Youāre getting the a2 I assume that should be more blendy?
A2, a4z for my little brother⦠maybe a few more if there is a CNY sale
A2 should be identical to q2 I think
Nice!
Just brewed up a washed Peruvian geisha from the roster who shall not be named. Absolutely incredible. 12.5:200 on the Gabi
Damn that blew me away
Damn, should I open this baby up??
wait who is this roaster? ||is it prodigal?||
Has to be. His name is mud
I was guessing it was a guy that likes the braves š¤·āāļø
Yes
Yeah you should dawg
Bag opened
I'm not a particularly alarmist person, but I'm running out of coffee water, so buying 3 gallons of distilled water at the grocery store today made me feel a certain way LOL
would like to second the gititu praise. . . though you'll be more disappointed in me than my dad once I tell you it was a 50/50 because I was using the rest of some thankfully beans š¬
BUT I CHOSE CAREFULLY BY BEAN TYPE AND FLAVORS, DAD!
I grabbed 2 jugs from Publix myself
Whatās weird though is that I put them on their side and they started leaking
Must have been packaged by Atlanta watershed management
Think theyāre okay to use? lol
I had a water jug ruin our wood floor as it slowly leaked
Oooff
As someone not accustomed to ice storms, but very familiar with hurricanes, I treated it as the same:
Bought booze and filled up some reusable water bottles.
Although I am slightly worried about losing power because we lose power every other time it rains. š
I do have a propane stove, so I can make moka pot coffee. š¤
ZP6+moka pot honestly sounds sketchy now that I think of it.
I think my biggest fear at the moment is death by tree
When I lived in Brookhaven I couldnāt believe how often we lost power
When I bought my house death by tree was real. We had so many huge pines right up against the house. I ended up getting them cut. When we went outside seeing them on the ground it was pretty sad⦠but Iām not willing to take the risk
Ya the main thing is the ability to stay warm/eat if we lose power for any lengthy period of time. Canāt drive on ice, snow would be better
Yeah this is where I am. We have big gorgeous pines I donāt want to take down definitely should. When it snowed last January we had a massive branch just barely miss our house and took out our fence
I have taken down 3 trees since buying in 2018. Had one branch fall and puncture the roof. Had one branch fall and take down the powerline and my weathermast.
So @gaunt gulch and I are rocking Chevy Bolts. I'm curious if I could camp in the back with the seats folded flat and heat on low....
Oh shit!
And @gaunt gulch here is one of my favorite reddit posts in awhile. ššš
Mesmerizing to the end. š¤
That looks really neat!
Shitty work flow for him. Bouncing around to get coffee on the right of the machine and then trying to run to the left of the machine to grab milk and back and forth. Took probably literally 10 steps probably just to make 1 cup. 300 cups a day I would be on the floor
That would make a great lighter for a cigar or something
... Or something
Man that clicker was really satisfying. I would be playing with that all day
Lol it's nice
Butane
Yeah I feel like it was extra on purpose. Or maybe he's usually ringing up someone, and making 3 drinks at a time typically.
I too once had a bolt š¢
Cmon man! Get another!!
You got like 1 production year to get the new one
Got two Nissans
Lucid is working on a bidirectional charger.
https://lucidmotors.com/charging/
This will be awesome for hurricane/snow storm level events. Lucid are pricy cars, but cheaper than 6-7 Tesla powerwalls.
Iām not going to recommend the Ariya but safety features work well
Looking at that ev9
Stupid kids making friends and now I got to start carrying them and their friends and all their crap
I really dislike parking big cars. I did test drive the Chrysler phev van but they didnāt charge it so it was just using that sad engine driving around Cobb county for the test drive š
But think of all the coffee gear you can fit too!
That Chrysler van is awesome. I rented one when I moved to ATL. I kind of want one and I don't even have kids.
We rented the gas one once, it was great.
I wonder what used EV9s will be selling for
I have the Chrysler van. The Pacifica plug in hybrid. I do have the pinnacle model thatās fully fully loaded. Kids love it. I loved the tax credit and tax write off
First up for today. Forgot how good this was. Itās been in the freezer for 6 months or so
I believe thatās Diego Bermudezās farm heās got crazy coffee projects going on
This is what I have been playing with.
Made a Blooming Espresso shot. Ate it with a twinkie cause thats my weekend guilty coffee pleasure.
When hot, this coffee is very floral, moderately citric, and full of dark fruits (think: grapes, cooked cherries, and strawberries). The texture is juicy, and the finish is long. As the coffee approaches a pleasantly warm temperature, florality and citrus increase, and fruit flavors become more fresh (cooked cherry moves to fresh cherry, for exa...
I love this
Twinkies and coffee are a great combo!
Breakfast of champions. $$$$ espresso cause you classy. $ Twinkie cause your a real human
Are the pacamara beans huge
Yes!!
I ordered some maracaturra beans and told they will be huge too. I donāt have experience with XL beans and people say they have their own complications in roasting so I thought I would practice
That is an interesting variable. Makes sense though. Different density too I'm assuming?
At Belux
One of my favorite beans for espresso a year ago was a pacamara I bought a kg of it
Possibly. The main thing is the batch size in the roaster. 100g of a small bean vs 100g of XL takes up more room in the roaster. My understanding is Pacamara likes to roast fast, but due to its size itās more prone to roasting defects like tipping, facing, scorching so itās a double whammy
So Iām assuming Iāll have to reduce my typical batch size
Opened up new boulder blend. Almost 3 weeks off roast, should be dark enough.
This is really good.
Yeah I think I'll have to give Prodigal another shot
I'm trying so hard to clean out my freezer though

I think Iām only going to purchase the boulder blend for now. I think Iām going to try different weeks rather than fill a kg of just one blend.
For washed filter I think Iām going to stick with other options.
How are you guys keeping track of things? In the past I would just watch Brad Nitz feeds
From NWS Atlanta
Tik tok. I thought it was a reliable source š¤·āāļø
I mean this is from formerly twitter š¤·š¼āāļø
There is a guy I like on tik tok
https://www.tiktok.com/@mikesweatherpage?_r=1&_t=ZP-93LkugqgE51
People talk about Glenn burns in Atlanta but I have not followed him
I primarily like the people who say this is as of right now. These are weather models from X. Then offer their professional opinion. I hate the ones that do it for views and put the most unlikely option as real
Yeah twitter is super cool with people calling Brad a liar because another weather person is being optimistic.
Ok ice storm, I'm ready for you to knock out the power so i don't have you see stuff like this https://www.instagram.com/reel/DSU1JQrkpBU/?igsh=eHNtbWhteHNsMjJn

How yall doing?? All have power?
Power on here š
Good here too
21 days off roast, finally opening up some new beans. Oxo soup š
Ooo Iāve got that too
No issues here
Oh my god I jinxed it
Our lights just flickered
Presumably plenty of opportunity for branches to fall still
I see a big one that fell but luckily landed in an empty area in the backyard
Same. 2 times so far.
Yup
So I polished off the bag from yesterday, working on this. Not sure I'm a fan of these super funky ferments. First shot was straight up bad, second shot was better. Still have some tweaking.
I have a black and white subscription, so they just throw these randomly at me. I might ask if they can send me some regular, non-funky stuff for a month or two. š
I donāt enjoy co-ferments as much. They were interesting but the last one I had just tasted like watermelon candy and it was hard to enjoy.
