under $80
I wonder if you could use even longer screws, goeos through the plastic housing into the motor to hold it in place. Holes on the motor itself:
screw holes on the housing:
Something to consider- rather than unscrew one screw at a time, may be better to go after those two screws in the deeper wells which allow you to remove the bean chute/anti-popcorny tran to reveal the battery access, circuit board, and motor, and then push the motor down as you screw in to make sure it's secure.
@nova wadi tpc airworks at 2pm
Thinking about rawanda RB and Peru chirimoya
yeah these are not the droids I'm looking for
double ferment ~$1/g
I love coffee but thatās a bit steep
Yeah same. I just bought some gesha from hydrangea I had been eyeing. Waiting on my airworks Big Sur order too
I cupped steamed milk
What did you discover
I was trying to see how many rounds I could steam with the Nanofoamer until I could detect a difference.
Between batches I only rinsed the nanofoamer by pouring water into it with my kettle.
First 3 no obvious difference. 4th batch is when I detected a little clump and sweetness slightly less. On the fifth smokey from milk burning on the bottom. Tbh, if it wasnāt for the clump I would say the 4th was fine too
Eventually I will cup different milks to see what I would want in a shop. But is that like water and should change too???
oh dawg, if y'all think I'm any kind of nerd about coffee, get me to the cupping table on milk. or root beer. or tea. lesgo
you want the rundown on best oatmilks? I gotchu.
Cow milks? I MOO U
call me the GOAT because I'm screaming at u
Next thing you know youll be searching for cow micro lots
So apparently there are different milk suppliers for cafes. So there will def need to be some tastings.
The best ones get daily delivery of fresh milk cause the older it is the milk doesnt foam well.
The āgood stuffā arrives where you can see the cream on top. I donāt understand but sounds yummy
Going to have to open a shop with a field to have my own cow
Milk it yourself and get 25% off
Cream top milk! Postern uses Atlanta dairies. As does Opo.
I think itās just higher fat content
Grab this Burundi if itās on sale Sunday
Ooo do tell. I donāt drink a lot of Burundi and hear they are generally harder to roast
Assuming Ivan Giraldo is related to Jose Giraldo. They do all kinds of adv processing. Some funky, some clean. I had a couple last year that were enjoyable
ALSO, I will be doing a pop up this Sunday at an open house. If youāre in the area and want to say hello:
2485 Stewart Rd, Cumming, GA 30041
What time will you be there? I have an Easter event. Iām doing a coffee cart at in Alpharetta, but I could try to stop by after.
You gotta have it. I souped it and itās just so bright and flavorful.
Itās bright but not hollow, I have to agree with the milk tea note, I donāt know how to describe it
2-5pm
Milk tea note and bright how interesting
idk about GA selectionādon't know that we've got much of a dairy farm scene, agriculturallyābut in the nearby Carolinas and TN, I know there's a bunch of quality small(ish) dairy farms/congloms that supply cream top, etc.
glass bottle milk like the good old days (now get off my lawn)
We have so much potential with all the country land to get great stuff but I donāt see it as much here.
I need to pay more attention to local farmers markets but even those things seem sus
The Campo Hermoso is so melony and peachy
Oh did they redesign their bags?
Now that you mention it, it does look different than the last bag I bought from them about a year and a half ago
I think Iām used to the brown bags with the sort of mountain like color. I can see both on their website so not sure if this is the beginning of a change in their bags and art or Iām just not familiar enough with the brand.
There is way more detail on the white bags now too.
I was driving today and I passed by a different Belux location
I looked at the hours and itās only open on tuesdays for one hour?
The only locations I know of are Alpharetta and Roswell
I think thatās where he roasts
McGinnis ferry?
Like I think they keep it only for that
https://www.instagram.com/reel/DWBKXDpjS5e/?l=1
Made me laugh. šš @desert dawn what is the most number of cups you've had at once you were actively drinking?
Only 3 for me... Besides cupping
This is funny bc I thought about sending you all a picture earlier this evening. I had at least 7 pour overs going. I stopped counting after that
-Kenya Ngomano - 3 different roasts
-Juliana Guevara, Java - 2 roasts
-El Socorro, Maracaturra - 3 roasts
All 8g/140 deep 27. I was trying to figure out what I like and I want to serve tomorrow at a pop up and what I want to take to world of coffee, etc
I'm with you. I think I'm going to have to grab one. If they having something cool at scaa @desert dawn let me know. Good luck today. Out of town but would have loved to check out the open house
Shoey sub opening at noon
Iām in!
