I’m game for Orlando, we need a spot, and tell me what to bring.
Negative, Philly
Awesome! Have you been to framework or Kos?
Framework has two group slayer and went two or three weeks ago, pretty good spro and PO. KOS is not far off horatio I think
449 S Orlando Ave
Maitland, FL 32751
United States
KOS is good too and roasts. They have a nice LM machine and friendly baristas
Anyone in the FL group have a kafatek? I’m dying to try a shot from the new conical Kones
@limber stag hey buddy! I’m told by @radiant quartz that you are looking for some manufacturing or designing? I am a ME and specifically in CNC and I personally have a 3D printer for prototyping or even cool odds and ends. Made some custom mounts for decent for filters Pfs, thermometers. Really anything I can design/ help make
Incredible! Dm incoming
@crisp oxide is in Florida too!
im down here in brevard, so I dont mind an orlando trip!
Yea he’s like 25 min from me
Blast I just realized it’s Memorial Day weekend coming up. Could’ve been ideal. Is Monday too last minute
IE a week today
I think most have plans already as do myself
makes sense, a lofty vision for sure
Adding @eternal terrace to the fold! Anyone in central FL with a decent?
I am from Ocala (1 and 20 mins from Orlando) @sudden heron is from Tampa
Dark roasts??? REEEEEEEE
nice. i like how @rigid sundial has blessed us with his presence from across the map
had no idea
rohan r u gator?
I've been wanting to do a get together for a while. I can probably go as far as Orlando. I have a DE1Pro and 909s I could bring.
In Palm Harbor
You’re near me ishhh I’m in Apollo so like 35/45 min
@crisp oxide is from the Tampa area
@crisp oxide I see your selling a roaster. Did you get a different one? Or just taking a break?
I've got 2 babies, but also am contemplating getting a Bullet. Gotta sell the Kaldi first though
Nope I order from Sweet Marias - haven't had a single issue with them so have no reason to switch [maybe for pricing, but I like the variety available]
@limber stag
@here
Anyone have any shop recommendations for Seminole/Treasure island areas?
Paradeco coffee roasters is pretty good! They got an EG1 they use for pour overs
Bad mother st.Pete just got AMOC in
I went there once and made the mistake of getting Savage roasted coffee. Their greens are good, but their roast is
Sweet! Thanks for the tip
@plucky imp check this out- it’s a Florida thread. I’m in Longwood which is likely the closest person (I’m aware of) to the greater central FL area
hi
Welcome!!
What part of central fl are you in?
hi
Depends
when i'm with my dad, winter park
when i'm with my mom, winter garden
but soon i'll be moving to gainesville for university
Nice! I’m not far from WP. I REALLY like framework coffee they have a nice 2G slayer. Lineage is good too!
I usually drink at home 🤣
i usually drink at home too
I source my beans from otus in wg
I’m unfamiliar with them actually
you should check em out they're pretty nice actually
How’s the weekend of 10/19 looking for a meetup in Orlando?
Sunday morning 10/20 could work well for me
Golf outing but hey I’d love to meet with y’all after? I’m playing Cabot in the AM
down for an orlando meetup around then
Isn’t Cabot a cheese? Golf have you tied up both mornings?
10/20 works
@fickle bridge @sudden heron @crisp oxide @eternal terrace @oblique rivet @night hatch
Innaugural FLEAF meetup tentatively scheduled for the morning (maybe around 10am) of Sunday 10/20 in Orlando. Mark your calendars!
@fickle bridge is from up north no?
I'd love to go, but got a baby due around that time.
How exciting! Congratulations 🎉
Oh this looks cool! I’m in NJ though, maybe @slim ridge is in FL?
Ocala, Florida 🙂
2 flows! I can’t keep up now LOL
Ah thanks my bad 🤣
Haha I just hit up my namesake the other day as a heads up for cross-mentions, and here we are
@uneven ravine is in Florida also
Stay safe everyone!
Oh cool, a special thread! Tallahassean here!
Is everyone safe and dry? It turned away from Tally, but Perry got somewhat hit again
My home and job didn’t have power for half of the day. Debris everywhere, but lucky not much was damaged
Always feels crappy when the power goes down. I have a few dead limbs hanging from trees, will have to knock them down
@stuck tinsel is in FL
Innaugural FLEAF meetup tentatively scheduled for the morning (maybe around 10am) of Sunday 10/20 in Orlando. Mark your calendars!
Are you around Sarasota? Or Perry?
Most of my family is up in Mayo but im down near Melbourne and a tree fell on my neighbor's line and house and brought down the neighborhood
@uneven ravine
That's shitty. Got a tree on my house during Idallia last year.
Question is where?
Yo! Just discovered this. I'm in St. Pete(Seminole really). Would be down to meetup! Also down to pour coffee for people 🫶
I also work with the owner of Bad Mother on their coffee program (if you have feedback I am more than willing to relay it, constructively 😊)
Would love to hear a little more detail. I know both the guys over there and I'm sure they would be receptive to feedback (can PM me)
Welcome! My mother in law lives in Seminole so I’m there a few times a year. My HQ
based just outside Orlando (Longwood)
Oh nice! I'm in Willimsdale Square. Been meaning to make it over to Orlando to hit some of the shops. Just moved into FL about 18 months ago.
Hey man you’re right by me, I’m in Tampa.
Would love to meet up and rip through some coffee sometime! I'm running an event in St. Pete this weekend at Bad Mother if anyone is in the hood. 10am-2pm with Savage Coffees.
I may come through!
Glad we’ve got a growing contingent of Floridian aficianados! I’ll be organizing a google sheet to help keep better track of event date/time/location details and/or what people can bring.
I was thinking we could “sign up” (voluntarily) for those willing and/or able to bring grinders, machines and beans. The sheet could help us make sure we don’t all show up with the same thing
I think a private venue makes most sense as I’m not super plugged into cafe scene in Orlando. Details forthcoming!
@signal pecan is in FL too! What part of Florida do you reside in?
Jacksonville
Anyone else near jacksonville, FL?
I’m within driving distance of Orlando if there’s smth going on!
Stay safe everyone! I’ll be more disciplined with organizing soon.
We calm for now in south Tampa
My neighbor is going to have a bad night, 3 branches hanging on by a thread going to go down on their roof
@stable summit you watch mikes weather page?
I do not, never heard of it
He’s instagram and other social media. Does a lot of storm chasing and gives analysis on the NHC reports without all of the extra that the TV adds in
I will give it a follow
We fled Tally, hopefully our MagLab does it's magic
Yay, we survived. How is everybody?
good here, brother in tally good, SIL in gainesville good, MIL in st pete good too fortunately. all without power
good in orlando
Anyone here have a recommendation for a proper cafe in Davie or Miami, besides panther?
Was in Ocala but we made it out really well. no power outages or debris messing things up in our area
Narbona
I’ll check it next time ty
stay safe
Good luck out there! He’s coming in hotttt
likewise, godspeed to us all
She coming
Coming right past/over me too
It's getting hairy here in Valrico - haven't had power for a bit and the wind is ridiculous
Everything good there this morning?
I’m a bit further north but no power here either. Some damage to the fence but otherwise just a VERY windy night.
We've got down trees all over, debris all over and no power, but I think pretty much all the homes and people nearby are good/safe
Made our coffee and plugged in the deep freezer for an hour or so thanks to the generator, hoping not to have to run it too much
We did good! Went out in the eye of the storm that was cool! Few damages to my pool cage. And I had to stay on watch to pump the pool so I was up all night going in and out. That wind knocks you around lol
we are good, but power is also out. at least the weather is nice enough for them to work on outages
Glad y'all are safe! It didn't hit Tally this time, but we were pretty scared for South Florida.
I think fortunately it felt and seemed worse than it turned out. Probably because of that Southern trajectory
Just got power back 🙌
same! we got power earlier this morning
Not looking forward to opening the fridge lol
Yea, we had to toss out most of our stuff
That sucks. We got power yesterday too, thankfully. Hot water is a real luxury😂
@proven stag here are some other Florida folks
Any roasters in the chat?
@crisp oxide roasts i believe
well, I haven't roasted in a number of months haha
Looking to buy a gas drum roaster? 😄
21 month and 8 month old - finding it harder and harder to find the time
Congrats!
Haha thanks - no real complaints, it just feels selfish when I want/need to go do other things [especially roasting]. I also haven't cleaned my garage since my move, so I don't have my space set up yet haha
oh snap! a move and 2 under 2 - godspeed 🙂 my second came in april and it's a wild ride
@crisp oxide DM'd you
Anyone in the area interested in trading anything for a Kaldi Fortis roaster w/ bean cooler/chaff collector and gas setup? LOL
Open to most coffee related things... I have a post in buy-sell but since this captures the FL folks, wanted to toss out a message
Hey did you buy that mini roaster thing? I was going to PM on that but saw you on it first
Yeah, the ikawa?
No time to sit out in the garage with the bigger roaster, so I'm just going to do a boatload of really small roasts on the ikawa instead, while watching TV with the Mrs on the patio
Makes sense I was curious about it, let me know your thoughts
Maybe I'll send some roasts your way 😄
I haven't looked at what greens I have still left over from before the move, but I think I'll need to put in another order in the next couple of months. Happy to add some in for you
I’m never opposed to that man! 😁😁
@elfin tapir did I add you to FL thread?
If it’s this one I’m in now yes, called sunshine state?
Yup eventually id like to help coordinate a meet up
@hollow kite is in FL and looking for a fellow kettle! Anyone able to hook them up?
Thanks for adding me to this thread!
For sure! We have folks all over Florida and I set this up hopeful one day we’ll find someone local to me willing to do bean splits!
Im in Ocala. I would be interested in a potential meetup. Im within driving distance to Orlando
My son and I used to go to the Santos campground all the time to camp and hit the Santos trails. Best mountain bike park in Florida!
Orlando is good. Kinda of central for everyone. Hoping someone in Orlando wants to host and has a great coffee bar setup 🙂 I can bring beans since thats what I do for a living is roast.
its only like 3 hours for me I'm in Cape Coral, next to Ft Myers
Have you been to Alafia? I'm not a biker myself but a bunch of people I work with love it for mountain biking
https://www.floridastateparks.org/Alafia
I live less than 5 miles from Santos trailhead
Jacksonville here
Hey all does Sunday 1/5 work for majority of us should we convene in Orlando?
@faint copper in FL too!
Sundays are not good for me, but I will also have a newborn then so I wont be available then anyways
Anyone here happen to make their way to Connecticut? Would love that nurri, but too far of a drive
My parents live there, they are coming down to see me Tuesday, where in Ct is it
Ahhh I thought about it a bit more and I think it's too big of an ask lol
lol! Ok no problem
It's like 100lbs and the size of a lawnmower lol
Appreciate it though! Maybe I'll consider flying up and renting a car back home
Ahh yeah it's not airworthy haha
I saw that nurri also, seems like a great price.
Yeah my aunt in NY is willing to go pick it up for me, but Im convincing myself I'll just pay full price in a year or two, since I literally just bought an 01
Feels like I'm speedrunning how much money can I spend in 2 months lol
Yeah, if I lived in that area I’d 100% take a look at it in person. I’m guessing it’s nearly half price… if nothings wrong with it, it’s a steal. My biggest concern is if my wife can pull it. I had a pump machine, went to a CT2 (wife hated it), now I’m back on the market for a pump. I’d love to go hybrid lever, but I think she’ll hate it. My top 3 at this point, LMLu (I owned one in the past), wait for a GS4, Synesso ES1…. Just not sure I want to spend that much money on a machine, and at that point I’m nearing KvDW territory, so why not go all the way, lol
I’m a Denverite but down on Siesta Key for a week vacation.
I tried out Palma Coffee and they are killing it. They partner with a roaster and source their own beans. I was talking to the owner who is a really cool guy. He and his wife have been there both times I visited.
I was concerned I wouldn’t find top tier coffee and I was pleasantly surprised Their pink bourbon in natural or semi washed were amazing. I had espresso and pour over.I highly recommend you try if you’re in the area!
If they had a subscription, I’d consider being on it, but they do sell online at least.
yo im selling a gaggia classic if anyone is interested, ill give yall a deal because yall are my florida boys