I think my favorite coferments are peach and strawberry as milk espresso drinks. But they are still very one note.
peach co-ferment is lovely iced
Ooooh that does sound good too
In my backyard I have a bunch of my neighbors smaller trees all leaning over the fence now. Hoping it doesnāt take it out
Normally all of that is upright
Yeah looks like you have more ice
People kept saying Getacha was good but I couldnāt seem to dial it in
It seemed like a solid Ethiopian to me but I have to add a bit more water to soup. I used the last of my previous bag for Gabi and I recall it being decent. Have had better cups for sure.
I am trying to cancel my order because I realized I wanted another bag š¬
I'm sorry, those are nice and not cheap
Why are the icicles getting longer instead of melting from the rain š
Power starting to act up here. Cut off twice
yup. we lost ours for 5min
glad i have APC backups on our fiber modem
keeps that going
Still good out here
Friends in a midtown lost power a bit ago. https://outagemap.georgiapower.com
I lost power in Doraville for about 10 minutes earlier.
Apparently Iāve been using the Gabi base upside down this whole time š¤¦āāļø
Which way is right side up? I decided it doesnāt matter
The bit that sticks out fits perfectly inside my kinto coffee jug limiting movement so Iāve been happy to use it that way
Me: I don't know what the problem is, this thing seems reversible. Gabi base:
Iāve been doing it with the outer lip facing down. Doesnāt seem super secure on either of my carafes but when I do lip up it seems more secure
Oh but it does seem to fit either way on my new kinto
Love the kinto
Last one of the day
I just did a similar Gabi brew, Hydrangea Washed Habtamu Fekadu Aga
Dear Atlanta,
So glad you made it through this utterly fearful moment of slight chill.
The brief and terrifying 1mm of ice that coated only your imagination was truly a test of your resolve.
Good job.
-God, probably.
Some of the icicles were longer than sewing needles fyi. It was very scary.
Suddenly I was living in the dragonās belly.
An incredible visual description
The EAF members are getting closer to my house... š¤Ø
CP didn't have any trees take down all of Mclendon this time, so as far as I'm concerned, that's a big fat W
I'm surprised I didn't lose power
Hey! Welcome to the group
Driving on treacherous peachtree where few dare.
I see Georgia power dealing with some tree damage on Lindbergh
I have been at work in Chamblee since 8. Driving in was a breeze. Just cold. No ice.
Doraville is the same
good to see they salted 400/285
anyone try this place yet? https://www.instagram.com/common.coffee.cocktails/
Welcome @willow jasper
Not yet, so they strictly do La Cabra?
Not sure. They look quite interesting though. I might stop tomorrow.
Sweet! Let me know how you like it
La Cabra - classic espresso drinks (Americano, Latte, etc.)
Passenger - current creative signatures, lending depth and story to drinks like āPear-wellā and āAmber Fallā
Hydrangea & Blendin - not yet on our drink menu, theyāre key inspirations in our R&D lab ā youāll likely see their surprise debut in future seasonal specials.
@desert dawn yeah, my youngest loves to eat and we've been able to curtail his calories and our own by swapping white jasmine rice for brown jasmine rice. Needs a bit more cooking time and a touch more water but it can be pretty good.
I should go there and buy this bad boy
Interesting. Iām excited for the coffee scene growing here
Ya I donāt think Iāve nailed the cook on Jasmine. Taste wise I donāt mind it
You know I also get kinda sad seeing our Atlanta shops not able to show case any local roasters
I know that sounds biased but Atlanta needs better representation. Iām sure there is some gems we have not discovered yet
My preferences just shifted so light that I shot past the profile range of every place I used to make trips to.
Guess if I was already out and wanted some beans for soup lattes I could grab some Opo.
I believe Opo is on the darker side out of the Atlanta roasters?
They also have the Maker's Mark Coffee....
I think I roast on the lighter side. I personally am too afraid to give beans to a cafe
No doubt.. Why I would just grab for milk drinks. But is there a light-to-medium roaster inside the perimeter?
All of the Atlanta roasters are on the dark side of the spectrum compared to what I order online. Sure, a few in the American medium side of the spectrum, but none that I would say is more light than medium.
Maybe I need to revisit or have not tried someone.
No I agree
Some stuff here and there may be a lighter medium
But I get it. They are roasting for their audience and what they know
For Lume so far my roasts have been oops to light and shops are not equipped for that
Trying to think, I know a couple attempted a few less-developed bags in the past.
Even thought Radio might go down that path when they started sourcing those full-spectrum bags back in the day.
By that I mean their skills are centered around medium roasts or darks. Brewing such light coffee is not as easy
A radio full spectrum bag in 2023 totally changed my interest in coffee
I donāt think Radio is as light anymore. They sold earlier this year
Sorry last year now
I was still on the B&W bottomless scale then and a few of those radio bags were fun.
I think for Bana members and preferences itās hard to find coffee in Atlanta, but realistically I would say most cites in America donāt have coffee that light
This one was amazing
š So excited to announce this new addition! šā

This is a truly special coffee only available from Radio Roasters. ā

this one
I wonder if thatās when Alexys was roasting for them
Yeah I was about to post it, I kept buying bags it was my main go to
I would prob turn all of these into soup lattes for my wife now
I remember when Radio was making a big presence with their Hi Fi blend
I think they are still good. They are just def in the medium roast territory
When I try Atlanta roasters I adjust my opinion based on their target market not necessarily my taste preference. If they serve their market well then good job. If they canāt do that then it annoys me. We do have some bigger name roasters here that donāt give an F
Thatās harsh for dancing goat
You know I actually didnāt even consider them
š
I have not been to one in over a decade, but I guess I have to now
They are doing their thing, looks like there are five stores now
What are they using at Bellwood? I used to get a cap there if I was in a pinch.
Iām not sure actually
I tried spiller park when I was on jury duty last November. It wasnāt good.
When I try the shops here I either get a pour over if offered or batch drip.
Iām lactose intolerant and donāt like the nut milks so options are limited
What have been your top shops so far?
I was going to East Pole for a while, I've mentioned that before, I ordered an anaerobic processed for pour over to see what they could do with it but they just used their pour over machine and the resulting coffee had water post brew that was way too hot to brew with
Made me kind of scared that they would sell this to someone
I donāt know. It tasted rancid. My fault for thinking they would brew it well.
Weāll have a modbar pourover system at my shop. I will not program it hot af
I mainly went to roasters to learn and compare my progress.
-Belux - I appreciate that they want to offer specialty with a slow pour bar. I had La Esmeralda which was medium light. My wife had a dark roast latte
-East Pole - I had a decent cup. Probably medium light. I saw the barista pouring it back and forth between carafe and cup so maybe yes their brew is hot ?
-Flow Danny is very nice friendly. Cares about what heās serving. I had his obligon (sp) on espresso at SCA and enjoyed it. Roast is ??
-Valor friendly staff. Seemed knowledgeable. Lots of offerings from big names. I think itās a more modern take and great for their target. Roast is medium?
-Azara the cafe manager is related to my wife. I have had some tasty seasonal lattes. Roast is medium.
-Lume Roasters my company. Knowledgable, friendly but no shop. Also, should probably list more stuff for sale. Roasts are very light atm.
