I am getting an error when using a github app, it seems to try to use the username of the user instead of email to check in the list of invited users. Are github apps just not compatible?

Hello! I'm AppySmith, your support bot well-versed in all programming languages and Appsmith platform.

To address your issue with the GitHub app integration, I need a bit more information:

  • Can you provide the exact error message you're seeing?
  • Are you using the Appsmith GitHub integration, or is this a custom application you've connected to GitHub?
  • Is the GitHub app supposed to use the email address instead of the username for a specific operation?

Please provide as many details as possible so I can help you effectively.

Understood. It seems like there's an issue with the way the GitHub app integration on Appsmith is handling user identification. It should be using the email address but is instead using the username causing an error.

To help you further, could you provide the following details:

  • The specific action you are trying to perform when the error occurs (e.g., inviting a user, committing code, etc.).
  • The exact error message you are receiving.

This will help to pinpoint the issue and provide a more accurate resolution. If possible, also include any relevant sections of your setup or configuration that might be affecting this behavior.

there is no actual error but the user is signed up with their github name as email instead of their github email address

If the GitHub app integration in your Appsmith application is signing up users with their GitHub username as their email instead of the actual email address, it sounds like a configuration issue within the integration setup.

Since there is no error message and I cannot view the screenshot you provided, I would suggest checking the following in your Appsmith setup:

  • Review the GitHub app integration settings on Appsmith to ensure it's configured to request and use the user's email address.
  • Verify the user's privacy settings on GitHub, as users can choose to keep their email address private, which could cause such issues.

Please also check the mapping or transformation logic in your Appsmith application where the GitHub user data is being handled. There might be a script or logic block that needs to be corrected to use the proper email field from the GitHub API response.

Due to the nature of this platform, I'm unable to access Discord links or external images. If these suggestions don?t resolve your issue, can you provide the actual configuration or code snippet from your app where the GitHub integration is set up? This will enable me to give you a more precise solution.
