everybody talks about IF Goku could beat Superman but nobody seems very concerned with WHY they would

neither of them would want to, I think. Goku would wanna spar but Superman would probably quit if he even hurt him

it also makes a lot of assumptions based on what the victory conditions are

we are baying for blood so loud that nobody could hear anybody ask "but why?" because the answer can not be more complicated than "dyood because it would be epic"

Well yes is a rather barbarian dispute, but I got some counter arguments

1st: saitama is a joke character, is like going to mugen with a balanced char and put it in a fight versus golden Ronald macdonald
2nd: a possible justifications for a fight can be related to multiverses, like a forced tournament where if the hero from there doesn't fight their entire universe is consumed, or superman wants to beat up goku bc he is going to destroy many universes in the dc time lines
3rd: winning condition is the permadeath of the rival
4th:yes it would be epic

Saitama is a joke but he's not a subversion of shonen tropes, he's just an acceleration of them

Superman doesn't really have "power levels"? or anything as quantifiable as Goku's ruleset

Superman's been written by lots of people

Goku was made by one guy under constraints

generally the rule of thumb for Superman is "he is the strongest" until somebody (usually a villain) who is stronger shows up

people will compile all the examples of Superman "fighting without restraint" or whatever but it's not

I feel like a big point of the story of DBZ is "power levels don't matter" and people have been fixating on how "powerful" Goku is

Well yes, for example where I live there is this joke of "pero puede vencer a goku?"(translated to "it can beat goku?") Is stablish that goku under its more basic premise can overcome powerful rivals by using things like convenient resurrecting tools, ships with high gravity training or whatever the writers can come with.
Superman for the other hand is writed and portrayed in a different way, instead of saying "fucking lex luthor I am coming back you sick bald bastart * starts training *" superman uses his wits and set of skills for beating any difficult encounter he had. Sometimes superman is not a power fantasy but a story about characters.
Proposing a fight between these two is just food for thought
