Not sure specifically for LA but many other cities I’ve lived in have co-roasting spaces. I’ve roasted in them in Portland, Oakland. Even here in San Diego (https://caroastingcollective.com/ ) have a collective that you can take a class and roast, or collectively buy greens. It’s not super uncommon. Also finding off time at indie roaster is a good route too, I’ve done toll roast for people as bargain for greens at off hours like 9pm to 12am etc

Production roasting isn’t particularly hard if you’re data savvy. It’s not quite the same as sample roast in that it’s most focused on hitting curve for QC vs optimizing for taste for each roast

If you’re into roasting, start with home roasting or sample roast so you get to dial in your preference and learn how beans react. If you want o get into mass production or start a business, then a coro is an awesome jumping point

Your insurance will cover based on the price u paid essentially bc that's the value of the house, but u could always get the house reappraised for higher value to insure more. This would also increase your property tax and insurance premium thou

Insurance has: structure(the house), other structures(shared fences w neighbors), personal property (everything inside).
Structure costs will basically never be enough to rebuild and be expected to pay out of pocket
Personal property value is based on the value of your house. The more expensive the house, the more personal property they're willing to cover. Any personal property insurance money not used can be redirected to structure, which is what everyone does for the most part

I actually got lucky that I just moved in, so my personal property value is actually super low bc I didn't have a lot of big items like furniture to eat into that cost. I mostly lost kitchen appliances and washer/dryer. So everything I owned will basically be covered

My coworker that lost her house, but on AllState is struggling w getting them to talk to her, but other than that it's been ok.
AAA For me has been good? They paid up 5k up front based on good will like the day after I filed a claim. 2 weeks later paid up 20% of my maximum personal property based on good will also. They sent an agent out last week to confirm house was totalled, and are now sending me the structure insurance

Something like 70% of the houses that survived need to get torn down and rebuilt because of smoke damage though. And if ur house still standing 100% get a lawyer bc insurance will try to not pay structure insurance 💀

It's also worth noting most people would've saved clothing, essentials, and other sentimental value things. I was at work when it happened and saved nothing 🥴. I know a guy that saved his PC and EG-1

Phase 1: government will check and make sure it's safe to actually remove
Phase 2: government will optionally remove for you. Could take over a year to remove. Other option is you pay out of pocket and hire privately and u can get it done next week 🥴

After that you will need contractors and an architect to redesign your house to be up to code bc the codes were prob updated and changed. And then government will have to approve permits and plans which could take like 2 years 💀

I bought a house new built in like July 24. So my codes are all up to date and my permits are still valid so I'm skipping that step

HOA is assisting in the rebuild and debris removal because some of my neighboring units also burned and they didn't have a buyer yet. So they're going to help us rebuild all the units at the same time

A lot of ramen is like that now. I think it’s more inflation than anything. Even a meh bowl of lunch special ramen in the IE is like $18 these days. SOCAL isn’t immune from the price changes either unfortunately.

was like $16 or so before covid. then covid they added packaging fees.

Chinese food tax is getting up there too. In my area it’s no longer about cheap take out like it was before I left the Midwest. Which is good and bad in some ways. Aside from Panda Express I can’t think of anywhere near me that offers dinner options under $20 a plate.