Nice. Where you planning on opening
Downtown Chamblee
Probably a month out
When I say my shop I just mean the company I work for (owner and I). Weāre just a mobile op rn
where
Very cool
I only schedule with Alex
Maybe I can take the train to Davidās shop and cosplay a city dweller.
Yeah thatās a major issue. Rent is very high
Awesome. Are you guys going to be near Kin
Right next to Antigua Lobo??
I work very close by. I'm going there for Taco Tuesday tomorrow. š
I really do like beluxā¦
My cafe works pretty tightly with valor. They only use āFreethrowā in their cafes which Iād say is medium compared to their other coffees
We use Workers Comp, which is their medium-dark imo. It has a pretty prominent nuttyness in a milk drink
Belux is great, would love if theyād try a lighter roast
Nice. Very familiar with the area. I wanted to stay down there for ever but everything was too expensive so now Iām OTP lol
Chamblee has changed so much. I remember where there wasnāt much of anything on Peachtree
Yeah I started visiting Chamblee for work every few months in 2016, and the boom I saw even since then was nuts. And I know it started earlier. (I only moved to GA in late 2023)
I think Chamblee is the the fastest or one of the fastest growing cities in GA.
Yeah! Just off the back of them!
I was surprised how much chamblee had changed I was riding my bike to the Marta station from the Kia dealership back in 2023. Peachtree industrial is still terrible but at the Marta station itās pretty great.
I rented a house with some friends around 2015 and it felt like we were on the fringes of the city back then. Truly nothing but car dealerships, storage, and rundown strip malls. Itās insane how different it is now. I remember when they started building the Whole Foods.
Eventually moved into Brookhaven basically in the boarder of Chamblee
Over by the Costco
Yeah that Marta station was clutch. Weād take that to go see hawks / falcons games etc
Buckhead was still the place to be so it wasnāt too far from the bars and stuff
Now I think everyone wants to be on the beltline
They are trying to build up Lindbergh center near me especially as the belt line eventually reaches it but Iām worried those restaurants wonāt make it. White windmill not nearly as busy as the doraville location.
The Clifton corridor was supposed to be connected to it and work being done by now. Then it changed to a bus, now it may be moved to armor yards where there isnāt even a real station. Back when I moved here in 2012 I told some city of Decatur OGs about the Clifton corridor and they looked at me in the eye and said thatās not being built in our lifetime.
Now that I understand MARTA itself to be an accident of history, a gift from successful NIMBYs in Seattle itās easier for me to understand why transit is mostly an afterthought.
So sad. If a city ever needed a good transit system itās Atlanta
That Esmeralda was great, but from a regular perspective I've enjoyed my Lume more than east pole and radio
I'm also having a harder time with my second sey washed Ethiopian
I moved here two years ago and the beltline does seem really cool but I have started cycling a lot more and part of me wants to move to Roswell or closer to silver comet lol
But then I would be a poopy traffic commute away from all my friends and will have to make new ones
I do like easy access to airport where I am though! And donāt mind the early morning no traffic weekend drives to silver comet or the greenway
I tried to ride my bike on the SE beltline when it was just dirt, but too difficult to ride in clay and sand
Whatās a good spot to meet an out of town friend for drinks down in the cabbage town area
Lloyd's, Mambo Zombi, 97 estoria
Just need a spot to pour now!
Is it good cupped
I'll have to try that actually. I was trying to figure it out through my last bag when someone what mentioned they had very little acidity in either
dammit it's so cold my headlight washers popped out the front of my car. . . first world problems
I have performance tires on my car and in the cold they are more like hockey pucks. I drifted out of the parking lot getting lunch.
My side mirrors wouldnāt open
It was 16 degrees when I rolled into work this morning!
I preheated yon vehicle while it was plugged in at home before taking kiddo to daycare. Nice and warm. yay.
Came back home (because I was a slowass not ready to go to work) and parked it in the driveway for maybe 15 minutes before I came back out to leave.
The heat death of the universe had occurred in my car where once there was warmth.
The leather? stiff. frigid.
The air? Like breathing in snow.
My soul? Gone, forthwith, from my body.
Next time I'm leaving the dang car on, sorry Mother Earth.
Mother Earth understands
Ha
Roasting has destroyed any hope that I ever had of getting through my backlog
Sooooooooooooooo.... Are you going to yard sale your coffee or what?
Or maybe you could come to the next coffee meet and share the wealth! Cmon man!
I might have to
How is the roasting side project going?
Itās been a lot of fun. @desert dawn has been a huge help
Is any of it good? Probably not
The roaster came with bunch of half pound bags of different varietals so Iāve just been roasting those up and trying to get my footing. I think each roast I do is better than the last so thatās cool
I just got a 3 pound bag of Kenya Githiga AA
So hoping that roasting more of 1 type will help me dial in a little more than doing a bunch of different types
Iāve done 10 roasts so far. I think 7 are drinkable
Couple roasts from this morning

"Optimized for espresso"
Love Estoria
I saw the stranger things cast there once (Finn, Sadie, and Gavin)
Oh man my daughter will be so jealous when I tell her
@desert dawn you see Lance made a video about the Deep 27?
I still haven't bought one. But I kinda want to play with it
Not yet. Iāll def check it out. Iāve been using it for the past week or two exclusively
I like the idea of 10g doses, but itās finicky. I think easy to over extract
Ahhhh that makes sense
Haha I had to buy filters from cafec and they had it Lume green so I pulled the trigger
I am annoyed because Filter 3.0 on the Decent is just so dang easy to make solid filter coffee. And I wish I had that capability at work.
Thats why the Aiden or Xbloom might be in my future.
It does look pretty....
Iām not sold on it being ideal since at the moment I think dialing in is tougher than v60
So I like the Aiden on single cups, I dont at the moment on large batch
On a full 1500ml batch I think itās ok. It does have temp and pulse control, but Iām not sure itās worth it if thatās your goal
Naw. I'm usually making a 16g pourover at work.
Single cup effectively
Espresso at home then PO at work.
Yeah I think it can do a good job there. Any other options you are considering
A second DE1 for work.

I donāt know enough about the xbloom but I feel like the built in grinder has gotten some complaints?
My only problem is the first DE1 blew my coffee budget for the next 3 years
Oh yeah, I would use a separate grinder fosho
Honestly the V60 PO at work is solid. I'm just always tinkering and dreaming of the next step.
Just convince work they need an Eversys so I can come try it. Iāve heard great things about this super auto. It runs between a Toyota corolla or Toyota Rav 4 depending on model you choose
Iām pretty sure you could get a Tesla
The office crew loves their Folgers on a 3 burner Bunn coffee maker.
I buy about 30 pounds of Folgers every month or so from Sam's club...
I honestly need to try it again. I donāt remember what it tastes like
On the occasion I brew it, I admire the particle size distribution. They have a solid grinder. š
I bought an Xbloom last December. Sold it six months later
Damn! So what's your daily driver now?
V60 01, Gabi, or ORB.
- Grinder was way too blendy compared to the ZP6.
- Pod system was a half-effort on their part and not priced competitively. Also they had a $75 threshold for free shipping.
- In the XBloom discord, I was more active than their entire team. I basically was running R&D and tech support for them for free. Had people tagging me instead of them.
- The pour rate is 3-3.5 ml/sec. They had a vibration setting for agitation but it was not effective.
