The Logan is grape candy to the T
It is uncanny how much it tastes like a grape jolly rancher
Itās really good iced
I got the other bag
I wish I had gotten the Logan
but I have way too much coffee to order this as well
I got Logan and chorongi
Chorongi is a fun, bright, mouth watering tart cup
I wish I was financially unwise or financially spoiled
I wouldāve bought one of every bag
Maybe even two of every bag
Apollens gold is still in stock thoooooooo š
How much influence does a roaster have on texture/mouthfeel? I feel itās more about 1) how the coffee is made and 2) burrs
There's a lot of ayce near ondo 2
Only saw a single acaia lunar
If there were pearls, good on moving them. Lol
Didn't know there was dual ditting lab sweets
Destroyer a small cafe in Culver City has a mavam under bar š
Someone bought it yesterday
Now Im outta pearls
People have different definitions of coal these days. Sometimes if they develop a roast past those grassy undertones of florality itās considered coal. Even if itās a clean fruit forward or chocolatey profile imo.
I can buy coal for chocolate or caramel
but coal for just medium I think is an overexaggeration imo
I hate the term too. But I also hate the term boomer shot so what are you going to do? I see people calling 1:3 shots boomer shots now.
Slang is just weird
What is 1:1.5 then
Neanderthal shot
Ive always been curious
What did you enjoy from them?
Is that a restaurant
Upscale hipster breakfast/brunch
Same people behind vespertine
I would recommend if in the area but not something you seek imho
Actually just imo

Destroyer is like
What every cafe owner wants to do
But not what every customer wants
Maximize working retail space and limit seating?
goal accomplished today. finally got to try ondo choco in a latte.
in terms of the menu/offering and price lol
I'm the same way. I was not impressed with hydrangea and definitely got off flavors from his roasts. I steer clear
I havenāt enjoyed them as much since they switched to loring
This one was particularly unenjoyable
ohhh. they switched?
i just bought 2 based on past good experiences.
A while back
This was peak hydrangea for me
I have no idea man. I think thatās a good question
I wrote down the bag information
Maybe Iāll see if I can find them by another roaster
The Chiroso!
for some reason, it was much more funky than what i expected. not sure why i didn't think it'd be on the more fermented side with the Marmalade, passionfruit pidneapple
Huh
When I got it iced at Ondo it was just a pineapple mango passion fruit bomb
I didnāt get much funkiness
Maybe try it iced!
Iced?
As a pourover?
Fozencado fav pastime is to mansplain
While continuing explaining, was it an option when you asked for pourover?
I guess it was iced, but brewed on xbloom?
Trying to replicate at home since I do have all the tools.
Xbloom. B75 if needed.
But in any case. The beans do look more processed than what I usually see.
Should have him pull up to endorffeine and mansplain an iced cortado
At Ondo east Hollywood yea iced is $1 more and made on xbloom. Pretty sure itās ice dilute
https://share-h5.xbloom.com/?id=5%2FxFby8cm1U5IHzXdpuTew%3D%3D this is a recipe I created based on the glitch iced kalita recipe. Brew over 85-100g of ice depending on preferred strength.
I use it at home in the summer. It works alright.
If you use it, you may need to grind a little coarser. The bean I had it dialed in for likes a finer than typical grind.
Lil bit of paragon chilled rocks and a lil bit of ice
lol. I started reading at Avocados post. My bad. Sorry @weary chasm , I know you know that Japanese iced is a thing. I thought you were looking for a recipe for the xbloom. To be fair I was reading a book to my toddler and only half paying attention. Still, the recipe works pretty well. Give it a shot sometime.
Hahahahah
Iāve been outted and exposed
I appreciate the clarification. I didnāt understand what you were confused about. That will have to be a question for @cedar otter and how he does iced pour overs at Ondo 1.
I would guess XBloom flash brew at a 1:17 ratio.
Get this my bald headed brown friend. 2oz expresso and 2-2.5oz of that silly milky. Fuck loads of ice.
Donezo
I still need to go to endorffeine
Might do an endorffeine and Amboy day this week
Wait you can share XBloom recipes like Visualizer shots???!!!
Hold up XBloom just got a bit more tempting
I never looked into this machine because kettle over water makes good bean juice
But now Iām intrigued
I wonder if this would be a good machine for my obdurate parents
Straight up
Refuses to weigh shit
Anything
Scales are the devil it seems
Itās probably the best value to performance option out there for super auto on the home market. You need to use the integrated beans for your own beans. But I guess if they want to use pods they donāt have to weigh anything
Tbh Iāve never used pods with mine other than what it came with as a bonus š
Problem with the xbloom is that support straight up blows though tbh
if they care about freshness maybe xbloom, but honestly specialty instant packets are good enough
If you want an all in one solution you can abuse when visiting patents on the other hand. Youāll like having it there
But yeah, if theyāre like my parents they wonāt appreciate the quality gain
If I want to impress my parents I just pour them some latte art and make them a latte tbh. Theyāre happier and Iām happier than if I give them a pricy pour over that doesnāt ātaste like coffeeā
Yeah that might make it easier for them. That or simply tearing open the pre weighed out pod
Dawgg! This! I swear this is the true answer
My parents actually enjoy the pourover I make. My mom especially enjoy red fruit coffees. My dad is split. Sometimes he really digs it like the cinnamon coferment from B&W. Other times he just says āitās not strong enoughā. I then ask if he wants a higher concentration or just bitterness. He doesnāt know. I brew him a 1:15 and a stupidly over extracted cup next. He still says he wants something āstrongā
So I think thatās just his palette craving the coal
some dude in #alternative-brewing was using cinnamon in their grinds before brewing
Now weāre getting into masala chai territory
Taking mediocre medium roast and adding raw ground spices mixed in or on top does sound interesting
Mexicans have been doing this for decades
Cafe de olla
Coffee de olla is really common in LA. Iād be surprised if folks havenāt tried it.
Iāve seen a few specialty cafes even have it on their menu.
