If you want an all in one solution you can abuse when visiting patents on the other hand. You’ll like having it there ehhhh

But yeah, if they’re like my parents they won’t appreciate the quality gain

If I want to impress my parents I just pour them some latte art and make them a latte tbh. They’re happier and I’m happier than if I give them a pricy pour over that doesn’t ā€œtaste like coffeeā€

desert stirrup
desert stirrup
#

My parents actually enjoy the pourover I make. My mom especially enjoy red fruit coffees. My dad is split. Sometimes he really digs it like the cinnamon coferment from B&W. Other times he just says ā€œit’s not strong enoughā€. I then ask if he wants a higher concentration or just bitterness. He doesn’t know. I brew him a 1:15 and a stupidly over extracted cup next. He still says he wants something ā€œstrongā€

My parents use a French press to brew my beans. And a keurig for others

desert stirrup
#

Also I gave up on helping my parents drink good coffee

#

They had a dookie cuisinart machine. I gave them a Moccamaster and they shipped it back to me 🫠

#

So whatever

#

I tried and provide resources. After that I’m not going to sweat to help another. It’s their choice in the end

boreal solar
#

Is the cuisinart machine a traditional drip machine?

#

And yeah, sometimes it’s better to let sleeping dogs lay. My parents don’t really listen to me either and it’s fine at the end of the day. It’s really hard to change an opinion that’s been sculpted for decades.

desert stirrup
#

It’s dookie

#

My dad is deluded into believing it’s good but nobody ever drinks from it but him

#

He also bitches about it allllllll the time

#

So I have no idea why he keeps it around. But again, I went to Texas last Winter, tried my best to teach, equip, and empower. There is no more I can do

desert stirrup
#

It’s so fucking oxymoronic

#

He obviously desires good and better coffee. He buys his greens from eBay so we all know it’s produced via child or slave labor, then he roasts it in his small home drum roaster. He then puts those beans in the cuisinart and says the same ā€œah so good! Tastes like chocolate and florals and sweetā€

#

Then a few days later bitches about how his coffee isn’t ā€œstrongā€

#

It’s an absurd cycle of insanity

boreal solar
#

My parents also use a crap ton of creamer or sugar. So I can see why they like the roastiness shining through. By the time they’re done most nuance is lost.

#

I managed to convince my mom to drink lattes with just a little simple syrup and consider that victory. She now likes them more than her abominations so it’s something lol

desert stirrup
#

Haha yeah I was able to convince my mom to drink my PO black

#

I believe she now brews her own coffee in a Switch

#

But God only knows what coffee and technique she uses

boreal solar

I do take solace in the fact that my parents live next door to another roastery owner whose beans have been used by the world aeropress champion in a successful stint in the past… and hate his coffee too.

My parents have a cuisinart burr grinder too. the story behind it bothers me a bit. My mom wanted to buy a grinder for my dad for Christmas and asked me all these questions and I did my best to answer them and give her tips on grinders etc. spent a few hours cumulatively trying to explain to her what she needs and what I would buy. Then one day on her way home from work she stopped at a local specialty coffee store located at the local ymca. The barista there sold it to her saying it was really good. The pour over was alright. The most disappointing part for me. It was ground on a Varia, he eyeballs splitting the dose between two origami brewers, and he brews by senses/feel. So when it looks and smells how he expects.
He specifically calls out that fact and that the variations are how the coffee expresses in that moment. He has a Fellow scale he could have used, idk I'd have appreciated that part being a bit more elevated.
The "mixed brew" was akin to Endorffeine's cold brew and was good.
Then a milk brew. Coffee cold brewed in milk. I didn't get too much out of the coffee there but it was sorta dessert-esque.
Then a coffee mocktail that was inspired by an old fashioned. That was really good

#

It's pretty slow, that part is intentional. About 2hrs
It wasn't shilling his clothes but I was talking with him and he wants the clothing to continue and overall be somewhat of a lifestyle brand. We'll see how that goes.
He has consistent business and is exploring more, maybe a leased space.

There’s also companies that custom print whatever you want on the acoustic panel that way it’s not just a block of black or white. I would highly recommend doing a wide horizontal painting which could span 3-4 panels then put them side by side on the wall.
