Hell yeah thatās awesome man! Glad to hear it
Thatās awesome!! Congrats!!
Really want to do a cupping
gotta do another atl coffee meet!
Oh hey I think I see Alexyis in the back
yeah hahahha
finally decided to show out!!
helped me skim the crust for cupping since hes a š¤š» barista
For those who have a travel set up, what is your solution for a kettle?
I spent a lot of time looking for a kettle with 220v compatibility and adjustable temp. Iāll post what I used in Toronto but every place I stayed had a kettle and now Iām brewing at boiling in the ORB š¤·š¼āāļø
https://a.co/d/0idkq8v a touch slow to brew as it tries to hit the desired temp
Introducing our versatile and convenient Portable Electric Kettle, perfect for travelers on the go. This travel-friendly electric kettle is designed with your convenience in mind, allowing you to enjoy a hot cup of tea or boil water wherever you are. With its compact size and lightweight design, ...
I would also use a drip assist with this guy
That looks perfect. I think Iām planning to use the Gabi or aeropress, so I wonāt really need any fine tuning ability with pouring
Aeropress a little bit of assist will be nice pouring in. I was really struggling with it probably water issue.
More recently in Paris I brought the kettle and the ORB and then just used the hotelās kettle. All cups were so much better than the AP- and I was better at finding and picking out water by that point.
There is potential that I get an orb for Christmas, and if I do, Iām gonna need all yalls expertise on techniques haha
Mine is literally called TravelKettle on Amazon. I like it because it fits in my coffee bag
Whoops no
Portable Kettle
Not saying itās the best or anything but it works okay
This looks better tbh. I just like the shape of mine because it fits in my bag
Itās a touch slow. I bought a thermos style first but sent it back because it didnāt support 220v.
I have the same little @jaunty ice posted.
For travel PO or orb-something? Edit: sorry I'm behind as usual
hario air kettle, or even better, clean milk jug
Orb should be fine with AP it slammed into the grounds and i ended pouring through a strainer to clean it up a bit
most places I'd travel to hopefully have a stove, so water id just get something at the store, thats not too soft or too hard in ppm
AP I really wanted temp control since I couldnāt get decent cups above 85c
Oh I totally skipped how itās for Gabi or AP. My kettle is not good for that. I pretty much travel with the ORB exclusively
This is what I will do going forward
We have a neighborhood cat that hangs around our house a lot and I noticed it in our front yard this morning and didnāt think much of it. I just saw it in the same spot and it hasnāt moved all day š„
As far as I know this isnāt anyoneās cat
šæ
I have both of those travel kettles.
The collapsing one is bigger physically, more water capacity, has a pour spout. Cons it gets HOT to touch on some areas, and size not always needed.
The thermos one I have is 380ml capacity. I like the small size, SS interior, leak proof design. Pouring sucks and would be much happier if it was 400ml.
I would look at that Ikape portable espresso maker. Lance seems to like it. If it can pull soup I would do that and use bypass to the size I beverage I want
@jaunty ice i broke the nano foamer pro. How do you use the regular one? Any videos you watched that you liked?
What im doing now is similar to the the gaggia steam wand, made it too thick today though. None of the videos helped much compared to just using it for 2+ years.
Right now I use full strength to stretch the milk at the surface then it will naturally submerge and I try incorporate and I drop the power one level until it looks like paint?
Need to revisit Gatugi now that Iāve fixed my soup
Oh another thing. I use one vessel to heat in the microwave and pour it into the pitcher (warmed with hot water). This helps deal with a bit of film that can form on top in the microwave
If you froth in the microwave vessel you get crud in the wand
I found my grind size changed to coarser after resting
First attempt I stretched it too much in the beginning. So I ran the texture phase for a long time to break up bubbles and salvaged it a bit. That was pretty cool. On a real wand I would have lost it bc it would continue heating it
Thatās cool you could tell it was too thick before pouring
Seems like I need to focus on the stretching more
Story of my life.
wait we're talking about joint pain, right?
š
The trick I use⦠I stretch in my same milk pitchers all the time so itās consistent. I saw the volume go 2x when I went to submerge the tip and I knew I was in trouble. Normally not more than 1.5x
When the volume was 2x you can see the extra volume being foam which once incorporated makes it thick
If you donāt break that up enough then just chewy airy milk like broken and thick
Okay I just souped the last of my Gatugi factory and Iām not joking it was the best most flavorful soup Iāve had in a while
I fucked up telling people to dive in early
Yes
Iām on a Roest. They wonāt physically look as light as stronghold or fluid bed roasters. Also SL34 and SL28 in general just doesnāt look as light as other varietals
Coffee w/ Dongze roasts on a Roest and Iāve noticed something similar about his roasts re: the color
Still extremely light but looks ādarkerā on exterior
Roest and Loring both roast similar. Loring are the same generally 6-8 weeks off roast
Roest, Loring, IMF
I donāt know if the newest Roest p3000 is still in this category of roaster
I ran the same exact profile on some Columbian Gesha. Those were wicked light looking. Meaning some beans even with the same washed process just look darker too
He has a similar model to the one as you do I think, not the one that Feran just got
Which is the p3000
Iām already pumped for the next release
How much does a roest cost
Looks like the L100/L200 models are in the 8-10k range??
RIP
Over a decade ago my little brother bought a San Franciscan SF-1 and I think it was more than that at the time.
I want to roast for fun I think
It seems like they made roasting more accessible but roasting doesnāt sound like fun at all, it sounds like pain š
Yeah letās say 8500-10K. But I donāt know where tariffs put you. I was able to strike a deal where they were coming here and brought one for me.
Okay, I have a hot take but I'm curious. How similar is moka pot coffee to soup?
The way people describe Moka pot it seems like itās good at acquiring the exact flavors soup tries to avoid.
Yeah for sure you got me thinking
Do you have one? If I can find mine I can let you play around with it
I have a few of them. I was planning on decoration with them.
No way!!
I'm getting all our holiday stuff unpacked, I'm finding all sorts of fun stuff
There is a roaster near mall of ga that uses thereās for cold brew
I really enjoy making coffee from it. But it's a production
I can also bring it to the next get together
I could also probably host after holidays
i feel like this would be good for tea ngl
might just be me reaching but who knows until you try haha
That sounds fun
Have any of yall used an Acaia Orion Nano or an Accountant bean doser? Ive waffled on the idea of one. The Orion is just so dang expensive for what it is.
When using your K6, how many clicks do you use for turbo shots? And soup shots?
I donāt do turbo shots
Says soup guy
#1159142766354386995 message
Yes, the nano. I liked it. Itās not super fast - but it works. Many shops use them
The only downside is the hoppers can be wide and space taking. Ming from moonwake roasters designed a different hopper to keep 3 units together on bar
I saw that! The tall cylinders!
New Atlanta friend?
I wonder how the workflow is for waking up and dosing 1 or 2, 18g serving and then not using again until the morning.
Iām not sure about that. I played with it only for a bit.
I am planning on dropping a Caturra from Peru tomorrow. I just need a photo for it oh and labels š
Peru caturra sounds lovely
Itās really early to be tasting, but so far it feels really āsessionableā like sit down and enjoy a couple cups back to back
Iāve actually flipped this lol. 65-60 for soup and 75-70 for PO
Donāt really use the K6 much. Broke it out this week because Iām about to be traveling
Trying to dial back in
Day 0: clean apple sweetness, cocoa nibs and maple. Itās got a soft body and soft acidity. Very comfortable.