Itās really easy to make a cinnamon and piloncillo simple syrup to get some of the flavor there (though not authentic)
Rare to find good cafe de olla though.
Itās made with instant in most places Iāve had it in Mexico. So not that surprising lol
We might have iced cafe de olla
In the fall
Recipe made by a mexican barista so we gucci
Jk
Gusto Bread offers cafe de olla.
Smaller pulsar prototype spotted?
oh is pulsar mini finally coming out
its 58mm for smaller dosing while maintaining bed depth
been WIP for a while now
i don't think its worthwhile since its yet another machine to maintain.
you just need darker beans.
pumpkin spice season though.
pumpkin spice is very cinnamon forward. literal cinnamon i guess.
Why don't you give them a Mr. Coffee then?
My parents use a French press to brew my beans. And a keurig for others
The place across from Holbox is pretty good! I havenāt had cafe de olla in Mexico nor have I made it yet so Iām naive
Also I gave up on helping my parents drink good coffee
They had a dookie cuisinart machine. I gave them a Moccamaster and they shipped it back to me š«
So whatever
I tried and provide resources. After that Iām not going to sweat to help another. Itās their choice in the end
Is the cuisinart machine a traditional drip machine?
And yeah, sometimes itās better to let sleeping dogs lay. My parents donāt really listen to me either and itās fine at the end of the day. Itās really hard to change an opinion thatās been sculpted for decades.
Yeah. It has a grinder and a metal basket
Itās dookie
My dad is deluded into believing itās good but nobody ever drinks from it but him
He also bitches about it allllllll the time
So I have no idea why he keeps it around. But again, I went to Texas last Winter, tried my best to teach, equip, and empower. There is no more I can do
Man whatās wild is how my dad roasts his own coffee
Itās so fucking oxymoronic
He obviously desires good and better coffee. He buys his greens from eBay so we all know itās produced via child or slave labor, then he roasts it in his small home drum roaster. He then puts those beans in the cuisinart and says the same āah so good! Tastes like chocolate and florals and sweetā
Then a few days later bitches about how his coffee isnāt āstrongā
Itās an absurd cycle of insanity
My parents also use a crap ton of creamer or sugar. So I can see why they like the roastiness shining through. By the time theyāre done most nuance is lost.
I managed to convince my mom to drink lattes with just a little simple syrup and consider that victory. She now likes them more than her abominations so itās something lol
Haha yeah I was able to convince my mom to drink my PO black
I believe she now brews her own coffee in a Switch
But God only knows what coffee and technique she uses
I do take solace in the fact that my parents live next door to another roastery owner whose beans have been used by the world aeropress champion in a successful stint in the past⦠and hate his coffee too.
https://www.quietlycoffee.com/ for reference
Beautiful coffee roasted in the Ontario countryside. Our mission is to re-imagine the possibilities for a cup of coffee. Through meticulous sourcing, careful and precise roasting, and an unending dedication to always do more, we want to show that each coffee is unique because every cup quietly tells a story.
Bruh
Hahahaha
My parents are stingy and used to the prices of greens on eBay
So they never buy roasted coffee I bet
My parents just take samples from my cafe
Sometimes they end up with panama geishas

It sounds like your dad and my dad are the same guy. My dad loves his gaggia super auto but complains that my coffee (DE1 and Z1) is way better than what he gets out of the gaggia š
Hard to mess up a switch brew though.
Mmmm Panama geisha brewed with a blade grinder and French press using water off the boil, a couple tbsps for measuring and a five minute extraction time.
My parents have a cuisinart burr grinder too. the story behind it bothers me a bit. My mom wanted to buy a grinder for my dad for Christmas and asked me all these questions and I did my best to answer them and give her tips on grinders etc. spent a few hours cumulatively trying to explain to her what she needs and what I would buy. Then one day on her way home from work she stopped at a local specialty coffee store located at the local ymca. The barista there sold it to her saying it was really good. Itās not even like she got Walmart pricing since it was a small shop selling flavored coffees and coffee from other random first and second wave roasters.
my mom used to use the clever dripper with no measurements lol
good brews some day bad brews some other days
My joke wasnāt that far off then, lol
Sharpie the outside so it's at least consistent and then send it

Is this for the forseeable future? Or you're still figuring out some solution
I have 3 orders coming in this week š
Did they go up?
Greens
I have no idea
I donāt look at that market
And speaking to my dad about roasting coffee is like speaking to a chef with no tongue
Don't. Lol
Home roasting is a trap
Brewing coffee at home is a trap too. But we're too deep
Brewing coffee at home is chill
Roasting seems hard af
How do you know if these greens would do better as medium rather light?
Trial and error?
I can sell you a 3kg yoshan
Trial and error
Yeah fuck that
Isn't that brewing too?
Is this better as an espresso or a pourover
Or as a latte
Or which recipe should I use?
Which brewer, grinder should I use? Which water.
All trial and error
It's just the cycle for brewing is a lot shorter than roasting. So you can iterate faster
But you do get some general rules
You can get hints from other roasters on their roast level
"why shouldn't I roast it light?" and then you do.
Then you're like. "OK. So this is why"
If roasting was brainless everyone would do it.
yep. Was in the process of upgrading my video setup for property shoots and ran into major issues sourcing a more current uav. Stuck with rolling shutter for the forseeable future š”
The more expensive the green is the more room you have to roast however you want
that's what ruli coffee does in seoul
takes panama geshas and takes them to 2nd crack or just before 2nd
And then ship them back to Ondo uno?
Oh snaps. Got anything in mind?
You should do the fish shaped pastries with custard.
Hotteok š
My man
We must cater to the audience
Artesia = Indians
I say you some dank Jalebi with some coffee
Youāll have every single brown, flip flop wearing, coconut oil drenched hair mofo in line within a 10 mile radius
Trust me
Do you have any coffee that's been aged? Reason I ask is I need coffee sooner rather than later lmao.
Uhhh I have some datura
Which store ?
Thanks!
