My friend got a new Bambino with the Baratza Encore ESP grinder and he's having issues getting pressure for a shot. Any advice, this is what he's sent me...

#

After using a distributor....

#

After tamping...

has he tried grinding coarser?

Bambino, non-plus? The baskets may all be pressurized

He's using a double shot non pressurized basket.

still needs to go coarser 😅

Choking is good because it means you can just go coarser and see what happens, a relatively simple path

Second basket here.

#

That makes me feel better, because that's what I suggested to him before I came here to double check myself.

Thanks, @merry coral @balmy rock

for reference, I usually do 1:3 in about 15 seconds or less on my bambino. using light to medium-light roasts

#

some coffees like 20-25 sec

#

(as an output, not an input)

He said he started it at 15 and has moved it up to 21.

he could also down-dose

#

actually yeah down dosing might be good anyways because look at the post-extraction puck, it's HUGE

#

could go down to 16 and still be plenty

Yeah, I found 16g to be the happy zone with the Breville 54mm platform

@jovial forge, FYI, this is the thread I made for your shot.

change one variable at a time if you have the coffee to spare

I only change 1 thing for each step

#

That way I know what happened.

Good point. I have the coffee to spare right now but might not after tomorrow. I have a feeling I’ll be very productive tomorrow as I’ll be wired from all the espresso I’ll be drinking.