I look forward to this during peak winter coldness
Ohhh stoked
Wait is local pickup available? I am at my in laws in Dacula and could come pick up to avoid the shipping lolol
Lol. Not yet but Iām open to this in the future
Also I donāt know if I can get the labels in time. My supplier may have already shut down for the year cause itās saying earliest is 2nd week Jan
Go S&W style
But white bag with sticky label, line through the wrong roast date corrected with a shaky squiggle
Haha i love S&W
Iād def still buy if thatās what you ended up doing
I fucking love me a siphon brewer. so cool.
Seems like Lume Peru on the syphon might be in our future
Gonna have to tote it to a meetup then (without breaking it)

What are you guys drinking tomorrow morning
š
truthfully, to go along with my bailey's, I've got a s. american geisha that I picked up roasted here in vienna. Or Zo's latest. T B D .
The next 24 hours drink menu:
-Coquito
-Hugo spritz
-Wine
-Citrus milk punch
-Rose tom Collins, thanks to @gaunt gulch
-Goldschlager shots before Xmas games
Mine is probably still super early
yeah but so is this other stuff, so it's just a case of whose I want to mess up first ;P
think I'm saving yours to share with Austrians anyway
cultural invasion, etc. etc.
Damn I need to come hang out with yall
My wife loves a Hugo spritz
Iām really loving the H&S Rumudamo right now
Both the washed and the natty are fantastic. Iām pretty new to H&S and Iām really loving them quite a bit
Wbu
had totumas this morning. miller tonight and probably miller tomorrow
Washed or natural? Probably finishing the natural this weekend.
Drinking and loving both
Iāll have to buy both if still on sale next week
Canāt wait for them to open subs up in Feb
I finished the Natural over the weekend and have 90g left of the washed, Will knock that out as well as the Birthday Cake and Space Jam over the rest of the week.
Been on the H&S and Sept EL sub for a little over a year and no regrets with either.
Iāve got Birthday Cake and Space Jam resting. So stoked
Think mine were Nov. 21 roast dates. So figure 35 days should be good since both are process-forward.
Mine are 11/30
Iām so jealous of anyone that gets to do the holidays in their own home
Iām hitting 3 different houses and then flying to Houston
On the bright side I just found out our air bnb has an electric kettle
H&S sub is one of the best value buys in specialty coffee IMO
I just got in the shoebox x Airworks collab on the alo auction lot. Itās a little early but high chance I rip it. Also planing on drinking a Los Cenizos Gesha roasted by Coffee with Dongze. And then probably the H&S rumudamos haha
I live in Vienna, Austria
I miss Vienna
Can I come?
Come and visit. We used to have pandas
Are you in Atlanta, USA?
Many say that Atlanta is the Vienna of the Southeast
Really!? Or are you pulling my leg haha? Iāve only ever been to the east coast (New York, DC., Massachusetts)

Thank you!
Merry Christmas ATL Aficionados
Merry Christmas yall
My brother in law came over last night and was like you remember that pink bag you gave me?? I really liked itā it was Hydrangea
I did a hoop and a soup of Juan x Rogelio from Shoebox this morning
Hoop and soup sounds like it needs to be a standard thing
Iām very impressed with the hoop
My sweet sister in law got me coffee subscription of preground coffee š
Oh no
Haha yeah thought that counts
When you become āthe coffee personā in your family and friends lives, people just start buying you coffee and you feel bad because youāre into a specific niche of coffee that most people donāt understand
But like you said, itās the thought that counts!!!
Butchered the Colombian brew this AM.
Did a OK brew of Thankfully's November stuff.
Done with my Glühwein, aboutta fall asleep.
twas a good crimmus. may yours all be merry
Can you call the company and change?
Yeah maybe. Atlas coffee club
Iāve got some lotus drops
So might just get a gallon of distilled
Just depends on if I want my in-laws to judge me or not
I think good coffee might be worth it
My FIL thinks Iām crazy but fortunately heās crazy about tea so he gets it
Definitely worth the judgement IMO. Iāve brought so much gear to my in laws for extended stays that they are desensitized to it now
Itās based on 2024-2025 public data so it could be off but thatās still pretty crazy ppm
Iām going to try to go but itās kinda far from where we are staying I think
I have so many responses for this but just canāt bring myself to post them because I come off so terrible. Complaining because people are spending money on me š
Dude yeah I hope I didnāt sound like a jerk haha
But itās true someone bought me caribou coffee and they can barely afford gas and I wouldnāt even run it through my grinder
Like I genuinely appreciate when people try to get me coffee
Nah you didnāt I just felt it and the conviction hit hard
Ah I wouldnāt, I found the Houston highways to be unpleasant and punishing
Yeah it sounds bad to complain. I appreciate that she tried to be thoughtful. I put gift cards for H&S, Shoebox, and Prodigal on my list and she said āI saw you had gift cards but I wanted it to be more personalā
So itās like damn I appreciate the hell out of you
Brutal
But also
What a conundrum
So I bought you ROEST L100
Man thatād be something haha
Thatās awesome
Ready to make some coal
Which one did you get???
I bought myself a P80, drove by a stopped school bus seven lanes over on the opposite side of Peachtree, sold the p80 at a loss. So I think for Christmas I lost about a p80 worth of money.
Yeah. It was the most expensive piece of coffee equipment Iāve ever purchased and it felt really out of place to be honest. I didnāt enjoy it as much as my conical for espresso and that was its primary purpose.
It did a good job for processed beans for filter but that was the secondary purpose. Looks like Iāll have to just get better at using my original equipment and address the underlying skill issues
I have nothing to complain about
Did you find a buyer in ATL? Also - such a bummer about the ticket for passing a school bus on peachtree
Iām not used to being on the road that early. Live and learn. Minus $1000
Sold it to someone who appears to own a cafe in Yerba Buena
ā ļø
If I were to get into soup, outside of the ORB and grinder, what would I need? Just AP filters?
Yeah. @nova wadi might think of something else but I would add really good beans. I generally use UL washed since my A4z plus soup can highlight funk in unpleasant ways. That being said Iāve found decaf to be pretty good as soup.
Your current grinder probably fine Id imagine. You can use AP filters but theyāre not the best. A lot of people use hole punches on chemex papers or if youāre lazy like me you just buy precut K and J size chemex from Good Brothers
ORB and some filters and youāre soupin
Thankfully I predominantly drink UL washed. After testing out the Q air, I can see how a different grinder for funkier coffees could be better than the A4Z. This H&S rumudamo natural is so much more sweet in the Q air than the A4Z
I got a SR800. Something I can dip my toes with
This is why when in doubt I grab the ZP6 over the eg1 or Pietro
Because they are higher clarity grinders, right?
Yes and less blendy
I think I'm going to buy a femobook A2 for this purpose.
I really enjoyed naturals with the ZP6 but really don't enjoy them with the A4z. This makes me feel a bit crazy because they should be similar.
Hmmm. I wonder if thatās why I donāt mind naturals cause of the ZP6
When I was learning filter in Taipei last year I think I was having water issues because the naturals were amazing but I could barely taste the washed beans. When I returned to the US I kept buying naturals up until the A4z arrived this past summer.