Does anyone have a copy of, or have placed an order for, Jonathan Gagne's new book, The Physics of Espresso?
Too much info given
I thought it was open!
False
Hours of operation
4pm - 9pm
Ok ok ok
Damn thatās blows
But Joy slaps!
So not a complete loss
My first time
Good but kinda dont understand the plain pancake
Just put the damn scallions in there
I think Liuās Cafeās pork over rice is a lil better
Creamy Boys!
Hokey Pokey
Smoooooooooooooooth
The toffee is fine but crunchy. Itās generously sprinkled on top and itās through the ice cream too
Iām not sure how itās crispy and spread throughout the ice cream but it is. Itās a glorious contradiction
$8.25 after tax
Literally just tried this for the first time on friday
Small/kid size was plenty for me
Normal size good to share
Wish it had more toffee
Be a man and tell us total after tip
$6.75 after tip.
tip: saying āstay in schoolā to distract them while snagging a buck fitty from the jar
$8.25
I donāt tip unless I am waited on or at a service like a barber
Iām ruthless with it
Idgaf
I worked as a server in Texas where my hourly was $2.50. Here in California everyone is getting the $15-16.75/hr and then tips
If you're in fast food I think it's $20/hr, but no tips?
In this state we definitely should not be tipping. In Texas, we should be tipping only because the system is unethical af and it sadly lays the burden on the customer
Yeah, thatās correct. That is the logic
With fast food nobody tips so their income was always less than working at a sit down restaurant
I think the culture got a bit more on the tip side since you can get the point of sale device to do the asking
Hermosa beach or El Segundo?
I didnāt know about Hokey Pokey and how one of the brothers went off and made Creamy Boys in the South Bay
Also
@compact hound you drive A LOT
Great for businesses I guess. If you don't ask you don't get
You were at Joy just a bit ago
Then Creamy Boys???
Homie
Do you live in your car?
I think it perpetuates the problem of restaurant workers continually being shafted
Nobody gets paid well
Nobody gets treated well
Nobody gets benefits
Tips can also be tax write offs for the business owner but a tax liability for the employee
verve baristas are unionizing for better pay and benefits š«”
This is a coffee chat, Iāll tame my thoughts and words. At the same time, itās sad to see how this country is just a business and really nothing more. Everything is sided towards the business and nothing towards the people who help create the value.
This is phenomenal to hear
Iām really glad to hear that
Tipping in California makes no sense, and especially after OBB passed
I would love to see your professional bracket unionize actually
Medical professionals are shafted so terribly and unlike restaurant workers, we desperately need you
So the leverage is immense, even though it is unethical is levied
healthcare unions are so fucked
nurses have their own unions, pharmacists have their own union, no consistency across hospitals
its ok i will quit in 5-10 years
I didnāt know nurses and pharmacists have their own unions!
I need to tell my mom to hop on that if possible. Sheās a pharmacist at a rural hospital in Texas
unions are hospital specific not actual any sort of union other than with your coworkers
its a mess and a waste of time for most hospitals too tbh
Link if you donāt have an account:
This is upsetting to hear
I would like to see a national wide nursing union
A national reform to residents so they are sleep deprived
uci has been protesting as a union like 5 times the last 3 months and nothing has changed
Aw man
That's cool. I used to use Google translate English to English until they disabled it.
When reading this article, just view it from the California lens. The bartender/retail worker is a great split because here they make the same in wages.
It used to let you bypass the pay wall
I used to use the GitHub chrome extension
Hermosa broski
So true. Iām one of the few departments left that hasnāt been unionized at my hospital. I would wager 1/3 of my coworkers will quit the day they force it on us.
Not anymore.. they're tax free. Personally tipping around 10% when I used to do 20-25% :/
My income is taxed, everyone's should be taxed
I just went to Sunset & Vinyl, such a chill space and fantastic drinks. I was chatting with the bartender who made a number of them on the menu including the "Dark Star" which balanced whiskey and espresso really well. I think it was whiskey, amaretto, walnut bitters, espresso
Kaiser social workerās union scored a pretty significant victory a few months back.
Nurses union trying to do the same currently I believe
My goal is to provide my staff with better pay and benefits so they donāt even think about unionizing

Huh, til the minimum age is lower in Orange County vs LA county. Your two locations had me thinking
I hope Bryan will hire me when I quit healthcare and work for fun
You should help us launch our own cryptocurrency named Ondo
Wait
True but it took them almost 200 days. I couldnāt last that long.
Im all for them unionizing if it benefits them. Im glad their mental/social health service is going to get better. It was terrible.
My department navigates in a ājust donāt tell HR what weāre up toā kind of mindset.
Kaiser is terrible work mindset in general where everyone is there bc the pay and not bc they like working there
Yeah but I also noticed shops in OC actually pay higher bc 1) itās harder to find quality worker and 2) people tip way less
In OC
Itās half as much as LA percentage wise
LA we average 9-11%
OC itās like 4-7%
š
And they constantly complain about cup size and price
And how itās not a good place to āworkā in
Yāall ever heard of WeWork? š¤£
I'm very happy to be past the point where I want to work in a cafe
I would like to retire from healthcare and work in a cafe once a week
With how rude people are???
I've dealt w worse in retail pharmacy
Lmao
Tbh all the customers in east hollywood are way nicer than anywhere else weāve worked at
Everyone who works for us tells us this
LA people are nice for the most part tbh. Iāve been surprised whenever I visit.
OC and IE people are pleasant too. Although they tend to be more traditional in mindset overall.
Iām not a fan of the people that reside in and rep OC hard so I find this quite funny
Iām glad I never had that point in my life š
Is this romanticized? Lol
Have two family relatives saying if we ever open up a minimalist (Scandinavian style) coffee shop, they'd work there for two months (and then quit) to live the dream...
lol maybe?
Iām not in tech and donāt do remote work
So I was mostly thinking back to when I was a student
Also at this point there are very few places that make better coffee than what Iām capable of at home
So if Iām going to a cafe itās for immaculate vibes or something really special
Def better to my tastes for what I make at home
But currently chasing creating the ideal latte to sell to customers. š
*but I think they just want to live out that drama coffee life that gets portrayed...
