I have maxed out an Obelisk map with +2 Orbs of Obelisk Waves and +20 Orbs of Obelisk Spawns. This is a serious net negative and I've only received 4 chests after dying a total of 0 (ZERO) times. Harvests seem to close after a bunch of seconds (approx 40 - 50) as well and seem to have reduced difficulty/drops, as I am not getting much rewards from enemy drops, specifically harvest related drops.

apparently obelisks have a chance to yield a chest per kill

how hard it is to get 10 chests is a diff question though
It was esy i did one wih maced out orbs and stuff on it and got every time max chests
yeah, maxed out orbs gave you all chests or close.
Obelisks still need to be changed, the player shouldnt have to start crafting the obelisk map mid map before entering
You are in the map, obelisk is the content and it drops an obelisk map for you to do right

exit the map apply the orbs and go back
at that point its not even worth doing the content
its just a nuisance is my point

use the obelisk thing on your base
instead of going to the map and finding it there
They dont accept these maps
it tells me
Also i dont think u get the map relic bonuses if you use their specialized map altar thing

Here is how obelisks work:
- You get 1% to spawn a next chance for each killed mob
- Then this chance is multiplied by
a) 0.1% per obelisk tier
b) 0.2% per obelisk affix
c) spawnrate / 100
Your #1 was 20 mobs with ((50% spawn chance * 200 spawnrate / 100)=100%) spawnchance * 5 waves = 100 mobs * 1% per mob = 100%
So in total you #2 was 1 * (1 + 0.1*10 tiers) * (1 + 0.2 * 5 affixes?) * (1 + 200 spawnrate/100) = 12%
So your total is 100*12 = 1200% = 12 chests = 10 chests maximum by config

is 1% the chance cte2 uses

According to the world\serverconfig\ancient_obelisks-server.toml
Oh, wait, I guess his obelisk map was tier 1, not 10, that mean #2 is 6%
That leads to 6*100=600%=6chests
If he also had 3 affixes instead of 5 that means 1 * 1 * 1.6 * 2 = 3.2%
That leads to 3.2*100=320%=3 chests + 20% for 4th chest
So you were even lucky you got 4@ocean linden 
i do all maps at tier 10
and 5 waves
if there's an obelisk inside a map that has prophecy content™, I will also max out the enemy spawns with 20 of those things
So how much chests do you usually have?
I mean, math seems right here
sometimes it's even 2 or 1
