Had to label for the MIL, and she still wouldn't even make the coffee herself during her visit [and she owns/uses a XB at home]
She uses the Azeo cards though and never changes/adjusts a single thing
That’s funny
I’m gonna run out of coffee so soon. I still haven’t tried PERC Up I’m scared
If anyone in the FL area is interested in a Londinium R24 or Timemore 078, let me know. I can bring either/both to the meet up if someone's interested in them
Could possibly be interested in a F58 <-> R24 related trade
What are you thinking for the 078?
I’m interested but on a tight budget. I’d have to sell some gear 🤣
Speaking of selling some gear, I have a tamping station (photo) and weber moonraker if anyone is interested.
It's in buy/sell for $620 shipped - definitely worth a convo though if you're anywhere in the vicinity
I [myself] got a great deal on the R24, so if anyone is seriously interested, I'm not necessarily shooting for the stars lol
Want it back? 😆
Anyone interested in the Pietro w/ base and both burrs? Planned to list for sale later next week
Whatcha thinking for list price?
$475
chat
chat
what are we doing at the meetup
what should i bring?
About $4,300. In small bills please
remove a couple zeroes
I'm stoked about trying some gear and drinking some good coffee but just as stoked to just chat coffee and be surrounded by people who are enthusiast ish as myself
Obviously a very small niche thing at the level we are all into it so it'll be nice to just have similar company because that rarely happens
That was meant as a reply to @plucky imp as to what we are doing
We’d love to have you! Details are here in the spreadsheet as is a running list of what attendees plan to bring
Ah looks like you found it!
well i put all that stuff in there just because i have it
but is there any recommended thing i should bring
like my spro machine?
i can bring it
but if everyone else is also bringing their machine i dont have to
but i can regardless if it's something to talk about
and mess around with
You can bring whatever you want pretty much. I haven’t entered anything in the sheet, I feel like everyone’s already bringing whatever I have 😂😂 not that there can’t be duplicates
Def bring a glass and if you have a carafe it could be helpful
worst case scenario i leave it in my car
rn im setting up my smart plug
All of the home roast I'm bringing to the meet is finished and resting. I took it a little more seriously this time and I roasted several dozen batches between profile development on older green, profiling these ones, and then the finalized roasts.
The Kamagogo I'm particularly proud of. Assuming it ages well, it is up there with some of my favorite coffees I've ever had let alone my own roasts. I managed to get the goldilocks perfect roast on it but only have 1 dialed in roast since I only ordered 1 pound of it. I might split it up into 6 15g samples rather than 3 30g so more people can try it.
The Kinini I had 2 different but good roasts of. One a hair darker than intended one a bit lighter but both good in their own way but that's why there is two different labels.
I might also bring a couple other one-off roasts of older green if they have anything good going for them.
On a side note, @limber stag do we have any more food plans this time?
My Wife can make some more baked goods again. It seems like we'll get a big turn out so she can make a couple dozen muffins or something like that. Maybe I can make a poll on flavors or something.
I think we mentioned possibly doing lunch or something too? Maybe people can pitch in and we can get something catered. Last time we went into the afternoon and all (at least me lol) left hungry and highly caffeinated lol.
Love the baked goods idea! It was a hit last time. Pizza maybe easiest but def open to more elaborate options if others are so inclined!
Def down for pizza with my coffee bros
Agreed, pizza is probably easy the easiest option. Could also do pub sub platter or something like that too although not sure they have a vegetarian if anyone is concerned about that. If I was vegetarian I would probably prefer a cheese pizza over a meatless sub lol.
I’m not a vegetarian but I prefer cheese pizza to subs haha
pizza better for the crowd

Chicken and rice 🤓
You know it
Wait, so you’re joining us?!
I'm vegan but I'm not expecting anything, being the only vegan there I assume I wouldn't want to sway anything foodwise, I'll bring some stuff for myself
Can I add to that link some stuff I'm bringing ?
The Google doc I mean
Definitely
I know this is a weird, longshot but if anyone has a brass/gold La Pavoni [preferably Pre-mill] and is looking to upgrade to a big lever [Londinium R24] at the meet up, reach out to me
ETA: doesn't have to be in good shape fwiw
I have a late model chrome pre-mill in pretty decent shape going up for sale soon
If you're open to chrome, that is
I'm stuck on Brass this time haha
Don't even care if it works tbh
They're practically indestructible
Resident coffee in gville is good. They use 98 brew for filter. Roast is still American light, but solid
I need to get out there to check out the new space
Just generally great people as well. Owners are rad people 🙂
Hey all, been slacking on keeping up with the meetup. I saw the google sheet and am feeling like my gear pales in comparison. What should I bring? What is needed?
No sweat! Beans 🫘, a cup
Can definitely do that! Should I bring extra cups? I have some regular fellow cups (10/12 oz) and some espresso/cortado sized cups.
I can also snag some bakery goods from Buttermilk Bakery is that's desired? They are very good.
Oh also, is the location chosen? I saw an address on that google sheet, not sure if that was for last time or not.
@fossil canopy do you think you could bring your R24 to the meetup ? Or is that a huge ask. I’m dying to try one
No worries if not. Totally understand
He has a Strega, but bhfp and I have R24s
I think bhfp lives much closer than I do, so maybe he can be convinced 😉
☺️
I'm about 1.5hr drive and wife wants to go to Disney afterwards haha so I'd prefer not to leave it in my car
Ohhh no worries!
I live near universal. You can leave it at my apt. Permanently jk
I’d like to try the strega too tho
I’ve only ever used a flair 58 lever and I’m debating buying a actual machine
I've been debating selling mine, but can't decide because it's so nice to use
Have to make space for the Peppina this weekend lol
I regret selling my Argos pre order last year. I would have it by now
I can still bring my Strega if @limber stag doesn't bring his R24. I don't thing we need multiple spring levers though.
Pretty similar overall to the Londinium. Other than general dimensions I think the biggest differences are the Rotary + digital controller and the thermosiphon on the londonium.
Watch, there'll be 5 big SL there and we'll blow all the circuits
That’s cool. I totally understand. I think the Strega would fit on my husky tool bench coffee bar better probably
It is 18 inches deep
Yeah I think it's taller and more shallow than the R24. Downside is it's easier to tip over a bit lol. It's not a worry since I removed the inner spring though.
Yeah, I would like to try it out so if you could bring it, that would be amazing. But I totally get it if you can’t, no pressure!
There’s a chance I’ll be able to bring the LR24. I should have access to the key the night before @fossil canopy @safe bison if you want to drop stuff off and/or set up in advance. Depending, I maybe able to lug some of my heavier equipment
It’d be cool to get representation from 64, 80 and 98 mm burrs.
I planned on bringing the zerno and then maybe the casa too unless someone else has a big conical.
Might still bring the Strega since I have the 49mm + low pressure to differentiate maybe? Been liking soup a ton with it the last few days
I’m brining my Zerno too. I have blind HU in it now but I also have blind MP we can quickly throw in
I only have umv1 in there so that's a nice foil to the HU. I actually wouldn't mind comparing your Z1 with HU and the lagom casa for more trad espresso.
When my Z2 comes in I'll be using it for filter with ULF and the casa or Z1 with HU for milk drinks/boomer spro and selling the other.
Z2!! Nice!!
So hype, a few of the QOL changes seem like they'll be nice maybe the burrs will be better who knows. Hard to improve on the Z1 though. The only issues there really were have been improved. I think some of the improvements are coming back into the Z1 at some point and will be able to retrofit.
What to eat during meetup?

@limber stag do v60 filters fit in your funnex?
yep just need to fold em

I have some Amazon credit and trying to find something fun
It’s funnex or oxo rapid or something else…

Don't have access to buy/sell, whatchu offloading? 🤣
Does anyone coming to the meetup either have extra or want to split an order (I can place) for potassium citrate and calcium citrate?
@limber stag if you cover a few dollars for shipping, I can send you some calcium citrate
As long as it arrives on time
gladly! fantastic and thank you, and it's no rush
Damn I would but I just bought some calcium citrate
Gonna make some calcium citrate/calcium carbonate water
do you have extra? 🙂
i just ordered potassium citrate
I ordered 1lb of it, I can break ya off some at the meet if you want
I have a bunch I can bring to the meetup as well. I have moved to just using Aviary emperical water (lazy AF)
I’m also in the lazy club. Currently using TWW lol
basically most of this. Also have some TWW dark and medium to give away
There is a science joke in here that I am not sure people gonna get 🙁
@limber stag What is your experiences with citrate so far? I have yet to dabble with it
You are correct, I don't get 😂
More than happy to take the powders off your hands!
I haven’t dabbled with them much. I just use lotus drops when lazy but usually do baking soda and epsom salt. I’ve heard good things about citrates and figured that was in lotus but prob should’ve checked that first
Lotus uses magnesium chloride, calcium chloride, sodium bicarbonate and potassium bicarbonate so no citrates.
As far as I know, only TWW uses citrate
Not the first time I've heard that.
Well... We do live in Florida
@upper basin are you in the FL thread?
Im here!
