So... This happened to me earlier while using iOS 18.I hard restarted my phone and it fixed it... but, is there any reason why my phone (18.7 did this too) would do it again. Its still running 18.This is more a curiosity thing than anything else, I just didn't want to bog down the usual channels with this kind of question, and since it seems like its something that hapens randomly, I'mwondering if anyone else has/knows about why this might happen, especially at$ecmingly random times after updating. We're not talking normal warmth we're talking warm enough the phone won't charge past 80% while plugd in.Normally unplugging thephone hels it cool down, but this morning, it is draining rapidly. It is cooler, but not fully cooled down.
#Strange iPhone heating

could be that you recently installed software usually device overheats afterwards for a slight bit or it could be your cable not managing power properly that's why its better to use mfi certified apple cables as they limit the wattage being delivered to the phone to prevent your device from overheating
third party cables usually do a full send despite the device's temperature while apple checks all that
18.7 is stable enough but usually after an update occurs device overheats or it could be ur usage pattern also
what's the device model you're on?
This is an iPhone 16 Pro. I use a certified cabel(brookstone), and I have not recently installed any software.
The device is warm as a tfore this out, and is unplugged. It has been several weeks since updating.
what kind of case do u have
and whats ur primary usage on ur phone
ive heard alot of overheating issues with 16 pro
pro models just don't manage heat really well coming from a ( 14 pro) myself my device would always overheat
I use it for music listening most of the time, and listening to things on youtube (I have the brightness down because I just listen), I have a slim l"e ottorbox case on (not the big thick kind).
i'm not too sure to my knowledge every version for 18 after 18.5 is stable n my device i haven't experienced any overheating like youre mentioning
the reason why i'm asking for your case, is because i experienced overheating before because i had a black case which caused the phone to overheat alot when i had my 14 pro series
just from the sun alone
could be just in relation to some of the software you have installed that could potentionally be running in the background because you said you restarted which should've suspended all apps running
possibly something running in the background or you're in a hot enough envrioment that your phone overheats simply from your case trapping heat which could be the issue also
you can experiment with your phone and see whether the overheat continues without your case on
and then try to disable most of the apps you're using in background-app-refresh and see whether that resolves it
I will restart laterx'l be fixed for like severamonths and then come back, so its clearly something on y∂evice I don't run a lot of heavy apps or background processes that to my knowledge have caanded this in the past.
probably not but regardless it's still fetching you mentioned music, and youtube which could be feteching content in background while the app is not active
just take a look at fortnite, in order to perform downloads in background (updater) you have to enable background-app-refresh, so apps like that can fetch alot of data
which can slow down your phone
probably a cache build-up then as u mentioned
if ur saying restarting resolves ur problem for many months and u come back then it's just a buildup of ur device cache
Oh, I belichre you.
Byoutube is running in Safari, and I have spotify free so it realy shouldn't be fetching too many large things at once.
its better to perform regular restarts once in a while
I definitely don’t do that.
yeah i mean i only do that once my phone freezes or i notice a glitch and that resolves all my problems fairly quickly
i don't think most people know that phone has a buildup of cache / ram and the way of clearing that is by restarting
could be why your phone is overheating
Must be. But the buiq up doesn't usually get this bad. So I theorize there's a specific process eventually triggering it after a long time. And updating restarts the phone, sI almost feel zif something particular to you setup in th¢ase is¢ausing it.