The eg1 is also more annoying to dial in. For me it still doesnāt feel right turning the wheel so much. I have to remind myself and count 5, 10, 15 etc because each click is only 5 micron
On most filter style grinders one click is 20+ micron
that must be nice to be able to think in microns
Actually, I was complaining because there are so many clicks on the A4z but making soup with it it's kind of useful to be able to make small changes
Itās a must for me to try to keep track of what Iām doing. But I donāt think it really translates well between grinders
Yeah I just brewed a shoey natural with the Q air and am getting a much better cup than when I went with the A4Z š
Alright Iām getting the a2 when itās on sale or while Iām in Taipei
Skills be damned
Correct me if Iām wrong mā¦
the ZP6 is 22 micron per click. shoebox recipe 4.3 - 4.5 translates to 950-1000 micron
Iām not anywhere near that on the eg1
I would assume zp6 producing more fines than what Iām guessing is an 80mm brew burr?
My point is just on a ZP6 for v60 i think Im at 1000+ micron. On the eg1 Iām at 600-650??
Ha this is me
Maybe but it doesnāt look that dramatic
Pietro well known for its tasty fines
I only point this out because sharing info sometimes is pointless
I never would have thought grinder mattered so much.
The Pietro grind setting based on micron is more similar to the eg1
Yo buried the lede
Maybe microns comparison more meaningful flats to flats and conicals to conicals
The Pietro with pro burrs is similar to the eg1 ULF burrs
Forgot people may use different burrs
No I hate that!
Wth how did I do that
lol yes two **
Ya interesting. I put the asterisks in to show my correction to you guys
About a decade ago my wife went to court for the ticket and the judge was basically just cutting fees in half for people showing up
Also, there is a guy who is releasing mods for different grinders to use the Pietro pro burrs. That could be game changing for ballin on a budget
I was going to if it was either of the other two schoolbuses I passed that week (pulled to the side but no red lights, blocking traffic but not picking up kids)
Another reason to get the A2 but Iām less than impressed by fused visions other stuff and I feel like heās just gearteasing us
Oh thatās sucks. I hope not
This guy was the one that came out with the mod to be able to use the Pietro with a drill
The Pietro is really slow fyi. Typical 12-20g dose takes a full minute
The ZP6 feels like half that
Yeah a2 is already slow so I assume it will take some patience. Step 1 is finding the burrs
Ya but $100 electric is totally acceptable if itās slower
I got a ticket in October. I was in the back (third car) trying to keep up with the ones in front of me. Cop was coming from the opposite direction and turned his lights on all three cars pulled over when they realized he was after me they ran
I think I might grab one too. Been hand grinding this week and already hate being back to it lol
For soup and especially espresso I think hand grinding just not a good idea long term.
Iām guessing the A4Z isnāt great for soup? How much finer do you grind for soup vs filter?
Itās soooo good for soup
Something is up with my filter brews @cedar olive not sure if itās seasoning related but Iām having to grind coarser than I was (used to grind for filter at 1.4.8 and now Iām in the 1.5s up to 1.5). But for soup Iām at 1.0.0 with the AP filters and with cut out chemex on the bottom at 1.0.7
At one point I went from being at 1.5.0 for filter to now being at 1.5.5-1.7.5 depending on method
Like for shoey QC, Iām between 1.7.0 and 1.7.5
Yeah. Maybe itās seasoning?
Definitely tasted like I ground too fine at 1.4.8 now. Changed out my water filter since it was due since posting this.
I think Iāve had the A4Z for less time than you so idk lol. I got mine around early July
Thatās when I got mine
Right after TCC reviewed it
I think I got mine just before
But remember feeling really good about my purchase after watching the TCC review haha
I had been looking for an electric filter grinder for a while and actually bought a kinu pob + dm47 as well as a lagom mini. It was hard for me to come around to paying for an electric zp6 but hearing that it might be even better was huge. I wouldnāt let myself be swayed by the convincing Reddit post from vs6 gold supernova burr hype guy.
this guy is susc
I make mistakes, accidents and Iām happy to help others is one thing. I intentionally post things to get a rise is another esp when you are a company
Personally found the guy a bit too obnoxious..
Yeah. He feels very pretentious for a guy who thus far sells mid 3d prints.
Would this be useful to you? https://discord.com/channels/726985544038612993/1454172983479505058
I dont mean to be a negative person but I agree. Also all of a sudden there is just alot of @s going on... And alot of glazing
Really? In insta?
Whatās up? New to the group?
Iām just doing for fun
The SR is a very capable roaster from what Iāve heard should be exciting!
I donāt have first hand experience with the SR. I would be happy to answer questions share knowledge etc
Definitely will. Excited to mess around with it
Hope my friends and family are ready to be gifted coffee beans for every occasion going forward
Do any of yall order from TPC? Only two of his coffees are available via Airworks, so I was thinking of ordering direct. However, he ships via DHL, so itās gonna be 50-80⬠to ship. Figured it could make sense if we got enough people for a group buy and then divvied up at next meet up
But no pressure if not interested - was just curious
could be swayed :)))))))
Shoulda planned for EU purchases while I was over here, sorry team
Unless tpc can ship to Vienna overnight š
I was in Paris in October and went to substance but couldnāt sit for a drink š
Ugh I want to go to substance so badly!!!
Blendin is 15 min away. Should I go for it? @jaunty ice
Yes
Which location
Check closing time
Another cafe to check out is un caffe
Good coffee
Itās a little late for me to drink but I guess itās not quite 3pm there
Parking is a little bit suck.
Wait this one was cool too
I went when Scott Rao was on bar during convention and they were serving prodigal
@nova wadi will get in trouble if he talks about prodigal again.
I did this dance last year #875404615905050674 message
I should have got an A4Z instead of the 078 Iām feeling left out in here
Do you like the 078?
Like a year ago it was 078 or 64mm with SSP MPs
Not everyone likes zp6/a4z profile and there can be some retention. I had to vacuum up a couple grams of lerida gesha earlier š
Really? Why dont you like the 078. I would think its very capable.
@desert dawn my wife was learning how to soup and I told her to pick from the hydrangea š¤·š¼āāļø
It was good though š
Thereās a retention difference compared to slow-feeding the ZP6. I put a 3D printed hopper mod on it to prevent the popcorning and am currently manually slow-feeding. Grinding at the lowest (800) rpm setting and coarse (11-13 setting with pin -2, -3 makes it chirp at 0 but no need to have that). Soup at 0.5-2. Cups have been very well balanced between clarity and body.
Fines clicker is cool. I get about 0.1-0.2 per 15g and donāt use it.
Sounds good to me
Having the rpm on the back is an asanine design choice but I guess they back-loaded the electrical install.
Would you rather have the grind dial on the back like philos?
Buddy is willing to buy it in six months for what I paid for it, so Iāll probably talk myself into a A4Z/M80/078 2.0.
Hopefully more used a4zs by then
Iād rather have the grind and rpm next to each other instead of having one of them not visible during use.
Do you change rpm a lot? Is it not more of a set it and forget it?
Finished work and heading home. Wish I could have more caffeine.
Check it out 1072 Peachtree perfectly reflects One Atlantic center
Haha for real, they really hate him over there. I donāt have big feelings either way on Scott but I really enjoy Prodigals profile
Un Caffe is the closest to me
Might check it out
That new building is so cool
I turn it up for the process-forward beans like birthday cake where clarity isnāt important.
It took me too long to try to understand why I could see through one Atlantic into the one behind it
Ha I was scrolling through and it sorta broke my brain until I zoomed in
Aviary 10, 11, and 12 got delivered by Iām not home
if you drop your addy I can help
That was fast!
