MacBook Air storage - SSD

Hello,

I’m interested in purchasing a MacBook Air M4 with 16GB of RAM. However, the 512GB model is significantly more expensive than the 256GB model, costing approximately $200 more.

As a Discord bots developer, I understand that all my applications will be around 30GB. My projects and Docker containers are relatively lightweight. I might even try playing some video games in the future.

I’m wondering if I can buy the 256GB model and if I need to add a fast SSD storage. Could I install my applications on the SSD and would they function as well as they do on the MacBook’s internal storage? Have you ever tried this before?

Yeah, you could, but as someone who has a 256GB model and is on the brink of needing to do that, just get the 512 and move along

It’s up to you if you want to deal with the headache of installing apps on an external SSD, but hell if I am next time I upgrade
