Maybe try Necessity Coffee. They buy similar greens as Steady State and roasts at the same coro (San Diego Roasting Collective). They also always have 1 or 2 interesting co-ferment and have a collection of roaster bags that they do public tasting with folks, real passionate guys.

There’s some serious coffee desert pockets in SD but lots of enthusiasts so great opportunities imho - just look at the lines at Rikka Fika on any given day.

Affluent neighborhoods like La Jolla, Ocean Beach, Point Loma, Coronado don’t have decent high end coffees beyond Bird Rock Coffee roasters -- just vibey matcha and health bowl scenes.

If it was me I’d personally target something like Clairemont or neighborhoods near SDSU - cheaper commercial rents and lots of students (UCSD, USD, Point Loma, SDSU) and young professionals and families. If you can swing it, University Heights, North Park, South Park, Normal Heights, even Talmadge are interesting walkable area with high foot traffic, likely higher rents though.