Interesting. I wonder if itāll be priced compellingly. Or if itll be close enough to the p01 that no one will really care. With the pricing of the p64, Iām assuming the later.
If they can get it together sub $2000 with lagom build quality Iāll be impressed
i think the only way its a competitve price is replacing the p64 entirely w 80mm
asian mindset
P64 can be had second hand for close to 1-1.2k
Also anyone listen to endorffeine jacks interview with David Chang?
On this episode, Dave interviews Jack Benchakul, owner and sole barista at Endorffeine Coffee, which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year. The two talk about Jack's path to Endorffeine, as well as coffee culture and history. They also deep-dive into their opposing philosophies on reaching the same goal: finding contentment. For their eatin...
Just started it myself
I can't imagine it's under $2000, over $2000 minimum
- P64 $1800
- P100 $2650
- 01 $2650
- P80? $2200 probably
Imagine instead of p80 it's lagom02
Best part of the interview

Visited my house š«” foundation pouring tomorrow
Apparently I'm still on track for January
do I believe them? Idk
Whelp. Every step towards being finished is nice
Marathon forward
yoo thats dope
Look at the bright side, theyāre rebuilding your home in less time than people have spent waiting for a meticulous.
Iām glad itās coming along. Iām sure theyāre motivated to hit January
Yep lumber arrives in 2 weeks and then they go vertical
Pretty excited to see progress being made for sure but Jan seems super unrealistic
Might have to pay out of pocket for rent for an extra 6 months after my 1 year is up but that's fine tbh
I wonder what's the current spot called. Enough pictures to find out
Specialties: Welcome to Melrose High Tideā Your Local Coffee Spot on Melrose

Just turn it into a trap house
Monetize the ADU
I might just fight insurance to extend the rent payments
I would never pay for my place myself
3k/month for 900sqft
Have to imagine it's a response to the zerno z2? High end 80/83mm
Ooooh
The place just opened too https://yelp.to/0Im74WFyqf
Their overhead must be insane if they are selling for 75k
They are right next to that olive and james place too
I believe
I'll bring red rope and a giant scissor
10 reviews
went to school around that area though and nothing on that side of melrose lasts tbh
im just super jealous they built a taco bell right in front of my alma mater hs
btw are there any meetups coming up? and would love to chat specialty coffee with some people IRL. (i'm in west LA rn and often in south OC for work stuff so a lot of room in between to meetup some time.)
Nothing planned
Had one not too long ago
Donāt see another one happening for at least another couple months
Hey I have foundation and can host a meet w no power or water š¤”
Meanwhile im going opposite direction
Always expect to double the time
Weāre actually gonna go see the space. Is it time for gofundme?
Ayo? š Ondo 3 this soon?
We can prolly host illegal mahjong games in the back lmao
Yeah why am I seeing mahjong boba parties in SGV
They're all "beginner friendly w no gambling"
Idk if I believe them
Itās like the Asian massage parlor that says we donāt do anything illegal
Itās literally next door to a hyped cafe tho
Not sure if our strategy of opening next to a busy shop is working out
I have better odds playing memestock options casino š
Tell me your degened Open without telling me you degened open
I actually opened a position today bc I like the CEO bc I used to follow Shopify a lot 𤔠and the pay package is appealing
Only 3k thou am up 2k
I hate stocks that are up on nothing substantial
No actual numbers
So pltr
I've been in pltr since they turned profitable bc I saw their flywheel potential
Ay yo sign me up
Wow. That's relatively new
borderlands 4 not optimized and barely hits 60fps on 5090
i shouldve gone for a better gpu rather than being midrange
What res?
4k apparently
owell i guess ill play 1080
i try to do 1440p for any single player game but i guess i cant
I use super res a lot on my AMD based systems. Probably could get away with something similar but Iām not sure how well the NVIDIA equivalent is.
I think they showed off the game at upscaled 1440p with a 5090
Idk didn't look too much into it
Iām not really an fps guy these days. So I havenāt really looked either. Was mostly curious how bad my own setup is now.
(FPS as in first person shooter)
Shooter wise Iām more interested in Doom the Dark Ages for the single player campaign.
with some settings tweaked it runs fine apparently
just ships with dogshit defaults
How was the space?!
prolly have to be next week
fish taco recs better than taco nazo?
first robusta! Roasting tips appreciatedā¦
Tbh Colton and San Bernardino lowkey have better tacos than LA
prob, LA tacos midddd
I used to like Guisados when in the mood, not sure how theyāre doing now that they have 900 locations though.
No tips. But I'm curious what your results will be like. If you roast it light, what is it like. If you roast it dark. š
"why shouldn't I roast robusta ultra light?"
Iād probably go easy with the temp. But I canāt say Iāve done an anaerobic processed robusta so it may behave differently
I doubt Iāll do a light roast on this at least at first. Prob med (filter with milk) & a med/dark for spro blend. They published a cupping score of 85 I think which is wild. Grown around 700 meters. Gotta do density measurements but prob will go lower and slower initially
I actually donāt know if it would be gross ultra light Iāve just read that š
Yes. You don't know. You need to try it.
ššš
It'll probably be bad.
Eh, the processing will probably help.
yeah but the caffeine will kill meā¦
Iād start medium light. Maybe 12% dv.
Petitgrain second try is a lot better than i remembered
Still solid, at least the one in Redondo.