That was fast
I bought one earlier this week or else i would have considered it 😂😂
Anyone know of a good cafe in St. Augustine?
I’ve been to two places now and both places had undrinkable espresso lol
Update, went to three more cafes and couldn’t find anything drinkable
So disappointing. The place I’m at now has single origin coffees, siphon brewing as an option and suuuuper expensive equipment but the barista didn’t even tamp. She just laid the tamper on top of the grounds while holding the pf midair, without pressing it down💀
And the bags of coffee in the back were roasted months ago
What places have you been to that were disappointing. I’m up in Jacksonville and in St Augustine occasionally. Let me know what to avoid, lol!
I've been largely disappointed by pretty much all of the coffee I've had in FL and so I've just stopped going and travel with coffee now lol
Lineage in Orlando is good [my memory of it at least]
Concord in Lakeland has been excellent
Try Palma, you won’t be disappointed!
I'm rarely in Sarasota, but I'll keep them in mind for sure
Lineage, Haan and Framework are all really good (in orlando)
Have you been to Lineage recently? I haven't been in almost 2 years so I was hoping that rec was still a good one haha
If you're ever traveling through Lakeland, I think Concord is my favorite FL roaster and worth a stop if you've got the time
Last time I went was prob last year 😬
Thanks for the tip!
In Jacksonville we don’t have great options either. Bold Bean and Mechanism Coffee Roasters are the top two IME, though I haven’t sought out very many. Went to a cupping once at bold bean, and mechanism is close enough to work where I go for a mid morning cortado occasionally
I went to Relámpago, Kookaburra, 3rd Wave, Foxtail and one other place I don’t remember.
Definitely could’ve been just the barista that day (most reviews were pretty glowing) but literally not one was drinkable.
One barista even called it “expresso” LOL
Foxtail...
What about it?
not a fan
Oh, yeah me neither lol. That’s this one here
- 3mo old coffee still on the shelves lol
Any recommendations around Tampa/Lutz? All these places are 90+ min away from me 🤣
Not close, but #1228117431889826036 message
Could be 90mins with traffic 😄
There's like a 3 sisters or something in St Pete [still not close] that's been rec'd to me a few times but I haven't been
Maybe it was Bad Mother
That’s not too too far. I’m down in Tampa once every few weeks so if I can find a good spot down there I’ll be happy. I’ll have to see how far Concord is.
My wife did get some pretty killer photos from Relampago.. id be curious to come by another day and see if it’s any better. It was such a cute spot
3 sisters is pretty close!
Aw dang
Lpx
I’m not seeing that in my maps. What’s that?
Gotta be LPCX
https://maps.app.goo.gl/QHaNvsHhKK96WhiF6
Oops haha ty^^ I really like them
If going to foxtail skip the spro and get some ice cream, it’s better! (The ones in Jax always have Kelly’s ice cream connected to it, not sure if it’s the same everywhere). Relampago has their beans at Dos Coffee here in Jax. Never had a good coffee there, might not be their beans, could be the shop. It’s yet another shop wit ice cream connected (mayday).
I had a tepid pour over from foxtail and that was the last time I went 🤦🏻
@undone tusk
Thanks, had no idea about this channel
Elevation is decent, they mostly focus on South American washed and/or aneorobic light roasts. They are my local backup option for pour-over when I don't have a subbed coffee ready. They have locations on northdale(carrollwood) and land o' lakes.
Sweet! I’m down by there every few weeks so I’ll have to stop by next time.
I’ve passed there a couple times but every time they’ve been closed 🤣
Ah yeah... iirc they close at 5p. I live pretty close to the Carrollwood location. My biggest issue is they don't carry a lot of beans at any given time and there have been quite a few occasions where they have a very limited selection available or even completely out of stock.
@stuck tinsel
@subtle rock
Welcome to the jungle
Everyone freezing their asses off at night like me?
Hello! I’m also in the Tampa area - I haven’t tried too many local spots but elevation has always been pretty good. Buddy Brew and sometimes Caffeine Roasters have been more of my go-to’s since they’re a bit closer to my typical commutes
Elevation is also close to New York Bagel, which is awesome
@safe bison a fellow EAFer in Orlando!
Hey! 👋
Hahhahaha
Zeal/The Lab is good too if your around Seminole Heights
Thanks for the tip! I’ll have to check those out. I’m closer to the south Tampa area, but I have some friends in SH so we’re over there fairly often
Are there any local roasters you guys like to pick up from in the city? Or are you mostly shipping beans to your house?
Ime local beans are overpriced and pale in comparison to online offerings at comparable prices
I have a 2 bag sub to both Tim Wendelboe and H&S. I'll grab local beans if I have a gap in rested coffees or if I happen to be in the area to try and support local businesses
I can see that! I’m definitely looking to try some new things and experiment with beans. My wife and I have been buying buddy brew bags, and they’re really only affordable if you buy them from Publix. And then you’re really rolling the dice on roast date. Sometimes it’s the day before other times it’s like 3/4 months ago
At first I was like “damn that’s a lot of carrots” 😂
But that’s a seriously impressive deep freeze!
Green + brown
Have you found that you prefer roasting your own?
To local? Yes I haven't found anything in Tampa better than my home roasts
For high end? No I can't match September, H&S, Aviary
I also don't match Concord in Lakeland
I’ll definitely have to check those out!
Also super interested to learn more about your roasting - that’s a rabbit hole I haven’t really looked into
The KL7 is new to me, but before Christmas I ran some extra Ethiopian I had through it just to learn how to use it and they're pulling great shots right now about 5-6 weeks off roast
That’s awesome! Do you store it all in the freezer and grind right from frozen?
Just depends - if we pull out frozen well usually pull out a few days worth at a time, but stuff that's real special or something will come out 1 tube at a time, yes
Right now though this is still all out on the coffee cart so we're not going into the freezer too much
I’m still learning how to pull good shots period, I don’t think I would appreciate/do these justice lol
I only do aviary as PO now - I enjoy it much better that way
Tim wendelboe and September subscriptions seem like a pretty solid value - I think I’ll pull the trigger on one of those!
Tim's coffees are consistently great but rarely spectacular. I really appreciate his philosophy for how he selects his greens, but as a roaster hes a bit safe/boring. He's not trying to push his coffees too hard, or try experimental processes. Which is a good balance if you do have other roasters who are more experimental.
Honestly, I think Buddy Brew is one of the worst roaster here locally
As a 3rd wave coffee shop there is an odd lack of transparency on their practices, or sourcing/origin on their coffees they are offering. Plus, the majority of their offerings are coal.
The only upside imo is that they are the only coffee available at publix/sprouts/whole foods, with a roast on date that might be within an acceptable window. Ive got my Father on their Old Florida Blend as that's the best option available at supermarket level.
We've been buying the Sumatra bags, but I agree they say "medium roast" but they're all very dark
I haven't found a better local option just in my day-to-day, but I'm really looking forward to grabbing some beans from better roasters
I work for publix, so its super convenient for me to buy their bags. Its what I started with when I initially got into coffee.
Its hard to beat, especially when those bags are bogo
H&S sub is great too
I'm guessing you are doing purely espresso?
but it's hard for me to drink the coffees without a substantial amount of milk
I was doing PO until about a month ago when I picked up an espresso setup during black friday
H&S and September are subs I've done and been happy with
I've had subs with sey, hydrangea, haan(orlando), bandit(st pete), TW, and H&S. H&S has been my favorite by a large margin
The Rumudamo from this past month was fantastic
What profiles do you like in your Pour Overs? We're you doing those with milk too?
Sometimes I add some milk, but not nearly as much as I have been for caps/lattes. I've been gravitating more towards the chocolate/walnut notes. But I would really like to try some stuff all over the spectrum to see what I really like.
I feel like coffee is kind of like whiskey. There are a ton of different varieties and ways it's produced/aged, which can seriously affect the end product. I'ts taken a while for me to hone in on the kind of whiskey I like, so I feel like I'm bound for a similar path with coffee lol
I think a lot of that is a natural reprecussion of drinking such darkly roasted beans. Try to get out to Elevation or The Lab and get a washed Ethiopian as Pour Over.
I've gone through a few bags of Elevation's beans and they've been pretty solid! They just haven't had any for sale the last handful of times I've been out there
Ah. Yeah, that's definately an issue I've run into numerous times
Elevation has mostly had South American beans available, especially Colombians, as that is what their roaster enjoys. They have said that they intend to offer more African varieties this year.
awesome! are you dosing the tubes for either spro or filter? i do ~16g for filter but spro depends (can be anywhere from 16-20g. coffee dependent) and want to standardize a dose, if it makes sense. i'm currently freezing beans in the bag at or just before estimanted bean peak and then move to fridge day before use.. usually dont bother to put back into cellars at prescribed dose
i have a rack i built that fits the weber cellars and haven't found another centrifuge tube that sits nicely in the rack. do you like the ones you use w/ the orange lid?
i tried this:
They are all 15g - I moved to a 15g espresso workflow [DEX basket, then step-down basket] and my PO is all at 15g due to the XBloom
Otherwise I'd probably have went with 18g dose for a Feran V60 recipe + 18g espresso
And yeah I do like them - they're pretty cheap and easy to use
They're thinner than the WW tubes [which I also have like 40 of] but I'm planning to re-make some tube storage for the coffee bar once my setup settles a bit
These are the ones I use
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0D7HCPMB5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I think there's been some people looking at the fridge and they suggest that it's not a good idea to put into the fridge [to thaw or to hold] due to the humidity in there
I have had no issues grinding from frozen and/or letting them acclimate to room temp for the next 4-5 days
appreciate the tip - i just started doing the fridge bc i heard this is helpful 😄
i used to go straight from the freezer
There's always contradiction in coffee hahaha
iirc it was something about coming up to RT [and not opening the bag while it's cold] keeps the condensation to a minimum
if they're individually dosed that's not really a problem but for a whole bag, opening introduces new oxygen/moisture that settles on the cold beans... or something, idk
sounds about right
Picked up a bag of washed Peru and natural Ethiopia this morning. Thanks for the advice! The line was out the door at this spot lol
@upper basin is in FL too!
Nice, let me know how the Ethopia is. I believe it's a new offering.
Yessir in Miami
Anyone in/around Tampa have a lathe/mill/drill press or similar tool(s) laying around? Wanting to make some PF handles and maybe machine some aluminum/steel parts or plates but I'm not liking the FB Marketplace options
Long shot but possibly @stable summit ?
I may be able to help
You've got some old/unused tools sitting around for sale? Or you know people with tools?
I'm just looking to fart around a bit but want something usable, but not flashy
Like a little wood lathe [or metal lathe], small drill press [tabletop, etc. - there's a bunch of these out there though tbf]
CNC mill/router
Lathe doesn't necessarily need to be small, but the big ones get $$
Ohhh you want to buy, I do not have anything for sale lol I thought you wanted me to make you something
Nah I want something to mess around with at night/on the weekends haha
Ahhh ok ok yea best bet is harbor freight little lathe and drill press combo
Who else got snow/sleet yesterday? 🏂
For anyone in the Jacksonville / St Augustine area here is a new shop that opened. My friend went and had a good experience. It’s on my list to visit.
If anyone around Tampa is throwing away a treadmill, I'll take your motor/controls lol
Want to mod a lathe - it's coffee adjacent because I'm gonna make some PF and LP lever handles
Making sure @void snow knows about this channel (Gainesville)
Thanks bud! It was so great meeting you today!