Same here!!
š š¦
Proud of myself for not signing up for another sub
@desert dawn how was the pop up? Sorry I didnāt make it. Was exhausted after working today.
Wiser man than I
Np! It went well slower turn out with the weather
@nova wadi for the pop up I took
Play well with milk:
El Socorro Maracaturra
Finca Tererito Anaerobic
Blk:
Pepe Jijon TyOxy
Paolo Trujillo Wush Wush
Dionafor Ruiz Java
To SCA Iāll take the
Kenya Ngomano
Juliana Guevara Java Colombia
Mong Coffee, PNG, washed
Probably some Pepe
Probably slow because of Easter Iād guess
Where did you grab from? I was going to see if you wanted to put in a rouge wave order
Did they reopen the 2?
I think there were some errors so he did
Fak! Lol
#1461891500802834643 message
Ugh I thought doctors were supposed to do no harm!
Stupid spring break and no Internet
I just got it from ole Jeffy B
I had two absolutely amazing cups of coffee yesterday. Shoey mutana soup followed by Ceto mystery in the gabi
Would still be interested in getting something from Rogue Wave. Never had it
I literally just ordered from rogue wave yesterday, some stackable origami cups
I mostly just bought cafec filters from them. Them paused when tarrifs went crazy. Looking now that they are only kinda stupid
Iām a little worried about what rogue wave wrote about an additional 10% tariff, is that charged when it arrives?
I honestly have held off buying since last time it was almost the cost of my purchase
Did you end up ordering?
Me or wiggles?
This is good. I would say roast level between rogue wave and September.
Iāll soup it tomorrow
Yeah Iāve realized I like Gesha better souped
Iām so excited for my Deep 27. Imma be doing so many micro brews
mfw someone's gotta get me on a notification train for these
I think that's fair, though it's been a minute (more like a year) since I've had any rogue wave for comparison.
I really like the soup I've made with it.
Eh actually I can do a decaf
Pretty good. Im impressed
What recipe are you using
Same.
Deep 27
8g
Pour to 20/40/90/120/140
Time 20s, 40s, now follow till water level is low but donāt let fully drain
TBT under 2 mins
*Remove one pour for bitter or adj grind preferred
*less turbulent pours
10g 25/50/120/170, only 4 pours here
My TBT is generally between 130-210 just depends
I started pre wetting the filter then grab it from underneath and pull it down a little to help reduce bypass. I think has slowed down my brews
@jaunty ice @nova wadi
Ngomano 10.3 WL, 3/22
Dry aroma: lemon/limey, roasted tomato stew
Wet aroma: peppery, chamomile
Taste: ??? My brew is astringent to me. I think Iām too sensitive to that now. I get great sweetness in the after taste that mine be a sweeter cherry tomato. I was getting persimmon before but bad brew so š¤·āāļø
To give you an idea I measured 130 agtron on my 11.3 WL, so this one is probably hyper light
Shoebox?
Lume
I think Iām on the opposite side of the spectrum where I almost never notice astringency
Havenāt brewed my Ngomano in a bit
Due for a revisit
Never released cause roaster broke so couldnāt go production
11.3 weight loss
Wet aroma: more rosey a lot more floral and pepper
Taste: sweetness more pronounced, fruit more developed and clear
But I switched back to the EG1 since the Femobook is packed. I am not enjoying it now. Everything is tasting chemical and over extracted
OH and throw in allergies š¤§
Test it to grow palate. Cup 3 coffees with different grind settings - blind test
11.4 WL
Went coarser and more gentle. Improved the cup, but I think I need to switch to 4 pour instead of 5
Look at this crazy m98v
how does the brewing aspect work? Bring beans or buying there?
I'm so ready to fly out tomorrow
Did you get a cup?
Thatās awesome Lance had the pleasure of meeting Zo
All free. Check my IG they built a tower in the center of the room with single dose 15g weber vials.
Grab whatever you want and brew on whatever you want. But getting your hands on stuff is busy busy
Yeah the m98 cups are very different. I really like the taste.
Nope! All their latest hits
i'll refrain from having any delta coffee tomorrow
and save it all for woc/sey
should be ready to go around 11am after i land and stow my bag
My wife tried to take me to Starbucks in the airport. Luckily it was a coming soon one in my terminal
I had so much coffee and eq on me and offered to brew her a cup but nope
In what way? I get thatās hard to describe with just one cup. Is it like pietro?
