yeah he's a baller
I was wondering why I didn't see him over at academy in a while and this makes perfect sense LOL
Oh man I gotta try
You had one job
In general Perc is too roasty for me though a just finished a bag of a nice medium roast recommended by maxwheel.
Its weird
These beans are like the first beans I can describe as flavorless
Super acidic at a traditional ratio. Finally was able to balance it out with a lungo recipe and they are just trash
I tend to prefer naturals for espresso, washed light roast for filter
This was the darkest roast I've purchased recently, I think it's tasty in a milk drink: https://panthercoffee.com/products/east-coast-panther-coffee-blend
TASTING NOTES: Very Creamy, Soft Round Chocolate, Sweet Black Cherry Ripe Coffee Fruit, Sugarcane finishĀ Ā·Ā·Ā· Our fabled Cold Brew is a smooth and rich blend designed to excel as cold brew while delighting in other brew methods. This harmonious combination brings together the richness of Brazilian and Nicaraguan coāees,
looking at Perc's offerings right now, for more traditional espresso would try Legender https://perccoffee.com/products/brazil?variant=44056980554042
Yeah I was hoping to find that at Whole Foods but they were sold out. Probably a good sign
My next bag is probably going to be bulk crema bar or ravello
A nice reliable comfortable roast
Yeah I got to grab a medium bag to stash in the freezer. I was not prepared this holidays
I just use what I goof on that ends up medium š«
Wait. Ivan used to be at Academy? As like a barista?
A "guest beans" product seems like a genius way to use that up
I'm not sure if he is managing or not
I didnāt know he was there
He was there for a while behind bar, maybe as much as a "guest barista" as anything? not sure he was an employee, per se, especially given his socials never seemed like it
but he was the one, aside from Connan, who I would always love getting to talk to about whatever roaster they were featuring
Same. I'm not sure what his association is, but whenever I would go (usually I'm the afternoon) we would chat about whatever they had in and whatever cool beverages they were crafting
Got it. If I got a follow from Academy Coffee does that mean I have potential
it means Connan likes you š«
academy is legit one of the only good multiroasters in GA . that and Postcard
I guess I should meet Connan
great guy, super knowledgable abt coffee
Always great to meet more coffee people
Get back to gods country tomorrow
So stoked
Gonna fire up the roaster
Miss my drippers
Rob got a Fresh roast. So hopefully some more knowledge coming
No way
Yeah! I was on a call with him today and he said he got a fresh roast. I was confused for a moment and had to look it up. I only know them by the āSR540ā āSR800ā name
He said for now heās just going to run it stock
Hehehe
I overlooked the fact that delivery costs ruin the benefit of buying in bulk
Yall know a good place to get beans by the kilo around atl?
Heās had some people reach out asking for help so I guess he decided to get one
Heās looking to build learning communities around machines or machine types
Radio sells 2lb bags⦠I imagine they would sell you a 5 lb bag if you asked. All of this is from what I see in store not sure about online
he actually runs auxiliary right now
iād just go order a pour over and yap with him haha
Ya thatās my plan. Iām in Lawrenceville so itās 45 mins away no traffic makes it hard
lol tucker area aināt much better either
i was asking him why there & why a cafe like that in that location and he was just like the opportunity came so i took it š
itās really bad if u run into traffic tho itās really damn far
Agree, and weekdays I could make it happen but he closes at 2
So Iāll just have to plan it in advance
yeah he do close early on weekdays
if u can leave at 10 or sth thats no traffic tho š
Agree
That's so cool.
Hit me up. I'm dying to go (and I'm a PO in the morning kinda guy)
This about what about what y'all are paying for abaca filters? https://a.co/d/gKEWVjS
Not quite cost effective to buy from rogue ATM
I buy directly from cafec $11-12 +shipping. Sometimes they are not available and there was reports of fake ones on other sites
Yeah
If itās a Tuesday I might be able to make it too
But I thought you can drive in the mornings
Morning preferred but tuesdays are more flexible
First thing I do when I get home is brew a Gabi with the new XBloom filters. Did yall change your grind size?
My xblooms arenāt coming until the 19th though, planning to sue the same grind size Iām using for the Ratio 4
I went a few clicks more fine but nothing crazy
Sorry I was trying to say canāt drive in the mornings because of the ticket
What time did the coffee beans let you sleep last night/this morning and how many did you eat?
I was roasting, eating/tasting beans, drink tasting throughout the day. That consumption would have been fine. But adding that late night session was troublesome. I think I slept at 3 something
Iām the equivalent of hungover
It didn't get it until you revealed that freshly roasted beans are softer (never roasted or handled green before)
Yeah so right as the beans drop out of the roaster they are softer and mushy. In about a minute of cooling in the fan powered cooling tray they go hard.
I eat them when they are cool and hard. It can give you an idea of roast level flavor etc. But friend was saying to do it hot cause it gives an indicator of brewed taste⦠Iām still not certain causes itās all kinda a blur now but Iāll keep trying
I had to wake up cup everything and report my findings to Rob. I was just want to go back to sleep or get an IV
There is a Florida coffee meet up 1/17 I keep thinking about going
Sorry meant to give y'all a first sneak peek at this but @jaunty ice tagged me in cat coffee sellers thread
Huh first brew with the xblooms went slower than with the kalitas. Weird
sorry
Wot
Woaaahh what is this
It's shame and defeat at the moment lol
I've been wanting to see if I could make the orb an improved no-byoass brewer than using it with just the pump off
First trying to solve for more agitation but I have to dial in getting size
*grind
I did a brew at 600mu and it took about 12 minutes to drip through. It was pretty decent hi it but awful as it cooledš
What was bad about it cooled curious
What's funny is I'll be in Orlando on that date and I thought about going too
Speaking of - when is our next ATL coffee meet up?
Sounds like it might be Tuesday morning lol
If I wasnāt setting up coffee carts that morning Iād be in
Aux is such a great spot. Can nerd out with Connan
I think I can be down
I'm checking to see if my wife is cool with another hosting.
I missed something
My calendar for Tuesday morning is open though
Are we talking about auxiliary?
I am 50/50 on Tuesday. Davy from Now and Then is swinging by Atlanta and we were supposed to meet up. Depending on the time I may invite him
I think itās worth it. For me I would probably have to get a hotel which complicates things
Really just complicates things with the kids
Will you be trying to sell coffee?
Also any of you planning on going to world of coffee/SCA in April? Itās in San Diego
No just make friends/hang
Full transparency, this would be a meet-up outside of the potential Tuesday/Auxiliary meet up.
I want to try to slowly attend ones around the country to make friends in coffee and visit other roasters
It sucks because I'll be 15 minutes away from the meet up, but I'm tied up with other engagements. Not to mention the only gear I could really bring is PO or my DE1. And my trip is 6 days. I'd feel nervous leaving my DE1 in a hotel or my car.
I want to, but other life events are getting in the way. I'm hoping next year
I kept me gear in the hotel and was ok but I was in the hotel a lot and refused house keeping just called for towels or whatever
Sounds like you could use a picopresso or a oxo rapid brewer
Much easier to travel with š
Those ikape ones look slick too
Looks like weāre getting another cafe in Roswell. With this one thereās going to be like 6 all in walking distance of each other
Only one doing PO š
I'm getting close
I kinda hope Oxo comes out with a glass or newer version of their rapid brewer. The craft instant just isn't quite doing it for me.
Iād rather plastic for traveling personally. Less chance of breaking in transit
Glass would be cool for home though
Wonder if youād have to preheat a metal / glass version
If you aren't taking your glass brewer in a pelican case for all travel, can you really call yourself a craft coffee enthusiast?
But I get it. And I know Oxo is focused on food safe materials.