Concord is my favorite [In Lakeland]
My sister lives down there so Ill swing by next time I visit
I haven't been there in a while [used to foster and their visits were in Lakeland] but I don't think I've had a single bag bag or bad drink from Concord - I usually go for a cortado
I have to abstain from the poll since I order most of my stuff online
But have you tried framework coffee
They have a 2G slayer and know what they’re doing
I will have to add some of these to the list
I live 5 minutes from Framework and I liked it every time but their seating situation isn’t great so I end up at Deeply or Lineage most of the time
I didnt know they roasted their own beans
iirc there's a lineage at a little market [or at least it was] that we liked. There might have also been some cookie or cupcake bakery there? Don't exactly remember
Without knowing any details [or wanting to know, frankly] there's apparently some drama behind the owners but I don't know any more than that
i agree re: seating and havne't heard of Deeply. Have you checked out Hahn (sp?)
Three group Sanremo You looking thing with some exotic coffees, had a nice pourover that was respectable but pricy AF
I have liked Haan however they roast a bit too dark for me. Deeply does not roast but they are big on nordic style beans
Ive been hearing a lot of good stuff about Savage in St Pete. Need to get out there soon to check it out
Do they have a retail space / cafe? Or just a roastery location
looks like the retail cafe is under construction, exciting though
A new boutique coffee shop is set to open in downtown St. Petersburg at the base of The Nolen condominium building, located at 126 4th Avenue Northeast . The building’s developer, DDA Development, has announced an agreement to sell its ground-level retail space to Savage Coffees , a renowned fa
Neat. They just need to roast lighter
The st.pete that I knew 10-12 years ago is sooo different than what it is now. Definitely plan to visit bad mother soon though
What's a DAK geisha like?
Is anyone local to Tampa looking for a La Pavoni? I'll likely be listing mine in buy-sell soon but would prefer not to ship it
I probably cant afford it, but Im in Ocala and may be interested. How much would you list it for?
honestly I hadn't really thought that far ahead yet lolol
I paid $625 for it and added about $400 of mods so I'd be looking for something like $950
Yeah, unfortunately that is not in the budget right now. Thanks though
No worries
Never heard of bad mother before your comment. Looks awesome!