Anyone interested in a green barista robot? Found someone willing to ship one from WA for $300+ shipping
(mostly if you’re coming to meetup)
The robot manual machine?
Finally made it over to Bad Mother in St. Pete this morning and am caffeinated to the nines after an espresso, cortado, and pour over… had to try everything while I was there lmao. Also grabbed this coffee from DAK, super excited to try it
I'm in the Netherlands and was able to visit the DAK Showroom in Amsterdam
Nice!
Bad mother is nice, I think their pours overs are just immersion which I don't love but good cups none the less
Yeah it was all pretty good
It was nice to see a coffee shop that used specialty and was knowledgable about the coffee. I asked the barista about the coffee and he explained exactly how it was processed step-by-step, very cool
Yea
No I have a lead on another
I live in Tallahassee. Started down the rabbit hole two years ago. I would like to somehow get a good community going. If you live in Tallahassee or know someone who is, get in touch. Thanks!
That would be me!
You are not in FSU, aren't you?
Not in FSU. Graduated from there before internet. Catch you later 🙂
That's ironic, I was just there on monday. My wife and I shared a cortado, americano, and a Golden Hour on pour-over. My wife really loved the coffees, especially the Golden Hour.
I've got mixed feelings, unsurprisingly. The Americano was a really really long ratio, i honestly dont think ive evered been served that large a americano before. The Golden Hour, which is a thermal shock was suprisingly muted(which is explained by the immersion), and the cortado was fine. One of the better coffee shop experiences I've had, but there is always that disappointment of how amazing those coffees would have been if I'd brewed them myself.
Aw, yeah that’s always tough
I don’t remember exactly what pour over I had (some sort of geisha) but it was a very different taste profile than what I drink at home/work so I don’t really know if it was “good” 😂😂 but I’ll be back for sure. It’s probably the best coffee shop I’ve been to even if it’s not 10/10 if that makes sense
It's a really good shop, immersion vs percolation is just a preference thing
It's a repeatability choice. The idea was to pair it with coffees that are fine around 19-21% extraction. Relatively coarse grind due to grinder constraints (Guatemala)
i'm headed over to Seminole and have packed my trusty ZP6 and ORB. Forecast of a coffee detour with a slight chance (5%) of Bad Mother. Are there any other cafes worth checking out?
Hi friend, welcome to my hood!
Bad Mother, Elevenses (in Tampa on your way), LPCX (up north in Tampa, on your way), Daycation (sweet treat and excellent hospitality), Intermezzo (Kyoto Tower), and Paradecco (Instagram photo, no coffee)
Thank you! 🙏
Got all of the home roast samples labeled and packaged up last night. They've already been resting several weeks so should be close(r) to their peak at the meet.
Label game is
Excited to try the latest!
Thanks for putting in the work
Hey y'all! Any friends down here in SWFL who'd want to grab a cup/have any recommendations on where to go?
Hey guys, sorry if I missed this, but do we have an address for the meet up?
yes, 3rd tab in the signup spreadsheet!
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/10791mf2WkiZ7MBhShFPSvUcGQPOyi4cTNeLUf9bHMzg/edit?gid=1404812629#gid=1404812629
who's getting stoked? this guy
get your L-theanine ready folks
Might help to add the date/time to the spreadsheet lol
Great catch!
Date, time and address are in 3rd tab.
I really like the empirical water stuff, but just did the math before re ordering and it's tough
Where have you seen the aviary recipe? Empirical lists the mineral composition, https://empiricalwater.com/pages/mineral-composition. You won't get any calcium or chlorides from epsom salt and baking soda so I believe it has calcium chloride in it.
However, in the recipe page Arby talks about an Aviary hardness and buffer and lists several recipes. The mineral composition represents one recipe but I haven't seen where he disclosed how much hardness and buffer results in that recipe.
For glacial and spring he specifies the mineral composition are for the general coffee and tea recipes, but there's no similar note on the Aviary one.
This is the recipe for a gallon that creates the mineral composition he listed if that helps:
Note this is using calcium chloride dihydrate
My spreadsheet is saying Aviary Coffee [as Empirical], not homemade
There's the Aviary recipe from Christopher's site though
The "homemade water" was just to get a vibe check on the costs - it assumes the highest amounts needed per gallon from the water calculator
If you wanted to buy for the recipe, NaHCO3 is around $14/8oz on Amazon and NaCL2 is around $5/lb from home brewing sources
Looks like Arby's is a little different. I scaled up Christopher's concentrate to match the epsom salt and calcium chloride anhydrous matches but baking soda is off a little:
tbh this might as well be hieroglyphics to me lol
Just putting my toes in the water at the moment
In your screenshot he mentioned calcium chloride. He used anhydrous but that is a lot more hygroscopic than dihydrate.
Oh sorry. If you click on the empirical link you'll see this:
My screenshots match that
I meant a generic that I'm ||talking out of my ass. I didn't fail my chem classes, but I'm not a chemist for reasons :D||
Let us know how it tastes
I'm probably not emulating Aviary water tbf
Because I'm just starting with epsom/baking soda
Fun to play around with. Enjoy
Now you've got me thinking I need to buy some CaCL2 lol
Can't figure out how to make the link less ugly
I know @clever thistle offered to bring some compounds too
I've been doing epsom + baking soda for about a year w/ good results
Haha I Yolo'd it
I've become used to Aviary water, so it seems I should probably try to replicate
def lmk what recipe you're playing with and how it goes, been doing 70/20 'holy water' approximation
water table here you come
Empirical Water Aviary for PO
TWW Espresso 1/2 strength for Spro
That's my current setup - we'll see how it evolves
Dihydrate absorbs less water but recipe you shared was anhydrous
Yeah, that listing/product container doesn't specify
do you have your time in there? I don't see the hourly rate 😛
I am going to bring some stuff with me, BHFP claimed it but there is A LOT so I am sure sharing is fine. You need SO little.
Just gonna bring my whole resting shelf ;-). Think it pretty much all hits 4+ weeks next week sometime
Couple sneaky Thankfully Kenyas 😉
Becomes even cheaper if you buy the 5gallon TWW sticks
I dilute those in 500mls
Keep it in the fridge, and does 33mls per gallon of zero water for 1/3 strength
I have to mix the others too lol it's just a slight difference b/w what I'm weighing
Still have to measure the EW
Have to mix the TWW in a larger jug [can't do 1 gallon at a time to my liking]
This could work for me tbh - only just learned about the 5 gallon sticks today though when I looked up the price to place an order [and decided to go DIY]
I did the baking soda and epsom salt for a while, then lotus drops for a while
So far the diluted 5G sticks seems the best option to me workflow wise
Measuring out 33mls of liquid
Is much easier than weighing tenths of a gram of powder
Or counting out 60 drops of whatever for that matter
I've found Aviary to be pretty easy for me now. I have a 1L bottle I refill to 989.5ml (ish) then 10ml hardness .5ml buffer. I like that it's on demand where TWW is not.
Salts are going to take time to dissolve and...
I sometimes make 5-gal jugs for events and I just use 2- 1gal TWW packs and that is a pretty good dilution. Ends up like 70~ppm
this is interesting, need to look into this. still have 1 set of lotus drops from last year black friday (i think?) but still just make my own water out of habit
does the 33mL go into 1 gal? then what's the GH KH?
same question - what's the volume of the concentrate?
@crisp oxide what minerals did you end up ordering ?
CaCl2 [for aviary]
Epsom [generic/general]
Baking soda [general/Aviary]
My water is those two minerals and potassium chloride, I go 60/18.
I do 40 of GH from magnesium sulfate, and 20 GH from calcium chloride. 18 KH from potassium bicarb
Give it a go if ya want, I play with water quite a bit, having a hard time coming up with anything I prefer more than that
I'm starting off super simple haha
Gonna try some holy water/general recipes from the calculator and also replicate Aviary since that's what I've been liking/used to
I know these compounds by name, but get lost in the letters tbh... Got the 3 things coming and might branch out if something doesn't quite line up for my taste
It's basically holy water with a little less KH
But a better balance of chlorides to sulfates in my opinion
So the full workflow is:
Dilute one 5 gallon stick into a container with 500ml of zero/distilled water.
Then when you want to make water, fill an empty gallon container with one gallon of zero/distilled water, and then I dose 33mls from the concentrate into the gallon to get 1/3 strength third wave water. Or if you wanted full strength then do 100ml
I like that you dont really need to be that precise given the quantities and can just use a typical .1 grame scale rather than a drug dealer one where the AC current might affect your measurement etc
Ah nice! Seems convenient and i know lots of folks seem to like the TWW
full strength TWW is supposed to be about GH 180, KH 55, so youd be around 60/18 at 1/3
Looks like I might be making it to the meetup 👀
Does anyone coming to the meetup have the graph step down basket?