Good idea. Let me give your my credit card and SSN too just to be safe
Picture ID would be helpful too.
oh darn, travels to texas ?
Yeah visiting family
Morning, from Atlanta?
Welcome! I gotta make the journey up there some time.
My family asked if I need anything from the grocery store before we arrive in Sacramento. I said distilled water š¤¦āāļø
Yall let me know if you come up this way for Belux
Yup
Itās very nice, very high attention to detail
Thatās awesome! Welcome! Roughly what area are you in
Will you get distilled or regular
Distilled? Debating whether I bring lotus or just dilute filtered tap.
I think I look crazy either way.
Cumming / Alpharetta area
Oh no I meant do you think they will actually grab distilled
Like 20 mins north of peach coffee roasters
Nice Iām in Lawrenceville closer to Snellville
Ah cool
Ohhhh. I think theyāll get it, they used to make distilled water, I had to manually descale their distiller at work š
Vinegar plus steel wool š¤¢
Nice Iām in the Roswell / East Cobb area. Pretty close to the Roswell Belux
My wifeās uncle uses a cpap machine so they came through with the distilled
As soon as I pulled out the lotus droppers the jokes started flying
But hey itās good coffee
I paid good money for these beans
Why did they make it?
They needed it for their autoclave I think
Interesting
Will be very cool if it's Arrowhead mountain spring water
I feel like we barely get that out here
Itās good right? Alhambra, Crystal Geyser, Calistoga sparkling water.
Anyways, once filtered Atlanta tap is pretty good, especially carbonated.
We usually keep Crystal Geyser on hand. Inexpensive for spring water here
forgot to check this server for a while and came back to this thread š
More Atlanta peeps?
yeah doraville / tucker area š
any of y'all visit auxiliary or recuerdos yet ?
Welcome!
Welcome.
I did Aux. Good retail. Passionate owner. Heās a big fan of the Paragon. It did a nice job toning down some funk.
yeah went to aux once too, tbh i mostly drink washed as i brew at home and it's like a place for me to experiment the funk beans lol
or did most people here brew at home too š
Definitely. Havenāt been to a place yet that serves light roasted PO or soup shots
I really want to hit up auxiliary
Same
yeah def worth going there, iirc he also owns academy in vahi
but yeah idk how many places iāve tried in atl on light roast PO and turns out to be buying a more expensive cup of drip š
@sharp jasper I'm kicking myself for not grabbing that 50 metal ember mug
Dude I'm loving that thing at work. Definitely worth it when it goes on sale again.
With all the family I'm constantly setting my cups down and not remembering them until much later
@gaunt gulch they still have the 6oz on sale 20% off
Designed for home or office, the Ember Mug 2 does more than simply keep your coffee hot. Our smart mug allows you to set an exact drinking temperature, so your coffee is never too hot, or too cold. Ember then maintains your chosen temperature for up to 1.5 hours with the Ember Mug 2, 10 oz and up to 80 minutes with the Ember Mug 2, 14 oz - so yo...
The mug is 30%
If you have the shop app it might have another discount you can pair with it
I won an ember mug in a company holiday party a couple years back
I donāt use it much though because I donāt want it on my counter
I do wish they looked better.
Although the stainless one is kinda nifty
But cmon! It's better than cold coffee!
Now that my kids are older it's generally not a problem. I just have to remember for holidays
The Monks will be in Snellville soon
Thats a heck of an endeavor
Are we making them coffee?
Okay, side question. Are lotus drops cheaper than 3rd wave water per gallon?
I know! I did legit think about making coffee for a moment. Then I realized my tastes probably donāt align with what they may want
Time to break out the folgers black silk!
Not sure, I went with lotus at one point just to try different things
lol. Iām guessing instant coffee of some kind. Usually in Asian countries itās strong instant coffee thatās 50/50 coffee to milk
Ahhhh okay
Makes sense
I know Iāve seen Vietnamese friends enjoy cafe du mondeās chickory coffee like in that same 50/50 fashion
Yeah BIL goes half moka pot / half sweetened condensed milk sometimes. š„“
Wow that sounds heavy
Ooo that reminds me. A friends dad was in one of the smaller Asian countries and had egg coffee. It was like a large latte but thiccck
In Hanoi - ultra creamy Viet egg coffee. Egg yolks, sugar, condensed milk blended and scooped on to robusta coffee. They take the whole cup and place it in a larger bowl of hot water to keep it warm.
Geeeeeez
I bet it wakes you up
And keeps you full till dinner
Hmm not sure. I really like them though
With this water for coffee 2 book out i imagine what we know about water is going to change drastically
Currently itās over my head in chemistry
Iāve converted to APAX this year, and itās greatly simplified and improved my coffees
I have a degree in chemistry signed by Arnold Schwarzenegger but still figuring out water.
He'll be BaCl2
Hmm interesting. I've never heard of them. Any reason in particular you chose them over lotus?
With Lotus, in general, I kept getting flat or too acidity forward brews. Since the droppers are lower concentration, it takes more drops to get to a target ppm so I would make a batch of brew water instead of adding post brew like I do with APAX, and I felt like the lotus system was just more work to use. More drops, more calculation, more trial and error, etc. Whereas with APAX, I only add 2-4 drops post brew, which is super easy, and it almost always improves the cup
Ahhhh that makes sense. Better fine tuning
Any of yall tried soup with an aeropress???
I havenāt. Iāve seen that itās possible with the joepresso adapter but it costs more than an ORB which is a lot easier to soup on
I'm in the same boat
Iām about to try it and will let yall know. I have the prismo attachment and found someone who said you can make it with that
Anyone have a pulsar?
Yes thatās why you need both
Whatās the roast date
Yes. Two
Good lord the lotus drops go fast in a gallon of distilled water
The tds of their filtered tap is 43 so I think Iāll just brew with that in the future.
Iām going to get a mini in the near future.
11/10. 50 days
No but there are people doing it in the soup thread. I would just get an ORB since itās so easy to work with.
Oh wow
I'm like 650mu and draw down is pretty long
I already have an AP so Iām trying to see if I can replicate before purchasing the orb
@jaunty ice whatād you say your grind size was on the A4Z for soup?
Norman for Eth. They produce a lot of fines and clog filter
Whatās your thoughts on it compared to a V60
With AP filters I grind finer close to 1.0.0 with chemex on bottom 1.0.5 or so
They have a clever dripper over here I gotta figure out how to use it. Hopefully a rinse takes care of the unbleached filter
Tastes pretty sour. Maybe I went too coarse.
Although, I donāt know what proper soup should taste like so not much to compare to haha
I'll try 700 tomorrow
I get sour if my brew temp is too low and I donāt soak
I tried using the lance hedrick recipe that he released a few days ago
95c brew temp
Not much soaking though
I did 1.2.5 on the grind so Iām assuming thatās it
If you feel bad about $45 for the oxo brewer itās $50 for the travel version. Spend more for it to make sense š
Oooh I havenāt seen the travel version???
Looking on Amazon Iām only seeing one version?
The travel version comes with a bag and has red accents
I found it on the oxo website!
Eths I find generally need finer grind. For PO you can change to a two pour recipe. It raises the height of the water and allows fines access to more filter paper to get stuck to generally causing faster draws
Check REI or oxo website
Is that a bloom and then a single other pour? I feel like with that water height I'm going to mostly immersion brewing
Here is lecture part 1
Pulsar has a million recipes to choose from allowing more versatility. You have: percolation, no bypass, immersion and drip assist all in one. Giving you options for lively acidity and body together. Plus claims of higher extraction before hitting astringency.