They mainly do stewed meats (birria) so kinda hard to mess that up imo
i still need to redeem my play coin
but maybe i don't ever redeem it.
what time did you go? whenever i go they never have the pistacio
Need to see how that new spot Salted Butter Co stacks up
tried going yesterday as they are literally stone's throw from the roastery
but they close at 2
and yesterday was extra long roasting session so I got there at like 2:20
looks promising
but they serve lacolombe coffee apparently
š itās ok Iām never interested in any of the coffee at these bakeries
Watching them make lattes at Santa Canela was hilarious
Thatās an opportunity
Easy delivery and logistics
la colombe's draft lattes are good
Ya thats on my radar
Got there at 1! I wanted to try the cinnamon roll but they didnt have any
This one is actually a lemon pistachio
Lemon curd filling is really nice
Just wish it had more of it
The pistachio filling is just fine though
I think the pistachios on top is enough
I was literally there yesterday
This was 11:45
š
And peanut butter cookies
I literally walk across the st and it's there. Problem being I work 2pm so yeah I'm also there late
I canāt help but wonder if the morning buns are bad š
I got it bc it was all that was left? It was ok nothing special and def not 6$ worth
Maybe 4-5
Atleast they look pretty generous size wise
@cedar otter the big group next to me was losing their minds over the coffee at Ondo 2 haha. I think they got the Sidra as an Americano? Anyway they loved it
And they went to Blue Stone Lane recently and said that was trash in comparison
Bub and Grandmaās is good. Better than Lasortedās, on par with secret, maybe a little better. Apolloniaās still best.
Reminds me of pizza Iāve had in NJ and CT.
Do they have dine-in?
Was thinking i should wait until they stabilize before trying
Dont want an off trip to ruin it for me
They had some space for standing at counter eating with napkins, but no seating.
Stood in line for about 20 min right when they opened.
Tastes pretty dialed to me, I think youāre safe trying it whenever. Donāt see a need to wait.
The butter co somewhere there
i anticipate it being more a play issue than tim issue
roast was actually fine it was definitely teetering on stale though
and it was under extracted
nothing i can complain about though. that's just coffee
Ya I been drinking tim past few weeks and it's ok? I had better samples from them last year
That sounds wild
Very curious where you end up, an 86 is high
ā¹ļø I have Karogoto resting. Was hoping itād be better than the last Tim I had a while ago
turning off like vol fog and stuff seems to help. i can hit 230-240 fps on DLSS4
But that's basically just 60fps without frame gen. 60fps on top end system is pretty bad optimization for the game still lol
2xko!
I decided to just buy on console after seeing the performance problems
I agree Apollonias is best. Secret up there but need to revisit.
This was early summer? So hopefully your batch is better.
When did you go
What street is this? Prolly can see my roastery as well
That's w California š
Haha if u angle it -> this way a little more thatās the roastery
I could visit u before work
2021?
Popping back in here, been a while, had to move out of CA for school stuff, very much miss having the option of going to a multicafe for browsing crazy coffees. Should be coming back sometime in december for christmas with the fam.
Anyway, I was trying to figure out if I should get a paragon espresso and somehow this channel seems to be the place paragon is mentioned the most
, I remember long ago using frozen cups or steel whiskey cubes to do the chilling, do y'all think it's worth getting over those just something to put on the christmas wishlists for 'nice coffee things'.
xmas wishlist for me personally lol
i just use a new sink strainer with whiskey cubes
am I about to be a Stanley owner
should I stock some for the holidays hah
Making the pilgrimage
nice
Tesla diner food is ok? Kinda over priced
Fits the brands image then.
Across the street from the kpop popup so I had to try
but yeah it's meh
Came to try wallflour pizza
Mid?
Havent tried
Nooo, but this time it wasnāt the best. Tortilla slightly overcooked
Prob my fav burrito in LA
Cheese pie was my fav, the rest were mid (fennel sausage and pep). Pricey though. 90 for 3 pies with tip
Sounds about right these days
Yeah, very different. Palma is true Mexican burrito
Gotta eat at least 3
Noted
No sides or drinks
Jinsol Gukbap Buena Park better than ktown location
Was Beverly Soon kbbq good? I recall loving the spicy bulgogi
Never been
Surawon overrated af though
The tofu itself is nice but soup and galbi were very okay
It closed two years ago š
Bcd š«”
I think kaju does spicy better and their banchan is better but overall it's the same
I wish BCD did kimchi cucumber bc I would go more
Dealbreaker
I havenāt been to BCD since I was like 7
Costco has cucumber kimchi in some stores, it's what's been holding off my korean food cravings when I still haven't found a great place for sundubu out in denver
I miss LA
So like a couple of years ago
anyone got dinner recs for Los Feliz area? Gonna catch a show at the Greek tmrw evening. I know there's a ton of Thai spots but we just had that, so open to everything else
Kismet
Soak in the sunset at Barnsdall after
I personally think it makes a perceptible though small benefit
though not BANA approved Glitch is one of my favorite roasters and cafes and they use it for everything
mechanistically I can't think that there's any benefit using the paragon over whiskey stones or something or even a stainless steel bearing
that being said I just made a cup of the Risaralda Milan with the paragon and it's so good
See you there!
Yemeni coffee shop š¤
i have a friend with a 5090 + 9800x3d and he was laughing off my warnings about performance
he got through about 2 hours before crashing every few minutes
i'd love to join in but like...this is wilds all over again lol
I felt the gratitude
Very tangible
I enjoyed it ĀÆ_(ć)_/ĀÆ
Idk how much I want to say, I'm a bit biased that I didn't pay and we studied together in college
The last course is a tangible item, so yeah ahah
Okay I'll say some
The pour over was alright. The most disappointing part for me. It was ground on a Varia, he eyeballs splitting the dose between two origami brewers, and he brews by senses/feel. So when it looks and smells how he expects.
He specifically calls out that fact and that the variations are how the coffee expresses in that moment. He has a Fellow scale he could have used, idk I'd have appreciated that part being a bit more elevated.
The "mixed brew" was akin to Endorffeine's cold brew and was good.
Then a milk brew. Coffee cold brewed in milk. I didn't get too much out of the coffee there but it was sorta dessert-esque.
Then a coffee mocktail that was inspired by an old fashioned. That was really good
It's pretty slow, that part is intentional. About 2hrs
It wasn't shilling his clothes but I was talking with him and he wants the clothing to continue and overall be somewhat of a lifestyle brand. We'll see how that goes.