- The temp was capped at like 205F on recipes. You can go up to 212F on the manual brewer. When the tea maker came out, it had recipes with boiling temp and when asked why it could but not coffee, they did not know why.
- The recipe system was a mess. They took away the ability to search recipes by roaster and removed a couple data points like type of coffee, region. In the end, I basically just created a 32642 recipe or modified the Feran recipe and used nothing else. So not using their recipe "database, the grinder, or pod system removes most of the appeal.
- Not really something I needed, but not being able to brew via timer was a miss for others.
How could there not be an answer for 5?
Not that the other stuff is good either
Gahhh dang!! Well Xbloom is off the list.
Yeah #5 is B.S. Maybe they outsource their programming and its subpar?
Also the system was all server based. So when that was down, many could not use it.
They created a mode where you could assign a recipe to A, B, or C. I used that and never used those recipe cards again. I know people used reader apps to put their own recipes on the cards. But I only needed those two recipes and one for decaf.
Yeah this wouldn't fly for me. I bought a BBQ accessory that was bricked when the manufacturer and the server host got into an argument. Thankfully Costco took it back.
Oh they definitely outsourced. It was a VC group in Cali.
They learned about pourover on the fly from discord.
I need to pay attention to the Aiden. I canāt remember if I can access custom profiles if itās not connected to WiFi
Pretty early on we had mods to use our plastic V60 01, that kept me going a bit longer with it.
Then I added another mod to use the melodrip too.
That would suck if it didn't
Xbloom filters > machine for me.
They already seemed to be pivoting to store account focus before I sold mine.
Oh I saw the video Decent posted about the sound of their new pump. I was impressed itās so quiet
STOP TRYING TO MAKE ME SPEND MONEY
Like cafes?
Maybe the trade in deal will be good š¤·āāļø
They announced the Williams-Sonoma or Crate & Barrel deal in discord like machine owners were supposed to be excited about that
yes, store accounts
Oh got it
Yeah I am curious about that. And yeah when he clicked the mouse and it was the louder, I was impressed
it was this big thing and everyone was like, will the software be updated to fix the recipes anytime soon?
and crickets
Ya thatās brutal when you know specialty coffee is so active
As a coffee company like Xbloom, I would feel that consumers would be a bigger market than commercial accounts... Weird.
At the end of the day, making your own recipe on there involves having to guess when the bed will get dry and timing the pause between pours to avoid that. So you have to trial and error several cups/adjust grind size or pour timing.
So a product designed to make pour-over simple, in fact, becomes more complex. At least, for pour-over enthusiasts.
My complete guess is the consumer sales did not hit the mark their investors were told.
Maybe they blew through that VC capital quickly. Again, complete conjecture.
It's a solid theory
I just remember when the app would go down, you had to wait for the one CS person to wake up in Cali, then they had to contact their tech developer in China.
Having 2 recipes I knew fit my cup preference, then just adjusting grind, I ultimately just went back to manual because it is not a machine that saves you time or makes better coffee than you can.
Which is what basically they sold the machine on doing
you can absolutely tap the card, hit one of the three knobs, or use the app to start the process. But you stil have to drop the beans in the chute and also make sure that after they grind, half the grinds don't fall outside the filter as the arm returns to the brewer side. Which would happen fairly often.
Gabi does 10g doses really well...
This coversation is right in line with what I've been thinking about lately. My company is based in Boston but now that almost half the company is in Atlanta theyre talking about getting an office space. I told my boss I gotta help pick the coffee machine
Was looking at the Xbloom and the Aiden and I'm not really sure they'd be friendly to the non coffee nerds
Might go Moccamaster

I had never heard of these but this could be what I get for the office
I have a friend who uses it. I got him to get a Sey sub a few months later
How does Sey relate?? Is that brewer setup perfect for brewing their stuff?
(When I think of Sey, I think ultra light)
On the broad spectrum they are for sure. It relates in that you are taking advantage of higher extraction with a bit less roast development and getting someone to appreciate flavor separation at an approachable level. More importantly, with a consistent process vs how volatile pourover can be.
Sey is comfort roast for me now
Is this your office?
Now that Iām pretty much just drinking clean washed beans for filter I kind of want to try sey again
#1436385688634261536 message
Need batch brewer for my companyās new office
Think Aiden and XBloom might not be a good fit for the people there
Small office maybe like 10 people
Eh maybe 15
Almost never all at once tho
Gotta make sure the water is good
Thatll likely be out of my hands
I have an opinion but I like simple things that work
So itās decided you need to get a decent and a filter 3
If using their pods, bloom could be a feasible office machine. Just tap the card, open the pod, pour the beans down the hatch, put the pod in the pod holder, and push play. Jay requires each employee to make their own cup. Upside is no coffee wasted. You can plumb it into a water tank to avoid having to refill during the day.
Wouldn't need to use the app for anything other than machine maintenance.
Barstool pizza reviewed a pizza place inside a mercado in Sandy Springs called Pizza by Yandy's. TIL about this place
$2 a pod usually though. Built in filter/disposable brewer. There is a sub that's 32 pods for $38 every two weeks. But you could ask for the office prices:
that poor mercado about to get so many gringos
Oh yeah I remember reading about that in one of the Atlanta blogs
Too late
Oh I heard about that place
Saw this in the Buy/Sell thread for a Moccamaster. Thought it was applicable.
Dang pizza by Yandyās looks amazing
I did have a Moccamaster for a couple of weeks!
Just a couple weeks huh?
Haha thatās exactly what Iām thinking is itās easy enough for non coffee nerds but good enough for me
Had the Xbloom for 6 months and the Moccamaster for a couple of weeks?
26 days, to be exact.
I hated the water dispenser arm. Basically, at least half, if not more, of the coffee bed is not getting direct water contact And, you have to turn it off if you want a bloom phase, because it will just start throwing down water the moment it heats up until all of the water is dispersed.
This was back in 2023. It would still be easy compared to the Aiden/XBloom. Just turn off after you have a bloom pour, and manually move the spray arm to evenly saturate. But at the time, I was just not a fan of $250 if I had to still have manual steps. It heats water up like a champ, though.
Gotcha... Yeah I came in to work and made a PO that just hit the spot. And I realized I might be thinking too hard about all of this. Haha
This is probably about ODD. Am I right?
Oh, there is absolutely analysis paralysis going on
Positives of moccamaster is it should handle office environment. Negative is that itās a touch astringent I guess it didnāt quite bloom well enough.
I also donāt like how big the cup sizes are for the better models. Those models do have a keep warm base
I had the Moccamaster 53949 KBGV Select
Bingo, yep!
Ratio 4 with some instructions. Hold it for volumes less than 300 tap it above 300. Have a scale. I actually weigh the water on the scale rather than fill by line.
It doesnāt keep it warm. Thatās the only negative and for me it was a positive.
aux has a killer Sebastian Ramirez co-ferment rn
gonna check out Common Coffee today too
What a crazy selection for a cold brew
I wonder what heās using for drip
lemme ask
This coffee comes to us from a talented young producer named Damian, and his family farm Buena Vista. We taste meyer lemon, sweet green apple candy, brown sugar. Does anyone here have a bambino + baratza encore ESP
and can teach me to dial in da beans
I keep making lemon juice shots and itās making me sad but also keeping me up at night through sheer over caffeination
It's pretty great.
are you drinking the espresso straight or adding milk?
