The AirPods ready to connect message keeps popping up in the top right corner. Is there anyway to turn it off?

You can turn it off, to do so, open Settings, then go under "Remotes and Devices". Once in there, click on BlueTooth. Then click on the "Suggest Nearby AirPods" to off. That should fix it.