I went to Bad Mother in St Pete today. Very nice experience. Friendly barista, cool interior space. They were serving B&W on pourover today, one was a conferment and another was one of their black label coffee. Both were banging! Def worth checking out
Not sure if anyone is looking for a DE1 decent but I just posted mine

Another Floridian emerges
@sage turret
@limber stag
👋 from Palm Beach County
I was eyeing your Decent but found a good deal on a Bianca that might be the next machine
Hi from Seminole county! Near Orlando
It’s still available if you want to reconsider
-a response from my savings account😂
Some serious coffee stuff in St. Augustine
🤣 🤣
If anyone's in the Tampa area [or willing to travel to Tampa] and wants/needs a La Pavoni, I'll sell my LP listed in buy-and-sell for $800
@fossil canopy hey where in Florida are you?
Hi, I'm in the greater Orlando area.
Me too! I’m in Longwood
Have you tried framework coffee? I like them and lineage
I was recommended Stemma craft coffee but haven’t tried them yet
Does anyone have a pietro? Would love try it and hope to do a meetup this year
Concord in Lakeland is great - I've literally never had a bad bag or brew from them if you're ever in the area
https://g.co/kgs/y995BBU
Ahh Framework is north Orlando huh
Was going to try to stop there next time I'm in the area but it might be a hard sell to go that far out of the way haha
I don't buy coffee locally anymore tbh. My roast and brew preferences have gotten way too picky it's almost impossible to get coffee I like as much as I brew at home these days.
I used to be a regular at lineage for years but stopped buying their coffee a while back. And then I actually had a coffee from framework a year or so ago my wife grabbed for me while I was in a nearby store. She specifically got the Kyoto brew since she thought it was a "japanese ice brew" (hot over ice) because she knows I don't like cold brew. Unfortunately it was a slow drip cold brew so I really didn't like it at all.
Yes @crisp oxide they have a 2g slayer and know how to use it. Used to run a niche now have an ek. V consistent and good to check out and not far from lineage if you’re over that way
Colonial area
Lineage has a few shops in ORL right? At least last I went to one
Thanks I drive thru the area when visiting MIL in st Pete so hope to make a stop one day
One I went to was in a farmers market area with that "famous/viral" bakery with giant cookies or something
I'm the same way with Tampa roasters - haven't found a single one that I've liked so I order all my coffee online and roast my own
Yea I see that one always busy haven’t tried that one
People ask me quite often about coffee since they know I'm a "coffee guy" but I can't rec anything
I def appreciate this and seldom go out for the same reason. The Kyoto brew contraption looks cool but haven’t tried it.. now I won’t
Well I typically say some kind of "you'll probably be fine anywhere as long as you're not a picky a-hole like me"
Yesss I just started trying roast and maybe better continuing my online purchase habits
What do you roast/process do typically elect!? I’d love to find someone for the occasional split and or meetup
I do pretty much exclusively "ultralight" coffees these days and even some labeling their coffee like that aren't too my preference. I do mostly washed but not against good naturals here and there. I generally avoid more processed coffees other than every once and a while.
Pm
I do
This channel for super extract in the past day, lol.
I know. We need to make it happen. It turns out 2 hours is a lot harder to make work with family than it should be, lol
New to Florida. Anyone with experience with Apocalypse Coffee Roasters?
No - where are the based? I just found a new roaster locally “Leatherback”
I feel this 💯
That’s just our driving commitment
We planning for a gathering at some point?
Can you make it multiple select?

Ok third times a charm
EAF Meetup in Orlando - but when?

I'm a bit south of you in Sebastian. Flying out of MCO next weekend so will have to pick up some beans from Leatherback when I get back. Thanks for the tip
Awesome, hope you like their stuff! I've only opened 1 of 2 bags so far and found it a tad more developed than I'd ordinarily care for however it was well done.
They're really sweet
I think it is, in 2024
oh boy
I definitely did check the calendar
Ahhh yes the 29th is a Sunday
I was wrong the second time
27th Friday, 28th Saturday, 29th Sunday
all good! other states looking at our Meetup thread like
that’s on me
Akshually, its downtown orlando ☝🏼🤓
I just started roasting my own too, would you be interested in a sample to taste and provide any tips?
I roast ultralight as well, right at first crack or maybe a few seconds after. Using an sr800 with extension tube. I bought it off someone who had all the temp probes but I havent ised them yet. Mostly naturals but I got a sampler with a few pounds of south american beans
I saw youre in longwood. You should checkout the KOS in maitland. Id be down to meet up and swap some beans with you.
Orlando = Disney to those who don't live in Orlando 😄
I'm a just send it home roaster, so I don't know what I'd be able to provide in terms of feedback lol
"This is good"
"I don't like this"
"Too Dark"
"Underdeveloped"
that's probably all I could contribute
That's why I bought a KL7, so I can just run a profile and not think about it too much haha
Love KOS. Forgot, r u in 407/321?
I’m down
@fossil canopy is nearby too
👋
We should def do a bean swap or organize splits if interested
UPS should be here soon with 3# of green
https://thecaptainscoffee.com/products/kenya-muranga-gatagua-aa
Captain's Gold top 3! The one we've all been waiting for has finally arrived. It's the bold, syrupy, rich double A we've been dreaming of! This auction lot from the Gatagua factory is an instant classic with big notes of refreshing green apple, juicy papaya, crisp lime, intoxicating jasmine and rich dark chocolate.
Oh all the beans I have are from them right now
It goes by so much faster than you think
Way cheaper than buying roasted tho so huge postive
just need to level up like 10x
What machine are you roasting with?
Ikawa Pro 100
first roast w/ these greens came out wonderfully
Great to hear. Congratulations
as someone who's quite green in roasting, it feels like a huge accomplishment! greatly appreciated
ah! excuse the pun
they’re Nordic light
Did you cup already? Lol
Or you're just talking about the color?
Should’ve been more clear - brown turned out wonderful. Green was good choice!
🟩🔜🟫
I've found big changes from 12 to 24hrs so I wait as close to 24hrs to cup as possible
At my roast level if I don't cup within 24, I'll wait a week before cupping
For profiling/comparing at least
You have the pro, so you can use all the industry cupping profiles
Good to know. Do you think that is going to change but based on roast level? I’m using the air roaster as you know.
I’m noob. Using same profile til I get some semblance of footing
We have a retail space in the roastry
Rn looks like summer solstice is winning
Other than Bad Mother, any recommendations for cafes around St. Petersburg?
I happen to find myself in this area and considering grabbing a hotel for coffee in the morning 💀
Is ‘bandit’ still around? That’s one
Also ‘king state’
King State closed down, bandit's coffee is pretty meh, IMO. Check out Daycation for a sweet treat, Intermezzo for a excellent Kyoto tower, or Bad Mother for a pretty ok Pour Over.
the one in st. pete closed down? wow I was so excited to visit it
If you're on your way through Tampa; Elevenses is 🔥 and elevation coffee heights is ok.
Agreed, their cold brew was actually pretty killer.
Skip Paradeco unless you just want to take photos. The coffee is actual trash.
Oh, I guess if you're actually three racoons in a trench coat, you will enjoy as well.
There is also a new place called Hog Batch Gold bar, the owners are awesome people but I haven't gone yet.
EAF meetup in greater Orlando area, but when?

