If you need more details, just let me know
Also, Yes, they all have camera and microphone access.

Specs:

iPhone 16 Pro
iOS 18.5 (but I’ve had this issue since at least 18.3).
260GB free memory / 512GB
I have iCloud backup and sync enable, currently 1.3TB in iCloud backed up.

Default camera values:

Video: 4K 60 fps,
High efficiency storage mode
24MP
ProRaw default = ProRaw max
ProRes encoding = HDR

Issue:

Whenever my iPhone is in a “nah I ain’t going to open your camera”-state, the camera full out refuses to open when I use ProCam, Payconiq (banking app with Qr-codes), Lightroom’s camera, Scaniverse (for creating 3D models using LiDAR), and probably some other apps that I have not yet explicitly tested.

However it will happily open the camera in the camera app, Snapchat (although this has a 1-2 second delay in it every time I go to the camera screen) or copilot.

Now if this was all the time, I would assume the apps are just not up to date or something. However, as soon as I reboot my device, the camera is no longer broken in those apps and it works fine, until a couple of hours later when they stop working and brake again. Then I restart my device and all is well again.

I think the cause of the apps not working is because they don’t wait for a camera response and just assume they get it immediately

Maybe useful info:

My iPhone has a lot of analytics data, in which there are many “diskwrite” exceptions.

steps I have already taken:

this will be put in the comment section because my post is too long

Question:

Does anyone know what could be the cause of this, and maybe some tips on what to do to fix it?

Steps I took:

  • I checked if the apps had camera access,
  • I checked if they have microphone access
  • Toggled camera access off for everything and then back on again.
  • I tried opening the recovery mode/debugging mode, but the camera works after rebooting.
  • I tried to use the lidar sensor (this works)
  • I reset my camera settings
  • I played around with different values on the camera settings

Nothing worked long term. The only short term fix is rebooting my phone, so could the problem be inside the cache? But why would the problem be inside the cache and not mess up all my apps.