I might bite and get one eventually
I mostly fly when I travel so an extra suitcase is a no go for me. I try not to check if I can help it
That makes sense. I'm mostly driving but a few trips a year flying.
Hit up auxiliary
Salma Bermudez washed/ferment gesha from hydrangea. Brewer spent some time explaining the contraption which was fun.
He said someone from Tampa visited and that they also heard about auxiliary from discord š
That looks like a glass V60. Do you know if they warmed it or anything?
I use a glass V60 at work and have access to the company Bunn coffee machine, which has a hot water spigot I use to flush my filter/warm up my brewer. Im a novice when it comes to PO from craft places (never ordered it, full transparency) so I'm curious to see how the professionals do it.
But preheating the V60 seems to make a more cohesive cup. Couldn't tell if thats my imagination or maybe real.
Pre rinse warning only
He wasnāt too busy so I wasnāt there long enough to see it changed out. That being said bet so, the ball had frost on it when he started.
It tasted really good. I think I donāt enjoy yeast fermented or funk as much anymore but there werenāt any washed options.
Belux I guess?
Iām happy to see Roswell doing so well. Wish I could take the train up there.
Right?
Was that the Thanksgiving guy?
Pre-kono, I used a switch mostly to just hold hot water for pre-heating
I missed the ball trend. What's it's supposed to do?
It helps prevent aromatics from evaporating by cooling the brew almost immediately.
It doesn't cool the finished beverage a ton, but it is noticeable.
Yeah he actually used a cooled carafe before transferring to my carafe for drinking to cool it further (wouldnāt have done this step if I was taking it to go and gave me the option)
Must be
More and more are doing highly processed coffees because its different and enjoyable for a person who has never tasted anything but burnt black
Yep, I would say Glitch in Japan made it famous. @gaunt gulch you can add one to the orb-over now
Lol yall
Yeah I figured thatās what he was aiming for. It was the same in Sacramento (Scorpio) too, no washed pourover.
Impressed Waymo can navigate the Sufiās kitchen parking lot
@desert dawn Proto lume gesha? Iām ready to pay
Iāve got a Peru Gesha from a local Atlanta importer. Also, Guat - El Socorro COE #3 Gesha
Alright. Holding all further coffee purchases š«”
So far I will probably not release the Gesha this month. Iāve been working on these Honduran coffees for this event at the end of the month. So depending on how much I have I may release some
I really want some of that honey process haha
Need to see what itās like in good hands
This is the honey process
I am debating add pictures of beans to the website
That looks liiiiighghhhhhttt
I am using a light to take the photo. Maybe a little darker in real life?
For context, the Alma honey process was one of my favorites when I was enjoying a little more roast in my coffees (theyāre like a medium). When Zo told me he was getting the honey process green I was so excited to see what these could be when lightly roasted
I think as a medium itās still a delicious coffee. Coming into light it opens up more
Color reader is saying 70 whole bean agtron. 72 is considered UL, higher is lighter. However this is red honey process which makes the green already darker so I donāt know
Cultivar and processing method change the color
For example Gatugi was darker whole bean color. Like 65-66 wb agtron but SL34 is naturally darker looking.
I removed the white background. Itās hard to relay color in photos
Here this is next to a window using only the natural light
Also, I discovered. The Ode Gen 2 stock is not working for me
Iām going to run one last test with the Aiden letās see
So I think the ode gen 2 with the og2 burrs is not good
I used the burrs in my df64 for a bit and it became worse (more harsh) as it cooled
Which is something that others have commented on in reviews
Dialing in is harder since the jumps are so big and I guess I like this coffee with higher clarity
I bet Femobook A2 is better
I want one
Iām also doing big 1-1.5L batches which I never do⦠but first test on the EG1 and itās immediately better. I think itās just hard to get enough extraction with the Ode in my scenario without bringing papery and muddy flavors
Also me right now. Hot mess. Need to clean up after this last test
I stuck the switch in the Aiden to see what would happen
I never tried MP or pietro like burrs but went through most 64mm options and didnāt care for any
Umv1 had no body at all
MP is like a scalpel. Razor separation of flavors. Very narrow dial in range. Almost 0 blendiness
Pietro Pro and 80mm ULF have high clarity but add a touch of blendiness.
Arguably more forgiving. But again narrow dial in range
ZP6 more blendiness
I was that guy at Auxillary today. He was explaining so much of what he was doing I excitedly asked him what burr heās using and he was like uhh itās a āMahlkƶnigā āflat burrā
I thought itās the owner but not sure. Younger, beard, tall?
I should have asked for water
I believe to the gentleman on the left is the owner
lol the reel you sent is Moonwake
Gosh it was soo busy!
Wait was the almost 100ppm ??
Tidy and now waiting for my last test cup⦠fingers crossed š¤
Thatās like 60/20 or so
Because it also measures bicarbonate and other molecules
Yo just a heads up, this link gives your full name. Insta likes to dox people for some reason
Wait. What kinda ppm are you all running
My ppm is like 50
Do i need to re think this
60/20 myself
Oops
I must not know what Iām doing so I just clicked and watched
It gives me a pop up saying who shared it and asks me to follow
This is interesting. If a lot of you are running very different water the cups would be so different.
True
I have minerals but I bought lotus drops to travel with and I just stated using those because itās much more convenient for me
Can you test the ppm?
How does one do that again
I make my ā60/20ish with filtered tap
Do you have the tds meter
Nope
Can you explain how you do it roughly
Iāll try to calculate. Are you using destilled
Yep
Tap with two drops of CaCL2 from lotus to 600mL of filtered tap ina glass soda stream
My Aiden test went sideways. Over extracted. Still tastes plenty good but flavors are not open.
I do distilled and the custom recipes calculator on the lotus site
Ok. Our taps could be different cause I am in Gwinnett. Roughly what ppm does that land you at
I think I still have some lotus drops
I stopped using tap after learning how much it fluctuates
Iāll test the tds right now. Might be interesting since itās raining. Guessing it will still be like 60
I bought a graduated cylinder to try to get more precision with my cheap aquarium testers
I need to dial in another batch but Iām about at that point that I donāt want to look at coffee
Whoah itās way different
That explains why my adjusted water was coming it at 106
Room temp. Thatās not too different imho
Went from 96 to 101
Letās check the KH
Iām going to have to revisit water.
5 drops
Alright that's the exact same as it was in November at a lower TDS so at least my bicarbonate is the same
I think Iāve shared before but Iāve been using APAX and itās simplified things from a water standpoint
Iām running full custom mix minerals not bc I have anything against the other stuff but for an event I have to be able to make a lot of gallons so using lotus, apax, tww can get expensive and annoying
50ppm vs 80ppm lets see
Makes sense to me.
Son of a b. the 80 is better today.
Ah ok
Like 46-47
Iāve been just adding 2 drops of co2 to filtered tap. The ranges that would give me should be solid.
Whether itās a low or high tds day. Bicarbonate donāt seem to be impacted much.
Tap is 50 atm
Iām going to have check 80 now against recipes and other coffees
I hit my limit a long time ago though so no more today
The funny thing is i last did this test probably on Gatugi and liked 50ppm
I have not yet experimented with waters, I just use tap
Does it make that much of a difference?
Atlanta filtered tap is pretty good, low tds and low bicarbonate (like 20-30)
I think @nova wadi found regional estimated water KH and GH somewhere
But yes the water makes a difference, try using mineral water (typically hard water/high TDS) it's hard to make a decent cup
I see
my most painful experiences with water have been brewing on vacation.
Water can really transform a cup to good or bad. Thatās why I did the test right away
In my case, one cup seemed roasty muted. The other cup was vibrant, floral almost perfumed, cleaner
When I changed from tap to thirdwave water, it was totally a noticeable difference
Also, changing grinders from the fellow ode2 to the Zerno helped as well
What burrs do you have on the z1
Interesting - Iāve just been using bottled Publix spring water lol
That may be whatās best for the coffee you like - you never know
My ravello arrived 4 days early.
