If you want to try Ondo’s take on a sweet & creamy drink try the espresso con panna (secret menu) or you can get the regular Guinness butterscotch cream latte if you want the milk. The more developed Galo Morales Mejorado is putting out orange creamsicle vibes as it cools. Not as much pop in the lemon/lime at this roast level but so sweet and smooth. That was my test roast from 9/27. Yesterday’s roasts of the same bean I ran about 5 seconds faster to the same end temp and dev % to try and grab some of the citrus pop back. Not even going to taste it we’ll see what happens on the 19th 🫣

I've seen some 01 stall which is concerning, though I think that's down to burr geometry?
I also appreciate being able to use the dosing cup or portafilter without swapping anything out.
The number system is cleaner on the 01 but I'd imagine a little finicky to change the zero point.
Noise has been an issue for some, where the users added grease to the belt to resolve. Not sure if this is widespread or still an issue.
Both are large in different ways, very situational.

I'd probably pick an 01 if I was shopping for a 98mm grinder right now. The most intriguing thing to me is that you can use the purge during the continuous grind on the 01.

I'm not really that interested to upgrade though

The GS3 does flow profiling by shunting the water to the drip tray. Not a superb experience if you're not plumbed/drained in. Check sprometheus' review on it. I think this has other issues around repeatability too, not helped by how finicky the adjustment on the MP is.

Also allegedly the top panel build moisture and the slant drains that moisture to the control panel on the right. Mostly heard this from Decent, who had this experience and then decided to stick the electronics as far as possible from water/moisture, so take that with a grain of salt

I used to live in starbucks between shoots when I was building my business and out shooting from dawn through twilight every day. Such terrible coffee. But they used to have these single cup Clover machines and I went to one shop so often I got to know the manager and he would brew my own coffees for me in the Clover 😁

Clover was an interesting machine. Starbucks bought the company and killed it so all other businesses that had bought the expensive machine were screwed.
Then years later Starbucks lost interest and ditched the machine themselves

I only covered at stores that had them, but I remember it being pretty fun to use. The coffee was better than a random barista doing a hand pour but only as good as the input

Yeah "Reserve" coffee. They've changed that program through the years, now it's really only at very select stores with a heightened experience and different equipment, offerings, training

I did a barista competition at Starbucks about the time I was figuring out specialty coffee. I was disappointed to know I had to use their coffees, even the reserve stuff was difficult to pick out notes.

Just a heads up to everyone coming to the meetup tomorrow. I have RO water (usually <17ppm) on tap for anyone who wants to remineralize but if that’s not clean enough I’d recommend bringing some brew water with you. I will have some jugs of my preferred water (75GH/38KH) and can make more of that as needed from concentrate. Probably not ideal for espresso machines though (chlorides). If there is interest I can make baking soda/epsom salt concentrates for people to create their own waters just lmk!

FOR EVERYONE: Parking can be fine one minute and packed the next depending on who is arriving/leaving to exercise around the reservoir. If you get here and can’t park real close, feel free to block our driveway while unloading your gear. We parked one of our cars with some extra space next to the driveway so there should be plenty of room to do that without blocking the neighbor. Just make sure to move it once you’re finished unloading. Enter up the drive way and we will be around back.

I guess I keep my tolerance by still drinking some medium roasts

Got the tonino and measured the second lightest roast of the mejorado from 10/9 (12% moisture loss). Supposed to do it within one hour of roasting because it will darken a bit while resting but just wanted to test it out. Def lighter than i expected. The bags I handed out at the meetup were 11% moisture loss and dropped 5f cooler temp so better let them sit a month minimum before trying. Wish I could test whole bean bc guessing significant delta with a drum roaster…
