#Trouble installing MAC OS X Lion on older macbook

I recently picked up a old 2006 MacBook A1181 with its only hardware issue being a missing hard drive, so after installing a hard drive I took out of a dead ps3, I tried getting installing mac os lion off of a usb with a installer. except when i load up the usb, it sits the apple symbol a while with a loading bar, before the logo changes to a "prohibited" (🚫) symbol and it hangs there until i shut it down. is this an issue with the installer or is it an issue of needing to format the hard drive in some special way before using? If i remove the usb stick it shows the icon i have attached.

Did you try internet recovery or does it not support it

I don’t think those MacBooks support usb booting

i did check if it could and online was saying it could usb boot, and it does show up in the boot menu when i hold command

I don’t think windows supports Mac’s file system so it can’t read data

If you have a friend that has a Mac I stills upports making lion usbs I’m pretty sure

You might be able to find lion USB’s on eBay because the App Store wasn’t available on leopard

did not extract the pkg file and just used the download as the thing to install to the usb

god damnit extracting takes like another 20 minutes 😭