I’m particularly interested in trying it because it will likely fit in the stock LR24 bottomless PF (47.25mm aperature) unlike the sworks 58-49mm step down
Nope! Planning to bring my step-down basket + tamper to the meet up in case anyone wanted to try it out though
Definitely doesn't fit stock pf
https://discord.com/channels/726985544038612993/1405166811795951751
I posted before, but in case anyone's interested in upgrading their setup/machine, send me a chat! If we can work something out, I can bring it to the meet up
Bringing some Aviary 016 to the meet up in case anyone was interested in trying it just as fyi
I used this site for making my water, and im loving the work flow and results. Super easy and I can make 2-3 1 gallon jugs in just a few minutes.
https://awasteof.coffee/how-to/mixing-water/
I labeled the jugs with the recipe to make the concentrates, and 1 label for the mix. Then I just use a syringe to apply to the gallon of distilled.
What do you have available? Can't see the channel

Ah, I love levers but I prefer boilers-less platforms.
Wife just sent me this if anyone was interested, figured I'd pass it on to the group
https://tampabattles.com/tampa/tampa-coffee-battle?fbclid=PAVERDUAMjLpxleHRuA2FlbQIxMAABp8tOt4UpGVxfI6ZASgjrxWdVGCZl-hpITo3WboIjn4UB0dC_mF25FZWdyQKV_aem_r9sbA1uEoy0NiWJkR50yHg
If anyone's wanting to do a cup swap, here's what I have that I'd be open to trading at the meet up [not shipping]
will probably stop by early and drop off some bags of coffee
that would be awesome, any idea what time?
thanks!
imagine i'll be there around 8 but can meetup earlier if needed
This, but will definitely dm you the day before too
ok cool, sounds good
Gonna just miss the timing on shardor Pro brew vs Pietro
@idle gulch are you in this thread? We’re meeting on Saturday in Orlando
I’ve moved up to the Pensacola area, but thanks for the info!
I'm unfortunately not going to be able to make it, super bummed, had some unexpected vet bills and a sick cat to deal with
Oh no!! Hope the kitty is ok!
Thanks! I think she is on her way out but we have had her for 17 years so she has had a good run
I also said that like a year ago and she is still around so 🤷♂️
Sorry to hear it - we’ll miss you and hope to see you at the next one.
My wife is excited an has agreed to make a charcuterie board and bring some banana bread.
Did we plan to do pizza? 🍕 I forgot
I think we had planned to. We might have enough food though already it sounds like lol. My wife settled on her long-proofed cinnamon rolls with cream cheese icing, I think someone is bringing stuff from buttermilk bakery, and now we have banana bread and charcuterie
Also she may do her pretzels that are very tasty too it sounds like
Sample pics
I love cinnamon rolls so much
those look incredible
good morning EAFLers, excited for tomorrow's event!
looks like things are shaping up nicely.
don't forget to bring your favorite cup(s), scales, carafes, etc. and some fun beans if you can.

We will certainly have a nice assortment of drippers and at least a few espresso machines to play with..
Location posted in 3rd tab and we'll likely have soft open for setup at 8am on Saturday with the official opening scheduled to start at 9am. Feel free to DM me with any questions too.
If you have an Oxo Rapid Brewer
, please bring it so we can try to set the national record. || Kilo or bust
... Looking at you @fossil canopy @safe bison
and any others), I have 3 bodies and can bring adapter for Robo basket||
Also, please bring baggies/containers for splits if interested! Carl was GOATed for bringing them last time 🙂
Looking at the spreadsheet, I don’t need to bring my F58 right?
Is anyone else bringing any other levers?
I think @fossil canopy is planning on lugging the Strega and I’ll bring the robot
is she coming too? if we didn't have a kid's birthday party my wife would stay the whole time. she'll prob be there early to help me set up
big stonks
no she's staying home with the kids
she thought about doing Disney, but didn't want to do 2 kids alone
Bring your own milks yall!
Updated the sheet with what I decided to bring. 🙂
On our way in a few min with the fresh baked pretzels and cinnamon rolls!
Sorry I'll miss it this time
Late start for me, be there a little after 10 according to GPS
I’m heading out. Also I should get there around 9:30.
We hope to see you next time!
I plan to be there around 10 or so!
Have fun, getting serious fomo
My ride fell through this morning :( see y’all next time!!!
Work called for me :(
Likewise 💚
Carl is good people
Yooooo! Thanks all, was an excellent time. If people have photos please share, too busy brewing to take em 🤣
I’ll post them here and on IG! Today was so much fun!!
Yea thanks everyone! Appreciate all the knowledge and coffee. Josh you were a machine cranking out coffee. I might try my first soup shots soon.
Chika is glad to have the Zerno back
Looks incredible! I NEED to be at the next one!!
What were the specs on the jumbo oxo experiment again, like coffee per basket lol
70g per basket x6, 1 water chamber and robot basket with 60g
Thanks for making this event so special everyone!
Had a blast and was honored to be able to host the second (ever) quarterly EAFlorida gathering
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention how rested the beans I gave out are.
They are all 30g and ~at 5 weeks of rest. I had planned to do small labels for the back but had a busy week at work.
I'd brew or freeze within the next month or so.
Thanks everyone for coming I had a great time. Hoping we can do it again in a few months. @limber stag thanks for hosting again! I really appreciate all the effort you've put into organizing/hosting.
The cinnamon rolls were so delicious. I ate one at the meetup and brought one home for Amanda but ended up eating the whole thing myself! lol
Lmk how it goes
Pm
Damn these are great pics. It actually makes what we created look legitimate lol
Care if I steal these for an insta story? I’m @rustybrews on there. I’ll tag who I can!
It was... An experience 🤣
Looks like a fun time, I'll be there next year
Thank you, again, @limber stag for being an awesome host.
"Someone take the kettle out of Josh's hand" 🤣
Believe I said it twice and no one could do it!
Both Justin @urban night and I literally got goosebumps after 1 sip
Of course, feel free to use any pictures I posted for anything
@crisp oxide https://www.instagram.com/reel/DNXS_TkoHv4/?igsh=cGh4bW02b2Z1aDR1
I think I took 2 coferm from you
Calico gatas love their Zernos
Sorry, Zerno just shared your story on IG and as soon as I clicked on your profile it was obvious you'd be on EAF 😅
You have a fluffy version of our Luna
Luna is GORGEOUS
Who's cursed idea was this, who do I need to ban?
Learned during our meetup that I'm brewing notably different than all of y'all. What are your go-to general approaches/pour methodologies?
Want to compare to see if I actually prefer my way or not - Mine are notably thinner/lighter than what I was tasting from your brews
V60, T90, Aviary water, Feran V60 method
Or, recently
XBloom [flat bottom, Kalita 155 style XB filters] with "The Bird" Aviary recipe [still using Aviary water]
Pietro in both cases, but I'm brewing very coarse with minimal agitation with both V60 and XBloom recipe
these days I start with a gentle bloom that's 3x the dose and waiting anywhere from 30 to 60s (closed switch, but sometimes do it open), then dividing the rest of the water volume into 3 or 4 more pours depending on the total volume/ratio. typically sticking to a 5 total pour structure (including the bloom in that count) but adapt as the brew proceeds. sometimes i find i need to reduce a pour and agitate more on the penultimate pour and employ a more "zen" approach as for when i do a pour (meaning less focused on time, more on where the water column is relative to the bed) - as the bed is ~0-2cm saturated, begin next pour. typically target 2:30-3:30
switch as v60, abacas, 60/20ish water - used to do a lot of coffee chronicler switch but have been doing a lot more trad v60 pour structure
ratio is usually around 1:16-17
idk if that's helpful
basically will adaptively toggle pour ferocity to slow down brew or use melodrip if i want less agitation
I typically go for higher extraction brew methods and that allows me to back off temperature, grind ratio, etc to find balance rather than feel the need to push things. I feel like it's a more flexible.
However even my v60/bare kettle brews are not too far off intensity wise. I typically get similar extraction as with my sworks and melodrip but need a good bit of agitation to get there. It's a bit of a different profile though. Typically less clean of a finish (from the agitation maybe?) but thinner and Sharper up front.
If I had to guess the coarser + low agitation is what's getting you the light brews. I feel loke most people who grind really coarse are bigger into kettle agitation or have flow control/low bypass like pulsar.
Yeah I'm certainly light brew camp [that's what I've been liking though tbf, not by accident]. I don't do much agitation though [aside from doing 5 pours].
If doing V60 I'm generally around 196-202f
I do the adaptive stuff too I pretty much never pour off timings any more.
Sounds like you're doing what you like then, nothing wrong with that. I was brewing 1:18 for a lot of coffee for a long time and slowly backed off ratio and temp. Then recently started creeping back up in temp again. I'm guessing it mostly has to do with just shift in preference over time.
Like my ratios getting lower definitely coincided with me drinking more espresso again lol
Yeah for sure, all of the brews there were notably different than what I make so I want to try more of what others are liking 😄
I suspect part of my preference comes from the Pietro being my main grinder tbf
I mess around so much it's hard to say but with my Pietro I often go coarse and brew with and without aggitation and just see which prefer, can get light cups out of it either way depending on the grind setting/ratio
Also you can go bigger blooms and finer and get something similar, low ey
Intended to soup/turbo but forgot about the coarseness needed on 45mm and ended up 15:45 in 42s from pietro pro brew
Bright, floral and very nice @fossil canopy
What grind setting on the Pietro
Sometimes those weird shots that "shouldn't" taste good end up working out anyways tbh. I've had 1 min and 5 seconds shots on the same coffee taste great.
