How should I fix this storage? I mean my phone used to mostly be taken up by photos and videos but now I am just stuck with paying for Icloud (cant get off phone, but thats another issue there's like 119k photo video), anyways. I have no saved maps or anything like that and I can't delete anything off of it when I redownload it (no options or anything like that) a few weeks ago it was at 20 GB and randomly jumped. I don't want to backup because I have Musi, and not sure how it will work with images on phone (images and videos that cant be saved or downloaded with the error symbol)
#Apple Maps Storage Issue

This could be due to the app cache or if you have a large offline map. To check if you have an offline map, you can go to maps > your profile picture > offline maps. If that doesnt work, you can delete and redownload the app to get rid of cache, which might be taking up significant amounts of storage like you showed.
Most likely it’s Offline Maps
This is mine and I use it quite often.
main issue is that it doubled while i didn’t have it downloaded and I have none I checked so I don’t see how or where this 40 gigs is coming from
Delete the app fully then
I fully deleted it lol 😭
Did it work?
No I have had it fully deleted unless pre installed apple apps arent able to be fully deleted?
it says reinstall here it would be different if it just offloaded right?
First thing to do is restart your device
Then download Apple Maps again and do this: Edit or delete your downloaded maps - Apple Support
How much iCloud storage do you have?
Offloading and deleting is different
It doesn't even show up if it's deleted lol
The only reason it's showing in Settings is because it's archived
Offloaded apps are apps that iOS removes from your device to free up space without deleting the app’s data (user data). The app icon stays on your home screen with a small cloud icon, and if you tap it, iOS will redownload the app (if still available in the App Store) and merge it again with your user data.
However, this only makes sense if the app size is larger than the user data that this app has created. In your case, you have downloaded a 40 GB offline map and this counts as user data. To delete the user data (in your case the offline-map), you need to download the app again and either delete it directly or follow the support article I sent earlier.
Reinstall then Delete, that clears data
sorry for not being active in this thread, I have been on vacation and not been able to do anything with this issue. Just to clear some things up

To preface I used apple maps, but never even used the offline maps feature, and after a bit, it just went up like 5x in size after a period of me not using it. (I have another issue with Icloud and apple photos) on this iphone 14, another thing is (due to storage, I am still on ios 17 and have not updated.) anyways from that point I fully deleted it (the reason I talked about offloading etc was because I wasn’t sure how apple does things with its system apps but it worked as shown in the photo. Anyways after that I checked again only to see that it quadrupled to 20 gb, I had no way to interact with it without redownloading, so i eventually did after not finding any help in forums, and when i did this i made sure to check all the app settings and basically turned everything off, it even said i had no downloaded maps (definitely not any that were 40 gbs) and so I deleted it again and it once again grew in size. Anyways I decided to not do anything with it from that point.
I see the cloud symbol but it doesn’t look like any other app i have offloaded before and I only see it in my storage presumably because it IS taking up space but when I download the app to delete whatever it is, it once again changes in size so I am just generally confused i’m clicking delete every time which is why I don’t know how apple is reacting to deleting system apps is it just forcing an offload? I am just very confused because I have never used the offline maps feature and have disabled these things. I can do a quick screen recording to show what happens if I am able to i will try
here is a video of what is happening, also when i delete it, it says it may store documents and data still using icloud but my icloud drive has no such thing only my phone when i go onto its storage. its almost like this is just unconnected from the app entirely this is so annoying assuming its a bug
I had an issue like that too
What fixed it was me backing up to iTunes and factory resetting
Then restoring
And it gets rid of all that
You have to keep maps deleted though
Also had a problem like that with photos
Most of these excessive data is fixed by either yeeting the app and redownloading it, or backing up the device and restoring the phone, the excess data will be gone
Back up and restore is the only way to go
^
Alright will try when I can
