for the Zerno Z1 grinder, i was surprised to hear how the auger was replaced with a slow-auger, and:

1. it could potentially affect taste
2. not really that much slower
3. beans still get stuck in the auger (!)
4. when pouring beans in the input funnel, beans could "bridge" easily

@boreal solar , do you find that you have any of those issues with the Mazzer Philos ?

I have a Z1 and can say yes to #1-3. not sure on #4. I run CV3 and the medium auger, I have both and preferrer it to the slow.

I don’t really have issues with the philos ux wise. The workflow is the best I’ve had with a grinder. That said the prebreaker is pretty aggressive and in theory can affect the taste of the bean. I haven’t found it to be an enough of an issue with my personal palate to bother me though.

There’s a couple users here that occasionally have issues with larger chunks of beans getting stuck in the burrs when making large shifts in grind size. Doesn’t really affect the functionality but instead makes a weird noise. I’ve seen it maybe once or twice in four months of ownership.

I haven't had that specific roast from Huila, but it sounds similar to others I've tried. Those strong aromas, for whatever reason, trigger a headache for me.

I think they still ship a medium speed auger standard and the slow auger is an option. Also bridging happens mostly on larger beans when you dump a larger dose in all at once. Rarely on smaller to medium beans. Solved by pouring larger beans a little slower. Stuck beans def less often with the slow auger though still happens.

I did some side by sides and mostly noticed a difference in flow with the slow auger requiring a finer grind setting to produce the same brew time as the standard auger

I secretly like the taste of New Orleans style coffee from Blue Bottle. Though it’s not really because coffee so much as enjoying it in a milkshake kind of way.

For sure. I used to live next to the first Hayes valley BB before they blew up, the New Orleans style is always great, especially served out of a garage with multi spring levers

I made the trek to GBB when I learned that the head roaster was Marcus from Boot Camp Coffee (Willem Boot’s joint). My friends John and Lynelle (mudhouse coffee) co-own a gesha farm with Willem in Panama. I did the online roaster training course from Boot Camp and Marcus was in a lot of the videos. I thought the pour over was far better than average and the light roast spro was prepared…. Not well. This was a couple years ago and their light roast was not bana approved light for sure. More med-light

Same. Just did yesterday with my 3 yrs old for birthday too at some fancy rooftop Mediterranean spot called Calabra. Food was good, typical overpriced SM deal. It was okay in terms of kid friendliness and place was mobbed with beautiful looking influencer types. My kid had a minor meltdown but it was fine, still worth it for the food and vibe.

The Point in Manhattan is kinda cool with kids. Outdoor area to run around, sometimes kids activities. Several options for food. North Italia, True Food kitchen, couple others prob.
Not on the beach, but kid friendly.

Pancho's also fun, if you want old school 80's style throw back Mexican. It's pretty fun
