#Opening folders on desktop still opens Explorer.exe

Title says it all. I tried an old registry hack that got right clicking and pressing "open" launching files, but directly double-clicking folders still invokes explorer. I've enabled the "set Files as default explorer" option.

I haven't been able to repro this myself, but it does seem to be one of the side affects. I'm not sure why it's only on some devices.

I'm on a heavily modified version of Windows 10 22H2

#

By "heavily modified" I mean I've used WinAero Tweaker and WinUtil to do stuff like disable telemetry and nuke Microsoft Edge

#

Could either of those be causing conflicts?

I don't think so, but it's a possibility.

I also use ExplorerPatcher to tweak the taskbar

#

Could that be causing problems?

It might be

What exact registry modifications does Files do? I could try doing them manually

Does Files open if you open Windows File Explorer itself

Yes

#

Win + E, calling explorer.exe, those all invoke Files

Then the setting applied.

It's just double-clicking folders on the desktop that's broken

Have you tried undoing ExplorerPatcher changes and seeing if it still open explorer on the desktop

I don't really want to go through the hassle of uninstalling it, finding out it didn't solve my problem, reinstalling it, and resetting all my tweaks, but I could try

#

The only EP tweaks I use are graphical. It hides the search bar and Cortana, and replaces the Windows icon

It probably a change with Windows or something you applied. either way Files can't currently change all programs as Files uses a workaround to get it to work.

That's annoying. I know you guys can't do anything about it, but it's still annoying