@barren whale maybe check in here?
Thank you!
Anyone looking for an Aiden?
https://discord.com/channels/726985544038612993/1380605635187441876
Not loving it huh? I'm used to 1 click 500ml for 2 cups workflow lol
it's great tbh, but pretty fixated on manual brewing and trying to declutter
i just dont use as much as manual drippers
when in a rush i'm doing the 8' busy dad rohan recipe w/ switch
Forgot about this more local chat - if anyone in the Central FL area is looking for, or knows someone looking for a nice Spring Lever, my Strega is for sale
https://discord.com/channels/726985544038612993/1379945636136353802
Save me from shipping headaches, and we can work out a price
So tempted by the Strega but I have an Argos on order that I'm trying to be patient about. NGL was a bit jealous when I saw your londinium r24 score lol. Hopefully the scratches polish out nice because otherwise seems like a crazy deal.
There's a night and day difference between Strega and Argos IMO
Aside from aesthetic, and if you don't want/need the manual lever option, the Strega is in a different class
I preferred the La Pavoni to the Argos, personally
I think the Argos in theory is a lot closer to what I want/need tbh. I don't brew espresso often, small water tank no need to plumb it in or anything. Quick heat up times, PID already built in, option for 6 bar spring pre installed, high flow rate etc.
I think I'd jump on the strega or comparable machine and mod it if I drank espresso regularly enough though. sub 2k for a machine like that pretty much new is a great deal.
For a local pickup, I'm at $1,750 with the plumbing setup, scale/riser, GH PID kit
Also just for clarity sake, the Strega has a tank - it can be used plumbed or tanked
Damn that went fast. I should check EAF more often. Glad you were able to sell it
I am just learning to read, ignore me.
All good!
If anyone local is interested in the strega, can also make a deal it combined with either Eureka Libra or Niche Zero if you also want/need a grinder
Can I get a preliminary headcount on how many would be interested in meeting up at this time? I can move forward with booking this week if we have a decent turnout anticipated
I'm out of town, so -1 for me
I’m down to push til fall. Feels like summer always kinda tricky - wish I could see the other results. September October maybe nice
If you’re still looking for one, Blue Hummingbird Coffee has it for near $300
Make sure you pick up a bag of that guatemalan too
Have you been liking the Guatemalan? Last I noticed you were still dialing on it but it's been a couple of weeks to my memory
I’ve been doing almost exclusively milk drinks tbh. I’ll probably go back to seeing if I can dial in for straight shots soon, I’ve been sick the last week so no coffee for me lately 🤣
I don't drink it straight lol it's far too developed/roasty for my preferences as straight espresso
I love it with milk though
Gives me time to practice latte art too
Is a milk thermometer necessary y’all think?
Nah
Nice to have but annoying to think about/clean
Unless you're a really hot milk person, then it's probably more useful so you don't burn
No I use my hands 🤣
Who would be able to make a meetup next weekend?
Ok great, I’m checking into availability at the HOA clubhouse in Longwood (I-4 exit 94, zip 32779)
@violet nimbus are you around?
@slim ridge
@clever thistle @agile monolith
@fossil cobalt @sharp heart
June 21, Saturday
Maybe as early as 9a til noon. Should know today if I can get the clubhouse
@undone tusk @compact pine hopefully not missing others
@hollow kite @subtle rock any shot yall available next weekend?
Hey! Thanks for the tag. Unfortunately not. I’ve got an infant at home so I’m pretty landlocked here 😅
Congrats and happy Father’s Day!
Thank you!
Happy Father's Day to all the dads
Sorry, I will not be able to make. I appreciate the invite though
Clubhouse reserved
Not sure if I can make it yet
2190 springs landing blvd Longwood fl 32779
Sweet. 9am to noon pretty much?
Yea that’s what I’m thinking
Figure would be cool if everyone can bring some stuff
Can bring scale, kettle, Pietro zp6, robot
But prob too tricky to bring larger machines
Anybody want an Encore ESP or tamping station to pick up while we’re there? 🤣 https://discord.com/channels/726985544038612993/1365522709223702568
We can make a deal😏
Down to swap beans with folks! I have a ton of hydrangea strawberry 🍓 and other beans 🫘
@uneven ravine Saturday we gather!
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/10791mf2WkiZ7MBhShFPSvUcGQPOyi4cTNeLUf9bHMzg/edit?usp=drivesdk
@fossil canopy @fossil cobalt
Location/Details on second sheet
@queen prairie feel free to add what you can bring
Could use kettles, scales, water, carafes and cups + any grinders && beans
Seems to be View only
Whoops! Permissions should be updated to allow edit access
Curiously, I am driving to Orlando this Saturday. But later, and straight to Disney 🙂
Perhaps you’ll have time when you’re heading back, since Longwood is presumably not far out of the way!
I’ll prob be around Sunday
to clarify is this a "can bring" or "am bringing" cause ive got some stuff that i could bring but would probably pale in comparison to what yall are running 🤣
Added a few things, I'd love to bring the new Strega but not sure I'm looking to break my back for it lol
“Am bringing” prob makes more sense
||at least this time
||
Figure we’ll be more filter coffee focused so all kettles, scales, carafes, beans and water welcome
Weird it still shows as View only even though others seem to have write access. Perhaps it got cached that way from me opening earlier. I'll open it tonight from my laptop or post what I can bring here if that doesn't work
Thanks for organizing this and let us know if you need us to chip in for the club access
I’m going to see what I can do here. I’d love to make this and it’s only 2 hours away. If I come I might need to leave early because we have family stuff in the afternoon. Running it by the wife - tbd.
About the same for me. Where are you coming from? I'm in Sebastian
I’m in Jacksonville
What's the sort of plan? Never done a coffee meet type thing. I assume we're going to brew a bunch of stuff try equipment/coffee that we haven't before share recipes etc?
Might be worth bringing some small paper cups so we can split brews easily without constantly washing cups every two sips and all of that.
I feel bad my wife is going to come but only drinks milk drinks lol.
Oh and maybe some of us can bring pastries or somwthing or have some delivered?
Figure it’ll be informal, hadn’t given much thought to food or a formal agenda. Happy to do a GoodSwitch demonstration
Would be great if everyone brings a cup/mug but small cups probably work just as well. The HOA clubhouse is appointed with a small kitchenette- sink, fridge, microwave, etc.
Figure we just brew whatever beans and talk shop. I can bring the robot too if we want to do shots but won’t have a means to steam!
The kitchen will nice. A lot less worries about cleanup then.
I'll bring a couple cool coffees ive liked recently to share some brews of. Trying decide how crazy I should go with stuff I bring.
I was able to edit the spreadsheet from my laptop. Must be something in the cache on my phone that makes it appear View only on there. Thanks again
I’m able to bring my Gaggiuino if y’all want to do spro?
i've never seen one in real life!
that's actually great because then we won't tie up a kettle for robot
Epic
So I have a lot of old bags, like 3-9 months old, that I could probably drop off for anyone who wants them. I should be able to let y'all if I can make it by like Thursday
That'd be cool! I really want to bring my machine but it's 70 pounds. The Gaggiuno I assume would have everything covered as far as lever profiles, turbos whatever?
Yeah. If anybody wants specific profiles installed lmk so I can put them on before Saturday
Is anyone interested in samples of UL home roast? I might set up a poll later to choose which green if some people want some.
UL?
Ultralight
RIP 🪦 I will be in South Florida this weekend. Sorry about the late reply Im rarely on discord recently
Hope you all have some delicious cups!
all good, maybe we can get you next time around!
I don't have specific profiles to suggest but I personally like 6ish bar lever type shots with a lower pressure preinfusion as my go-to.
@limber stag @queen prairie @fossil cobalt @sharp heart @slim ridge
Sorry for the ping but wanted to make sure anyone who said they are or might come sees.
Couldn't fit farm/region/varietal info in the poll too little characters can answer any questions. The washed eth is the only one I haven't roasted at all yet so the notes are TBD. The other ones are notes off previous roasts so should be in that general ball park.
We will have a packed agenda!
Tentative agenda:
“try the Pietro” - the workflow experience to help BHFP season pro burrs
Try the subliminal cup (if you haven’t)
Gagguino fun! (ft Matt)
Experience the zerno (ft NeckPro)
robot and/or GoodSwitch demo? (BHFP)
Dripper exhibit (Colum, ufo, pulsar, switch, etc)
Should I bring some SIBARIST filters
Of course, open to other ideas
Only used 5 of the 10 lbs of prodigal seasoning beans I bought. I'm moving to Europe and not buying another grinder until I move. I can bring them if anyone can put them to good use
What coffee to roast and give out samples?
3

