Bought a used 2005 La Cimbali M21 Junior DT1. Turned it on and everything seemed to work but steam pressure would drop quickly when activating steam wand and I had a leak coming out of hot water tap and steam wand. (I’ll be getting new gaskets for that) This is my first machine and I would love to take it all apart and descale/get new parts that are needed. I live in Los Angeles and know of a few Espresso shops in the area to supply with anything I need. Any advice on restoring a used machine ? Any common parts that I should replace? Also any videos on descaling properly? Sorry for all the questions. Just don’t want to fuck up my machine 😂

It looks like nobody has responded even though this thread has been open for a while. Maybe one of our <@&1020401507121774722> could help?

Definitely replace the anti-vacuum valve and the grouphead gaskets.
The steam recovering slowly could be a super scaled up boiler, scaled up element, or thermal stall from a stuck closed anti-vacuum valve.
Feel free to pm me if you have any question about descaling or other things.
(I Repair commercial espresso machines for a living)
As for descaling, I would honestly recommend taking it entirely apart and soaking it in a citric acid solution.

Really appreciate you replying ! I’m gonna look at some part diagrams, still don’t know what an anti vacuum valve is 😅 I’ll pm you with some questions, thanks again for your help!

some cities (not all) have a good old school machine repair place. if you have one its worth befriending them XD.

Yeah thankfully I know 3 places close to me. Very lucky I live in LA. One repair store owner even said he’d be willing to show me at the warehouse but he never got back to me and I don’t want to annoy him 😬 these techs in LA stay very busy