My initial dial-in was 18:40 without changing grind size from my previous bean. Had a lot of body, but tasted boring. A mouthful of flavorless goop
I went two steps finer on the BBE grinder and got 18:30. And wow itās good. Really good. Great in a cortado and is capable of punching through syrups. My mom enjoys it without syrup which is always a good sign
Yeh. Maybe Iāll try experimenting with better water down the line
Or I could just buy a brita lol
Happy to donate a 3rd wave water light roast or espresso pack and you can get a distilled gallon and try it
If this is going in an espresso machine those have different water requirements. Generally water without calcium to avoid build up of scale
First gabi
Ugh maybe shouldnāt have prerinsed the Xbloom
Oh itās really good. I used @nova wadi recipe for 12.5g
We love the Gabi in ATL
@cedar olive is who told me the recipe
I use either the H&S Gabi Standard (10g) or H&S Gabi Gentle (12g) recipe with that exact decaf or the S&W decaf all the time.
Which is an upscale of the H&S one I believe
Deep dive on the brew recipe I use for literally everything
TLDW recipe:
10g dose, 180g water (1-18 ratio)
"fine grind" 500-800 micron particle size peak
60/20 water at 197F
30g bloom for 1min
150g on top of Gabi to finish
~3m30s total brew time
TIMESTAMPS
00:00 Intro
00:36 What is the Gabi
01:47 It's an evaluation tool
02:57 On water
04:26 On...
He has another one for Nattys
Made a couple Gabi cups with H&S Buncho and xbloom filters today. Took everything I had not to gulp it down immediately. So tasty. SWEET.
He basically says to use it for any non UL coffee too haha
"All of the coffee behind me on the shelf"
*sees Hydrangea, Sey, Aviary
The recipe we use here at H&S for coffee that's a bit darker roasted, more soluble, or that we simply want to enjoy and not think so much about.
TLDW recipe:
12g dose, 200g water (1-16.7 ratio)
"coarser" 600-900 micron particle size peak
60/20 water at 197F
30g bloom for 1min
170g on top of Gabi to finish
~3m30s total brew time
Shoutout to Mic...
Oh interesting. Iāve actually never done the gentle
Basically a lower EY recipe.
I need to get better at pourover with naturals, will give it a shot at some point (tomorrow?)
I wonder if it's better for decaf
Seems like the same that you described?
I coarsened up. Canāt use direct comparison because why would I have the same beans twice in a row?
Oh really? Iāve never actually watched the gentle video so thatās funny
Or maybe Iām confused
Gabi Gentle:
The recipe we use here at H&S for coffee that's a bit darker roasted, more soluble, or that we simply want to enjoy and not think so much about.
TLDW recipe:
12g dose, 200g water (1-16.7 ratio)
"coarser" 600-900 micron particle size peak
60/20 water at 197F
30g bloom for 1min
170g on top of Gabi to finish
~3m30s total brew time
Yeah for 12.5 I just do 50g bloom for 1 min. At 40s I put on the top and then 150g yeet
Gabi the goat
Dang yall have me wanting to try TWW packets for my PO at work now.
I'm trying to avoid buying mineral drops due to price and I'm afraid I'll revert back to TWW.
I have a distiller at home and the office has a RO machine that has a mineral adder post filter. Now I'm wondering if thats impacting my coffee significantly...
The coffee rabbit hole has no bottom!

Ahh Iāve been doing 1:16
My b, thought we were doing the same thing
Yeah Standard is 1:18 and Gentle is 1:16.7
Would be curious to hear your thoughts on 1:18 ratio @nova wadi
Weāll check it out in the morning
Roadie
Canāt decide if I want PO decaf or soup decaf
I had to go to Azara so I had regular
Gabi good
Why
Whatās wrong are you trying not to get one?
For someone like me who hasnāt been making good filter cups for very long Gabi is really helpful. It takes me mostly out of the equation and provides an excellent baseline for comparison.
Gabi did a pretty good job with this. I think I would have liked this more back when I was using zp6 instead of A4z. Really hard for me to enjoy naturals on filter now.
Cooled itās tasting much better
I kind of want to try this
Yes, trying not to.
Gabi outperformed the Ratio 4. I think it has temperature and bed depth working for it.
I love a 1:18 po. Curious how this would be
Did you try the Gabi gentle recipe from h&S for the natural??
I was basically already gabi gentle so I mostly did the same recipe and didnāt bother coarsening.
Has three brews with an excellent test roast gesha which I think is a touch roastier than I prefer. Just did it over the ct62 and the black tea roasty notes are gone and itās sweet and juicy now. Overall I preferred the complexity with the flat bottom gabi. I think Iām going to try the ct62 with the natural next.
Gabi is a brain off good cup of coffee
And it travels well tbh
I plan to use it as a travel brewer
Iām excited to see the Gabi at a meet up
This is how I feel about the ORB @desert dawn
Oh I didnāt know you didnāt have an Orb
Almost forgot I have 3 boxes of aviary in the basement
Today I had someone try Gatugi again from a 10/30 roast. They had it at 30 days and were not totally happy - saying now it opened up beautifully. Looks like I might just be pushing too light and need to recommend really long waits or go brown š
I should have waited
I messed up saying itās ready
It opened up from when I was tasting it. I just didnāt realize it was going to open up way more
Iām waiting for Gititu this time
Need to plan a meet up so we can help you delete these š
Yeah I save the last of mine for a while out and it was fantastic. Message is in here somewhere
Well at least I achieved shelf stable coffee
Didnāt brew a single cup today. Canāt remember the last time I did that
You OK @nova wadi ?
Surprising. No issues like headache moody etc? Kids have you busy?
Maybe it's worse than all of those possibilities... Maybe he's found tea. RIP (Welcome to Nirvana)
I had a fever and slept most of the day
I would say thats a pretty good tell on if you're sick.
If you avoid caffeine
My wife said thatās how she knew I was really sick lol
Used a combo flu and covid home swab for the first time last month
Hope you feel better soon
That sucks. Viruses seem to be bad right now
Every year my hospital friends āthis year itās worseā when does that stop š¤·āāļø
Speaking of communicable diseases, are we actually trying to meet up tomorrow at auxiliary?
I havenāt planned to yet, sounded like @desert dawn was 50/50
Then if it's cool, let's shoot for a future Tuesday. I have a meeting that I was trying to plan around
Sounds good š«”
Perfect
I started my current job when my 10yo was 6 months old and for the next year or two I was constantly sick it was a joke in the office. He and my daughter were sick 1-2x per month in daycare and I would catch about a third to half of her illnesses,
Yeah thatās how I got hand foot mouth as an adult
There was a stretch when I was sick for what felt like 2-3 months lol
I just got back from Boston doing company wide meetings for a week and probably caught something traveling
Itās always either from the kids or from travel
So I think I prefer 1:16 to 1:18
On the Gabi
But thatās just me
Then again everything is tasting kind of bad to me rn. Maybe due to sickness
This is my entire existence presently.
Somehow dodged getting sick with daycare starting back up, so I'm sure we're due a big bug imminently š±
Would you all be open to going to Azara tomorrow?
@jaunty ice @gaunt gulch @mild tiger @nova wadi @sharp jasper also anyone else who may have mentioned being available tomorrow
What time?
Morning- maybe 9 or 10? Basically avoid traffic and their rush
I may be able to host a cupping š¤
Azara, itās on the belt line next to New realm brewery and the Illuminarium.
