Hi all, I'm really enjoying the Files app as a file browser. I do however wonder if it's possible to use Files as well in the file explorer popups that occur when for example selecting a attachement from a browser or saving a file with 'save as..' in any software.

I actually have some issues with the original file explorer from Windows here, it always freezes when it pops-up, so really hope I can use Files for these occasions. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the positive feedback!
We have a way to set Files as default browser; you can enable it from Settings > Advanced > Set Files as default file manager.
In addition to that, we have a way to override open/save dialogs but they aren't not publicly provided because they're still unstable and not usable for now.
That's said you still can try it out if you build the source code from GitHub, where we host the source code and track issues.

Not currently as there is no official way to do this in Windows. That said, as @viral edge mentioned, we have some test code that we've been exploring, but it's far from useable at this point.

Hi both aah thanks for the reply and explanation! Too bad it's not officially possible from Windows side of things but thanks for pointing out the source code. Might try that in the future.

I am also looking for this solution, not having files control all processes is frustrating

This post was quite some time ago, any update on the progress?

Nothing has changed with the save/open dialogs. Files settings > Advanced > Set as default option still works