I am drinking straight up to test the flavor but I eventually add frothed milk and make a latte
Love that weāre getting a new multi roaster!
Iāve not used either machine but should be able to find some help here. I see some suggestions on Reddit about steps for heating and discussion about preinfusion. I personally prefer milk drinks and I mostly prefer close to turbo so a touch coarser than traditional espresso.
Headed to Morelliās for some ice cream cake
VaHi lights are a nice touch. And thereās a chevron
- How many gram dose?
- How much output?
- How many seconds does it take?
- Which beans?
- Temp of the water for the shot?
PDL. By millenial memers, for millenial memers
- 17.5 g
- I have test 35g up to 50g, all sour
- 30 seconds ish to get 1:2
- Currently using Sweet Bloom Hometown Blend roasted 1/14
- This I donāt know. Donāt exactly have control of it but I always pre-warm the group head and basket to get everything as hot as possible
For additional prep, I use WDT tool and have 1.7 mm puck screen.
I am using 14-18 g IMS basket in a bottomless portafilter
I think thereās just too many variables lol and im a little overwhelmed. I pre infuse every time as well, but not sure how long I am supposed to.
I think you may be over extracting. Can you try pulling a shot with no coffee into a plastic cup and see how hot the water is with an instant read thermometer?
Can you try pulling a shot with no preinfusion seeing if that tastes better?
So good! The one in vahi?
Iām glad they kept the lights on beyond Christmas
My daughter went to a friends house there last year and she was telling me about how they walked into town from the house and then went to academy for hot chocolate and to morellis later for ice cream. Super jealous of that kind of living.
We used to go to Yeah burger over there.
Damn not that close. That sounds nice af
I have checked it very few of those restaurants. Only the pizza place (way to sweet) and farm burger
I havenāt been to farm burger in ages
It was child directed
The buckhead farm burger closed I think 2 years ago and the vahi location is apparently closing. Midtown location is somehow not great either. Maybe just decreased quality with expansion
Dang thatās a bummer. When it first opened Iād frequent it and thought it was pretty dece
NFA best burger in Atlanta tho
When I used to commute from city of Decatur to Grady I would starve the whole day and pick up a burger with a fried egg on the way back and enjoy the fuck out of that thing
Up at Meadowlark today in Gainesville
Great multi roaster. Trying the sl28 washed from Ilse on Xbloom
Dude NFA burger rules
164 F (highest temp on thermometer I see when water dripped on it)
Yeah I think itās over extracted for sure
bitter today
I pull shots at 190f. 164f seems slow. That might make it sour.
I think the water in the group head itself is hotter? I also temped it off the first shot and didnāt pre-heat by running first whoops
it cools so quickly as soon as it exits
But I assume the bambino just doesnāt get that hot from what I understand
Have you tried to make it hotter with the steam wand trick
I have not š š„ŗ
Try with and without preinfusion and taste them side by side. I'd target 17g in, 34g out in 24 seconds for both shots.
It does. Glad we have Smiley's in Decatur to save me the commute.
Fred's and Bonafide have the closest thing to what we had with the Meatstick at One-Eared Stag (RIP).
Fred's is also so good. I haven't been to Smiley's but want to
I did no pre infusion on my first shot today and it tasted bitter (first better shot ever, itās usually always sour!)
Second shot I did same dose with 5 second prefusion, and it was sour
I think since itās a medium/light roast I need to increase the dose a lot prob. Thatās probably the only thing I havenāt tried at this point. Maybe thereās too much headspace
oh I'm just now showing up to this discussion. Bambi is also just shredding your coffee with high pressure, so that's always going to be tough. Turbos perform really well though. Other consideration is maybe roast-age? If it's pretty recent, you might be feeling it's sour/acidic because it just needs more off-gas time.
1/14 roast
idk about the 14-18g basket, I suspect you're running close to "full" - I know with 18-22g basket an 18g shot sometimes (bean dependent) fills that sucker up
I have been using the razor tool to make sure thereās enough space and thereās a coin thick gap between the bottom of the razor and my puck screen
I also find a non- straight wall basket to underextract the sides, which is more noticeable on light roasts.
Hm so should I try the stock basket?
A milled basket might help. How is the stock basket?
I think first playing with variables you have makes most sense before sworks'in it up.
defo suggest saving a couple doses of that roast and seeing how you feel about it a month out rather than 2 weeks.
True
Unsure barely used it: https://www.breville.com/en-us/product/sp0001520
I immediately went to IMS per recommendations
Iāll try letting it sit!
I have a new bag of Onyx Geometry Iām too scared to open
Also a light roast that I wouldnāt have bought because of intimidation on dialing in, but I got it as a chrimus gift š„¹
The Breville stock basket is a bit tapered so maybe I try it
Might actually be worth down-dosing. Obviously means you have to re-dial grind, but that should then also make it pretty immediately apparent if your grind was problematic
I am worried about too much head space if I dose down
do I need a smaller basket if I do?
I already have a nickel sized room at 17.5 g dose and with 1.7 mm pick screen on top when checking with the razor tool
Not sure if the razor is supposed to actually touch the puck screen
I am not sure if my puck screen is interfering? I just like it to keep my group head clean really
Not sure if that is increasing it takes for the coffee to start dropping (takes 13 seconds, with or without the puck screen either way, so probably not)
Oh id keep the puck screen 100%
Try the geometry. I'm curious your results
Have you ever tried to dial in with a different grinder?
What will that bad boy be used for mostly?
Dang that is some heavy investment in equipment!
So yall had a coffee cart prior to this storefront?
How often were yall booked? Or did you popup at places typically?
The owner started this about six years ago, purely doing mobile carts and events. Iād say weāre booked three days out of the week sometimes concurrent events on the same day.
Mostly corporate clients
So I manage the mobile side now while he focuses on the cafĆ©, but I get some input and say on what equipment to get and how things should work since Iām the only one whoās worked at a cafĆ© before
The buildout for the cafƩ only started about three months ago
My friend has an NZ and I took over my Onyx Tropical Weather light roast and he was able to dial it in beautifully
No sourness, no bitterness, beautiful texture
he has a gaggia classic machine
Iām planning on bringing my bambino to his house at some point to see if I can get decent results with his Niche Zero
I kinda regret buying the EESP
I feel like I was far enough into the espresso rabbithole at that point that I wish I just preordered the DF64 when it was on sale lol
Otherwise I havenāt tried a different grinder because I donāt have one on me
before my own setup I was using my old roommate Breville barista touch but I always made milk drinks so didnāt really matter
Now that I have a more manual set up Iāve been testing flavors/beans etc
So far they all taste like lemon juice ahaha
Ive never booked a mobile coffee cart. Can you give me a price run down? I'm curious how it works!
Ahhhh don't be so hard on yourself. It might be a technique you can tweak!
But yeah I'm curious how it goes with your dialing in with a NZ
Iāll keep you in the loop!
Well let us know when the grand opening is so we can all pull up and support!
I'm also curious if you can dial in the ESP to the Gaggia. šš
HAHAH that would be funny! Iāll bring both and give it a go!
Booking are a min of 2 hours. We bring everything needed (cups/lids/ice/milks/alt milk/barista). Clients pick syrups too from our list. If you were interested in pricing you could fill out our form and I could build a quote for you!
Yeah can you send the link? I have occasional events for work, but I think they are a tad too small.