Auxiliary is closed tomorrow
If it does not work for the majority we could plan it another day
I booked an earlier vet appointment for my dog. So I'm pretty free after 9, but might have to leave around noon for a work event.
I would probably need to leave by 1130-1145 the latest to grab my son from school
So 10 would be fine. I asked to get permission to use the rooftop to host a cupping
Are you asking for another Tuesday for Azara? And then another week for wed- sun for Auxiliary?
I donāt mind tomorrow. The cupping will take about 30-45 mins or of course we just hang there no cupping
Oh I missed that ctl7g is available. I could do 10am tomorrow at Ponce
Sweet! Letās do 10am at Azara
550 Somerset Terrace NE, Atlanta, Georgia
Azara confirmed we are welcome. The rooftop is tbd
If you all want to bring a friend no problem
Iām inviting my wife but sheāll probably say no, she just worked this past weekend
Brewing on Gabi, too scared to try 1:18, worried at that level of clarity Iāll taste the notes of conceit
Drinkable š. Definitely not UL, will try as espresso later this week
This has nothing to do with Scott, but I donāt think everything has to be UL. This strong push for only UL or OTL causes a lot of people to drink hay, grass, and peanuts.
I am genuinely very impressed when I go somewhere like a convention or whatever that should have poorly brewed coffee and instead I get a smooth balanced cup
I say this as I drink my $100+/kg Gesha
Feels dumb. But itās the truth
I agree with you. I've been fortunate to learn through pain. Like trying to make a cap with jimmy beans just over a year ago or even for filter I prefer a bit roasty but delicious >> bread
Dang thatās like a 50 min drive for me š«£
Not sure I can get away with that
Essentially taking off the whole morning
Should I bring some beans to share tomorrow? Also wanted to give @desert dawn some of my yemen beans that I just can't get anything but hay out of them
Personal hotspot and work
You donāt have to
Wow - what was the roast date on them
Like early November š
Itās interesting my brother seems to like these Beans, I know he grinds finer than I do for filter
Oh so long enough to have opened up. Thatās worth cupping. Might not be anything there or just under roasted
My suspicion is a roast issue
Yemen stuff isnāt cheap so that sucks
For starters for ME to test grind just a little to test. Dry aroma should be strong immediately after roasting no rest time.
The smell might change and open up but it doesnāt go from mild or little aroma to strong. Think of when your grinding coffee and before even grabbing it your nose fills up with aroma
I'm down! I'll have to step aside for a meeting at 11am, but i can do it from my car
I may have missed it, but what time tomorrow? My company has an office at Ponce that Iām planning on working from tomorrow!
10
I may come by around 1030! But Iām planning on stopping by!
Ah shoot - just saw that I had a meeting put on my calendar at 1030 š¤¦š¼āāļø
Would you be available at all?
If it were earlier or later, maybe? Have to be in meetings from 10-11:15 am
You in the corporate world too?
So how does cupping work if I was sick a day ago lol
Should I sit that out?
Donāt want to get anyone sick

Thats my vote.
Do i need to bring anything @desert dawn ?
I'm happy to pay my way too.
Would 9 or 930 be too early? Totally okay if so.
Probably still contagious š¤·š¼āāļø
We wonāt drink from spoons. We would use spoons to pour into our own cup and taste so no saliva transfer
930 may be the earliest for @gaunt gulch
He has an appointment at 8
Y'all get started! I hear over when I'm done with pup
Is everyone else good with earlier?
A) 9 am
B) 930 am
C) 10 am
I can rearrange around earlier
Should not need to bring anything. I will bring some Lume coffee and Azara will give us a couple of theirs to cup.
As far as pay I wonāt make any drinks to be respectful of their business just cupping. You guys are welcome to buy anything from them.
Should I bring a4z or would that not be useful.
I think I can make 9am actually. So that could work
I was planning to hand grind cause its stairs to go up and taking the EG1 would be a pain. They offered we could borrow their EK43 and take it up but I dont want to be responsible
Ok, letās shoot for 9am. I will let them know
Ok I checked and Azara prefers 945-10am arrival
They open at 9 so I get it
Think I should stay home?
Ah shoot - I probably wonāt be able to make it then. Super bummed I canāt be there - Iāll be so close! My office is a 5 ish min walk on the beltlone
Suddenly you like you are coming down with something and need to call in sick š¤
Kidding
I want to go but donāt want to make anyone uncomfortable. Totally get it with kids etc
Should we skip azara and head to the lab instead? https://youtu.be/TDkH3EbWTYc
The Coca Cola secret formula is one of the best kept secrets in recent history...and I hate secrets. So, naturally, I deciphered it with the help of mass spectrometry and created a chemically-identical replica!
The previous flavor concentrate giveaway has concluded, and the promoting segment in the video has been removed. All research samples ...
I wish! Definitely want to come if you end up doing this again
Should you Uber eats from azara and get a crew of 8 'delivery people'
This is a good idea
Well⦠if we pray hard enough it could become a permanent thing š¤š¤š¤
They read my mind about brewing only quakers #1194136644475945032 message
This was pretty funny. 8.5/10 brewing entertainment.
Thank you for not bringing your [risk of] cooties
I hope to one day make it to an event lol
I still got some bourbon with your name on it.... JS
Ha I was just watching that earlier
I hope I never make this mistake would hate to hear that feedback
Like mike, that's mega close to me, but y'boy got a new title and has to go beat up the c-suite tomorrow, so best I can do is stopping by on the way just to say hi or grab a bev š
Sounds like congrats are in order!!!
Azara is 550 Somerset Terrace NE, Atlanta, GA 30306 ?
Probably will be there closer to 10 just making sure
Just leaving late to start my day (early AM production deploys are fun!), so don't think I can pop in, sorry folk! I'll wave as I fly by on freedom pkwy
Have a great day
The entrance is on the beltline in the front of the building
You can let the barista know you are headed upstairs and they will direct you
@desert dawn - what time will you be at Azara until?
Heās still there at the moment
Thank you for the experience @desert dawn !
Thank you @desert dawn had a good time, got way more caffeinated than anticipated. Learned a lot. Hope you enjoyed the barley tea.
Interested in the filter paper Lance is using for filter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3c4DZJroIv8
Unironically, I use these machines daily. They are what I would consider my "daily drivers." Is it over-the-top? Yes. No question. But, coffee is my 9-5, my hobby (here), my passion.
While I focus on the gear, please do pay attention to the coffee I use- all high quality with lots of thought put into sourcing it. The main place you should put y...
Cafec T90. I've always used Abaca
@jaunty ice @gaunt gulch @sharp jasper it was a pleasure hanging out! I enjoyed sharing and hope you guys had something tasty.
For those that could not make it I hope to meet you soon!!
Special shoutout goes to @jaunty ice for using his medical skills to heal us with Barley tea
Look at the big bro EG1, lil bro Fembook !!!
I sent my wife the photo and she thought I bought some mods for the ZP6
Haha
Looks awesome! Hope to make the next one
Thanks everyone. Had a great time. Big thanks to @desert dawn and @jaunty ice for the tasty coffee, @sharp jasper for the gear library, and @nova wadi for not killing all of us with plague
Wow that looks really awesome
4 from me
-Lume Gatugi OTL
-Lume Layo Teraga Site 1 washed OTL
-Lume Alo washed
-Lume Jose Giraldo Gesha but 2 cups. One was 12/14 roast, one 12/24 roast to show how the coffee was opening up
@jaunty ice brought
-Minmax Lerida
-Minmax Aricha
-Hydrangea PB Los Capachos
-Hydrangea Carmen Gesha
-Hydrangea Sidra Finca La Indonesia
-Lady Schnauzer Yemen
Oh and Azara brought up a Colombian thermal shock from prevail
Damn whenās the next one? I got some aviary for us
Need to check the roast dates actually
I have some prints for you @nova wadi though I think there was one you asked for that I missed
Hydrangea Carmen gesha and Hydrangea PB Los Capachos
December 18
And Hydrangea Sidra Finca La Indonesia
There were 9 for cupping and then we added the Yemen, @desert dawn can you delete the barley roaster, I don't want to shade them, they post here
Works
I am caffeine crashing
@sharp jasper care to guess at the dumbassery I just did
upside down?
