Mk 4 commdante (new)
Red Clix (new)

New Red Clix Axle is stuck on upper bearing during first install on a new commdante. The bearing spins around the axle but I cannot move the axle further to get the correct position in order to use the grinder. I also cannot remove the axle the other direction to take the beaing off the axel.

I saw a comment on Comandante’s YouTube, where comandante advised to polish the axle with steel wool and I’ve done that, but I obviously cannot polish the portion that’s stuck underneath the bearing. so I’m still not sure what to do here.

I don’t wanna go too hard and hammer everything to hell since these are precision parts but the bearing is definitely stuck. I’ve also tried putting the part in the freezer to see if that temperature change will shrink & loosen the bearing enough but that hasn’t worked yet.

What food safe lubricant should I use?
Is there a Commdante rep here?
Any advice is appreciated, thank you.

Edit. I added a picture of the axle and bearing below. The bearing spins indicated by the black curved arrow, but the bearing does not move up or down along the axle.

Not sure which way it’s supposed to go, but removing a stuck bearing generally means you have to replace it (although it’s probably fine to reuse, that is the rule), since you damage it with the force necessary

I don’t really know how the commandante fits together, is the bearing stuck on a place it shouldn’t be in?

If not, you can just stick it in and use it no?

If whatever the outer race of the bearing should slide into is hard to get into, use again the heat cold method but then on assembly. Lay grinder body on a radiator and this axle thingy in a bag in the freezer

A little oil would probably solve the issue. If you go buy something, penetrating oil would be good here. Otherwise WD40 would work too. Try not to use too much, it has an unpleasant and long lasting smell

Don’t use WD40, it’ll penetrate into the bearing and you don’t want wd40 as lubricant (it’s not, it’s a solvent)

If it only needs to go down. As long as you move it only by pushing on the inner race, it’s good and not a problem 👍

#

So you’ll need to find a tube that fits over the axle but only touches the inner race

#

Bearings are supposed to be quite snug. In most automotive applications they don’t come out without pullers, hammers etc

#

When installing you’ll have to make sure to only push on the race that is touching whatever it’s ‘snug’ on. So for around axle the inner, inside a hole, only outer

#

I use sockets, tube wrenches, normal tubes / whatever you can find

That happened to me once before several months back (not sure how as I used no excessive force putting it on). I put it back into the grinder and knocked on the end of the axel (not with a hammer…just flipped over and knocked lightly a few times against counter I think) until it popped loose. No oil that I remember. Probably wasn’t the best idea but it worked fine afterwards. Maybe email comandante if you’re worried? I’ve emailed them before and they responded within 48 hours

Messaged Comandante and they made it right. Thank you Comandante !