He has consistent business and is exploring more, maybe a leased space.
How was this? I see this place when I drive home from Culver
Meh, but it was a fun concept. Latte tasted a bit more spiced than usual so that was nice. But nothing specialty about it . They did serve Turkish coffee and I recall someone asking where they can cop.
Would it add if it was ground on an eg-1? (or ek43?)
As long as business is good.
Maybe a bit?
But yeah business is good so..
Yeah. Winning erases all sins...
Was the coffee mocktail normal coffee or decaf
Normal coffee. I think he said he used the "mixed brew" (cold brew) for it
Overall I feel like it would be kinda expensive at $125 but I could see myself doing that once
As long as the vibes is good
$125 is insane
I got hit by a lie
If it sells out... Is it bad or good?
@surreal pivot def had an off experience
I was about to ask stop screenshotting videos bc I def pressed play
Just fyi Blue Bottle Studio was less than $100 but it packed wayyyyyy more
seems like it was done purposely. š©
at $125, i would do sushi omakase. lol.
i did recently buy a random vietnamese book for $80 though. so who am i to say what is value.
Coffee is deeply rooted in the culture of Viį»t Nam, an intrinsic part of the countryās history and society for over a hundred years. But have you ever wondered how Viį»t Nam became a global coffee powerhouse, the role coffee played in President Hį» ChĆ Minhās rise to power, or how a small brown bean lifted thousands out
hopefully the photographs are worth.
ohhh.
*** i've been testing blends.
Verve Sermon is actually pretty good for a medium roast.
*at least for espresso. gonna try pourover tomorrow.
Oh nooo what happened??
Barely heated up
No crisp
It was meh
I need to revisit and get a whole pie
Thatās upsetting to hear. They were on point Friday
it was really good - totally worth it for $75
Yup!
when do these happen?
quarterly? or yearly.
i guess i'm asking my good friend chatgpt
All g
I made it guys. Iām in a timemore ad
You get a free grinder with it?
Ozik!
Guys I need to make LOADS more money
I want to buy Ozik
I also want to get into HiFi
But Lordy Lordy Lordy
I thought coffee and tea were expensive and extremely niche hobbies until I started to read
r/audiophile
Are you still using the 078s at home?
Coffee is one of the cheapest hobbies you can get into
The ceiling is pretty low
Even if you were to buy all commercial/shop equipment for home
Yea I am
Fitting then. š need one of those fancy new tampers and wdt sets they have coming out as payment though.
I just wanna listen to non insano mode Kanye with some nice speakers man
college drop out with a pair of speakers that have a wide soundstage and clear imaging would be sublime
Sensational honestly
Pair of good speakers mean nothing if youāre streaming spotify lol
the trick is to put like $1k into acoustic treatment, then any speakers sound good
so many audiophile-marketed products are snake oil
Roughly translates to "one who boofs" nice.
lmao I just got a DM from somebody who's never interacted w/ our shop before saying "hey, just wanted to bring to your attention that one of your baristas named xxx posted some negative stuff about Charlie Kirk"
immediately deleted and blocked him
he doesn't even follow her
what kind of a stalker is he
there's the whole cancel culture going on rn
where they just contact people's employers
for bad things (usually just charlie kirk's own words) posted
yeah
there are karens just sitting there, stalking people and calling/messaging employers
also if it's someone who's like regularly supported us
who was genuinely concerned
I would open the dialogue and really try to talk
but nah
the last DM he sent was in April 2020 (my first shop) asking if there's a discount for front line workers
LMAO
he just copy&pasted and emailed me
the same DM
told u so lmfao
also I'd give it a 50% chance he's not a front line worker or moreso not someone actually out there in the front lines
I was just talking about maybe buying one yesterday
Audio hobby is a crazy rabbit hole where a 3-4k setup and a decent amount of thought goes a long way
I don't think it's that bad
But the urge to upgrade will always be there bc the upper end is so high
I went to that lol
why is the guy following your barista on IG
thats hella weird
unless hes a regular with her?
Heās not even following her
Youāre telling me the 10 grand speaker cables donāt do anything?????
Ayo spotify is rolling out lossless rn
bUt tHe cLaRiTy
my favorite are the rocks for your speakers to sit on
actively makes things worse for $500 a pop
Also Iām trying to budget in a good turntable but brother
Shit so expensive
People put their speakers on rocks? Āæ
Iāve seen stands
I plan to get some stands for the Dali Oberon 3 I get
The solid steel stands are sick and a pyramid so better stability against my big jumpy dog
But yoooooo $800???
Expensive metal triangle
Looks classy but Iād just use washing machine pucks
tbh that would probably work a lot better
Well Iāll need stands because my room is a rectangle and I like to listen in front of the TV and perpendicular. So stands will be nice to allow me to pivot the speakers
i had some Gator stands when my monitors were free standing, they aren't the prettiest but relatively cheap and i'm pretty sure i could hit em with a tractor
i put foam isolation pads on top of the stands, then monitors, worked really well
I think cheaping out on stands is tempting however the resale value and longevity of the nice ones seem like a better move although far more expensive
Iāve never heard of gator stands
Bro these look butt ugly
hahaha yeah that is the problem with em
those are really cool
god damn
But theyāve been steady sellers since 1996. So Iām sure I can resell them for a similar msrp if I ever choose to rid myself of them
I bet Iāll keep them for as long as I have bookshelf speakers tho
But yeah. That price hurts a lot
what speakers you putting on them?
Dali Oberon 3
I found a guy in SFV selling his barely used speakers for half the price
ooo
lol stands cost more than the speakers
Super immersive and cinematic
would look really good tho
Hahahahah
Yeah I know!
One day in the future that wonāt be the case
Honestly man, the speakers are the cheapest part of the setup!