The bellows can go on top of the crema loop not the other way around
Also, you will accidentally turn it on come back and wonder where is your coffee⦠only to realize you never turned on the grinder
Ha I wish. I brought it in set it down on the counter, helped my kids with some barley-yujacha (no idea why I was thinking barley tea today), and then ground my coffee without ever putting the cremaloop on the grinder š¤¦āāļø
Oh I was positive you put it on the bellows which looks like it a has little bowl that would have caught all the coffee
Crema loop there for emotional support
I am still hopeful barely tea will open up. It just may not be anytime soon
I swear on the first sip I was like Ooo there it is then I was like wait⦠where did it go
I have this anti popcorn mod inside my bellows. I'm guessing the crema loop sorta negates the need for it?
Goes on top?
Crema loop until done then bellow?
That's what I was planning. This doesn't look like I'd want to do it like this
will open myself up to some potential pain in March
Looking forward to trying it at every quarterly Meetup for 2026
If the anti popcorn is like the one on the niche I would try leaving it on. The niche popcorn-ed the beans pretty high up
I checked the website on the DF and other angled grinders bellows than crema
On other grinders itās crema than bellow
Soooo I didn't buy this, but was invited to try this that a buddy was gifted by his boss who just came back from indonesia. I'm not sure how I should approach. You think you'd do a PO or cupping?
Looks dark
Yeah
At full turn open it jammed my niche
So assume very dense
The niche has a lot of Torque and runs slow so jamming on such a wide open settting is rare
Not into that process š
I feel very conflicted on it
I mean you got it now try it. Maybe itās tasty
I don't have an espresso machine! I guess I'll soup
I'm curious what you think of it.
I'm legit curious if it'll be noticeable difference
It was different when I had it. Not bad actually but this was probably in 2023 so palate has changed maybe
-Lume Layo Teraga Site 1 washed OTL
-Lume Alo washed
-Minmax Lerida
Sonuvabitch I knew I was gonna regret it.
How'd y'all like the Aricha? I took the last 30g of mine into work and almost ruined it with my weirdly-calibrated hand grinder before banging out a stellar soup
Would slow feeding affect grind size?
Went a tad bit finer but I'm not going to lie. I kind of hope. I don't love this because the auto shut off combination with my df64 gen1 kind of sucked. Had to restart it like five times lol
Crap it's real nice
Should decrease range of particle distribution. In my experience I have to grind finer to create the same pressure since there are less fines. Not that pressure is necessarily the goal.
Yeah i had to go significantly finer on my DF to attain the same pressure.
Did it bring more clarity??
It reduces the re-grinding of particles against each other is my understanding of it.
Man, these flights to San diego are pricey for SCA
anyone already booked for that yet?
I thought Aricha was great, but I love Eths. I think it was a really good year for them.
It was some stiff competition for the favorite cups!! There were no mediocre cups on table
For real. $500 for Delta or $210 on Frontier when I checked.
I have something already planned for Sunday, the 12th. So I think I will just try to hit New Orleans SCA/WOC next year for the full 3 days.
Perhaps next year is better since itāll be closer
Yeah I would be tempted to drive, but New Orleans is not a city I think a car is that beneficial.
I mean it I guess it depends on how close to the event I would stay.
Or how bad parking costs are.
Delta has no value prop.
Abandon the Blue Bandit of the skies folks.
Three transatlantic business class tickets with british airways cost same/less than comfort+ seats on Delta.
They decided skymiles were a joke and their partner cards were conferring too much value to consumers, so I will happily see them burn
But I'm not biased or anything....
I agree, I stopped being loyal. It is ultra frustrating how they command the ATL market for most direct flights.
But if I have a choice between Southwest and Delta for the same price, I still lean Delta.
Although I do still churn their Amex Reserve. Economy/Comfort+/First Class companion certificate usually pays for itself on one flight.
Platinum medallion member š¬
Going to San Diego for work in March and then again in May
I always transfer Chase/Venture X points to Flying Blue/Virgin Atlantic
I wish Capital One or Chase would open a dang lounge here...
Usually snag a transfer bonus, but did get two RT direct flights to Tokyo for 160k miles.
I need to get better at looking out for these transfer bonuses.
TPG or Frequent Miler post them monthly. Aero is a great site to use for travel.
I watch the CSR subreddit. But yeah, I need to start watching others.
I was looking at his hand grinder before I found your listing!
Direct SW lax-atl was my jam back in the day.
Oooh my wife has started traveling a bit for work and looking to get a different card for travel. Might have to get some recs from y'all
Chase Sapphire Reserve is my main spend card. They recently had a makeover that makes their benefits more like a coupon book to some, but I find the benefits to be awesome. I easily get the annual fee in value from things I already spend on.
I think your fav CC really depends on your spend. My setup:
Amex Gold - 4x grocery only card to earn Amex points
Amex Plat - travel only but I could live without it. my travel is not that heavy
Chase Sapphire Preferred - 3x dining only card to earn chase points.
Cap 1 Venture X - catch all 2x to earn Cap1 points
@desert dawn is the Churning god! Dang!
Chase Sapphire Reserve - For booking most travel (8x points for Chase Travel purchases, 4x with some when booking direct), Costco (1x but my only Visa card), and the purchases at places where perks offer significant savings.
Amex Delta Reserve - Just for Delta purchases and using perks.
Citi Double Cash - 2% on everything, no annual fee (everything else).
Hey I think thats a solid setup too.
It really depends on the person what they should have
I think my next one will be bilt as they are offering points on mortgages and I think might transfer to American Airlines
Wait! You can use it for mortgages????
I thought it was only for rent?
They were releasing it for Mortgages this year. I dont know if it has gone live yet
oh nm its live
damn but now you cannot transfer to AA
I see it!! I might end up with that too...
Yeah, Im going to think on it.
I really want to dump the Platinum. 1K fees - yes I get it back but still not that useful for me
I tried platinum a couple years ago but couldnāt really make it work and we never use the lounges
Have been using Amex bcp and the highest cb card I can find for many years now. Just had to make some adjustments this past summer because they finally needed my Priceline card
Do you not have to pay a card processing fee?
Hey, I know its a bit off topic, but what do yall think of Prodigal? They had a huge drop today. I was curious what yall think of their offerings. (Ive ordered from them a few times. I liked their stuff. I'm debating on giving them another try.)
Like is everyone else like me in that you just sometimes buy coffee from whomever, no main brand you have an allegiance to?
(This is how I am mostly, and it seems to track from what @desert dawn learned about how light coffee consumers are not typically aligned with a brand)
I believe there are some but have not looked at it in detail since mortgages were not included. The general idea I think used to be they mail out a check on your behalf and charge your CC that amount
A touch more developed than Bana UL. I am trying to move closer to light and away from ultralight for espresso so I decided to try prodigal again after a year of avoiding. Boulder blend was hyped by a user and I bought a couple. First gabi was decent, will make spro with it tomorrow. Also decided to try the milk blend again- a bit too dark for me but tasted okay
I'm hoping boulder blend can give me something that's consistently decent.
Thanks for the data! I think I'll probably give them a shot soon.
People say Prodigal is roasty on bana but that has never been my experience
I really enjoy everything Iāve gotten from them
add on a bag of boulder blend!