But it's always worth finding out!
Just submitted. Plz don't doxx me
Ooo Iām trying to host more lunch and learns for the new hires/early career folks at my job and would be cool to have a coffee cart
but I am too pleb in the chain to make it happen but could maybe convince an Exec to sponsor
ok. for pourover my boss got 2 hario switches!
i was worried about origami tbh because i heard those were more difficult to do well consistantly
also, who knew laying out equipement on bar would be so tough bar flow wise
Brewed up some of the beans I roasted and it was the first batch that was actually dece
I feel like @desert dawn and you should make a "friend's and family bag" aka your friends and family know you're a coffee person and they want to drink coffee at your house but definitely will not enjoy the lightness of the beans that you drink. So here's one that's a little bit more developed AKA I may have over roasted for my normal clientele LOL
I was actually thinking about that because I have all this coffee now and I donāt know what to do with it all. I was thinking giving it to people but then had that thought that they might not like it so light
Like my mom drinks Starbucks pike place black
I do have some that ended up too roasty for me that I may give her
That is part of the business plan.
"sell mistakes"
The real reason Sey quality dropped off is they started hoarding the best roasts for themselves.
Plan is:
One coffee offered two ways:
-Ultra light filter roast
-Light filter or espresso option
Something sourced specially for dark roast that will be only offered one way. This will be more when I need coffees for lattes
No mediums. I donāt really drink medium
they're in my freezer (I jest)
milk-bev flights - macchiato, cortado, flat white
I tried to do a medium the other day and I set off the smoke detector
I poured coffee at a private event yesterday. The crowd was very high net worth and mostly 65+. It was very interesting.
So many were kind, open minded, and enjoyed the coffees. I used the same ones we cupped for pour over. Also, I added the red honey Honduras for a batch self serve option.
I had a few that were no way we only drink dark roast. So I said well⦠the batch option is slighter darker⦠they loved it. It was at the end of light roast š
If you have any Alo or Layo roasts left pull it out. Let them rest a little and anything above 8% should be banging. Iām hitting them pretty hard. Maybe 4.0-4.3 on a ZP6
Thatās weird. I would do the opposite. I can adjust for my mistakes in brewing
Yeah you need to work the bar in a stress test to decide final placement. Ideally record the workflow to see the mistakes of too many steps or bottle necks
Alsoā I booked my flights for SCA!!
Watched our CEO deal with her broken kurig doing pour over a mug after opening up the Starbucks pod. Just desperately seeking caffeine there.
I was attempting a joke
Lol oh!
I know that burned holding that little pod
Actually it was a tea bag? She emptied out ground Starbucks. I donāt know how this machine works but til we have hot water dispenser from the tap
I hated what she was doing but when I showed her my coffee table she only cared about how much time it took
Iāll look. The machine is down because there is a hose from the wall that needs to be replaced. Iām impressed but the thought and consideration put into this coal machine
Flavia creation 300 packet system
Italiano vibes
Haha I had a few of those yesterday like you do this for your morning cup?? Then they tried it and were like oh thatās quite nice..
You got a Strada X?
S
YES. 3x if possible
Oh ok!
Boy I hope this is wrong
I think Iām going to cancel the Alpharetta birthday party for the second weekend in a row. Probably for good now
Cancelled my latte art class for tomorrow. Donāt want to risk the weather issues
Where was this??
Supposed to be*
Yup!
do you happen to know why all those classes are on weekend or 5 pm on a week day
Nope. Probably when heās not roasting I guess
ahh i see
I kinda want to do a roasting class there
Same. I know 0 about how roasting works lol
Maybe one day I could host a get together and show you guys some stuff
I was going to say we need to get another meet up on the calendar! Should we try to shoot for one in Feb?
Iām down
Down
I'm down
Sounds good to me. I am out of town the weekend of Valentines and then doing a pop up hopefully in Athens on the 28th
But of course whatever you guys decide I will try to make
Also I just watched a video of people roasting coffee in Jordan. This came about from learning some Arab countries roast even lighter than ultra light. They donāt even hit first crack š¤Æ
I'm interested in a meet up where @desert dawn isn't having to work!
Not enough snow to stick yet in the city. Seems like itās worse north and east.
I have seen single-digit flurries in East Lake so far. Just loud wind gusts.
We have flurries up here but thatās all. Itās a full on blizzard in Cumming apparently
Okay, the flurries have finally arrived.
We had light snow in the morning. Again now and this looks like much more
Weāve got some that stuck now
It aināt much but bout to see if we can make a tiny snow man lol
Just made a long soup to get ready
My daughter made a tiny 6 inch tall snowman
In Alpharetta⦠roads are still drivable but the snow is sticking all around
Glad to see some snow this year
Days like today call for some chili
Made a big old pot earlier. Chili for lunch and chili for dinner. Each with a baked tater, cheese, and green onions.
Gonna be me with the wife later.
Hydrangea getachew better today 4 weeks off roast
For the next meet up, whenās a good time for everyone? We thinking week day or weekend?
I would think weekend??? Saturdays are better than Sundays for me personally
Weekend fosho
Weekend for me
My mornings are all full of kids birthday parties except for the 15th. Afternoons are pretty open
I can host on the 21st
How early are you available?
I live in Doraville right by 285.
Iāve got the kids all day on the 21st unfortunately
Gifted my wife a full spa day as a Christmas present
Donāt let me hold yall back if that works for everyone though
What spa?
Woodhouse
bring the kiddos
Nope, Iāll drink any coffee really but I prefer light
Since there seems to be a slight grey area when it comes to where the line is drawn, I would say I like light and true craft medium/dark. Monarch from Onyx is my yardstick for dark craft coffee.
Also, on that note, what do you all generally think of Portrait coffee?
(Buying their whole bean stuff)
I am actually nearing the bottom of my freezer stash and need something to fill in until my next subscription delivery is ready...
I was thinking about trying Portait again.
the cups and shirt are cool.
even their lightest is medium
I really like my portrait cup though.
Ooo
my first amazing shot was with portrait was their Colombia El Zacatin Tabi natural but they lean so dark I just don't buy portrait anymore
Sometimes that dark shot hits so gooooood though!
My wife loves dark roast. And honestly, itās not that bad even though itās from Costco.
I saw that. I will say I did have a good dark roast from them last year. It had notes of figs and strawberries which was surprising to me in dark
There is an Eth lighter medium you can get from Costco online that I liked some time ago. It was only online and cheap like $10/lb
I prefer ultra light, but try to keep my palate open to everything
It usually came 2 weeks off roast
I probably still have some in the freezer. Maybe I should sneak it into a cupping to see what people say
I got here because of traditional Italian espresso so I am definitely open to anything. I have fallen in love with light roasts though
My stepmoms feedback from some of my beans
No acid
My wife usually wants low acidity if she is going to make a regular coffee with milk
Mines very acid š
She hated it when the milk curdles.
I'm going to order a K ultra on the 4th since they are having a 5% off sale, did anyone want me to bring something back from 1zpresso or femobook (not sure if femobook will have sale)
diamond A not part of the sale, not gonna recommend that chonker
I want an A2 but I absolutely donāt need š
@jaunty ice remind me - where will you be again??