Stands: $800
Amp: $1200 (Yamaha r-n1000a but I might do the $600 wiim amp ultra)
Turntable: rega planar p3 $1100
Potential phono preamp: $200
Oh ok second to cheapest part
damn
not a bad setup for the price tho
gonna sound real good
i want to upgrade my whole listening setup so bad, but i rent right now so i can't put panels on the walls or anything
desperately want a pair of Genelecs but woudln't feel right putting them in a boomy room
plus they're butt ugly
Most panels are less than 15lbs! You can use the Velcro command strip for art
As much as I want good sound, I canāt do ugly
Interior design is more important
Iām a single man
I gotta keep in mind that a woman (or women š) will be visiting my domicile
wise
my wife puts up with all my coffee stuff, i try not to push it with the other gear lol
Thereās also companies that custom print whatever you want on the acoustic panel that way itās not just a block of black or white. I would highly recommend doing a wide horizontal painting which could span 3-4 panels then put them side by side on the wall.
It wonāt look like a painting (maybe you could add a cheap wood frame?) but it definitely wonāt look like acoustic panels
now that's a great idea
i should look into that
Iām trying to get to the point where my hobbies are additive in life and arenāt obsessive or take up too much space or time
The moment I read you can do mineral droppers for each cup of coffee was where I draw the line.
I canāt fathom tailoring each and every cup I brew
this is a good mindset
Iād rather give up the hobby completely
unfortunately, i'm in this deep LOL
for real lmao
It used to be that he did a separate roast level labeled as espresso. Surprising he would bleed that into his filter line.
Could also just be evolution of roasters. I feel like the industry is trending lighter. And thereās a small possibility yāall/we all are adapting and heās doing roughly the same thing
I want one of these š¤§
Kef also on my list
Genelec u have to get the raw metal ones and have the whole room match aesthetic or it ugly af
Can u tell her I think she pretty tell her nosy customers need to mind their own business
These look hella interesting
How do they sound thooooooo?
@cedar otter help a brother out
Slide this man her number
They only have 1 room in NY to test them zzzzzzz
I think the more realistic option is finding a nice set of vintage speakers and fixing them when it comes to cost
Although that depends on how comfortable are you with replacing capacitors
Why not?
I rent too, I'm not aware of anything preventing one from putting things on the wall
this is like 50% off right? lol.
š i should get one for the Lab vibes.
even wear a lab coat. lulz.
i actually think a lot of audiophile stuff is broscience based
i was really into headphones and ny matrix breaking redpill was trying $40 iems that decimated my entire $200-600 range collection
sold them all immediately
I think tuning has come a really long way the past few years esp for IEMs
yeah it's pretty crazy just how much similar a $20 pair of chinese iems punches against hi-fi headphones. i miss the open back soundstage but man i love my wallet that much more
I went from schiit stack + HD660s to now just using a dragonfly Cobalt + 64A Solos
im just repping my aliexpress usbc dac and some kefine kleans
I also miss the open soundstage feeling of openback but my ears would get hot and it got uncomfortable which is why I want speakers + iems now š¤”
I think iems having way less resistance make them more appealing than having DAC/amp stacks sitting around on the desk
yeah and then depending how deep you are into it, you're surrounded by people shouting opposite opinions about how dacs change sound quality
i do not miss r/headphones at all
My goal for speakers is filling a room nicely without hot spots with at least some directionality bc I don't really sit and listen. It's more like I want something playing while I'm up and doing something
If I sit and listen it's on IEMs anyways
though thats probably how people feel about coffee people
I think once u set realistic expectations for what u want out of an audio system it's not that bad
yeah speakers is def my ideal set up
But just chasing "quality" is dumb
i spent my money that i got from selling my headphones and upgraded my cars sound system
and thats my favorite way to listen now
way better investment too because i get to share it with others too
and it was a big improvement instead of meddling around figuring out what headphone you like
My bmw had really bad sibilance and I gave up on it
now I just don't really raise the volume ever
ššš. my partner's prius bass is either non-existent or plastic-rattling. no in-between
just an on/off switch
You went down to "just" a setup that is double in price?
I've been thinking of going IEMs for this reason too
like these? first google result. i got an ancient pair of etymotics er-6is that are getting a lil uncomfortable https://www.amazon.com/syeindunce-Diaphgram-Headphones-Interchangeable-3-5mm/dp/B0FH4PS9RJ?th=1
Someone tell her this man owns a P100 AND a Nautilus
I went to a more simple setup not a more cheap setup
I bet it takes up less space too
Ya no more stuff on the desk other than iems is nice
Linea mini is pretty simple. Move paddle, shot go burr.
Or maybe just this Check out this item on OfferUp. https://offerup.co/Sr3g0c4qHWb

yup, same ones
i like them a lot but theres better out there afaik. chi-fi meta moves fast
Might upgrade to a bengle bc I like simple š I rarely dialed on decent bc software flow profiling would save every shot basically
Or you can pay one of the AV repair experts in LA.
Personally I donāt want to fuck with vintage stuff
Thatās just a big problem and money sink
It's not that big a problem tbh but u def have to research before purchasing
Look for foam replacement mostly
I agree. Thatās why Iām not buying something I canāt sit down and listen to myself. Thatās how I settled on the Dalis.
When I heard that encapsulating sound stage, I knew Iād remember them until I can afford something in the $3k+ range
Plus these bad boys are $425 for what seems to be a barely used pair
So itās a steal!
I also donāt understand these frequency graphs
U can safely throw those out the window for speakers bc your room acoustics plays a larger factor unless u go all out isolating speakers and foam every wall tbh
The frequency charts are nice for EQ iems and headphones thou
Wharfedale is most likely what you want. Audio Element has all of their stuff
They base their sound on their vintage models heavily
JBL vintages are super nice
I want to listen to the L52s!
I have yet to find someone in LA that has them in a showroom
I'm honestly considering converting my home desk setup into a listening room once I move back to my house
If not I'll have a dedicated listening room but that's such a degen bachelor move
Yeah I agree completely. Things got much easier when I set out a goal on what I wanted my system to achieve in my life and the parameters. That allowed me to make decisions much more firmly and stick with them
I just now need to pull the trigger on ordering the few pieces or pick them up this week
Iām excited!