Glad you like the coffee! That one was a huge pain to sort and roast but I think I got some good stuff out of it after a bunch of iterations.
That was a 2 with paper filter
Honestly I'd attribute it to the Peppina and low temp. It's pretty hard to get bad results from it since the temp is so controllable and the spring profile is so gentle. Couple that with 45mm and it's amazing how badly things can be out of wack and still turn out great.
I'd say the same for the R24, but it's a long ways away from the forgiveness of the pepp
That's cool, I'm not really familiar with the Peppina, I didn't know it had lower spring pressure.
That's what I noticed with the Strega/spring levers in general probably is they are very forgiving. Technically you could replicated with a direct lever too but that requires not having
.
The 5 seconds vs 1 minute comparison I made was on the Strega. Can't say I've managed to salvage shots that were that far off with my Flair before.
Yeah I'm a spring lever convert for sure
It also doesn't hurt that they look cool and are way more fun to use.

@clever thistle I finally found the chat. 🤣
Good evening all, Orlando here.
Welcome!
I have another Orlando specific DM group if interested in meeting up subregionally before q4 meetup. I know we got quite a few folks here in the central FL/orlando metroplex area
Just give me a thumbs up or DM so I can add you to the chat if interested
I need some more St Pete buddies lol
The Bona Zuria roast I gave out at the meet is starting to open up.
I reccomend a moderately high extration as it's pretty dense. My brew right now has really strong lily and some jasmine and lots of jade oolong. With some more rest and or a shorter ratio the citrus should be more prominent.
Right or wrong, A LOT of the brews at the meetup were me :-).
V60-02, Cafec papers - Abaca, and we were using Aviary Empirical water.
I was brewing almost everything on the Ozik @500 burr gap,
A few of the brews were done with the EK W Titus Brew burrs/carrier which I usually leave around the same
I brewed like 7 different roasters coffees.
I was changing kettle temp based upon processing method and the expected level of roast from the particular roaster, but living in the 89-94 range.
I was not moving grind at all, this is my general approach to brewing when I am using a new grinder (which this one was for me)
I do a pretty standard 4-5 pour recipe and just respond to the brew to see if I can keep my TBT around 2:30-3:10.
Running slow - 4 pour and possibly pull out my drip assist
running fast - force fines migration to slow drawdown
what ratio?
um..... like 15.5-17:1
tighter for more processed and longer for more dense stuff
archers natural was 15.5:1 @90c, for example.
shoebox was 94c like 17~:1
september EL washed falls somewhere in the middle.
Contact time/extraction seems to be the biggest difference to how I brew then
xBloom is set to 202 but I imagine it's actually closer to 198
So 94 ish but faster brews
91-94 is my typical hand pour temp, but most brews are done under 2:30 using feran pour
where I am normally 2:30-3
Pretty much always at 1:17 too. Tighter ratios bolden the cup notably but I don't prefer them that way typically
very coffee/roaster dependent for me.
I think Archers favors a tighter ratio, the expression in the cup feel full
I almost never buy naturals though so it's likely hyper specific to what I normally drink
Pietro + long ratio and clean washed gives me a nice nuanced, bright and tea like cup
the brews can be a bit brutal at those longer ratios, a lot of coffee just doesn't hold up
the Ozik didn't seem as clinical?
Grinds looked like actual bolders at 500um, but behaved not dissimilar in drawdown to a ZP6 at similar agitation levels.
Compared to my normal brewing? Totally different cups lol
It's like comparing a 1:15 and a 1:17 brewed the same way
Yeah more extraction on the 17 but it starts to fade away into thin and watery (not necessarily in a bad way)
Comparatively
I'm mostly brewing home roasts, shoebox, aviary lately so pretty light examples
Sometimes I tangle with needing more rest time, especially for shoebox and my home roasts
I'm typically in the high 7 to low 9 range weight loss by volume
Also assuming not into astringency on the 1:17 and also not under extracted on the 1:15
for sure
I should have gotten there on time and brought my brewing stuff too haha
I suspect my kettle brews differently too. It's just a cheap Amazon one
Come early next time!
Yall and your huge white bags of September
What’s your typical WL
That's a pic I took from the meet up so I could remember what it was haha
Whoever brought it, thanks! Think it might have been @safe bison ?
7.6-9.2 ish
You may be giving @fossil canopy a run for his money on a race to the bottom
Peanut gang
I started roasting because everyone was way too dark for me lol
Aviary is roasty to my palate fwiw
Still like the roasts though, just wish they were a little less developed
This is the WL is for the coffees I brought. WL for a given roast level is very green dependant as most available moisture is lost during drying.
The sumava Gesha for instance is wildy high WL compared to my usual because it's a honey process with more moisture I'd guess and I've had the green a bit in a humid environment. The coffee itself though is pretty light.
The Francisco Giraldo on the other hand is a shade more soluble than I usually go for. Definitely would not call it dark by any means but needed a longer roast as it was a more sensitive coffee to burning and roasting unevenly.
Kenya AA always lose more moisture for me. Not sure why tbh but those are definitely pretty light. I think it may have to do with the bean size/structure and the way it interacts with heat more than moisture but idk.
And then of course super dry hard Washed ethiopian coffees end up with comically low WL. I've had great roasts of Getachew, Bona Zuria , and Layo Teraga all in the 7% range.
Kamagogo - 9.3%
Gititu - 9.4%
Francisco Giraldo Gesha- 9.9%
Alo Bona Zuria- 7.5%
Sumava Gesha - 10.4%
Kinini village (light green) - 8.9%
Kinini village (dark green) 8.4%
Shit I didn't realize I was writing up so much until I hit send sorry lmao
You retain much more info than I do about what I'm doing lol I'm mostly YOLO and FAFO
I tracked things better on the Kaldi Fortis, but only because I used artisan
Yeah I've taken roasting more seriously than brewing or anything else coffee related.
It kinda scratches a technical/problem solving thing in my brain at the same time as the more artistic part or whatever. I have spreadsheets and dozens (100+?) Pages of notes lol. Hundreds of profiles with lots of iterations and I make a new profile for every individual roast often with paragraphs of research, justification references to previous coffees etc.
It's gotten fatiguing though I got worn out doing things to that extent with the dozens of roast required to practice and then profile the coffees I brought lol.
It's nice when I roast like once a week though spend an hour or two being super nerdy for 1 120g roast.
But FAFO is a good portion of roasting and the notes and data are just for repeatability IMO
If FL had better cottage industry laws, you could go for some micro roasting
I'm FAFO(AF) - And Forget
My wife has actually looked into this a few times for some other hobbies and from how it looks you definitely can sell coffee under cottage law. You just can't sold it brewed at a farmers market or wherever. You also can't sell wholesale to cafes.
And then there's nothing saying you can't ship so theoretically I could roast and ship coffee. It just needs to be under some amount of revenue per year and have a label saying it was produced under cottage law not in a certified kitchen.
I might sell my extra coffee at some point as an excuse to try more green who knows lmao. If I ever actually sold for real I'd need to do limited drops and stuff bc my real job has to take much higher priority and I wouldn't want to ruin my love of coffee by making it a source of income.
Ah when I looked at it I found some info suggesting you needed a commercially cleared kitchen as a facility to do the roasting in [requiring an inspection and verification of sanitation/safety etc.] even for roasted coffee. I could have mis-read it though
I ran into that and just said "nope" and stopped looking lol
I read some folks did convert their garages to have the sink/drain/safety requirements for roasting but from what I recall it had specific requirements and an inspection
To be clear though, I only researched the surface and no further when the answer wasn't what I hoped... I am likely to roast and sell [locally at least] when I get up to MI next year though
Looks like it was revised specifically in 2021 to allow online sales and other provisions and does specifically include roasted coffee as cotrage foods which don't need a licensed/inspected facility.
When I look it up half of the stuff that comes up is dated before 2021 though. It seems like there's a lot of uncertain information. Tbh if I had to guess it's not wildy enforced or anything, just gives a legal avenue to sell stuff people were probably selling anyways.
If someone did get questioned by any regulating authorities l about permits you then can show your cottage law compliance and you're good to go I assume.
I enjoyed all the brews at the meetup
Agreed, I felt the same with the first meet too. I was suprised initially because I thought everyone else's preferences might be different enough that I might not like their brews. but well dialed coffee by other enthusiests is good regardless of palate/preferences I guess.
Does anyone need some calcium chloride?
Appreciate ya'll helping me fight the imposter syndrome ;-). Doesn't matter how many people I brew for, still critical of myself.
I am sad there is no more of the ET Ethiopia that was brewed at the meetup tho. That shit was 🔥
Before I consider offers on Facebook, was anyone local interested in the R24? Would prefer someone in the group get a deal than some Facebook random
https://discord.com/channels/726985544038612993/1405166811795951751
I think it was @clever thistle who told me to mix the TWW packet into a half gallon or the other way around?
Probably suggested half strength, so tww packet to 2 gallons
Unless you like meaty coffee $0.02
Or maybe half gallon makes a concentrate for dilution?