The v60 with percolation is known for lively acidity with some sacrifice on body.
French press, aeropress with immersion/no bypass give you more body less or rounded/smoother acidity.
Part 2
I find most recipes it needs 20g min but 22-23 is more forgiving. The mini I heard is a lot less forgiving so far, but Iām sure people will figure out . Generally I found myself struggling when I first got it to figure it out. Iām sure I could do better now.
Alrightā¦.. Part 3 - the kicker.
They were one of the larger Sponsors for an event Emily Bryant was throwing to complete the funding for her gender surgery. They pulled funding at the last minute because they did not want to support that.
This is a global community that is open and supports all walks of life. A lot of people pulled support for Pulsar because of this.
Ah
Yes, but you can play with pour fast, swirl, and pour from high causing lots of agitation during the single pour.
I was at 500mu to start but I was double 3x bloom and then single pour
Ya⦠it was really sad because they have prior partnerships with her releasing the Emily Bryant edition etc
Yall Im here on the path of the Monks walk. Itās crazy how much support is here.
TIL
I need to read about what youāre doing this sounds cool
According to Lance he said Gange was pissed when he found out! He told Next level to send his commission checks to Emily so she still gets the money. Lance told Gange to do the same with the money he owed Lance for testing.
Jonathan Gange is one of the consultants? for the Pulsar
I got a Ceado Hoop. The improved filters were sold out at the time, but I just ordered some.
Iām glad to hear about this and super disappointed. Good news is I donāt have to worry about another gadget.
Yeah the mini looked interesting but guess I'll look into modding the orb
Any of yall planing on getting the TPC drop??
Hoop with the good filters has been pretty great
I have the Gabi A, plastic V60 01, Switch 03, ORB, Hoop, an AP, and a Kalita Wave Style (185 size glass that sits atop carafe).
Just bought some beans at a local cafe to brew tomorrow
i think itās the bean lol, i cupped it a couple of times and doesnāt seems to have any acidity profile
i do too
Where did you buy???
Iām on vacation in Sacramento, went to Scorpio downtown
*gets out of car and returns to home office
Ok that makes me feel a little less crazy
Must continue to ignore this message.
Itās sold out at this point I believe! I went through the process to see what shipping is and it was around 38⬠so I feel like it only makes sense in a group purchase
Maybe we can get a meetup planned around the next drop so we can subsidize the shipping lol
Iām unfamiliar with whatās going down?? Is this happening in Lawrenceville?
Monks walk for peace
Itās huge and really touching
Decatur was the destination today. The senators and Ruwa will be speaking
Iāll post this later on Lume. They were booking it. Canāt believe they can keep up that pace
Was about to ask if they made it to Decatur yet
Not the sq, but yes
I saw them at Glenwood and Candler a little earlier.
Nice! I went to the lunch spot earlier then was hoping to see them in the sq at 3, but that got pushed to 5
2 miles from my house - unlike them, I did not walk.
Iām astonished by their walking pace
itās still a good ethiopian but i do think i was expecting a little more from it
Aviary confirmed safe
I bet we were at the airport together.
Tried this. Went to 527mu and it was a touch astringent and maybe a bit more acidity. Pretty decent cup
Help me @nova wadi
Whoa I missed this. That's so cool
You need it
You have a neo @nova wadi ???
Lol no. I just figured q1fy26 coffee equipment budget is about to open up...
I donāt
lol
Iām not sure you can even get a Neo in the states - Iāve looked but have never found it
If you donāt spend it theyāll cut the budget next year!
First brew home back with the MPs and the Gabi was like a smack in the face with clarity. Delicious
I could try to get one for you in march.
My own experience with the ct62 which has a slightly different angle but similar internal is that itās difficult to use a less poplar brewer since there will be less recipes
Have you used an immersion brewer? Thinking about going 1.6.5 for a clever dripper, itās similar to a switch.
I havenāt with the A4Z unfortunately
Will give it a shot. 1.5.5 had a bit of bitterness. Tried a recipe where you add the grounds to water and stir. But you left it for 8 minutes and they wanted a 18:1 ratio š¤Ø
Super interesting
@nova wadi got my buddy printing that tamper. Anyone else need anything printed? Only have pla and petg-gf
My man
Ugh I need a freezer bag of dedent coffee for guests that are coffee drinkers but not crazy people like me
I found it but shipping is $21.
That is to say, they will ship to the US.
Quality Life in HK
Kind of obsessed with the Gabi today
Many such cases.
Although I mistakenly switched from xBloom filters to Kalita. Going to just have them as emergency filters.
Using Gabi on V60 until I order more.
You could put the top of the Gabi on a V60.
The Loveramics server I bought when I needed low clearance for the xBloom actually fits the Gabi brewer and the Hoop perfectly.
The Gabi is the way
Whatās your experience with using Xbloom vs kalita?? Iāve only used kalita since Iāve had it
I might try that
Kalita papers are a lottery in terms of flow. xBloom papers are consistently much faster. Very similar to Sworks wave.
They donāt smell great but I always pre-rinse anyway so not really a factor.
Oh interesting Iāve just been using kalita
Kalita 155?
Yeah thatās what Coulter said he uses in the Gabi video so I went with it
FWIW - these are what I use
Dang mine just came in a little baggie lol
Kalita 22201 Wave 155 (100P)... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BJBOIKM?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Are these no bueno?
Man I wished they made it metal
I know Davy from Now and Then has one
I like the Clever. Itās really forgiving. I think itās great for beginners or just a no fuss cup
22211 vs 22201 vs 22213 are just packaging and 50 vs 100 I believe.
I made a very meh cup today š«”
Alex at Thankfully said he prefers these (uses the Gabi as well)
I grind finer than v60. 1:16/17. Usually water first. Add coffee stir to get all coffee saturated gently. Let sit till 2:30. Light stir let it all settle. Begin draw down at 3
I donāt cover it. I run water around 208F
If you forget it and come back too late extraction doesnāt get terrible. After around 2-2:30 the extraction increase really drops off
The Kalitas?
Super helpful, thanks.
Iāll give it another shot tomorrow. I went in mostly the opposite direction today, coarser and lower temp
Oh interesting
So they are different
Haha okay
Maybe we can test them side by side a meetup to see? genuinely donāt know if thereās a difference
Yeah for sure
Happy New Years to everyone in advance!
Happy New Years!!! Hereās to more good coffee and hopefully more meet ups in 2026!
Grab the xbloom and Sworks wave filters too for the ultimate wave off
Happy New Years! Glad we were able to get our little group going. Looking forward to meeting everyone soon
Happy new years y'all!
First night in years I managed to sleep through the fireworks at midnight! Happy new year everyone.
Okay, so what setting on the ZP6 do yall use for soup?
I'm thinking about trying to build a Decent soup shot. Just to experiment with.
For UL 2 or higher
Okay cool
Same, Iām usually in the 2-3 range for soup on the ZP6
Iām sure there is a profile for it already
Iām pretty Gabi pilled right now
A week of just Oxo RB and K6 really made me appreciate the MPs and Gabi clarity
Spent my NYE drinking Hugo spritzes with my wife and watching SR800 roasting videos
So stoked to burn some beans
Ive never downloaded a custom recipe. š«£š«£
I need to learn how to do that
I usually just modify something to what someone has posted. š
And I realized my dang ZP6 is at work.