Washed Kenya AA: blackberry, strawberry rhubarb, lime
Yo yo!
nothing to do
Any chance one of y’all coming on Saturday has a black weber blind shaker or sworks tall dosing ring you’d want to part ways with 👀
I’m in the “won’t put up a buy post but if the time is right then opportunity strikes” zone
First roast of the Kenya intended for Saturday pretty good, a hair lighter than intended but balanced imo with notes of: Strawberry Rhubarb, Tomato Leaf, Yuzu. Going for something slightly more jammy/juicy for the next roast(s).
3 day old home roast
Not serving any of this Saturday, giving out samples. Probably needs ~4 weeks of rest.
I don't mind fresh off roast flavour any more at all but it's usually a lot better day 1, and is not great until like week 2 and then slowly gets better for up to 3 or so weeks.
You guys could do a roasting comparison cupping if you or BHFP want to roast a few samples Friday PM but I thought you were bringing them for drinking lol
Yeah <24hrs is my rule or >10 days
I never do in between
Took apart the GCP yesterday to upgrade some parts and install a low noise ulka pump mount, we are cracking to go 🤙
Definitely excited to check this out. One of those projects I've thought about many times but never have committed to.
It’s definitely a project lol. Pretty intimidating to disassemble but once it’s apart it’s just following the wiring diagrams
I’ve got a brother in law that has a more engineering type background that was a huge help lol
But the pump mount made a huge difference. I really should’ve gotten a db reading beforehand
is 5 gal of 50 TDS water too much? it's RO w/ some calcium and can bring some lotus drops or epsom salt
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/10791mf2WkiZ7MBhShFPSvUcGQPOyi4cTNeLUf9bHMzg/edit?gid=0#gid=0
I planned on bringing maybe 1 gallon of my usual 1/3 TWW so that I can be dialed in when brewing anything up for people. I assume we'll use less than a gallon each but idk.
Anyone want a Fellow Opus? I’m probably gonna list it like $150 shipped, I’d sell it for $125 at the meetup. Just got it a week or two ago, micro adjustments lost me. Lol
Clubhouse key secured!
My wife is planning to make some lemon poppyseed muffins to bring
Yeah the micro adjustment turned me off of buying it when it came out. Otherwise seemed like a nice option for that price point.
Piggybacking off of that, lmk if any of you wants to buy 64mm SSP cast v2 burrs, timemore B75, siberist booster, and B75 negotiator. I was going to list on market place soon but I'll bring them if there's any interest.
Okay, someone dm the location and time for tomorrow. I will just bring a box of coffee I was going to toss, sample bags, and apax water for anyone who wants to play with that. I can also bring some bags I am currently brewing from September (EL) and ET
#1228117431889826036 message
9 am - 12 pm
I'd love to try a brew of exposure therapy if you bring some. Haven't had a chance to try any yet.
I'm coming loaded up with some good stuff I saved a dose or two of to share. Shoebox Bambito Estate, one of the H&S Yemen's, H&S la papaya, Shoebox Rwanda, TPC Kenya, Minmax PB.
Bet. I gotcha
I only have dark roast soooo
It's ok this isn't BANA
I’m planning to bring some light, medium(?) and dark
Sept Letty (light or extra light), Hydrangea ||(med I think?)|| and dolce ||coal||

@fossil canopy you planning on bringing a stagg tomorrow?
and how many staggs we need yall think?
tryna figure out how much im needing to pack up 🤣 too much gear!!
Yes I'll bring mine, if you have special water recipe you want to use or something maybe bring your own.
But otherwise your free to use mine I'll be using 1/3 diluted Third wave water light roast
Okay sounds good, nah I use tww as well
All packed up 🔥 🔥
Little sneak peak for the home roast samples I'm giving out. My wife made the labels and they look cute. Also a hint at another coffee I am bringing because the Kenya is good but I wanted something a little bit fun too.
This is what I am bringing for anyone who wants to try. (I have another bag of just old bags to giveaway)
I assume someone is bringing grinders so I don’t have to worry about that? I should be there closer to 10:30. someone just send me the address via dm
Yea we got them
Pulling in now, is it open?
Yea
15 min eta
It was nice to meet everyone who came to the meetup I had a great time! Thanks @limber stag for hosting and organizing!
Anyone who got some of my homeroasts, they'll probably need 25-35 days of rest to peak.
Had a blast! Thanks for making it a great time all and many lovely coffees. Grateful everyone threw down so hard and already ready to begin planning the next one.
Let’s shoot for quarterly meet ups! I’d be happy to orchestrate/host the next one as well
Wooh! I had a great time with you all. And looking forward to digging into these home roast
Y’all that was epic! Thank you @limber stag for hosting and everybody else for bringing the coffee and equipment 🤙
Donovan and I also have a clubhouse-ish place towards the other coast and would be happy to host anytime if it’s more convenient for everybody.
I am definitely gonna have to brew up these samples for my coworkers
I got dibs on the next one! Thinking September or October. I’ll put a poll up here before too long and want to see if we cans get bother DoubleR and ODD
And Cicero!
I’ll defer to the group on location tho, def good to have options
I know my attendance likelihood far greater if local/hosting given wife/kids
But def defer to consensus 💯
I’ll do better with bringing food for everyone next time!
Oh yeah, I can always pick up some food platters and such
Very nice meet up! Can't even recall how many coffees were brewed. Great job hosting BHFP and I'd agree you have a nice central location in the state. If I'm back in the states, I'm definitely in for the next one.
Thanks @fossil canopy and @slim ridge for the samples. Can't wait to try them out. Thanks for bringing the espresso maker @fossil cobalt
I am still recovering from drinking that much caffeine 🫨
🫣
I don’t know if I did this right but feel free to @ me if you want to be tagged