Taipei. Going to order some grinders in advance so I donāt have to deal with lunar new years closures and hopefully take advantage of sales
1z or femo. You save some money on the grinder without a sale but obviously canāt return internationally
About $70. Iām buying two already I can get another. Not sure if they will be on sale but buying Femobook next week otherwise
Woah
I mean at $70 I pretty much have to get one right?
Thatās just savvy shopping
Thatās my thinking
No problem. Will figure something out once I get back. Iām in buckhead so not too far from 400
Can Venmo or whatever
How much is the A4z?
$411. I think thatās close to the used price?
Ok, put me down for both A4Z and A2 if you have space
Venmo Zelle cash whatever let me know
A4Z crew grows!!! Great decision @desert dawn
I just canāt get over the size of that A4Z. I need one š¤£
I mean come on
Yeah itās insane haha
And selfishly I would love for some Lume recipes with the A4Z
I just got the Q air or else Iād ask for the A2 ššš
The a2 is just a gamble for⦠who knows what
Kinda wish I knew about the A2 before getting the Q air but the Q air has still been quite good
No get the pietro to a2 adapter people are working on
Prototype right now but we may crowdsource metal version #1317535416659869919 message
The pietro mod makes me want an a2 haha
Easier said than done
It will need some kind of catch cup and something to make it lean diagonal so you donāt have to hold it
I could just hold it over my v60
The fused visions one I think might have a catch cup but their stuff is so insanely expensive for 3D prints
Pretty crazy
I woke up to incredible drama on Monday in that thread. I think I donāt really want to work with fused visions. I just purchased the burrs but uncertain if it will be fulfilled.
Espresso outlet has a really good deal starting today (%20 off) though burrs still way expensive $134 after tax and they told me they donāt actually have them in stock
that peach Finca El Paraiso from Hydragea is delish
gonna have to bring to the meetup
I purchased the K ultra from 1z today, will try to deliver directly, should give me an idea if the femobook order will run into trouble.
so fused visions tried to sockpuppet as /u/beanlogic yesterday
Oh no way
#1317535416659869919 message
check out cafe regulars chat at the moment
drama before FV showed up: #1317535416659869919 message
Going to just take a moment and point out that this is happening because #1 pietro M modal burrs are apparently that good and #2 Pietro experience is apparently that bad
I love a little tea
Do they have a Hario store in Taipei? I have been curious about the Hario Alpha. Donāt think itās possible to get in the states though
I probably would get it from muzhan. I donāt see it listed in anything but tritan for just over $40 https://www.muzhan-coffee.com/products/2024111301
They had a year of the snake model but maybe replacing it with a horse? Anyways I think I wouldnāt recommend if itās anything like my ct62, decreased extraction afaik and not many recipes
Oh interesting they have an alpha switch too
Yeah Iāve seen a few folks who really enjoy it but certainly see your point about not being recipes out there since not many folks have it (at least in the states)
Went to Valor yesterday to buy a bag of beans to tide me over until my next subscription comes in. Got their Freethrow house espresso stuff. It isn't bad, but not quite what I am looking for. I might need to dial in a bit better though. It was on the lighter side of medium though.
Their only bean I truly like for esprssso is turbo diesel
What a name
So far I had their Sebastian Ramirez and a Kenyan Gachathani
I think Turbo Diesel should have a some robusta in it to turn up the caffeine
Thankfully Coffee is doing a tasting at Meadowlark in Gainsville on Saturday. Will most likely head up there for it if anyone is interested and ends up joining!
Alright I was correct about the lunar new year sale for femobook, starts this weekend.
$380 for A4z, $62 for A2, hopefully I can buy 4 and get that discount for all 4
it turns out there is a limit I can't buy more than four A2s
Oh man thatās awesome. Know what time?
I'm going to the 11:30 am!
4 seemed to be the limit. Grabbing them Saturday afternoon when the sale starts. One A2 for Wiggles, A2 and an A4z for Zo Shah, I think that's all I have. @cedar olive let me know if you still want the alpha, I anticipate I'll come across one or can order while I'm there
Looking forward to everyone struggling to explain the name to normies
Damn now I really will be the only one without an A4Z!
FIL gets some credit for having to pick up 8 coffee grinders from the doorman and cart them up to his apartment, at least I plan to leave one with him. Changing plans from bringing a used lagom mini to using an A5.
Don't worry, I am with you too.
We should send him a gift basket haha
Let me think on it - I may take you up or I may get a baby O1 from Orea lol
But youāre incredibly kind to offer @jaunty ice
the moment youāve been waiting for is here! āļø
weāre excited to launch our pre-sale of @recuerdos.atl x @charlottesmithstudios mugs starting TOMORROW at 10AM!
the process of designing this mug for our cafe was very special. ever since the ideation of a cafe came about, we knew we wanted to collaborate with Charlotte to make some custom...
377
The baby O1 is pretty cool but you do lose out on acidity
Oh interesting - how do you brew with it
I do the shoey QC so maybe thatās wrong
Iāve asked Carl like 3 times how he brews with it and he ignores me every time

I dropped and broke my favorite ceramic Icosa cup and now I'm second guessing all my mug purchases
I want another one, but I bought it on Kickstarter and now they are $50ea which is highway robbery imo
Dang, Iāll pour one out in for the homie in the morning
you wanna buy the smoke one(s) from me, I might be amenable tbh
How much and how many? š
Email them and see if they'll discount OG supporter.
They did say 50% off, but plus international shipping and potential tariffs. I just didnt want to risk it.
Illegal tariffs
Yeah I was bummed out they would only fulfill the Atlantis Blue out of the International warehouse. Not the local one.
I will ping them in case it changed
I think I fat thumbed a friend request to you. Sorry about that I donāt have anything meaningful to DM
Spending the day just feeling bummed for Florida manās mug
My coffee just doesn't taste the same... š„²
Iāve shattered four cups over the past 6 months all of them among my favorites. Only one difficult to replace.
I chipped a cup from Nhut Le's (Judomaster in Peacemaker) pottery like a week after I got it. It is now a planter.
That suuuuucks too... Dang
I really like double walled glass (I think going back to my Scotch days @sharp jasper). I broke my favorite one on like day 3 of orb ownership trying to make an ORBover and spilled nearly boiling hot water burning myself embarrassingly.
When people say I'm obsessed with finding a glasses that fit the orb, it's mostly because of that incident
I'm also a bit obsessed with whiskey and beer glasses. š So I get it
you really want the both of em I'll have to think about itāit's still typically my regular cuppa, but I rotate a lot (just might regret giving them both up...). I'm happy to give up 1 at least so you can replace your lost boi, even if it's not as blue and pretty š
I appreciate it! I think i might just end up getting a new blue boi. I'm Blue Da ba dee da ba di with out my blue cup.
I get it.
It was my initial choice, but then I got scared I wasn't going to like it, so played safe
c o w a r d i c e
Tbh, daily life is chaotic with the little ones. I grab whatever is in arms reach. Cup, spoon, carafe, bowl
You guys ready for this weekend
What is this weekend
Bad Bunny half time show at the Super Bowl
Thankfully cupping at Meadowlark š
My wife and I are doing the 2pm cupping at Meadowlark
Still trying to find coverage for Saturday morning but itās not looking good
@woven stone maybe I'll see you in between the 1130 and the 2!