Iād have got straight to the Meticulous to try soup
I brewed my own Java so I was familiar with the coffee already. I was too coarse tbt 210 on v60 15/250
I donāt know what burrs are in it, Iāll ask next time. But lots of sweetness and it was the texture that I really enjoyed
On the other hand it seemed very loud in an already very loud environment
Ugh I want a m98v. Do I want one? Tell me I don't please
The loudness seems pretty off putting
For me
M98v - Cups great. Size more reasonable than eg1
Zerno Z2 in this loud environment I could not hear at all. I literally put my ear to the hopper to hear if it was on and when it finished grinding
I was using the Z2 with silver knight burrs
Again super loud environment but if I had guess
M98v loudest
EG1 middle
Z2 quietest
I didnāt pull spro/soup today but will. I saw the new sworks 49 conversion piece for espresso machines on the counter so Iām assuming something is outfitted with it
Machine noise is a pretty big deal to me
The p80 is pretty quiet with stock burrs, fast too
Same. You know what there was no cap on the funnel. That would help
But also the I wasnāt using a cap on the z2 and it was still so quiet
Also Iāve heard of people putting rubber pads or some kinda sound dampening pads under the ek43 so maybe that could be helpful
I thought about that with my df64
M98v is sizable
Yes, but it feels more compact than the eg1
EG1 is tall and has a large base plate
You can kinda seem compared in this
Also funny story. I was dialing in the EG1 for Christopher Hendon. I was in a panic cause his brew color was terribleā¦.
Ok that pic doesnāt do a good job but it was way too light. Turned out we both assumed the Oxo kettle was on cause it said 210ā¦. But we never turned it on so brewed with cold water
Nooooooo stop
š¤·āāļø so many gadgets. At one point there was a crema loop or some kind of similar slow feeder on it that seemed printed for it
Just saw a post from Lance to return the Weber tubes. They lost 150 š¬
I bet people thought those were souvenirs or something
Stolen?
I guess people thought you could keep the tubes or stolen. I mean there wasnāt clear instruction/place on where to return them but also no one said take them home
I did this with mine and it helped. Not a ton but noticeable
I imagine on a bigger noisy motor should help more then
Z2 my beloved.
And there were two of em?! Zo, return those 150 tubes you stole and snag one of the Z2s. No one will notice in all the confusion. thx.
Dude. There was at least 4 z2
I will happily trade my own tubes for it.
I was debating buying more Weber tubes. Iāll throw those in too
On the plane to San Diego!
Z2 is 83mm?
I totally forgot you have that. How's it been now that it's been some time
I sold it after less than 2 weeks because it was too big, too silver, too expensive, and not what I was looking for.
I think 80, but blind burrs like the EG1 no screw holes so larger surface area
I think for my space if I want big burrs itās either an ultra or BooKoo if they pull it off but trying to learn to be content with my army of conicals
I donāt think your going to see gains but rather different flavor
I think I would benefit from maximizing my abilities with what I have.
Agree
@desert dawn finally in registration line. Are you at Expo today?
So thatās why their products are so pricey
Iām guessing this was just from the earnings on the step down basket š
FYI food nerds, @smokingtiger.club is a dope ass chef, and first supper club event has tickets open now ā I'd say I'll see you there, but I already have a date that night š š
That looks incredible
Pretty solid but definitely not needed
Howād it go
I had a great time just taking it all in. Trying coffee directly from Pepe and Esmerelda owners. Sey house is very communal and got to listen to Lance chat coffee
Saw Pepe a ton really. lol. But also cool getting served from Morgan Eckroth
Agree with what David said. I felt vulnerable putting the coffee out there, but got a really good response.
good people + good coffee = good response. thx all you folks for repping our humble little village. Also please return with cold air, it's already too damn hot.
just hold a jar out the window of the plane or something.
or send up some astrophage to the sun.
Im dead. Coffee hungover and then @woven stone and I went to go get cocktails. Will be in recovery till May
That's awesome
š
I think I'm still going to grab one. Anyone else want anything from rogue wave?
Do it! Can never have too many brewers
Nice to have the option to do a small dose brew
Shared coffee at work today, dropped the top part of the gabi and cracked the melodrip like part
Works okay but expands when it gets hot and drips a touch
Worst part about the Gabi is that flimsy plastic
I sent them a message to see if I can just replace that specific part
I asked about the same thing cause mine cracked and they said no š«
Hope you have better luck
Heading back from SD today. Bittersweet that itās over but I need the recovery from too much caffeine lol. Got some exciting coffees and a new dripper and some fun swag. Very cool to see @desert dawn brew at Roest and drink many cocktails after WOC lol
@jaunty ice can I trade you coffee for an IV
You okay man? Drink a lot of water, avoid EtOH
Haha ya. Exhausted really bad sleep all weekend and long days with lots of walking.