Honored to host the Summer Solstice EAF Inaugural Florida meetup! #coffeevibes #pourover - abundance of stellar coffees and had a fantastic time meeting everyone! Already looking forward to the next one.
Followed!
I’m in Orlando. I didn’t know about this one but I’ll definitely make it to the next!
Would love to have you! Pm sent
How many filters or espressos would you say we brewed yesterday? Dozens?
My caffeine induced stupor made me lose count sorry
You set it up from 9-12 and I was thinking, how are we going to drink coffee for 3 hours? By the time I checked the time it was 1 and we stayed for 2 more hours. Great time
Next one I’ll plan for 5-6 hrs 🤣
and addl food
Might be cool to get lunch catered or something.
My wife is always down to bake more so she'll probably bring stuff for the next meet too. These cardamom buns she did a month or two ago were crazy good.
I’d be happy to chip in if we did catered lunch.
Same here
Happy to coordinate food as well for next meetup! Sounds like a great idea and already getting great support from the EAFLers
@limber stag your wife mentioned drippy pots on saturday, I had no idea what they were and just stumbled upon these, holy carp they are gorgeous
I‘ve gotta wait for the ruin mono to restock, the black on black would look so good with my setup🔥
another brand i like for spro cups
The one on the left I scored on Etsy and the one on the right is the “slim” espresso cup. I have one more (Capp size) coming today
Just whatever you do, don’t go to MANA
https://discord.com/channels/726985544038612993/1044424384309362718
That’s so funny
These are so good! I definitely try to stay away from the group unless I want a serious case of FOMO and then end up buying more cups that I don’t have space for 🤣
@limber stag This was the Coffee Chronicler recipe you used right?
Yep
That’s the one!
Sweeeeet
I ordered this bag from B&W, I cannot wait
Planning a trip to Circle B Bar Reserve in Lakeland Sunday, https://www.visitflorida.com/travel-ideas/articles/outdoors-nature-circle-b-bar-reserve-polk-county/.
I'm planning to arrive around 9 and spend a couple hours then make my way to a Lakeland Flying Tigers minor league baseball game at noon. If time permits, I was going to stop for a coffee. Patriot Coffee Roasters seems to roast their own beans so that might be nice to try. Let me know if anyone is interested.
Highly recommend Concord if you haven't been there:
https://concordcoffee.com/collections/frontpage
https://maps.app.goo.gl/zjcJF9XUnaEF92EY8
I'm in Orlando too, probably not as well-versed in the coffee world as others here. I'd like to join the next meetup!
Would love to have you! Starting to look at dates and will send a poll out before too long
Awesome! Very sad I missed this one 😞
@limber stag i cupped the hydrangea strawberry, absolutely insane
flavor is almost as intense in the cup 😳
lmk if you want more 🙂
it's pretty wild! i just put a bit in the freezer and have earmarked a respectable amount for NeckPro
It is definitely wild! It'll probably take me a bit to work through these sample bags. Unfortunately my wife absolutely despises the smell
Thanks for the tip. The one I'd mentioned was actually closed on Sunday. Concord was open and great
Our foster kids used to have visitation in Lakeland so we made it there quite often - haven't had a miss there [yet] but it's been a while. Glad to hear they're still doing good over there
So a quick resting check in on the coffee samples I gave out:
The Orange labeled Kenya is extremely light, probably 6 weeks of rest needed here
.
The other ones I'd say probably around 5 weeks of rest.
I don't know what I was drinking a couple weeks ago but my palate must have been calibrated to some light stuff lol.
Tasting notes are pretty much the same so that's good. However I did have a typo on the Yellow Peru Gesha. The third note was supposed to be Lychee not Lime, copy paste mistake from the Kenya.
I’m good for any of those dates, but September is probably better!
@fossil cobalt @slim ridge
Plz tag others so I don’t get
Edit: all 3 dates available at this time!

@uneven ravine @clever thistle @urban night
Also will work to coordinate something better food wise
I'll be in Europe until mid October so won't be able to make it this time
Voted for the 13th.
scheduling maybe tricky for Q4 but will check back in a few months re: collective availability for November or December
Can make any work, will be driving from Tampa/St Pete. Have basically all equipment I can bring with me. Hand grinders, EK w/brew burrs, decent, scales, kettles, ECT. Just LMK what's most needed 😊
I also have a 5-gallon jug with pump/spigot I can make water for us. Have access to Aviary Emperical water, TWW half strength (or less), and Apex drops.
I get DI water from work 🤣😉
I’ll bring my F58 & Zerno Z1 with HU burrs in it and MP burrs in the case
It's possible I will have my leaderboard coffees by then. Could bring that if people are interested.
I do them with my local group in St Pete usually
Yes to all of the above!
Esp would love to try the water drops
Created a new tab for Fall event; feel free to add content and columns as needed!
Will miss you this time around! Hopefully we can all regroup towards the end of year
Pm
Anybody coming? https://www.tampabaycoffeeandartfestival.com/
I’ll look into it! Would be cool if I can swing it, had no idea this was happening so thank you for posting
Yeah ofc, my mom just sent it to me 🤣🤣
@thorn spoke are you in here already?
Nope, Oh nice! Didn't know there was Florida meetups
If that meetup is in the fall I would love to make it out, I got 80mm special steels in a 807 if anybody wanted to try them
Nice! Our first one was hosted in my neighborhood in June and we’ll get a date firmed up this week when the poll closes for the next meetup
Full disclosure, I'm a roaster, I dunno how these meetups work, hopefully that doesn't disqualify me from attending. I'm not purple because I'm not the most discord savvy person and I simply just don't talk about my business/roasting on here
I'm generally on here for gear talk, burr talk mainly
You’re absolutely welcome here and at the meetups. A few of us here are roasters (no biz) and we shared some of our roasts during the meetup for fun
I’m not purple either and am not trying to be per se ||#1 GoodSwitch Shill
and owner||
^ tbh this was one of the best parts about the meetup, getting exciting samples LOLLL
Heyyyyy!
What’s ur roast biz named, if you’re ok to share
Genre coffee
It’s great btw
no disqualifications here, i brought my brother-in-law that doesn't drink coffee and he still had fun 🤣
Thanks!
Wheatgrass or coal?
Oh I got a orphan espresso apex as well, can show y'all that monstrosity
ty for the reminder, i completely forgot xd
Between the two maybe, about to start leaning heavy into the wheatgrass
Where do you sell this?
genre.coffee
I'm going to pre-rest the home-roasts this time I think. Not sure if giving them out and telling everyone to wait 5+ weeks is was the best idea idk lol.
I have a lot of washed African options that I'm choosing between and maybe a couple other coffees if roasting experiments go well.
It was very much appreciated
I don’t know if @stable summit and @sharp heart ever check EAF anymore
I'm also "in the industry" but we're also all coffee nerds and allowed to enjoy that 🫶
lol I’ve been busy with the baby life
If @limber stag you want, I could put a story about the meetup on insta.
Why not!?
Ok I will spread the word
We got a date yet?
Not yet, but poll closes tomorrow - looks like 9/13 is in the lead
Damn, the would be the one date I couldn't make it, big boxing fan and the biggest fight of the year is that day, but if it does end up on that day I will be there in spirit
Haha it's my wife and Is anniversary, but she told me the dates to click and that was one of them
5 hours left!
<@&738986689749450769> could you kindly pin 📌 this post?
Damn. Beat me
Great to see you all meeting up. We just had the DMV meetup yesterday.
EAFlorida 🐊
Looking forward to the 2nd meetup! First one was a huge hit
DMV has a solid group (also LA group seems legit too) would love to attend one day and meet some of the folks IRL
Damn, we need EAFLorida t-shirts

Yeah! It’s great to see the hubs forming. Ours was #2 also. Enjoy
There’s gotta be at least one graphic designer in our group of weird coffee ppl
Added EAFlorida to my IG bio. I really like that haha
kinda close, but not sure if we want the tail of the arrow, this is the limit of my technical abilities in this domain
Need to superimpose Rick Scott on the stonks guy
EAFlorida! Next meetup date/time? I will likely open up at 9 so those bringing equipment can setup early - allowing multiple answers so plz indicate which dates you’re available. Checking clubhouse availablity currently

Do we need a recount
48-hr 2 choice?
:P
22 hours left, but seems pretty decided at this point! 9/6 out in the lead by a healthy margin of 5 votes
I'm stoked because I can make the 9/6 event
Looks like we might get enough people this time to have to put a bit of planning into table space/layout and not tripping breakers lol. Pretty excited though, the first meet was really fun even with a smaller group.
I voted for 9/13 but I should still be able to make the 9/6. Looks like it’s 9/6 by a wide margin lol
do we have an expected location?
@clever thistle may
Working on it. Will confirm this weekend 🫶
Yea, I work on the 9/6 but can stop by early and or drop off coffees I don’t want like last time
def down to meet earlier!
^ same here
Same, I'm down for whatever time, I only got like 3 hour drive or so and I'll wake up however early to get there
I'm gonna bring my orphan espresso apex and try to sell some people on ghost burrs, really underappreciated geometry imo
Not to mention the workflow is comically painful and should be witnessed
Definitely wanna try some soup off that oxo if you are bringing it Rusty, I almost bought one because they are cheap but I might as well wait and try some at the meet and see how I feel before purchasing
I'm not a espresso guy but I think I can get behind souping maybe
I’m definitely bringing it. @limber stag has one too
We are both souping it up like crazy on that gadget
It’s the best $30 I’ve spent and has me questioning all of my expensive coffee related purchases
I'm gonna pop some l-theanine that morning and go in
So does @fossil canopy - so we’ll be souping!
Tiebreaker!