I wonder if they changed to the Roest P3000 and thatās made stuff lighter for them? They were on an IMF which people say it has too much airflow or something that causes problems with the roast tasting more brown?
I will! I can't recall if I had their coffee on my Flair 58 or after I got my DE1....
Would yall have any interest in an espresso focused tasting? I know the biggest issue is caffeine tolerance.
I could try to dial in 7g shots. š¤£š¤£
Speaking of Prodigal I have a Peruvian gesha I just burped today. Stoked to try that out tomorrow
Absolutely! I love trad spro I just like soup and PO more so thatās what I make
Iāve actually been wondering what a good espresso shot from an enthusiast might be like. Iāve only gotten it from coffee shops and in Europe so Iād def love to do that
I mean, I made my own on my Delonghi and picopresso but Iām not sure I ever got good at it
One thing that has been fun for me is tasting espresso on the same grinder, same dose, different shot techniques
Even same grind size!
Haha this! Itās such a good deal. I saw you say you didnāt like it though so I was sad lol
Oh no. I like it
Milk blend was a little too roasty as expected but it's okay too
Ohhh
I've only had one gabi of the boulder blend from Dec/15 and it was solid. A touch more developed then I usually drink but not in a bad way
Gotcha
Super smooth like a good blend should be
I might make a cap and also soup with it tomorrow
Would be so fun. Ever do turbos? Iāve seen them mentioned a million times but Iāve never had one
Yep! Turbo and turboturbo
Im so in
Niceee
Okay I'm doing a lot of travel the next few weeks but I'll try to line up a weekend in February
Some vendors at SCA Expo pass out l-theanine for coffee jitters
Hmm I've never heard of it.
I did an accidental turbo at Azara trying to dial in the Ek43. It was delicious. I told them they should just serve that cause itās 13 seconds vs 30
I had a Chinese coffee my BIL brought me that lemonade as a tasting note on the bag. I pulled it as a turbo by accident and it tasted like a gosh dang shot of lemonade coffee!! I dialed it for regular espresso and then went back to turbos. š
It was 100% better as a turbo.
That sounds good
Turbos sound right up my alley
I'm around 16-18s with most shots, and I even add milk
Basically a turbo
Turbo I think is 13-17s
usually 19-->50g depending on beans
Iām scared though cause if I like it too much Iām going to want a nice espresso machine again š«£
I convinced my little brother to make a Gaggiuino and he told me it's the best espresso machine he's ever owned
Economical Decent
I was literally about to pull the trigger on a gaggia to mod when Lance dropped his soup video
Then my whole coffee trajectory shifted
Damn you werenāt kidding thatās a hell of a drop
Must stay strong
You can do this @nova wadi
I haven't spent a penny on anything other than regular expenses this month. If I can avoid temptation (the weakest psyche known to mankind), so can you.
In totally unrelated news, I'm now accepting donations of tasty treats, beverages, and anything that might provide happiness via capitalistic means š„ŗ
Soup and cap pretty good
@sharp jasper okay. I've made several cups over the last 2 days and I have not figured out how to get it working as well with my gen 1 df64 which has its own set of nonsense and this thing is so finicky and the workflow for the Gen 1 is awful and that I have to restart my grinder five times for a 15 g dose on the slowest disc. And I'm working with the tail end of a bag and a new bag that I'd never had before. But the cups are so good and possibly it's just that I'm amazing at making coffee but that's probably not true
And I'm really worried that it's the cremaloop
possibly it's just that I'm amazing at making coffee but that's probably not true
I believe in you
Glad I rode my bike to work yesterday, itās cold out there today.
shorts+shortsleeves to load kiddo up into the car was a M I S T A K E
The gen 1 has auto shutoff?
Yeah. Like every 45 seconds.
This was supposed to be a temporary grinder that I've had for like 4 years now LOL
Gotta go garaged car, shorts, sandles, short sleeves with a fleece
Oh interesting seems like the updated df64gen2 they got rid of auto off
I think they made a bunch of really good upgrades on the Gen 2
It's one of the reasons I feel like I want to move to a newer grinder, but I don't know what I would upgrade to so I keep waiting
Should be some better price used 80mm grinders on the market over the next year. BooKoo is interesting but worried about the number of parts that could break.
The ode gen 2 has auto shut off. I hate it.
I'm trying to talk myself out of an eventual flat max or m98v
If it helps you any the ZP6 is pretty great. The jump from it to whatever you get is not going to be huge in the cup in my opinion. 15% max improvement
It will be really neat to see 80mm become better explored next couple years.
Im sure it will. So many are entering the space
Might ask if someone has a solution here https://discord.com/channels/726985544038612993/927337821109354516
I think I would try all three. But if I had to pick one probably the Sudan rume. Pretty sure the wilder lasso is an anaerobic washed.
Mixed variety Columbia natural 2 ways. One with Apax mineral drops and one without
Sameeee
So there isn't a way to manually hold the button on?
There might be but this is the first time I've run into needing it and I haven't really explored it to be honest
The p80 purge and auto off would happen in the moment between picking up and pouring in your beans š
This account seems familiar to me for some reason but I can't quite put my finger on it...https://www.instagram.com/atown_coffee?igsh=MWU0N2s2aHE3MHpu
I really want to hear about Big Sur
Seems like a cool dude
Probably worth a follow
I kind of get the feeling that's a dude who will do anything not to meet up with other Atlanta coffee geeks
Leave a rubber mallet next to itā¦. It might just know to act right
Aw come on he wanted to desperately but was sick
Like you havenāt had it before or how is this coming up?
I really enjoy their offerings
Never had before
Ooo
What I appreciate about Big Sur⦠Picky Chemist etc is that they roast light but will adjust ālightnessā for flavor. Like some roast so light just to be the lightest thing at a cost of losing flavor
I think thatās what makes them popular very light but make the adjustment for the specific coffee
Thatās my personal goal to learn how to do that
Lol I'm mostly teasing that I ended up at belux like right close to where he was but he was working
That's pretty cool. I need to branch out more into the bk, hydrangea, pickychemist ect. The sey subscription has been great but I'd like to see what else is out there in the ul or - roast for bean roaster.
Have you tried shoebox?
Bk has a subscription but itās a bit pricey. I signed up for Airworks subscription hoping to get pickychemist drops but Iām not fast enough.
People are saying Sey is back
Since we talked about coffee vacuums we just ended up moving it downstairs
Best cap of the month thanks to boulder blend today. I think I'm going to try long soup again this weekend using the tilt.
Tilt?
The worst part of long soup for me is knocking the air out so tilting allows some holes to not be covered allowing bed to be soaked and avoiding knocking out air bubbles
Ahhhh okay
https://youtu.be/3c4DZJroIv8?si=9pwzxlWuNZLN9ebx at around 7:08
Unironically, I use these machines daily. They are what I would consider my "daily drivers." Is it over-the-top? Yes. No question. But, coffee is my 9-5, my hobby (here), my passion.

yeah have experimented with this a bunch - definitely feels clunky. I've begun trying to seal a straw over a couple holes to aid displacement š
Did the tilt this morning and it went well
Is it better than 1:4 then bypass?
Never done that one
Like I usually go 20g:82g then add water to taste around ~1:1
Yeah its really good stuff IMO
I don't even love sidras, but I really enjoyed the brews I had of the one you shared on insta this am @nova wadi
Yeah this is the first sidra Iāve really liked
The sidra I had from September, one was Pepe jijon were excellent.
Just used same beans I made soup with this morning. Made a mess. Long soup is different, this is good, different texture and I would describe flavor as sweeter and more rounded
Iād agree with that
Just be prepared since itās cold out you will see a lot of evaporation
Yeah I didnāt think through the ventilation
And I certainly donāt want to be outside
Maybe this spring š
Did you read the ceto blog post
What happened to Bana
Oh interesting
What you mean?