Sweet! Iām excited for this cupping. Never had Thankfully before
Yeah I have a kids birthday tomorrow as well
Trying to find coverage lol
They group all the kids in our preschool by birthday so we just have been absolutely flooded with birthdays every single weekend
I just wanna drink coffeeās with the boys
yeah that's brtual lol
Fun times to look forward to
I got my wife some Hojicha hot chocolate from Dandelion. If I give her coffee Iāll be in trouble
Custom Lume roast!
I gotta give them some credit, I dialed in Freethrow a bit better and it's honestly pretty solid.
Excited for Meadowlark/Thankful
Have fun yall. Drink a little extra for me
So jealous
Omg. The SL9 was nuts
Dude YES
Alex mentioned you were trying to get him to bring it lol
So sad to miss it
I used to have a Thankfully sub
Very floral? The only SL9 that I know of is from India. Ratnagiri is famous for it
Seems like they have made a large come back
More blueberry muffin w some herbyness at the end. This was from Peru
Iāll need to snag that
Overall, a great cupping. Definitely have a lot of respect for Alex as a roaster.
He said he might be going to world of coffee as well.
Sounds like a very different profile now. Maybe Iāll revisit at some point.
Alexs roasting style has definitely evolved over the last year or so - so I think itās definitely worth trying, especially his extra light profile
So interestingā¦felt like it was really citrus forward when I tried it. Almost like an orange creamsicle. Someone else said Sunny D which I thought was appropriate as well
Peru?? Surprising. Didnāt know they had SL9 there
I didnāt even know SL9 was a a thing prior to today lol
At our cupping at Azara last month? I was positive one cup (I think Minmax Janson Gesha) was just wheatgrass and hay on bag smell, grinded dry aroma and taste! By second or third round of tasting the cup transformed into something beautiful and I was blown away. I had already wrote the cup off.
Ya not very common.
Well Iām glad you guys had fun. Iām especially happy to see someone in the South succeeding in the UL territory. Hope to join them and bring representation for Ga
I just need a spot to pour regularly the rest will be history in the making.
I sent out some samples to Rob yesterday to test for me. Iām starting to think some of my equipment is off
I think Difluid is reading a lot that my coffee is a lot āwetterā than it actually is
It evolved bag-to-bag for me.
Hoping that means there will be an aviary release this year?
Ooooh fingers crossed hadnāt thought about that
That would be cool
Purchase went through but it was more challenging than I anticipated
Just getting caught up. So now I need both an A4Z and an Alpha? Geez Iām falling behind.
lol - Iām debating the alpha, the metal O1 Orea just dropped, or just not getting anything and remaining contentā¦.pretty even odds on all lol
Next meetup gonna be great with all the grinders
Hey I saw some one of the Patriots players is from Lilburn, Ga
Mike Macdonald (Seahawks head coach) was in the same fraternity as me at UGA lol
Heās from Roswell
Also went to my rival high school lol
MHS!
Milton high school?
Indeed
I went to northwestern middle school lol
Just graduated from Cambridge high school which is kinda Miltonās rival these days
Also funny I used to live in Seattle
šµāš«
I heard some coaches went to Tucker high school too
I donāt actually follow sports, but happy to see Georgia people in it
lol same
Long lost best friend??
Cambridge opened when I was in HS
Yahh I was there for a month in 8th grade because I had just moved
Class of 2025
Oh so you were in high school in 2012
lol yes Iām old dang
Mike Macdonald coached my brother in law at Centennial
My wife and a ton of my friends went there. I went to Mount Pisgah tho
Down the street
Sam is a fraternity brother of @daring flare and me
KSU?
Kennesaw state university
ahhhh
I remember when southern poly students on Reddit were ego bruised about the merger but it definitely seems like itās been a great merger for both institutions
Yeah the school is actually quite good. Their curriculum is pretty progressive
But everything else on the polytechnic campus is just severely underfunded
I chose it over UGA and GT so I could graduate debt free
It was a difficult decision in the moment but I donāt regret it at all
I also went to a local state school for the same reason.
Same same (he says, lying through his teef)
SPSU and Ga Southern had hilarious frisbee teams. good dudes.
@desert dawn - had another brew of the Gititu (have one left) this morning and it was really nice. Very jooocy
Awesome!! I feel like it got a lot juicer as it aged
I also have been running it through the Gabi mostly, but did the shoey 4 pour today and I think that really turned up the juice
dialing in our machines and recipes with the Bellwood guys today
they're going to SCA too
Iām glad it could take the hard push
I'll let you know how a one-day-old-grind tastes tomorrow. I didn't get to finish making my own coffee this morning before I left š there's just a shaker full of bean dust sitting on my counter
it's gonna taste like my kitchen š
Have also been enjoying Thankfully's Kirura AB. Was bummed to miss the meadowlark eventāsome good lookin stuff there.
Kirura (EL profile) might be my favorite Kenyan from 2025
Anyone know anything about this
They have a festival at the end of April
insta page is awfully heavy on non-coffee things for a collective about coffee
But I am old and cynical
I agree. I was confused on if I should go visit or be pour there.. i canāt understand what the festival looks like
Also, Alexyis formerly from Radio is starting a roastery
my guess: it's new enough and not-well-established-enough that they don't know either and are hoping it shapes itself.
any idea where?
Didnāt see him mention that yet
Never had radio before he ledt. Would be really interested to see what he starts
Over there he was roasting medium to medium light. What I appreciate about his style was he adjusted it for each bean to maximize it the way he liked. Not a blanket auto profile approach
@desert dawn I just brewed a 10/30 gatugi after having let it reset 45 days, and then pulled it for another 20 after everyone said how much time they were giving it. Soo tasty
Maybe I should roast darker so the coffee is ready sooner
Impromptu meet up tomorrow!
Whoever is available going to hit up Common Coffee at 11am
In theory I could be there closer to 12
I canāt do 12
I have to pick up my son from school and thatās about 40 mins away
I'm in but I'm heading to lilburn after so not sure i can do much later than 11 either
Having talked to friends and family about my new roasting hobby, I was reminded that your average person just wants a medium roast lol
Kinda forgot about that after going down the EAF / Bana rabbit hole
Iād love to hear what happened
For a lot of people if they go out for coffee they want a fancy drink (from medium or darker ofc)
To me a fancy drink uses expensive equipment and precise calculations to turn their water into nearly the same water that comes out of my faucet
So I bought a gallon of this stuff. It will be ready for pick up on the 20th. I'm still down to host the 21st, I know its not a great date for everyone.
My wife is at another event from 930am-230am.
So I'm going to be making over consuming caffeine alone or with yall!
@woven stone I'm curious what milk yall will be using?
Mayfield I believe
Gonna use Odeko for a majority of delivery
When I was at Postern we used Rock house
Great milk
I am curious how long it will stay in a fridge. I'm guessing y'all had quick enough inventory turns that you never saw it go bad?
Yeah. Never longer than 2 days open.
smh not using cat milk...
I have barista friends that swear by this milk. They say it comes with a layer of cream on top
I have 3 cats. I should try this.
Question though... Any issues if they are boy cats?
Wellllllll if you come over on the 21st you can try it out!
Sweet. Is the 21st official
Yes i can host the 21st for sure
there's certainly a way to find out... šµ
Ok, I am available on the 21st. What time are you thinking
I can probably do something in March 21 or 22
REMINDER anyone available we are meeting at 11 at common coffee
10am? 1030am?
Iām available then too