Sat 9/6: 9-2p
I brewed on mine a couple times at the last meet and people really seemed to like it. I'm sure there will be a lot of soup going around this time lol.
Sorry honey, I'm busy gettin beaned with the bros from 7 am to 7 pm
We gonna get zoooted
@tacit gull
Is that supposed to lessen the effects of caffeine? I may need to get some
It does, in my experience.
Helps with the jitters and fuzzy/foggy brain
Also, just drink tons of water
How many mg do you take usually?
Shit, I'd have to check my bottle. Typically 1 pill on a 400-600mg day and 2 for a 600+
They are in my desk at work. 🤣
Hmm okay. Yeah I usually grab nutricost brand supplements (they just look the least snake oil ish lol), it says 200mg but the caption reads “double strength” so who knows
Im sure a double dose won’t kill me. To the checkout I go
Mine are 200mg. Found the order
Sweeeet. Thanks
For sure 😊
Usually around my third cup I start vibrating. Should be helpful 🤣🤣🤣
Same here. I do drink a TON of water though.
I need to drink more water lol
It really does help. 😊
I try not to measure my caffeine intake. I think it might spook me
How many pour overs is that?
But I'm done with caffeine before 2pm usually
(Or double shots)
A mix. At work I brew Aiden batches for people. So I just pour from that
At home it's like 3-7 not drinking all of any of them
3-7 cups of coffee?!
Dang, why
Crazy
Can't develop the palate without something to drink
I suppose
I just got an xbloom for work a week or so ago so it’s way too easy to make a bunch of coffees lol
I've found a lot of fun dialing in coffee at work for people
I strongly considered this
I feel like somebody’d report me for wasting time if I brewed more than 2 cups by hand
OMG... I brewed ChemeX in the early days for people
🤣
I still brew a pretty good one.
So far the machine is killer. Pop a filter in the dripper, drop the beans in the chute and hit start. Plus having it “plumbed” into a jug with TWW no need to refill the puny tank
My coworker and I used to do pour over at work but then I brought in a moccamaster and everything changed 🤣
But xbloom is way better at light roast
For sure. I brew pretty soluble stuff at work for people. September normal is about as light as I do for them.
It's also a very mixed group, so that's also about as light as they'll enjoy
Probably for the best
A few of my coworkers are tea drinkers so the light roast isn’t too crazy. If I call it “tea coffee” and hand it to them, usually it goes well lol
Never heard of them, they local?
That’s awesome. I don’t have too many local roasters in the rotation. Usually gotta drive >1hr for third wave stuff
Not a ton in the state TBH
Starting to pop up though. Hex surprised me recently. Quite tasty cup
Never heard of them either.
I know bad mother isn’t too far from me but I didn’t think they roast?
Oh shit, NVM they are NC I think
They do not, you're in my hood. I live in St pete
Right on! LPCX over there is awesome Colombian food!
St. Pete is about an hour from me, so not terrible for a Saturday outing I suppose
Good coffee, not super light, but it's good
Another one I haven’t heard of, that’s awesome I’d better start getting a list together
Daycation in St Pete has BANGIN signature drinks. And the owner is the most awesome person
There are some spots worth hitting, for sure.
I need to find a good matcha place too. I have yet to try matcha and I refuse to let Starbucks be my introduction to that drink
Fair, Daycation has that as well. They just generally take great care with their drinks
So the matcha is likely great
Elevenses over on your side of the bridge has AWESOME pastries and also has some awesome baristas
They don't always do PO, but they will do well if they do
Owner and one of the baristas are friends and amazing people.
They usually have a co-ferment on spro
Wild shit
Ooooh I’ve never had a coferment on spro
A theme? Lol
Yeah, she does them periodically
The Peculiar Pop-Up

@fossil canopy finally starting to dig into these samples, absolutely killer this one
Got a good chuckle when I saw “warshed”
Brewing this now
Clean bed, LUs finally seasoned
Glad you like it! I've been working hard to really dial roasts in since then and I think they'll be a lot better for the upcoming meet too.
The downside is I'm adding to my freezer backlog with homeroasts now lol.
thanks to @queen prairie for gifting me his seasoning beans! they were instrumental in seasoning the burrs - along with my unpotable homeroasts
Glad you got some use out of them
Some green just arrived that likely will end up at the meet. Got these, Kinini Village Rwanda, and 3 washed eths not sure which to bring yet: Layo Teraga, Alo Bona Zuria, and Getachew. Probably the Layo bc it's extremely clean and delicate but all of them are great tbh.
I may also bring the Hunge v2 to the next meetup @safe bison because we had to keep splitting shots and PO of tiny doses
#1159142766354386995 message
Dude wtf have you done lmao
@limber stag we should connect your 2 OXO rapid brewers and my two OXO rapid brewers into a oxo rapid bong
For meme research purposes
Can add mine as well for 5 of them. 3 for water 2 + the basket for coffee if we want a usable ratio maybe?
World record sized espresso shot incoming?
PERFECT, was going to say w/ 4 chambers, we're just shy of "the pound"
We can refill mid brew if we want to have most of them filled with coffee too lmao.
Assuming we use a good bit of water the stuff at the top will be comically overextracted and the opposite for the coffee at the bottom.
Hit two shops in Orlando this morning. Haan was a miss, well brewed PO but there was FOR SURE a co-ferment made before mine 😢. Deeply had filter and some of the best batch I have had in a WHILE. DROP coffee El Sal washed 🤌
I have a soft spot for well brewed batch coffee.
Deeply got good batch every time I've been
got a couple samples of this incredible coffee from b&w frozen and ready to go for september

I’ll make a trip back to get some!
Hi EAFlers - we're landed on 9/6 and will be able to accommodate the early am into the later afternoon.
Def open to ideas for food (AM and PM?). I'll be hosting the meetup at the same location as last time (details in the spreadsheet - should be pinned still)
Also could you make an official insta page too, no rush, but would nice to have up before the meetup
Is it crazy that I'm thinking about selling the R24 already? Have only been drinking Filter for quite a while
Wish I hadn't sold the Peppina hahaha
What’s an R24
get an Oxo!
Thatsalottadoodads
Gorgeous machine
Love it
It's a mess at the moment, but just can't find the motivation to go through it and tidy up
Which of the pour over widgets did you use the least
Tbh, yes but I'm also not suprised
I got such a deal on it, I couldn't pass it up
I knew this was gonna happen from the moment you sold the peppina
Yeah I should have kept it
I don't like the chrome box look tbh
Love the Peppina
Might go for a golden LP if I do decide to still the R24
Can't decide what to do, but it doesn't bring me joy
And I don't use it for myself, just for the wife and even then it always goes in milk
Half tempted to trade it for a p100/01 with brews
I bet the heatup is also causing friction to wanting to use it if you don't normally make espresso everyday and have it auto turn on with timer
Oh it's on 12 hours a day lol
I make at least one drink a day on it
Lmao
Do steam with it or just use the dreo?
Dreo since it's 80% iced latte

Like I said, just feels like a huge waste to have a LR24 for this usage lol
If I loved the aesthetic, that's a little different
I've been anti chrome box from the beginning tbf
Tbf, you also bought a strega before this
👀
Yeah, mistakes were made
Everyone here knows I like to throw away money 💸 💸
I will make sure to bring shoebox lerida to the meetup

Your xbloom inspired me