It was locked and then disappeared
Ya I saw him doing something. Weird
Lmaooooo
Do feel like some decent info was lost
Searching for Atlanta is how I found Bana
Next thing I know Iām drinking H&S and shunning prodigal
World of Coffee would be fun
Iād love to go one year
Agree, I went in 2024. I think even a one day pass would be lots of fun.
Most of the equipment manufacturers are there so you can put your hands on stuff and many times use it. Coffee āinfluencers and celebritiesā are there pouring coffee at various booths. Some classes or lectures could be fun too
I would say keep your week somewhat open because there are events that happen earlier in the week too. Usually producers hosting meet and greets, tastings at various local cafes
Oh thatās way easier and I know Nola like the back of my hand
Road trip??
I feel like I would want the full 3 days because I'd want 3 days of caffeine tolerance. š«Ø
Not to mention the 1 day pass is $200ish and the 3 day ia $300ish
Ya thatās a good point
Bizarre coffee is in Woodstock I think but theyāre mostly crazy milk drinks (nothing wrong with that just saying)
Alma is kinda close
I just looked at the Florida meet up photos. Itās nuts!!!
I mean seriously. Itās nuts.
The whole kitchen and extra tables covered in coffee samples and gear
I was so close, yet so far... ššš
Did you see the photos. I canāt believe itās so much gear and coffee
@gaunt gulch has had his eyes on one
They had a couple Ozik grinders. Iāve never heard of them but they def look like titans
Yessss!!
Just an unreal set up
That's an understatement
It's like S.Korean Titus
Any idea how much it costs??
I donāt know but flow said itās worth it
Flow (Carl) from Bana
Is that South Korean dollar
South Korean won
Just did the conversion. Ya itās gotta be USD
They are 80mm. Even though side by side would be fun, I'd rather a Flat max and MC6 for the money.
They do look solid though
There have been a few oziks for resale.
Yeah I saw that double unit sit for a minute...
For me buying and then selling an ozik underscores that there is no āend gameā just different tools- many outside the price Iām willing to spend.
Fm grinder also pretty expensive
Ha I've been slowly putting money aside but I dunno if I'm there yet lol. I feel like with @desert dawn super portable travel grinder we're doing ok
Ugh south Koreans in coffee!
What did I just watch? They come in pairs?
Thatās pretty cool
I was going to do my first roast last night but got surprised with plans
Went to grana with some friends. Pretty good
My daughter was asking for Grana yesterday. Itās solid. She calls it the āplace where itās difficult to avoid porkā
Iām really happy the Florida meet had a gevi velpro 400 (grindmaster)
I think I saw something about this in here, but I got a base to lean my DF64 forward and it has rubber feet on the bottom and I can tell a major difference in noise
Like itās less noisy when tilted?
Made boulder blend plus remaining Aricha blend (boulmax?) in Gabi. Solid last cup.
I think itās because of the rubber feet
Was hoping the tilt would fix the insane retention Iām having
But doesnāt seem like it
At least itās less loud
Df64 gen1?
2
With Gen 2 I would use a pipe cleaner while powered off to try and clear the grounds from the plastic doorway for the ionizer which can be a choke point
It will snag the pipe cleaner if you try this while running
I feel like I clean it out all the time but I might need to take it off
Might be helpful to see whatās going on inside at that doorway. Donāt fiddle with the plastic doorway with bare fingers itās serrated for some reason.
Iām sure youāve opened it plenty but Iām obligated to say be careful while threading the aluminum is soft and can apparently cross thread relatively easily.
I havenāt opened it since I put in the MPs and havenāt messed with the plastic doorway so thatās a good call out
Put my time off at work for April 10-13. Gonna book flights to SD soon
My buddy went to WOC Dubai today. I think that tipped the scale for me
Where is this????
I havenāt booked but will def be there.
If I was rich I wouldnāt tell anyone, but there would be signs
Yeah but no range hood! What are they even doing in Florida?!?
Just taking a look at the worn wdt spray bottle I see a photo of priorities.
Lol
@desert dawn Iām going a check in cup of gititu today
Actually rn
This is guud as well - acidity is poppin once again.
oh yeah I still have another bag of that to crack
oh yeah I still have another bag of
that tocrack
FTFM
Wooooo!! How many days off roast at the moment? Roughly 30?
Kinda hate my K6 lately
Daughters been home sick so I have been hand grinding mostly. Only good brews I have had are when Iāve been able to squeeze in one with the MPs
You need that k7š
I was surprised how loud even manual grinding was when you want to be silent. I did not get away with it in the hotel room.
Yeah I think 34 or 35 days?? Roasted on 12-15
Crazy how loud it is when youāre trying to be discreet haha
Who all in here is doing MCL
Dang I got to pull mine
Time for a little bag burp
@nova wadi which blind Shaker did you end up getting?
Iāve had a mw3 bomber one for a while
will be up in atl at around 3-4pm if any wanna meet up for coffee/a coffee trade
You sold?
Huh?
Ctl7g means sold like when my kids use it- you had it in the bag but the you made a mistake and gave up the game.
Oh man I donāt think Iāll be able to make it today. What area are you headed to
Buckhead
Still confused lol
The way you phrased it is sort of like a Mitch hedberg quote. Sort of- I think he read as had instead of have had
Oh lol
You are in my neck of the woods but I donāt want to share my cold with you and in the middle of meetings
And these beans arenāt ready to drink yet- these will be my first aviary and scenery
I see. Was planning on bringing some panamas up
gotta give us more advance notice. clearly we're all anxiety ridden ad(h)d nerds who need to clear the calendar for coffee excursions
Also I'd have to take marta, and as much as I love the ATV, I'm in the middle of budget season
Perc today isnāt all that bad. A little blueberry, some stonefruit, black tea astringency but I canāt complain :))))))
You said "had" one!
Which location did you hit up?
Oops missed this
I canāt be held accountable for what I be typing
I like the Mitch hedberg reference
This
Thereās a lot of smart people on this discord, I am not one of them

I think the Italian pasties at Rosetta are pretty good if youāre here tomorrow morning. I think they came up here from Miami. Not going to recommend their coffee though I havenāt tried it myself
Unfortunately Iāve already gone back to Macon š
That feels unfair that Perc would skip Macon and go straight to Atlanta.
Iām glad the potential Ice storm is falling on a weekend but I may need to cancel my sonās birthday party :/
It snowed about 8 or 9 years ago in Atlanta and the next day it turned to ice. I told my wife to stay on Ponce and Clifton on her way to emory but she took her usual cut through Vickers Dr and found a massive downhill of pure ice. Her car lost control and slid into the side of the road along with several other people.
No today or 10 years ago?
I turned around on Ponce on my way to work and started heading back to her. Stopped just north of Vickeyās and walked down to her. A kind driver helped push her car free and I directed it over ice into the intersection which fortunately had enough sun (Hummingbird ln?) so I could drive the car again. Absolutely frightening. Appreciate the help I would have left the car
Yeah this was 2017 or 2018 maybe? So 8-9 years ago now that I think about it
Yeah looks like December and January 2017 to 2018 we had snow two times
Snowpocalypse. I remember it well
Found this quote from my text group 1/18/25 āSo the best (worst) part of the story is that someone saw my wife spin out on the ice, parked, got out of her car took a picture said āI just wanted to share this with the people at workā then got back into her car and drove off without helping.ā
Wait maybe that wasnāt it
Took this on my drive from daycare to our home in north Decatur. Took me an hour to drive 1 mile the streets were so jammed. All the schools and daycares were all canceled at once.
