My workout beasts, I need assistance. I need tips to get healthy and lose weight but it’s very difficult for me to make progress, part of it due to the medications I take, and I tend to live a rather sedentary lifestyle because a lot of the time I end up having to sit down a lot to do homework or study. What do I do?
Small changes, unless if you're the type of person who does better with making yourself go all out! Start by going on longer walks, and build up to jogging/running if that's your thing, or look at at home workouts online or on youtube! I personally don't want to go to the gym for my own anxiety reasons, and at home workouts have really helped me build muscle and lose weight to reach where I wanted to be. I hope this is helpful! Also getting weights or at home supplies can also be a motivator. Since they're there, you'll want to use them
Start by timing how long you workout maybe until you figure out specific ones you'd like to do. For example take 20 mins or 30 mins dedicated to some kind of exercise or a walk

yeah coffee doesnt really have calories. i find that no-sugar, coffees, or caffeineated drinks (like monster, or other 0sugar energy drinks) r ok. if u still wanna switch out for milk theres almond milk w 40 calories/cup but honestly its just preferrance!!

monster does not come w/o it's issues tho obviously.... too much can rlly fuck up ur liver. the punch monsters absolutely destroy my stomach. it hurts in an awful buzzy way
set attainable and realistic goals for yourself and incrementally increase them as you go
good first step would be setting a minimum # of steps per day and then making sure you hit that before you chill

find a route with x miles and go out, run at a slow pace as long as you can then walk until your breathing and heart rate calm down then start running again
do this with any consistency and regularity and youll be able to run longer and longer

the fear mongering aspect of reporting the possibly non-causal correlation between artificial sweeteners and early death isnt great, but I can kinda get it
the lack of nutritional energy in the product seems pretty persuasive to me

what i see on the packaging mostly touts that its zero calorie, which is true

the thought process is a little less direct I think, it's marketing as a healthier option, or zero calorie, which people automatically associate with weight loss if they substitute a sugary thing for that
i dont think that is unsound logic, of course that decision doesnt exist in a vacuum
but if it did - it would result in some weight loss in every case
weight loss for most people is really not as simple as calorie in < calorie out
artificial sweeteners might trigger metabolic effects that cause the body to change its insulin levels that affects how it processes calories in other areas, or more likely have a psychological effect of "oh I only had diet soda all week so I can splurge on dessert or whatever this weekend" that completely offsets that
on a literal level that is as simple as it is outside of specific and uncommon endocrine disorders
in practicality, of course not
the first part is undetermined still but because the evidence is uncertain either way, making a recommendation to avoid artificial sweeteners for the purpose of weight loss makes sense I think
also like, this is mostly guidelines for governments to make recommendations

i do think it makes sense but there is a big issue of organizations like this publishing results of a study or making very serious sounding guidance without a perfectly solid scientific backing

I've been trying to take Mondays off and it's worked out I think

I recommend 2 rest days!! I know breaks are scary but that's when your body recovers the most!!
Should I do two days in a row or spread out? On some days I only do like half my workout which I consider a break somewhat

Ive been fluctuating between periods of daily intense workouts and then weeks where Im feeling burnt out and idk how to remedy it, because if i have more breaks it makes me unmotivated or get off schedule
disruptions in my routine mess me up and idk how to make it more flexible than I already have
Slow down and do less at the desired frequency
Better to start small and be consistent than overdo it and fall off
ty for all of your advice it means a lot to me! Im passionate about exercise and have never truly had structure when I've done it before recently, so adhering to it or not has been tricky
I'll try to find a balance, maybe I'll lessen the amount of a given type of area I do in a day
I'm happy you find my perspective helpful 🙂 these things are often easier said than done, there is a tendency (at least for me) to bite off more than i can chew. Some amount of injuries later and I've gotten a bit better about it.
There is a concept called volume of exercise and by doing stuff at a lower intensity but greater frequency you can actually exceed the total amount of exercise someone who 'goes harder' than you outputs
E.g. walking five miles a day seven days a week vs running five miles three days a week
Not to say a higher volume is always better but that there can be advantages
I've definitely made past injuries flare up from going too hard at once to try and outdo myself
and I find I feel better when I do less but more frequently! both in terms of not hurting myself but also I feel I make most athletic progress that way
I just have to be careful with not being too repetitive in risk of boredom
or hurting myself by accident through overuse