Iāll send pics when itās all together
Make it a study!
My coffee setup is workflow first so I'll never consider slow feeding
minimal puck prep
Books, music, a desk for writing, a computer
Itās a space of solace and focus
No degen shit happening!
I agree completely
Wasnāt it @compact hound who was feeding one bean every 3s on the nautilus at the last meet up
Whoever that was has some wild time management skills/problems
My man really out here selling the dream that grinders = babes
They are lol
Maybe the other Allen Tran @glossy sail
lol i did not feed a nautilus that way
i just have to feed my EG1 slow on the start or it stalls hahahhahaha
I know a person who uses the Acaia to bake bc it easy to wipe the top for cleaning
Iāve been using my lunar for baking
my cooking scale isnāt accurate enough for yeast
I use my mischief scale for sourdough. It can hold a lot of weight without overloading it.
Looks better than a normal kitchen scale and itās already out on the counter.

Sounds like these $8k+ amps donāt do anything better
Speakers actually make a difference though.
I believe turntables also can fall into that category of āactually discernibleā upgrades
dont the phono carts make a diff and everything else is less noticable
Heh, sort of over IE ramen places that sell me a bowl for $25 thatās clearly using a powder base.
Yeah practically. What matters on a turntable is a solid build so the vibrations donāt mess with the spinning piece of black plastic. The cartridge is what actually makes the sound
Iād say after $1000-1500 youāre not really getting much in terms of a turntable other than stability, aesthetics, and flexing ability.
Simply get a rega planar 3 and buy a stupid expensive cartridge. Then youāll be set for a long time unless you want a better tactile experience
Aw man why not?
I havenāt had a vinyl collection or a turntable. However they seem so romantic and a way to slow down with your music
space of storing all the vinyls
i listen to too many genres so digital is easier
Oh yeah I fear the space I will dedicate to vinyl and books
Yeah me too
So I guess Iāll be fucked with shelving space
cd smaller physical media and easier to find stuff
ill keep w digital and collect cd of albums i really like
That many vinyls would take up a lot of space
I have a couple vinyls, I'd like to actually get more but it's just expensive
Itās only cool if other people KNOW youāre collecting themā¦
100% Had a friend when I was younger with thousands of records - they were stacked everywhere and took up a huge amount of space. Basically an HP record store in his living room. Probably worth a small fortune now though
yup. i gave up on ramen basically a month after searching. having worked at a place that serves ramenāalmost all soup stock+noodles is from sysco and never made in-house
its almost always a concentrate with added ingredients. which i think is fine. but not worth $25 for something i could prepare with the little amount of effort required
maybe $15 at most. lol
the IE can only dream of LA's east asian food scene
Itās just a shame thereās always new identical subpar ramen places opening so I get my hopes up š
Also if you havenāt tried it, Menkoi Ya Ramen in Claremont is the offender in this case
You'd think after nwavguy made his blog posts and introduced the O2 amp that people would know that by now
oh yeah, been there done that. stopped going about a year ago after rule4flation hit
bowls went from $13 to $18+ and the char siu only got stingier
plus someone that me and my partner didn't like started working there. so there's that
If the soft boiled egg and chashu aren't on point then I riot
Char siu at a Japanese ramen shop?
Was that a typo
What if it's Chinese Japanese fusion
Iāll probably just stick to pho in Rancho.
At 18$ I'd just buy Char siu from a chinese grocer and put it in shin black lol
ignorance is showing. i reckoned chashu and char siu were alternative words of the same item
but yes, chashu :p
Both very delicious pork. But yeah Chinese vs Japanese
After nine and a half years of business, Mo was forced to cut K+Mās business hours from daily to Thursday through Sunday this past June. Although the move was a devastating necessity to keep business alive, Mo is truly excited for this new era that she coined āLong Weekend at K+M.ā
mon, tues usually slow.
That feels so weird to me. But I only really worked in a city pre covid. And I suppose remote work is much higher than back in the day where workers would pile into coffee shops on break or lunch etc
its def the new normal.
i enjoy the remote work.
but i guess it hurts other industries that cater to in-person work
Indeed. Also doesnāt help that inflation has made it so even the middle class donāt like to grab drinks out daily.
As a whole of course. I know thereās exceptions, obviously
why buy a drink for $5 coffee when you can just make it at home???
Doesnāt help that people donāt respect baristas as a craft in the US. Tipping on a coffee is unfathomable for some.
Dump grinds and hot water gets poured over. Coffee go mmmm
I only respect some baristas tbh
hard working/skilled ones
theres a lot of bum baristas pulling coal ass and not giving a shit about being a barista
I think for many people tips end up just being a table service restaurant thing, and when every counter service place started asking, people made one decision about that entire POS interface and just tap custom -0 or no-tip on autopilot
tip request coming before service also throws a lot of people off
Wait I donāt know what you are referring to. Can you link that? Iām interested!
Welp
Guys
Iām getting laid off
Literally days after I bought all my HiFi equipment too š«
@rough crypt you think I should hold onto the stuff and enjoy them while Iām broke and have all this free time???
Itās tempting
Imagine spending my unemployment check on records
Also also also
Z1 still hasnāt come
Unemployed and Z1-less
:ā(
crap, sorry to hear Reub
Depends on your savings and what your job market looks like. But personally I'd reduce spending to essentials
Yeah sorry to hear about that. That sucks
Donāt worry. All this is a blessing in disguise. Iāve been meaning to quit this bum ass job for a while. Iāve been slowly applying to jobs and was planning on ramping up in October to bounce in early 2026.
This email just pushes that timeline up and puts a fire under my ass
only a Z1 every few months, instead of every month
Although upsetting and apprehensive in many ways, Iām glad this is happening
Plus severance and my 200 hours of PTO is gonna be killer when it hits
Essentially guy makes anonymous blog, writes about other equipment and electrical engineering behind amps and dacs, makes his own freely licensed cost effective design where anyone can produce it to his reference spec