This is from January 28 2014
Okay yeah that was it
My wife is a teacher and she was like one of the last to leave. Ended up having to abandon her car and walk 3 miles home in the snow
Wild times
Need to go to Home Depot and find a sled
Sorry to hear about your sons birthday
Next day we went sledding at home
Daww
much easier in other languages because english is DUMB. A. F.
Yeah we get made fun of a lot because Atlanta shuts down bc of āsnowā but itās the ice not the snow
Well it's looking good for us this time around to not get snow/ice
if we get frozen anything this weekend, we're HOSED because there ain't no plows/salt trucks coming on loan from anywhere up the coast.
I took a course in grammar my last year in college. I appreciated how my mind was blown but at the same time a lot of the rules ultimately just make sense if youāre a native speaker. Also how are we going to survive without a real future tense?
Hoping for Atlantaās sake the storm keeps moving north but it seem like I havenāt really considered the impact of the ice:
Oh boy, gonna get me all hot and bothered talking linguistics and lexical features.
What's wild is that it took you until college to have that course! US education crushing it on failing its people. It's often those natural/obvious feelings and rules about grammar that really improve things like reading and critical thinking when you're able to put the actual names/guidelines to them (would cite studies, but on mobile)
My first (good/advanced) grammar exposure was 8th grade, then in 9th grade I started taking Latin which really opens up understanding of grammar across languages.
Feel like I studied more grammar in Spanish than in English in HS.
Another reason second language education should be mandatory
There is a chance I will do a pop up 2/28 in Athens again
Do you work at the Shepard Center? Good buddy of mine survived a brain tumor thanks to the work they do
Looks like piedmont to me!
Yeah both
Been working with shepherd for almost 11 years but itās so specialized that every situation is its own challenge
This photo is from the (newish) tower. I frequently snap photos, this feels like a calm before the storm
Wow very cool. A bunch of my friends used to do fundraising for Shepard. Would go to the derby days event every year. Yall are doing great things!
Made a mistake and tamped my inverted orb-over because I'm half asleep and it's taking forever. But I'm interested to see what happens
Ugh it's not great
Lol thanks y'all.
I too messed up this morning. Ground at 50um vs 550 on the Zerno for pour over. Wasted my blueberry Dakš„²
Ugh the worst
ok. booked my hotel for WoC. lol Margaritaville š
had to use my amex credit somehow
Iāve done 4 roasts now. Maybe 1 decent
I did not take into account how this would effect my backlog
Finna be bursting at the seams with mid to badly roasted coffee
Jimmy would be proud
That's so cool @nova wadi - what green do you have to roast?
I messed up too but I messed up over a month ago by buying āwashedā hydrangea beans but not looking carefully enough at the tasting notes for funk avoidance. Live and learn.
So I guess when you buy a roaster from Sweet Mariaās they throw in a bunch of random green beans. First two I did were a blend of a bunch of different things. Not sure they turned out well but just wanted to get the feel for the roaster. Last night I did two roasts of a Sumatra Lintong. Never had it before but just trying to dial in the roaster and learn how to use it before attempting some of the better looking green
Itās pretty fun. New obsession unlocked
But yeah so now I have ~800g badly roasted beans I donāt know what to do with š
Cappuccino?
I think Iām going to give them to my friends who drink keurig mostly lol
Yall are my only coffee friends
Same. Especially in Atlanta
Cold Brew? Thats what I sometimes use for mid-beans.
Thatās a good call
I've got a couple Atlanta coffee friends but only because they know about 20% of the insanity
One of them at our holiday party told his mom that I'm really into it and have "like 4 ways to make coffee" š
Yeah every time I make people coffee at home, I am mildly disappointed that people do not treat me like Britt treats Kato in The Green Hornet. Cause dang it, I feel like Kato!!! Haha
Kato (Jay Chou) whips up a perfect latte for Reid (Seth Rogen).

Dude, this is like the second green hornet reference that has popped up in my sphere this week
I saw it on Reddit yesterday!!
What's Reddit?
Seriously?? (Sarcasm detector š§)
Lol yes
Gonna be making coffee for like 6 dudes this weekend and Iām nervous
My friends now know Iām a coffee guy so expectations are high
People confused why you are making everyone coffee out of a plastic oxo.
Gonna be hooping it up
Iāve actually made them soup before and they politely told me they liked it lol
Politely told you they liked it or didnāt like it?
My mother didnāt give me any feedback when I made some for her- so I assume it wasnāt great. She prefers Major Dickasons
Liked it, as in they were polite and Iām not sure how they really felt
Ah got it
Itās so different than like a coffee they might be used to drinking and people generally prefer their own normal coffee
Spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to make my wife the coffee she wants and ultimately came back to making French press but I was able to improve our recipe quite a bit.
Yeah Iām trying to decide what coffee to bring because most of my stuff is pretty light. Maybe prodigal
Y'all out here fuckin up morning brews, I'm out here not remembering the last time I made coffee because existence is work.
We are not the same (You have better quality of life)
(But Papa Capitalism will reward me, surely!)
I drink coffee, so I can work longer, so I can earn more, so I can drink more coffee... š„“
Dawg, so do I... I must be doing something wrong here
(you do not miss an office. fuck a office. always and forever)
I have severe adhd.. every day is a struggle to focus
When my boss sat behind me at the office it was my best production ever
I have still yet to book
Todayās blah cup. I tasted the red honey and dry aroma was intense with red fruit, florals and some spice. Taste I got sweetness almost like ripe red fruit with some light florals. The finish lingers but something about its structure is off. I donāt know how to describe it, but the way the taste is happening in your mouth the whole experience of middle taste going to finish is off which through everything. Makes you think wait thatās weird
I'm still waiting for my pat on the back from that invisible hand
You don't get one every morning? Or maybe that's just the swift kick in the rear reminding me "the mines are open you slovenly fool, SO GET BACK TO WORK!"
If it's any consolation, the Gititu ripped this morning
Thatās amazing news!! I think the red honey I was tasting was just too young (1 week off roast). Iām still learning my style and how my cup evolves over time. So far until I really like something I donāt release it.
We are all our own biggest critics
I decided to make a filter with a natural Ethiopian not quite 3 weeks off roast. I used to love naturals but since using the a4z I havenāt been able to enjoy anything but washed.
Used the gabi, 88c, 13g:200mL, first brew was okay, some unpleasant harshness which I expected. Tried the lagom mini with moonshine burrs, a but coarser. It was worse. Went way coarse on a4z for a third attempt and it was the worst I really isolated that unpleasant flavor, now itās weak and very bad.
Iāll try again in February keep those variables and go finer to start.
When we did the cupping at Azara the majority were ones I thought not to release. Turned out they just needed loads of time
Are you keeping the same constant 13/200? What temp
Yeah. 88c. I like the Gabi because itās easy to just change one thing. 1 minute bloom at 45g or so
Do you follow that with multiple pulses essentially a 4/5 pour recipe
No itās the Gabi so itās just like a constant low agitation stream
Ah I see
Itās similar to the ratio 4 but I canāt control temp on that
I was thinking even though itās coarser grind it may be pushing the coffee too hard
I find I really like coffee in the 1.3X TDS because florals and nuance are very tea like and shine. I can push them much harder in the EG1 (or any of these grinders you guys are using really) to 1.5 tds without hitting astringency but it comes at a cost of losing certain nuance and but intensifying other flavors
I did the red honey on the Aiden in batch it only hit 1.29 tds. I added cream and sugar to see what customers might taste⦠somehow the cream opened up these perfumey florals??? At 1.40 tds instead it pulled out complex spices
I felt like the coarsest grind just leaned into the badness so Iām interested to see what it does if I go finer. I have 300g of this coffee so I can play around, let it rest, see if I can learn how to make a decent cup with the tools I have.
Iām thinking about picking up a k ultra to use as a secondary grinder for naturals