Was gonna grab some XBloom filters but the shipping cost is as much as the filters
Is that because its already Decent?
Maybeeeee š It has probably 40 built in profiles.
Iāve done this so many times. Think to finally purchase them, and then the shipping totally demotivates me
If it was $5, Iād do it but $10 is hard to swallow
I mean I was impressed with what you were pulling and the texture on the milk. Its solid
Happy new year guys!
I added this cassette icon to my name by watching my 2025 discord recap. Now I have no idea how to get rid of it
Ok lets see if its gone
Interesting. Looks like I cannot unless I go nitro plus. wth
I only get them on Amazon. $10 free shipping.
Ohh I didnāt see them on there
They also have the conical filters on there. Very fast filters.
Might be getting restocked.
Here are the conical: https://www.amazon.com/xBloom-Premium-Conical-Filter-Paper/dp/B0F82ZM658

Ohhh thank you!
Just ordered from Williams Sonoma lol
Gonna return the filters I just bought
Thanks @vocal mesa!!
Any good shops open today?
Same
Sorry I missed this. Are you in town?
Oh man!! Sorry I missed it. Did you grab coffee anywhere
anywhere in atlanta to buy ABACA filters ?
ive just run out š
and now resorting to brown paper filters (and hella rinsing)
I donāt think so, reminds me I desperately need to order too
darn
i know places with the hario tabbed filters, but none with abaca, usually get them on amazon
I think last time I ordered them directly from cafec. But I donāt see the 100 pack 01 size anymore only comes in a box of 40 filters. Not really an issue i can use the 02
Pulsar mini peeps going through some things
What do you mean??
Seeing some suffering in the discord chat
Yeah I think they are saying itās not a forgiving brewer
I think thatās why Gagne blog post probably about it landed today too
Saw something about a leak as well
What's the difference between those and the t-90s
I think Abaca is a different paper material? Both are made by same manufacturer
If you canāt get those, give those xBloom conical a try. Just make sure you prewet, they are kind of stinky sometimes. Fit 01 like a glove though.
Any chance any of you have a deep 27 dripper yall don't want?
Iām thinking about ordering one when I order more filters
I'm thinking I'll get it from perc the next time I buy for their 31% sale. I know it's not on gear, but still gets me to free shipping. Lol
They are in Lawrenceville and Duluth. I have not tried them yet.
I tried Valor today. I would say lighter side of medium. Not bad I think pretty it was great for their target market lets people experience things they probably otherwise have never heard of
They've had valor at academy and it was pretty decent
The cafe I work at supplies beans from valor
Workers Comp, medium to dark
And book club for decaf
Nice!
What do you primarily like to drink
For espresso Iām a huge fan of medium or medium-dark. Pretty much anything that can preserve bright origin notes without being very acid forward. Medium Brazilians are awesome when dialed
I either drink the espresso straight or make a cortado
For pourover I love citrusy notes so light Africans are my goto for that
I try to make light Ethiopians (counter culture Apollo) into espresso every once in a while and it definitely does taste interesting. I usually end up with a lungo recipe pulled in 40-55 seconds
Itās not bad, but Iāve decided that those flavors are just better represented in pourover. Espresso doesnāt do it enough justice
This is what natural Ethiopian beans are for.
I agree. Wider flavor spectrum in PO
I mostly drink PO
Hey yāall. Based in Roswell, but sometimes at cuppings at Flow and up at Meadowlark. Glad to see an Atlanta contingent here!
Welcome
Tried a new cafe today: From the Well. Fellowās coffee/wine space next door. Only cold brews now but some fun creative drinks made with that as a base.
Seems theyāre waiting on an espresso machine
I looked up Meadowlark. Whatcha doing all the way out there
Ahh ok.
Meadowlark usually has a great rotation of roasters from what Iāve seen
Never gotten a chance to visit though
If they donāt, theyāre wrong
Fellows does great milk drinks generally
Pretty good breakfast spot
Awesome porch when itās warm
I know the owners of Fellows! Good people
Oh thatās awesome. Always been a fan
Wife and I love Fellows. But it was slammed today so we went to Heart&Seoul
My son is two. Maybe by 4 he will calm down and I can visit one of these places
I had a latte from them at the Roswell farmers market
Been meaning to go
This is my daily driver. Plain espresso or 100ml steamed milk added to espresso. What are your favorite medium roast beans thus far?
Perc Brazil Legender was one i really liked as espresso. Came out almost like almond butter espresso. Although I finished the bag as PO and liked that a lot too.
Been meaning to try this one but my go to has been CCC fast forward***. Great price at Whole Foods and has a really nice balanced taste. Lots of caramels
Oh for sure! And CCC is often found super fresh here at the Chamblee Whole Foods! Its my go-to for when I have family over. Fancy enough for craft coffee without complaints it tastes too different than folgers. š„²
I'll try Apollo next time I buy some!
Sorry lol I meant fast forward
Apollo is super light for espresso imo
Dang i cannot remember which ones I've gotten. I wonder if that is one ive tried.
But yeah, I'll have to revisit! Haha
CCC had a big presence maybe 10-15 years ago in Atlanta. I think the popular espresso option was called Big trouble
They helped pave the way for third wave shops in Atlanta. All shops used to serve CC cause they were the dominant wholesaler
They also seem like a great biz/group of folks, tooāthough I've only ever visited while in-transit to places, so have no real concrete evidence/interactions to back this up (sometimes the pig is just heavily makeup'd). Certainly haven't had a bad drink from their shop. Interested to know what beans/roast you picked up for the 'lighter side of medium' ā I think I've generally thought of them as solidly medium, but for the eths and naturals I copped from them (for spro) that was perfectly pleasing.
Is that who had their lab on the Westside?
@jaunty ice what have you done to that in poor person in the soup kitchen lol
I think little tart still serves (counter culture I assume?)
I'll tell u wat, they defo still serve a mean espresso martini (yes, still counter culture last I was there)
I had a Sebastian Ramirez Pink Bourbon filter shot 10oz. I asked for whatever their lightest offerings were and it was either this or their Kenyan.
Yes, they left but now they have a training lab here somewhere
Yeah ok back in like the 2016 when we first moved I did some cuppings there and got to play with all their fun gear
Awesome strawberry co ferment from Gilly
Wonderful as a milk drink
Still need to check out their cafe
This makes sense.
Valorās middle child is usually solid
Donāt think Iāve seen that method used anywhere else Iāve been to
Ya I had the ācoffee shotā
Tbh, I didnāt read the descriptions just asked for a PO and they recommended this so I said ok
yeah, they used to do PO but on their podcast they said it took too long
Been having a kick for minimalist art as of late
Ya seems to be consistent with most cafes removing or not doing PO
Sweet. What eq do you guys use
Eq? Like speakers?
@jaunty ice how loud is the Femobook A4Z
Not loud at all IMO
Not loud. Itās not silent but neither are hand grinders
You can maintain a conversation over it pretty easily.
Oh no sorry like espresso machine grinder etc in the photo
Like equipment
Ahh
Espresso machine is a la marzocco linea pb
Grinder is an Anfim Scody II
30 or 40 lb tamper (awful)
Iām completely obsessed with the Gabi right now
I feel like it is incapable of making a bad cup
What recipe are you using???
This is the way
Basically exactly what I said to Mike a while back on insta
Been trying to lower my caffeine intake so Iāve been using the Gabi more and Iām truly in love with it
For 15g you can also try 50g bloom, second 50g bloom at 30. Then the 150.