Yes this. I would dissolve into a gallon, then split. Ending with around half strength TWW.
y'all got room for one more?
I'm late to the party but I'm ordering a MHW Rain, Eggonaut, and a RapidBrewer.
all thanks to Carl tbh
You could skip the egg tbh, but the rest are goated. Egg works, but kinda more for a fun thing to use time to time
it looked fun lol.. i figured why not
Just now getting into EA Discord and found this - plz include me in (East) Orlando shenanigans
What part of Florida are you in?
For Tampa's favorite coffee person, fuck yes!

@slim ridge you're up in the Ocala area right? We're camping at silver springs and just realized we forgot to bring our coffee LOL
And local recs?
Pretty rough here.. but if you don’t mind some specialty milk drinks try the locations downtown
Mostly looking for whole bean better than Publix
Target for some intelli or blue bottle.
Their takesi last year was one of my favorites
Nice. I have $10 off $25 with Shop
I assume driving an hour to Gainesville is a bit too much?
Haha yeah we'll see what happens. Sonny's did not have whole beans availability, in case anyone didn't know. 😄
It looks like I gave you the worst suggestion ever
Yeah we drove right passed a bit of it on the other side and got off the highway right before getting to it on our side
@clever thistle this Savage Enigma you brought is straight tropical juice lol
It's pretty fun stuff 🤣.
Wonder how bad this V60 will be on this Disney Cruise
Is it also Joffrey's?
I think so
I’m excited to try it
Haha I got a nice latte instead.
The only thing from Joffrey's that I can stomach at Disney is a caramel/hazelnut latte
First and only time I tried cold brew was at Joffreys and I was appalled
Nitro cold brew iirc
appalled?
Speaking of juice... Have I got a cold brew for you to try 😉
Made a little more progress on the garage lolol
Maybe lathe by the end of the year
Same! Mine was basically water with a spritz of “coffee” essence 😏
Stopped by Concord today and picked up a couple bags, cortado, pumpkin spiced latte and a giant cookie
Who is ready for a Q4 meetup:
yes
no
why wait for quarterly meetups
November
December
Cast your votes
Definitely will make it out to the next one, was bummed about missing it
December
I probably can't make either, so I'll refrain from voting hahaha
I’m in for the next one.
Next one should be on the West side
I’m down to host again, we’ve got a fair amount of folks in the central Florida area. Selfishly it dramatically increases my likelihood of attendance
How’s 8am-1p on Saturday dec 13
for yes
for no
@sharp heart @safe bison @clever thistle
@crisp oxide @fossil canopy @slim ridge
@queen prairie @fossil cobalt Hopefully not missing anyone - tag a friend!
Down in palm beach county 🫠
Will probably be able to let you know closer to November
Nooooo I can’t make it on the 13th!!!
I missed the last one but in Central / east Orlando.
Where are you located again?
d’oh It’s not definite yet but leaning that way depending on if we can hit critical mass
Longwood
8am on a Saturday is a bit early for me 😂 but I’m interested in coming out for it!
I figure it’s soft open time for setup etc and the festivities will begin at 9a
Does anyone have a lead on the Core burr set? I created a WTB https://discord.com/channels/726985544038612993/1429619943384547348
One or two of you if I remember correctly had used the Meraki machine - can't remember your thoughts on it?
Nevermind - I thought it had flow profiling lol
My actual birthday, and while this would be a great way to spend it I think my lady made plans for us.
I will be over in Orlando next weekend though at CoffeeFest if anyone is planning on attending 🙂
Unfortunately, it’s limited to businesses only right?
Why aren’t you purple bro?
Primarily B2B yeah, but it's kinda fun as a consumer.
Cause I'm EAF stupid and don't know how to even do that
Where at?? Maybe I’ll come
OC Convention Center
Attend Coffee Fest Orlando 2025 https://share.google/trcAFOPwPMowMoyn8
It's like a brew of TPC after shipping and tariffs. 🤣
Speaking of, my Datura is almost 5 weeks off roast. Just threw them in the freezer. Once the weekend comes I’ll be opening one of them.
Anybody know of any good matcha places around the Tampa/Lutz area?
I need to figure out if I like matcha ASAP and starbucks cannot be my introduction to it lol
You lost me
It's a (bad) joke about matcha tasting like grass 😉
That’s so funny😭😭😭
I ended up trying the matcha at Elevation Coffee Roasters, pretty good
It does kinda taste like grassy tea but there’s definitely some sweetness to it, I’m betting from the steamed milk
Alot of matcha's coffee shops buy have a small amount of sugar premixed in them as well
I think I’m going to check it out. Anyone been to it before?
howdy friends
i downloaded discord for this and disappeared, sorry
@limber stag thanks for the switch boss
Yeah! Ran 3 cuppings between the event and a pre-festival roasters gathering.. we'll be doing more/similar again.
Highly recommend going, especially for consumers/aficionados. Probably one of the few events you'll see as many FL roasters in one place.
Last year was their first one.. had no idea what to expect and it ended up being a huge turnout.
Glad you found/joined us here!
i was confused seeing people on instagram talk about Ethyl Acetate Floridians meeting up until I realized all the ULBs (ultralight bros, my affectionate term) talking about Espresso Aficionados
Any of you guys live in St. Pete or the surrounding areas? I'm moving there in December, wondering what your top picks are
I live downtown St Pete. Bad Mother is the best down here
yeah I've been there a couple of times. definitely a gem. I see that Savage has a pop up, I know they produce super high quality coffee, but I'm not sure how they roast.
I’ve heard Savage is pretty good. I haven’t tried them yet
@clever thistle gave out samples of Savage Enigma at the last EAFlorida meetup.
It was a lot darker than what I usually go for (on the light end of Ultra light usually) but took well to dialing back on extraction and tasted pretty good for the roast level/process despite both not being what I usually reach for.
I appreciate your kind assessment 🤣. Coffee for the masses is often much further developed than what we all drink. For right or wrong, we are not the target market for most coffee
We're also in an interesting position where we sell green and roasted, so we're not trying to eat our partners food 😉
Also in St Pete, mentioned before but
Daycation, Hogg Batch, Bad Mother, and Coffee Concrete are all doing different and fun things worth a visit (I don't mention Savage cause I'm not here to promote my client 🤣). The best cup you will get, will likely be at home though
Does savage have a shop now in St Pete?
Cafe is in process, there is a pop-up trailer outside of it right now. Serving a very limited menu :-).
Ahh gotchu, will check out next time I'm out there

Oh, it's your cart? Cool, will definitely swing by next time I'm out there
@thorn spoke come visit and we can go get savage coffees from @clever thistle
Na, I work closely with the team though.
Sounds like a plan, I'll hit ya up next time I'm out there
Dude that's wild!!!
When did this happen???
In August, went to Portugal for a good friends wedding and lined up a meetup!
I Kamagogo-ed this morning 🤌
Beans is more herbal/floral, Shoebox is a bit more round and balanced, thankfully is sweeter and slightly fruiter. Thankfully had the thicc-est mouthful, Beans the lightest.
There are NO wrong choices here. All pretty excellent. The Apricot is just 👨🍳💋
Kamagogo was definitely light, I wish I had made it a bit more soluble as a normal 4 pour v60 did not work out as nicely as the high extraction sworks/melodrip thing I usually do. A little more juicyness to help those pink/red fruits pop probably would have been ideal.
Awesome green though I wish I bought more of it
I actually loved the herbal/florals still being intact. Shoebox got quite frutier as it cooled, which was fun.
Yeah the very floral/herbal think was fairly intentional as I really liked some of the H&S from early this year that was like that (la papaya mejo and gesha particularly).
However when I went to come up with a v60 recipe that would work with my coffee I couldn't dial it how I wanted lol. Reminded me of how a lot of people would say they struggle to dial H&S when I never had issues with it bc of my setup.
I'm hoping to find a nice balance now and have been working on an updated roast approach. I'd say it's a bit less green/fresh but in exchange more juicy, easier to brew and roast, and similarly light.
I did a fairly standard 1:17 @94c, Titus brew on EK @around 450 gap, V60 with cafec Abaca. Only change coffee to coffee was the Thankfully I brewed @ 93°.
I didn't find your coffee responded quite like some of the H&S I've had, need to be pushed to the extreme (1:18, 95°+, ECT). It rested a WHILE tho, so YMMV
chat do we like soup here in florida
#1228117431889826036 message
what the helly
I've found recent H&S to be a bit more soluble compared to early this year for the most part.
I'd say most of those coffees were pretty insoluble compared to most coffees with 5 minute roast times given the way I approached it but yeah it still should be a step down from most H&S in brewing ease.
Not sure where my current roasts land in that spectrum but I'm getting higher wait loss and bean expansion across the board. Still pretty bright too but presents a bit different. This Gesha came out very Exposure therapy like (too much actually, I want a bit more juicyness and less soft tea).
@plucky imp @narrow coral
sup dawg

help me find
a single dose grinder with clarity and low retention
that doesnt look like shit
and isnt 10 million dollars
What about a Turin CF64V with SSP burrs?