What's the dripper? Something fun/new?
When will Amazon sell Banana bags
Was at slow pour and was gonna buy a standard origami. But then I didnāt realize I was in a line for a limited dripper lol
LaunchingĀ 4/10 - please sign up for notifications Shipping 4/14 This collaboration between ORIGAMI and LEAVES COFFEE ROASTERS didn't begin with a recipe or a roast profile. It began with a question: what does the perfect cup actually require? For Ishii-san, the answer started not with the beans, but with the brewer its
It was really nice. Tiny but heavy
Vitamin plus electrolyte sports drink mix 1:1 with water
AG1 + lmnt pack?
I brought so many packs of liquid IV
I think what I am most excited about is my roaster is back
Same. Was drinking one daily. The bag sleep again last night I think is what made things worse
Luckily just the switch
This was my old power switch I sent them. No resistance internal spring or whatever is shot
Thatās it? Just the switch?
Yep!
Itās the same thing that messed up the early df64 gen2s ?
Mine wasnt Roests fault. TSA had damaged it on my last trip it just finally gave out
Normally you can pick up replacements but I wasnāt able to find an exact replacement power switches for equipment. Iām under warranty so I wanted to keep it OEM
Just showing the difference
This was the coolest thing for me.
Roest P3000. Sitting on an auto feeding cart and an after burner on the back for clean emissions.
The cart holds 100kg green and has built in scales to weigh out your green.
On the P3000 you can select a profile to run and say how many batches you want it to do and it will do it automatically.
So I could be like ok 20 batches of 3kg and place a big brute trash can in the front to catch it all. This way you can be bagging or whatever you need to near by
So cool
Would love to try one out
Did some batches last night and my roaster is so jank lol
Itās crazy. He set it to run and we were talking and it was just roasting batch after batch on its own.
Estimated price is a little over 70K for the full package. Itās the size of a mobile cart basically
But that price is not final/official.
I hope many of us can attend next year.
I plan to go harder this year. I have some ideas for next years show
NOLA here we come
Pinn dripper
And my free ceramic yeti thanks to LM lol
Kinda wild how much stuff they just give out
@woven stone I'm creeping you guys. 20th I'm hoping I can swing by!
#TacoTuesday
Forgot Lobo isn't open until 11:30am š«
soft open is the 18th actually:)
but keep an eye on socials for a more official timing
Oh dang that's right by you. Jealous
I still haven't hit up auxillary
When I was at the Moonwake/Sworks booth on Sunady they a guest brewer that was a Panamaian imprter. She had some boxes of La Esmerelda and Lamastus etc on the counter to read the details. Someone thought it was a sample? and walked off with it š¬
Someone also did that at the slow pour supply booth with a new pitcher
Man that sucks
Iām going to be that guy and call this actual theft. Including Weber vials
Academy? That's my local shop
Excited to check out your place on my next h mart run
I saw that on the sworks story. So messed up
Yep! They won!
Academy my goats
recuerdos 2027 i belieb.
and I guess I need to revisit bellwood since they moved. Their old shop was cool (plants, etc.) but I don't know that I ever had brown that I loved. Maybe just the roast(s) they were using though
I remember feeling almost identically about it
@woven stone ig says opening is the 24th. But soft opening is Saturday?
impromptu eaf takeover meetup at stellow?! (honestly might just be my excuse to go to costco...)
I could be up for that
Are we talking about meeting up on 24th Friday, or 25th Saturday at Stellow?
Are you there for any of this
Ha that's probably the best question
Iām down
Same, I can do 4/18 first half of the day and possibly 4/25. I cannot do 4/24
Ngomano. It looks better but lets see. Also, always ignore my BT curve most peoples looks wildly different from my style atm
WL 10.1 kinda sketchy
I was expecting 10.5+ lol
Interesting
Iām getting FC at 178 and dropping at 185. Roasting is so weird
I know you said to ignore BT
But I canāt help but look
Dry aroma: Tomato, Jasmine, maybe Cinnamon and brown sugar
Wet aroma: Lots of jasmine, maybe cooked tomato
Taste: Cooked Tomato, something tart maybe red grapes, spice again maybe cinnamon, and jasmine. Once cooled some grapefruit peel or something
Each sensor/roaster reads differently so the exact temp will be different. It would be useful for us to calibrate Zo's Roest is 197ish to my 178
Ohh right right
The end temp is widly different because my ROR is nothing/going negative.