Ohh Iāll def try that
Iāll give this a try too!
For any new Gabi users, the bloom(s) is direct pouring on the coffee. Then you put the water tank/dispersion screen on and tarÄ it before the 150g pour.
I do 0:20, 0:40, but figured since you do 1:00, you would just split it up
So like I do my bloom and then at 40 seconds out on the screen / tank and do my pour into it assuming it takes around 20 seconds for the water to go through and hit the bed
Pour 50g.
At 20s, pour 50g again.
Put screen/tank on.
At 40s, pour 150g.
Ordered a gabi and some Xbloom filters
Currently drinking a cup from the ratio 4. Itās pretty good, surprised itās not widely recommended.
I must ignore all this Gabi talk
I think it used to be popular donāt remember what happened
I can find a few faults (main one being the button) but man this thing is relatively cheap and easy to deal with.
I think I remember the ratio six* had a poor carafe? Didnāt know they made a four and eight
Six design is weird. Eight is nice looking but expensive for what it is
Iām going to look up the hario model thatās sold in the us I was originally gonna get that bad boy
Brother and I met up with an old friend in Sac and found out heās using a moccamaster. My brother then talked about setting up a timer automatic brew for the morning. Was surprised how limited the options are. I thought for sure this was something the Xbloom could do but apparently not.
Itās pretty great. My only gripe is the plastic seems flimsy
āGabi Master A is made from a high-performance plastic called PC1220R (a grade of Polycarbonate). The manufacturer and retailers explicitly state that this material is safe, heat-resistant, and BPA-free, often comparing it to the high-quality plastic used in baby bottles.ā
I guess that makes me feel better
Baby bottle plastic. Got it.
Have a Ratio Six in storage that I still need to sell (Aiden ++).
Biggest complaint (per my SO) is that the carafe and filter all sit together in one stack. No convenient way to "pull out the carafe" - have to set the filter down. Then once you throw a lid on the carafe (was a good, strong thermal carafe FWIW), now there's no way to have that stack on the machine, so your filter (and the little plastic plate they had to make to solve this problem) are just sitting wherever there's space on a counter/on top of the machine/etc.
I think it brews great pot o' coffee otherwise, though I'd say (spoiled by Aiden) it might brew too hot for a wider spectrum of use.
Wait the xbloom canāt turn on with a timer?
How annoying
I donāt think so. I donāt own one but used Google to see. I think the Aiden was the only one that could do auto brew in the morning.
the Oxo brewer can do timer
but (my complaint) it brews cold as fuck for some reason "BUT WE'RE SCA CERTIFIED"
lol
They updated the ratio 4 after I bought it so it should be harder to trigger a brew with an accidental button press
This one is destined for my FIL but Iām tempted to pick one up for myself.
The other thing thatās nice is you can use your own dripper though Iām really appreciating the built in one
it seemed to me the oxo 9cup was trying to take a lot of the goods from the ratio brewers/showerhead machines, design-wise, so if you really just want a batch brewer (and a timer), but don't want to spend Aiden $$$ (understandable), worth a look. Maybe they've improved temp issues.
Yeah if the Six could've just done this, I would've used it myself (and kept it)
If they update the Aiden or release like a "premium" model or even just update the carafe, it'd be the best, hands down. I could live the with crummy screen if my carafe was better sealed for temps. Or if the build didn't feel so brittle/plasticky
Going to be roasting with Rob again. Wish me luck that I can keep up
Redesign with better material and the screen is smaller and shaped like a spiral instead of a circle
Who is Rob?
y'know, just... remake the whole thing, ez.
Coffee roasting is complicated, but it doesn't have to be hard. My name is Rob Hoos and I am an author, educator, consultant, and mentor for Specialty Coffee Roasting. I've built books, tools, communities, and opportunities to teach you how to roast coffee, troubleshoot your profiles, and get the fl
Lol @nova wadi how you feel about green
@jaunty ice you made the news! https://www.wsbtv.com/news/local/driver-fights-court-get-1000-school-bus-violation-dismissed/6WAWIFPUTJBLLLK4XBG3T46NYA/
Ah yeah. I passed three schoolbuses that week which is super unusual but the one that got me was fair and square it was just seven lanes away on the other side of Peachtree and I didnāt see it in time and then contemplated whether I would be getting a $250 fine or not.
Then the $1000 fine hit me in the mail
Ugh
Itās my fault for waking up early. Iāll try to be more careful, do more from home while brewing coffee until the caffeine jitters bounce me out of the house
No timer. It is designed for either pouring your own beans into the hopper or using their pod. You could set all of that up and start it via the app from bed. I would not trust it to operate on its own though. I owned an xbloom from Dec. 2024-June 2025.
In the end, the beans have to be manually pour the beans into the grinder regardless.
I ultimately sold it to return to manual PO. I felt limited by the 3.0-3.5 ml flow rate.
I guess lol
Worst part about using a BBE grinder is that you can step down one unit and choke your machine, or step up one unit and make a turbo shot
Yeesh
Love it! Greens my favorite color
I often find myself grinding one unit coarser and lowing water temp to mimic a half step coarser
Flying to Boston tomorrow and Iām super tempted to pack my Gabi lol
Are you planning to buy a separate grinder
I know a guy that likes green
Anyone want (for free) the remainder of my Onyx advent beans? A good 25g plus in most of the 24 bags
Nah but Iām gonna try to alterthe OPV on my machine to see if it softens my grinder woes
šµāš«
Why don't you want them??
Dialing in 24 coffees sounds exhausting.
OPV adj should be here if I remember correctly
What about getting a step down basket? It gives you a bigger sweet spot for dialing in IMO
Howās the taste profile? Is it more blended?
Yah I got it. Zip tie was a bitch to get off
What is your OPV set to now? I will day dropping to 6 bar will make things weird on the Breville. I did it on the dual boiler
Ok. I dropped mine to 6 bar but realistically I never pulled more than 3 bar shots
Overall I would say this machine does not like being set to 6 bar
I loosened the valve all the way, but left some buffer room for any adjustment that may unintentionally happen
I do find I can grind a lot finer a lot more safely
14 bar liked to punish me for any slight disconformity in puck prep
14 bar machine was trying to push the whole coffee puck into the cup.
100% extraction
Yeah. I have a basket with wider holes and it would like to slam insoluble fines into the holes
Might as well eat a coffee puck with a spoon at that point
For me it's more body, sweeter, less astringency. I can grind a lot coarser. And it's more forgiving when dialing in.
Lol. Im just joking. But itās nuts that it was set that high. Mine went to 10 bar from factory
Interesting
Step down is nice for that and you MAY get to use less coffee per shot
I can usually get my espresso to pull in the correct time within 1 trial shot. Before it was easily 2 or 3
I guess thatās Decent.

I think the pressure is set so high so you can use the pressurized baskets without choking the machine
Not sure why the pressurized baskets exist. Maybe for people who are using pre-ground slop? Dunno
Yes exactly
Bustelo baby
Obviously never had the superior taste of Folgers Black Silk Espresso
A lot of my Spanish friends swear by it or they have some similar one they get.