You ever get your WW Core's?
According to the Zerno thread, Boyt makes some with the same geometry. I emailed them today to see if he would make me a set of them but blind...
https://boytenterprises.com/collections/burrs/products/ditting-804
Vertical burrs > horizontals for taste...
No, not yet. Thanks for the tip and curious if Boyt will do it. I had planned to pick up a Weber set and modify them
$600!?
What carrier are you looking to put them in?
On the Z2 natively, just take out the sweets that I bought it with.
I did buy a set of DB3 Bases (used) as well to compare them.
I haven't bought the boyt's yet, I'm trying to convince him to make me a set of them...but in blinds for the Z2 🙂
Db1 is core -Did you get the base/db3? They’re discontinued - had a chance to try them
unfamiliar with the z2 mounting mechanism but figure for Ozik the mod should be fairly straightforward using cores
Well should we simply shoot for Jan at this point?
I'm able to do December but I think it's a difficult time to get people together because of the holidays.
January might be more practical idk.
Ah yes Base I mean
The Z2 is blinds by default, but they have holes for all the major burr mounting types
I do agree that January would make more sense
I’m fine with either
I’m the same, can likely make Dec work, but if not Jan should be doable
Anyone in the Tampa area interested in a DE1?
I wish I was that rich to let it go for that much
From what I'm seeing, DE1 values are starting to drop notably, so I'd probably get it listed sooner rather than later tbh
Good to know
Might as well keep it if too low. I was just looking to sell it for some $$
I only use it to make the kids hot chocolate now
Can post it up here: https://discord.com/channels/726985544038612993/1021971239406927882
It's abour $100-120 to ship in the suitcase the last I saw
Oh I see, you haven't been active enough since the changes
Great to know the shipping. Thanks.
HB or coffeeswap maybe
I have no idea what's going on in the coffee world
They put BST access behind a participation thresh hold to filter out scammers. It'll auto-assign to you once you hit the message count
Interesting. I'll spam shotwell
OK...250...and I'll come get it...and lunch is on me? 🙂
Before I post this, does anyone local want any of this? I’m in Orlando
Highly recommend someone pick up the sworks dripper from Rusty if there's any need for a 1 cup flow control flat bottom.
I use mine every day as it's the perfect dripper for my brewing style.
It's like 90 with shipping from sworks and the negotiator is like 30 shipped from moonwake so that's an awesome deal.
Just sold it! Well, it’s pending PayPal payment
wish i saw this sooner
would've loved to try the sworks dripper if it was glass
Oh man it's so damn cold today.
Not yet - sometime in Jan, date TBD
I was gonna bring you all some B&W Halloween Candy but I don’t think it will last THAT long
January, Longwood FL exit 94 on i4!
Longwood FL is 🔥
I’ve got a couple of single-cup samples of different coffees set aside for the next meetup 👀
Some wacky stuff…. grape soda, mixed berry ombligon (both b&w) and soon some others
Funky
How are yall brewing that on spro? I haven’t cracked my bag open yet.
My wife likes it as a latte. On an MC6 1:2.5 in around 20s. I’ve been doing a 1:15 v60 on a Pietro with a 35/15 water comp and TBT ~2 mins
I tend to prefer these types in spro milk drinks personally
This was intensely aggressive. I brewed it at Fest Orlando for people. @limber stag was there
Had to send A LOT of coffee through the grinder after that one.
I ordered when B&W posted/dropped it.
I knew what I was in for. It delivered. It's more intense than Candy Crush, IMO. Which is wild
Yeah, B&W is good for these seasonal themed funk editions
Oh man never heard of them, just ordered 2 bags. That looks awesome
In Tallahassee for the day, any shops worth checking out?
Short answer is no. Patchwork on campus seems fun, but with the game you can have hard time finding parking
Ology and Paper Fox may have a better drip; if you want to enjoy Lake Ella you can stop by Black Dog
Paper Fox will make you a steep and release brew (on a Yama), but I am not sure it's worth the price (it's ok though)
Fair enough, I appreciate the feedback
Now that it’s closer who all is going to the coffee fest this weekend
I plan to go
anyone else? @safe bison maybe or @fossil canopy or perhaps even @slim ridge
or some other peeps like @sharp heart or @narrow coral - sorry for at'ing y'all
I'm gonna swing thru this time for sure
Coffee fest? I’m not going be able to make it. I plan to come to the meetup in January tho
not tis weekend
I won't be able to make it to coffee fest but thanks for the heads up.
I can’t make coffee fest. Getting on a plane for cold weather up north toward the end of the week.
I don’t know who all will be pouring at the fest but if you all know of any that definitely need to be sampled let me know
I want to, but my Mom and stepdad are down visiting from our of state, and he's not very mobile, so they vetoed it due to the walking, and he's too proud to use a wheelchair like the disabled elderly dude he actually fucking is. NGL, I'm kinda salty about it. I almost told them I'm going without them but my wife told me she'd be pissed, and happy wife happy life...
I'm so sad I won't be there! Next year 😔
I have been addicted to this on pour over
Gave it one try on spro and spat it out, feels like a waste trying to dial it in
I just recently started trying turbo shots but I have heard processed coffees don't go well with turbos, idk
I loved my Edwin Norena Cinnamon coferment in my 24/72 turbos!
Anyone located in the Tampa area that has a Zerno grinder? I’m looking to retrofit my Ion beam mount to the Zerno, been getting a lot of requests. Looking for someone close to me so I can take some measurements and test fit. And for a bonus you’ll get a free mount. Just need to buy the ion beam from Acaia
@fossil canopy is in Central Florida, but maybe we can sync up in Jan? Otherwise I figure he's pretty handy with a micrometer - not to volunteer him
I should be at the next EAFlorida get together and will have my Zerno with me if you want to take some measurements and test fit then.
I'll have a Z2 in December, and I can use a set of Mics if you want me to take measurements. 🙂
How far are you from Tampa? I like to be there and measure since I need to draw it all out and visualize where it’s aiming so will be a couple iterations and visits most likely
I'm actually like 45 minutes NW of Orlando
Did you get tix? I’m looking into a promo code for VIP tickets
I got the regular ticket but wondering if it will be crazy busy
Initially, I thought it would not but it’s being marketed as the Super Bowl of coffee. I tried to buy VIP tickets last night and they were actually sold out. Apparently, there were over 450 vendor applicants.
Wouldn’t be surprised. My brother said last year was “meh” but he’s not off the deep into coffee
most people aren't as deep as those of us on eaf,
report back how it was. maybe worth marking the calendar for next year
I will surveil and report back! The normies prob still like the sample coffees - there are a ton of roasters coming too
I thought about wearing an EK burr on a necklace a la Flavor Flav but realized it’d be lost on most.
I need a ”got soup” hat
In Jax @thorn spoke and I met up for some coffee. His beans are good. The Peruvian Gesha he brewed me was delicious.
Had fun yappin' about coffee
Yeah, man, it was awesome
Definitely brew some beans you are familiar with and report back how you like that water, excited to get some feedback on it
@mighty raptor welcome!!
Hey there!!!
Good lord I’ve sampled a lot of coffee. I might not sleep again
Same!
Was a pretty nice event not too crazy and easy to get a lot of samples
Ok team!
I’m proposing the third ever EAFlorida meetup (same location in Longwood) on Saturday, Jan 17.
Proper start 9am, 8am doors/setup. Families invited!
for yes
for no
Ah yeah, lets go
I will be there
I’ll be there with an Orb and a ZP6
What location? I'd like to find out more about this!
#1228117431889826036 message
Whoops scrolled up just not far enough thanks!
Didn't have my coffee yet this mornin 😅
@zealous hinge - FL thread here! Unsure if you’ve found us already
Thanks! I’m still very new to them but I’ve been enjoying the process a lot lately.
Is there a secret handshake? Do we meet on Saturdays for fight club or what?
Just quarterly meetups. If you have instagram I post the updates more formally there @ EAFloridah
We have the next one planned for Jan 17
Followed. 👍🏻
I’m in Gainesville next week are you close to there?
Nice im in Delray
That will be like 2 hours south of me.
I haven't been to much outside Delray, but it's a cool city!
I know it's a longshot, but anyone in FL have a Niche Zero they want to sell?
Anyone local who might be interested in a Gaggia Classic Pro [2019] with Gaggimate Pro installed?
I'm headed up to Michigan for christmas and planning to leave it up there to sell but if someone here was interested, I'd keep it here [or sell sooner]. I'll post up a BST when I'm ready to sell it [from MI] but figured I'd throw it out here to locals in case it lined up with anyone
I have a Gaggimate modded Turin Legato V2 and it's great
Definitely gonna hold me over until I can see some actual reviews for the Series 1
I truly do hope I'm wrong, but I have next to zero faith that Fellow will pull off Series 1
I didn't preorder one...I'm skeptical, but hopeful that it's awesome, at the 1500 dollar price point, if it does what they say it will, it'll be disruptive
It's missing too much on launch and they half-bake their software [ex Aiden] and never finish it IMO
I want a meticulious, but their shady business practices make me nervous that I'll give them 1800 bucks, and maybe, perhaps, in 2029 I'll get one...