Okay that makes sense
The ROR nothing/going negative is what to ignore. At 150g and below on the Roest BT is less/useless on being true reading
Dont share the curves though bc the Roest guys come at me for my style. All of there roasts look like the BT is going to the moon.
I will admit my style is risky and could easily land you in baked or problematic territory
Stackable origami mugs from rogue wave. Hopefully no extra tariff charge. I was looking for another cup like the one on the left but they only had the larger style of that one. Mk cup purchased last year.
Can they come for you after you've already had them delivered?
I saw a video yesterday of a UPS guy asking a lady for a check at her doorstep. Couldnāt take card to pay for the tariffs
š NEW all-day breakfast and brunch cafĆ© is now open in the East Lake neighborhood of Atlanta!
Follow @atlantacoffeeshops for news about coffee shop openings around the city, and subscribe to the FREE newsletter (link in bio!) for occasional updates delivered to your inbox š„
From Chef/Owner Hudson Rouse, Babygirl (@babygirl.atl) opened ...

I think I can get a bill after
Seems like fedex and maybe ups are charging a tariff handling fee of like $15 too
"Why aren't we talking about..."
"Roswell"
That's why.
GET THAT OUTLANTA NONSENSE OUTTA HERE
maybe I didn't need that last cup of coffee... anyway, yeah, I was talking about dropping by stellow for soft opening. I can def only "drop by" for a cuppa (busy day), so may or may not see y'all. Def down to try for a longer 4/25 visit if you want to hang/talk shop Zo/David.

#Omeret...
@plush sinew dis you?
When that song came out someone was like āhey Lindbergh is in Atlantaā and I was happy to explain that sheās talking about the great city of Lilburn.
Every time I buy rogue wave Iām reminded that they are way developed and then Iām left wondering how much I suck
Yeah this song ruffled some feathers when I came out
4 years ago I was on vacation in Florida and my wife looked me in the eyes and said āI need you to stop talking about Covid all the timeā š
Yeah I've never bought beans from them
Iām almost always disappointed though I had a lovely washed Sudan rume from them last year
Those that are available 4/18 to meet at Stellow -- what time works for you?
I just read that Sweet Bloom coffee is now ranked some of the best in the world. Has anybody tried them? If so, what are your thoughts? Thinking of trying their Jorge Rojas Geisha for fruity pebbles š
I think if Iām in your shoes and spending money and I want a treat I would buy from hydrangea or maybe September. But I havenāt tried sweet bloom.
Oh thank you!
I honestly wasnāt trying to spend a ton of money, but the Sweet Bloom geisha looks to be cheaper than any geisha I could get in Atlanta, and the thought of having it from a world class coffee place makes it that much more interesting. I thought it would be a bargain geisha š
I cannot make it this weekend, but the 25th I am!
I need one of these
I forgot to tell you guys about the new Oxo stuff.
Oxo gave Lance a prototype of a new bottom/basket thatās all metal. It is 54mm so thicker puck and can do 15g
Second Oxo partnered with Osprey and is releasing a carrying bag. Lance has it and itās able to fit the Oxo and an A2, but cannot fit a scale too
Also, the m98v we were using at Sey house had the original burrs Lance helped design. Not whatever the current newest edition has, but I believe you can request the old ones.
The grinder burr combo gave great clarity and lots sweetness
Osprey and oxo are the same parent company so that tracks
That is sexy and I wish I could have tried it
I think a smaller dose soup would be the main plus for me.
Yep small dose is the main appeal for me
Oh never would have guessed
Wow. They have quite the portfolio
Crazy. The way we buy coffee equipment they buy companies
Some planning. Mostly fafo
yeah they do, u can pay online before they deliver with the tracking they give, itās cheaper than paying when the driver is at your gate. ik for commercial site delivery cards r allowed but they charge more than that $15 šµ
YESSSS, GIVE IN TO THE DARK LIGHT SIDE!
Neeed it @desert dawn !!!
Gimme
I have ordered labels for it so if all goes well this one will be released.
Day 0
Juliana Guevara Honey Gesha:
Iām getting a big bouquet of florals like: gardenia, lilac, something like lime zest. There is some tartness possibly from cherry. Some fruit like pear, apricot.
Texture, is interesting. Importer mentioned hoppy texture and I definitely see it. Makes the cup playful.
Eventually the dark side will come too š
Stellow looking really nice
Whoās going tomorrow