But they make essentially cortados with sugar but whipped? Cortadito. Moka pot coffee, then whip/whisk the coffee with brown sugar and milk in some special fashion to make it delicious and I guess itās robusta bc it has you way more wired
But itās different with they whip it with brown sugar and milk. Like whipping eggs with a fork in a bowl
Just have a lot of other coffee atm. Could vacuum seal and freeze it all i suppose
My Miami branch has a Cuban that made something like this in the tiny cups at 2pm. I was like, "this is solid! Let me have another!" Couldn't sleep until 1am
But sharing allows you to buy more coffee. Ultimate cheat code.
Yes exactly
All of these friends are from Miami
Tiny little cup of crack
For real
Yeaaaaah I don't know how they can just drink it casually in the afternoon like that. Although they will milk a tiny cup for awhile.
But give me a guava and cream cheese turnover, along with one of those little coffees and I'm gooooooood.
See posts, photos and more on Facebook.
Okay which one of you is this?
Tbh I have no idea. I guess drinks later in the day
I wanted to do one before but decided I had too many projects
Iāve heard great things. Itās came a long way too. Was way harder in the beginning to source everything
Wow
This was on christmas day
Ive heard so many people get new toys and put stuff up for sale. I mean look at it! 33 minutes! Maybe it was one of those pending scams though. "Send me money now and I'll hold it for you!" I didn't even ask.
I'm just waiting for someone selling their dead uncle's EK43 for $100
I got my Ditting for $450 given its well loved but itās still a steal
Hey! Can't go wrong there.
In a little shocked at how much of a difference abaca filters make on V60s
Picked some up after yall were talking about them and made two incredible brews this morning with them
Maybe itās in my head but I feel like they are my best V60s in a while
Love it when my shots of espresso are in solid form š
Ugh me too
Ha I'm going for that for a leica. Ugh vintage cameras doesn't even have autofocus. $50
Damn I keep missing the shoebox garage sale. I got a bag for holiday present but I'm really wanting to try one sooner lol
Miguel Estela is pretty good
Companies have realized they can increase prices and get away with it
Underlying cost has increased- labor, production, shipping, tariffs
Esp after COVID the biggest companies did and it all trickled down and everyone had to raise to survive
Anything in particular that is too expensive?
Mine is housing.
Hoping the market turns a bit in NE ATL.
Housing is expensive in ATL because 3 companies own the majority of Atlantas starter homes. Something like 40,000 houses are owned and rented out by just those 3 companies. So they set the tone for rent, and purchase price. This hurts all other apartments and home pricing in other price brackets too.
Such a damn shame
It really is
High demand good school district neighborhoods people are still offering 50-100K on top of house prices and still being outbid
Have you guys ever seen the jokes of people intentionally shooting guns outside their house every month to keep the rent down
Some of my employees joke about it that live near the airport suburbs with a lot of gentrification going on. I would not be surprised if some partake. š¤·āāļø
This makes sense....
Several of the neighborhoods I am looking at have rental caps or outright bans, and I know those rules mean well, but they only keep honest people honest. The cost of houses are still just nuts.
It really is.
I have been trying to dial in my Aiden for large 1500ml batches⦠Keep getting lower extraction and blendy muddy flavors. Decided to make a PO to confirm if it was this batch of coffee well PO was great.
Coffee is so weird
Turned out I forgot I was using the Ode with stock burrs now to dial in the Aiden. Before I was using the Ode with SSP MP burrs
To make matters worse PO test was probably the Weber or ZP6.
Too many toys
I hope these batches are business related and not personal consumption.
Or the next coffee meetup will be an intervention.
Are you working a lot of catering/coffee cart events?
Business testing
Nice!
No, but I have one coming up for about 60 people that will be live PO and a self serve batch coffee station
Iām going to put the Aiden with the Ode on the self serve station to show people a home approachable setup
Thanks
I should put a price tag on it. For $999 you get an Aiden, Ode and 2 bags of coffee per month
For how long though?
Do you offer larger bags? I see your Shop profile has two SKUs. Is there another website you sell on?
Thereās a local Bloomberg columnist (I think Brookhaven/chamblee) named Conor Sen who writes about housing. There is some expectation for supply to continue to increase. Not clear if there will be a big price drop or just cost decrease relative to inflation.
Oohh I will look them up! Thanks!
Bloomberg columns require a subscription (and itās expensive!) but he posts regularly on social media with a focus on housing, Econ, sports, elections.
Sorry it was a joke on a whim. I am not prepared for subscription model.
However, I meant coffees for a whole year. So like 2x 100 bags each month and the Aiden and Ode. Thought it was a solid deal
That is a solid deal though
Agree
Selling accessories, equipment, and merch has different rules around collecting sales tax so thatās why I wasnāt going to get into it yet
pfft, just don't pay taxes
EZ
yeah, they flow faster and allow more "stuff" thru . IMO more yummy but honestly if its placebo , its a dang good one so ill pay the extra 4 or something dollars for arguably better filters
Then how will the White House make tik toks
That makes sense to me. Unless I just absolutely nailed those V60s yesterday, I definitely felt like there was a difference
Iām using T90s but the SS metal v60 flows so fast that maybe I should try something slower
I used to get Abacas but they went out on Amazon so I switched back to the regular tabbed Harios per Max at Shoeys recommendation. Honestly havenāt noticed that much of a difference? But I havenāt done a side by side
Totally possible that I just nailed those V60s yesterday. Iām something of a barista myself
I always mained abaca because it was 2-day delivery. It was $10 in the spring. Typiscally jumps to $11.50 in the summer/ fall. $12.50 in the winter.
Long as I have time to wait, those xbloom conicals on Amazon are always $10.
Itās funny I got the xblooms from Williams Sonoma but theyāre being fulfilled / shipped from XBloom itself
I noticed that too
Same here!! I get mine delivered today
I scored some green Aida Battle washed Kenya Process yesterday. I really enjoyed her coffee last harvest and had to buy blind this year so fingers crossed š¤
Oh shit!
Just got these bad boys in
Anyone know a good place to get saka crema bar around here?
This is where I will buy it eventually. I want to give it a shot
Have you had it yet??
Nope, but Iāve heard great things from all the baristas I know
I donāt think my breville appreciates being at 9 bar, gonna stick it up to 11 or something
Itās making scary noises
May your flows forever be fast
Let us know what you think if you buy it!
How long y'all resting shoebox?
Per Maxs recommendation, you can drink before 21 days and then any time after 30 days but peak flavor typically between 45-60 days
Iāve had Saka from Catina but I believe I had whichever one was 100% arabica. The crema bar is mixed with robusta. I did the pre order option to get whatever will be there most recent batch. It was solid. It is dark baby dark so if that thiccc syrupy shot is not what you want - avoid
Do not drink between 21-30. I did not knowing. Boy was it terrible
I'm not always in the mood for dark roast, but when i am and I pull a nice 1:1, mmmmmm it touches my soul a little. š¤¤
That sounds solid
At the time I did 1:2 on Saka, but you have to pull it under 25 seconds like 20-23
The typical 18/36 in 30 is not for something that dark.
I be drinking Shoebox 80+ days off roast and it still slaps
(Totally not because I have a massive irresponsible backlog)
Max has said that shoebox roasts taste amazing at 80+ days so Iām not shocked by that.
My backlog hasnāt been irresponsible enough to make my shoebox coffees last to 80 days but I fear that is changing š
I know shoebox is good to rest long times so I will open up other stuff
I think thatās totally fair. Iām drinking some of my stuff thatās that old and it tastes great it almost seems easier to brew too
Y'all making me even more pissed I missed that garage sale
Y'all been too recuerdos?