Fellow is a big enough company that hopefully they pull it off though...
Haven't followed S1 very closely after initially hearing about it though tbh
Well they haven't fixed, adjusted or acknowledged half of my qualms with the Aiden so I am not holding my breath
I'm very happy with my stagg pro kettle
Kettle is surely equivalent to Espresso machine
I just mean that they have income 🙂
to keep developing without relying on one product without going bust
Yeah I get what you meant lol
just poking out of frustration and abandonment
Maybe S3 will be what S1 should have been
That's my prediction [if it makes it that far]
Meticulous looks cool AF, but I just worry it'll never get to anyone's hands before the company goes belly up and half the people are left holding the bag.
The give us 1800 bucks, no refunds...but you can skip the line from the OG backers makes me think they're fishing for revenue to get to the finish line..and just hoping they make it there.
I’m curious about it
I have a Gaggiuino and like it, but Gaggimate looks quite nice
Yeah it works great but I'd say you wouldn't see much difference between Gaggiuino and Gaggimate tbh
I think Gaggiuino is a bit more open with more control/options but at the expense of "finish"? tbh I've never used Gaggiuino so I can't really compare very well
Anyone want a free 5000 watt Step Up/Down transformer to try out EU gear? It's this one from Amazon and too heavy to move to Portugal, https://a.co/d/6T4DkuD. I'm in Sebastian if anyone wants it
Love my aiden
The aiden is great, but the build leaves a lot wanting. I feel the series 1 will be in the same boat.
Aiden and Lagom mini 2 is my office setup
I preordered one. My credit card protects my purchase: if it doesn't arrive, I'll get the money back.
I hope you get it!
My only concern is that if I buy it today, and it takes a year before I get told "too bad so sad" then my CC won't let me do a chargeback that far.
I used Aiden for a month or two, I liked it
Definitely some frustrating quirks
I feel like most brewers have frustrating quirks though lol, I ended up on the xbloom but I NEVER use the included dripper because the grinder makes a mess all around the waves in the filter lol
Which is arguably more irritating than some dribbles when you remove the carafe on the Aiden… XD
I keep it pretty simple with the way I use it but it does a decent job on light roasts and I can easily brew right into my cup for single serves
Do we have any coffee roasters in the Orlando area? I'm looking for some seasoning beans, I've got a Z2 comming with 5 burr sets to season, and although I could use like costco beans, it may be less expensive to get some which didn't come out salable for someone locally
Could try Lineage - they are probably big enough to have reject batches around
Thanks
Leatherback in Longwood may have some too
Thanks, anyone ever use the Espresso Outlet seasoning beans? 10 pounds for 40 bucks.
https://espressooutlet.com/products/seasoning-roasted-coffee-beans?variant=41410745270347
I've used Shoebox, S&W and was generously gifted some by Jeff at the Q2 meetup (prodigal)
I think the price is pretty good though at $4/lb
Thanks
I figure if I can find them locally, I'd rather support a roaster in central FL, but if I can't then online it is 🙂
I've used the Prodigal, and if you pick up a bag or two too it's not bad total cost
If you need to break in a new grinder or new burrs, this coffee is for you! This coffee is only for seasoning new equipment, not for brewing -- Ick, yuck!! We pack this coffee in ten-pound increments. Use discount code GRIND5 to get $5 off another bag of coffee from our regular menu when you purchase Grinder Seasoning
I prefer Prodigal's to the Amazon cheap-o beans. The Amazon ones were quite oily
lol looks like they might have changed shipping rates - maybe not worthwhile now
In addition to Prodigal, Good Brothers is also good.

Posted in case there was any local interest
This being my first meetup… are you looking for anything specific for folks to bring or just whatever they feel like
Excited to have you! Please bring a cup, if you have any beans you would like to share that would be wonderful!
On the second tab, you can see the sign-up sheet for the next one, which provides some loose guidance. It may be helpful to take a look at some of the prior event sign-up sheets, which are in the workbook.
Really just want to make sure that we don’t have an event where we are missing critical stuff.
Last time I think we had two kettles and it was more than enough, for the # of people present. Something that really makes the event nice, especially with so much caffeine is that folks brought food, which was a hit! Can’t go wrong there for sure.
Others brought grinders, a plethora of drippers, beans, water for brewing, etc.
I’ll be able to provide electricity and tables.
TLDR basically anything you want to share or let others experience!
I think it's pretty much guarantee my wife will be baking again.
It's becoming tradition at this point I roast and bring coffee and she bakes.
Anybody in here interested in a Fellow Tally, Moonraker, Ember mug or walnut tamping station?
Gonna end up listing those items on the marketplace at some point. If y'all can save on shipping and I don't have to worry about packing it up, would love to sell it then!!
I'm gonna have to bring my Muvna 8 to the Meetup 🙂
I assume folks are interested if I bring some frozen beans like B&W and Native
Gratz on the Daddy Got Coffee GoodSwitch mention @limber stag, https://youtu.be/5JxysoMjIME?t=8m46s.
Visit https://thirdwavewater.com/daddygotcoffee for 10% off a one-time order using DADDYGOTCOFFEE!
If I were starting coffee in 2025, I wouldn’t buy what I bought… and I wouldn’t make the same mistakes.
I wasted money, time, and a lot of good beans figuring out what actually matters in coffee — from grinders and brewers to water and be...
I was just about to say that!!
I'm seeing GoodSwitch organically on youtube pretty frequently now 🤣
good news, I am bringing some finca sophia and other stuff to the coffee meetup, bad news I gotta dip by noon.
Thanks! 🙏 I am so humbled
feels quite surreal
Happy New Years Eve fellow Floridians!
Is anyone in the tampa area roasting and interested in some green? Hoping not to ship but I'm moving and the movers won't take "agricultural goods or food product" so they won't move it for me. It's in my deep freezer lol
I'm in Mount Dora....but I'd always love some green beans 🙂
I just got a Kalido M2 I need to teach myself to use
That's further than the meet up 😄
Think it was 1:40 there and 2:10 home last meet up for me
You moving before the January meetup?
final stages with a company up in MI now. The timeline is currently unknown 😄
I’m also willing to rehome/split if no one locally claims!
Anyone roast with an M2 willing to share some lighter profiles?
So far, my coffee is coming out drinkable, but a bit over toasted for my preference, a bit too roasty, and it overpowers the origin notes.
I'd be interested
I've was interested in it for a while but never bought it. Even anyone brings one to the meet I'd love to do a zp6/M01 comparison. Unfortunately I don't think the Z2 will be done before the meet with the delays
reminder to RSVP by signing up in the Jan tab.
We’re just under two weeks out! Hope everyone can make it.
@thorn spoke maybe?
not entirely sure I'm coming back to Jax after the meetup, so this will determine what I bring. If I'm coming back, I might bring the 01 102HU. But If I'm not coming back home the same day, then I'm going to contribute by bringing lots of beans and water. I listed out a lot of my freezer storage in spreadsheet. If there are specific requests let me know.
I unfortunately won't be able to make it again
Or at least it doesn't look like it, it may change
I'll definitely be there, is there a need for an additional scale(s), kettle, dripper, etc? I have an Ode and KUltra but don't think they'll get much use with a Z1 and ZP6 around 🤣
Would love to try a KUltra personally but don’t feel compelled!
Hope it changes!
I'll bring it then! I put down TBD for kettle / scale / dripper, probably re-eval if it's needed once we get closer
Sadly won’t be able to make this one. Maybe next time!
I'm in the Tampa area, Brandon / Valrico to be specific, and interested if the other guy didn't take you up on it.
Is the January meet still happening? If so, when and where?
Nice it's close!
Anyone have a sworks 30-32g 58mm they could bring, i wanna try one for a big turbo
https://ikapestore.com/products/ikape-variable-diameter-espresso-basket
anyone interested in 1 or more of these? We can do a group buy if others want to try convex and do a handoff at the meetup in a few weeks
Why Choose an Espresso Portafilter Variable Diameter Basket? Traditional 58mm baskets, used with 58mm espresso machine brew heads, require a finer grind for the same 18g of coffee grounds to achieve a stable 9 bar extraction pressure. This can increase extraction yield and provide a more balanced flavor, but it can also easily extract bitter sub...
I think it’s ~15g for smaller 58 size and ~18g
I'm in for one of each if we do it
Ok we did it!
Would this work with an Orb?
I think so- I placed an order and can let you know what I find. I have two ORB, one with chopped bottom and one stock
@neat citrus forgot if you’re in this thread
I do my best to tag any other Floridians I see posting in BST, but please lmk if there are others.
I think it should with the right combination of gaskets
If it arrives in time, we can test during the meetup, otherwise I’ll let you know once testing is possible
yea can't wait to try one on the Muvna 🙂
So far shots seem to rip much faster than on a pump machine
even finer ground on my sworks stepdowns with 24g doses pull in like 18 seconds vs 30 on a pump machine
What does this mean??
@clever thistle was kind enough to introduce me to Jamison Savage a few weeks ago when I visited St.Pete/Tampa.