Y’all I’m so tired. After today’s orientation my stupid phone stopped working so I got extremely lost. I had to wait for it to cool down and start working again, wasn’t until about over an hour that I got back.

yeah!! I think the extra resistance weights offer is probably going to help the most
Any exercise is good for the muscle groups involved but generally heavier cardio stuff tends to burn lots of calories so you see less muscle hypertrophy
Not to say muscles can't or won't get bigger but the general body shape of cyclists and runners is far from bulky
Swimming is good for building muscle I think, at least from what I noticed when I did swimming in school

OH OKE so so so always stretch before you start lifting weights it helps with body soreness, also do light weights in the first week so your body can get used to lifting motions, it's about the movement and position NOT the weight. This is more of a preference but do cardio BEFORE you workout. It raises your heart rate and keeps it there while you workout basically getting u pumped for workouts
Also watch this guy NoelDeyzel he's amazing for starters and tbh even after like 2 years in the gym i still learn things from him lol

me when my workout has been thrown off
Last week I took 2 days off instead of 1 which is fine but it throws off my entire schedule bc I set certain days for certain muscle groups
I tried to get back on my workout routine after my vacation.
I ended up falling asleep on the first day.

how to i keep all my joints from just falling apart at age 30 bro i spent 2 nd a half years in varsity distance running without taking stretching/ recovery seriously and im finally trying to stretch more and go easier on recovery runs but i feel like its too late 🤡

in your fitness journey its important that you set an attainable routine that allows time for recuperation
its hard to know how much is too much, or too little - suffice to say when your starting out you will want somewhat more frequent recovery days
my suggestion is set X days a week leaving some gaps and commit to that amount - consistency is more important than anything

Ugh my feet and joints in general have been hurting and i feel like they’ve been like that ever since I recovered from covid
Mom tried to say that the pain is because of my weight but somehow that doesn’t seem right at all
Would walk/run more but doggo didn’t want to go any further. It’s still something at least
Covid has worsened joint pain for a lot of people and even given them chronic pain
I'm one of those people. Mine got way worse after I had covid in early 2020
Weight and joint pain isn't really a correlation, people just like to say it to body shame

mom’s a bit weird about my weight
she says that she’s only concerned because I don’t seem happy with myself but I think she does view my weight with a degree of criticism
she tried to say that my aches and pains are because of my weight, and if she notices that I ate a bit more than I should she kind of chides me about it

Only difference is my forearms are weaker and I've lost my grip (and callouses) and overall just very shakey / I've lost my endurance

did 40 minutes of leg exersises and tried doing hyp thrust today. Definitley most difficult exersise i have done yet but it was really cool to be able to accomplish something like that (had two 25 on there) and really hoping this makes me gain weight. been eating big n working strong

but, being consistent regardless is the key
well, im doing it just to generally stay healthy
but I’ve heard you shouldn’t do it every single day
better to start reasonable and then adjust later on

Hugo gave me some tips, he said that i need to always be increasing distance or speed
which i guess over time i naturally will get faster
yeah, you also make biggest improvements at the beginning - gets more incremental later
but like you do it for a month youll just be faster at the end than when u started for sure

i was the tallest in my year for a bit in secondary school
and on sports day the teachers desperately wanted me to do the long distance running because of my height
they were also all desperate to have me on the netball team lol
my understanding is taller people have longer stride and so can cover distances more quickly and this is borne out by the fastest runners who tend to be very tall
and your super marathoners are usually not as tall

tall ppl dont dissipate heat as well as shorter people

cus i know that can be quite strenuous on the heart