It was a very memorable visit and I'm really looking forward to the Savage Cafe opening up later this year.
Before I left Savage Roastry, Jamison indicated that Savage Coffees would like to ensure this particular meetup is flush with some of the finest Panamanian beans.
Gonna be heading over Monday to pick what to roast/bring. It'll be roasted to our normal profile, sorry you UL drinkers (me included), but we are roasting a lot lighter than in the past.
Grab some green 🧱
Hello everyone! I don’t really drink espresso, but Im active in the FCC community and am glad to be here
@limber stag were you the guy selling the switch upgrades at the festival?
Yes! 👍
Glad to have you @ebon gazelle - welcome!
The meetup will feature coffee in many formats, pourover and espresso - prob soup too
Cool, put my info down for that
Just moved to north Florida from ct, does anyone have experience with filtered FL water for coffee? In ct using a clearly filtered pitcher did a pretty good job
Just found out there was a Florida sub, cool
How North?
Tallahassee
Yay, me too!
So the tap water is way too hard
A few years ago tap+Brita was considered ok, but these days it's frowned upon 🙂
Interesting, i do have tww packets, i suppose I'll just test them out
Do under the sink tap filters usually filter out some of the hardness
Yeah, Zero + half TWW is better
Not sure about the filters
Another option is Epsom salt + baking soda, but you'll still need the Zero water pitcher or an RO system
I feel like buying purified water is the easiest
Zero pitcher seems like a bit of a hassle
Or this, yes
There are some stores that have these giant water machines, I think you can get RO there
Oh that is interesting option to look into
If you are in Killearn area, we should have a meetup 🙂
We should, i sent u a pm.
I'm near the FSU area, but i can drive
Orlando, its bad, and will scale up your kettle fast. Distilled + Lotus Water for me
So those machines aren't RO, I have a few of them near me in Mount Dora. I hit them with a TDS and they're low, but not RO low. They seem to be about the same as most bottled purified water.
The Floridian aquifer that Florida sits on top of is primarily limestone and dolemite, so the water is gonna be hard as hell in most of Florida
Interesting
Tampa here, same as the rest... might as well shave some rock into the water before you boil it 🤣
Like "what are these white chunks at the bottom of my cup" bad. LOL
They make big 'ol countertop ones that hold several gallons of water as well.
And a TDS meter built into the front so you know when to replace the filter. Not sure if they're all like that
5-gallon one is probably most convenient if you go that route
Oh, i was literally wondering what the white stuff were lmao
That's smart
Interesting, that thing looks pretty cool...

Interesting variety that is low caffeine
Yes! Two days ago
Thoughts?
Anyone going to the meetup need a 58/49 stepdown basket? I have an extra sworks stamped that I used once and realized I liked the machined ones better I'm happy to pass along to someone who doesn't have one.
Welcome to Florida!!!
I’d like to try it with my Orb
Ok I'll toss it in the bag
If you don't like it or find you don't use it, just pass it along to someone else 🙂
I'm gonna turn these meetups into swap meets...mark my words...i have so much random coffee shit and my wife rolls her eyes every time I buy more because I need to try something new...
I just tell my wife I could have more expensive hobbies 🤣🤣 she’s lucky I didn’t get into cars or golf or something
Ahh my solution is to just "surprise" her with camera gear every time I want to buy something new...
I impulse bought a Z2...so like... surprise!
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1547011-REG/canon_rf_100_500mm_f_4_6_3l_is.html?ap=y&smp=y
now she can't complain...
That’s crazy 😂
I was doing my literal once a day look at the Z1 to see when it would be available for purchase, and the Z2 was just up for sale...Z1 still not available
So I bought it...apparently they accidently listed it on the website for sale for like a couple hours before they noticed and made it comming soon...
Gotta do what you gotta do
If I accidentially buy anything else expensive, I still have one more thing to balance the scales with the wifey
She wants a new R6 3
Is it a business / side hustle or hobby?
My wife is more of a Sony girl herself but the R6 looks nice
She's a housewife, I would LOVE for it to turn into income...but like...that ship has sailed...
Love that for you. If only
My wallet wishes she wanted to work...but...alas...
We talked about moving systems this year actually to the new A7 (which is where I wanted to start in mirrorless), just selling what we had and moving systems, but the R6 3 seems like it's just a better video camera than Sony's offering this time around...so sadly...happy wife happy life...
Lololol
yea, I wanted to get an A7 mk2 instead of an R6
but she wanted the cannon....
I just want to get out of the damn RF ecosystem...no third party lenses is hurtful
Yea I suppose when you’re familiar with the operation
Haan uses a auto pourover machine that makes super clear cups. Very crisp crabberry flavor, with a lot of sweetness
I’ll bring some stuff I have in my collection of discards. I have a Hario carafe size 2 that is bigger than I need
I have an extra shot mirror too if anyone needs one, these come in 2 packs. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FN41SM9S
Hello from Georgia. How often do yall meet up?
Based off the sign up spreadsheet, a few times a year?
Nice! Would love to know when your next one is if Im able to come down I will!
The 17th of January
Whaat! Where at. Maybe Im not seeing this sign up sheet?
Who is roasting when you say we?
Thanks! Do you mind me asking what city you guys are meeting up in
Sorry Im an idiot. Got it - thanks
Savage Coffeess
Got it, thanks. Do you roast with them? You don’t have the purple grapes, so I don’t know, lol.
I do not, I am a consultant for a handful of places 😊
Any chance you have some pointers for someone who roasts coffee for himself to drink but not to sell? I'm struggling with my M2, I keep like over roasting, the artisan curves seem to look OK, there is no tipping, and it's not burned, but the coffee seems to be losing all the origin notes which were so easy to bring out with a fluid bed.
I'd love a tried and true roast profile for light roast I could load into artesian as a background, and use as a starting point for making light roasts that bring out the origin flavors. For smaller ~200-300g batches.
Virtual Coffee Lab on YouTube roasted with a couple Kaleido roasters (M2 and M10 I think). He's got a playlist with 7 videos if that's helpful
yooo! i'll trade you this unused flat dripper, if interested
https://simplify.coffee/products/brewer?srsltid=AfmBOor2psIiAOJhwq43uXshtslFBRUo7XokhoRaM9EAVhXHL_R-xfhv
Nobody wants bad coffee. Coffee equipment is useless unless it makes good coffee. SIMPLIFY the Brewer makes good coffee a part of your daily life. From newbies, coffeeholics, to professional baristas, anyone can make the best coffee with SIMPLIFY the Brewer. Features Lesser, faster and stronger. Minimising the contact
One quick tip that comes to mind is fluid bed roasters generally go a lot faster. Time to yellow and time to FC would need to change on a drum.
Hm...that's weird because I'm experiencing the opposite. I had a Roma Pro fluid bed, which has a heating element that seems a bit undersized (which I bet is responsible for this,) I was getting great 10-12 minute cinnamon roasts with that thing consistently, even if I finish in 8 minutes, my M2 roasts are comming out very "generic coffee" like.
To me 8 mins seems pretty fast on a drum even for a light roast, but of course seeing other m2 owners is a great starting point
I’ll DM you
Well, bought a new Versalab M4, if it gets here before the meetup I'll bring it with me
I'm hyped for this weekend!
don't forget to sign up please for attendance/planning purposes
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/10791mf2WkiZ7MBhShFPSvUcGQPOyi4cTNeLUf9bHMzg/edit?gid=2128982977#gid=2128982977
Yall Im sad I won’t be able to make it!!!
I will be there early since I have to dip by 10
For those who are coming Saturday...any interest in me bringing a roaster, I have a Kalido M2 I could bring if people wanna roast some green coffee.
@clever thistle , you coming Saturday?
Yessir
Should be there around 9. Driving from St Pete
We can take a look at what's going on
Damn. Grandpa is committed to seeing the Village People at Bush Gardens on sat so he can't babysit the kids. Otherwise I could have made it to this one.
So what you're saying is we need to convince our wives to come to watch the kids...then @neat citrus can come too. 🙂
Exactly hahaha
Families (including kids) are 💯 invited to this event!
Dogs too?
not entirely sure on that one! i've not seen folks bring pets to HOA clubhouse
OK, just checking, wifey asked me to check, he's a pug and I swear she likes him more than she likes me. 🙂
LOL Ok this was freaking hilarious...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdNxMkWvp9Q
I am currently staring at a $3,000 pile of precision-machined aluminum and shimming it with kitchen foil, all so my bean juice tastes 1% less like wet cardboard.
A casually explained deep dive into the specialty coffee subculture, covering the descent from a simple Keurig to the Hierarchy of Waste, the physics of Slow Feeding, and why your burr...
I completely forgot about signing up! I’ll be there early as I do have to leave early for work as well. Would you like me to still sign up?
No need!
I am bringing some srs expensive coffee to brew. So let’s get it
i'm gutted, its looking like I'm not going to be able to make it tomorrow. I have a parenting thing that I likley need to prioritize.
DOH!!
My wife pre-emptively asked me if I'd be annoyed if she bailed on me..I think I'm going solo
yeah.... be a good father or drink coffee...
